Oil Transfer Problem on a 2019 Harley-Davidson

Recently I was on a ride from South Carolina to Sturgis (and then on to Colorado). One of the crew, my friend Biji, is one of those guys who has been a motorhead since Moses came down from the mountain with the stone tablets, and he’s studied M8s since they came on the scene. We have all heard about the early M8 engines having a problem with oil transfer from the transmission to the primary case. The obvious result is not enough oil in the transmission and too much in the primary. We have also heard that Harley fixed that problem on newer models. I thought my new 2019 Glide should be good-to-go. However, Biji said that wasn’t the case and each of us needed to check our transmission oil. I’ll start by saying this sucks to write about. I am a die-hard Harley guy. I’m not just invested in these bikes. I’m all in. I work on my own bike. I read Harley-Davidson history, hung out with great builders, built bobber, ran chopper events, rode cross country all around Harleys. Possibly, the main reasons I ride a Harley is the Chopper Culture. We like to work on our bikes. Fueling Vented Dipstick for Touring Harleys

For Twin Cam and M-Eight Touring Photos and text by ROGUE The Feuling Billet Dipsticks are made In America and they vent excessive crankcase pressure from the oil tank on Harley Touring Models through a PCV style breather. Blow by is pressure that is forced past the rings and cylinder walls and ends up in the crankcase and then into the oil tank. All internal combustion engines have a certain amount of crankcase pressure and it does increase with miles. Large cubic inch engines have a tendency to have more blow by as well. The Vented Dipstick comes with a sheet of instructions and I suggest you read it before starting installing this product. Magnificent Stock H-D Replacement Rigid Frames

Edlund Frames Classics from the Masters The good Doctor Hamster was in a jam recently. We were building a Panhead basket case with a modified stock Knucklehead frame. We had it straightened and fixed by the local master Dr. John. We still weren’t happy and decided to search for a stock Panhead frame. Hell, it was the only way to go. Pandemic Panhead Project, Part 2

The tanks and fender are out to Deny 925, the master of patina paint, for a scallop classic paint job. In the meantime, I needed to install the Morris Mag, decide on a carb, install the front brake, finish a handful of welds, work with the guys at Bates on a clutch cable, make an old clutch lever work, hell, make the brake lever work and find a brake cable, take the springer apart and add Paughco inner springs, install the headlight and taillight, make a muffler bracket and mo’. Lindby Linbar Tech to the Rescue

Beware Fake Lindby Knockoffs By Bandit and Charly We’ve been working with Lindby for awhile and I’m surprised how often their product line surfaces. Lindby makes the Linbar for Softails, Touring Harleys, Dynas with forward controls and mid-controls. They make five different styles from the original Linbar, to the Twinbar, Multibar, Unibar and magnumbar. Check ‘em out on line. NAMZ Throttle by Wire Tech Tip

Editor’s Note: Us old school guys need to know about this new shit. It’s not that new anymore, but what the hell, we need to know the does and don’ts and where we can find solutions. More and more I find myself helping guys with newer bikes, and I’m intrigued by the new M-8 configuration, since it slipped back in the direction of the EVO. Here’s a quote from a builder recently who said, “Evos were capable of any horsepower we could get from a Twin Cam, but the price of modifying Twin Cams is high. Now you can get double the power of an Evo with a 117-inch M-8 and the cost isn’t so high.” He recently built a 117 from a 107 and got 145 Horsepower and 133 pounds of torque. Incredible. We hope to bring you more M-8 performance techs in the near future. Thanks to the guys at NAMZ we can understand how the Throttle-by-Wire system works.–Bandit CLICK HERE TO READ THIS TECH ARTICLE ON BIKERNET Subscribe to the Cantina today – Join Now https://www.bikernet.com/pages/custom/subscription.aspx Shop for 5-Ball Racing Gear here – https://shop.bikernet.com/

The Mysterious Bikernet Weekly News for May 14, 2020

Some ups and downs… I completely understand the need not to overwhelm our medical industry. And recently the Sturgis Rally discussion surfaced. One report worried that all the decision makers had solely financial cards in play and that the decision might be forced in one direction, to make money off the rally. I said the players run the gamut from Zero tolerance control freaks to freedom riders, party animals and the money makers. I hope they can find balance. But in the end motorcycling wins. As long as we are riding, we’re safe and free. Just ride through Sturgis and keep going. Ride into the hills of the Badlands. Ride through Yosemite and Zion. Ride through Flagstaff and Monument Valley. Just Ride! Think about it. Life can be fucked or fun, it’s up to each one of us. Find the path and follow it to Nirvana or another Redhead, both are heaven. And make sure you ride all the way… Freedom Forever, –Bandit CLICK HERE TO READ THE WEEKLY NEWS ON BIKERNET JOIN THE CANTINA – Subscribe Now https://www.bikernet.com/pages/custom/subscription.aspx
