Galveston Gears Up For The Lone Star Rally

In just a few weeks, bikers from across the country will make their way to Houston and to Galveston Island… delivering more than $115 million in much needed positive economic impact to the community. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the arrival of the 2017 Lone Star Rally event is more eagerly awaited than ever before! This year’s rally will once again present more than 40 free musical performances in genres from classic rock and adult contemporary to rockin’ country on two sound stages – the main stage at Saengerfest Park downtown, and a second at Beach Central Park in front of the Hotel Galvez. Houston area day trippers are encouraged to come out and enjoy all the free, non-stop entertainment only the Lone Star Rally provides. Headliner acts include Tom Keifer, former frontman for Cinderella, Friday night and country legends Sawyer Brown playing Saturday. Two additional headliner acts are currently being negotiated for Thursday night and Sunday afternoon, with announcements scheduled in the coming days. Big rig displays of motorcycle parts and accessories will dot the island’s three event zones: Downtown/The Strand, Harborside at Pier 21 and Beach Central Park at Seawall. As well, hundreds of vendors selling everything from leatherwear to jewelry, sunglasses to crab cake sandwiches will fill every nook and corner of the Strand and along the seawall. The return of the Lone Star Rally could not come at a better, more needed time for Galveston and the greater Houston area as thousands of area residents stay #TexasStrong while rebuilding their communities with indomitable spirit. Indeed, the #SpiritOfTexasIsStrong in Galveston! For up to the minute details, like the Lone Star Rally on facebook and Instagram, and visit LoneStarRally.com. Stay Strong, Las Vegas!

The tragedy in Las Vegas last night is extremely upsetting and we pray for everyone the tragedy has affected. I think we can all agree that in this world of individuals who do not value life, we have to stand strong and make a statement that this type of incident will not force us to cower or hinder us. Las Vegas BikeFest is on schedule and we do not anticipate any changes. As many of you know, the event site is Downtown Las Vegas, 8 miles from where the events unfolded last night, and as always we are working with the Las Vegas Police Department to protect our event. We urge everyone to continue their travel plans and know that our event staff, security staff and each of us are always vigilant in observing the surrounding areas. We look forward to seeing you at Las Vegas BikeFest. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 866-BIKEFEST (245-3337) or 702-450-7662. #VegasStrong

Human Riders Still Kick AI’s Ass In A Motorcycle Race

Humans have been getting their tails handed to them by computers. A.I. has been regularly trouncing humanity in classic games like chess, Go, and Mortal Kombat for years now. But there’s one area where we still reign supreme (for now): motorcycle racing. The Yamaha MOTOBOT project began in 2015 with the goal of an A.I. driving a motorcycle “with no modifications made to the motorcycle itself.” MOTOBOT controls six actuators on the bike: the steering wheel, throttle, front brake, rear brake, clutch and gearshift pedal. As a test for the ambitious project, Yamaha and partners SRI International gave themselves an equally ambitious goal: MOTOBOT beating MotoGP racer Valentino Rossi. Rossi, a coworkers of the researchers while racing for Movistar Yamaha MotoGP, has won a remarkable 89 out of the 301 races he has been in professionally. Make that 90 as he smoked MOTOBOT. FOUND SUNDAY POST for October 1, 2017

Hey, I’m a strange one. I like to create at home, but every time I hit the road I run into amazing folks, opportunities, resources and finds. I need to go out more often. What about gambling? See you at last Vegas Bikefest. I’ve had some folks tell me they can’t advertise with us because of our girls, bad language and jokes. I find it humorous. We are bikers aren’t we? We do shiz bikers do like build wild shiz, do wild shiz and chase wild girls. What the **** are we supposed to do, polish our riding boots, wear a uniform, and go to cultural events and study art from the greats who sodomized little boys? Life is confusing. Let’s hit the Post and then go do something crazy or climb in a redhead’s bedroom window.

Further Adventures of the Borderland Biker -Chapter 25

After breaking free of the old building and jumping aboard our bikes everything went from the slow motion of running through water to the herky-jerky pace of an early 1920s hand cranked movie. Our race through the streets of Oakley had more twists and turns than I remember. Were the giant GPS sunglasses Hilts had attached to our handlebars really leading us out of town and away from danger? Click here to read what happens next.

19 Lids, 19 Artists from 13 States Mix it up

I like custom bike shows where builders enjoy interacting with enthusiasts. I get a kick when I see a guy get on his hands and knees evaluating a billet battery box. Over the last 7 years my team and I have handed out over $1 Million in cash and prizes. That’s why when you come to a J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Show, Championship of America show or a Kustom Kulture Artisan Show, you see great bikes. Builders and custom bike owners revel in the competition. Click here to read more.

Bikernet Book Review: Wild Bill Gelbke” By “Buzz” Walneck

Like hangin’ in a bar reminiscing with an old friend, telling tails and drinking Hamms. Or sitting around the dining room table going through scrapbooks. As the night goes on the Hamms goes down a little easier, stories get grander and tend to get repeated. This is how Buzz Walneck relates the story of Wild Bill Gelbke and his motorcycle Roadog. Kirsh Helmets Feature Fluid Displacement Liner

Kirsh Helmets attended the American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) on September 21–24. The fifth-annual event presented by Nationwide took place in Columbus, Ohio for the first time. The Greater Columbus Convention Center hosted dealers, media, and consumers throughout the four-day event, and Kirsh Helmets showcased the new, made 100% in America, CHM-1 helmet with its patented Fluid Displacement Liner. “We expected to do well,” said Donald Devito, President and Chief Operating Officer of Kirsh Helmets. “But it definitely went better than we could have hoped, and we were gratified with such a great reaction from all types of attendees, from media to customers to retailers.” Starting with their lowest-profile, toughest, and most-effective DOT-certified half-shell motorcycle helmet on the market, Kirsh is gearing up to dominate its competition in the motor-vehicle crash helmet category. Kirsh Helmets, Inc., and parent company Impact Technologies LLC were formed in late January 2017 to take up the challenge of commercializing the innovative, patented technology invented by Jason Kirshon. Focusing first on solving the problem of unsafe—but popular—novelty half-shell motorcycle helmets, Kirsh’s product outperforms “competing” helmets by orders of magnitude in independent testing. The company’s helmets are DOT-certified and made from the highest-quality materials, coupled with the most-advanced impact technology available, and again, made entirely in the USA. For more information about Kirsh Helmets, visit kirshhelmets.com or follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram: @kirshhelmets.
