And they don’t look too happy about it.

AMERICAN MOTORCYCLIST ASSOCIATION SHAKE-UP–AMA CEO Rob Dingman is putting his personal stamp on the organization. Dingman dismissed three long-serving individuals, two employees and the AMA’s legal counsel, over the span of four days last week.

AMA legal counsel Tim Owen was the first to be dismissed. Owen was not an AMA employee, but he’d served the association for the past 17 years. Last Tuesday, December 4, Owen was called into Dingman’s office and told it was his “last day on the job.”

On Friday, two of the longest serving AMA employees were let go. Greg Harrison, senior vice president of membership and marketing, and Bill Wood, senior director of communications, were asked to leave the AMA headquarters at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 7.

According to someone familiar with the dismissals, they “changed the locks, canned them and then ordered them escorted out of the building so they couldn’t talk to anyone.”Harrison had been with the AMA for 28 years. Much of that time was spent editing “American Motorcyclist,” the AMA’s magazine. The magazine was currently being edited by Wood, a 25-year AMA veteran.

The dismissals follow the departure of AMA board chairman Dal Smilie. Smilie left the organization last month. He’s told friends that it was done for family reasons, but others remain skeptical.

Attempts to reach both Wood and Harrison were unsuccessful. Harrison, through an intermediary, said he would have no comment at this time. Another magazine staff member also declined to comment through an intermediary. But several people within the organization said it was permeated by a culture of fear, with many other long-serving employees worried about their job security. The widespread belief is that anyone associated with the former management is being put on notice that it will no longer be business as usual.

“The AMA’s an institution, not an organization,” one longtime observer said. “I think they’re attempting to deinstitutionalize it by getting rid of anyone.”Attempts by Cycle News to reach AMA Vice President Director of Communications Kerry Graeber were unsuccessful.

BOURGET’S NEW FOUR-WHEELER INTRODUCTION– Bourget’s Bike Works introduces four-wheeler BEST known for its custom bikes, Bourget’s Bike Works chose the automotive specialist show SEMA to launch its 2008 model Shredder F-80. The Shredder F-80 is the industry’s first limited production V8 powered Quadracycle.

Bourget’s Bike Works suggests the Shredder provides the look and feel of an open riding position similar to a motorcycle, with the ride, performance and handling of a high-end sports-car. While it bridges the gap between two types of vehicle, it is designed to appeal to buyers wanting to ride a bike without the risk and worries of balancing on two wheels.

Features on the Shredder include Include a 375 hp, 350 cu.in. Fuel Injected Chevrolet engine, Turbo 350 transmission, Winters Quick Change rear end, Four wheel independent suspension, 4 wheel Brembo disc brakes, all carbon fiber body, and Bourget’s custom 17″ x12″ wheels with Avon 330 Tires.

“Building motorcycles has always been my passion, but after 15 years, I’d become a little bored and needed to challenge my creativity!” says Roger Bourget, President of Bourget’s Bike Works, Inc. “Not everyone who wants one of my bikes is a super experienced rider, able to balance, corner & shift in perfect time. After numerous customer requests I experimented with building Trikes, but, that wasn’t getting me excited! I’d been wanting to build a Quadracycle for some time and now after 3 years of racking my brain and hard work, I’m excited!

“The Shredder F-80 is fully automatic, fully balanced on 4 wheels, and can be leisurely cruised or performance ridden. The Quadracycle can be customized to the rider just like my bikes. You can build it with a fuel efficient 4-cylinder Eco-Tech for cruising on up to a 625 hp Brodix small block for an experienced, performance driven buyer. The Shredder F-80 should get people excited about motorcycles again.”

“Regardless of your riding experience, your age, or your gender the Shredder F-80 will move you to the next level of performance, comfort, stability and quality. Bourget’s is currently in the beginning stages of developing the Quadracycle Shredder F-80 with an electric motor. We may be going green before you know it!”

BIKERNET INVITED TO2008 MastersAugusta National Golf ClubApril 7-14, 2008An Invitation from Benjamin Abrams, PGA–You are cordially invited to join me and my golf professional colleagues at the 2008 Masters. The Masters Tournament has for decades been considered the ultimate in ALL of the sports’ world. I have been fortunate to have experienced many fabulous places and events in the world of golf, and without hesitation I consider the Masters at the Augusta National Golf Club to be the very pinnacle of golf destinations. The Masters, as most of you know, was started by golfing legend Bobby Jones in 1934. It has captured a place in the imagination of all of us that love this great game. Strolling those magnificent grounds in person will immediately show you why television does not do the course justice, much less the intensity of the tournament itself.

I haven’t touched a golf club since Barry Cooney threw one at me. I’m lost.–Bandit

THE GERALD JESSUP STORY IN THE CANTINA–High Quality stuff there sir!….bravo!

The more I’m involved in racing, the more I realize how extraordinary the people are. This man possess the drive and ambition to put his life on the line to do something he loves. At 71, un-fuckin-believable.

There are more stories similar, but every one amazes me. There is a guy, Royce Eaton, 73, races with us in WERA Vintage every race, badd-ass Ducati, in Florida, in July even!…His wife is still his pit crew!….and he runs 2 bikes, the Duc, and a modified Honda 350. Mr. Jesup is an inspiration.. I can only pray I’m doing what he is doing at 71.. instead of crapping my pants somewhere.

WALMART MAGAZINE SALES SLICED– Thought you would want to hear about big doings down in Bentonville, AR – home of WalMart.

It seems WalMart is making big moves to toss the smaller magazines off their racks. In case you didn’t know, WalMart sells as much as 30% of many magazine’s total newsstand sales. They want the magazine wholesalers to stop shipping almost half the magazine titles they are now receiving.

As best I can gather, WalMart’s cut out half the motorcycle magazines. Our American Iron Magazine and RoadBike are fine, but we hear WalMart has cut off the following magazine completely:American Rider, IronWorks, Ride Texas, Rider, Hot Bike Bagger, Robb Report Motorcycling, Motorcycle Classics, Motorcycle Cruiser, Street Chopper, Cycle World Specials and Iron Horse.

Things could get tough for these magazines without being able to sell in WalMarts. And right before the holidays!

–Buzz Kanter

Another publisher in the industry, Jeff Tinnion, pointed out that Hot Bike Bagger has not been removed and Street Chopper was reduced to a bi-annual (twice a year) publication.

BIKERNET RACING PLANS FOR 2008– Glad Bikernet is planning to run Maxton next year. Running at Maxton is a bit different than Bonneville (basically a mile long drag race on a, not so smooth, course with a slight curve at the start). Not really as bad as it sounds but it requires a different set-up than Bonneville to really go fast.

I’m looking forward to seeing the assalt weapon in person at Maxton.

NEW BUILDER PROGRAM FOR CMT TV– “The Chopper Challenge” is a new CMT TV series that shines the spotlight on the master craftsmen who create the most sought after, two-wheeled works of rolling art. This “branded” reality series will debut May 12, 2008, to 84 million homes via Viacom’s CMT network and GMR Entertainment has been retained to handle all brand integration.

Each week, a celebrity master bike builder creates a sponsor-inspired, fully handcrafted, custom logo-branded motorcycle. Equal parts custom design, competition and reality grit, “The Chopper Challenge” is as entertaining as it is unpredictable-and is aimed at the 18-49 demo, as well as the 35 million current motorcycle owner/operators in the United States.

We are offering your brand the opportunity to be fully integrated, in one 60-minute episode of “The Chopper Challenge,” by having one of our craftsmen build a custom Bikernet bike! Category-exclusive brand integration elements include a minimum of 15 minutes of on-screen product integration with the option for spot inventory. (Please see the attached overview for additional info).

As you may know, brand integration traditionally requires a hefty media spend, but because we represent the producers of the show, we are able to bypass this commitment.

Holiday Hey,

What a Holiday Season. It’s bananas. We just shipped out all our Bonneville Sponsor Boxes, over 50 of them. Next week we’ll ship another 50 Bikernet Christmas gift bags and somehow we’ll ship out Christmas presents and cards to almost 300.

This year we’re working with Chris Callen of Cycle Source magazine and some lucky Bikernet fans will receive a full year subscription to the fastest growing magazine in our industry. Chris is doing a helluva job.

I’m trying to find time to keep the Assalt Weapan progress moving. We are rapidly gathering data to perform a computer simulated wind tunnel test. I’m working with Kent Riches at Air Tech on another fairing. Plus Stew from Pegasus is ready with the Nitrous controller for the Pegasus fuel injection system. I’ll try to cover the install next week in a tech tip. Plus, I need to weigh the bike on some Catalina fish scales near the docks. I’ll keep you posted.

Let’s hit the news:

BrassBalls

AFFORDABLE BOBBERS FROM DARWIN MOTORCYCLES– Affordable Bobbers from Darwin Motorcycles DARWIN Motorcycles has created a line of affordable bikes under the label Brass Ball Bobbers. The new machines are described by the company as “the above average bikes for the average Joe.”

The Oklahoma-based company was founded by motorcycle designer Dar Holdsworth and master builder Sam Wills (a former Top Fuel Bike builder, tuner and racer). The intention of Brass Balls Bobbers is to build high-caliber bobbers that are unique, and yet at the same time affordable.

“The reason we can deliver such a sharp and creative motorcycle at such competitive prices is because of the economies of scale that are built into our manufacturing process,” says Dar Holdsworth, Darwin Motorcycles President and Master Designer. He continued: “We feel that everyone who wants a custom bobber should get one, and we have built a bike that has everything that you need, and nothing that you don’t, at a smokin’ price.”

The range of three models are built at the company’s 10,000sq.ft. multi-purpose manufacturing facility in Oklahoma City, with the option of Harley-Davidson Evo, S&S Shovelhead or re-engineered Indian Power Plus engines. The H-D Evo engine is the firm’s value-priced engine.Engine choice is not the only option given to customers. The Brass Balls Bobbers website offers an online build option list that calculates the final build price depending on the fit and finish options selected by the customer. As Dar says: “We encourage our customers to be involved in the development of their bike using our ‘build your bike’ section on the website.”

Brass Balls Bobbers are federally licensed, Kelley Blue Book listed and warranted. “Somebody could own a Harley, or they could own a really unique Brass Balls Bobber, custom built yet manufactured with a VIN and everything,” says Dar.

TWO WOLVES, BIKERNET PHILOSOPHY LESSON–One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two “wolves” inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

“I will say it until the day I die: the military family is the marrow in the backbone of America. And if it seems that I am too upset about financial fraud, I would just like to say that I often cannot sleep at night seething that men and women are giving their lives of us in faraway places while a home their country is being plundered by men in $3,000 suits who get multimillion-dollar severance’s when they are caught.

How many military families lost homes because of predatory lending? I know of at least two, and that’s just in my little world. My resolution for 2008 is to keep plugging of the those “little people” who are a lot bigger than the hucksters on Wall Street.”

LEGEND OF THE BIKERNET FREEDOM BELL– Legend has it that Evil Road Spirits have been latching themselves on to motorcycles for as long as there have been scoots on the road. These nasty and evil spirits are responsible for bad luck.

The legend also sez that attaching a small bell onto your scoot, the Evil Road Spirits will become trapped inside the bell where the constant ringing drives them insane, making them lose their grip until they fall to the ground. (Ever wonder where potholes come from.) So we developed the Bikernet Freedom Bell to address the Evil Road Spirit issue.

BAGGERWORKS TO REVEAL 2008 KIDS & CHROME BIKE “THE DAKOTA”AT V-TWIN EXPO IN CINCINNATI–RAPID CITY, S.D. – A quote from Kurt Koffka, one of the founders of Gestalt psychology, in his book, Principles of Gestalt Psychology, says, “The whole is more than the sum of its parts.” Koffka was simply making an assertion that relationships between the elements or components of a system contribute to the nature of that system in a way that is separate from any contributions made by the elements.

That’s kind of “heady” stuff, but there are a few folks in the motorcycle industry that would agree, wholeheartedly, with Koffka’s statement. Just ask Tom Binyon. Binyon is the owner of BaggerWorks Custom Touring Motorcycles in Wichita, Kansas, and the builder of a one-off custom bagger, “The Dakota”, that will be the featured auction item at the 2008 Kids & Chrome benefit dinner and auction, which will take place on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, in Spearfish, SD during the 2008 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Binyon was introduced to Kids & Chrome during the 2007 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and was so impressed by the mission of Kids & Chrome, which is to enrich the outreach and programs provided by Children’s Home Society (the “Kids” in the foundation’s moniker) and Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame (the “Chrome”), that he contacted the Kids & Chrome Foundation to offer to donate his services on the build for 2008.

Binyon, along with Ted Sands, Vice President Sales & Marketing for Performance Machine and long-time friend and supporter of Kids & Chrome, and Jim Burgess, co-owner of Black Hills Harley-Davidson and Board President of Kids & Chrome Foundation, went to work to enlist partners to supply parts and components for the build.

A generous industry quickly responded. The one-off custom bagger’s list of components reads like a corporate whose-who of the motorcycle world. BaggerWorks is contributing a custom built frame by Rolling Thunder Frames, a Matt Risley fuel tank, a custom Perse Performance front end, a special Baker 250 RSD (right side drive) transmission, and a detachable front fairing from Kevin Evans, as well as many other components. Black Hills Harley-Davidson is building and contributing a fuel-injected Harley-Davidson 110″ TwinCam “B” engine, as well as many other Harley-Davidson components to the build. Performance Machine is contributing the wheels, brake systems, hand controls, and many other components from its Contour line. The bike will also feature a Legend Air suspension, a Vance & Hines custom exhaust, a Corbin FLH Bagset and rear fender, a Danny Gray seat, as well as numerous parts and accessories from Arlen Ness, Drag Specialties, Headwinds, Metzeler and others.

And, while the above-described “sum” of parts is pretty impressive, the “whole” will blow you away, as industry folks will see when the 2008 Kids & Chrome bike, The Dakota, is revealed in the lobby of the Duke Energy Center on the opening day of the V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati the first weekend in February.

“This bike will undoubtedly be the showpiece of the Kids & Chrome benefit auction”, Burgess said. “Tom’s just done a phenomenal job on this build. We believe this bagger will be the ‘crown jewel’ of the Kids & Chrome auction. It will make a huge contribution toward helping our kids at the Children’s Home Society, as well as our friends at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum, and that’s what this is all about.”

Through its fundraising efforts, Kids & Chrome provides the Children’s Home Society with funding to support a home, school, and therapy for children, primarily ages 4 to 13, with emotional or behavioral problems. Most are victims of severe abuse and/or neglect. CHS also provides foster care, adoption services, and emergency shelter services for children who are victims of domestic violence. Additionally, Kids & Chrome provides funds to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum, established in 2001, to underwrite new museum exhibits and further archiving efforts in order to continue its mission of preserving the great history of motorcycling and honoring the men and women who have advanced the sport and lifestyle.

For a sneak preview of the 2008 Kids & Chrome Bike “The Dakota” by BaggerWorks, or for more information on the 4th Kids & Chrome benefit dinner and auction held on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, during the 2008 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally at the Spearfish Holiday Inn & Convention Center, Spearfish, SD, go to www.kidsandchrome.com. JASON SPILLERS RETURNS TO RC COMPONENTS– After being with J&P Cycles for a year, Jason Spillers has returned to RC Components where he has taken the role of VP Sales & Marketing. During his previous employment at RC Components, between 2002 and 2006, he was Director of Sales & Marketing, before moving to take on the position of Director of Operations (Florida) at J&P Cycles, Destination Daytona.

In his new role Jason will be joining Eric Morton (VP of Operations) and Rick Ball, RC founder, to make up the senior leadership team. Jason’s new role will include full responsibility for the Sales, Dealer Development, Marketing, Web Development, New Product Development and R&D teams.

Speaking about his return to RC Components Jason says: “It was really tough to leave J & P Cycles, but RC Components is where my heart has always truly been. I am fortunate to have been here through good times and bad, and have been a part of RC’s unparalleled growth in the industry and rise to the top. It was hard to keep my mind on other ventures when my heart was still with this one. J & P Cycles was a spectacular company to work for, and John and Jill Parham are just remarkable people whom I wish all the best. I publicly thank them for the opportunity.”

Also in 2008, RC Components will be substantially increasing its product offering with Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited. “Before leaving in late 2006, I had just begun our partnership with Drag Specialties. It has proved to be one of our most exciting new ventures to date. There is so much opportunity there, and Drag is likely the most well-run company in the motorcycle industry. I am pleased to pick up with them where I left off and look forward to our future growth together.” Jason said.

INTERMOT COLOGNE TRADE PLATFORM OF THE INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SECTOR–Over 1,100 exhibitors expected at event-filled business trade fair. When INTERMOT Cologne opens its doors on 8th October 2008, the city will once again become the meeting point of the international motorcycle sector. Over 1,100 exhibitors from all over the world are expected to attend the fair, where they will be presenting the entire spectrum of products associated with the fascination of two-wheelers. These products include not only motorcycles and scooters but also trailers and sidecars, parts and accessories for motorised two-wheelers, engines and engine parts, electrical equipment, clothing and equipment for motorcyclists, tools, workshop and store equipment, lubricants and care products, as well as tourism and leisure services for motorcyclists.

INTERMOT Cologne is staged by Koelnmesse GmbH. The event’s conceptual sponsor is the German Motorcycle Industry Association (IVM), Essen.

The previous motorcycle trade fair in October 2006 was a huge success, attracting around 187,000 visitors from 120 countries. This represented an increase of 20 per cent. The significance of INTERMOT Cologne as an important international business platform was underlined by the large contingents of specialist dealers from Germany and abroad. The number of trade visitors rose by more than 15 percent to 52,363 (2004: 45,306).

The share of the trade visitors who came from abroad also increased, rising by 10 per cent to the record figure of 37 per cent. Moreover, INTERMOT Cologne 2006 was an event for decision-makers, as was made impressively clear by analyses of a visitor survey.

HELLO AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS, THE KOSHOLLEKS HOPE 2007 WAS A TERRIFIC YEAR FOR EVERYONE– I’m happy to say our health has been very good the last 12-months and we’ve been able to spend more quality time with friends and family. We feel very lucky to enjoy the work we do and I’m proud to report Theresa tripled the real estate business she did last year (I always knew she’d be a great Realtor).

The big news is that we added a new member to the family – ELVIS, a 14-month old English Bull Terrier. We adopted him in August and we’ve been “learning” each other ever since. He’s quite the character and true to being a teenager, is full of energy, curious about everything and mischievous to a fault (He’s done about $1000 in damages so far). He loves Xena, our tough little Jack Russell, who throws him down and shows him who the real boss dog is (Sounds like Theresa and I, doesn’t it?).

Theresa and I both feel our lives are blessed and we sincerely wish yours is also full of good cheer, great achievement and the very best of health and happiness.

Your Friends, the Kosholleks; Theresa, Xena, Elvis & Dave

RUSTY’S BAND CORRECTION–Rustys band “Attika” will be playing on the 22nd, Saturday nite at Gallaghers in downtown Huntington Beach at 300 coast hwy where the old Golden Bear was located.

Strugis rider live

THE HOLIDAY NEWS SCRAMBLE ENDS–But look out for next year. My list is already growing for January. First on the list is the Sturgis Rider Live talk show due to be shot at the Bikernet Headquarters.

SRL_ show use

This is a shot of their last show. Each show is produced by Charlie Brechtal and aired on Sturgis Rider Live.com plus they will be aired in the Bikernet Studio. It’s like Jay Leno for bikers with Charlie’s Blues Band Playing in the background, guests, and an old fart host, me. Good god.

Our guests for this wild extravaganza at the Bikernet Headquarters include the mastermind behind the Buffalo Chip facility in Sturgis, Woody, and the mastermind behind the World’s Fastest Panhead engine, Berry Wardlaw. Also on the show we will feature Gard Hollinger the Biker-Build-Off dragracing competitor with the fastest motorcycle, but he lost, with footage of the run, and highlights of the parts he designs at LA ChopRods. Then I get to interview one of the Sturgis Rider Live girls. There’s a competition. Charlie searched high and low to find a model that was truly reminiscent of the Chris Kallas girl painted on the front fender of the Assalt Weapan. You’ll see photographs of the feature.

charliegirl

Also featured will be Bill Hayes, the man who wrote the Book history of the Booze Fighters. He’s the most articulate biker on the planet and just finished another book about outlaws and our lifestyle. And finally we have the privilege to interview the mystery, executive editor, of Hot Bike Magazine, Eric Ellis. He’s worked for HOT BIKE for 15 years and only left his computer twice. Once when he got married. This will be the third time, when he rides to our Wilmington Ghetto with the Hot Bike team.

dragracer
We may bring you a feature of this Drag Racing champion after American Iron runs it. It was shot last weekend in Palm Springs at the Air Museum.

And so the new year will kick off to a bang. Hang on. Next week will be packed with a wild Girls of Bikernet feature from Sturgis Rider Live, another Green bike, Pegasus install and I’m going to attempt to write a Cantina Drama segment. Got any wild barroom stories? Ya never know.

One mo’ thing. We have hired a copy editor, Charlene Green, and it makes my day to work with her. No matter how many times I read my crummy copy, I miss shit. She doesn’t miss a goddamn thing. So at least my stories will be cleaner.

MEMO FROM THE BIKENET BOOT REPAIR SHOP– A woman went into a bar in Waco and saw a cowboy with his feet propped up on a table. He had the biggest boots she’d ever seen.

The woman asked the cowboy if it’s true what they say about men with big feet are well endowed.

The cowboy grinned and said, “Shore is, little lady. Why don’t you come on out to the bunkhouse and let me prove it to you?”

The woman wanted to find out for herself, so she spent the night with him.

The next morning she handed him a $100 bill.

Blushing, he said, “Well, thankee, ma’am. Ah’m real flattered. Ain’t nobody ever paid me fer mah services before.”

“Don’t be flattered. Take the money and buy yourself some boots that fit.”

HAPPY HOLIDAYS, THE NEWS IS COMPLETED FOR NOW–Life moves so quickly, more news is flying in as we wrap up this batch, and I start saving it for the Sunday Post News. Fortunately for the good of all of us, most of the news is damn positive.

If nothing else life is non-stop changing and exciting. It’s moving too fast, but what the hell, climb into the kitchen and start cookin’ or stand in a fuckin’ bread line.

Okay, so I’m not Indian Larry, but me and a handful of other biker mag journalists had a blast riding Sucker Punch Sally bikes. This is their new Swingarm model, called the Swinger. I’m about to launch the report, but I need to finish my Bonneville Book for Wolfgang Publishing, scramble to the IMS show this weekend in Long Beach. Then there’s the Moon Eyes Christmas Party on Saturday and the David Mann Old School Show in Ventura on Sunday.

I’ve got some other fantastic plans for ’08, but I need to finalize the details before we spill our guts. Oh, and tomorrow Hiwayman and I will fight traffic across LA to the Northridge University Campus and get a tour of a wind tunnel from Stew, the mastermind behind Pegasus Fuel Injection. I can’t wait. “If one sins against the laws of proportion and gives something too big to something too small to carry it–too big sails to too small a ship, too big meals to too small a body, too big powers to too small a soul – the result is bound to be a complete upset. THE ANSWER TO MAN’S DEEPEST QUESTS– ALBUQUERQUE – Men have been trying to figure out women forever, and now University of New Mexico researchers say you don’t have look much farther than the female nose for answers.

A male scent and a woman’s subconscious response are at the root of trail-blazing research into human sexuality generating surprising and occasionally controversial discoveries.

UNM scientists say tests show that at certain times in women’s menstrual cycles, they have a subconscious preference for certain kinds of men.The biological research shows women go into heat just like animals. That’s right, everything from lady seals to lady porcupines

“Our findings are most important findings about human sexuality in a long time,” UNM biologist Dr. Randy Thornhill said.Thornhill said that heat doesn’t have anything to do with libido.New Mexico researchers claim that when a woman is fertile she doesn’t get more interested in sex, she just gets more discriminating.

“The discovery involves research we’ve done to look specifically at women’s change in preference across the menstrual cycle,” Thornhill said.

The research started with T-shirts scientists gave to men of different characteristics to wear for two nights.”And you give them special soap that doesn’t have scent in it and ask them not to smoke and have sex and use foods that are known to effect body odor to try to control the body odor that these men emit,” Thornhill said. The T-shirts were then bagged and frozen to preserve the smell of each man on each shirt.

Women in different stages of their menstrual cycle were then asked to rate the sexiness of the smell of each anonymous shirt.”What they show is a very selective kind of sexual preference or set of preferences when they’re fertile in the menstrual cycle,” the researcher said.

That preference is for the smell of men with specific kinds of faces and bodies. According to the research, this is what fertile women preferred.

“They like the body scent of testosterone-related factors in men,” Thornhill said. “It has to do with features of the lower face.

“Men’s faces are longer; that’s due to testosterone effects. Men’s faces are wider. They like the body scent of men who are socially dominant.”

Not necessarily bigger but equal in size on both sides of the body.”So women in estrus like the scent, the body scent of men, who are symmetric.”

KRQE News 13 took the results to the UNM campus and got reaction ranging from laughter to “I think it could be true” to “Is this a real study?”http://www.topix.com/news/sex/2007/11/study-sexual-attraction-hidden-in-male-scent

BARNETTS

BARNETT’S MAGAZINE SPECIAL TO SHOWCASE THE AMD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF CUSTOM BIKE BUILDING–Barnett’s Magazine has confirmed details of a special issue which will showcase the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building.

The issue, which will be for sale on newsstands for six weeks from February 12, and available at the V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati, will feature a range of the most spectacular custom bikes ever to appear in one issue. In addition there will be a ‘Bike Builders Parts Guide’ (press release section where product manufactures can showcase their products to industry builders and consumers) and ‘Up Close’ articles within the features showcasing a product on the bike, including parts supplied by World Championship ‘Partners’.

Builders, whose bikes are included, will get their bikes featured on high quality paper in the consumer publication that has been described as ‘the best looking American V-Twin magazine on the newsstand’. Those product manufactures who submit material will be exposing their products to both the consumers and industry in this spectacular issue.

Speaking about the issue, Publisher, Mark Barnett said: “We are very proud of what we have achieved so far, but remain ambitious. THE BIKERNET CHURCH PREACHER’S DOG, NOT HIS WIFE–A Baptist preacher and his wife decided to get a new dog. Ever mindful of the congregation, they knew the dog must also be a Baptist. They visited kennel after kennel and explained their needs.

Finally, they found a kennel whose owner assured them he had just the dog they wanted.

The owner brought the dog to meet the pastor and his wife. “Fetch the Bible,” he commanded. The dog bounded to the bookshelf, scrutinized the books, located the Bible, and brought it to the owner.

Now find Psalm 23,” he commanded. The dog dropped the Bible to the floor, and showing marvelous dexterity with his paws, leafed through and finding the correct passage, pointed to it with his paw.

The pastor and his wife were very impressed and purchased the dog. That evening, a group of church members came to visit. The e pastor and his wife began to show off the dog, having him locate several Bible verses.

The visitors were very impressed. One man asked, “Can he do regular dog tricks, too?”

“I haven’t tried yet,” the pastor replied. He pointed his finger at the dog. “HEEL!” the pastor commanded.

The dog immediately jumped on a chair, placed one paw on the pastor’s forehead and began to howl.

The pastor looked at his wife in shock and said, “Good Lord! He’s Pentecostal!”

BIKERNET OPENS A NEW DEPARTMENT DEDICATED TO METRIC MARVELS– My name is Chuck Shortt, I’m the owner of Rocky Mountain Custom Bikes in Colorado. You and I have met through Ray Wheeler a very close and long time friend of mine at one of the rallies we we’re at. He called me today and explained your new venture of a metric division in your company. He didn’t know much about what you will be doing and any real details but wanted me to contact you about it.

I’m interested in finding out about this and would like to learn more. Ray may of told you a little about me but I’ve had a long time involvement (25 years) in the bike industry. I’ve owned 2 motorcycle businesses, sold one and am still operating one with great success. In fact you had one of our bikes on your front page of Bikernet a couple of weeks ago—The Black Victory Custom Bagger.

As well I’ve had a strong presence in the metric cruiser and sport bike industry in my career. I’ve road raced, done the Salt Flats thing, been up the Pikes Peak hill climb, raced the AMA Daytona 200, built and fabricated one off parts as well as built custom metric bikes tell the cows came home and the list goes on.

Just about every word out of my mouth has something to do with a motorcycle. So if you can get away and would be interested in talking with me, I would be very interested in your future plans.

SANTA GETS HELP FROM 5,000 BIKERS– An estimated 5,000 bikers decked their hogs with boughs of holly, sprigs of mistletoe, canes of candy, garlands, teddy bears and other holiday festoonery Sunday afternoon to participate in the 26th annual ABATE Motorcycle Toy Run.

Their mission: Raise money and collect toys for thousands of needy Brevard County kids. About half the toys go the Shriners for distribution and the rest go to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Cocoa Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies.

“I do it every year,” said Merritt Island resident Randall Bryner, who was driving his newly purchased Tuk Tuk, a three-wheeled motorized taxi from Thailand. “I like the cause and I love the ride.”

The ride: From the Merritt Square Mall, they cruised west on State Road 520, then south on U.S. 1 through Cocoa, Rockledge and Melbourne, arriving at the Wickham Park Pavilion about two hours later. Sheriff’s deputies and local police escorted the riders and provided traffic control, blocking every intersection for a 20-plus mile stretch and keeping everybody off southbound U.S. 1 that wasn’t riding a motorcycle with a toy strapped to its handlebars, sissy bar or saddle bags.Gary Burton of ABATE of Brevard estimated the crowd at 4,700 to 5,000 bikers.near Rockledge Gardens onU.S. 1.

To those motorists and commuters who complain about the inconvenience, Dave Eddins of Merritt Island said: “Get a life. It’s two hours out of the year. It happens every year. Plan around it.”

People lined up at intersections and parking lots along U.S. 1, waving and cheering the bikers on.About 100 bikers were at the Bourbon House to cheer their riding brethren. And at Florida Memorial Gardens, a group of family and friends of Brad Buchweitz waved to the riders. Buchweitz died a year ago Sunday in a motorcycle accident — the day before he was to ride in last year’s Toy Run.

Last year, ABATE of Florida estimated 6,000 motorcycles carried 10,000 bikers and passengers, who donated $4,000 and several truckloads of toys on their 25th annual Toy Run.

This year, they collected an estimated 20,000 toys, from people like Charlotte Henry of Titusville. She brought an armful of toys to the Azan Shriners’ collection dropoff at Wickham Park.

“It’s building on itself,” said Henry, an ABATE volunteer. “It’s an annual community event. It’s people working with people to make it better for needy children.”

STURGIS RALLY BANNER

PAK MAIL SIGNS ON AS OFFICIAL SHIPPEROF THE STURGIS MOTORCYCLE RALLY–STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally announced this week that Pak Mail Centers of America, Inc. (Pak Mail) has been named the Official Shipping Solutions Provider for the 2008 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, according to Ronda Gusinsky, President of OutSource Solutions, Inc, Official Sponsorship Agent of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Pak Mail will serve as the official packing and shipping resource for rally attendees and vendors at the 2008 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. As the rally continues to grow, hosting more than 850 vendors and an estimated 500,000 participants from all 50 states and various countries around the world, the need for on-site convenient and professional packing and shipping services has risen significantly.

An exciting new service will now be made available by Pak Mail to 2008 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally visitors. Through the company’s logistics division, motorcycles can be picked up from any destination including a local motorcycle dealership and transported to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and then back home again. “White-glove” valet service will prepare the motorcycle for shipment, handle all the shipping arrangements and have it ready to ride when the owner arrives in Sturgis. “Many motorcycle enthusiasts who would like to participate in the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally can’t afford the time it takes to ride to and from the rally and still have enough time to enjoy the rally’s festivities. Whatever their reason, we feel our valet service provides an attractive convenience for repeat or new visitors to Sturgis that solves issues related to time and individual preferences,” says Pak Mail’s Director of Logistics, Jaime Ciarla.

From August 1 – 9, Pak Mail will also have a retail booth in Sturgis to offer the maximum amount of convenience when it comes to shipping goods and merchandise. Vendors can direct customers to the Pak Mail booth located on the corner of 1st and Lazelle Street. “Since more than sixty percent of the rally attendees ride their motorcycles to the event, there is limited space available to pack away and safely transport merchandise purchased at the rally. Our professional packing and shipping experts will ensure that items shipped get to their final destinations in one piece and on time,” added Ms. Ciarla.

“We are excited to have Pak Mail come on board as a Sturgis Motorcycle Rally sponsor and feel that having the services that Pak Mail provides available to the vast array of rally activities will be a great advantage to both our vendors and visitors who have to deal with the logistics of getting merchandise and supplies to either the rally or to their final destination. The added bonus of being able to transport a motorcycle right to Sturgis and then back home again is an additional benefit and we are happy to have Pak Mail on-site to offer these services,” says City of Sturgis Mayor Maury LaRue.

Founded in 1984, Pak Mail is a premier specialty packaging, shipping and business support franchise with more than 400 centers in North America and 60 international locations in six countries. For information and locations of Pak Mail Centers, call 1-800-778-6665 or visit www.pakmail.com.

THANK YOU AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM CCPHOTOART.BIZ– We’d like to thank all the artists, record companies, managers and publications who have worked with us this year. Happy Holidays to all of you.

Our Newest Projects

Since moving our offices to the London area in the summer, we’ve been pretty busy. We were involved in Foreigner’s 30th Anniversary Tour, and some of those shots have made their way into the official program of the Ahmet Ertegun concert which will see Foreigner perform alongside the reunited Led Zeppelin.

We’ve done photoshoots for Bedford rockers Quireboys, for Finnish metal heroes Kiuas, and for O2 Undiscovered Award winner Eoghan Colghan. New Orleans based British piano legend Jon Cleary, who is Bonnie Raitt’s regular keyboard player, has started using our work, and our photography was used on the cover of the Jyrojets’ second single.

Joe Satriani has announced his 2008 UK tour using our artwork and he has teamed up with Korg to produce a line of Joe Satriani guitar effect pedals using our photography.

Status Quo’s new album and tour merchandise features our photography, and in December we will not only be working with Quo but also with Bernadette & The North, the band of Francis Rossi’s daughter.

Also we will be teaming up with Anthony Kavana who recently reached the final of the televised Grease Is The Word musical auditions and is working on a new album.

In The Spotlight

We were recently approached by UPPA/Photoshot, one of the leading photo agencies, to cover London concerts for them. Their clients include print media like The Independent and the Evening Standard in the UK, and several publications worldwide. Artists we have shot for them so far include Enrique Iglesias, Pigeon Detectives, Paco de Lucia, Jools Holland, Ray Lamontagne and KT Tunstall.

CALIF BIKE WEEK BANNER

LOVE RIDE 24 WRAP-UP REPORT–Glendale – This year’s Love Ride was supposed to be about the new route, new venue and new things to do as part of the inaugural California Bike Week. And it was. But for the annual charity ride, which over the last two decades has raised in excess of 20 million dollars, some things stayed the same. Like the generous nature of bikers, who braved the threat of rain on Sunday morning to raise approximately $1,000,000 to fund local children’s charities.

“The new route and new venue worked out great,” says Love Ride founder Oliver Shokouh, whose Glendale dealership acts as host every November for the world’s largest one-day motorcycle charity event. “We put a lot of planning into making the Love Ride as enjoyable as possible.”

Shokouh was referring to all the fundraising events that made up this year’s Love Ride. There was the pre-party with the Heather Combs Band on Friday night at the Petersen Museum, the auction of rare motorcycles and exclusive Von Dutch memorabilia on Saturday afternoon (also at the Petersen), the ride itself up Brand Boulevard through the heart of the City of Glendale, over to the Fairplex in Pomona for a BBQ lunch, an All-Star Band featuring Robby Krieger (The Doors) and the main afternoon headliner, Rock ‘n Roll Hall Of Famer Gregg Allman.

A special Love Ride 24 compilation CD was also recorded and produced for sale by the All-Star Band. “We’re still counting monies coming in from the Love Ride merchandise sold at the Fairplex, so hopefully we’ll have more to give to all the beneficiaries,” says Shokouh.

After the concerts by the All-Star Band and Gregg Allman, the top fund-raisers for Love Ride 24 were announced. Eric Schmoranzer set the bar by individually raising $26,324. Jim and Kitti Carnes came in second with $5,300 while Melanie Postell and Lowell Kay finished third with $4,469. Rounding out the top ten were Kent Vest (4th at $4469), Rod Houle (5th at $3430), Kirby Yale (6th at $2866), Scott Siegel (7th at $2501), Rick Young (8th at $2040), Gerard McKenzie (9th at $2001) and William Speeg (10th at $1950).

Winners of the bike contests were: Rick Valusek, who took home an FLHX from the Love Ride Opportunity ticket drawing and James Deluca, who won a 2007 Fat Boy and autographed plague signed by Love Ride 23 celebs for the Signature Bike Raffle.

Beneficiaries of the Love Ride Foundation include the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Reading By 9, Providence Saint Joseph Foundation, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Special Olympics of Southern California, Cure Autism Now, Frostig Center (Learning Disabilities), Scleroderma Research Foundation, Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters, Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services, Glendale Community College, Diabetes Institute and The Friends of Castaic Lake.

Sponsors of this year’s Love Ride 24 included HUMMER, Budweiser, Southern California Harley-Davidson Dealers Association, Event 360, KLOS, Cycle Trader and Recycler Classifieds. For more information on the Love Ride or to purchase Love Ride 24 items, including T-Shirts and the Love Ride 24 Born To Ride Compilation CD, go to www.loveride.org.

THIS YEAR’S FIRST CHRISTMAS JOKE– Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

“In honor of this holy season” Saint Peter said,”You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven.”

The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. “It represents a candle”, he said.

“You may pass through the pearly gates” Saint Peter said.

The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, “They’re bells.”

Saint Peter said “You may pass through the pearly gates”.

The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women’s panties.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, “And just what do those symbolize?”

The man replied, “These are Carols.”

And So The Christmas Season Begins……

One of the girls we’re considering for a special Assalt Weapan feature, and a Girl Of Bikernet Feature.

Happy Holidays, goddamnit,

This is a week of great news, plans, giving with gusto and redheads. I’m not sure where to start. First we’re canceling our adventure to Alaska and that’s good news, because 2008 will be the year of the Veteran on Bikernet. Our efforts will be directed toward helping and supporting Veterans.

We are going to refine the World’s Fastest Panhead, run it at the Maxton Mile and tour the country, selling raffle tickets. We will fly the winner to Bonneville in 2009 to be apart of the 5-Ball racing team and hopefully to set another record.

We are tentatively working with the Fisher Foundation, an esteemed veterans’ charity organization, Easyriders Bike Shows, Carrie Repp of Seminole Hard Rock Roadhouses and a couple of magazines to support the effort. It’s exciting and we hope to do a tremendous amount to raise funds and support for our fighting men and women. Let’s hit the news:

Q&A WITH DAVE RASH OF D&D ON FUEL INJECTION– Question:I get this question often, “When I change to a more free-flowing exhaust system and add a performance air cleaner, do I need to make additional modifications to my system?”

Answer:We often see enthusiasts upgrading a number of things at once including a performance pipe, cam and high-flow air cleaner. In current fuel injected Harley applications you will need a tuner for the bike. We recommend the ThunderMax Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) Controller with the AutoTune Module. This module actually learns how to tune your bike without the need of a dynamometer. It is plug and play so you snap it in and you are good to go. If you make another change to the performance of your motor, it learns again. I’ve placed a motorcycle on our dyno and watched the system learn, amazing!

This is a really exciting project. We’re so encouraged by all the help and interest from everyone!

VETERAN’S SUPPORT INVESTIGATION–Great talking to you yesterday. I took a few minutes to look at the Fisher House and the Fisher House Foundation, both of which appear to be highly rated charities (in terms of efficiency). They are responsible for some great programs where I personally know of people who were helped by those programs, and yet, I was not aware that the Fisher House Foundation was behind the effort. For example, there is a scholarship program for military dependents that my daughter is applying for (which is administered through the commissary). I did not realize the connection. I guess I need to work on my gratitude.

I also looked at Wounded Warrior’s Program which appears to be on offshoot of the United Spinal Association. However, there was limited data on the Wounded Warrior’s as a separate entity from the United Spinal Association because the break was in the last three years. The United Spinal Association did not rate well as a charity.

I am definitely on-board with supporting your charity- bike- raffle- fund- raiser to raise money for the Fisher House or the Fisher House Foundation.

Thanks for including me.

BELT DRIVES QUESTION–I’m doing some winter projects with my bike and have a question regarding belt drives. I like the Indian Larry (I.L. Legacy) bikes belt drives, do you know the manufacturer?

Also, I’ve attached two pics of my bike. As you can see I have a blacked out look going, but I do use some chrome for accents. I’m thinking of doing the same with the belt drive, having everything black, but having a chrome clutch plate cover and such. How would you go about doing this? Also, I really like the look of the Ultima Street Style unit, but I can’t find any info saying it would fit a 2000 H-D Softail. Any ideas?

**Oh, one more thing… I’m having the pipes Jet-Hot Coated flat black. I want to have chrome heat shields with that perforated hot-rod look. There’s a Sucker Punch bike that has this look on their website. Know anyone that makes custom heat shields?

–Jim

Bike 2jim

Your bike looks good. Check with Paul Yaffe about the heat shields with holes. I dig around and find used stock stuff and modify it, drill it, whatever. Then you can rechrome. I always use BDL stuff for belt drives. I like them and they work. You might check their new narrow belt systems with full covers. I would order and set up the new BDL system that I liked. Then I would take it apart and send the pieces out that I wanted powder coated or anodized. I’ll send this to by BDL connection, in case he has other thoughts.

Send me another shot when you finish your bike. Let me know if you need anything else.–Bandit

THE VETERAN’S ISSUE OF HOT BIKE SUPPORTS BIKERNET’S SPS BUILD FOR VETERAN–Hey Bandit, how’s it going? Did you send Santa your Christmas list yet? Sin Wusays you’ve been a bad boy???

Check it out, here is the cover to the latest issue Vol.40 No.2, should beon newsstands any day now. I’m happy with this one, even though wedidn’t plan it this way originally, things just fell in place perfectly forus to turn it into a Salute to our Troops special Military themed issue. Andit all started with a collaboration with Ken Conte,HB, Donny and Jeff fromSucker Punch Sally, Johnny White and Bikernet.com.

This issue features the firstinstallment of Johnny’s SPS build for his brother, a currently serving USMarine. From there we head out to Jacksonville NC to Camp Lejeune where wewatched as Kuryakyn along with PM, Ness and some other key players in theindustry pimp out Sgt. Nick Chaplin’s bagger with 10G’s worth of P&A.

Thecover bike is from former Marine turned bike builder/Commercial air linespilot Ralph Randolph of Knockout Motorcycles. The bike is a ’07 heritage thathe turned into a tribute to the WWII fighter the P-51 Mustang Warbird. Forthe Commemorative Air Force. It’s a bad ass bike.

We also have a tributebike for a father who lost his son in Iraq, and our Pick of the Pen bikecame from a soldier who had just returned from his latest tour of duty andimmediately tore into his Fat Boy. Oh yeah, we also have the latest from theNess legacy, Arlen’s version of Victory’s new Vision bagger. Arlen cut theneck, raked it, slammed it, and had the body panels engraved. Prettyexciting issue.

BIKERNET READER APPRECIATES TECH ADVICE– I wanted to thank you for the tips on hard brake lines made the job easier and less wasted material. So after the brake lines I got ambitious and decided to do the hard line for the oil system with SS seamless 3/8 tubing and bought the old style hard line oil fittings. Theirs the rub the angle on the end of the fitting are not common. The big question is what did the guys do back in the day if a line broke, kinked or whatever. What was the tool they used to flare the tubing they were replacing? I was hoping you would know or know someone who does.

I am attaching a few pics of project Ugly Betty.

BIKERNET HEALTH ADVISORY,Vicks Vaporub–Although the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered it) aren’t sure why, It works 100% of the time .

To stop nighttime coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief.

Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

It was a surprising finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.

THE BONNEVILLE GOD HAS SPOKEN– We hope that you had a very happy Thanksgiving. In-spite of our email and web silence we have been working hard to prepare for the coming 2008 5th Annual BUB Speed Trials.

We are confirming the dates with the BLM, and are in the process of renewing our permit for the use of the Salt Flat. This year the BLM has offered to renew our permit for a 10 year period- so we are planning to stick around and keep doing this as long as you want to race!

Our dates planned for ’08 are 31st August- 5th September. We are planning on opening registration and scrutnieering all day Saturday (30th) and start racing first thing Sunday morning- through to noon on Friday. This adds a full extra day racing to our schedule.

Right now we are going through our rule review process, and we invite your input regarding updates and changes for these rules. We have attached a ‘Request for rule change’ form that must be completed for the request to be valid. Please remember that we will do our best to diligently review the information- weigh the pro and cons of changes and assess each request carefully. The ultimate decision lays with the AMA.

We process the request and put forth the BUB suggestions, compiled from information from our scrutnieering staff and these request forms for submission to the AMA. Please only include valid requests and complete the form fully. We will acknowledge your request being received and do our best to keep you updated on the result. Our aim is to have the 2008 rules ready by the end of January for download.

ALL REQUESTS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY DECEMBER 12TH TO BE CONSIDERED.

The form is a filable pdf with an email button- similar to our entry forms online. They can be emailed, mailed or faxed (please fax or email for the quickest delivery).

Finally- we were the very proud of all recipients of National and World records. There were several participants that where presented with their National records at the Annual AMA Sports Awards Banquet in Las Vegas on the 16th November. BUB Racing/BUB Enterprises was also the recipient of the 2007 AMA Track Racing Organizer of the Year and we share that achievement with you and our sponsors! Our thanks to you all!

Of course if you have any questions at any time please do not hesitate to contact us

We hope you and yours continue to have a happy and safe holiday season!

SEARS SUPPORTS VETERANS–I know I needed this reminder since Sears isn’t always my first choice. Amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and they haven’t withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.

Decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I wrote to the Sears Customer Service Department:

This is their answer to my e-mail:

Dear Customer:Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback. Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

HELMET INFRACTION DISMISSED IN NORTH CAROLINA–News comes to us from our BOLT of the Carolinas Director. The arguments used in this case were similar to and gleaned from the current court challenges in California. This exemplifies the need to challenge these laws in court as a means to strengthen lobby efforts for legislative relief.

Terry Malpass went to trial in Lenoir County, and WON his case.

According to Terry, “I had a trial, got to question the officer, made my argument and the judge read directly from my brief in making decision. The constitutionally vague argument seemed to be the clicker. Got a “good job” from the DA. Judge dismissed the case!”

This is the only recent case known to Biker Court which actually went to trial and was won. There was one other case which went to trial and lost (Stan was wearing a doo-rag), and all other recent NC cases were dismissed prior to trial.

When a case goes to trial. it costs the state $872. If there were 2000 cases to go to trial it would cost $1.7M which has not been budgeted for. Please tell your friends that if they get a helmet ticket, do not just pay the fine.

BIKERNET PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING PUMPING GAS–Tips On Pumping Gas, Tricks to get your money’s worth. TIPS ON PUMPING GAS–GOOD INFO. I don’t know what you guys are paying for gasoline….Here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50per gallon. My line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years, so here are some tricks to get more of your money’s worth for every gallon.

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember thatall service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. Thecolder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening….yourgallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you’re filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see thatthetrigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that arecreated while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you’re getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zeroclearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up–most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

Hope this will help you get the most value for your money. DO SHARE THESE TIPS WITH OTHERS…

Have A Blessed Day
–from Chris T.

Cottington

BOYD COTTINGTON SLIPS ON SALT–Gazing at images of Speed Week at Bonneville one might think the surface an impenetrable layer of white salt. In fact the salt is a relatively thin crust floating on a lake of mud. Boyd Coddington and accompanying American Hot Rod television crew found this out the hard way when their white whale of an RV broke through the salt on the return road.

The first two wreckers called in were mired attempting to extract the RV. The legendary Big Blue was summoned to sort out the mess, but it too ended up askew in the landscape.

Three tow trucks and a crew minivan driven into a taut steel cable later, a fourth tow truck packing three rear axles finally managed to unearth the RV, and the fallen tow trucks. One of the drivers was overheard lamenting, “From hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee!”

AIH UPDATES TEXAS CHOPPER FOR ’08– WIDELY credited with “making Chopper styling available to the masses”, 2008 will see American IronHorse introduce the most extensive re-design of its top-selling Texas Chopper model since the bike first appeared.

Taking the 300 fat rear end of its Slammer model as a start point, VP New Product Development Jeff Long has come up with a new design that he says “brings a more contemporary look and feel to the bike. The overall effect is of a very smooth, more curvy design, with ultra-clean lines in which every area of the bike flows naturally from and into the next. We are very happy with what we have achieved and feel sure our dealers and their customers will love the new Texas Chopper”.

Featuring a heavy gauge, arced single front downtube with 8 inches of stretch, 4 inches of stretch in the top tube and 42 degrees of rake, thanks to an additional 4 degrees created by crested triple trees, the curved look is repeated in an all new gas tank design.

“We have retained the patented fuel delivery system from the old tank design, but whereas that was a super-straight look, the new tank is much more curved, and that repeats into the drop seat and the stretched out and arced swingarm.

“Having the belt outside, and with the better crown that the 300 tire has, the ridability of the bike is fantastic and is a very nimble feeling ride. It feels much more like a 240 or even a 200,” Long said.

The engine is the carbureted S&S 111 inch Sidewinder Plus. The rear wheel is an 18 incher, the 2:1 exhaust has integral heat shields, the 6-speed close ratio RSD transmission gets a chromed hydraulic “easy pull” clutch, and the company says that they offer “limitless paint designs, 18 base colors and three wheel styles” among the selection of customer options.

Bonneville 1

GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT FROM WOLFGANG PUBLICATIONS– Motorcyclists have always been interested in Bonneville, but fueled by the movie, World’s Fastest Indian, that interest has never been more intense than it is now. Over 150 bikes make the salt their home for one week in September. Those bikes range from Bikernet’s Assalt Weapan, small-budget, small displacement entries, to the very professional and expensive streamliners of companies like Bub and Kawasaki.

Yet, the energy that makes Bonneville work isn’t gasoline, it’s the drive of the teams, each trying to break a record or simply meet a self-imposed goal. Well-known photographer Horst R?sler captures the magic of Bonneville: The bikes, the limitless salt, the sunburned faces of crew and riders, they’re all here, printed on 144 pages of high quality paper and bound as a hardcover book. A book that deserves a place on the coffee table or shelf of any true motorcycle enthusiast. 144 pages, over 200 images, hardcover.

THE BIKERNET TATTOO CODE–Being a teenager and getting a tattoo seem to go hand in hand these days. I wasn’t surprised when one of my daughter’s friends showed me a delicate little Japanese symbol on her hip.

“Please don’t tell my parents,” she begged.

“I won’t,” I promised. “By the way, what does that stand for?”

“Honesty,” she said.

SIX FINALISTS POSTED FOR ONLINE VOTING IN THE HARLEY-DAVIDSON “GET DOWN TO DAYTONA” CONTEST– MILWAUKEE (November 28, 2007) – Six inspiring finalists in Harley-Davidson’s Get Down to Daytona contest have been chosen and posted online today at www.harley-davidson.com/womensride for online viewer voting to begin. Visitors to the site can view each video and vote on their favorite to help send that woman rider and a guest to Daytona Bike Week ’08. Voting will end December 12, 2007, and three winners will be announced December 14.

More than 200 videos were submitted from a variety of women, all with interesting stories to tell. The six finalists’ videos show an assortment of experiences, such as a daughter and father reunited through riding after years of separation, a sister thanking her brother for inspiring her to ride, and a sisterly bond where the road is their escape from illness and the worry of being single moms. Also, see a daughter who is reminded of her father’s “no fear” message when she’s almost ready to give up, and a woman who thanks her boyfriend for helping fulfill a lifelong dream by grabbing the handlebars of her own Harley. Finally, see two friends who encouraged each other to ride and were there for each other each step of the way to becoming experienced riders.

The six finalists are: Carol Dicicco from Chalfont, Pa.; Kimberly Ryon from Harford, Pa.; Teresa Weston from Hermitage, Tenn.; Tonya Lamia from Rockford, Ill.; Shelli Strand from Birch Run, Mich.; and Jennifer Thorne from Mt. Pleasant, Pa.

The three women with the most votes will receive an expense paid road trip for two from Atlanta to Daytona with Karen Davidson, great-granddaughter of William A. Davidson, one of the Company’s founders, as well as three nights stay in Daytona, just in time for Bike Week.

Harley-Davidson announced the Get Down to Daytona contest on October 1, and women had until November 15 to submit videos about their greatest motorcycle mentor story. The videos are 90 seconds or less, and give a woman a chance to thank her mentor for helping her start her motorcycle journey, improve her confidence and riding skills or take on new challenges on a motorcycle.

Men and women are allowed to vote once per day, so pick your favorite and help her win a road trip to remember! But don’t just vote. Check out the other interesting links such as Direct from Daytona including video coverage from this year’s Bike Week, or mentor tips on how to become a motorcycle mentor.
