But on this particular weekend, Lower took the Hawaya Racing Pro Fuel win against veteran racer Rocky Jackson. Lower took the tree .077 to .119 and stayed out front for the 7.78 to 7.96 win. “We tore up a lot of stuff yesterday, but we were up all night getting it back together, and it paid off,” said Lower, who rides Tyler Wilson’s old bike—freshly unwrapped and clear-coated. “I couldn’t have done it without my crew,” continued the General Motors retiree. “Mike Romine helps me with the bike and helps me maintain it, Ricky ‘Grizz’ Lee, and my girlfriend Jen Worley. We had a lot of family here because it is a close race, and everybody kind of pitched in and we got it done. And other racers helped a lot because they had the parts. “I also wanna thank Buddy Foss and Janette Thornley, they helped me out a lot. And Jack Romine also.” Charging Charley Douglass has a bike to be reckoned with, taking a decisive GMS Racing Engines Xtreme Outlaw win in an all-turbo final. Douglass calmly gave up .058 at the tree to opponent Dwayne “Smokey” Gee before throwing down near-apocalyptic numbers on his way to a winning 7.87 at 177.39 mph. Depending on who you talk to, that pass ranks among the top three or four no-bar Harley passes of all-time—and on a still-new combination. “I believe I’m third behind Gregg Dahl’s 7.62 or 3 and Andy Simon Sr.’s 7.70 at 182, said Douglass. Then comes Stacey Bortz at 7.90, Mike Motto at 7.92, and Stephane Crete’s 7.98. Dahl stakes a claim as consistency king with “Ten passes in the .60s in two weeks on local non-pro prep.” “My Outlaw Xtreme turbo bike has been a very trying experiment,” admitted Douglass, who’s made 15 quarter mile passes on it to date. “I still have plenty more power to attempt to hook up. “I started the weekend with T-n-T on Friday with no good passes. I struggled trying to keep the rear tire from smoking about ten feet from the starting line. I smoked one clutch pack Saturday trying to take as much clutch out as I could. “Sunday morning I tried another combination and burnt the second clutch pack of the weekend. Going into first round of eliminations Sunday, I put a fresh Energy One Clutches clutch in and a new tune-up in the MaxxECU from Jesse Brown. We ran an 8.10 with a 1.306 60 foot, winning first round against Victor Gotay. Victor has helped me with tuning and clutch set-up since the end of last year. “So, I had Jesse tweak the tune-up some and we ran 7.873 at 177 mph in the final against Dwayne. That was my first 7 second pass! “This was an emotional weekend for the Douglass Racing team. A very good friend of ours, Steve Allstaedt, was laid to rest on Saturday, so this win was in honor of him. “I want to thank God for keeping me safe and sane. My wife Angel Douglass for being so supportive, I love you. My dad for being my teammate and best friend. My nephew Jacob for helping us at the track. Special thanks to the Ken Browne family for showing everyone a Harley could run with a turbo. “My youngest daughter, son in-law, and two of my granddaughters spent Saturday with me at the track and that was great also. My “Brother ” Ralph also spent the weekend with us.” Douglass continued to thank Energy One Clutches, Axtell Sales, Dan Daffner, CP-Carrillo, JB Tech Jesse Brown, Victor Gotay, Andy Simon Sr., SA Racing Steve Allstaedt, Advanced Sleeve, H-D of Lynchburg, Vreelands H-D, R&D Motorsports, Joe’s Parts, Xlxbhorsepower, Chad Hart, and Justin Collier. Jason Broski might have the best name in racing, but he most definitely has a quick, well sorted out, all-motor Bagger that stays firmly flat and planted from launch to finishline. Broski won Horsepower Inc. Pro Outlaw Bagger against Street Kingz racer Reggie “Hamma” Elliott. Hamma nailed Broski .017 to .062 at the tree, but Broski’s Kibblewhites were opening and closing at wicked pace to carry him to a winning 9.07 against Hamma’s 9.90. “It was a rollercoaster ride,” said Broski, who unloaded Friday with four 8 second passes in a row. That includes a side-by-side 8 second Bagger pass for only the second time and the first since 2020, according to Broski. “It was me and Victor Gotay, with him riding Dwayne Gee’s bike.” Broski reported that during Saturday qualifying, making no changes, his bike was losing ET every lap and 4 mph. “After sleeping on it, I made changes for Sunday’s eliminations. MPH instantly came back and ET started dropping.” In the hottest part of the day with density altitude in the 2800s, Broski made one more lap—an 8.94 that he says is a record-setting ET for an all-motor M8. “I’m always grateful for the support from Ward Performance, Kibblewhite Precision Machining, and Gardner Racing Concepts.” Broski also runner-upped to Street Kingz racer and number one qualifier Gee in MTC Pro Comp Outlaw. The Cronenberger name was omnipresent in AHDRA winners circles of the 2000s, and Brad Cronenberger brought it back at Milan with 11:50 and Universal Fleet & Tire 10.90 wins. The 10.90 win came against Chris Phipps in the final. Cronenberger took the tree by .032 against Phipps and ran closer to the number to boot. Against Cody Rozeski in the 11:50 final, Cronenberger took the tree by a whopping .092 and was able to coast in well over the index for the win. “I took a few years off (and) was racing off-road dirtbikes, because that was something I could get my son involved with, too,” said Brad. “I decided to come back out when I saw they were bringing the Junior Dragbikes back. I should have my son in there for Rockingham. “I really only signed up for the 10.90 class to try and get some seat time on my bike after not racing for so many years. I was fortunate to catch a few breaks along the way and managed to make my way through the ladder. “The 11.50 class, I ran a few 11.49s on qualifying day, so I knew I was close. I managed to have good reaction times all day and get another win. “I wanna thank my wife. She’s the one who convinced me to get back out there.” Louisiana racer Scott Tomsu qualified number one and won Super Stock and V-Twin Powersports Hot Rod Bagger, beating J. Clarks in the HRB final. John Price took the Zippers Performance Pro Modified win against George Futch, Kimberly DeShields beat Gary Douglass in the Pingel Modified final, number one qualifier John Terry took the Vreeland’s Harley-Davidson Super Gas 9.90 win over Clayton Danford, and C. Hayworth beat Heather Van Fleet in the Super Pro 10.30 final. L. Stevens won Sunday’s Eliminator final against N. Messina, while Stephen Lacy won on Saturday. Saturday’s Trophy class winner was C. Tipping. The coolest thing that happened all weekend? That would be the return of Junior Dragbikes and the many laps made by the Hines brothers. More of this please! MRF: 38th Annual Meeting of the Minds

Those words, sung by Janis Joplin over fifty years ago, were a generation’s anthem. Yet, there is a lot more to losing freedom than the catchy lyrics of a song. In fact, losing freedom is easier than defending and keeping it.
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation takes seriously the quest to protect the freedoms that motorcyclists sometimes take for granted. A lobbying team with a never-ending presence on Capitol Hill. A definitive commitment to grassroots activism with the MRF’s annual Bikers Inside the Beltway. And the annual Meeting of the Minds – nearly forty years of bringing bikers’ rights advocates together to enhance their organizational and legislative skills.
To the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, freedom is not just another word for nothing left to lose. Promoting freedom is the core of the MRF’s existence. The annual Meeting of the Minds is where freedom is mainlined.
The 38th Annual Meeting of the Minds, scheduled for September 22-25 in Des Moines Iowa, will be a 3-day exercise in freedom enhancement. The event will take freedom way beyond “…nothing left to lose.”
The Meeting of the Minds – renewing old friendships and making new ones. The Meeting of the Minds – three days of nuts-and-bolts workshops to augment the tools needed to promote and protect the rights of all motorcyclists. Vance & Hines Expands New PCX Lineup with Return of the Pro Pipe and Debut of Bagger Race Replica System
Santa Fe Springs CA – Vance & Hines, which earlier this week announced its innovative new PCX (Power Chamber Exhaust) technology, is now adding two new 2-into-1 exhaust systems to their product line. The introduction includes the return of the ultra-popular Pro Pipe 2-into-1 exhaust system and a system inspired by the one used on the company’s King of the Baggers racers, a series that has inspired a new level of custom and performance in Harley-Davidson touring bikes. PCX technology ensures that these Vance & Hines systems meet all EPA emissions criteria.
Pro Pipe is a classic design that has twenty years of evolution and improvement built into its return to market. It has all the ingredients for making power: stepped headers, an oversized collector and long megaphone muffler. The new generation Pro Pipe now features the innovative PCX™ technology, which integrates a chambered high-flow catalyst in the megaphone for a bigger boost in torque and a more robust rumble of a big V-Twin motor. The placement of the catalyst deeper into the muffler moves heat away from the rider and improves rider comfort.
The Pro Pipe system fits Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Touring (2017-2022) and Softail (2018-2022) models, as well as late model Twin Cam Touring models (2010-2016).
The Vance & Hines Hi-Output RR exhaust system comes directly out of the development work done for the riders in the King of the Baggers class of the MotoAmerica Road Racing Championships. Constructed of high grade, 304 stainless steel, the hand TIG welded headers of the Hi-Output RR step from 1.75″ to 1.875″ to 2.0″ and feed into the same oversized collector used on the race exhaust system. The collector is even rotated to add extra ground clearance to enable steeper lean angles through the turns. Finishing off the system is the Vance & Hines mid-length 4″ Hi-Output megaphone muffler featuring the same laser-cut riveted badge as the race system. The consumer version of the system includes PCX technology using a chambered, high flow catalyst which increases torque, especially at mid-range RPMs.
The Hi-Output RR system fits Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Touring models (2017-2022). An optional accessory heat shield kit will also be available.

If you’re rolling into the majestic black hills for the rally, feel free to drop me a line with your thoughts: Bandit@bikernet.com. Tell me how many years you’ve been coming and why. Or tell me how you felt about the Rally or the ride this year.
Since I’m in the industry and have been involved since 1979. I’ve been coming and riding out since 1987 and now I’ve lived in the region for 2.5 years. I sorta have my reasons for being here. Since moving to Sturgis, the rally experience has changed for me. I’m helping Marilyn with her show activities. That includes S&S, Paughco and Baker drivetrain. I’ll sign books at the Builders Breakfast which supports All Kids Ride.
I will attend several Hamster rides including one for fallen brothers. I plan to check out the new Saddlemen Ranch, and I’m involved with the Sturgis Hall of Fame Breakfast and will introduce new inductee, the master of gel seats, Tom Seymour. Of course, I will also check out Michael Lichters Motorcycles and Art Exhibit. He does a helluva job.
That’s not all, we are preparing for the run to Bonneville this year, later this month. Micah McCloskey, the pilot, is riding into the Black Hills from Auburn, California and we will spend a day, or part of a day tinkering with the Salt Torpedo. Hang on for another report in the news.
I’m hoping to meet and spend some time with my grandson, who is riding out from LA with Dr. Hamster.
Two days ago, I spent most of the day fixing a brother’s old Softail and yesterday another long-distance rider called. He broke his drive belt and was looking for a shop. I steered him to Dakota V-Twin, Randy Cramer’s pristine shop in Spearfish. Randy is all set up for Dyno tuning. And yesterday I stopped at Sasha’s Cycles in Sturgis, a vintage shop, to see if he had a front brake cable and lever for the ’48 UL in the shop.
I heard from Mike Taylor, the boss of Barnett’s Cables today. They are set up next to the Sturgis community center and Chance can make any cable I need. There’s more, but I better hit the news:

We replaced the battery and discovered our Ctek charger wasn’t working properly. I will send it in for checking today. With the battery charged I checked the controls and attempted to start the beast. It wouldn’t start. No apparent spark. I started chasing the power source.
Cabana Dan and I installed the new balanced rear wheel with a fresh time from Deadwood Custom Cycles, but we weren’t happy with the brake caliper alignment and I ordered shims from McMaster Carr. They arrive and we will tackle alignment tomorrow.
I discovered a bad ground, although we made sure we had extra grounds because of the rubber mounted JIMS driveline. I solved the issue and the monster fired to life immediately. I will run a direct ground from the ignition system to the battery tomorrow.

MIC members, through the association’s latest retail sales report, are now getting a detailed look at sales performance for the industry at the end of second quarter. But let’s take a step back and look at some data over the years.
When you compare this year’s sales performance to the same period in 2019, the last year before the pandemic, sales are up in every category:
Scooter: 18 Percent Increase
On-Highway: 3.8 Percent Increase
Dual: 63.7 Percent Increase
Off-Highway: 40.7 Percent Increase
Here’s where it gets really interesting. Dual-purpose sales have continuous YOY growth since 2016 and impressively, the Q2 2022 sales volume is the highest quarter in the history of the MIC Retail Sales Reporting System for this segment. The off-highway category is also on a sales tear; YTD 2022 sales are the third highest since 2008 (with only 2020 and 2021 outperforming).
Fuel prices are expected to remain high, though they have eased slightly since the historic highs we experienced in May and June. During previous spikes in fuel prices, our industry saw an influx of new and returning riders seeking an efficient commuting alternative. With two years of increased sales, can we leverage this spike in fuel prices to attract even more new riders, while keeping the tens of thousands of new riders who purchased during the pandemic riding?
Will increased fuel prices incentivize riders to take their bikes out of the garage more often and encourage newer riders to keep riding, helping to build more lifelong riders?
Our team is committed to innovating and developing ways to support our membership and the entire industry, with a strong focus on inspiring new riders and keeping the riders we do have riding and engaged. This includes spearheading initiatives for our industry to accomplish together. While there are several examples, I’d like to share updates on two programs.
In light of the growing popularity of the dual-purpose category, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation created the AdventureBike RiderCourse. This course will help new owners get the most out of their bikes by teaching them fundamental dirt-riding skills so they can gain the confidence to take their bikes off-road. Additionally, this fall we are launching a national campaign and a new comprehensive website at RideWithUs.com.

Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar), Alex Marquez (LCR Honda Castrol) and Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) return to the demanding Silverstone track for the British Grand Prix, round twelfth of the 2022 MotoGP World Championship season.
The British round of the World Championship was held at the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy between 1949 and 1976 on the legendary 60.7 km public road course. The first winner in the former 500 cc premier class was British rider Harold Daniel on a Norton.
The Isle of Man TT retained its status as a World Championship event until 1976. The British round, already as British GP, was held in 1977 at the Silverstone circuit, a permanent 4.7 km track built on an air base of World War II.
From 1987 the British GP moved to the technical and winding Donington Park, a 4,023-meter track that hosted the event until the 2009 season. From 2010 onwards, the British GP returned to a renovated Silverstone with a longer perimeter of 5.9 km, hosting the event until today. Since then, the British GP has been cancelled in 2018 due to faulty resurfacing unable to drain rainwater and in 2020 due to the global health emergency.
The biggest winner of the British GP at Silverstone in the 500 cc era (1977-1986) was the American Kenny Roberts, with three victories with Yamaha in 1978, 1979 and 1983. With two wins stands Randy Mamola (1980 and 1984), followed by the single wins of Pat Hennen (1977), Jack Middelburg (1981), Franco Uncini (1982), Freddie Spencer (1985) and Wayne Gardner (1986).
In the British GP period at Donington Park (1987-2009) under the 500cc (until 2001) and MotoGP (from 2002 to 2009) regulations, the most successful rider was Valentino Rossi, with five victories (2000, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005), followed by Kevin Schwantz with four (1989, 1990, 1991 and 1994), Mick Doohan’s three wins (1995-1997) and Casey Stoner’s two victories (2007 and 2008).
Focusing on the modern MotoGP era at Silverstone (2010-2021), the biggest winner has been Jorge Lorenzo with three victories (2010, 2012 and 2013), followed by the single wins of Casey Stoner (2011), Marc Marquez (2014), Valentino Rossi (2015), Maverick Viñales (2016), Andrea Dovizioso (2017), Alex Rins (2019) and Fabio Quartararo (2021).
By manufacturers, the biggest British GP winner (whether at Silverstone or Donington Park, in 500 cc or MotoGP classes) has been Honda with 16 victories, followed by Yamaha with 14, Suzuki with 10 and Ducati with 3 wins.
The king of MotoGP pole position at Silverstone from 2010 onwards has been Marc Marquez with 5 poles (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2019), followed by Jorge Lorenzo’s two (2010 and 2018) and the single poles of Casey Stoner (2011), Alvaro Bautista (2012), home hero Cal Cruthlow (2016) and Pol Espargaro (2021).
In the modern era the fastest race lap has gone to Marc Marquez on three occasions (2014, 2017 and 2019), followed by the two of Jorge Lorenzo (2010 and 2012), Nicky Hayden (2011), Dani Pedrosa (2013), Valentino Rossi (2015), Maverick Viñales (2016) and Fabio Quartararo (2021).
D&D Machine was one of the first really well built custom springers I remember. I think D&D may have become Jammer.
Of course, Paugho made good springers and may have supplied parts to other manufacturers. W&W was a good source as well.
I’ve always liked the looks of the girder, but have never personally owned one. I stick to telescopic front ends. The Earl’s front fork seems more like a reversed swingarm than a springer to me, though they have a loyal following and work very well on sidecar rigs. I suppose the leaf spring front forks count as springers as well.

Washington D.C. — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened a special investigation into the crash of a 2020 Tesla Model 3 vehicle that killed a motorcyclist in Utah. The driver of the car told police the vehicle was using Autopilot, an advanced driver assistance system that handles some driving tasks. Since 2016, NHTSA has opened 38 special investigations of crashes involving Tesla vehicles and where advanced driver assistance systems such as Autopilot were suspected of being used. A total of 19 crash deaths have been reported in those Tesla-related investigations, including the most recent fatal Utah crash.
The Utah Department of Public Safety said a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling in the HOV lane southbound on I-15 near Draper, Utah, at 1:09 a.m. when a Tesla collided with the back of the motorcycle, which threw the rider from the bike. The 34-year-old rider suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. DPS said “the driver advised he had the Autopilot setting on” and “did not see the motorcyclist.”
Recently, NHTSA said it has opened a special investigation into a crash that killed a motorcyclist in California. Media reports said a 48-year-old motorcyclist was killed on July 7 after a collision with a 2021 Tesla Model Y on the Riverside Freeway. NHTSA typically opens more than 100 special crash investigations annually into emerging technologies and other potential auto safety issues that have, for instance, previously helped to develop safety rules on airbags. In June, NHTSA upgraded its defect investigation into 830,000 Tesla vehicles with Autopilot, a required step before it could seek a recall. Tesla, which has disbanded its press office, did not respond to a request for comment.

Paris, France — The wait was long, but the requirement for a periodical technical inspection for motorcycles has been repealed. The decree “Removes the obligation of a technical inspection of motorized vehicles with two or three wheels and motorized quadricycles.” The French Federation of Angry Bikers and the French Motorcycling Federation have been working on this issue for more than ten years.
The European directive of 2014 first raised the possibility of repealing the technical inspection for powered two-wheelers if measures promoting road safety were adopted. Six alternatives had been sent to the European Commission, some of which have already taken effect. These include:
Installation of sound emission control radars and penalties for non-approved and/or tampered exhaust pipes.
Better communication on the safety of two-wheelers, particularly in terms of equipment.
Include the issues related to two and three wheels in the Departmental Road Safety Action Plans.
Integration of the issue of the safety of powered two-wheeler users when passing the B permit and adding a program on maintenance, eco-driving and noise when passing the A1 and A2 permits.

Fong & Roland Sands Design Capture First King of the Baggers Win
Indian Motorcycle Racing, presented by Mission Foods, captured two King of the Baggers podium positions at Brainerd International Raceway. Privateer Bobby Fong, piloting Steve Delorenzi’s Sacramento Mile S&S-built RSD Indian Challenger, secured his first-career King on the Baggers win, while Indian Motorcycle Racing factory rider Tyler O’Hara rounded out the podium with a third-place finish.
The sixth King of the Baggers event of the season was nothing short of dramatic, as a red-flag restart rescheduled the event to end of the day and shortened it to five laps. Though during competition, rain on turn 3-4 ultimately caused race officials to call the race after just three laps.
Despite starting from the back row, Fong fought hard during the first lap to reach second. Without hesitation, Fong then made an aggressive move, as he dove inside and stood up O’Hara to make the pass and capture the lead and secure his first-ever King of the Baggers win.
“Congrats to Bobby and RSD on their first win. It was a well-deserved victory as the RSD race team works extremely hard to ensure those Indian Challengers are dialed-in and ready for competition,” said Gary Gray, Vice President Racing, Service & Technology. “This has been fun, neck-and-neck battle throughout the entire season. With one race remaining, it’s all on the line, and we couldn’t be any more excited to head to New Jersey and give it all we got.”

Dean was very well known in the Hollywood community and provided his services to movies such as Cycle Savages 1969, The Naked Angels, and The Wild Angels with Peter Fonda.

Harley-Davidson, Inc. (NYSE:HOG) today reported second quarter results—
Second Quarter 2022 Summary of Results
Global motorcycle shipments were adversely impacted (down 15 percent in Q2) by the approximately two-week production suspension caused by a regulatory compliance matter at a third-party supplier.
HDMC Revenue down 5 percent with global pricing and growth within Apparel offsetting much of the negative impact from the temporary production suspension.
HDMC Operating Income margin of 15.1 percent, was up 1.2 points versus last year; pricing, lower operating expense and lower EU tariffs offset the impact of the suspension.
HDFS Operating Income decline of 9 percent was driven by the continued normalization of credit losses in-line with expectations.
GAAP diluted EPS of $1.46 was up 10 percent vs last year; Harley-Davidson repurchased $64 million of shares (or 1.7 million shares) on a discretionary basis in Q2.

Pickerington, Ohio — The votes have been tallied, and the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame is proud to announce the six inductees to be honored during the 2022 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Oct. 28 in Pickerington, Ohio. The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Class of 2022 is Kenny Coolbeth, Greg Hancock, Effie Hotchkiss, Sandy Kosman, Ben Spies and James Stewart.
The induction ceremony will include a cocktail reception at the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame followed by dinner and the induction ceremony at the nearby Violet Township Event Center on Friday evening, with the following day to include an Open House and Class of 2022 installation exhibit in the AMA Hall of Fame Museum on the AMA campus.
Hall of Fame inductees are selected from eight areas of influence: Ambassadors/Industry, Design/Engineering, Dirt Track, Leadership/Motorcycle Rights, Motocross/Supercross, Off-Road, Road Racing and Specialty Competition.
Pickerington, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association’s Sound Test Kit Program is officially open for 2022 applications. The program is administered by the AMA’s Government Relations Department and provides kits to AMA Districts, club members, race organizers and others who educate riders about sound levels. The kit contains a Type 2 sound meter, a tachometer, training materials, a spark-arrestor probe, personal protective equipment and a storage case.

I did a lot of the fabrication on this bike like the headlight bracket, peg mounts, foot controls, exhaust, handlebars, sissybar, passenger pegs, clutch linkage, clutch release arm, jockey shift lever, oil lines and more stuff that I’m forgetting about.

New Road Safety Report Helps Raise Awareness Among Cannabis-Users Who Drive

After a number of fatal automobile accidents involving drivers testing positive for cannabis during the pandemic in the United States, the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), Responsibility.org, and the National Alliance to Stop Impaired Driving (NASID) released a new report that provides guidance on how State Highway Safety Offices (SHSOs) can better communicate with cannabis consumers and advance traffic safety outreach.
Since recreational cannabis became legal in some states, its use has increased significantly. “In 2019, 18% of people aged 12 and older in the U.S. reported using cannabis in the past year, up from 11% in 2002,” according to the GHSA.
As cannabis becomes more popular and the call for federal legalization increases, it is extremely necessary for drivers who use cannabis to drive safely, hence the need for effective public outreach and education.
A survey by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that “95% of people say driving above the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit is very or extremely dangerous, but only 69% believe driving is dangerous within the first hour of using cannabis.”
According to the NHTSA, cannabis use is playing a growing role in road traffic deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic. “33% of drivers involved in fatal crashes had tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in their system, a significant increase from 21% before the pandemic,” indicated an NHTSA report.

MIC ALERT–Members Called on to Confront the PFAS Problem for Powersports
The MIC wants more members for its new working group built to examine PFAS legislation and proposals and develop a comprehensive approach to federal and state regulations that could forever change manufacturing across the industry.
“We’re calling on MIC members with expertise and vested interests to contact us about joining our new PFAS working group,” said Eric Barnes, MIC technical programs vice president. “PFAS presents a major powersports industry challenge, and whether you’re an OE, aftermarket, or riding gear manufacturer, you must learn about government PFAS proposals and start looking for ways to replace PFAS in products you sell.”

I can now finish the old 4-speed Knuckle/Pan/Shovel clutch tech. I’ve been working on these for 50 years, and I still learned a lot.
I’m also installing a spin-on oil filter on the Pandemic and fixed the seat springs. This puppy leaked out of the top, so we made a funky inner-tube gasket.

With a local rider who rides 45 Trikes, we are going to put together an article on dealing with rust.
I need to go to Quick Stickers tomorrow in Spearfish and pick up our stickers. Our number is now 5 and I like it.
Salt Torpedo shirts are approved and ordered. I’m working with Alpine in Spearfish and they’ve done a helluva job.
Did I mention these locking flat or concave washers last week. John brought over a case and told me in no uncertain terms, “Fuck split ring lock washers.”
I’m trying these out.
I rode the UL out of Deadwood in the dead of night passed dead dear in the road. It ran like a top. I’m going to install a front brake as soon as the dust settles.
Sometimes I just want to stay in the shop and tinker.
Don’t get stressed about anything. Erika, Son’s wife is helping me focus on changing my thoughts. Don’t ask me if it’s working.

I replied, “NO, just want to know when we are leaving and are expecting to get back.”
Next message “I will let you know in a couple of days.”
A Trampster Ride will have a starting date and a tentative return date. It will also have a destination, but not the shortest route to it.

Racing so nice they’re doing it twice. The Midwest’s largest motorcycle drag racing series—NHDRO—is coming right down the return road to the head of Edgewater Sports Park’s staging lanes for the Summer Nationals presented by Page Racing on August 5-7.
NHDRO’s three races in one weekend format paid off well when the recent July Nationals presented by APE Raceparts faced a Sunday rainout. Making racing economical by giving competitors three days of racing at every event meant that two days of NHDRO Big Checks had already been distributed. And what with racing right here centrally in Ohio, NHDRO is delivering more smiles per mile of travel to motorcycle drag racers.
Friday night is Shootout time, with NHDRO Delay Box, No-Box, Road Course, Schnitz Racing Top Gas, No-Time/Grudge, and 55-and-older Shootouts.
A whole new program of NHDRO points racing starts with MPS Pro ET and Kevin Dennis Insurance Street ET timed runs at 9:00 am on Saturday—and repeats on Sunday for two complete days of class racing following Friday’s full slate of Shootouts—three full days of competition for the cost of one drive.
Schnitz Racing Top Gas, Advanced Sleeve Dirty 30, MTC Super Comp, M2.Shocks 8.70 Quick Street, Pro Ultra 4.60, Pro Street, MPS Pro ET and Kevin Dennis Insurance Street ET will all see two Big Checks apiece handed out this weekend, along with a second Road Course Shootout on Saturday. VooDoo Grudge will entertain on until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights as well
Winners and runner-ups from last time at Edgewater are a virtual “who’s who” of Midwestern and National motorcycle drag racing superstars: Ohio’s multi-time champ Jeremy Teasley, Edgewater regular Jeremy England, Defiance’s gizmo wizard Greg Mallett, Quick Street season champion Marty White, Iowa wheelie bar legends Tom and Joe Klemme, Cleveland no-bar hitman Kevin Adams, Jeremy Hines Jr., Donnie Emerson, Rylan Rowe, Jim “Just a Swangin’” Swanger, B.J. Evans, Roger Wilhelm, Dave Beshara, Tom Guzan, Jaden Hall, Big Joe Holt, Chad Fleener, Bill Deshong, Justin Hodge, Brandon Holland and more will all aim for similar or better results this time down the Edgewater 1320.
Weekend wristband is $45, Saturday after 5:00pm is $25. Arriving on a motorcycle after 5:00pm on Saturday? Pay only $10 per person.
