Is This 750 HP Suzuki the World’s Fastest Street Bike Down the Quarter-Mile?

by Dragos Chitulescu from https://www.autoevolution.com Doing quarter-mile runs on the dragstrip might not sound as scary at first; that’s if you’re used to normal road-going vehicles, either on two, four, or multiple wheels. But what happens when said vehicle manages to complete the quarter-mile (402 meters) in less than 7 seconds? And what if instead of a cosy and stable four-wheeler you only get two wheels? If you’ve ever watched any videos of really fast cars going down the quarter-mile, you might have noticed that sometimes it’s difficult to keep them going straight, and crashes can often occur at very high speeds. Now take away two of the wheels, and you get increased levels of insanity. Chris Moore is one of those daring men who just wanted to push things as far as possible by building an absolutely mental motorcycle. He had one goal in mind: to be the fastest at the drag strip. Usually drag purposed motorcycles tend to wheelie excessively, which means the whole thing can go haywire very quickly. This also leads to a slower run, as both wheels are not making contact with the ground. To avoid these wheelies, pro drag racers usually install a bar behind the motorcycle, which is aptly called a wheelie bar. But Chris decided to do away with one, and basically run a custom-built motorcycle that can still be called a street bike at the end of the day. With 750 horsepower on tap, which is more than you get with a Ferrari 488 Pista for example, this motorcycle has just set a new record, running the quarter-mile in just 6.3 seconds, with a top speed of 233.64 mph (376 kph). I guess slapping a massive turbo on an already fast Suzuki GSX-R1000 really does help! Looking over the performance specs

AHDRA Gainesville Spectacular Finishes Off 2020

AHDRA motorcycle drag racing series race coverage report. When Bill Rowe purchased the assets of the inert AHDRA All-American motorcycle drag racing series late in 2019, the challenges before him and his family staff were daunting enough. But when 2020 came along and the event landscape went haywire, Rowe put his head down and completed a schedule for AHDRA racers at some of the best tracks in the world—finishing the season at legendary Gainesville Raceway on November 6-8. Raceday started off with a rousing, live National Anthem by Rebecca Daniels and was topped off Monday’s true, classic racing banquet with great food and drinks in a suitably classy atmosphere. Champions get gold cards, jackets, great framed Moto-Lenz montages, and of course—#1 plates. When Did Drag Racing Start?

The Day Organized Drag Racing Was Born –by Tim Bernsau, HotRod.com Organized drag racing celebrates its 70th birthday on July 2, 2020. On that day in 1950 the first “official” drag race took place at an out-of-commission Army airbase in Santa Ana, California. Soon that airbase was established as Santa Ana Drags, the world’s first commercial dragstrip. When it closed nine years later, drag racing had become a nationwide sport with established rules and classes, national championships, and a major sanctioning body. Dunlop Motorcycle Tires Builds Its First Drag Racing Tire

from https://www.sfgate.com/ Created for professional and amateur drag racers, Dunlop Motorcycle Tires has created the new Dragmax in 190/50ZR17 size, the most popular size for serious drag racers on metric and V-Twin motorcycles. BUFFALO, N.Y. (PRWEB) March 30, 2020 Dunlop has never focused its considerable engineering experience on building a drag racing tire until now. But the time was right to support the drag racing market due to the higher demands of the Pro Street Bike class, where horsepower and speeds have achieved new levels in recent years. Professional and amateur drag racers that are required to run DOT motorcycle tires had few choices. So, Dunlop created the new Dragmax in 190/50ZR17 size, the most popular size for serious drag racers on metric and V-Twin motorcycles. The Dragmax is a radial tire that utilizes Dunlop’s exclusive N-TEC construction, similar to that of Dunlop’s rear road racing slicks. N-TEC combines the benefits of cut-breaker construction, which increases stiffness, with continuously-wound aramid Jointless Tread construction for maximum feel and stability. This design allows racers to run very low pressures, increasing the footprint for maximum traction. The compound is also very soft, the softest street compound Dunlop has ever produced in its Buffalo, NY plant. A completely new profile that’s wider and flatter than a typical hypersports tire also helps lay down a bigger footprint. And the tire’s construction minimizes centrifugal growth to keep that footprint as consistent as possible, which also reduces the risk of de-beading. Krawiec In The Lead At NHRA Finals Face-Off with Teammate Hines

In an all-Harley final round, Krawiec defeated his Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines teammate Andrew Hines in the first head-to-head face-off of the new Harley-Davidson Street Rod competition drag bikes. Krawiec scored the 40th win of his career on Sunday while setting the low ET (6.826 seconds) and fastest top speed (197.74 mph) of the event for Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations. “We are racing a couple of great Street Rod drag bikes right now,” said Krawiec, who won for the fourth time in five final-round appearances this season. “They are handling well, they are fast and most importantly they are smooth and consistent. We can race round after round and know exactly how these bikes will react. If we maintain this performance we will be a force through the playoffs.” In a weekend dominated by the two Harley racers, Hines secured the top qualifying position with a best elapsed time (ET) of 6.825 seconds at 196.50 mph. Krawiec qualified his Street Rod drag bike second at 6.836 seconds and 195.00 mph. On Sunday, Krawiec and Hines battered the Pro Stock Motorcycle field, and for the 20th time the two former champions lined up to face each other in a final round battle. On this afternoon, Krawiec prevailed with a 6.850-second blast to better the 6.911-second pass posted by Hines. After the first of six rounds in the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship playoffs, Krawiec leads the Pro Stock Motorcycle class with 2,202 points. Hines is in fourth place with 2,144 points.
