Mission Accomplished at XDA’s Bike Bash

DESPITE A POOR WEATHER FORECAST, XDA racers delivered an unstoppable performance for the 3rd Annual Bike Bash at Virginia Motorsports Park. With a tropical storm off the east coast, the daily weather forecast for the Bike Bash was on a magic carpet ride. However, XDA racers WANT TO RACE and showed up ready to rock the quarter-mile. The Millers modified the schedule, and the quarter-mile was humming all weekend. The event was forty-five minutes away from completion on Sunday when a large weather cell came through to end the party prematurely. Four classes will finish their final rounds at the Bike Brawl on September 10-12, 2021 at Virginia Motorsports Park. With 561 entries, the Pro classes delivered with a very tight field of competitive racing, our sportsman racers kept the show rolling with the toughest bracket racing in the game; and the Team Money Cycles Sound Off and Custom Bike Show kept the dial turned up all weekend. Orient Express Racing Pro Street The Orient Express Racing Pro Street racers continued to improve their performance standings as Virginia delivered cooler temperatures for these 650+ horsepower machines. Justin Shakir took the number one qualifying spot on Friday night with a 6.505 before Rodney Williford knocked Shakir down a rung on Saturday with a 6.464 pass. During the Saturday qualifying session Darion Payne improved his personal best ET to a 6.652 and broke the 220mph barrier with a 221.42mph run. Curtis Brown also improved with a 7.011, and we expect to see his first six-second pass at the next race. In round one of eliminations, James Waugh poked his head into the 220mph barrier running 220.33mph and improving his ET to a 6.601 while winning over Ryan Hable. Proposed drag racing series faces safety, noise concerns

Pete Scalzo, who has a pending special event application for an multi-series event called Race Track Not Street at EPCAL, said all vehicles racing on the temporary 1/8-mile track on the 7,000-foot EPCAL runway will be required to have a muffler. Vehicles will be inspected prior to racing, he said. Motorcycles would not be permitted to race as well. Several residents spoke out against two pending racing proposals, including a separate event called the Scrambul Runway Challenge, during the May 19 Town Board meeting. “Everything will comply with strict safety protocols,” Mr. Scalzo said of his event, citing his experience with promoting more than 170 drag racing events that have been successfully completed without incident as well as running four race tracks. “I’m proud to say I have never ever had a claim paid out to a racer or spectator.” Racing will be limited to the 1/8-mile track with a speed limit set at 115 mph or no faster than six seconds, he said. He said those limits are not common at drag racing events and he’s received some negative feedback from racers, but has agreed to those limitations to ease safety concerns. Racers will also be required to wear a helmet, a change from his original presentation before the Town Board in April. He said the helmets will be required even thought the insurance company does not mandate it. The event would be sanctioned by the National Hot Rod Association, Mr. Scalzo said. Is This 750 HP Suzuki the World’s Fastest Street Bike Down the Quarter-Mile?

But what happens when said vehicle manages to complete the quarter-mile (402 meters) in less than 7 seconds? And what if instead of a cosy and stable four-wheeler you only get two wheels? If you’ve ever watched any videos of really fast cars going down the quarter-mile, you might have noticed that sometimes it’s difficult to keep them going straight, and crashes can often occur at very high speeds. Now take away two of the wheels, and you get increased levels of insanity. Chris Moore is one of those daring men who just wanted to push things as far as possible by building an absolutely mental motorcycle. He had one goal in mind: to be the fastest at the drag strip. Usually drag purposed motorcycles tend to wheelie excessively, which means the whole thing can go haywire very quickly. This also leads to a slower run, as both wheels are not making contact with the ground. To avoid these wheelies, pro drag racers usually install a bar behind the motorcycle, which is aptly called a wheelie bar. But Chris decided to do away with one, and basically run a custom-built motorcycle that can still be called a street bike at the end of the day. With 750 horsepower on tap, which is more than you get with a Ferrari 488 Pista for example, this motorcycle has just set a new record, running the quarter-mile in just 6.3 seconds, with a top speed of 233.64 mph (376 kph). When Bill Rowe purchased the assets of the inert AHDRA All-American motorcycle drag racing series late in 2019, the challenges before him and his family staff were daunting enough. But when 2020 came along and the event landscape went haywire, Rowe put his head down and completed a schedule for AHDRA racers at some of the best tracks in the world—finishing the season at legendary Gainesville Raceway on November 6-8.
