The trip is scheduled to begin at Badlands Harley Davidson at noon and will take roughly two hours with a socially-distanced pit stop planned for Echo Dale Park. Anyone attending is encouraged to park at least six feet away from other bikes.
by Paula Tracy from https://www.seacoastonline.com LACONIA – On Monday night, Laconia City Councilors will be asked to approve the 97th Progressive Laconia Motorcycle Week for Aug. 22-30 if it cannot be held June 13-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Charlie St. Clair, executive director for the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association, said he is hopeful the request will be approved. “It’s too important an economic event for it to be canceled,” said St. Clair, who is also a Democratic state legislator. He said if the rally is postponed until August and the pandemic is not greatly improved in summer, he would look to find a date and hold it into the fall. “We would not expect the numbers to be what they normally are,” he said, estimating 300,000. “But who knows, maybe everyone will be chomping at the bit.” Gov. Chris Sununu is in the driver’s seat ultimately. He is concerned about health and safety as well as the economic consequences. Sununu said this week he wants to hold out as long as possible before deciding. He has held out, as well, on closing or modifying the use of campgrounds, which many bike week enthusiasts rent out from across the country, along with hotels, motels and house rentals. The visitors would require, gas, groceries, and restaurants, which currently allow for only take-out under the emergency orders due to the pandemic. Sununu said he spoke with Laconia Mayor Andrew Hosmer and discussed the matter on Thursday. Laconia Bike Week is the oldest and third largest motorcycle rally in the nation. The largest is in Sturgis, South Dakota, Aug. 7-16. The Sturgis City Council will vote June 15 on whether to hold the rally this year. By NIKKI WENTLING from https://www.stripes.com WASHINGTON – A motorcycle rally in the nation’s capital, designed to replace the popular Rolling Thunder event, won’t happen on Memorial Day weekend because of the coronavirus pandemic, organizers announced Tuesday night. AMVETS took over plans for a motorcycle ride through Washington after Rolling Thunder organizers announced that 2019 would be their last event. Rolling Thunder, a 32-year-old tradition, attracted hundreds of thousands of participants every Memorial Day weekend. AMVETS planned a similar event, Rolling to Remember, for the weekend of May 23. “As always, the health and safety of our riders and the veteran community is our top priority,” AMVETS said in a statement. “Due to the federal and state restrictions on public gathers and the guidance of the public health officials amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the Rolling to Remember motorcycle demonstration will not take place in Washington, D.C.” The goal of the three-day event was to focus on raising awareness for prisoners of war and troops still missing in action, as well as the issue of veterans suicide. Instead of the in-person ride and rally, AMVETS asked motorcyclists to ride 22 miles on May 24 in their local communities, while following social distancing guidelines. The 22 miles recognizes an often-cited statistic that 22 veterans die by suicide every day. Participants can download a phone app titled “REVER” to track and share their ride. The weekend Rolling to Remember activities were expected to kick off May 22 with “Blessing of the Bikes” at the Washington National Cathedral. AMVETS was working with the National Park Service to have a stage on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial with speakers and other programming. Last weekend in the USA during the Daytona Bike Week, the New York-Rzeszów motorcycle built by the Polish company Game Over Cycles took first place in the “Over 1000 cc Custom” category in the Rat’s Hole Custom Bike Show. The competition was held in Florida as part of Daytona Bike Week 2020, one of the largest motorcycle events in the world, which annually gathers about 500 000 people. Rats Hole is a very prestigious and the longest (since 1952) organized custom bike show in the world. The prize awarded to the Polish machine was received by Bobbi and Lucy Wawrzaszek, Poles living in the USA, who own the motorcycle and on whose order GOC made the vehicle. The New York – Rzeszów Motorcycle, as it is fully named, is an extraordinary custom Harley-Davidson Street Bob inspired by New York and Polish city of Rzeszów. The bike was made for a Polish couple born in the Rzeszów region and currently living in New York. The machine is intended to express local patriotism of both homelands of the vehicle owners. This is manifested in the unique design of the motorcycle, which contains characteristics of the architecture of given city. These parts are not only elements of ornamentation, but also fully functional components of the motorcycle. The main elements of the construction containing the architecture of given city are: New York: – wheels with Manhattan buildings engraved in metal. The winter riding season is filled with time-passing activities such as cleaning, polishing, tinkering, adding new farkle, map reading, route planning, and some occasional riding. In late February the weather allows us more limited access to the road, so sometimes we use our time to hone our skills. Club President Mike Conley conducted a second training on the installation and use of the Sena 30 Bluetooth communication module on Feb. 19. While we have several modes of motorcycle-to-motorcycle communication (CB radio, cell phone, hand signals), the mesh capability of the Sena 30 is best suited for a group of riders going down the road spread over a distance of almost a mile. Twenty-seven members attended the Quarterly Meeting and Social on Thursday, Feb. 20. The event is getting so popular that we are beginning to outgrow the Board Room at the Grill. Once again, we enjoyed great fellowship and the sumptuous hamburger buffet. We owe a debt of gratitude to our board members, but a big nod goes to Mike Conley for the great presentations at the socials. The information, pictures, and overall good synthesis of the material in an enjoyable format make for a great session. Itching to get back on the road after a string of cold and wet weather, the club held a lunch ride to Nocona, Texas on Monday, Feb. 24. Cruising north central Texas is wonderful because of the great roads, homey destinations, and great places to eat. Nocona is always popular. The Horton Classic Car Museum is worth the trip by itself. It is quickly becoming the “Classic Car Capital of Texas” with over 120 classic cars in its collection. The museum is housed in what once was the town’s Ford dealership. by Bill Roberson from https://www.forbes.com Just over a decade ago, word went out on nascent social media channels and through the Portland motorcycle scene that a quasi-underground one-day-only motorcycle show was going to take place in an unheated abandoned warehouse in the dead of Portland’s dark and dreary winter. There would be bikes, live rock-n-roll, and as rumors then suggested, a large supply of Pabst Blue Ribbon for anyone willing to brave near-freezing temperatures and a steely, persistent Northwest rain to search out the whispered locale. The organizers expected a scrum of Portland’s more hardcore riders to attend. They weren’t even close. Over a thousand people turned up for that first show (including this rider/writer), which showcased a surprising number of head-turning bikes both classic, modern, custom and otherwise. There was also a fair bit of moto-inspired artwork, and, of course, beer and music. The One Motorcycle Show was born in Portland legend. After moving through ever bigger venues over the years, for 2020 the One Motorcycle Show had to be housed in the sprawling Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the second largest stage in town after the adjacent Moda Center, where the Portland Trail Blazers play. Let’s just say it’s a really big space. And it’s needed, because after some smaller-scale racing events at past shows, this year brought some for-real dirt track racing action to the Coliseum’s inner arena during the show. Portland has a vibrant and eclectic motorcycle scene, and eleven years on, the bikes, beer, bands and vibe of “the One Show” – as locals call it – has morphed into one of the biggest and most unique events on the international motorcycle calendar. It now includes corporate sponsorship (this year from Polaris-run Indian and Progressive Insurance, among others), plenty of show merch, an array of tasty microbrews
