Additional modifications include a tan canvas roof cover, spotlights, and decorative side pipes. The grille was reportedly sourced from a 1953 DeSoto, while the split bumpers are from a 1956 Pontiac. The left rocker panel is dented, crazing is visible in the paint, and scratches are present on the body panels. Chrome-finished steel wheels wear polished hub caps and are wrapped in Coker classic wide whitewall tires that show age. Stopping power is from four-wheel powered disc brakes with red-finished calipers. The car has been channeled over the chassis, and equipment includes front and rear suspension components that were reportedly sourced from a Chevrolet Monte Carlo and are hydraulically adjustable. The cabin houses swiveling front bucket seats and a rear bench that were reupholstered in black leather under prior ownership. A color-coordinated headliner, door panels, and carpets have been fitted, and cedar wood trim accents the center console and armrests. Additional features include Vintage Air climate control, power windows and locks, a glove box, sound-damping material, and a Jensen cassette stereo. The dome lamp lens is stained. The four-spoke woodgrain steering wheel is mounted on a tilt-adjustable powered steering column, and center-mounted instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer as well as gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 272 miles, approximately 25 of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown. The 396ci V8 was installed under prior ownership and is equipped with a finned Hilborn-style air intake, a Holley carburetor, Mickey Thompson valve covers, and an aluminum radiator. Service under current ownership included changing the oil and replacing the spark plugs. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed automatic transmission. Corrosion is visible on the underside, and additional underbody photos are presented in the gallery below. Magazine articles featuring the car are included in the sale. The South Carolina title carries an Exempt brand, and a reproduction VIN tag is affixed to the firewall.

100 WFC: Long Rides by Steven Sanner

Long Rides
by Steven Sanner
with illustration by Wayfarer

After over 40 years of her by my side, she is gone. You always hear how tough real bikers are. Seldom will you see them cry. That’s because the wind drys the tears while we ride to clear our heads and handle the emotions. We use the rain, and the water drops in the shower to mingle and mix with the tears that no one sees. We know that the emotions and pain prove we are still alive, and accept the strength that comes from it. I may seem like a tough old emotionless bastard, but excuse me if I have to go for a long lonely ride.

Life & Times of Bandit 2023

It’s non-stop from LA to Sturgis to Bonneville, Deadwood, Bikes and Books…
by Bandit

The shop was finished and we experienced our first real winter in the Black Hills. The redhead slid off the driveway in her Subaru and it took two pickups, chains and an excavator to pull her back onto the concrete, and we don’t live on a hill…

This has been a tremendously meaningful year. Wild accomplishments, projects, violence, setbacks, death and creative inspirations. I feel so incredibly blessed to have this experience in the Black Hills.

I was working on my third Knucklehead chopper tech, and something dawned on me. I just turned 75 and beheld all the cool stuff I can do this year. I can build a modern S&S Knucklehead in a modified vintage frame with an old stock XA front end, including old and new parts. Then I can build a 1913 H-D board-track racer, because vintage shit is being manufactured all over the world. I can write another book, go to Bonneville with the Salt Torpedo, build metal art, work on my home in Sturgis, drive a lowered ’58 Chevy, learn the history of South Dakota and write cool articles on Bikernet every day! What could be better…

Royal Enfield offers Assured Motorcycle Buyback Program

Royal Enfield is now offering an opportunity for buyers to get assured resale value for the purchase of their new motorcycle. This is made possible with Enfield’s new ‘Assured Buyback Program’. The two-wheeler giant has partnered with OTO Capital for the buyback program, promising guaranteed buyback value of up to 77 percent depending on customer’s selected tenure.

Flexible purchase tenures spanning from 1-3 years are on offer, ensuring customers up to 45 percent lower EMIs with guaranteed buyback value as per the ownership period. OTO Capital is offering a cashback incentive at the end of the tenure in a first-of-its-kind initiative.

Enfield is calling it a seamless ownership experience.

Customers have the option to either trade in their existing motorcycle for a new RE offering or return their motorcycle when their choice of tenure ends. Apart from this, lower EMIs will translate to a lower cost of ownership for customers.

Commenting on the launch, B Govindarajan, CEO – Royal Enfield, said, “At Royal Enfield, we always prioritise the customer. Right from the stage of motorcycle conception and development, all the way to designing in-store and in-use consumer experiences, we always endeavour to create what consumers want. The Assured Buyback Program shows our commitment to making motorcycle ownership more seamless, more accessible and more fun for potential riders. Offering a first-of-its-kind, innovative solution, this programme is designed as a promise to consumers for complete peace of mind, so they can absolutely enjoy a pure motorcycling experience with Royal Enfield.”

For now, Royal Enfield Assured Buyback Program will be available in 12 cities including Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bhopal, Indore, Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai. This scheme will later extend to other cities in the future.

Preview: A Climate Conversation

Self-canceling claims, such as “we own the science,” serve only to divide. Science, by definition, cannot be about consensus; the earth is not flat, and the sun does not revolve around us. We should welcome challenges to theories as fundamental to human flourishing. Without dialog, there is no science.

A Climate Conversation rejects extremism in favor of a constructive debate on climate change. Devised and produced by geophysicist Walter Johnson and filmmaker Colton Moyer, A Climate Conversation offers viewers a welcome opportunity to reach a consensus based on shared values of environmentalism and humanitarian compassion.

An autocycle from Yamaha?

Yamaha already has the unique Niken which has two front wheels and one rear tyre — the front wheels moving together using the handlebar.

Now, it seems they wish to venture into a proper “autocycle” territory. People were fascinated by Polaris Slingshot– and maybe Yamaha believes they can do it better.

The Yamaha Tricera concept vehicle has been revealed. It features an open air design and three-wheels positioned very much like Slingshot.

With the ambition of providing an improved and futuristic riding experience for its worldwide customers, Yamaha may soon reveal this Tricera concept ahead of an official launch. I guess its their way of saying it is safer than speeding down the streets on a typical Yamaha R1?!

This concept version has been mentioned by the company, providing some insights and some of the key, important features of the vehicle.

It is reported that Tricera will make a special appearance at the upcoming Mobility Show, which will take place in Japan in November.

From Yamaha:
Feeling the unification of mind, body, and machine

This three-wheel open-top electric autocycle pursues the unfiltered joy derived from operating a highly responsive vehicle. Its development concept is “Exciting Urban Mobility: When one’s body and mind and the machine become an organic whole.” This vehicle for personal mobility not only delivers the unparalleled feeling of freedom of an open-top car but also a new Kando*-filled driving experience with its three-wheel steering.

The TRICERA’s human-centric packaging was derived from the level of controllability felt when changing the center point of the vehicle’s turning circle via the in-phase and counter-phase of the rear wheel.

Additionally, enabling the user to select a manual mode for rear-wheel steering allows for the sense of accomplishment that comes when acquiring and developing new driving skills. Modern mobility is shifting toward automated driving, but that is precisely why Yamaha Motor is going back to basics and exploring the Kando that is created when a person is at the controls.

*A Japanese word for the simultaneous feelings of deep satisfaction and intense excitement that we experience when we encounter something of exceptional value.

100 WFC: Preacher Run by J J Solari

100 word fiction contest continues…. #100WFC

Preacher Run
by J J Solari
with unholy illustration by Wayfarer

Some preacher self-absorbed pile of sanctimonious piety yelled at me, “Do you know what you need to do to be saved???” ….all accusatory. I said, “Yeah: be born after 33AD, cockfuck, which I was. Is that about how you gut it figured?” Apparently it wasn’t. He proceeded to order me to Hell. I said “Will you be there?” He said not a chance. I said “I’m on my way!!” He managed to get even more infuriated. Which, based on his current level of fulminary spittle-spraying, I thought very impressive.

The Timely Bikernet Weekly News for October 12, 2023

Hey,

It’s timely and maybe not. Life is so ironic even to an old grubby biker. On one side folks want to ban smoke. They are very afraid. It’s all nuts.

It’s all the best of times in the Black Hills of South Dakota. We took my Mossberg 12 gauge pistol with a 14-inch barrel and blew the shit out of everything in its path. There was one other shooter at the open range outside Deadwood, Scott. Tremendously knowledgeable about my old, used shortened hunting rifle, an 1885 Krag 30-40, he coached us on the rifle and helped tune the sight.

Fred Cuba threw his first Twisted Nipple Event in Nebraska. You’ll see a report shortly.

In the meantime, ride fast and free forever…
