Hey,
I need some input. Sin Wu keeps complaining about my non-stop reflections on the industry and the projects in our lives. “It’s too harried,” she stammered while I tried to talk her out of her clothes. “You’ve got too much going. You need to relax.”
Sure we have a project or 15 and a deadline or several, but I’m kicking back. It’s the nature of our lives and the industry. At least I sense a constant buzz. There’s more events, action, bikes, products, and dealers than ever before. How the hell can anyone keep up? Whatta you tink? Drop me a line: Bandit@bikernet.com. I know, you don’t have time.
Let’s hit the news:
- “I need for you to find out what Dar Holdsworth at Brass Balls Bobbers is doing with the Wounded Warrior Project and the company’s RAD tattoo motorbike on eBay,” barked Bandit.
“Ok, Ok, and a good morning to you, I said.”
You see, Bandit loves all things Bobber and he loves that one-of-a-kind Tattoo Bobber with the killer Indian engine. It was built on Speed’s V-Twin TV show and he is excited that it is coming available on eBay today.
I scooted over to www.brassballsbobbers.com and dialed 405.285.0808. While the phone was ringing I notice that on their website the baseline custom bobber starts at just $16,995, not bad!
Anyway, I got a hold of Dar, Master Motorcycle Designer and Brass Balls Bobbers Head Honcho, and he explained that the tattoo bike is a one-off custom bobber motorcycle that he and partner Sam Wills designed. “It’s low, fast and completely sano. It’s got everything you need and absolutely nothing that you don’t.” (I pulled together the details here.)
So I pressed him, “There’s a rumor that you are selling it?”
“Well, it wins awards wherever it goes and is our flagship bobber at Brass Balls Bobbers. We have over $55,000 in this baby and anything north of $35,000 would make us happy.
Damned, this is one special motorbike and a guy just might be able to get a steal of a deal. Dar went on to explain that a portion of the proceeds goes to the Wounded Warrior Project. In addition, the auction starts on October 10 and interested bikers should check www.brassballsbobbers.com for the eBay link.
BIKERNET FAMILY COUNSELING– “An extraordinarily handsome man decided he had theresponsibility to marry the perfect woman so they could produce beautiful children beyond compare.
With that as his mission he began to search for the perfect woman.
Shortly there after he met a man who had three stunning, gorgeous daughters that positively took his breath away. So he explained his mission to the man and asked for permission to marry one of them.
The man simply replied, “They’re lookin’ to get married,so you came to the right place. Look ’em over and pick the one you want.”
The man dated the first daughter. The next day the father asked for the man’s opinion.
“Well,” said the man, “she’s just a weeeeee bit, not that you can hardly notice…pigeon-toed.”
The father nodded and suggested the man date one of the other girls; so the man went out with the second daughter.
The next day, the father again asked how things went.
“Well,” the man replied, “she’s just a weeeee bit, not that you can hardly tell…cross-eyed.”
The father nodded and suggested he date the third girlto see if things might be better So he did.
The next morning the man rushed in exclaiming,
“She’s perfect, just perfect. She’s the one I want to marry.”
So they were wed right away. Months later the baby was born. When the man visited the nursery he was horrified: the baby was the Ugliest, most pathetic human you can imagine. He rushed to his father-in-law and asked how such a thing could happen considering the beauty of the parents.
“Well,” explained the father-in-law… “She was just a weeeee bit, not that you could hardly tell… pregnant when you met her.”

ADVANCED CUSTOM MOTORCYCLE ASSEMBLY AND FABRICATION BY WOLFGANG PUBLISHING–What started in the mid-’90s when a few people decided to build “stock Softails” from aftermarket parts – because they couldn’t buy one at the dealer – has evolved into a full blown industry. Today, every small town has a Chopper or Custom bike shop and every cable TV channel has a Biker-Build-Off series. No longer content to build copies of stock motorcycles, today’s builder wants a motorcycle that’s longer, lower and sexier than anything approved by a factory design team.
Wolfgang Publications and Timothy Remus were there at the very beginning of the trend with their Ultimate V-Twin Motorcycle book. Today they’re back with their new book, Advanced Custom Motorcycle Assembly & Fabrication. Part catalog, part service manual and part inspiration, this new book offers help with Planning the project, getting the right look and actually assembling that custom bike you’ve dreamed about for years.
Three start-to-finish sequences show not just how the best bikes are bolted together, but how the unique one-off gas tanks are shaped and then covered with candy brandywine paint. With 144 pages and over 400 color photos, this book from Wolfgang Publications and Tim Remus offers the help you need to build your very own custom motorcycle. ISBN: 1-929133-23-5 (with this number you can order at any bookstore)$24.95.

FIFTH ANNUAL CHOPPER’S ART SHOW TO BENEFIT DENVER BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB, TAKING PLACE AT THE CAPSULE IN DENVER, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20TH–Denver, COLO- September 20, 2007 – Denver 81 announced today their fifth annual Chopper’s Art Show to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver, will take place Saturday, October 20 at a new location, the Capsule Art and Event Center, located at 560 Santa Fe Drive in Denver, Colorado. This year will focus on how tattoo design, rock-n-roll art, hot rods and motorcycle lifestyle art all influence and play off each other.
The show will feature several artists and motorcycle builders, free parking and a reception party with Alan Forbes and other guest artists, including a signing by Forbes at 8:30 pm. The Capsule will have several bikes from Pistol Pete of Front Range Choppers on display, as well as bikes by Billy Lane and Albright Bikes, and will feature an art auction with pieces from a number of different mediums.
Motorcycle lifestyle photography, art from local tattoo artists, hot rod art and album covers are some of the mediums that will be presented. Several photographs from local and national artists such as Michael Lichter, Steve Temple and Curt Lout, are being donated and will available for purchase by auction, with all of the profits benefiting The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver.
In addition to the art on display, live pin-striping demonstrations by Joe “Brox” will take place throughout the day. There will also be original art on display that will not be available for purchase from private collections from artists like Timothy White, Joe Richardson and Von Dutch.
“The theme of this year is how rock album art relates to tattoos and how that relates back to motorcycle design. There’s been an evolution with hot rods, rock and roll, tattoos and motorcycles to where they are all intertwined artistically. Everyone will enjoy seeing how the bikes compliment the art and vice versa,” said event coordinator, Nik.
The Fifth Annual Choppers Art Show will take place one day only, Saturday, Oct. 20. The gallery hours will be Saturday from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Suggested donation to the exhibit is $10.

For these & other fine products contact: THREAT TO OUR FREEDOM–NTSB bulletin encouraging people to write to their state legislators to encourage helmet laws. Please take this threat very serious! It appears NHTSA has found someone to lobby for them! For an organization that has only investigated 6 motorcycle crashes they sure are using these stretched stats to make these outrageous claims! We all know that wearing a helmet does not mean that a person survives a 60 mph crash! How about if all car drivers wear a helmet as well since the majority of those killed in car crashes die from head trauma? If they make everyone wear a helmet then inattentive drivers don’t have to pay attention right???? A government agency that runs on my tax dollars has no business lobbying to change my state law! Please write to your state legislators and let them know that may get false statistics thrown at them pushing for helmet laws and that you are against both a mandatory helmet law and government agencies being allowed to lobby for law changes. They should only be able to speak on behalf of their expertise which in this case the NTSB does not have in this arena Vicki Roberts-Sanfelipo, RN/EMT 2 into 2 JUG HUGGERS– Jug Huggers are performance pipes that have the right mix of air flow and back pressure to make for increased performance and incredible sound. The oversized removable heat shield gives the Jug Huggers a 2 1/2″ fat look. Max-Flow performance baffles and chrome billet aluminum end caps are standard. Optional stealth baffles or torque chambers give you the option of getting the right performance from your motorcycle. Save $80! MRF CALL TO ACTION–For the past several weeks the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) has beenactively working on a multi-tiered strategic initiative to counter theNational Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) program to pressure statesinto enacting mandatory helmet laws. We are prepared today to launch theprogram beginning with a Call to Action to our State Motorcycle RightsOrganizations (SMROs). The MRF’s Call to Action is to encourage our SMRO partners to send theirtop lobbying teams to Washington D.C. in late October and early Novemberto visit with their members of Congress to voice opposition to the NTSB’slobbying efforts. It is our position that the NTSB is proposing todirectly lobby the states with federal tax money based on poorly-drawnconclusions, using a very narrow scope, and not employing the rigors ofresearch to which they normally hold themselves. This is simply notacceptable to the MRF and our SMRO partners. A clear message was sent bythe Senate in the 109th Congress when they voted 69-28 to defeat theLautenberg Federal Helmet amendment, which would have pressured statesinto passing mandatory helmet laws, based on the fact that this issue isclearly a State’s rights issue. Accordingly, we will be asking members ofCongress to write a letter to the NTSB reminding them of this fact. During these SMRO visits we will also be presenting a bullet pointstatistical fact sheet developed in conjunction with the MRF Legislative,Motorcycle Safety, and Statistics Committees that clearly shows that theanswer to motorcycle safety and reducing fatalities is, in fact, anaggressive approach toward CRASH AVOIDANCE and NOT safer crashing. Inaddition, we will be educating members of Congress on the many pointscontained in our Motorcycle Safety Action Plan, pointing out to them thatstates with the highest reductions in motorcycle fatalities and stateswith low fatality rates per registered motorcycle are not those withmandatory helmet laws, but rather states that utilize the many tools inthe motorcycle safety action plan. Additionally, we will thank many ofthem for their belief in motorcycle safety shown by the creation of the2010 motorcycle safety grants and the creation of the Motorcycle AdvisoryCouncil in TEA-LU. We will take advantage of this time to inform them asto how these programs are being used effectively. The second phase of the MRF’s strategic initiative involves the MRFholding a press conference in the first week of November in one of theoffice buildings of the United States House of Representatives inWashington, DC. The press conference will feature a prominent member ofCongress. Expect another Call to Action encouraging our members, our SMROpartners, motorcyclists in general and other concerned citizens to attend. At that time we will be issuing a formal letter to the Chairman of theNTSB asking him to reconsider their proposed lobbying of the states andasking that he consider the statistical facts related to our MotorcycleSafety Action Plan and its effectiveness with regard to Crash Avoidanceand NOT Safer Crashing as the goal. For strategic reasons, third phase of our initiative will be announcedonce we complete the necessary research and sufficient discussions havetaken place. We will go on record, however, as stating that we will notrule out asking Congress to take action against the NTSB, as we have donewith NHTSA in the past, should they continue to ignore the spirit ofprevious congressional mandates against federal agencies lobbying stateson mandatory helmet laws. Please contact Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Relations of theMotorcycle Riders Foundation, at 202-546-0983 in our Washington D.C.Office to schedule your appointments. CUSTOM CYCLE ENGINEERING FLT/FXR SWING ARM RETROFIT KIT–Custom Cycle Engineering has developed a swing arm conversion kit that replaces the stock Cleve Bloc style swing arm bushings with spherical bearings. The conversion covers all the FLT and FXR models from 1980 to 2001. The swing arm conversion kit coincides with Harley-Davidson’s change from the Cleve Bloc bushing to a spherical bearing in all the 2002 and up FLT models. The conversion over to spherical bearings in the early models dramatically changes the handling and tracking of all the FLT’s and FXR’s. The sticksion at the swing arm pivot is greatly reduced with the new spherical bearings. This allows for the swing arm to react quicker to any harsh road conditions keeping the wheel in contact with the road. The use of spherical bearings also helps negate any lateral and torsional movement in the swing arm by the shear dynamics of a spherical bearing. The swing arm bearing conversion kit is a positive answer to the inherent ill handling problems of the popular Dresser models. Note:Along with the installation of the Swing Arm Conversion Kit, Custom Cycle Engineering recommends the replacement of the old Rubber Mount Isolators with new replacements (P/N 47564-86 B). WORLD’S FASTEST PANHEAD RUNS D&D PERFORMANCE EXHAUST–Fort Worth, TX – October 2, 2007 – D&D Performance Enterprises designed a land speed racing (LSR) exhaust system for Bikernet.com’s 5-Ball Racing Team, who set a new world record on their Panhead with famed drag racer Valerie Thompson at the controls.
The team ran a two-pass average of 156.171 mph and took an AMA World Land Speed Record (#50 in the 2000 APS PF class) with the Assalt Weapan, on a 120-inch rigid Panhead.
The design of the exhaust system was made by the Pope of Pipe and D&D President, Dave Rash. The stepped pipe system started out at 1 7/8-inch pipe for 14 inches and then stepped up to 2-inches in diameter until each pipe was exactly 35 inches long. The pipes then slipped into a collector and were attach to a slip-on megaphone.
“This LSR system has been tested to deliver maximum HP at 6,500 to 6,800 rpms,” explained Rash. “We’ve discovered that these race-based 2-into-1 performance pipes generate 20 more horses than single exhausts.”
The design of the land speed racing pipe was integral to the performance of the Accurate Engineering Panhead high performance engine. It provided the most efficient way to extract expended gases out of the combustion chamber for a top speed of 162 mph on very slippery salt surface.
“It’s a pleasure to work with Dave Rash because he constantly studies how to dig performance out of racing and street engines with his exhaust pipe designs,” said Keith R. Ball, Bikernet.com President. “His assistance helped the team achieve two world records in two years.”
“If you cut us, we bleed salt,” said Dave Rash. “We are proud of the effort Bandit and his 5-Ball Racing team put together, and we are excited about the results and even more excited about working with the team in 2008.”
D&D Performance Exhausts are available from Custom Chrome dealersnationwide or from the factory at 817-834-8961, www.danddexhaust.com.

SCOTT JACOBS BREAKS ANOTHER RECORD–After breaking last year’s record for sales at the Sturgis Rally six weeks ago (just over two hundred canvas giclees sold), Scott Jacobs has been in the studio working on a new Marilyn Monroe painting which has been selected as the fifth image of the Marilyn series. As you can see from the visual below, this stunningly detailed painting contains THREE Marilyn Merlot bottles and took Scott over a year to complete.
Scott’s Marilyn Monroe Series has become some of the most coveted artworks in the market and LADIES IN WAITING could easily end up being the signature piece of the collection. The original painting sold recently at auction in Napa Valley for a record price. Only sixty of the Artist’s Proofs from the studio will be produced and many of those are already spoken for so don’t delay if you like this one. (Retail: $1550 or $1850 with custom frame package. 33 X 25 canvas size or 40 x 32 overall framed).
Also Mr. Jacobs will be making a personal appearance in Denver, Colorado on Oct. 11 at Fascination St. Gallery in Cherry Creek. CORRECTIONS OFFICER IN JAIL ON SEX CHARGES–Brevard County sheriff’s agents concerned about a state corrections officer’s past interactions with law enforcement lured the man out of his home this past weekend to arrest him on child abuse charges.
William Carlile, 47, is being held without bond at the Brevard County jail on 24 counts of sexual battery on a minor and 60 counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a minor.
Carlile, a housing officer at the state-run Brevard Correctional Institution, is accused of molesting the teenage girl during a five-year period, said Lt. Tod Goodyear of the Special Victims Unit.
Given past complaints filed against Carlile – he was accused of a similar crime seven years ago by a different child, but he didn’t go to trial – his arrest may mean other children are potentially protected, Goodyear said.
This was not the first time the SWAT team dealt with Carlile.
Domestic battery charges filed against Carlile by his wife seven years ago led to a standoff with the sheriff’s SWAT team before he was arrested, Goodyear said.

FLORIDA’S PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION INSURANCE–For many years Florida drivers were required to have Personal Protection Insurance (PIP) on their vehicles. This insurance was to cover you if you were injured by another vehicle operator. DUH! Having to have insurance to pay your medical bills if others injure you. Now if you happened to have health insurance that would cover you in the same situation you are paying twice for basically the same coverage.
During the law that expires October 1, 2007 Motorcycles had been excluded from having to have PIP.
The Florida Legislature is working on a new bill that revises the states $10,000Medical coverage for motorist and passengers. Though written to take effect immediately, it would not put all Florida motorists under the same requirements until December 1, 2007
Please note that motorcycle riders in Florida that wish to ride without a helmet must have medical coverage.
Motorcycle riders in the State of Florida are strongly advised to contact their elected officials and let them know that they wish motorcycles to be excluded from PIP as they have been in previous years. This does not mean you can not get this insurance if you desire, but That You Are Not Forced To or are excluded if you have other forms of insurance that cover you.
Why should we be forced to carry more than one insurance policy that covers us for the same thing? Please Contact Your Legislator Now, Time Is Limited!

Please let me know. –Katie TOMMY GRIMES AND MID-CONTINENT MOTORSPORTS TO MAKE NHRA RICHMOND–Pfafftown, NC: Reigning NHRA Screamin’ Eagle Nitro Harley champion Tommy Grimes will be competing at the Torco Racing Fuels NHRA Nationals held at the Virginia Motorsports Park, Oct.5-7 with Mike Bahnmaier’s Mid-Continent Motorsports team. “Grimes is a major player and should not be written off”, according to Mike Bahnmaier, ‘mostly retired’ Nitro Harley racer and team owner from Wichita, KS. “My bike has been in mothballs and we were campaigning the Pro Dragster bike with Rick Moore. The Top Fuel bike is available that weekend and I thought what a great opportunity to show off the 2001 186 cid PRP powered Weekend chassis monster. We wanted to see Tommy go to Richmond to honorably maintain his Screamin’ Eagle Nitro Harley points lead for the NHRA exhibition championship.” Bahnmaier’s been around the sport for years. He started Harley-Davidson of Salina in 1978. After owning the Mid-Continent Harley-Davidson in Wichita since 1987, he sold that dealership in July of 2005. Bahnmaier, ” I started racing in 1969 on an ironhead Sportster, from 1979-88 I competed in the Pro Gas class and then went to carburated Nitro in 1988 and then Pro Fuel 1998. We won the AHDRA championship in 1999 and we’re runner-up in 2000 and I went on to Top Fuel in 2001. A couple years ago I thought I was ready to retire, but that nitro smell kept dragging me back to the track. Once you win an event on nitro it seems like you’re hooked. We love the people, the power and want to maintain a presence at the track. This is a good opportunity for both Tommy and my team.” Bahnmaier goes on to say, “The Mid-Continent Motorsports team includes: myself, Joe and Neita Bahnmaier my mom and Dad , Dave Larson of Topeka H-D, Drew Moldenhauer, and Jody Dukelow both of Wichita, KS. We are actively and successfully competing with Rick Moore, Reading, PA, piloting our Pro Dragster program.” Grimes is very excited about making the Torco Racing Fuels NHRA Nationals. ” Mike and I are totally committed to this event. Quite frankly, it was bothering me that I had won 2 out of the 3 NHRA Screamin’ Eagle Nitro Harley exhibitions and was concerned that without a ride, the trophy wouldn’t be really ‘earned’, I’m feeling great now and look forward to making the show and winning the event for Mid-Continent Motorsports.” The Mid-Continent Motorsports team is supported by: Harley-Davidson of Salina, Mike’s Metal Polishing of Ransom, Ks., Gates Corporation, Saum Engineering, CP pistons, Nungesser Engineering, and Nevada Auto Mall. –Grimes-336-766-7908 THAT?S IT FOR THE NEWS–The guys left this morning and I plan to relax. Clean house, work on the courtyard and party with the girls. That?s my way of relaxing. Have a great weekend and don?t expect me to post an article a day like Bandit does. Hey,We’re going to jump right into the news. We’re packing for the Smoke Out West Run to Cottonwood, loading our weapons and sharpening our knives. I had lost my favorite knife, a 3-inch pocket Beratta, made in Japan. Sin Wu found it this morning, after two months, under the seat of the truck. It’s light and easy to carry in your pocket.
Believe me, I have a bunch of knives, but I missed this one. The Alaskan trip is heating up and Berry Wardlaw and Duffy are researching the trails. We’re trying to swing around Canada because, to be apart of this run clan, you must be a prior felon, and they’re not allowed in Canada. Actually, there are too many restrictions regarding Canada, so we’ll steer clear. Let’s hit the news. A short Hispanic lady with substantial cleavage is making me Salmon Tacos and I can’t let ’em get cold:
BIKERNET SHARPEST SOFTAIL CONTEST SPONSORED BY D&D–Vote for the sharpest v-twin Softail from the Bikernet Community. Simply vote for the one that you like the best. The motorcycle that gets the most votes receives a new set of Fat Cat pipes from D&D Performance Enterprises.

STOLEN MOTORCYCLE DISCOVERED–The 1972 Honda CB450 – Father-Son Project – that was stolen in Denver….has been recovered, and is now SAFE AT HOME.Thanks to EVERYONE…across the NATION and around the WORLD…for helping to get the word out. This internet thing’s pretty cool.
It’s terrific to see we can all come together to help find a bike of such special significance. The America I grew up in – still exists.
Thanks, everybody!
~splatt
THE OFFICIAL WORD…..Evidently whoever tried to take the bike only got a block away. He found it this morning in an alley, kick-stand up, just sitting there. Needless to say he was very relieved and will now take some precautions to secure it. Thanks to all of you for your response. My husband and I ride and once again this cements the thought that bikers are the cream of the crop. Thanks again!
BRASS BALLS BOBBERS BIRTHDAY BASH IN STURGIS– Dar Holdsworth, Capo at Brass Balls Bobbers, made a birthday wish come true by building a copy of the company’s flagship Tattoo Bobber for a 40th birthday present. Check it out at Bikernet TV. If you want one for yourself the original Tattoo Bobber will be auction off next week on eBay. Check brassballsbobbers.com for details.
W8LESS ROTORS FOR SONNY BARGER–The second set of rotor is for the Founder of the Hell’s Angels, Sonny Barger. Sonny will be 69 this week, and Ray and the Angels of Oakland, CA are giving a set of rotors to him as he is the most influential member still living, has written 4 books, been in several movies. The angels are going to sell the rotors in all of their Harley shops worldwide (of course only in the US for now). His birthday will be a big event and will give us a lot of publicity among a large group of riders.
He has a 2001 Road King. The rotors should have standard machined blades, black carriers, and polished buttons. Please include 30 gold buttons and clips to match in case he’d rather have gold buttons. Ray has introduced me to a couple of influential members and they love Ray (he is not a member, but has known them for years).
Thanks so much in advance for preparing rotors for this weekend for our show in Myrtle Beach. If you could send me 50, I would sell them all. But the specifications for the 9 Bob gave you today will do. Another 3 would be great for a total of 12 if possible. I was thinking plain blades, orange carriers and black buttons (Harley-Davidson colors), for a total of 12 would be great.
The Atlantic City show had maybe 300 hundred people attend for both Sat and Sun. Regarding the Suzuki rotors, Chris Onwiler will get a 600cc GXR and test them. He will run his report on his web magazine, which is big among the Track Day guys. We will talk about this later.
Another important dealer I set up yesterday was the owner of the Harley Shop in Atlantic City. He is a famous drag racer and former president of the EDRA (eastern drag racing association). His dealership was just across the street from our motel. He held the Sportster rotor and the polished rotor in his hand for 20 minutes and didn’t want to let them go. He said he would be meeting with Mike Murphy’s boss at Harley this week at the dealer meeting in California. (Mike is the head of brakes and suspensions at Harley in Milwaukee.) He will be ordering rotors for his bike, his son’s bike and his top guy’s bike. The idea of a light, quiet, non-warping rotor is just what the doctor ordered for Harleys.

THE BIKERNET TEXAS RANCH–A Texas rancher got in his pickup and drove to a neighboring ranch andknocked at the door. A young boy, about 9(red), opened the door.
“Is yer Dad home? ” the rancher asked.
“No sir, he ain’t,” the boy replied. “He went into town.”
“Well,” said the rancher, “is yer Mom here?”
“No, sir, she ain’t here neither. She went into town with Dad.”
“How about your brother, Bobo? Is he here?”
“He went with Mom and Dad.”
The rancher stood there for a few minutes, shifting from one foot to theother and mumbling to himself.
“Is there anything I can do fer ya?” the boy asked politely. “I knowswhere all the tools are, if you want to borry one. Or maybe I could takea message fer Dad.”
“Well,” said the rancher uncomfortably, “I really wanted to talk to yerDad. It’s about your brother Bobo getting my daughter, April, pregnant.”
The boy considered it for a long time….then… “You would have to talkto Pa about that” he finally conceded. “If it helps you any, I know thatPa charges $50 for the bull and $25 for the hog, but, I really don’t knowhow much he gets fer Bo.”

Thanks for the heads up on this bill. We are already in the act of getting this defeated before it ever sees the light of day.
I can tell you that you need to already be on the phone to the two folks that represent your particular district of Florida and letting them know how you feel about this proposal. That is the way this thing is going to be defeated – by folks like you who let their officials know this is bad legislation in a polite, concise, and articulate manner

Introduced as original equipment on 2008 Touring models, the rubber compensation elements in the sprocket act like a cushion, absorbing the power pulses from the engine.
With the IDS installed, the motorcycle feels smoother and is quieter while accelerating, shifting and cruising. Kit includes sprocket, compensator bowl, and installation hardware.
Fits 2007 Touring models equipped with original equipment and most Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessory wheels. Does not fit with 80-Spoke Laced Wheel P/N 42954-04, Polished Spun Aluminum Disc Wheel P/N 43760-03 or Slotted Six Spoke Wheel P/N 43932-02 (chrome) or 43933-02 (black).

STEVENSON’S CYCLE AND EVIL-ENGINEERING COLLABORATE ON L.S.D.–Wayne, MI-September 27, 2007 -Stevenson’s Cycle and Evil-Engineering have put their ingenuity and experience together to create a new Lowered Starter Design belt drive with several great features.
Made to fit custom applications, this two-inch open belt drive has a Lowered Starter Design that puts the starter behind the transmission. This allows you to drop seat height and or put a larger oil tank in for more oil capacity on those big inch motors.
Evil-Engineering, is already well known for their belt drives with a helical / herringbone offset tooth design that reduces belt drive noise up to 40% over straight tooth belt while also reducing vibration. It’s designed to handle increased horsepower by having “three teeth” fully engaged at all times, making it 30% stronger as opposed to only having one engaged in standard belt drives. It’s also self-centering, so you don’t have to worry about the belt drifting on the pulley. The Lowered Starter Design belt drive system also comes with a large 7 inch clutch that provides more contact surface for those bigger inch motors.
Stevenson’s Cycle, located in Wayne, Michigan, is owned and operated by Steve Broyles Sr. and his son, Steve Broyles II. Steve Sr. has been building, customizing, and repairing motorcycles since 1969. Stevenson’s Cycle is also known in the V-twin industry for their extensive performance and engine work.

HUGE NEWS FOR THE BIKERNET.COM CO-SPONSORED SMOKE OUT WEST, BILLY LANE COMING–Huge news for The Bikernet.com co-sponsored Backstreet Choppers Smoke Out West this week. Billy Lane is building a Knucklehead bobber for this historic first West event. Billy has been a huge part of putting the Horse Smoke Out on the map.
When we started the East Coast Horse Smoke Out event years ago- it was all altruistic. We wanted an event for choppers and builders. Billy Lane is obviously a huge star now, but he really has not changed in his support for everything Chopper. He has a travel schedule that would kill a mere mortal –so I was just happy as hell to hear he could make it.
When I heard that he his building a bike especially for the event, it rocked my world. Some builders talk about their support for the underground chopper world but Billy walks the walk.
More big news, I got the following note from Bandit. ?We’re riding out, 200 strong, guns blazing, horny for roller derby girls and whiskey. Look out.?
The Smoke Out is the world?s largest Chopper Rally and will be held October 5-7 on the Verde Valley Fairground in Cottonwood, AZ (20 minutes South of Sedona). The event will start Friday – October 5, 2007 from 5pm to 11pm. Saturday, 10am to 11pm and Sunday, 10am to 4 pm. For more information (or a vender packet) check the website SmokeOutRally.com website or venders call e-mail Edge at edge.42@mac.com.

ICONIC VINCENT MOTORCYCLE DEBUTSNEXT WEEK AT MOTOEXPO SAN DIEGO–Del Mar, CA, September 27, 2007 —- Once respected as the fastest production motorcycle in world, the Vincent suffered a slow death in the 1950?s only to come back recently as a strikingly contemporary re-iteration where it can be seen at MOTOEXPO SAN DIEGO that roars into the Del Mar Fairgrounds next Saturday and Sunday (October 6 and 7).
David Arnold, show director for the first annual MOTOEXPO SAN DIEGO, who made the announcement this week, said two prototypes of the iconic Vincent motorcycle will be on display. The juried show of customized sports and street cruisers will also feature an assemblage of one of a kind, handcrafted motorcycles in a special display called MOTOMASTERS.
?We are honored that Rancho Santa Fe entrepreneur and rider, Bernardo Li, who is bringing back the Vincent, would agree to showcase these awesome motorcycles at our show,? said Arnold. ?The motorcycle world owes Mr. Li and his organization a ?thumbs up? for not only making the investment in bringing back the Vincent and creating these two prototypes but for interpreting the bike?s pedigree and turning it into a sleek, dynamic machine ? heavy on the horse power but lithe in handling.?
According to well-documented media reports, The Vincent Black Lightning hurtled over the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah in 1949, pegging the needle at 151.131 miles per hour, and setting a land speed record for a production motorcycle that would remain unbeatable 20 years beyond the company?s closing in the mid-1950s.
The original Vincents, according to Arnold, were made in England and were born of speed. The original builder, Howard Raymond Davies, was committed to building a radical new bike. He did. And it reached 66 mph in 1926. Shortly thereafter, Philip Vincent, also a Brit, bought the company and, in 1949, launched the Vincent in the United States.
According to Arnold, the two Vincent prototypes are among other exciting displays and activities taking place Saturday and Sunday at MOTOEXPO SAN DIEGO. The two-day event also includes a dazzling array of vintage motorcycles and MOTOMASTERS ? an invitation only, beyond-the-jury collection of priceless, one-of-a-kind handcrafted motorcycles that epitomize the highest achievement in aesthetics and engineering. Among those exhibiting are Christian Dotson and his award-winning bike that won the coveted ?America?s Most Beautiful Motorcycle award? at this year?s Los Angeles Roadster Show in Pomona, the irrepressible Roland Sands, the enigmatic Chica, and making a rare appearance will be two bikes from Confederate Motor Company ? the B-120 Wraith and Hellcat.
Tickets are available online and will be available at the gate. For additional information go to www.motoexposandiego.com
INCREDIBLE–Let?s party. Did you read the news: New Vincents coming, Confederate making another run at success and the guys who fixed Chris Craft boats are preparing something with Indian somewhere. Watch over the next couple of months as we witness motorcycle battery wars as new technology is unleashed on the custom market.
It?s fascinating. We live in a very small niche market, yet when a man or a woman has a dream and the resources to make it a reality, they?ll go for it. From the custom builder breaking his neck and pocket book to build his first bike in his or her apartment, to a full blown manufacturing facility designing a remake of the Vincent.
There?s never a dull moment when it comes to creative minds. They never stop churning out a new and exciting notion. We?ll be here to test ?em, cover them and bring you the story.
Ride Forever,

BIKERNET.COM PUBLISHES THE HISTORY OF CALAMITY JANE–I was perusing some long forgotten and out of print novels at Arthurs Classic Books when I came across this gem.The Life and Adventures of Calamity Jane, written by Herself.Four pages long it details in brief her adventures in the Old West, including how, when serving as a scout with the famous 7th Calvalry, she went to Bear Butte Creek and in the fall and winter of 1877 helped build Fort Meade and then the town of Sturgis.
Also includes the death of her friend Wild Bill Hickok, and how she caught his killer.Fascinating document, I thought you might like to post it at Bikernet.
I daresay few people have ever read it, much less any of the thousands of bikers who make the annual pilgramige to Sturgis every year.
Cheers: Jaq.

OFFICIALS FIRE ALTON POLICE CHIEF ACCUSED OF SEX ASSAULT– ALTON, Texas – The chief of police has been fired weeks after the South Texas lawman was accused of sexually assaulting two male employees.Jose Luis Vela was suspended after his Aug 29 arrest on two charges of sexual assault. Since then, three current and former police department employees have accused Vela of sexual harassment.
Vela was officially fired Friday for poor record keeping and possible theft of confiscated items. City Manager Jorge Arcaute said allegations surfaced accusing Vela of stealing alcohol confiscated by his department.
Vela said he never took confiscated beer, nor was he involved in logging items. He is out on bail and plans to plead not guilty to all the charges.
Investigators have accused Vela of performing oral sex on a male employee after the man passed out drunk at a party about a year ago at Vela’s home in Mission, according to court documents. Vela is also accused of violating a different male employee with an object while that man was passed out at a party in July, Sheriff Lupe Trevino said.
Alton is a town of about 4,400 residents, located 10 miles north of the Mexican border in the Rio Grande Valley.

NEW ENGINE FROM CONFEDERATE MOTORCYCLES–Confederate uses Small Block ‘slice’Confederate Motor Co., a Birmingham,AL, specialty motorcycle builder, hopes tosmash the mold of such bikes as deriva-tives of Harley-Davidson design andengineering.
The company’s raison d’êtrehas been unique, minimalist original de-sign, but it continues to use a 45° V-twinengines like those of Harley-Davidson.
Confederate is plotting is own newengine using a different architecture, butcreating an engine from a clean sheet ofpaper and contracting for supply of thecomponents is too expensive a propositionfor the small startup manufacturer.
To trimsome of the expense of designing, devel-oping, and testing components, the com-pany’s new engine is derived from an exist-ing design so that some of the existingexperience with that engine can be ex-ploited and some of its components used.
Confederate turned to another Americanengine just as iconic as the Harley V-twinfor its architecture: the Chevrolet SmallBlock V8.The engine planned for use inConfederate’s next model borrows thearchitecture of a two-cylinder slice of theV8 design. While this solution obviouslyrequires a custom casting for the engine’sblock and heads, Confederate is able touse some internal parts from the GeneralMotors supply chain, including the verydesirable Mahle titanium connectingrods used in the Corvette Z06’s LS7 en-gine.
Confederate contracted with enginedevelopment specialist Katech to designand supply the engines after seeing thecompany’s handiwork in producing thesuper-sized Small Block V16 used in theCadillac Sixteen concept car.
Now, Confederate is developing theRenevatio, its first motorcycle that doesnot feature a Harley-inspired 45° V-twinengine. “This was really the bike wewanted from the beginning,” saidConfederate founder Matt Chambers.
Current models, such as the Wraithand the Hellcat, prominently exhibit enor-mous frame tubes, but they will be lessvisible on the upcoming Renevatio be-cause the new 90° Chevy-based V-twinalso serves as the frame’s main compo-nent. The goal is to advanceConfederate’s mantra of simplicity, withthe dual benefits of light weight and re-duced cost.
“I think you’ll find our system is smallerand lighter than anyone else’s, and I thinkit looks cooler,” said Chambers. He alsopredicts the new bike will come in at lessthan 300 lb (136 kg), though the engi-neering team at Katech says it is aimingfor less than 400 lb (181 kg), according toCaleb Newman, Director of AftermarketOperations for Katech.

There ain’t no mo’. BRUCE ON BIKERS RIGHTS–THERE ARE MORE THAN 18 WAYS TO SHUT’EM UP (Help Me Pick the Winner of our HANG UP AND DRIVE Contest!)–On 13 September 2007, I sent a letter to National Transportation Safety Board (“NTSB”) Chairman Mark Rosenker in which I pointed out that restricting cager cellphone conversations could have saved as many as 10,660 lives in 2006, which is about 15 times more than would’ve been saved by lidding every rider in the land: http://tinyurl.com/2jcefx But the calls continue … and so does my call for Mr. Rosenker’s resignation. One reason we delay in dealing with this deadly distraction is the slippery slope argument that there are many other sources of distraction that are equally dangerous. In other words, why single out talking on a cellphone as opposed to eating a burger, drinking coffee, fiddling with the radio, flirting with your date, or yelling at the kids? Are cellphone conversations really more distracting and deadly than any of these? Well, the cellphone industry certainly wants us to think the answer to the last question is “No.”… …but as Malcolm Gladwell and David Strayer explain, the true answer is “Yes!”: “This is a common problem in driving. Talking on a cell phone and trying to drive, for instance, is not unlike trying to count passes in a basketball game and simultaneously keep track of wandering animals. ‘When you get into a phone conversation, it’s different from the normal way we have evolved to interact,’ David Strayer, a professor of psychology at the University of Utah, says. ‘Normally, conversation is face to face. There are all kinds of cues. But when you are on the phone you strip that away. It’s virtual reality. You attend to that virtual reality, and shut down processing of the here and now.’ Strayer has done tests of people who were driving and talking on phones, and found that they remember far fewer things than those driving without phones. Their field of view shrinks. In one experiment, he flashed red and green lights at people while they were driving, and those on the phone missed twice as many lights as the others, and responded far more slowly to those lights ghts they did see. ‘We tend to find the biggest deficits in unexpected events, a child darting onto the road, a light changing,’ Strayer says. Last month, I posed that question to our readers in form of a contest. Here was the offer… “IF YOU HAVE ANY SERIOUS, ORIGINAL, FEASIBLE AND LEGITIMATE IDEAS AS TO WHAT ACTIONS AMERICAN MOTORCYCLISTS CAN TAKE ON THE STREETS TO ENCOURAGE CAGERS TO HANG UP AND DRIVE AND/OR PENALIZE THOSE WHO DON’T, PLEASE POST IT ONLINE HERE:” “THE CONTRIBUTOR OF THE BEST QUALIFYING IDEA POSTED NO LATER THAN 15 SEPTEMBER 2007 WILL RECEIVE A CASH PRIZE OF ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100.00). The reason this happens, he said, is that “horses are independent beings with their own agenda.” Not to mention that horses weigh up to 500 kilograms, move at a speed of up to 65 kilometres an hour, elevate riders up to three metres above ground and kick with a force of nearly one ton. The research, published in the American Journal of Surgery, is based on a decade of trauma data collected at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary. From 1995 to 2005, there were 7,941 trauma patients at Foothills, including 151 who were severely injured while horseback riding. Seven per cent of the riders died of their injuries and 45 per cent required surgery, the study said. “For many of the people we interviewed, their riding accident was a life-changing moment,” said Jill Ball, an occupational therapist at Foothills and co-author of the study. She said that, while she grew up riding horses, the research has changed her perspective on the safety of the sport and the need for protection. “I now wear a helmet and vest when I go riding,” Ms. Ball said. The hospital admission rate associated with horse-riding injuries is 0.49 per 1,000 hours, compared to a rate of 0.14 per 1,000 hours of motorcycle riding, according to the research. Among those treated for traumatic equestrian injuries, only 9 per cent had been wearing a helmet. Thirty-one per cent wore other protective equipment, such as Kevlar vests. Almost half of all riders who were seriously injured (48 per cent) suffered head injuries, and 54 per cent suffered chest injuries. Most riders were hurt by falling or being thrown from the horse, followed by being stomped or kicked. In Western riding there is a tradition of wearing a cowboy hat rather than a helmet. In English riding, a helmet is the norm. Dr. Mulloy said he takes comfort in the fact that about half of rodeo riders now wear helmets and a large number of cowboys who drive cattle out of the hills are also helmeted. By ANDR? PM’S NEW FOR 2008 CARTEL WHEEL!–Curvaceous is the only way to describe the new for 2008 Cartel wheel from Performance Machine. PM has a long history of pushing the design window of motorcycle wheels and their newest of the new is a perfect example of these skills. Seven curved spokes advance from the hub, split into 14 spars before converging into PM’s beautifully arced Contour Lip rim. The effect is pretty astonishing and gives the wheel a near liquid chrome appearance.
Like all of the PM wheels, they also build a design matched disc, pulley and sprocket and are creating them in every size imaginable.

THREE BIKERNET MONASTARY ITALIAN NUNS DIE AND GO TO HEAVEN–At the Pearly Gates, they are met by St. Peter. He says, Sisters, you all led such exemplary lives that the Lord is granting you six months to go back to earth and be anyone you wish to be.”
The first nun says, “I want to be Sophia Loren,” and * poof * she’s gone.
The second says, “I want to be Madonna,” and * poof * she’s gone.
The third says, “I want to be Sara Pipalini..”
St. Peter looks perplexed. “Who?” he asks.
“Sara Pipalini;” replies the nun.
St. Peter shakes his head and says, “I’m sorry, but that name just doesn’t ring a bell.”
The nun then takes a newspaper out of her habit and hands it to St. Peter.
St. Peter reads the paper and starts laughing. He hands it back to her and explains.
“No sister, the paper says it was the ‘Sahara Pipeline’ that was laid by 1,400 men in 6 months.”

Back in the 1970s, after New York enacted a mandatory helmet law, there was a dramatic increase in cervical spine injuries. So much so that the NTSB made a recommendation that there needed to be a comprehensive study done to determine the relationship between helmets and broken necks. Something may have been done in that regard, but I’m unaware of any further recommendations or results of such a study. Certainly, NHTSA did not make much of a noise about that recommendation and there was hardly a notice in any media or anywhere else outside of New York. Was NTSB “slapped” for bringing that controversy to light? I don’t know, but it’s curious that nobody seems to know about the results of that recommendation and most have forgotten the NTSB even was involved in a motorcycle helmet issue before. Anyone know the answer to this? It’s interesting that NTSB seemingly had no further involvement with helmets until 30 years later. –Tony Pan QUESTION ABOUT QUANTUM CYCLES–I was referred to Bikernet.com from Robert Page at the American Motorcycle Co. I hope you can help me out. I recently purchased a 2000 American Quantum Liberty Cruiser with a 96 C.I. S&S?I am looking for some info. on the bike. There is nothing on the web and I don’t even have a service manual. The bike runs and rides awesome, but there must be a reason Quantum doesn’t build bikes anymore. I really don’t even know what I have in the sense of value or dependability. Were these good bikes? Where can I get parts if I need them? Any info would be helpful. READER FOLLOWS BIKERNET RECOMMENDATIONS AND BUYS FORD FOR A DEAL–Some time ago, I read with great interest an article in the Bikernet News informing your readers about a way to purchase Ford cars and trucks at a great discount. This information was provided by Nick Roberts, a former Ford Motor Co. employee and current AMSOIL Dealer who I have learned took a 3 week bike trip out to Bonneville to look in on your successes at this years BUB trials. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL INVOLVED by the way! Since reading that article, I emailed Nick a couple of times to get the low down on the X-Plan and how it works. He was very forthcoming and informative but I must admit I kept thinking that it was probably too good to be true. Push came to shove just recently and I found it necessary to replace my old 4 wheel transportation after 13 years and some 158,000+ miles ( I also own a sweet 1997 Fatboy, hence my interest in Bikernet). Anyway I contacted Nick again about the X-Plan–this on his way back home from his aforementioned three week bike trip out west and then back east. TALK ABOUT PATIENCE! Let me tell you right now, I had no need to doubt–Nick is the REAL DEAL! The man took the time on his trip to help me out and I would encourage you or anyone else interested in a Fine Ford Motor Co. Product to look the man up. Nick believes one form of patriotism is buying American to benefit Americans–I agree 100%. I thought you might be interested in knowing how Bikernet.com and one of our fellow Bikers affected a reader’s situation in a really big way. Holy shit,
This news may kick my ass. Right this minute, prior to editing, it’s over 15,000 words. It’s a magazine in a day. So hang on, ignore the typos and enjoy all the Thursday sweat poured into it’s making.
Then I’ll think of an ending and hopefully take the ’56 Shovel out for a test drive. Oh, maybe there’s a spot of Jack Daniels still in the cupboard.

SMOKE OUT RUN JUST ONE WEEK AWAY–We’re loading our weapons, riding rigids and heading into the Arizona Desert to find Cottonwood and Smoke Out sponsored in part by Bikernet, for the weekend, beginning the 6th of October. That’s why I need to test the Shovelhead. I changed gearing, built new shit and changed the oil. Oh, I replaced the battery with an Odyssey. If I don’t test it, the oil filter will fall off, the battery cable brake and the chain will leave me along side the road.
“Bandit is also presenting a Bikernet award at the Smoke Out this year? more details to follow on that?,” said promoter, Edge.
Fortunately, lots of builders are headed out. Here’s the list. I’m sure one will have a master link.

S&S UNVEILS X-WEDGE IN AUSTRALIA–S&S Cycle has unveiled their X-Wedge in Australia at a leukemia fund raiser with the help of one of their 50th Anniversary build teams, Road Rage Customs from Auckland, New Zealand, and their major Australian distributor East Coast Customs.
“It was a great day for S&S and this charitable cause,” said S&S President Brett Smith. “I not only want to thank everyone that came to see the X-Wedge unveiled, but more importantly, supported this charity to help fight leukemia.”
On another note, Smith stated, “I haven’t ridden all the X-Wedge test bikes, but I’ve ridden most of them. So far this one’s my favorite, but maybe it’s just being here in Australia. In all seriousness, Ray Pratt and Dave Anderson did a fantastic job and S&S is very pleased to be associated with Road Rage Customs. We’re eager to see what they have in store for us with their 50th Anniversary build as well.”
“The X Wedge is a stunning addition to the S&S range. The quick response and torque is like no other v-twin on the planet. Great job by the S&S team, you should be very proud” said Ray Pratt, after riding the Road Rage Customs machine.
Road Rage Customs has been building custom motorcycles in Auckland, New Zealand, for 11 years and was recently selected by S&S to join the 50 builder team for their 50th Anniversary Celebration in La Crosse, WI, from June 26th through June 29th in 2008.
Ray Pratt, the owner of Performance Cycle Wholesale, the exclusive S&S distributor and largest Harley-Davidson? dealer in New Zealand, has been “a faithful S&S customer for over 22 years.”
Dave Anderson has worked for Ray for 11 years and was the project lead for the Road Rage Customs X-Wedge motorcycle unveiled in Australia at Gold Coast Bike Week. He will also be heading up the Road Rage Customs build for the S&S 50th Anniversary.
Australian S&S distributor East Coast Custom Managing Director Greg Shepherd said he was “delighted to host S&S Cycle President, Brett Smith at the recent Gold Coast Bike Week Rally. To have him unveil the fantastic new X-Wedge motor at an event in support of our chosen charity was even more special.”
Australian v-twin enthusiasts inspected the all new, environmentally friendly power plant, fitted into the stunning New Zealand built custom motorcycle over the duration of the event. Comments by rally goers were very positive all week long. I feel the new motor has a very bright future in our market place and will be another great addition to the already large range of Proven Performance products we distribute.”
East Coast Customs has been distributing S&S products in Australia for 23 years. Their relationship with S&S has been instrumental in building the market and goodwill for S&S Cycle in Australia. They are also an avid sponsor and supporter of the Gold Coast Bike Week and ANDRA, two of the most important venues for S&S in Australia.
IRON HORSE TRIKES HITS EMMY’S–Iron Horse Trikeworks has been offered a reality show by The Shaeffer Entertainment Group, Inc. They have produced and aired several reality shows, including the SPIKE-TV hit Reality Racing where aspiring Nascar drivers compete for the chance to drive in a real race. They have made a serious offer to Mike and Don to shoot a pilot before the end of the year and to be on-air before May 2008.
While showing the trike at the EMMYs, I was also approached by Original Productions, producers of the Discovery Channels’s ICE ROAD TRUCKERS and THE DEADLIEST CATCH. Meetings have been set up for later October. However, Shaeffer Entertainment has asked for “first right of approval” on the production.
The biggest news lately is that I went to the EMMY’s. The trike was set up ON the red carpet. Thanks for making the connection. I have about 60 pictures of Celebrities sitting on the trike and made possibly 8-10 sales. Kevin Dillon, of HBO’s ENTOURAGE, called the show’s producer suggesting the trike be featured on the show.
Serious potential celeb trike owners included Blair Underwood of the new NBC show DIRTY,SEXY MONEY.

CHOPPER DAVE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY WARNING–Spread the word…………DANGER for motorcyclists.DANGER on I-5, forward this to ‘ALL’ motorcyclist that you know……..NOW!!!!!!
This was sent to DOT…. It almost killed me tonight…I have over 150,00O motorcycle miles and this one just about got me tonight.
There is a very dangerous construction situation for motorcycles in the construction zone I-5 NB around mm 189-192 or so. Very shortly after the first sign NB declaring the construction zone there is a 3-4 inch high lane edge that crosses the lane #2 or #3 at an angle.
I rode through there in the dark around 10 PM tonight and I could not see it until I hit it. You have no choice but to hit this ledge at an angle.
When I hit this ledge at about 55 mph it threw my bike violently and I had to struggle to stay aboard. This is going to kill a motorcyclist and I was lucky tonight Shortly AFTER this angled ledge is the first sign cautioning motorcyclists. About a mile further north there is another angle ledge that is similar.
A 3-4 inch high ledge crossing the lane without warning is deadly for motorcyclists. This weekend is the Oyster Run in Anacortes and 10-15,000 motorcyclist will be headed towards Anacortes up I-5. If this ledge is not fixed someone is going to get killed because of it. There is a seriously liability here for the state.

BIKER ARTIST ENROLLS IN THE UNIVERSITY OF BIKERNET.COM– I’m hoping you can help out an old biker/artist. I’ve been doing motorcycle art for the last 5 years,I’ve been showing my art work at rally’s and swap meets in the Oklahoma City area, sure I sell a print every now and then. Not near enough to cover my bills or booth space, and I get all kinds of commits, from fantastic to ( my personal favorite ) ” I can do that.”
Hell I even tried going to the uptight OK Art Council. Think I scared them, I couldn’t get any of those stuffed shirts to talk to me. So without going into any more boring details.
I’m hoping you can help a brother out and steer me in the right direction. My web site is WWW so you can see some more of my artwork. my email is WWW Thanks for your time, let me know which avenue to take next.

BIKERNET PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR–Margarita? Margaritas! Hey, wait for me, I want one (or more) too. Glad you’re kickin’ back some. Any idea when that book’s coming out? I’ve read all the Bonneville updates. What a great time! No new bike for next year?
You should at least give the Salt Shaker and Assalt Weapan a chance for a threesome. Got some friends riding down from N.Y. for Biketoberfest. It’s like a last ride for them before the north becomes a frozen tundra. It’s gonna be sad, one of the guys just lost his wife to cancer. Great girl, we’ll miss her smiling face. We’re hoping the ride will help clear his head.
Anyways, looking forward to hearing about your “projects” for next year.

Here’s a rough list of bike projects: I’m still collecting parts for my Mudflap girl bike. I’m thinking about a flathead 80 engine. I’m looking around, and I need to decide on a frame. A substantial list looms for the Assalt Weapan. I’m waiting on the Departure Bike Works’ hop-up of our 45 cu. in. flathead and Sportster transmission for the Bonne Belle. I’m building a touring FXR for Nyla’s brother, Brad. And Kent, at Lucky Devil’s Metal Works in Houston is building a shrunken bobber with a H-D Evo Driveline, a Kraft Tech rigid and a VL front end for Nyla. She deserves it. It’s my job to document each and every build.
You’ll see us finish the 45 this year, fix the Assalt Weapan and build Nyla and Brad’s bike. That’s enough. I’ll put the Mudflap girl bike together in 2009. I need to finish my first Chance Book. Hang on.–Bandit

CANADIAN COLORS CASE GOES TO COURT– In what is believed to be a provincial first, a trial date has been set for a Hells Angels member who was charged for wearing his club colors in a bar, in violation of Saskatchewan’s new colors ban.
Richard Bandet, 34, is charged with the ticket offence under a provision of the Safer Communities And Neighbourhoods Act (SCAN) that makes it against the law to wear “gang colours” in licensed establishments like bars. Under the act, “colours” refers to “any sign, symbol, logo or other representation identifying, associated with or promoting a gang or a criminal organization.”
On June 9, during the same weekend as a poker run involving the club, Moose Jaw Police were checking local bars for SCAN infractions when they noticed a biker wearing his colors.
Under SCAN, those found guilty of a first offence under the gang colors section of the legislation face a maximum $10,000 fine and/or one year in jail. Subsequent offences carry a maximum fine of $25,000 and/or one year in jail.

CONNECTICUT ATTACKS BIKES FOR PIPES–Be careful this weekend as you ride, since many bikers have recently been ticketed for excessive noise. Here’s a site on noise standards in Connecticut: Ride Safe, –Rogue I HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AT CLUB SLEAZE 2.0 IN PHOENIX–We have a spectacular show planned and are going to debut a couple of new songs from our forthcoming THIRD Big Cock Release “Motherload” (which is stated for release in the first part of 2008). Club Sleaze 1.0 was sold-out to capacity so we moved 2.0 to a larger venue. The booze and debauchery will be happening FRIDAY night September 28th at the plush Martini Ranch in Scottsdale, (South of Camelback and Scottsdale roads). Get there early if you want to get in. Good Times for all! HOT GIRLS MAG FROM THE HOT BIKE CREW–Hey, check his out the latest and greatest to come out the Hot Bike cave. It?s on the newsstands now! Can you believe it, they were dumb enough to let Ernie and I off our leashes to put together another issue of Hot Girls and we nailed this one (pardon the pun). Yeah there are bike?s inside but I don?t think many people will even notice them. You gotta check out Jaimie Nicole, buxom brunette from Vegas who likes to play. Oh yeah and I can?t forget Jordan, this little thing mmm…mmm… Just turn to pg.38 you?ll see what I?m talking about?damn fine little butt on that girl! Ooh yeah, Don?t let Sin Wu see you scoping the bubbly blonde duo, Jackie and Mary?she just might rip yer eyeball out. Hell, even if Sin Wu did pop out your peepers in a fit of jealousy, at least your last sight would be these two sexy kittens! Hey, if the mag doesn’t arrive in a polybag that means that rat bastard postman of yours swiped the behind the scenes DVD we packaged with it. Smart man, though, cause this flick?s got the girls movin? and shakin? all their naughty bits. I had to buy a new DVD player?wore out the lens. Let me know what ya think –Eric Ellis SMOKE OUT WEST SPONSORED BY BIKERNET.COM UPDATE–As those that have attended a Smoke Out in the last thee years know, the Chop Off and voting for the Chop Off winner is a big deal. I talked with all three Chop Off builders today. The bikes for this event are sick. They are all radical builds. Not to give too much way but I have to share a few details. Adam Chandler from Chandler Originals is weighing in with a single-sided-rigid- frame, fitted with a 1949 Ford rear wheel. Adam chose a shovelhead engine. I am dying to see this thing. Bikernet will have pics posted shortly after the Smoke Out. Wes White from Four Aces is weighing in with a 47 Flathead married up to a 4 speed British tranny in a Chopper Dave inspired fashion. He is peppering the build with some British bits to make what he calls, ?kind of a Zero Engineering type show bike.? Steve ?BrewDude? Garn of Brew Bikes, LLC built a 45 Magnum from days gone by. Randy Smith did a series of articles in 1971 and 1972 about taking a Flathead bottom end and using a 900 Sportster top-end. Brewdude has over 300 hours into the engine including fabricating a crank. I can?t think a of another place where crazy builds like this can be appreciated more. Come by the event and cast your vote. See ya there. –Edge LA CHOP RODS DISTRIBUTES ISR CONTROLS?THEY?RE IN STOCK–Gard Hollinger, of LA Chop Rods, In Los Angeles distributes the new breed of ISR race bred brakes and controls from Sweden. A brother asked if Bikernet was going to keep us entertained during the winter-no-riding season and that hit home. Just ?cause we?re adjusting our plans and I may not build a bike for myself next year, doesn?t mean Bikernet won?t be hopping. We?ll cover everything that moves, if we can. More Bikernet Television shows and interviews will hit the site. More features, more fiction and more girls will fly onto the site. We?re working with two other players, Johnny Humble and Jeff Najar to launch stories, so more material can hit the pages of Bikernet without my involvement. Plus you?ll see the improvements to the Assalt Weapan and the Bonne Belle come together. Plus I?m hoping to work with Redneck Engineering and create a custom touring machine capable of long miles. Looks like we’ll install a Bandit clutch. Hey, and if you have a suggestion, a tech you want covered, a girl shot (sorry) or a bike featured, speak up. We’ll try to move fast. Yep, we’ll be working all winter and delivering it to you. Ride Forever, –Bandit

CUSTOM CHROME PRESIDENT HOLGER MOHR TO RESUME EUROPEAN ROLE–THE Global Motorsport Group has announced that Custom Chrome President Holger Mohr will resume his role as Managing Director Of Custom Chrome in Europe at the beginning of October.
The move follows a year-and-a-half of “successful initiatives aimed at improving the market position of the company’s U.S. operations”, according to the Morgan Hill, California based distributor.
“It has been a privilege to work with the U.S. team for the past year and a half,” said Mohr. “When our partner Cerberus Financial was looking for an industry insider to re-position the business for a return to long-term growth and profits, I saw it as an important challenge and a great opportunity to make a difference in the company and industry I care deeply about.”
“We began immediately with a series of restructuring steps that were designed to improve our operations and cost base,” Mohr said. In addition to establishing a new management and sales team, Mohr notes that his successes include a completely refreshed product portfolio, initiatives that have improved customer fill rates, a redesigned catalog launch and a successful reintroduction of the company to the industry at the 2007 Cincinnati V-Twin Expo.
“As conditions in the U.S. market have caused many to look to Europe for growth, we felt it important that Holger again focuses on maintaining the market dominance of CCE in the European market,” added Dan Cook, Chief Executive Officer, Global Motorsport Group, Inc.
“Holger has done a great job strengthening the operation and putting in place a team that can take us to the next level, and uniquely among distributors he is an ‘ace up our sleeve’ in terms of being able to drive sales and profits in growing European markets,” said Cook.
“I have truly enjoyed my assignment in the U.S.,” Mohr added. “The growing strength of the company gives me the opportunity to return home confident that I’m turning over domestic operations to a solid management team.”

BARRY COONEY HUNTS KNUCKLES–Barry Cooney, owned a shop in Oregon back in the ’70s and has built stellar bikes for at least 30 years. Here’s his latest creation. He deals in antique cars and builds one or two bikes a year for clients.
After building plenty of Evos, suddenly, because of a tattoo he wants to build a Knucklehead. He’s looking for one. If you know of a Knuckle for sale, drop him a line.

ANOTHER HAMSTER CHECKS IN FROM THE SALT FLATS–The family of Bonneville continues to make us smile. Its a great place to share stories, parts, and the love of motorcycles!
I was fortunate enough to have time to read through the last Sunday and Thursday ramblings. I love your Bonneville update as it tugs at the camaraderie, trials and triumphs of the mysteries of the Salt!
Thanks for including our wedding, I wanted to personally thank Berry and Gypsy, Valerie and Rex, and your entire team for attending our service on the salt. It goes without saying that it will forever be etched in the motorcycle memory bank. We are fortunate to start our family there, just as our family of friends has grown there. To look out and see all of our industry friends, family and Hamster comrades assemble in the middle of 30,000 acres of whiteness was breathtaking. The lord shown on us as the ominous skys broke, the light and the spirit amongst the crowd was perfect. A haulmark moment, as Chris Callen spoke of it, with the rainbow and all.
It was amazing to watch the transformation in our 16 year old daughter Erika as she received her motorcycle license this year, ran for the first time ever at Bonneville, learned about altitude, gearing, teamwork and secured an AMA record! The response from everyone to her efforts with the Buell Blast and its 495cc single were awesome. At one point, Larry from Chop and Grind gave up his spot in line so she could bump that number over 100.
On Thursday, Laura said it was like someone just lost the big game when the sigh of “OH!” went acoss the crowd watching the mile on Erika’s final tuck of the week as she came in at 110 mph, only to be foiled by a sparkplug porcelain that broke 150 yards in and it sputtered out the end, for a disappointed young lady.
We were thrilled as a team to watch all the ups and downs and for it to happen for someone so young. We were even more shocked as she was awarded the Womens Spirit award by Erin Hunter of Potter Lumber. The fact that she gave the second half of the monetary award to the Klock Werks team spoke volumes for the family atmosphere that is created and inspired in Bonneville. They in turn told her to put it towards going faster, and the sickness continues! Our 14-year-old daughter, Karlee is already plotting to take over the Blast next year!
Hats off to the 5-Ball Racing team for receiving the Best Engineered award that evening also! Your crew of creative souls built a bike that intrigued people and tugged at the spirit of Bonneville, very deserving. You all earned it, so from our team to yours, Congrats!!
So as it goes and we all share photos, memories, and laughs, we look forward to seeing the guys from Chop and Grind, 5-Ball, Goldammer, Buell Bros., Krugger, and more as our family of friends grows and so do our motorcycle experiences! See you next year at the Family reunion of Gearheads on the Salt! Our thanks to everyone for making our week a blessing!
–Brian Klock
HERE’S THE LAND SPEED RECORD PIPE DREAM–If you’ve kept up on the Bonneville salt reports, you start to understand all the difficulties of racing on the salt. There’s blistering weather, salt conditions, elevation, lack of air density and the surface to contend with constantly. Consequently, it would be magnificent to find a strip of flat asphalt, at least 5 miles long, at sea level, in an area without severe wind and beautiful weather year round. Am I asking too much? Fuck it. I’m asking, and I reached out to Joe Zanelli of Primm Properties in Vegas, for an answer. The Terrible Herbst family recently purchased all the Primm Casinos, so they could race quads and desert 4-wheelers. They may have the spirit to make it happen.
The bottom line: The search is on for a benefactor who loves racing in perhaps Nevada to build a Land Speed Record track.
Just when you think I started something, read the following. Just goes to show there are others out there already trying to find a location.
Search continues for aviation adventurer Steve Fossett
(CNN) — Although there were no signs of missing aviation adventurer Steve Fossett Tuesday evening, an official leading the rescue said she remained optimistic.
Maj. Cynthia S. Ryan of the Civil Air Patrol said Fossett, who has been missing for a day, once walked 30 miles to get help after making a forced landing.
But Ryan noted the challenge rescuers are facing as they comb the high desert region, which is covered with sagebrush and hides deep ravines.
Rescuers are focusing on 600 square miles. “It’s a very large haystack,” she said. “And an airplane is a very small needle. No doubt about that.”
The Civil Air Patrol has 10 aircraft that will be searching until dusk for Fossett, who has been missing since Monday afternoon, she said. The search will resume Wednesday at 7 a.m. (10 a.m. ET).Fossett, 63, was in a single-engine plane when he took off at 9 a.m. (noon ET) in good flying conditions from hotel magnate Barron Hilton’s Flying M Ranch, Ryan said.
He had planned to return to the ranch, which is about 30 miles south of Yerington, Nevada, at noon (3 p.m. ET). The search for him began about six hours later, Ryan said.
Fossett did not file a flight plan, which is not required on flights using visual navigation.
Fossett is the first person to solo around the world in a balloon, and has broken numerous other flight records.
When he left, he had four to five hours of fuel for flight, said Ryan.”Steve took off toward the south and was going to fly southbound, looking around for some dry lake beds for some plans he had for the future,” Ryan said.
Ryan said authorities are analyzing information from radar intelligence to try to track Fossett.
Helicopters and planes from Naval Air Station Fallon, in Fallon, Nevada, the Nevada Air National Guard and the California Highway Patrol are helping in the search.
ON ANOTHER MOTORCYCLE RACING FRONT COWBOY STAN MAKES FOUR FINALS IN 2007–AHDRA racer “Cowboy” Stan Sheppard started off the 2007 season with four final round appearances and one win. In the first three races he has earned a won-loss record of 21-8. He races one Pro class and two sportsman classes in the Western Division of the All Harley Drag Racing Association. He made two finals in Phoenix, one in Dallas and one in Woodburn. His only win was at the Phoenix race in the SEP class.

The last two AHDRA races in are in early November at Pomona and Las Vegas. Stan is hoping to finish up the year as strong as he started.
In the Progas class he runs a former NHRA Prostock bike with a 160 Cubic Inch S&S Prostock motor producing 270 HP which is mated to a Zippers Racecase semi-auto 5-speed transmission, a D&G Chassis and carbon fiber body. At a little over 635 lbs with a 190 lb rider it runs in the high 7 second range. At Woodburn, between qualifying and racing all 6 of his passes were in the 7 second zone including a personal best of 7.85 @165 MPH.
In the Sportsman classes Stan runs a 1994 Lowrider he started racing in 1994. The bike has over 1000 _ mile passes on it and is still running strong. The motor has been rebuilt three times and has 96 cubic inches putting out 110 HP with a belt drive from Karata and an air-shifted Harley 5 speed transmission. It consistently runs in the 11.50’s and is a real workhorse.
Stan is assisted at the races by Mark Archibald, a longtime friend. His sponsors include C.H. Bull Company and Hannan’s Machine Shop plus JLK Precision Motorcycles, Cycle Shack Pipes, Redline Oil, MT Tires, Vanson Leathers, D&G Chassis, S&S and Outlaw racing fuel.

BRITISH CHARITY DEMANDS DOWNSIZING OF MOTORCYCLES– A row has erupted in England after an influential road safety charity, RoadPeace, called on the government to limit the weight, speed and power of high-speed motorcycles in an effort to slow the pace of rising rider fatalities. Make bikes slower to save lives, claims the charity in correspondence with the Transport Select Committee demanding that ministers issue new regulations “downsizing” motorcycles.
The move has sparked a furious reaction from the British Motorcycle Foundation, notes the Evening Standard newspaper, and the BMF has quit RoadPeace claiming it has been betrayed by the organization it has been an active member of since 2002.
The federation also questioned the charity’s figures, pointing out that the majority of motorcycle accidents involved riders of bikes with engines under 125cc. It suggested that pedestrians and cyclists were responsible for many collisions with motorcycles. In a statement, the BMF said: “The vast majority of motorcycle accidents are caused by other road users, road defects or by poor road design.”
Sheila Rainger of the RAC Foundation, a motor vehicle safety charity, said: “RoadPeace is authoritative and is listened to but, unfortunately, in this case its demands are based on emotion, not facts.”

Better Salt Conditions
Reduced Elevation, sea level preferably
Improved Air Density
One track dedicated to 5-Ball Racing
That’s all, Drew. The officials did a helluva job. I know you can take care of the above considerations. Oh, I forgot. Fix the weather, will ya?

MOTORCYCLE SALES SLOW– The runaway freight train of motorcycle sales may finally be slowing down. For more than a decade, motorcycles recorded record sales figures, often showing double-digit annual increases, defying nationwide economic slowdowns and stock market dips. But for the first half of 2007 the Motorcycle Industry Council reports that U.S. motorcycle sales are down for the first time since the mid-90s, and were off by 7% compared to the first six months of last year.
Theories abound, with some suggesting the rise in gas prices and bleak economic picture are making consumers cautious. Others say sub-prime concerns in the housing and auto sectors are making loans less available. Others blame a summer of freaky weather. Others say the slight decline in sales nationwide is a blip that won’t last, and point out that 2007 will still be the third-largest year for motorcycle sales.
Dealers noted that with supply catching up to demand nationwide, consumers are getting better deals, with financing incentives, stable pricing, and great values with added features such as anti-lock brakes, fuel injection and other technical improvements for very little additional cost to consumers.
Dealerships have reported seeing an increase in sales of touring bikes and sport-touring models, as graying riders – and their wives in the passenger seat – seek bigger more comfortable rides. Another trend, again driven by the aging biker population, is the move to trikes. New bike buyers are also demanding such add-ons as satellite navigational systems, even though they are relatively expensive.
Motorcycle sales nationally have always been somewhat independent of practical economics, Wade Rice of Rice Honda-Suzuki-Victory told the Rapid City Journal. “They say 3 percent of the population rides motorcycles. That’s the bad news,” Rice said, but from the dealers’ perspective, “The good news is that 28 percent want them.”
SPEEDING TICKET GET 3 YEARS–WEIRD NEWS: 2 Wheels + 160 mph + School Zone = 3 Years of Lockup According to NBC, a 20 year-old Mesa, Arizona motorcyclist was recently sentenced to three years in prison for riding his 2006 Honda CBR 600 through a school zone and crosswalk at speeds over 160 mph.
Law enforcement officials first spotted the ex-racer traveling at roughly 140 mph through morning rush hour traffic, and a 30 minute pursuit ended with a foot chase that resulted in the man’s arrest. Apparently, his history of reckless driving and riding under a suspended license didn’t help his argument in court.
