Conspicuity and Safer Riding

Conspicuity has long been touted as a means of making you safer while riding your motorcycle. Along with all the high visibility clothing, like Conspicuity’s See-Me and Super See-Me vests, advanced lighting systems for motorcycles have improved safety for motorcyclists. The Federal Government has recognized the importance of preventing motorcycle crashes by allowing modulating headlamps, following Europe’s lead. FMVSS 108 (49 CFR Part 571.108 S7.9. 4) allows motorcycle headlight modulation systems in all 50 states. “A headlamp on a motorcycle may be wired to modulate either the upper beam or the lower beam from its maximum intensity to a lesser intensity.” Read more.

The Denier’s Sunday Post for October 15, 2017

Hey, We live is such strange times. It’s like elementary school principles have taken over the academic and governmental world. They want everything to be safe and they want to control everything. They will make up any excuse. With helmet laws they used the public burden issue. It was bullshit. The 5-Ball factory racer is back in the shop thanks for Jay and his family, who hauled it back from Vegas. And now they use the planet as there excuse to control everything that rolls and even your barbecues. And anyone who disagrees is a denier. I know guys in the industry who make cams, who are afraid to say anything. The not-so-funny thing about all of this is the notion of a Free Society. At the end of the day if we recognize freedom, all these issues find balance. But when the bastards throw freedom out the window problems start. Click here to access the Sunday Post. Outlaw Bikernet Weekly News for October 12, 2017

Hey, We witness change everyday sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worst. For instance, I grew up in the ‘50s. My parents were violent and men were tough or died trying in WWII and Korea. We were outlaws. We didn’t have any inclination to have families. It was all about the next ride and adventure. Brothers rode, escaped, surfed, built hot rods, climbed mountains and dealt drugs. Maybe that’s why we have a severe homeless population. They had no desire for family or the trapping of what once was a restrictive prison. Maybe the pendulum has swung to the other side and young outlaws want families and all the trappings of comforts because it’s seen as fun and that’s a very good thing. But can us old outlaws understand? Click here to read the rest of the news,

Jared Mees Wins AFT Finals for 10th Victory of Season

In its return to professional flat track racing after more than 60 years away from the sport, Indian Motorcycle Racing swept the 2017 American Flat Track Championship. Aboard the brand-new Scout FTR750 premier race bike, the Indian Wrecking Crew, consisting of Jared Mees, Bryan Smith and Brad Baker, finished the 2017 season with 14 total wins, 37 podiums and six podium sweeps. Mees, the 2017 Grand National Champion, finished the season just as he started in March at the Daytona TT – on the top of the podium. The win at the American Flat Track Finals in Perris, Calf. was Mees’ 10th of the season and set a new single-season record with 17 total podiums. Through 18 races aboard the Scout FTR750, Mees earned himself a career year and his fourth Grand National Championship. “It’s been an unbelievable season with Indian Motorcycle. Since first testing the Scout FTR750 last year, I knew the bike was special and like nothing I’ve ever competed on,” said Mees. “I greatly appreciate all the love and support from my whole team, all the fans and of course my wife. It was a special season, and one I’ll look to top next year.” Mees’ Wrecking Crew teammates Smith and Baker finished second and third, respectively. Smith reached the podium nine times, with four wins, three runner-ups and two third-place finishes. Baker tallied 10 podiums, despite being out with an injury and unable to compete in the final two races. He earned five runner-ups and five third-place finishes. “Countless hours from an incredible team went into building the premier Scout FTR750 race bike. And early testing showed we had something special,” said Gary Gray, Vice President – Product for Indian.  “Much of the credit goes to the Indian Motorcycle Wrecking  Crew of Jared, Bryan and Brad. Harley-Davidson Is Trying to Cultivate Millennials While Catering to Loyalists

We thought we’d post this bit from AdWeek. An interesting read. What do you think? Ever wanted to hop on a Harley-Davidson Iron 883 motorcycle and weave through gridlocked Manhattan streets? How about hitting the expanse of historic Route 66 while feeling your tires on the asphalt and the wind against your skin? Turns out you can—at least virtually. Those scenarios are just two of the many available to players of the upcoming Ubisoft video game The Crew 2, an open-road racing adventure set to debut in March 2018. The game is one of the unconventional ways that Harley-Davidson, a 114-year-old legacy brand, is reaching out to millennials and women as it looks to broaden its consumer base beyond its core baby boomers. The Crew 2 is “gender agnostic,” and like its hit predecessor, The Crew—which has amassed 12 million players—is expected to appeal to young male and female gamers and potentially anyone with a passion for motor sports, said Stephane Jankowski, producer at Ubisoft’s Ivory Tower Studio, which created the franchise. “We used a lot of feedback from the community in developing the new game,” Jankowski said. “We’ve taken a sandbox approach where players can create their own stories and ask themselves, ‘What do I want to do today?’” Continue reading.

When Lions Roar…Again

Like some hulking artifacts from a lost civilization, you’re passing through canyons of steel shipping containers and rivers of railway tracks as you thread your way through an area of Los Angeles adjacent to Long Beach known as the Wilmington District. You could say buried under those artifacts is another “civilization,” one that was based on acceleration and terminal velocity. Sadly it has been long since paved over with… “Progress.” Once upon a time, specifically from October 1955-December1972, the ground shook not necessarily from the freight trains rumbling to and fro, but from hi-octane fed cars burning up the quarter mile on a famous all-American raceway called Lions Drag Strip that had been built on an abandoned train marshalling yard. While indeed it often sounded like a pride of lions was on the loose, the track was so named because of its sponsors, the equally famous Lions Clubs International who had collaborated with an L.A. judge in seeking a safe place for kids to vent their need for speed. Following the mantra, build it and they will come, some 10,000 young hotrod fans showed up for the first day of racing with some 300 cars taking up the challenge. Fortunately for all, Lions was expertly managed by the one and only Mickey Thompson, a name synonymous with motorsport. He also brought hi-energy showmanship, and in 1957 added night time lights to the raceway, something not seen before, therefore further increasing attendance. And it was all certified by the American Hot Rod Association (AHRA), in the process quickly earning the rep as one of the country’s top venues. Click here to read the full article.
