PRISON GUARD MARRIES PRISONER–ESCAPES–Motel clerk didn’t see woman’s ‘husband’For two days, Vickie Sanford, a wanted Tennessee prison guard, and escapee Edward R. McDaniel lived as a couple at a Days Inn in El Paso, Texas. She told the hotel that she and McDaniel were married. She registered as Vickie ”Ward.”And the couple in Room 210 seemed like any other guests. But early yesterday morning, the life they ran away to ended.

Based on a tip, the U.S. Marshals Service and El Paso police swooped in on Sanford, 51, and McDaniel, 37, at the motel. The two surrendered without resistance shortly after 1 a.m., El Paso time.

They were wanted in Nashville since authorities discovered McDaniel missing from the Lois M. DeBerry Special Needs Facility on Sunday. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation put out a warrant for Sanford, a guard at the prison, a day later.

TBI officials say they think Sanford assisted in the escape of McDaniel, who was serving a 20-year sentence for the attempted first-degree murder of a West Tennessee lawman in 1996.

EL PASO BIKE THEFT RING BUSTED–Stolen goods recovered,40 to 50 bicycles,11 flatbed trailers,9 motorcycles (two Harley-Davidson, two Yamaha, three Kawasaki, one Honda, one Visao),7 quad motorcycles,6 cement mixers,3 dune buggies,2 scooters,2 go-carts,1 industrial welder stolen Monday.Several electronics, air compressors, generators, welders, tools and Euro-style wheels.Contact your neighborhood police regional command center if you suspect that a recovered item belongs to you.Source: El Paso Police Department.

A Harley-Davidson and two other motorcycles stashed in a bedroom were among more than $250,000 in stolen goods recovered Tuesday in a pair of police raids targeting a theft ring, police said.

The loot was found after the Mission Valley tactical team raided two Lower Valley homes — one in the 100 block of Gaspar and the other in the 200 block of Pasodale — police said. Two men and three women were arrested.

The raids were a break in an investigation into a yearlong, citywide theft spree, said Lt. Lalo Balderrama. He stood amid stolen motorcycles, flatbed trailers, industrial equipment, Euro-style wheels, more than 40 bicycles and two deflated jumping balloons in the back lot of the Mission Valley Regional Command Center.

COURT OKS WIRETAP IN RACKERTEERING CASE–DAYTONA BEACH — Police can use wiretaps to investigate prostitution rings operated by organized crime, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

The issue was considered in an appeal by James Otte, 53, who was arrested in Deltona four years ago and charged with breaking Florida’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization statute when officials tied him to Elegant Encounters, an escort service run by his wife, Diane Fratello.

Otte, a former corrections officer at Tomoka Corrrectional Institution in Daytona Beach, was charged with racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering and deriving support from prostitution.

Fratello was sentenced to probation after a plea agreement, according to Otte’s defense lawyer, Gerard F. Keating.

Florida’s high court ruled in 1995 that police can’t tap phones to investigate prostitution. But the latest decision doesn’t overturn that case because the current case focus was more on racketeering than prostitution, Justice Raoul Cantero wrote in Thursday’s 6-1 opinion.

Keating said the case will go back to trial court. He intends to file a motion for dismissal.

HARD LINE TECH COMING–Just got finished writing this up for a friend who wanted all the details about how I ran the hard lines on my scoot. I wrote it from a plain ol guy, for plain ol guys. I figured since you post stuff from Kent and Richard I’d give it a shot. And since RFR is on the rampage about not covering anything technical it would be only the right thing to have one of his fellow Texas pals send in some tech write up LOL!

BTW I’m an engineer not a journalist, so let me know what you think. If you don’t plan on using it please let me know so I can get it out to all my HORSE buds.

HIGH SCHOOL BUILD OFF– I aminterested in getting a new class project bike goingthat would be raffled or sold off as a fund raiserfor my classes. This bike would be composed of partsdonated from different companies and built in class asa true class project build. I am thinking that wecould do a 5 or 6 or more part series of articles onBikernet and Street Chopper.

We would start out by announcingthe project and call for donations (all Taxdeductible) and then the next article would spot lightall the people who donated items towards the project.

The articles after that would show the build progressand as new parts are donated a plug for that companywould be included. The bike when finished would thenbe taken to a bike rally..the Smokeout, maybe?? We could raffle/auction or put up for sale, so people whofollowed the build could come see it, and hopefullysomeone would buy the bike. The money would then beput into the school to help support the class for muchneeded equipment. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

HUGE REMODELING BINGE IN DAYTONA–That’s the prevailing philosophy, expressed perhaps through clenched teeth, as the area’s hotel industry struggles to rebuild after hits from hurricanes Charley, Frances and Jeanne.

All repairs must conform to modern building codes, so damaged structures will be forced to reopen with improved windows and roofs, and in some cases, upgraded landscaping and signs, according to building officials in Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach and Daytona Beach Shores.

“Everyone’s cleaning up, refurbishing, installing new carpet, new drapes, wallboard, paint and plaster,” said Bob Davis, president of the Hotel-Motel Association of Volusia County. “It’s going to take awhile, but it’s going to be accomplished and we’re going to be better for it.”

Some buildings may be completely replaced, but Davis worries that some broken-down properties might be left as eyesores for years, forcing cities to wage lengthy code enforcement battles in court to have them demolished.

The roll call of shuttered motels reads like a war casualty list.

The Adam’s Mark Daytona Beach Resort, the Acapulco Hotel and Resort, the Boardwalk Inn and Suites, the Daytona Beach Hilton Resort, the Beachcomber Oceanfront Inn, and the Seaside Inn will all remain closed for repairs past Jan. 1, Davis said.

Late fall or early winter openings are planned for the Best Western Mayan Inn, Perry’s Ocean Edge and the Palm Plaza Oceanfront Resort.

At the Best Western Mayan Inn, workers are replacing the hotel’s roof, carpeting in all 112 rooms, drywall in 30 to 35 rooms, and hauling in 50 to 60 new sets of mattresses and box springs, general manager Larry Hall said last week.

Hotel officials hope to reopen by Nov. 10 — in time for the holidays but too late for the Oct. 21-24 Biketoberfest event. Managers ruled out rushing repairs to reopen before the motorcycle event, even as other businesses are desperate to recoup Labor Day weekend revenue lost to Hurricane Frances.

Down the road, workers at the Esquire Beach Motel hope to be ready for Biketoberfest even though just 15 of the property’s 68 rooms are habitable, general manager Janet Kaiver said. The motel’s owners had been planning to remodel the motel one floor at a time, Kaiver said. The storms shot down those plans, but the good news is much of the work will be funded by the property’s insurance instead of company coffers, she said.

Permits for most repairs under way on the beachside aren’t required under emergency provisions authorized by state law. Interior repairs to water-damaged carpets and walls don’t require permits, and the emergency laws allow property owners to fix roofs, windows and doors without prior approval.

But major roofing jobs will be inspected and permitted later, and property owners are still required to hire licensed contractors for jobs that normally require permits, according to Paul McKitrick, Daytona Beach assistant city manager and former chief building official.

In Daytona Beach, structures with damage valued at more than 65 percent of the total assessed value must be upgraded to meet the city’s land development code. That code regulates the amount and type of landscaping on the property, the size and height of its signage, and how many feet from the road a building can be located. In Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach Shores, land development code compliance is required if damages exceed 50 percent of a building’s value.

BIKERNET SENT LUCKY DEVIL TO VICTORY PRESS LAUNCH–Kent, from Lucky Devil Custom Motorcycles in Houston, was assigned the Victory Hammer press pass, although Rigid Frame Richard, the Bikernet Texas Babe photographer, pitched a bitch, “I could have handled it,” Richard complained.

Office politics went all to hell as a myriad of Texas cuties called supporting RFR’s assignment attempt. “He’s cute,” they said. But Kent’s wife, Holly, called and whispered over the phone, “I’ll kick your ass if you change your mind.”

Those few words cemented my decision. And now from the Devil himself:

Mission Accomplished! I have just retuned from Austin on dispatch from Bandit to review a new model from victory for Bikernet. Victory had plenty of staff on hand to answer questions on their new model as well as therest of the ’05 line up . Then we got to the important stuff, riding the bikes!!

We suggested road course through the hill country and after lunchthey turned us loose with a road map and a request to return the bikes that evening. I made sure to put my subject through a good thrashing and even gave it the 100 mph stamp of approval!

I am working on a full story tocover the new model but for now I’ll name no names but the new model’s initials are The Hammer.

Take care, The Devil

BIKERNET CARIBBEAN REPORT–As you might already know, there was a bunch of us at the CCI dealer show in Morgan Hill, as always it was cool to be able to hang out with friends. I’m always looking at things; let’s say observing, since I have my own way to interpret certain happenings and what goes around me in general.

They put together the World custom something show, let’s say the best custom in the “world” was chosen there, I really use the word “world” very loosely. It?s cool that guys from many places were there and we got to see some bikes, cool shit that there were some Old School representation, like I have said before, those narrow tires are back, in a big way (I guess even if they are not I have said it so many times that some will start to believe me). They had an OEM class, which was won by a pretty cool Knuck, but even on the display floor, and I mean vendors, there were so many cool bobs and chops, and let’s not even talk about the hot chicks.

jose - kendra

I guess that there’s some things that go unnoticed. While I was watching the people go up on the stage to take their turn at the wheel, I noticed the people that actually went there. I saw a lot of leather, boots and the normal “biker” regalia, I mean what anyone with no experience in this “lifestyle” would consider the exact preconceived idea of what a “biker ” is. But the funny thing is, or interesting, for use of a better word, I would guess that most of these guys are old shop owners, who lived the life and wore boots even to a basketball game.

Again, when someone says the word biker, a mental image of any of those guys could easily come up, but here’s the catch, maybe we are a new breed? Besides the typical corporate guys who now own shops, since it’s very profitable and trendy, with their neatly pressed shirts and tassel shoes. I guess we are the “young” guns, mostly builders who also own shops or run very successful businesses. We have our own way of being and even wearing what we want. This is no fashion column, but maybe some will realize what I’m talking about.

Sneakers have replaced boots, leather jackets have been replaced by Ike jackets and even sweatshirts. I guess we look more like surfers, skaters, and even blue-collar workers than actual, “bikers”. Dickies and Levis are the wear of choice, t-shirts, non HD, etc. As I have been thinking about this I have also been searching for a name, still searching, mind you, one thing that is definite is that we don’t look like “bikers” at all. I guess the times are changing. Tattoos are normal, piercing as well, long hair is not looked at “that dirty hippy”, do you follow me ?

Also the bikes have gone simpler, although there’s rages that have been followed, most build bikes by a style they follow, and most ride their bikes, really beat the shit out of them.

jose n jesse rooke

There was a time when all bikes turned into customs were very similar. Today they can be at each end of the spectrum. One thing is for sure, everything seems to be simpler and much less ornate (even if it takes ten times longer to do) or you can be at a show and see bikes from knucks to the latest futuristic chop, side by side. I really don’t know how an old biker sees us, since I’m not, but I guess they are of freaking out that these urban builders have seeped thru their precious lifestyle, and are going full force. Here I will leave you, with something to ponder.

On a sadder note, my good friend Bradley the polisher had a pretty bad accident in Texas a couple days ago, he’s in ICU and we are all hoping that he makes a full recovery, as well as the girl that was riding with him. Please include them in your prayers, it really sucks that friends keep going down; I guess this is the price we pay for the way we live.

I know things at Bradley?s shop will be tight, since Bradley will be in the hospital for some time, if you have something that needs polishing, please consider his place, they will need the money, plus they do a hell of a job. The name of the shop is Hands off Polishing and the number is (972) 487-8220, also the guys at the Horse have done a page for him, it’s http://www.ironcross.net/Bradley check it out and help in what you can. Thanks.

Biketoberfest is around the corner and we will be there, riding around and just having a good time, also at the Horse show at the Last resort bar. If you see me , come and say hi.

See you next week from Biketoberfest.

Jose ? Caribbean Reporter

dave mann

TRIBUTE TO DAVID MANN–On September, 9th I called Jacquie Mann and asked her if she would wish David happy birthday on the 10th at the hospital for me. In so many words Jacquie explained to me these were Dave’s last hours. She said she would like to have him cremated and then use a bike tank as an urn.

The first image that came to my mind was a 2.25 Sportster tank painted David Mann red mounted Frisco style on a Hog backbone just like Dave’s bike. I still had a can of paint from when I painted Dave’s bike in ’97 and figured that was pretty fitting.

All I did was design it, Kenny Morris of Hot Rods ‘N Hogs in Stanton donated all of the fabrication and paint work. The backbone was one Carl at Cyclepath in Garden Grove had gotten from Chica a few years back and he sold it to me for his cost. The cherry red Baltic Birch base was made and donated by “Poor Fucking” Jim and Gene Koch from Drag Specialties donated the Landmark gas cap.

The urn will be at David Mann’s memorial held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds on December 12th. (See Complete Event Details On Bikernet) There will also be 50 of David’s original paintings on exhibit at his memorial. If a person has only seen the reproductions of David Mann’s work in Easyriders or Biker they will flip-out when they see how much intricate detail is in his live art. I can’t stress enough how important it is to see his work in person. Well that’s about it bro, I’ll see you at Dave’s memorial.

DAVE MANN ERN
Dave’s urn by Krylon John.

THE NEWS IS TOAST–I’m always after a new finish line, and this one doesn’t exactly work. Ah, but what the hell. It’s been a strange week and something the Meanest Woman alive said to me has struck home. She bitched about all the soft spoken terms floating around, all the brotherhood comments and warm remarks, unlike the usual burn-out and broken bottle rhetoric. So let’s consider her heated demand. Since she lives on the opposite coast, I can’t gangster slap her around.

Indian Larry, a chopper icon, died recently, David Mann, the ultimate biker artist and friend passed, Ray Charles slipped away, we’re at war and it doesn’t seem to be doing anyone any good. We have friends and neighbors risking their lives daily in the hot sands of Iraq. The entire world hates our guts, and Florida is permanently flooded. Alligators have taken over the swamps from New Orleans to Jose’s Puerto Rico. Then today a girl, named Lori, called.

She’s Wino Joe’s daughter. Wino Joe was the finest outlaw biker photographer to straddle a Sportster. He’s a nomad Gypsy Joker and a man with more heart than… Well, you get the picture. Yesterday he had a massive heart attack and a stroke. He can’t speak and is currently hospitalized. Finally Bradley and Cheryl, from Texas, were snagged in a terrible bike accident and hospitalized.

The brotherhood flows when the times are tough. We need to reach out to others when brothers are down, life is unsure and tomorrow is just a roll of the dice. Many of the wild men of our industry are getting older an some are fading away. It’s only during these times, that we are snatched from the daily grind, from bitching about the price of chrome and gaudy paint jobs, to reflect on the past, on brotherhood and friends.

I gotta go, I need to find out how Wino Joe is doing. Oh, I’m looking for a saucy little Mexican girl to help around the shop.

Have a terrific weekend.

Ride Forever,

SCREAMIN’ EAGLE DRAG TEAM ADVANCES TO SEMI-FINALS IN READING–Andrew Hines Stays on Top in Pro Stock Bike Points Race.

MOHNTON, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2004) – Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines drag racing team riders GT Tonglet and Andrew Hines qualified for the Sunday Pro Stock Bike elimination rounds at the 20th Annual Lucas Oils NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway. Hines advanced to the semi-final round of eliminations and now holds a 131-point lead in season points with two Pro Stock Bike events left on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule. The event at Maple Grove Raceway took place this weekend after being postponed by rain on its original starting date, Sept. 16.

“We made it as far as the semi-final round again today, but the Screamin’ Eagle team has stayed consistent all season and it’s consistency that wins championships,” said Hines. “I’d sure like to take home another win this season, but we leave Maple Grove with the points lead and that’s what matters right now.”

Four rounds of qualifying on Friday and Saturday pared a field of 25 riders down to 16 qualifiers for Sunday eliminations. Hines qualified in third position with a run of 7.089 at 193.57 mph, the fastest speed posted during the event. Tonglet qualified 14th with a 7.179/187.96 run. Antron Brown led all qualifiers with a 7.057/187.57 pass.

The order of qualifying forced Hines and Tonglet to face off in the first round of eliminations. Tonglet was first off the line with a 0.038 reaction time to 0.062 for Hines, but Hines throttled his Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod to a run of 7.168/187.21 to beat Tonglet’s 7.897/127.94.

In round two, Hines (7.140/187.99) defeated Karen Stoffer (7.199/178.61) to advance to the semi-final round for the sixth consecutive event this season. Hines (7.149/191.05) lost to Angelle Savoie (7.053/190.19) in the semi-final. Savoie (7.018/191.29) defeated her U.S. Army teammate, Antron Brown (7.047/184.35), to take the win in the final round.

“The Screamin’ Eagle team won some rounds and kept Andrew out front in points,” said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Anne Paluso. “We’ve faced some challenges this season but Byron Hines and his crew have stayed steady and we keep getting closer to that championship.”

With two Pro Stock Bike events left on the schedule, Hines leads Brown by 131 points for the season championship. After 13 of 15 rounds, Hines has 1,114 points, followed by Brown with 983 points. With her win at Maple Grove, Savoie moves up to third place with 938 points, followed by Shawn Gann with 871 and Craig Treble with 842 points. Tonglet is sixth with 726 points.

The next Pro Stock Bike event on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series is the 4th AnnualAC Delco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, Oct. 28-31, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas.

The Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Pro Stock Bike team is sponsored by Dunlop, Ford Quality Checked Certified Pre-Owned, Matco Tools and S100.

TECH QUESTION AND ANSWER FROM S&S–I read your article on Evo flywheels in a Shovelhead. I am building a old 1966 flat side Shovelhead. I know I will have to change the pinion and sprocket shafts to match my cases. What year Evo wheels will adapt to my cases? Are the Evo wheels the same diameter?

Thanks for the tips.

–Glenn

Response from James Simonelli at S&S.’85 & early 86 are the only ones that will work. You need special shafts. They are available from JIMS. You can use an S&S design sprocket shaft also, but the flywheel has no keyway. They are 8.5″ diameter, same as stock.

CANADIAN WINS FIRST OFFICIAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF CUSTOM BIKE BUILDING– Morgan Hill, California, October 9th 2004.

THE first annual Official World Championship of Custom Bike Building has been won by Roger Goldammer of British Colombia, Canada. The noted parts engineer (www.goldammercycle.com) and motorcycle craftsman demonstrated a level of attention to detail and dedication to excellence that had judges, fellow competitors and event visitors alike drooling over his exquisite homage to boardtrack racers of old.

Goldammer carried off the cut-glass trophy, diamond-and-sapphire Championship ring, and $25,000 cash top prize in the freestyle class of the World Championship by the narrowest of margins.

The independent panel of judges drawn from the US and European motorcycle Press placed Jesse Jurrens and Michael Prugh of Independent Cycle, Rapid City, South Dakota second, with Belgian builder Fred ‘Krugger’ Bertrand third.

The contest, widely described by competitors and judges alike as the highest standard custom bike competition any of them had ever seen, attracted 64 entries in total, across three classes, with 47 of them in the prestigious Freestyle class from which the World Champion was chosen.

The number of entries far exceeded the organisers’ expectations and featured an extraordinary variety of custom bike design styles and motorcycle engineering innovations.Superb choppers were on show, but far from dominating the competition, the event demonstrated and reflected the glorious individualism and multiple strands of custom motorcycle engineering that have resulted in the sector achieving unprecedented levels of public exposure and popularity worldwide in recent years.

As befitting the name and ambition of the contest, the top ten Freestyle entries reflected the truly international nature of the custom v-twin industry, with five Americans, two Germans, a Canadian, a Belgian and a Frenchman taking the top spots. The AMD ProShow competition that constitutes the Official World Championship was presented and generously supported by Global Motorsports Group custom V-twin sector parts distributor Custom Chrome at its 18th annual Dealer Show at Morgan Hill, California.Watch out for further news releases and pictures as they become available, with comprehensive reports, features and details of winners and entrants of all classes being placed in the World Championship registry in the event web site at www.amdproshow.com as soon after the conclusion of the event as possible.

Had to break down and buy a new M/T rear race tire Sunday morning. Haul ass to the tire trailer and mount it. Then thrashed like crazy, adjusting clutch, make a jet change etc. to make the first round call. Missed moving up by .030 sec!!! That’s racin. Drag racin anyways.

Off to Phoenix the end of Oct. for some R&R. Don’t have a schedule yet, would like to make it to the coast. May not have enough time though. E-mail you later on the Dis. show

MAN CONVICTED OF MURDER FOR RUNNING OVER BIKERS IN PANHANDLE–PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) – A jury recommended against the death penalty Friday for an Arkansas man who ran over six Michigan Outlaws motorcyclists with a stolen pickup truck, killing two of the bikers.

Jurors deliberated only three minutes before opting for life in prison without parole, the only alternative to death for Timothy Pilgreen on two premeditated murder charges.

The same jury Thursday found him guilty of two murder charges, four counts of attempted murder and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Circuit Judge Don T. Sirmons will sentence him Oct. 15. Sirmons is not bound by the jury’s recommendation but must give it great weight.

Following an altercation with the bikers at a fishing pier, Pilgreen killed Donald Dunham, 61, and his wife, Nola S. Zeitler, 47, of the Outlaws’ Bay City, Mich., chapter on Oct. 29 as they were riding on a motorcycle at nearby Panama City Beach.

DAYTONA CITIZENS AIR FEELINGS ABOUT BUFFALO CHIP–I am certain that there will be no nudity out at the Speedway,” Mayor Yvonne Scarlett-Golden said.

PANHEAD TOM SAID…..”Men and women ride naked on their motorcycles,” Tom said. “I don’t care what they say about cleaning up the event, when it’s late at night and the campfires are going there’ll be naked girls running around. There’s no way getting around it.”

Commissioner Shiela McKay said Monday the Buffalo Chip event will hurt the image of the city.”It’s nothing more than another drunkfest,” McKay said.

HAHAHAHA.. Hey Shelia…. SHUT UP!If you don’t like it, then don’t go. I for one think it’s a good idea to hold it at the speedway. Let them have their fun. Who the hell cares if they get a bit silly and naked. If you don’t like the fact that someone is having fun … then don’t go…..

Commissioner Shiela McKay said Monday the Buffalo Chip event will hurt the image of the city.”It’s nothing more than another drunkfest,” McKay said.

MONSTER GARAGE CHOPPER BUILD WAS COOL– I caught your act on the tube the other night and I must say I really enjoyed it. It was good to see other old farts still building them the old fashioned way. I don’t often like the new breed of chopper, but this is still America. Everybody can ride what they like.

I have been fortunate to ride what I please for some 35 years of miles and smiles. I have been blessed with some great brothers in that time. Some of those are no longer with us, but they ride with me in my heart.

From what I have seen of you over the years, (in the magazines) I have often thought that we have similar tastes in bikes.

The last time I saw Rip Rose here in Lousiana, you and your bikes were one of the things we talked about. I saw the 5-Ball bike last year at Strokers and just loved it. I was amazed at the number of people that passed right by it to go drool on the billet barges up front. The guy behind the counter was tickled that I had spotted it and we became instant buddies.

I like your VL and maybe one day I can show you the picture of my mom on hers in 1944. I’m glad you are still doing your thing. Keep it up!

BUELL’S LIGHTNING CITYX– A NEW release from Buell, the Lightning CityX XB9SX, is available now.Buell claims that the combination of mid-range power and agile handling make the CityX the ultimate streetfighter and the ideal machine for commuting and urban riding.

The CityX also has a new slant on the Naked Bike style.A translucent plastic gives the airbox and flyscreen a distinctive blue color while leaving the mechanical parts within still visible. The combination of black cast wheels and the same color for the lower body panels is both for style and practicality. The color is said to camouflage urban grime.

Other styling details include the handlebar deflectors, headlight grille and the X guard for the airbox. The seat and handlebar relationship gives the rider an upright position and thus good visibility in traffic.

The engine is the Buell Thunderstorm 948cc fuel-injected V-twin engine.Claimed output is 83bhp and more than 63ftlb of torque. The powertrain is installed in a Buell Lightning chassis, complete with Showa suspension.

This results in a bike with the ultimate in agility combining a short wheelbase with steep steering angle and a short trail for sharp steering.

Other definitive Buell styling cues embodied in the CityX include the fuel contained in the frame; the swing arm that doubles as an oil reservoir and the muffler tucked under the engine.Continued into 2005, the Buell range also offers the Lightning XB12S and Firebolt XB12R.

STEALTH REPORT FROM N.C.–I would like to start off this week by congratulating Mr. Bandit on the great bike build on Monster Garage. The bike turned out great and the mini interviews with all the participants were great!

This past week has been kind of slow and for me personally it has been a week of personal bull at work. I think it may be time for me to roll the dice on this one and see how it plays out. After awhile it seems you wear out your welcome on jobs. Oh well, life goes on!

One thing I came across this past week at a local Wal-Mart that just opened here, you know one of those where you can get your oil changed while you shop and then eat lunch all in the same place.I was looking around in there and I came across a whole section devoted to West Coast Choppers and O.C.C. and even Monster Garage apparel. They even had other shirts that featured the Iron Cross. It is funny how at one time I thought the Iron Cross was a symbol used to piss authority off and now it seems that it is just the “COOL” thing to wear.

It was funny seeing all the WCC and OCC shirts there, it reminded me of when I first got into bikes and started hanging out with a few guys who owned bikes, they would always tell me “You don’t wear the shirts unless you have the bike!” I took that advice to heart and never wore the t-shirts until the day I picked up my Sportster. I guess all of that has changed too! It is cool now to look and dress like someone who rides even if you do not own a bike. One good thing about this is that if you want to buy any of this stuff, the prices were less than anywhere I have seen.

Another thing I came across in the toy department was all the West Coast Chopper replica toys, from trucks and cars to bikes. Now I have to admit these are pretty cool! All of this just goes to show how big of an impact the Discovery Channel shows have had.

One last little tid-bit, My son Blair and I went to lunch together Tuesday, the day after Monster Garage. I was wearing my Bikernet t-shirt and a guy comes up to me and says “I saw that t-shirt on Monster Garage last night, the big guy was wearing it, Do you know him?” I just smiled and said “Yeah I know him!” Mr. Bandit you made us all proud!

Ride down to your local Wal-Mart and check out all the “COOL” biker stuff!

Until next week!

MONSTER GARAGE AND MEMORIES–I missed the show before your’s with the gorilla. A friend of mine from Florida was on that one.

I did watch your deal from start to finish and enjoyed it. The $5,000 premise was a kind of a joke, but they gotta make a show that America can suck up. The open primary made me flash back to the first time we met. El Monte, courthouse, you had like a chain link fence over a pretty much, open chain primary… Least that’s how I remember it. I’m teaching myself how to speak Spanish by watching Mexican TV. I’ll talk to you later.

BUFFALO CHIP AT BIKETOBERFEST AT THE SPEEDWAY–This really IS going to be interesting. I’ve gone to the Buffalo Chip events. I wonder if the speedway is planning to check id’s at the gate because this is like a biker drunk fest held at a nudist resort. I’ve enjoyed them in the past, but I would never take my kids to them. I never took them to topless bars, either, so I can’t say what other parents let their kids do. Like Naknek said…”Family event…….in your dreams”.

If the speedway thinks they can change the nature of this event and control what goes on, they’re crazy and the people that believe that are clueless.

This is NOT for teenagers. The drinking age is 21 in this state so the speedway will have to limit this party to 21 and over because there is no way they will be able to control who drinks and who doesn’t. I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Think about it people……..would you want your teenage daughter taking part in the pickle eating contest? If you don’t know what that is, ask someone that has been to Sturgis or use your imagination. lol

Alright, enough snivelin’. I’m not going to slow a goddamn thing down, so the goal is to keep up, and do it with style. Let’s hit the news, but first I promised a reader to post the deminsions of Don Hotop’s alignment tool:

It was 48.5 inches long. Starting from one end it was 6 inches wide for 10 inches, then cut in 2 inches for 6.25 inches, then wide for 10 inches, cut in 2 inches for 6.5 inches and wide for 15.5 inches. It was plasma cut out of 1/16 inch of sheet metal. We used to align the final drive. Works for belts or chains.

POLICE CHIEF FIRED AFTER HURRICANE IVAN–UNADILLA, Ga. – City Council members have fired the police chief of this middle Georgia city after a fight they say occurred in a hotel room during Hurricane Ivan.

The council voted 5-1 Thursday to fire Police Chief Gregory S. Hattaway for what Mayor Sidney Hughes called conduct that discredited the city.

The incident involved a fight between Hattaway and the boyfriend of a woman who was in a hotel room with the chief, Hughes said Friday.

The city provided the hotel room for Hattaway, who lives out of town. He was staying in the room for duty during the storm, Hughes said.

“Me in my younger and lighter (and tighter?) days.”

CRAZY HORSE’S ASS REPORT–It was no problem to come up with a topic after reading through last weeks “Your Shot.” E Man and Hiwayman hit on two subjects that have happened to me. Back in 1980, I was 20 years old and was with my boyfriend, a 6? Triumph riding dude. Derek looked kinda geeky and he acted geeky, but at times, like when he was on a bike, he was a study in grace and toughness. This one night at our neighborhood MacDonalds, brought out that side of him. We were standing in line behind these this very big black guy. I mean Shaq had nothing on him. He had to be atleast 6?6″ 230 lbs of solid muscle. He gave his order and when the little white manager (this guy was about a very skinny 5′?6″) opened the cash drawer, this big guy reached over and tried to snatch money from it.

Well, the little dude slammed the drawer on his fingers. The big guy was pissed. He grabbed the little dude and pulled him over the counter and started punching him. Derek slammed the big guy, who then dropped the little guy. At that point, the big dude’s partner gets Derek in a head lock. Meanwhile another manager and a cook from the kitchen jumped over the counter and started fighting with the big guy. The partner had Derek on his back and still in the headlock over by the Ronald McDonald statue. I walked over and grab the arm that was around Derek’s neck and move it so Derek could jump free.

Derek immediately punched the guy out. The big dude had taken out both the other manager and the cook. They scrambled away. Then the big guy started on Derek.

“This wasn’t your business man,” He shouted.

Derek called him a bully. The big guy rushed Derek. Derek kicked out, aiming for the guy’s face. He missed connecting hard with the dude’s left shoulder and hurt it bad.

The big guy’s face completely changed into a rage. He looked even bigger.

“I’m gonna fuckin? kill you!” He shouted.

I looked at Derek and could see fear spread over his features. He was in over his head. Suddenly I jumped in between the two men, both of which tower over 5′ 3″ 105 lb. me. I begin pushing the big guy in the chest, pushing him across the room into the wall.

“If you’re gonna kill him you gotta go through me. Fuck you mutherfucker,” I said over and over as I pushed.

The big guy stared down with look of shock.

“Take it easy little lady, I’m backin? down,” he said. At that point cops rushed through the door and put a nightstick up next to the big guy’s head.

I turned to the drop jawed chick at the counter and said, “We’ll take our food to go.”

The little manager came up and thanked us, saying we can have whatever we want, it’s on the house. We grabbed a big bag of McFood and left quickly, before the cops could question us.

At a time of great stress, my parents were both very sick, lots of things were going wrong. That night was one night of victory that we needed. I don’t think either of us thought twice about what we did. I think our youth and the fearlessness that is part of youth, had a lot to do with it.

I look back at the extreme situations I’ve been in, sometimes defending myself or my family or just reacting to what happened, sometimes with knife in hand. I’m thankful to still be here as fate or luck most likely had a lot to do with it. Like the time I caught two guys trying to steal my ’66 mustang. I didn’t think twice and ran right up to the car, opened the door, and yelled at that I was gonna kill them. They ran.

They, very easily, coulda pulled a gun and shot me. At that time there was 15-year-old kid who sold Uzis in our neighorhood. No, we didn’t buy one. So what’s the right thing to do? Jump in or not? I think every situation is different, but if I saw someone hurting a person more helpless than them, I’d still jump in and I hope all my years of bad experiences would help me react correctly.

I’m not as young, not as strong and certainly not as fast as I was 20 years ago. But lately, the only bullies I run into are fat, do rag wearing, ciger chomping, lane weaving RUBS on their Road Kings, who I have the misfortune to share the road with. And being a respectable home owner that no longer lives underground (where no one, not even the police could find me in the old days), there isn’t much I can do, unless of course a stray bolt off my bike hits them.

BTW, I have nothing against do rags or cigars, they are just part of the middle aged RUB uniform and was necessary to describe them.

Next week– Me, tense moments, and the cops.

I stare at this woman across the way
Bent over the pool table ready to play
With a glint of fire in her steel blue eyes
She scans the whole place making contact with guys

She zeros on me, the little prick tease
And the smile she flashes gets me weak in the knees
So I flash one right back, peering over my glasses
It’s a girl wants a girl and we’re both making passes

We both break our balls from parallel tables
A pool shark ,she’s beautiful, limber and able
She commands to the bartender “Give her a drink!”
Then she pounds in the nine ball and gives me a wink

Her skirt rides up high as she stretches mid table
On her black silky thong you can just see the label
As the bartender brings a drink ’round to my corner
Blondie yells out ” to Mac, don’t you even dare warn her!”

She just keeps on smiling and twisting her hips
Straddling her pool cue and licking her lips
So I do it too and the next thing you know
The two of us girl freaks put on quite a show

Someone filled up the juke box, the music is thumpin’
The next thing I know our bodies were bumpin’
She jumped on the table, coaxed me up there up too
The men, they were cheering, there were more than a few

That sexy bitch squeezed her thighs tight around mine
Then baby, oh baby, we started to grind
I could definitely tell she had done this before
But she wasn’t your average sluty bar whore

We dropped to our knees, started feeling around
She kissed my full lips to muffle my sounds
We moaned and we panted, I was ready to cum
Every guy in the joint wishing he could “GET SOME”

When who should pull up, sitting right outside
It’s my boyfriend, his Harley and he’s ready to ride
But we’re just getting started, we’re raring to play
Looks like one badass biker’s gettin’ lucky today

BIKERNET STEALTH REPORT FROM N.C.–When you deal with the public everyday in the motorcycle business you hear some funny stories, some dumb stories and everything in between. You also get asked some funny and some dumb questions from one end of the spectrum to the other. I thought I would share some of my favorite ones with you this week.

I had a guy who traded his Sportster for a Fatboy a few years back and the guy comes in complaining about not getting any gas mileage. He says “I could ride farther on my Sporster,” well i can’t believe this and he says he wants to buy some gas cap medallions. He grabs one and then says “He had better get one for that FALSE CAP,” and I say “What FALSE CAP,” and he says “That left cap, you can screw on it all day and it won’t come off!” I have him show where his bike is in the parking lot and proceed to unscrew the so called “FALSE CAP,” left hand threads, his eyes get as big as saucers and says “Wow, no wonder I wasn’t getting any gas mileage!” A true story!

The next one that comes to mind is this guys brings his Sporster in for service and the complaint is that the LEFT HAND BRAKE does not have any pressure. We very gently explain that the left handlever is the clutch, not the brake. How he made it to the shop is still a mystery to this day! Another true story!

When I ride my jockey shift rigid frame kick start only bike to work, that is when I really get the good ones. One guy who had tried to impress me with all of his knowledge after riding and owning a bike for all of two weeks walks out and looks at my bike and ask me “Where can I get one of those EMERGCENY BRAKE LEVERS for my bike?” Come to find out he was talking about my jockey shift stick! Still another true story!

This one has to do with my rigid framed bike again. I run an open BDL primary belt drive on the bike. We all know how belt drives will sing when engaged, well most of us know. This guy was standing in the parking lot when I pull up and the BDL is singing it’s tune and the guy runs over and says “Cut it off something is wrong, Do you hear that noise?” I looked at him and said “Sure I hear it, some change fell out of my pocket and fell down in the belt drive, nothing to worry about, it will work itself out!” The guy says “OH!” Still yet another true story!

I tell these stories not to humiliate anyone but to show the humorous side of the day to day business when you deal with bikes daily. I didn’t give names to protect the innocent or in this case the not so innocent. Everyone has to start somewhere to learn anything, just remember when you are new and learning, it is better to listen and learn before talking and letting everyone know you don’t know a whole lot.

So until next week, Let those belt drives sing!

OCC INVESTIGATION–Mother Fucker, with Sam’s Club selling one of OCC’s fine kit-bikes for only $137,000. How can a custom painter or fabricator survive? Or worse yet one of their custom kit-bikes for only $200,000? It’s not fucking fair. This means guys like you and me are gonna hafta buy our chopper parts at Kmart or maybe even Gemco… Is Gemco still around?

I heard Jay Leno just loves the fuck out of his Evo-powered Rough Superior those OCC guys put together in just a few hours.

Last week we received a report that Jay is suing them.

THE BIKERNET FAT ASSED STUDY–There is a new study out about married women and how they feel about their asses! The results of this study are pretty interesting:

a.. 85% of women think their ass is too big…
b.. 10% of women think their ass is too little…
c.. The other 5% say that they don’t care, they love him, he’s a good man, and they would have married him anyway.

BIKERNET CARIBBEAN REPORT–Man, I almost forgot, it’s time for the news again, but in between an overload of work and all the shit that goes on, I totally forgot about it. Almost.I’m heading over to NorCal for the CCI dealer show, but there are a few errands to take care of, and a few new things that have developed, so here we go.

Congratulations to Hank Young, winning his latest Discovery build off against Cole Foster; that one was a tuff one. Hank being a very good friend, and Cole building very sweet, clean bikes. The match-up took place in San Diego, so I guess it was anyone?s call. At the end of the night the trophy and ugliest chick went to Hank. Some say Cole was laughing his ass of while walking out with two porn stars….Such is life I guess….

Speaking of Hank, we have decided to go to Biketoberfest, but not as vendors, just to cruise around town and raise hell. I have a slight hunch that this will be a Biketoberfest to remember. Also we have been called to assist at a Dave Mann memorial. I guess the unveiling of OCC’s bike is taking place, you know how it is, but we will still head over. Dave deserves to be respected. News Flash, and since the cat is out of the bag, Puerto Rico bike weekend will host another Biker Build Off. Featuring none other than Arlen Ness against Roland Sands. It promises to be a cool ride and lots of fun. I am really looking forward to it, even if it’s for a couple minutes the audience will be able to take a glimpse of my stomping grounds. Again, I believe that the event is going to be bursting at the seams when everyone and their mothers head over just to see and be seen, more so with TV in the house.Maybe that’s a sign of my turn coming up….

The Horse “Horsetoberfest show” will take place at the Last Resort Bar, Saturday, during Biketoberfest, we will be there with our bikes, so come on by and say hi. It will be the coolest gathering of Old School bikes in Florida.

Speaking of the Horse, the new issue is on its way to the printers, check out Indian Larry’s memorials. Also there’s a lot of stuff brewing… Will keep on releasing info, as is proper.

I’m working on a couple more bikes which should be done in time for Rincon, I will keep you guys posted, besides I have to start building a bike for an event in June, so the whole build will be seen here and in The Horse magazine….

Well, I’m out of here, got a plane to catch, Frisco is waiting….Maybe I?ll see you there ….

IT’S A SHORT AND SWEET THIS WEEK–The big Custom Chrome Dealer Show happens this weekend.

I’m rolling over to the Queen Mary to have the 1928 Shovelhead shot for Jim’s Pin-Up Iron and Lace Calendars. That bastard better start.

drillbit and holes close

Since the news is short and the Monster Garage show airs next week let’s take a look at my Monster Garage Souvenir, the Don Hotop alignment tool. Don plasma cut this bastard out of about 1/16-inch mild steel sheet. Using a sheered straight edge he cut notches for the swingarm, axle plates and tranny shafts. He laid this across the rear wheel sprocket and the tranny sprocket to align the final drive. Worked like a champ.

I bagged the final version, after the show was complete, and brought it home to use on bike builds for ever more. As a tribute to Don and the show I asked a local trophy guy to engrave a brass plate to commemorate the designer and the show.

It’s just a little reminder of a terrific experience, a cool as hell custom, that I had my finger in, and the team that made it happen. I can’t tell you any more. You’ll just have to check the show on the Discovery channel Monday night.

Bangladeshi Battles $129,626 Bar TabNEW YORK (ANI)-A Bangladeshi man has filed a lawsuit against a Manhattan strip club after being presented with a $129,626 tab he allegedly ran up during a seven-hour spree.Tauhidul Chaudhury has refuted claims made by Scores Nightclub that he signed credit card receipts for “alcoholic beverages and other services.” The amount of his bill was enough to buy 72 $1,800 bottles of the Krug champagne sold by the club, or 6,800 lap dances, which would take over 23 days at five minutes a dance. In his suit Chaudhury alleged the staff “took advantage of his intoxicated state . . . knowing that he could not comprehend his surroundings.””Mr. Chaudhury cannot recall authorizing these charges, and if the credit card receipts do contain his signature he did not possess the requisite mental capacity to authorize these charges,” the suit also states.Chaudhury, who used four different credit cards to pay the bill, asked the court to award him the amount of the tab plus interest. All four credit card companies have refused to cancel the charges.”We’re used to heads of state, and this guy partied like a potentate,” said Scores spokesman Lonnie Hanover..Scores is facing an additional lawsuit brought by Mitchell Blaser, 53, who was billed a mere $28,021 for five bottles of champagne and lap dances.

JUDGE DRUNK IN COURT–NEW ORLEANS-The old saying “sober as a judge” did not apply to District Judge Monty L. Doggett, according to the Louisiana Supreme Court. Doggett was removed from the bench for being repeatedly drunk in court.

Doggett issued arrest warrants when he was too loaded to read them, and sometimes was so drunk that cases had to be postponed. He once got so drunk his staff had to clear the public from the hallway outside the courtroom so he could be carried out of his office by sheriff’s deputies – and this was before 10 a.m.Attorney Charles Whitehead Jr. testified that Doggett’s verdict in one case was to point at him and say, “You win!”

Mr. Whitehead, a recovering alcoholic, testified that he offered to take Doggett to Alcoholics Anonymous. Doggett never responded to his invitation.

In his defense, Doggett contended that he shouldn’t be removed because his behavior wasn’t willful. He also pointed out that since he was re-elected after his hard drinking was made public, his constituents didn’t care how much he drank. In the past Doggett has admitted he has been a heavy drinker for more than thirty years.

The high court justices (none of whom are elected) disagreed, saying a judge can be disciplined for violating the code of office “even if his constituency condones such behavior.”

TEXAS PHOTOGRAPHER SLAMS BIKERNET–Since the only thing on this site that seems to change, is the homepage image I do like the current image though. It’s “For Sale” you know? Here are a few images of one cutie from the LSR, see if any of her might interest you. I see you did add TBears story. Some of that content is past 3 weeks.

Are you going to want anything on the Lone Star Rally in Galveston? The “official” website says 250,000 attended still trying to get a count from island officials. Either way this was only the second year and it is totally free, no rally fees, except for the DPS and all the little town cops on I-45.

Any official word? Oh yea just for future reference part of the job that pays the bills requires writing technical specs for multi-million dollar bus procurements. Not exactly the same I understand. Just keep that in mind in the future…

Your package arrived Monday at Lucky Devil, Holly was giving Kent a hard time about looking like Lilo & Stitch the Hawaiian cartoon. Not that it matters, but we all 3 like the old logo better. Something about a girls with horns I guess. So if you have any XL shirts left let me know I still have not had to use the second one or change the first sticker I put on the bike, but both are showing their age.

THE BIKERNET CRAZYHORSE REPORT–I’m very proud and pleased to announce that Sata Spray Equipment will bedisplaying my gooseneck chopper in their booth at the NACE trade Show in LasVegas Nov. 4-6. NACE is the biggest trade show for Automotive Refinishersand Painters. They are also featuring my business- Crazy Horse Painting inthe next issue of the Sata News. I’m sure more than a few Bikernet Readerswill be attending the SEMA Trade Show which is happening the same week inVegas. Sata has booths at both shows and both will have posters featuringthe cover of my upcoming book, my Easyriders cover, and my new Sata ad.That’s right, I’m the new spokesperson for Sata! For many years theirproducts have been the industry standard in body shops all over the world, but lately they’ve been coming out with a series of guns that are very handyfor the custom painter. Their Mini-Jet, which is my favorite gun, wasrecently featured on Tru-Flame painter Mike Lavelle’s episode of Rides. Forthose customizers who didn’t see that show, yikes- you screwed up! That showkicked ass. Check out their products at www.satausa.com

ch - book

Well here it is, the cover of my book. I should be getting the proof versionof my book to look over very soon. I’ve been getting a big response to itand I only hope it lives up to all the expectations. If the firstprinting sells out, there will be a second book on custom painting, featuring How To’s that involve not just motorcycles, but hot rods, boats, trucks, and whatever odd projects I can pick up. I already have step by steppictures taken for several chapters. AND I have finally updated my website. My latest work is posted and there are plenty of new photos and news. I knowtimes are tough for many out there, but if you have a little set aside forthat custom paint job, check out my site, as I do many paint jobs that workwith your stock paint. You don’t have spend $3000 to make your bike standout. For $1200-1800 your stock Harley can have that custom look.

I’ve got a lot to do in the next 4 weeks. I’ve never been to Vegas before andhope to do a little riding with Allen Dewey. Allen worked on the firstDiscovery Biker Women Special and filmed at Sturgis this year. This time hefollowed Goth Girl, Sasha Mullins and DJ, a businesswoman with herown clothing line who puts on the kind of yearly road miles most men wouldbe proud to brag about. Allen filmed a bit on me and took a few still shotsthat will soon be seen in an upcoming issue of American Rider and maybe inthe new Devil Doll calendar. He tells me there’s some pretty scenic stuffoutside of Vegas, so I’ll try to get there a day early so we can do somedesert riding. I’m very proud of being in the 2005 Devil Doll calendar. Those women are the best of the best. I also shot one of the photos of GothGirl. The pics were taken at the Broken Spoke as the bad was playing. Thatgirl is just too photogenic.

I’m also hoping to launch a few Painting HowTo’s, one here on Bikernet and one in The Horse. I’m testing some new wildcolors put out By Auto Air. I spent all day Wednesday spraying their lateststuff. I can’t wait to try these colors on a custom bike. Too bad the wickedspringer bobber I’m getting ready to paint is going to be black with not sotypical flames. Can’t say what kind of flames yet, but I’m gonna save thatflame How To for Bikernet. Plus there are other articles in the works.

Wow, I’ve come a long way in the past few years. A crazy adventure from NCto Tahiti to Sturgis to the cover of Easyriders to books and now to Vegas. Iworked anonymously for many years and bang! Suddenly there’s all thissupport for my painting. I was working out in the shop last night. Ifinished around 10:30. Before I shut the lights off, I looked around at theready for clear parts sitting around. There are three projects nearly complete. They all involved flames yet all three are very different and all three are work Iam very proud of. They all looked killer. After 25 years of this, I’mexcited about the work I’ve been doing. But the best part is the people I’vemet. TBear, Goth Girl, stunt rider Sammy Morgan, Jose, Nyla, FabricatorKevin, Horse editor-Hammer, are just afew of the friends I’ve met in the past 3 years. Life is short and a lifewithout friends makes it feel shorter.

Soon enough it will be Thanksgivingand I’ll be home in CT with my family. I’ll sit around the kitchen tablewith my old friends from high school and toss back a few drinks and snackout on all the wonderful food that will be around. Paying the bills isgreat, butwithout friends, life would be empty, no matter how much success isattained. Too bad the OCC guys don’t know that.

STRANGERS ON MY FLIGHT

Strangers on my flight,
turbans they’re packin’.
Wonderin’ if they might,
plan a hijacking.
They could pull a stunt,
before this flight is through.

Something’s on their minds.
I saw them mutter.
What’s that in their hands?
Looks like box cutters,
I’m gonna kick some ass,
if they make a move.

Strangers on my flight.
Two smelly people,
and they’re not talking right;
and in a moment,
I will grab baseball bat;
and that will be that.
Swing like Joe DiMaggio,
and rip them both a new a-hole.

And if they pick a fight,
and try to screw us,
I’ll punch out their lights,
just like Joe Louis.
It would feel so right,
for strangers on my flight.

Ratta Tat Tat Tat,
Budda Bing Bang Boom,
Zooma Zooma Zoom.

Send those bastards to the moon….

SCOTT JACOBS HAS AFFAIR WITH MARILYN MONROE–Marilyn Monroe conjures up a variety of images to many people but the common thread is that she is an American icon.

“Marilyn Merlot” is a collector’s dream: combining wine along with classic depictions of Marilyn on the label. Only one Marilyn Merlot is released per year and if you had all of the previous issues (ten total) the current value is about $8000.00. Photo-realist painter Scott Jacobs, of Harley-Davison fame, has embarked on a project to render this incredible collection of wines with a brush on canvas. Since Scott personally owns the entire collection of Marilyn Merlot bottles one might surmise that a series is in the works.

The first painting of the series, “Roses or Red”, will be available in a canvas giclee and limited to only 50 pieces plus a few artist proofs. The Jacobs’ MARILYN series is a sure bet to sell out quickly and become one of the important contemporary collections of our day. Call or email for more information or to place your reservation.

BIKERNET NEWS FLASH – DAVE MANN MEMORIAL, BIKETOBERFEST EXTENDED AND BROS CLUB COMPARISON

Final Warning to watch Monster Garage on Monday, October 11th (next Monday, goddamnit), at 9:00 p.m. There’s a reason that I’m asking you to watch it. It’s a bike build in five days with me and a bunch of guys I know as the team. I want reports from as many viewers as possible since I’ll be hiding under the set during the showing. Makes me nervous.

EXPANDED BIKETOBERFEST ONLY APPLIES TO SALES–DAYTONA BEACH — A few local residents pushing to extend Biketoberfest another six days to help repair the hurricane-battered economy were partially victorious Wednesday night.

Daytona Beach businesses citywide that already have retail licenses can now apply for permits to sell their wares outside for the six days before the Oct. 21 start of Biketoberfest, a majority of city commissioners decided.

“We didn’t get the whole pie, but we got a slice,” said Frank Heckman, chairman of the 1,200-member Beachside Neighborhood Watch.

Heckman and others had hoped all Biketoberfest activities could be expanded from Oct. 21-24 to Oct. 15-24.

“With two back-to-back hurricanes, the devastation has been on both sides of the river,” Heckman told commissioners. “I’ve seen many businesses that have had major disruptions. Many were without power, and their employees have been out of work for several weeks.”

The commission decision won’t expand any other aspects of Biketoberfest. Out-of-town vendors can’t start selling anything before Oct. 21, and other features of the fall motorcycle festival, such as bands playing outside, can’t be extended either, commissioners decided.

“I don’t believe this would be what people imagine it to be,” Guest said.

But two commissioners, Darlene Yordon and Gwen Azama-Edwards, still opposed the idea and voted against it in the 5-2 vote.

talking about doubling an event that generates noise and confusion.”

Commissioner Rick Shiver said he was originally opposed to any expansion of Biketoberfest activities. Then he started talking to people who are out of work because of the two recent hurricanes.

Bros Club

BROS CLUB INSURANCE PROGRAM–What makes BROS Club’s Biker Insurance program different than other programs such as Geico, Progressive or Daryland?

Price is one consideration, BROS Club will beat the others in about 73% of the cases. On top of that, they offer an option the others stumble over, “The Full Value Endorsement”. For riders with custom paint and accessories, this is a valuable point of difference.

Perhaps the most valuable aspect of the BROS Club insurance program is the fact that Motorcycles are their specialty. When claims happen, as they sometimes do, ask yourself one question, would you rather have a motorcycle specialist helping you to resolve your claim, or some auto or fire insurance claims adjuster… For an instant (no obligation) motorcycle insurance quote, click here and follow the link to insurance: www.brosclub.org

By the way, have you heard about the Emergency Roadside Assistance plan offered through BROS Club? The cost is $68.00 for a TWO YEAR membership. ANY motorcycle, ANY year, ANY make or model and this includes bikes with side cars and even trikes. BROS Club’s Motor Club is promoted by many custom bike builders and dealerships across the USA and Canada.

BIKERNET NEWS FINAL STORIES–CARIBBEAN REPORT, PAINTER’S BUILD-OFF REPORT,NEW B.A.D.D. ORGANIZATION, STURGIS REPORT ARE IT, FLORIDA FLOOD REPORTS AND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BUILDER COMPETITION

Continued From Page 3

jospichlow

BIKERNET CARIBBEAN REPORT–As I sit here, well past midnight, trying to figure out what the hell I am going to write about? I’ll let you know a couple things, there’s a turmoil of “things” going on, I know, nothing new, but without going into full news reporting, here’s the scoop.

Hank Young and Cole Foster are heading down to San Diego from Monterey with the Discovery cameras following closely, if anyone is close to that area, go check the bikes out. Speaking of Discovery, we found out that Arlen Ness is going against Roland Sands; I’ll let the cat out of the bag on this one, riding and finishing, in none other than Puerto Rico. Yes, voting will take place at our event, Puerto Rico Bike weekend, in Rincon. Rock on guys!

Again, it’s not that I am blurting the whole thing out, since you all know that gossip runs and spreads faster than lit gunpowder.I just want to take a moment to remember a good friend who passed away a month (to the date) ago. Larry, you are still with us. I would also take the liberty to ask our readers to log in their site www.IndianLarry.com get the shirts, get whatever you want, those guys have to keep on rolling, and want to keep Larry’s work strong.

I really don’t think I will be reaching the normal rant level today, maybe since we have been busy as hell. Our master mechanic is in the hospital getting a hip transplant and the bikes to be done for Rincon don’t even fit at the shop anymore…. So what do I do when the shit is hitting the fan? Grab my 60 Pan and try to finish it, little details, but the only way you find the “need” to work is by doing stuff you enjoy. Not because it’s my bike, just because it’s what I like doing.

So what do I like? I like working on older bikes, doing cool stuff out of old beat up bikes, just to beat them up again. I hate fixing other people’s mistakes, which end up, at my shop. I really don’t like working with frames or whatever else that I don’t like….I guess it all sums up that I don’t do stuff that I don’t feel like, and I am way over fixing bikes…..But we have to pay bills, and customers waiting…So we do it.

wichlow

Before I go over to full on rant mode, Happy Birthday to Wicho, send the gifts to me, more so if they are monetary. The Chopper Freak short sleeve shirts are still on sale for $20.00 with shipping, send us an e-mail or call the shop 787-277-0633, make sure to say you saw it at Bikernet. We are cleaning up the old shop and have box after box of take off parts. I will (whenever I can) get a list of all these parts, also we are going to clean up the new shop, there’s a lot of stuff that needs to be replaced with newer stock, so I might have what you need at a good deal.

You know, last Saturday we got a bunch of the old bikes out from the shop, I am in an industrial area, so a Saturday is kinda quiet all around, and that translates to one thing, Mayhem time! Even though we did not take off on a road trip, the burnouts, or maybe chirping of tires, some friends trying to get the hang of a suicide clutch, and the same shenanigans as always happen to be a way to loose tension and just get the mind out of the normal shit. I can’t say it enough times, all these old bikes, bobs, chops, etc are the coolest bikes to have, not only because they are cool, but more important because they are so much fun. From kicking them, to laughing like asses when a buddy stalled the pan, that is what this whole deal is about, not money, not fame, not magazines, it’s the time you spend with friends, the short rides, or even helping out a friend that busted up his clutch. I guess people has the wrong idea about this, what we call……what the fuck do we call it?

vegasday3 (5)

It’s not about the flashiest, fastest, more billet, widest tire, hottest chick (well the hottest chick scores plenty points) it’s just about being silly, it’s just going back to what you did before, money or no money, TV or no TV, this is not about money, it?s about creating and being comfortable enough so you don’t have to worry about bills. Why? So you can go, fuck around and have fun. That’s why.

See you next week.

OFFICIAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF BIKE BUILDING COUNTDOWN– THE Official World Championship of Custom Bike Building looks set to justify its name with strong contenders entered from Europe and America. The event is scheduled to take place at Custom Chrome’s Dealer Show, to be held at Morgan Hill, California, October 8th to 10th.

At the time of writing, there are well-known names among the entries for the OEM class and other talented builders seeking the award for the top HR3 kit bike.Understandably, the Freestyle class has attracted the greatest number of entrants in search of the $25,000 top prize and accolade of being World Champion Custom Bike Builder. From across the Atlantic, bikes from some of the best of the builders from Europe are set to face off against some of the top names from the US.

Judging will include names from the music and custom building scenes as well as representatives from BIKERNET.COM, Iron Works, V-Twin, Cycle World and Hot Rod Bike magazines.Without doubt, the panel faces an extremely difficult task in trying to grade the efforts of so many acknowledged masters of their craft.

The entry forms disclose no more than hints as to what we might expect to see.Declared details indicate builders have relied heavily on aftermarket engines with 80cuin the smallest displacement. The oldest bike appears to be a 1937 Knucklehead but later models predominate.Intriguingly, there are transmissions with three-, four-, five- and six-speeds.

What is the winning formula? We’ll see next week.

BIKERNET BARROOM ETHICS–A completely inebriated man walked into a bar and, after staring forsome time at the only woman seated at the bar, walked over to her, placed his hand up her skirt and began fondling her.

She jumped up and slapped him silly.

He immediately apologized andexplained, “I’m sorry. I thought you were my wife. You look exactlylike her.”

“Why you drunken, worthless, insufferable asshole!” she screamed.

Funny,” he muttered, “you even sound exactly like her.”

S&S NAMES GARY LARSON DIRECTOR OF LOGISTICS– At the official ?Revving Cutting? Ceremony for S&S?s La Crosse facility, S&S President, Brett Smith, announced Gary Larson?s promotion to Director of Logistics. As the newest member of the S&S senior management team and one of three directors, Gary will now report directly to the President.

?Gary has added an element of professionalism and knowledge to our team from the first day he started here as Purchasing Manager, working for VP-Manufacturing, Mike Alexander,? said Brett. ?I knew it was only a matter of time before Gary worked his way up the organization. The advent of an entirely new facility enabled him to shine and take on much greater responsibility. He did that by overseeing our expansion to La Crosse. I really didn?t have to worry about it at all with him in charge.?

?I had a great team of people to work with during this move, especially Pete Marasovich, who was also given more responsibility today as my new Distribution Manager. So far working at S&S has been very exciting for me and I know I made the right choice to come and join this team. I am looking forward to all the developments that will take place at this facility over the next several months.? said Gary.

BUBBA HITS A LIVE RADIO HOME RUN– T. Bubba Bechtol, part time City Councilman from Pensacola, Florida, was asked on a local live radio talk show the other day just what he thought of the allegations of torture of the Iraqi prisoners. His reply prompted his ejection from the studio, but to thunderous applause from the audience.

“If hooking up an Iraqi prisoner’s scrotum to a car’s battery cables will save one American GI’s life, then I have just two things to say:

“Red is positive”

“Black is negative.”

BIKERNET REPORTER EMBEDDED IN FLORIDA WEATHER–We made it through the hurricane safely and no one hurt though the house did take a beating. We did everything we could to prepare and did very well considering she came right at us.

Had the garage door secured and reinforced but it came straight at it and tried to rip it down. Pat and I spent the last 2 hours of the storm reinforcing the door. Shit the bikes and tool were in there. Some roof damage, electrical and appliances. It is coming together and we are repairing a little every day.

Yeah, it hurt us but when I see what it did to others, I am thankful.

I will be in touch as more time allows. Today is the first time I could get on line. Using lap top and phone as Road Runner is out and desk top also took a hit.

” Jim Bortles latest creation. Not a BikerBuilder-Off bike, but we love it anyway. Flames by Crazy Horse.”

BIKERNET CRAZYHORSE PAINT REPORT–I’m writing this on Wednesday. Today the builders for an upcoming BikerBuild off Show are riding their creations up to Memphis from Alabama. EricGorges of Voodoo Choppers is competeing against Cory Ness. My husband Jimis traveling along and calling me daily with updates. Wed was his first dayon the road with them. As for the bikes he said Cory’s bike is prettyradical, a departure from the usual Ness style. He says Cory’s choice ofmotor will blow people’s minds. I asked him about Voodoo’s creation.

“It’sfrickin’ wild, just wild.”

There’s something uniquely wonderful about traveling with a group of custombuilt bikes. When I rode with a pack of choppers in Sturgis, it was likegoing back in time. There’s about 15 bikes traveling in the group and a fewvery small gas tanks.

“It feels like we’re stopping every 35 miles,” Jim reported. But Jimis having a good time and that’s what it is all about. I know he’ll have agood time tonight. How can you not have fun in Memphis? Unless of course seventornados strike the city at once. I can see these guys on Beale St, justtearing it up. I can’t wait for my next update.

Thursday morning, I again heard from Jimmy as they traveled across Arkansas. The group was pretty beat from a day on the road. The most severe problemwas that the Memphis Marriot did not have ice machines. Instead there arefridges in the rooms. Maybe there were ice machines but the guys could notfind them. Jimmy told me of waking up to a spectacular view of theMississippi River. Unfortunately he did take a picture as he forgot tochange the disc in the camera.

“You change it?” he asked. He’s going to try to findthe bag of discs I gave him but will also buy a disposable camera at thenext stop. So one way or another, we will bring all the loyal readers ofBikernet, photos from the latest Biker Build-Off.

BIKERS AGAINST DANGEROUS DRIVERS (B.A.D.D. Inc.)– Chapters are already forming in Canada, the U.S. and Australia.I guess it was a brainstorm of an idea that was started in a group that I belong to when too many times it was posted that a motorcycle rider was seriously hurt or killed by an automobile. Then we hear later that the laws are so lax in their penalties for a death or injury of a biker. I know this first hand, because 2 years ago, two of my best friends were on their way home. A truck pulled into their lane, attempting a left hand turn, and hit them head on, killing them. The person who did this got the maximum penalty in N.Y., which was a $100 fine and 15 days in jail. He was even driving with a restricted license and should not have even been there. He killed two people.

I am sure that most everyone knows of a similar accident.

Well, since then I have been advocating for biker rights. When Angie Arcand(Founder of B.A.D.D. Inc.) started B.A.D.D. Inc. I thought, wow, this is a great idea and I am sure that you will too. We hope to go far in the movement for stiffer penalties in Yield the Right of Way Accidents. Our focus is broader to help protect motorcycle riders on the road from any dangerous driver of an automobile.

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST NEIL STEINBERG LABELS MOTORCYCLISTS AS ORGAN DONORS– If you believe Chicago Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg, motorcycle riders are pretty sure bets to become organ donors simply because they ride motorcycles.

What’s worse, Steinberg thinks it’s a joke.

In a column with the headline “Hop on a motorcycle, fill out your donor card,” that appeared in the September 22 issue of the Chicago Sun-Times, Steinberg wrote: “Why are there many more heart transplants performed in the summer than in the winter?

Outraged, AMA Public Information Director Tom Lindsay dashed off a quick e-mail to Steinberg to set him straight.

“Speaking on behalf of this nation’s seven million motorcyclists, we found your characterization of motorcyclists-as-organ-donors insulting and ill-informed. Perhaps your intent was dark humor or tongue-in-cheek commentary — but comments like yours are irresponsible and promote a malicious and unjustified bias against motorcyclists.”

Steinberg’s response: “Thank you for your comment. There will be no retraction.”If you would like to let Chicago Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg know how you feel about his column, you may e-mail him atnsteinberg@suntimes.com .

FYI- The chance of you dying in an automobile accident is 1 in 247, yet for motorcycles its 1 in 1214. These are published US government statistics but judging from your prose you’re too ignorant to find the data, let alone digest it.

205 MPH SPEEDING TICKET– That’s right, a kid got popped for allegedly riding his motorcycle at 205 mph. Ever since a State Patrol pilot clocked Samuel Armstrong Tilley’s 2002 Honda RC51 going a quarter-mile in 4.39 seconds on September 18, people in chat rooms, garages and biker bars from Sturgis, South Dakota, to Los Angeles have been buzzing about the alleged feat on Highway 61 near Wabasha.

“Certainly anyone who flouts the law to that extent is seen by some as a latter-day Robin Hood, flying in the face of authority and doing stuff we all want to do but common sense stops us from,” said David Edwards, editor-in-chief of Cycle World, a magazine based in Newport Beach, California.

Edwards doubted Tilley’s bike could have gone so fast. “More likely, the cop with the stopwatch had an itchy trigger finger,” he told the Star Tribune of Minneapolis.

RICH KING BATTLES TO SECOND-PLACE FINISH AT DU QUOIN MILE–Screamin? Eagle Team on the Podium in AMA Grand National Season Finale.

DU QUOIN, Ill. (Sept. 25, 2004) ? Screamin’ Eagle Performance Parts rider Rich King prevailed in a race-long battle for second position in the AMA Grand National main held at the mile track at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. It was the 17th and final event on the 2004 AMA Progressive Insurance Flat Track Championship. King was among seven riders who held second place during the 25-lap race, all trailing Gerencer Harley-Davidson?s/Kerstings Cycle/Saddlemen rider Kevin Atherton, who took the lead on lap two and then cruised to an easy victory?his first of the season.

?What a thrilling way to end the season,? said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Anne Paluso. ?Even though Atherton took the lead early, we saw a classic mile battle for second place among some of the top racers in this series. Rich did what he does best and put the Screamin? Eagle team on the podium one more time this season.?

Quality Checked Pre-Owned Ford/Lancaster Harley-Davidson rider Chris Carr finished third on the Du Quoin Mile. Carr wrapped up a season by claiming his sixth Grand National title on Friday night, when he qualified for the indoor short-track race at Du Quoin. He finished the season with 298 points?38 points clear of KTM USA/Jones Powersports/Mid-America Harley-Davidson rider Joe Kopp. Carr won six races during the 2004 AMA Progressive Insurance Flat Track Championship season.

King started the afternoon with a strong qualifying run, placing second in the first heat behind Atherton, who was already showing the speed that would allow him to dominate at Du Quoin.

At the start of the Grand National main, Kopp led the first lap before Atherton passed for the lead. Atherton went on to build a cushion that, at one point, extended to more than half a straight-away. Meanwhile, King was dicing in a pack that included Kopp and his KTM USA/Jones Powersports/Mid-America Harley-Davidson teammate Kenny Coolbeth, Carr, Coziahr Harley-Davidson/National Cycle rider Johnny Murphree, and Bartels? Harley-Davidson/Corbin rider Jay Springsteen. The riders in the pack gained and lost positions on each lap. King ran as high as second position and dropped back as far as eighth before settling into second on lap 18. King dropped back to third when he was passed by Murphree on lap 22, and then to fourth when Carr got by on lap 23. But the Screamin? Eagle rider pushed his Harley-Davidson XR750 past Carr on lap 24, and played the draft perfectly to come across the finish line second. Murphree was shuffled back to fifth place behind Carr and Springsteen on the last lap.

Second place on the Du Quoin mile earned King 19 points and moved him up to twelfth in final season points. King?s other two podium results included a win in the spring race at the Springfield Mile in Springfield, Ill., and a third at Farley Speedway in Farley, Iowa.

The Screamin’ Eagle Flat Track team is sponsored by Matco Tools.

BIKERNET FARMING ADVICE–An old farmer owned a large farm with a nice pond in the back forty. It was fixed up nice: picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple and peach trees.

One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn’t been there for a while, and look it over. He grabbed a five gallon bucket to bring back some fruit.

As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond.

He made some noise so the women would be aware of his presence, and they all went to the deep end of the pond.

One of the women shouted to him, “We’re not coming out until you leave!”

The old man frowned, “I didn’t come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked.”

Holding the bucket up he said, I’m here to feed the alligator.”

BIKERNET STEALTH REPORT FROM NORTH CAROLINA–Not a lot to report on this week. It has been kinda slow and quiet. I guess I will just mention a few things that come to mind.

Last weekend was the national open house for Harley-Davidson. To sum it up, more of the same thing. The really strange part is that two of their paint colors are called “Chopper Blue” and “Chopper Pearl Blue.” I don’t get it, but I guess they are trying some way to cash in on the chopper craze?

It is hard to believe summer is over. It seems the older you get the faster time passes by. There is still some good riding weather left to ride around here, but you know inside the cold is coming. With that though comes the winter projects so it is not all gloom and doom.

I’ve ridden for the past week. That’s the best news. No back pain after the surgery. Not being able to ride for 7-1/2 weeks makes me apppreciate my ability to ride in a whole new light.

The A.H.D.R.A drag races come to Rockingham October 9th and 10th. I plan on making the ride to the races. It is always a good time. There is also a swap meet the same weekend in Salisbury, NC, the same site as the Smoke-Out.

I will close out with this, “Remember life is fragile and precious” and that “All men die, yet very few really live!” So go out and live like it’s your last day!

Until next week!

INDIAN LARRY MEMORIAL–I’ve received a number of e-mails asking about Indian Larry. The news travels slow in some parts, so here’s Rogue’s tribute to the man for all who missed the sad news.–Bandit

I know you have all heard the name Indian Larry. You have read about him and seen him on TV. You have seen him on the Discovery Channel and Biker Build-Offs around the country. Some of you even had the opportunity to meet him. By now you know that he died doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle while at the Liquid Steel Show Bike Show in Charlotte North Carolina.

Larry was performing his famous Iron Cross demonstration for a crowd estimated to be over 8,000 where he stands on the seat of his motorcycle and rides it while his arms are outstretched. For some reason the bike slowed and acted erratic throwing him to the ground. He was airlifted to the hospital but never regained consciousness.

A Memorial Service was held for him at his shop located at 151 N. 14th Street in Brooklyn New York on September 19, 2004. The streets surrounding the shop for 3 blocks in any direction were full of motorcycles and people that came to pay their respects. This included many well known motorcycle people in the industry from all over the country, people that knew him personally, clubs, organizations, those that knew about him and even some of the motorcycle squad from the New York Police Department. The turn out was tremendous and rightfully so.

Many people had private ceremonys prior and after the official one. Larry left us way to soon, but he did leave his mark on all of us in one way or another. Good News is that the Shop Will Continue to Stay Open and keep his memory alive

Tattooed on Larry’s throat was IN GOD WE TRUST, VENGENCE IS MINE SAYETH THE LORD. NO FEAR

Long will we remember this man !
