Tips for the Road From the Wandering Sparrow

The following post is reprinted from the J&P Cycles Blog. There are loads of great advice in this piece. Some you know, some that might surprise you. Either way, it’s info worth sharing and we though you’d enjoy this.   When it comes to riding I’ve found that if you’re not comfortable you are not happy. When you’re not happy it’s no fun to ride. Motorcycle manufacturers have designed bikes to be One Size Fits All and that’s where the problem lies. To be comfortable on your bike you must make the three points of contact work with the shape and size of your body to be more ergonomically comfortable. The three points of contact are of course your hands, feet and rear end. If the handlebar height and position is too low or forward you will soon experience pain in the lower neck. Highway pegs will make or break a long trip and a comfortable seat will guarantee a much longer ride. Once the three points are to your satisfaction you can take it your comfort level one step further. Soft hand grips are a big plus but most riders unknowingly will put a “death grip” on the throttle side and wonder why their fight hand is sore after a while. Best bang for the buck is the Throttle Rocker II for under 10 dollars. Not only does the Throttle Rocker II curve from front to rear it also curves from left to right for a perfect fit in the palm/heal of your hand. The Velcro mounting strap allows for use on any diameter grip. The Throttle Rocker II helps eliminate the dreaded “death grip” by improving the throttle leverage doing away with the need to grip so tight. It also works great on models with cruise control (my last

Hot IOMTT Action For Victory Motorcycles

Our friends at Victory Motorcycles posted the following report on their Isle Of Mann TT effort. Check it out and make sure to follow the races if you have access to the proper sports channels. Click here to find out. Victory Racing has charged forward in second practice for the SES TT Zero race with William Dunlop riding a 115.431mph lap. He was 2.6mph faster than in first practice and just 3.3mph behind John McGuinness who posted the fastest lap time of 19:04.307 (a 118.7mph lap) compared to William’s 19:36.707. It was also Victory Racing’s first ever sub 20-minute lap of the TT course in a week when rider Michael Dunlop broke the sub 17-minute mark in the Superbike race. William achieved a top speed of 165mph through Crosby and 158.6mph through the Sulby speed trap. He was the fastest through the Grandstand hitting 146.1mph. Team Manager, Brian Wismann, said: “I’m glad to be talking about speeds in the teens now, and not only are we in the teens we are now also fully below the 20 minute mark. We were also just one mph behind Bruce Anstey on the Mugen, who posted a 116.29mph lap – we are feeling very competitive.” Subtle changes to the Victory RR bike for this practice included an improvement to the final drive gearing, a pressure change in the Metzeler RaceTec K2 tyres and a front-end suspension tweak by the team at K-Tech Suspension. “We examined the data from the first practice and saw that we could improve on our corner speed,” Brian explains. “So this revised setup gave William more stability to run in faster through the corners.” Performance in the TT Zero comes down to the initial amount of electrical energy that can be stored on-board and then it’s down to the skill

2016 Isle of Man TT — A Year Of Records!

The 2016 Isle of Man TT got off to a blistering start today, with two riders in the Superbike TT breaking the outright lap record on the very first lap, from a standing start no less. The 2016 Isle of Man TT is off to a spectacular start with Ian Hutchinson breaking the absolute lap record, running at an average 132.892 mph. The record would be short-lived, as Michael Dunlop managed a 133.369 mph lap performance on his Hawk Racing BMW S1000RR. The first ever TT lap under 17 minutes, and the first ever lap that averaged over 133 mph, Dunlop’s performance during the Superbike TT was nothing short of dominant…and he wouldn’t stop there. Upping the ante on the second lap, Dunlop benefited from less fuel and put down another scorcher – a 133.393 mph lap. If weather at the Isle of Man continues to be as favorable during the race week, as it was during the practice week, we could easily see another outright record on the course during either the Superstock TT (Ian Hutchinson set an unofficial record earlier in the week on his Superstock machine) or during the final TT race of the fortnight, the Senior TT. Fans can expect to see hot laps from Michael Dunlop, Ian Hutchinson, or John McGuinness, as all three riders seem to have the speed for a 133 mph or more in them.

Skin and Bones – Tattoo Inspired Motorcycles and Art At The Buffalo Chip

Custom motorcycle craftsmen and tattoo artists study, research and work countless hours over many years, honing the skills required to become experts at their craft. The Sturgis Buffalo Chip® offers an exclusive look at some of the worlds’ most celebrated builders’ remarkable motorcycle creations as well as a handful of the motorcycling world’s most beloved artists and photographers in its “Motorcycles as Art” display. The 2016 exhibit, curated by eminent photographer Michael Lichter, is titled with the intriguing theme: “Skin and Bones – Tattoo Inspired Motorcycles and Art.” The exhibit is free to the public and will be open from Saturday, Aug. 6 through Friday, Aug. 12 in the Buffalo Chip’s Russ Brown Events Center. Over 30 masters of the motorcycle industry have accepted the challenge to build a bike befitting the theme for the exhibit. Each of these rolling metal sculptures will have theater lights focused on them as they are displayed atop elevated pedestals to better give guests an open view from every angle. “These builders reach deep, spending the time, exerting the effort and wielding the skills required to create a motorcycle masterpiece for this show,” said exhibit curator Michael Lichter. “The bikes for this exhibit not only exemplify the theme, but also reflect the builder’s own personality and experiences, much like a tattoo.” In addition to the magnificent display of motorcycles, the richly symbolic art of the late, well-known tattoo artist and oil painter Richie Pan (short for Panarra) will hang in the gallery alongside the works of eight additional mixed-media artists. Pan brought the oils of his paintings to rest in depictions of machines and people that evoke an aura of ink embedded in flesh. His love of everything motorcycle is evident not only in the subject matter and characteristic symbolism displayed in most of
