All the proceeds benefit The Friendly Door and its Meals On Wheels program. Dozens participated to support the cause. For company service writer Bobbie Gilmore, the Red River Harley Davidson poker run ride has been something she’s been doing for as long as she can remember. At this year’s 33rd annual ride, she and others said it felt good to be out riding together again. “Everyone that knows Red River knows this is a nostalgic ride for us,” Gilmore said. “Everyone wants to be a part of it and get in on it, and you just tie in just by being here and we’re all a family together riding.” The event started with an 80 mile motorcycle ride, followed by lunch and raffles. The ride has only gotten cancelled three times in the past, one being last year due to the pandemic. “COVID killed it earlier, and they just got cleared,” Gilmore said. “So they got cleared, we’re ready to go, let’s do it.” “It really has a big turnout,” Tom Venhaus, a chairman for The Friendly Door, said. “For them to give up their time on a Sunday to do the ride and then to come here and we do lunch.” This year, the proceeds from the poker run will go to The Friendly Door Senior Center of Iowa Park. House Passes Highway Bill – Biker Priorities Included

Thursday morning the full House of Representatives passed H.R. 3684 the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America Act or the INVEST in America Act. This bill is more commonly referred to as the highway bill. The bill is over 1,500 pages, spends $715 billion and includes five beneficial provisions for motorcyclists. The final vote on passage was 221 for and 201 against. Two Republicans voted in favor and no Democrats opposed. The Senate has begun work on their version of the highway bill and the two chambers will eventually need to work out the differences before an agreed upon bill is sent to the President for his signature. Traditionally, a highway bill has a five-year lifespan before Congress must fund and reauthorize programs again. Typically, highway bills occur in years ending in 0’s and 5’s. The last highway bill expired in 2020 but was given a one-year extension as Congress was unable to reach a compromise. Congress now faces a September 30th deadline to pass a new highway bill and reauthorize crucial transportation and safety related programs. Below is a brief recap of the five motorcyclist related items that the House of Representatives approved and included in this major piece of legislation: Profiling: The bill includes an update to current federal law on the issue of motorcycle only check points. The bill passed today includes language that prohibits state and local governments from using funds from the Department of Transportation to “profile and stop motorcycle operators or motorcycle passengers using as a factor the clothing or mode of transportation of such operators or passengers.” Traffic Stop Data Collection: An amendment to the bill by Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-R) and Congressman Michael Burgess (TX-R) added the term “mode of transportation” to a newly created

One of them is being auctioned off by Triumph, via the Mecum sale in Monterey in August, to benefit a non-profit dedicated to troubled youngsters. The California-based organization is called Boys Republic, and Steve McQueen himself was a 1946 alumnus of the group. The bike to be sold is serial number 0278, a number that matches the number plate McQueen used on his bike in the 1964 International Six Days Trial. Moreover, it is being sold with a unique certificate of authenticity with the signatures of Steve’s son, Chad, and Triumph CEO Nick Bloor. As an extra perk, the buyer of the motorcycle will also receive an invitation to the annual dinner of the Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show. The Four Kings of Oklahoma held Saturday’s event to raise money for first responders. In addition to the cars and bikes, food trucks, local vendors and even artists were on hand. Artist Len Nordmann say, he has traveled the country making automotive art for over 25 years. Len Nordmann, Artist, says, “I’ve always had a love for automobiles and I sold my first painting when I was 10 years old. And from then on, I’ve always had an interest in doing special buildings and also doing homes and doing businesses and then also cars.” Dale Wano, Sales Manager, says, “We just want to have everybody come out, have a great time, look at some awesome cars, look at some awesome motorcycles and enjoy the fellowship of being together.” They also gave out door prizes from local businesses. Florida motorcycle club holds 15th annual memorial ride honoring fallen heroes

This year it began with a memorial motorcycle ride in honor of the first female corrections officer killed in the line of duty. More than two dozen officers in Southwest Florida have been killed in the line of duty in recent years. Darla Latham is one of the officers. Every year the Florida Defenders Motorcycle Club makes sure to honor her. Vinny Gorgogolione is the President of the Charlotte County chapter of the Defenders. “Today’s our 15th annual fundraiser in the name of the Darla Latham who was killed in the line of duty during a prison break in 2003,” said Gorgogolione. Hundreds of bikers from different chapters all around the country gathered for Latham and other fallen officers. “I think it’s important to focus our efforts on officer safety and those that do get injured or killed on the line of duty that there’s somebody there to try to help them and their families out,” Gorgogolione said. Toney Mineo recently retired as officers and they rode from the east coast to who their support for this forever brotherhood. “It’s heart-wrenching for first of all that we know what they go through,” Mineo said. “Our job as a former law-enforcement is to make sure they’re OK and if they need anything to step up to the plate.” The money raised is to support our local men and women in blue. Cajun Harley Davidson ‘Ride to Provide’ for St. Jude’s Hospital

If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend and support the children at St. Jude at the same time, then you need to join in on the Cajun Harley Davidson “Ride to Provide”. The ride is Saturday, December 5th at 10 am. Registration starts at 8 am. Motorcycles are $20 and $5 for an additional rider. Jeeps and Hot Rods are $25. T-shirts will be provided while supplies last. You’ll also be able to participate in a silent auction and 50/50. There will be vendors and food also. Road Captain is Moon Griffon. This ride is not only to raise funds for St. Jude, but it’s also to raise awareness. Many people don’t realize how much St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital does for families, including many families from here in Acadiana. Local motorcycle clubs raise money to feed families during the holidays

On Wednesday, Nov. 25, members from Dead Men M.C., Boneyard M.C., Chariots of Light M.C., Unknown Saints M.C., as well as representatives from Flaming Gorge Harley-Davidson presented a check to the Albertson’s store as part of their Tons of Turkey Food Drive. “It means a lot for the community,” said Albertson’s manager Eric Rumple. “It means everything to us to be able to give back to the community, especially this time of year.” Kenn Boyd, a member of Dead Men M.C., said that in past years the riding community would give to the food bank. However, during this time, many people are donating to the food bank and it’s difficult for them to store the food. Albertson’s will use the money to create meals and deliver them to the food bank so that families can pick them up and have food on their tables during the holiday. The excess amount of proceeds will roll over into the “Santa Boxes,” which is essentially the same thing. All contributions will stay in Sweetwater County. The riding community plans to do the same fundraiser next year and will get started earlier to hopefully gain sponsorships and double the amount of money raised
