Wreaths Across America

A Chance To Remember, Honor and Teach As of today, there are only 3,598 sponsored wreaths, with 30,402 graves that will not receive a wreath. For me and a few friends/veterans, it’s become an annual tradition…and is involving more and more people every year. The communities all come together – Veterans, Bikers, Civil Air Patrol, Boy Scouts, Young, Old, Widows/widowers, children, grandchildren and even some canines – to participate and honor. Texas Bikers Stop VFW’s No MC Colors Policy

from https://www.motorcycleprofilingproject.com/ The National Council of Clubs, representing the interests of motorcycle clubs and thousands of their members in every state in America, is both concerned and appalled at recent reports of Veterans organizations, including some VFW, American Legion, and Eagles posts, among others, denying access to individuals expressing membership in motorcycle clubs. So what’s the solution? The Texas Council of Clubs & Independents recent campaign in response to a policy of discrimination announced by the state VFW serves as an example of a successful strategy for others facing similar acts of discrimination by private Veterans organizations in their states. Texas VFW General Orders of discrimination Dated October 2019, the Department of Texas VFW sent General Orders to all VFW Posts throughout the state outlining a new written policy which includes a provision excluding all 1% MC members, employing gang labeling, from VFW events and property. The TCOC&I quickly became aware of the General Orders through local VFW posts in numerous areas of the state and immediately began a campaign responding to the new policy of discrimination. Motorcycle clubs have a long history of having events at VFW posts, many motorcyclists are members, and relationships are strong in many places in Texas, as they are throughout America. TCOC&I uses social media to apply pressure Representatives of the TCOC&I began spreading the VFW letter through social media channels. Thousands in Texas and across the country became aware. On October 9th, a direct response from the TCOC&I in the form of a formal letter was sent to the Texas VFW outlining the community’s request that the policy be reversed. The TCOC&I emphasized the historical ties between the MC community and VFW’s throughout Texas. 38% of the club community are Veterans, more than five times the national average. MC meetings, benefits, and social

Veterans find purpose, support through motorcycle rides

by Patrick Filbin from https://www.stripes.com/ (Tribune News Service) — Chris Mathison served three tours in Iraq over a 14-month period. As a U.S. Army infantryman, he was in charge of millions of dollars worth of equipment, led a team of fellow infantrymen and, all things considered, was a soldier who was depended upon and good at his job. When he came back home to Tennessee, he had a hard time adjusting. The Nashville native moved to Cookeville after he got out of the service in 2011 and tried to find a stable job. “I’ve probably been through 10 jobs,” Mathison said. “It’s hard to find something that fits. You don’t feel like you belong, there’s no sense of purpose or belonging.” He went to school and received an associate’s degree, but even school was a tough adjustment. “I remember very fondly when I got out, I was going through a sociology class,” Mathison recalled. “As we were flipping through the book, I found a picture of my unit in Iraq and it just kind of blew my mind.” Mathison, 35, had a whole life behind him that he had a hard time talking about. Not only was the subject matter sensitive, he couldn’t find like-minded people to talk to. As an infantryman, he was surrounded by people who were going through the same things as he was, living through the same experiences. When he came back home, he was taking general education courses with 19-year-olds. “That was interesting,” he said with a smirk. Soon after he got out, Mathison signed up for his first program with the Wounded Warrior Project, the country’s largest veterans charity organization. He enrolled in the organization’s TRACK program, which had a curriculum meant to heal, develop and train the mind, body and spirit of each

Paris Harley-Davidson, Adam Sandoval set new world record

by Macon Atkinson from http://theparisnews.com Paris Harley-Davidson and philanthropist Adam Sandoval have set a new Guinness World Record for continuous Harley-Davidson motorcycles on parade. In an event dubbed Bring it Home 2019, 3,497 motorcyclists from across the country rode their Harley Davidson bikes through Paris on a 3.5 mile ride, the Guinness official announced. The record has been taken from Hellas Motorcycle Club of Patras, Greece, which previously held the record set May 22, 2010, with 2,404 Harley-Davidsons making a 2.8-mile trip. Paris’s parade raised money for Motorcycle Missions, a nonprofit that helps first responders with PTSD. The $15 per bike registration fee was donated entirely to the nonprofit, with over 3,400 pre-registrations, said event organizer Molly Beaudin, who is also a dealer development manager for Paris Harley-Davidson. “I don’t even know what to say. Let’s hear it for America. We officially brought it home,” Sandoval said. See Sunday’s edition of The Paris News for more coverage of the parade.

Veterans Come To The Rescue Of A Fellow Stranded Rider, Bruce Springsteen, End Getting Flack For It… Really?

From CNN Note: No matter what our beliefs may be, at the end of the day we’re all riders, we’re all American and we’re all in this together, for better or for worse—you know what I mean. So we might as well make this ride a good one, because no-one else will . Dan Barkalow did not think twice before stopping by the side of the road near Freehold, New Jersey, to help out a stranded fellow biker. Then he noticed the guy looked familiar. It was none other than Bruce Springsteen. “It’s a day I probably won’t forget for a while,” Dan Barkalow, 54, told CNN. “The moment I got off the bike I saw it was him, and he was a real nice, down-to-earth guy.” After sharing their brush with Jersey royalty on the Facebook page for the Freehold American Legion – Monmouth Post 54, however, the bikers said they experienced an unexpected backlash. “What started out as a story of interest posted to our American Legion Facebook page has devolved into a nauseating political altercation full of vitriol and insults, none of which are from our members,” said a statement on the page. ” If we are to survive as a nation both sides have to stop the hate.” “It’s pretty disgusting,” Barkalow said later of the nasty comments. “All I know is, I’m a pretty humble guy. I just stopped to help someone out.” Read the entire story here.
