100 WFC: Flat out for a flathead

100 word fiction contest continues…. #100WFC Flat out for a flathead by Rhys Driving by an open garage on my way to the next job. Spotted what appeared to be an old flatty HD. I stopped and approached the person and asked if the bike was for sale. Yes it was. He quoted a price which was workable but being day before payday I didn’t have any cash in my pocket. I told him I’d be right back as I had the cash at home. Raced home grabbed the stash and made my way back. As I pulled up I saw the bike being loaded into a van. Dollar short and a minute late. * * * * * * * * Yup, its a weekly contest open to all. Just sign up for the free weekly newsletter by clicking here. Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials 2023 CANCELLED

Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials 2023, FIM Land Speed World Records and AMA Land Speed Grand Championship is Cancelled. Our assessment team has reviewed current Bonneville Salt Flat conditions since remnants of Hurricane Hilary and related storm systems delivered significant rain on the Bonneville Salt Flats during the past 24 hours. Although there is wind, it is not drying the area and is instead pushing the water around, making multiple small moving lakes to contend with. The mobile lakes are now making “high ground” a moving target to support track preparation, necessary repairs, and safe operations for all of our racers in time for the event to proceed. Delvene Reber, Event Director/Owner “We put it all on the line every year and after the 2022 cancellation we were looking forward to an exceptional race surface and return of our amazing participants to twist the throttle and add their name to the record books. It is surprising and heart wrenching to be cancelling due to the impacts from Hurricane Hilary. We know that everyone wants an exceptional experience and we are looking forward to next year when we will bring world class FIM and AMA motorcycle land speed racing back to the Bonneville Salt Flats” Current Conditions? For many of you, the University of Utah webcam provides a great keyhole view to the salt from a few miles away from our typical track locations. Like you, we look at the camera and hope it’s indicating positive conditions across all of the Bonneville Salt Flats. As of Saturday August 19, coordinating with our partners in other organizations on the salt, we had identified several options for a great track, pits, and access roads with continued drying enabling workable salt. However, as of August 21st the remnants of Hurricane Hilary contributed to a series

(May 14, 2023) – At just over 4000 ft. above sea level and backdropped by snow-capped mountains and aspen trees, Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah hosted the final round of the Monster Energy® Supercross Championship. In the 450SX Class, Monster Energy® Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo rivaled for podium contention throughout the race before securing a fourth-place finish. In the 250SX Class, Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Jo Shimoda earned an impressive fourth-place result while his teammates Carson Mumford and Chris Blose followed in 10th and 12th, respectively. Monster Energy® Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo arrived at the Monster Energy® Supercross Finale with podium momentum at his back. The No.9 KX™450SR rider matched the impressive pace he has displayed in recent weeks as he attacked the track from the time his tires touched the dirt. Through the opening sessions, Cianciarulo quickly found his rhythm and asserted himself near the top of the leaderboard. While challenging for the top spots in qualification and adjusting to the hard-packed soil conditions, Cianciarulo made minimal alterations to his bike setup and kept his focus on logging consistent laps. When the 450SX Class qualifying sessions ended, Cianciarulo had recorded the fifth-fastest lap of the morning (47.805). Prior to the start of 450SX Heat 2, a cluster of looming dark clouds turned into outright rain showers quickly producing a slippery racing surface. When the gate dropped, Cianciarulo rocketed toward the first turn before braking early and diving to the inside of his competition. The savvy move positioned Cianciarulo in second place on the opening lap, though he quickly found himself battling for the position. After briefly withstanding pressure from the championship points leader, Cianciarulo slipped back to third on

(March 5, 2023) – The iconic Daytona International Speedway played host to the world’s premier supercross racers for Round 8 of the Monster Energy® AMA Supercross Championship where Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Jason Anderson secured his third consecutive top-five finish. In the 250SX Class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Chris Blose displayed an impressive come-from-behind performance to secure a season-best seventh place. When qualifying sessions began, a motivated Anderson was one of the first riders to hit the Daytona race course. The No.21 KX™450SR rider showed impressive pace while focusing his time on track to explore various lines and generate a sense of how track conditions will deteriorate throughout the day. In the final session, Anderson applied the knowledge gained from earlier in the day to secure the third fastest lap time (1:12.889) in 450SX qualifying. In 450SX Heat 2, Anderson launched out the gate running in fifth and masterfully moved up to fourth through the first rhythm section. The New Mexico-born rider continued to race forward after taking control of fourth and within two laps was challenging at the front of the field. Anderson then displayed the superior cornering ability of his KX450SR by skillfully executing an inside line pass in Turn 1 to advance into third. The No.21 rode consistent laps until a last-lap pass moved him back to fourth. Despite his best efforts to regain the position, Anderson crossed the line fourth. As light showers began to fall at the start of the 450SX Main Event, Anderson emerged from the first turn in seventh before quickly advancing to fifth as he reached the infamous Daytona sand. Once in fifth position, Anderson settled into

Supercross vs Motocross: The Difference

The world of dirt bike riding is full of thrills and adventures. This thrill and excitement are often shared among dirt bike enthusiasts through various tournaments and events. Supercross and Motocross are two such events that keep dirt bike fans on the edge of their seat. The fans of this adventure sport are very passionate about each of them. But are they both similar or two completely different race events? Let’s find out! Supercross The simplest definition of supercross is a race involving dirt bikes that takes place in a stadium on tracks with different obstacles. A rider needs to navigate through the tracks with much smoothness and speed. The fastest one wins the race, leaving others behind on the track. Motocross Motocross shares a lot of similarities with supercross, with some differences. It takes place in natural or simulated terrain. Due to its outdoorsy nature, the tracks are very different. They are much longer and wider. The ramps are higher with farther jumps. Also, the winner requires different strategies, requiring more physical endurance to succeed. To be safe, men and womens motocross gear are crucial elements that should be taken into consideration. The first motocross was held in 1901 in London, UK. Since then, it has found its way to Australia and has become a popular sport here. It is commonly referred to as MX. The Difference Between Motocross & Supercross MX and SX can be differentiated in many different aspects. From the venue to how a winner is chosen, both have their rules, factors, and elements. Here is the complete difference between motocross and supercross. Venue The venue of both motocross and supercross is one of the key differences between them. Warm Weather Cancels Snow Outlaws Round 2

Snow Outlaws snowmobile drag racing series — race cancellation announcement CANCELLED event: STM Powersports Snow Outlaws The Pioneer / Long Lake Shootout originally scheduled: February 17-18, 2023 where: N1690 County Highway M, Sarona, Wisconsin, USA It seems that the phrase “hottest show” in snowmobile drag racing is being taken too literally. Following “hot” on the heals of a brutally cold Friday night session on Rice Lake, an unseasonably warm Wisconsin has forced the STM Powersports Snow Outlaws series to cancel their second round of 2023. Originally scheduled for February 17-18 on Sarona’s Long Lake, bad ice there had Snow Outlaws planning a return engagement at Rice Lake. But even that is off the table as warm, sunny days are thinning Rice Lake’s ice and producing no new snow. So the world’s quickest nitro, alcohol, supercharged and turbocharged sleds and the teams that race them will have to wait until March 3-4 and the Weenie Roast World Finals at Lakewoods Resort in Cable, Wisconsin. Pro Outlaw, Pro Xtreme 55, and Pro Mods will all converge for the legendary Weenie Roast festival for high speed thrills and late night swills. Team owners and riders such as Chris Connelly, Jeff Ratzlaff, Mike Allen, Dominick Ernst, Brian and Corey Sullivan, Alec Gibas, Lance Flathers, Ethan Erhardt, Jeremey Hannen, Kyle Shilts, Samson Exhaust’s Mike Baverstock, Matt Musselman, Samantha Martin, Tom Brennan, Ryan Rowe, Andy Gosch, Casey Down, Anthony Tondryk, Blake Saltzman, Tyler Stelton and more will race the Lakewoods 500 foot track. Chad and Jenny Nyhus regret that even the Snow Outlaws track-building magicians can’t conjure up a race track without snow and ice, but look forward to welcoming their drag racing family back to action at the Weenie Roast in March. * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Dakar Rally 2023 Results

by Vaibhav Kashyap from https://bikeindia.in and Report from Kurt Morris Kevin Benavides won the final stage 14 of the 2023 Dakar Rally to top the overall bike title results by 43 seconds over Toby Price. The 2023 Dakar Rally’s final stage 14 was won by Kevin Benavides, who outpaced Toby Price by 43 seconds to win the overall bike title. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider won the final two stages on his 450 Rally Factory to move up from third to first and win his second Dakar Rally championship. The Argentine, placed second in the first stage, dropped to fourth overall in stage two but managed to maintain his podium position during the following 12 stages with impressive consistency. On a Honda, Benavides finished the 136-kilometre-long special ahead of Price in second place by 55 seconds. Benavides had also won the 2021 Dakar Rally. The American, Skyler Howes of Husqvarna Factory Racing, was placed third overall with a fifth in the last stage, five minutes and four seconds behind Benavides. After nearly 44 hours and 30 minutes and 5,000 kilometres of racing against the clock, the winning margin was less than a minute. Price had a 12-second lead going into the last stage and almost missed his third Dakar Rally bike title, but he gave credit to teammate, Benavides. In his fourth start in the famous off-road rally raid competition, Howes earned his maiden podium finish. After six stages, this St George (Utah) native was in the lead overall. In stage competitions, he finished on the podium five times on his Husqvarna 450 Rally Factory. Howes, who has recently won several significant races and has also established himself as a well-known factory-backed star rider in rallies, maintained his stunning ascent with a third-place finish at Dakar. Ice Speedway Berlin Is Back: coming March 2023

by Janaki Jitchotvisut from https://www.rideapart.com MADNESS ON MOTORCYCLES : All gas, no brakes, infinite slides. Ice Speedway Berlin Is Back On The Racing Calendar In March, 2023 It’s been three long years, but in 2023, Ice Speedway Berlin is back on the international racing calendar. If you’ll be in Berlin, Germany, on March 3 and 4, 2023, and you’re interested in taking in some of the best ice speedway racers from Germany and beyond doing their thing, then you’ll probably want to get your hands on some tickets. The last Ice Speedway Berlin took place from February 27 through March 1, 2020, and was one of the final major motorsport events prior to global pandemic-related shutdowns. If you’re unfamiliar with the sport, we wholeheartedly recommend that you check out this video, which was taken during day two of the 2020 Ice Speedway Berlin event. The 48th Ice Speedway Berlin event in 2023 will be a bit different from what’s gone before. After the bad luck of the past few years, everyone was hopeful that a normal Ice Speedway event in Berlin would be able to happen in 2022. However, problems arose with machinery related to maintaining the ice surface of the track, and a 2022 event was not able to go forward. After that issue was solved, though, another one popped up to take its place. Due to a breakdown in discussions between event organizers and the FIM, for the first time, the Ice Speedway Berlin event will have neither European Championship nor World Cup status. While international racers are invited to attend, it will not be a regular, sanctioned event that is part of a larger championship calendar—something very unusual for this event, indeed. Nevertheless, ice speedway luminaries including Hans Weber, Max Niedermaier, and Fyn Loheider have already confirmed
