Tenacious XDA Competitors Win in the Summer Heat

This past weekend Maryland International Raceway hosted the 22nd annual WPGC Bike Fest with the XDA delivering the best motorcycle drag racing has to offer. The event featured Live music by New Impressionz, Baggers vs. Slingshots Sound Off, custom bike show, sound competition, huge vendor midway and a hot bikini contest!

The on-track action was star-studded as always, with over 700 entries tackling the MIR’s quarter mile. Racers showed up ready for serious competition and they weren’t letting the warm weather slow them down. With full fields and a variety of activities going down in the pits, there was non-stop action all weekend.

Orient Express Racing Pro Street
The Orient Express Racing Pro Street tuners had their A-game on this weekend in the brutal summer temperatures. Normally the performance numbers will suffer when the track temps are over 140 degrees and the air temperature is close to 100 degrees. But the evolution of this class showed this weekend as the tuners quickly adapted to the track and made it work.

“The track was not at its best this past weekend, stated XDA co-owner, Jason Miller. “I really have to give credit to the racers and tuners this weekend that were able to take a less than ideal combination and still deliver stellar performance numbers.”

Friday night, off the trailer, class points leader and champion Rodney Williford set the tone for the event putting a 6.423 on the scoreboards that would not be beat in qualifying or eliminations.

And despite the high temperatures half the class qualified under 6.68. Greg Wallace, Justin Shakir, and Darion Payne ran 6.461, 6.492, and 6.498 respectively.

During qualifying Shakir ran a 233.12 mph pass potentially setting a new XDA record. To back up the run and set the record he needed to make a run within 1% at 230.78 mph. He was unable to do that, but his current personal record still stands a 234.29 mph.

Curtis Ellerbe improved his record standing during qualifying moving up the Pro Street GOAT list from 7.323 to a 7.206.

Eliminations on Sunday kept the crowd in the stands entertained as the competition was intense every session. In round one Rodney Williford and Justin Shakir both ran in the forties with a 6.477 and 6.492. Blake Sander set a personal record of 221.67 to earn a spot on the Pro Street MPH GOAT list.

In round two Jason Dunigan took out Greg Wallace running a new personal record of 6.474 at 231.95 mph.

In the semi-final Rodney Williford stunned the crown when he went -.216 red against Darion Payne to end his reign of consecutive wins in Pro Street. Despite the red light, Williford reset his ET record to 6.372. And on this pass Payne reset his personal record running a 6.450 at 227.80 mph. Jason Dunigan took a win and a wild ride against Justin Shakir. Justin had problems off the line, but Dunigan didn’t want to take any chances letting him get back around so when his front tire started coming off the ground, he was hesitant to back off the throttle launching both wheels off the ground making it a wild pass to a win light.

In the final Payne and Dunigan were a well-matched pair for competition. But when the bulbs dropped, Payne went -.017 red sending Dunigan to his first XDA Pro Street winner’s circle, and his second with the MIROCK dynasty.

DME Racing Real Street
David Stewart continues his reign in the DME Racing Real Street as he earns more points to lock in his chase for the championship. Stewart took the number one qualifying position with a 7.463 and then went on to dominate taking wins over Mark Hylton and Brittany Bohne before facing Rickey Gadson in the final. Jeremy Teasley returned to Real Street this event but was quickly turned away when Rickey Gadson took a win over him in round one. Gadson had a bye in the semi-final and elected to break the beams after finding a problem with his bike. Gadson could not make it to the finals giving an automatic win to David Stewart. David Stewart broke the beams in the finals to officially declare his win, and in true sportsman style, reigning class champion Mark Hylton and his team helped push Stewart to the starting line and back.

MaxxECU Pro Xtreme
The MaxxECU Pro Xtreme fans were stunned Friday night when Ronnie Procopio put a 3.937 on the scoreboard right out of the gate. On Sunday Procopio took a win over Thomas Gunn in round one and earned a bye in round two to face John Collins in the final. Collins would take wins over Eran Pielert and Tyron Lemons. In the final it was a deadly close race as Procopio and Collins cut a .046 and .043 light respectively. They were side-by-side down the track as they had a photo finish crossing the finish line running a 4.061 and 4.069 with the win going to Procopio for the second time this season.

HTP Performance Super Stock
In HTP Performance Super Stock Curtis McDougald took the number one qualifying spot with an 8.789 to lead the class of pro hand clutch racers. And for the second event in a row Mike Davis and McDougald met in the final round. And like Déjà vu, McDougald took the win running an 8.920 to Davis’s 8.946. This was Davis’s fourth straight final round appearance this season. There can be nothing more frustrating than being so close to a win so many times. These hand clutch killers will be back at it next month for the 4th annual Bike Bash on August 26-28, 2022.

Vance & Hines 4.60
The Vance and Hines 4.60 Index class had a record turnout for Bike Fest with forty-seven bikes competing for the thirty-two bike field. Due to the increased turnout, XDA moved the qualifying field to forty bikes allowing more racers to enter competition on Sunday. Frank Christian led the charge in qualifying with a 4.601. The field was tight with the top forty bikes running within the 4.60 to 4.74 zone. Ron Bonitatis and Wes Hawkins both dominated their sides of the ladder to earn a spot in their first final round appearances of the season. Hawkins left the line first with a starting line advantage of .046 over Bonitatis’ .066 light. Bonitatis ran dead on with a 4.608, but the hole shot for Hawkins got him the win on his 4.626 run.

HTP Performance Grudge
Soaring temperatures didn’t stop the grudge racers as the Bulls showed up in force for the WPGC Bike Fest. The grudge racers and their fans turned up the volume Saturday night to give the Sound competition on the other side of the track a run for their money as the smack talking and dolla bills exchanged sides all night.

Boosted Bulls
Malcolm Phillips on ‘Billy Mays’ is leading the points in Boosted Bulls and was the favorite for the win Saturday night over Frankie Stotz on ‘Reddi-Wip.’ But when the bulbs dropped ‘Reddi-Wip’ shot out of the can straight down the track and ‘Billy Mays’ just couldn’t keep up. This was a redemption win for DME Racing and Stotz after his unfortunate high-speed crash in April.

APE Nitrous Bulls
Jeremy Teasley returned to XDA looking for action on ‘Unhinged’ in APE Nitrous Bulls. Teasley put the smack down on ‘No Drawers’ and ‘War Cry’ before going to work on ‘Bumpy Johnson2.0’ in the final. Gaige Herrera took wins over ‘Sho-Nuff’ and ‘Kill Shot’ before facing Teasley. In the Final Teasley made ‘Bumpy Johnson 2.0’ look weak as scoreboards lit up in his favor.

3 Sixty 5 Monster Bulls
In 3 Sixty 5 Monster Bulls Spencer Claycomb for the second time in a row had to face his teammate, Jason Herron in round one of competition. However, this time the tables turned and Claycomb took ‘Under the Influence’ to the final. After taking out his own bike ‘Tic Tok,’ he also took wins over ‘Leather Face’ and ‘Son of Sam’ before reaching the final to battle it out with David Martin on ‘Unknown.’ The final was easy work for Claycomb as he got out in front of Martin and turned on his win light for back-to-back win for his team. This win also moves him to the top of the championship points chase.

Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls
In Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls, Caleb Holt on ‘AM Performance’ made his first DMV Bulls appearance and no one could stop him as he cut down the smack talking round after round with wins over ‘Stunna 4 Vegas’, ‘Bud Light lime’ and ‘Rick James.’ And the final again Malcolm Phillips on ‘No Cap’ was another round of pure performance domination as Holt turned on another win light for his team.

Tommie’s Motorsports All Motor Bulls
The Tommie’s Motorsports All Motor Bulls put on show and didn’t let the heat slow down their performance on the track Friday night. David Fondon on ‘Bad Bitch’ slapped ‘Nasty Bastard’ with the win light in the final round and took the win.

1 Stop Speed 5.60
Robert Parker led the 1 Stop Speed 5.60 qualifying on Saturday with a 5.604 time over thirty-five other competitors. Dustin Lee who came into this event sitting number three in points made sure he took out all the heavy hitters on his way to the final where he met Michael Graves. Lee intimidated Graves on the starting line as he went -.252 red handing Lee the win and sending him to the winner’s circle giving him the points he needs to reach a championship with only two events left in the season.

Mickey Thompson Tires Top Sportsman
Mickey Thompson Tires Top Sportsman had a quick field despite the soaring temperatures. Ryan Burnell qualified number one with a 7.431, however he took a first round loss to the number thirty-two qualifier when he had problems on the track and ran almost two seconds off his dial-in time. Jeffrey Santin and Robin Procopio both qualified in the middle of the pack and earned their win lights for a final round showing. Procopio’s husband just won Pro Xtreme and she was determined to double up their winner’s circle photo. In the final, Procopio dialed an 8.22 and cut a .020 light, Santin dialed an 8.04 and cut a .051 light. Procopio turned on the win light with an 8.257 running closer to her dial than Santin’s 8.087 run.

MPS Racing Pro ET
Over a hundred and thirty racers entered Sunday’s MPS Racing Pro ET class to test their skills and earn that $5,000 payday. Jimmie Miller and Harvey Powell won seven rounds of competition to earn their final round spots. Miller last saw a Pro ET winner’s circle in 2019 and he was determined to get back there this weekend. Miller dialed an 8.10 and cut a .015 light, Powell dialed an 8.24 and cut a .037 light. As the two riders raced to the finish line, Miller lifted right before the finish line running an 8.115, and Powell didn’t lift enough as he broke running an 8.234 helping put Miller back in the winner’s circle.

Brock’s Performance Street ET
The Brock’s Performance Street ET class yielded action packed rounds as competitors were running close to their dials and giving the crowd a show on Sunday round after round. Montrell Johnson and Micheal McAllister both won six rounds to dominate their side of the ladder. Johnson dialed an 8.77 and McAllister a 10.84 for the final. McAllister left first with .077 reaction time, and Johnson cut his worst light of the day at .129. The two raced to the finish and neither racer was lifting! McAllister got their first but broke out with a 10.838 pass giving the win to Johnson who ran an 8.771. It was a great final round.

VooDoo Components Bracket Bash
The heat did not deter the VooDoo Component Bracket Bash with over 170 racers entering for a change at the $3,000 payout. Nick Hamlett and Mike Schulz both worked their way through seven rounds of tough competition to Saturday night to face off in the final. Hamlett dialed an 8.72 and Schulz an 8.63 making it a close actioned round. Hamlett left the line first with a .009 reaction time to Schulz’s .041 light. As the two raced down to the finish line they were side eyeing each other as they both lifted off the gas trying to take the finish the line without breaking out of their dial. Hamlett’s starting line advantage got him there first and he took the win with a .021 margin of victory running an 8.807 to Schulz’s 8.706.

Hard Times Parts & Service Gambler’s Race
It was back-to-back wins this weekend for Ben Knight in the Hard Times Parts & Service Gambler’s race. After taking a win last month, he fell right back in the win light groove and methodically picked off the competition round after round. In the final he faced Michael Parsons, but the work was made easy when Parsons went red to send Knight to another winner’s circle.

WPGC Bike Fest is Back and It’s Time to Party

On July 22-24, the Biggest Motorcycle Drag Race of the year returns with the 22nd annual WPGC Bike Fest at Maryland International Raceway in Mechanicsville, Maryland.

Over 700 Professional, Sportsman, and Grudge motorcycle drag racers will compete for over $80,000 in cash money at this event. But this event is more than just a drag race, the WPGC Bike Fest has something for everyone. Racing starts on Friday, then the volume cranks on Saturday and Sunday with an action-packed venue featuring something for everyone.

Live Bands
The WPGC stage will be jamming with DJ Flexx and DJ Akademics, plus a LIVE performance by one of the TOP bands in the DMV… New Impressionz!

Sound Competition and Custom Bike Show
Team Money Cycles will once again host their “Speed and Sound” Tour at this event on Sunday with a Sound Competition and Custom Bike Show. There will also be a “Baggers vs Slingshots” showdown on Saturday evening with Team SOS taking on SS Takeover and will bring in the crowd with the wildest custom bikes you have ever seen! Then on Sunday, the King of the Hill Bike Show and Sound Competition will take the main stage!

Beer Garden with Bikini Bartenders
The popular beer garden returns with plenty of ice-cold beer served by hot women in bikinis. No long walks to the concession stand; our Bikini Bartenders will be stationed close to the grandstands with your cold beers when you need them.

Bikini Contest
The Bikini Contest has been a part of the WPGC Bike Fest for over a decade and features the hottest girls of the DMV competing for bragging rights and cold hard cash! Hot Girls in Bikinis – Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!

Kids Playground
Maryland International Raceway allows children to get up close and check out the fastest motorcycles in the country, and the facility also has a fenced playground for the kids to run around and expel their energy during the event. Kids 11 and under get in free!

Orient Express Racing Pro Street
The Orient Express Pro Street class features 6-second, 220+mph bikes and XDA will have twenty on the property, including the two fastest racers in the World, Greg Wallace and Justin Shakir. Wallace holds the MPH record at 236.05, Shakir is right behind him at 234.29, and that’s on a street tire bike with no wheelie bars! You don’t want to miss this premier class as they light up the scoreboards.

DME Racing Real Street
The DME Racing 7-second, 190mph Real Street class is designed for street‐legal sportbikes with limited modifications and a hand clutch. Rickey Gadson took a win at the last race to boost his points standing into third place. But his road to a championship won’t be easy with class champions David Stewart and Mark Hylton standing in his way. The WPGC Bike Fest is the mid-season point, and these guys have a lot on the line.

MaxxECU Pro Xtreme
Imagine the 4.60 Index class on steroids with no index, heads up, first to the finish line, and no breakout. This is where you get the quickest and fastest 1/8 mile category in the XDA. MaxxECU Pro Xtreme returns for this event featuring the World’s quickest turbocharged, nitrous injected or injected nitro drag bikes. These machines are making 3 second passes, and you won’t want to miss the power they can throw down in only 660 feet.

HTP Performance Super Stock
HTP Performance Super Stock will show out on 4‐stroke naturally aspirated production motorcycles. This class features strict modification rules, stock wheelbase, stock motor, MR12 spec fuel, no air shifters, no dataloggers, etc. Whoever has the best clutch hand will rule the weekend. Darion Payne leads the class but this weekend he can be easily knocked off his throne by Mike Davis or Curtis McDougald. Caleb Holt and Silas Wood are also in contention for a championship if Payne can be overthrown this weekend.

Vance & Hines 4.60
Vance & Hines 4.60 class is the World’s quickest index class. The bikes in this 1/8th-mile sportsman index category make their four-second passes in a span of only 660 feet. With little margin for error, their reaction times at the starting line will make or break their run. Michael Stewart, Mac McAdams, Michael Ostrowski, and Kenny Cornell will be looking for round wins this weekend to climb the ladder to surpass points leader Ronald Procopio. The Vance & Hines 4.60 is an action-packed class to watch and bet on, both during qualifying and race day.

HTP Performance Grudge
The Saturday night HTP Performance Afterdark Underground Grudge program features the fearsome Running of the Bulls. These top tier grudge classes include Boosted Bulls (Turbo Bikes), APE Nitrous Bulls (Nitrous Bikes), 3 Sixty 5 Transport Monster Bulls (Heavyweights), and Tommie’s Motorsports DMV and All Motor Bulls. Grudge racing provides a lot of fast-paced action and excitement you’ll want to bet on. So don’t miss Saturday night’s program, where the drama before the race is just as exciting as the performance on the track.

1 Stop Speed 5.60
1 Stop Speed 5.60 is another competitive index category combining street legal and bar bikes. This class also has an added challenge of nailing a .400 Pro tree, and only running to the eighth mile, leaving no room for mistakes. Young gun Rico Brown is leading this class over tough competition eager to take the throne. This will be a make-or-break weekend for Brown as Nick Noble, Dustin Lee, and Carson Fields have a target on his back.

Mickey Thompson Tires Top Sportsman
The Mickey Thompson Tires Top Sportsman class features the quickest bracket bikes in the country! The 32-bike qualified field runs on a .500 full tree and will see bikes running ET’s from the low 7’s to the low 8’s. Over a hundred motorcycles will attempt to make this field so the competition on Sunday is brutal! Rob Hunnicutt leads by a mere eleven points, making it likely a new leader will emerge at the WPGC Bike Fest.

MPS Racing Pro ET
The MPS Racing Pro ET class has over a hundred entries at every race. This is the toughest ET class when considering all the variables a racer must overcome to make it to the winner’s circle. Not only will you have to earn at least seven rounds, but you will face a different type of bike setup every round leaving you very little room for error. Dustin Lee is currently leading the points, and he would like to keep it that way, as he does not yet have an XDA MPS Racing Pro ET championship trophy on his shelf. Keep your eyes on his competition this weekend because they will be hungry to earn round wins over him.

Brock’s Performance Street ET
The Brock’s Performance Street ET class is a sportsman class for street legal motorcycles only, and is great for new riders looking to get into the sport. If you ride your bike to the race to watch, why not try your hand on the track for only $65? Beginner’s luck could pay you $1,500 in cold hard cash. Mark Blake is currently leading the class by ten points. Derrick Milbourne is ten points behind him, and a syndicate of other racers could overtake the points lead this weekend by turning on more green lights than Blake.

And the opportunities don’t stop there for sportsman racers with the Friday night Hard Times Parts & Service Gambler’s race and the Saturday VooDoo Components Bracket Bash. So if you have a motorcycle, there will be plenty of on-track and off-track action this weekend to keep you entertained at this summer’s biggest motorcycle drag racing event in the nation!

XDA Racers Gear Up for A Mid-Season Showdown

On June 17-19, 2022 The XDA heads back to Maryland International Raceway located in Mechanicsville, Maryland for 5th annual FuelTech Superbike Showdown!

Round three in a six round series will feature the Orient Express Pro Street class running at speeds over 230 mph in only 6-seconds! Over 90 Professional riders, plus another 700+ Sportsman, and Grudge motorcycle racers who will compete for over $80,000 in cash purse at this event. This season XDA will payout over $500,000 in purse money along with a $130,000 contingency fund that spans all classes.

Next weekend’s Orient Express Racing Pro Street class will deliver another healthy round from the baddest street tire motorcycles in the world. These 650+ horsepower motorcycles running at speeds over 230mph in the quarter mile, in only 6-seconds will keep the excitement level high as this class is always looking for more performance.

Pro Street competitors are also battling for a spot at the 26th annual Haltech World Cup Finals presented by Wiseco at Maryland International Raceway on November 2-6, 2022. In points, XDA’s top ten finishers will earn a spot to compete in front of 50,000+ fans and win the $5,000 Pro Street Shootout sponsored by Platinum General Services. Currently qualified for WCF are Rodney Williford, Greg Wallace, Ryan Hable, Darion Payne, Gaige Herrera, Justin Shakir, Jason Dunigan, James Waugh, Jamie Lopes and Jordan Haase. Several racers will be fighting hard to bump into these coveted spots this weekend.

Saturday Night, the HTP Performance Afterdark Underground Grudge program will feature the “Running of the Bulls” Grudge Shootouts and all the Grudge Racing you can handle!

Serious Grudge racers have four different Championship points earning classes to choose from with XDA this season. Boosted Bulls (Turbo Bikes), APE Nitrous Bulls (Nitrous Bikes), 3 Sixty 5 Transport Monster Bulls (Heavyweights), and Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls (Introductory Class). There will also be an All Motor Bulls Shootout on Friday! XDA offers Grudge racers a world-class stage to show their performance with a consistent ‘on kill’ prepped racetrack and event schedule that you can set your watch to.

The DME Racing 7-second, 190mph Real Street class, is designed for street‐legal sportbikes with limited modifications and a hand clutch. Next weekend’s XDA Championship points chase will heat up as only seventeen points separate Ben Knight from his points lead over the class. Knight has two class champions, Mark Hylton and David Stewart working hard to gain ground and dethrone his modest lead. Rickey Gadson sits fourth in points and has the talent and determination to reach the top of the leader board this season. Come out next weekend and watch the action at Maryland International Raceway.

MaxxECU Pro Xtreme features the World’s quickest turbocharged, nitrous injected or injected nitro drag bikes. This is the quickest and fastest 1/8 mile category in the XDA and there is nothing better than first to the finish line, heads up racing. Class Champion Kevin Clarke returns to action this weekend for the first time this season. You won’t want to miss the horsepower they can throw down in only 660 feet, these bikes are big, powerful, and exciting to watch.

The stock wheelbase HTP Performance Super Stock class features strict modification rules, stock wheelbase, stock motor, MR12 spec fuel, no air shifters, no dataloggers, etc. Whoever has the best clutch hand will own this class. Darion Payne has been the class leader for the last two events with a forty-two point lead over the field of 4‐stroke naturally aspirated production machines. With the FuelTech Superbike Showdown being the halfway point of the season, racers need to make some moves to close the gap on Payne’s lead before it’s too late.

The Vance & Hines 4.60 class is the World’s quickest index class that originated with the XDA’s predecessor MIROCK back in 2013. The bikes in this popular 1/8th-mile sportsman index category make their four-second passes in a span of only 660 feet. With little margin for error, their reaction times at the starting line will make or break their runs. Mac McAdams is leading over forty-two competitors by a mere thirty-one points. The class veterans won’t be sitting idly by next weekend as the claws come out for the 2022 Championship points chase.

The XDA will additionally hold competition in SIX additional sportsman classes featuring 1 Stop Speed 5.60 Index, Mickey Thompson Tires Top Sportsman, VooDoo Components Bracket Bash, MPS Racing Pro ET, Brock’s Performance Street ET, and the Friday night Hard Times Parts & Service Gambler’s race. XDA offers up to $28,000 in guaranteed payouts for sportsman racers at each event, all while giving them a safe and professional environment to compete in.

XDA Racers Beat the Heat at the MTC Summer Nationals

The XDA’s 36th Annual MTC Engineering Summer Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park was hot on and off the track this past weekend, with temperatures in the high 90s.

XDA racers got the Trifecta in track prep at VMP’s world-renowned facility, with Tyler Crossnoe, Jimmy Bradshaw, and Jason Miller all on hand for this event. The track prep was on point and done right to keep the surface in optimal shape as the warm temperatures wreaked havoc on the racing surface.

Orient Express Racing Pro Street
Orient Express Racing Pro Street was incredible as the performance numbers were shocking for this unseasonably warm event where tack temperatures exceeded 140 degrees. Rodney Williford and Justin Shakir lead qualifying with big numbers. Williford ran a 6.415 at 232.03 mph to qualify number one, followed by Shakir with a 6.484 at 230.57 mph.

In qualifying Gaige Herrera on the only nitrous motorcycle reset his record to 6.588, and then went on to lower that ET to a 6.535 in eliminations. Herrera holds the title as the quickest Nitrous Hayabusa in the World.

Rudy Sanzoterra also lowered his personal best in qualifying to a 6.653 to move himself up the GOAT List.

Greg Wallace ran a 6.486 and 6.468 in eliminations, but surprisingly the 6.468 did not turn on a win light as Rodney Williford ran a 6.420 in the semi-final round to end his weekend.

Jason Dunigan and Gaige Herrera both ran a 6.56 and 6.55 in round two of eliminations and looked to put on a good show in the semi-final. However, Dunigan turned on a -.002 light to send Herrera to the final against Williford.

Herrera and Williford faced off last season and Herrera was looking for redemption as he took the starting line advantage with a .036 reaction to Williford’s .057. However, Herrera wasn’t out in front for long as Williford barreled around him and stayed out in front of him to put an astonishing 6.396 at 232.03 on the board that Herrera’s 6.572 could not compete with.

The Pro Street action continues in just one month at the 5th annual FuelTech Superbike Showdown on June 17-19, 2022 at Maryland International Raceway.

DME Racing Real Street
The DME Racing Real Street class was again led by champion David Stewart in qualifying with a 7.615, followed by Rickey Gadson with a 7.625.

David Stewart made it to the semi-final, where fellow class champion Mark Hylton took him out on a holeshot win with a .004 reaction time, running a 7.618 to Stewarts’ quicker 7.564.

Ben Knight, who won the season opener, made it to another final round after taking wins against Caleb Holt and David Fondon.

Hylton and Knight on their all motor Hayabusa’s, seemed unaffected by the heat of the weekend as they kept their performance numbers up round after round. Knight cut an uncharacteristic .108 light in the final, giving Hylton’s .059 light the starting line advantage. With Hylton getting off the starting line first, Knight struggled to catch him, and Hylton took the win with a 7.15 to Knight’s 7.667.

MaxxECU Pro Xtreme
Ronnie Procopio entered his first MaxxECU Pro Xtreme race this past weekend and dominated like a veteran. Procopio qualified #1 with a 3.970, putting the only three-second pass on the boards during qualifying.

Procopio had an earned bye in round one. In round two, he won over Chris Cutsinger to place himself in the final to John Collins, who qualified number two with a 4.032. Collins took wins against Travis Davis and Chris Theodoridis before the final.

Despite the heat, these two machines had the potential to put three-second passes on the boards in the final round. It was looking to be a good round of competition, but Collins turned on the dreaded red light with a -.004. The red light did not slow either competitor down as Procopio, with the secured win, ran a 3.961, and Collins came close with a 4.002 pass.

HTP Performance Super Stock
For the second straight event, HTP Performance Super Stock had us feeling like it was Déjà vu. Again, Curtis McDougald took the #1 qualifying spot with an 8.867 to lead the eighteen-bike field of clutch hand racers.

Mike Davis and Darion Payne fought their way back to another final round appearance. Payne took the win at the first event, and Davis was eager for his turn in the winner’s circle, a little too eager as he left before the bulbs dropped to hand Darion Payne his second straight win of the season.

Vance & Hines 4.60
The Vance & Hines 4.60 class didn’t disappoint at the MTC Summer Nationals with five rounds of tough competition. Six racers ran a 4.60 in qualifying, but Jeff Jones got the #1 qualifying spot with his high mph of 150mph as the tie breaker.

Mac McAdams won against Troy Hausmann, Spencer Allen, Michael Stewart, and Jimmy Shifflett to make it to the final round. On the other side of the ladder Joe Rodney took wins over Durwood Rawlings, Brayden Davis, Wes Hawkins, and Kenny Cornell.

With two big names in the final round, it all came down to who was hungrier. McAdams cut a .004 to Rodney’s .022, but Rodney caught McAdams quick, and they were side-by-side approaching the eight-mile finish line. Rodney may have been too hungry as he broke out, crossing the finish line first with a 4.592 to McAdams’s 4.615. The margin of victory on this run was .005 seconds.

HTP Performance Grudge
The rain came in on Saturday night and put a swift end to Saturday night grudge racing. The Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls class decided to split the purse as some racers couldn’t run on Sunday. The APE Nitrous Bulls class and the 3 Sixty 5 Transport Monster Bulls classes voted to finish their shootouts on Sunday.

Boosted Bulls
Malcom Phillips was the only rider that came to win at Virginia and was uncontested. That didn’t stop ‘Billy Mays’ from laying down some lightning-fast laps that left everyone in disbelief while he gained valuable points towards his championship.

APE Nitrous Bulls
In round one of APE Nitrous Bulls, Busa Benjamin on ‘Mister Jay’ got the jump on Lavar Delee on ‘High Roller’, but by the eighth mile, Delee was hard-charging around him for the win light. Malcolm Phillips on ‘Black Jesus’ got an easy win over DeSean Jones on ‘Jimmy Hendrix’ when he broke on the starting line. And Desmond Spalding on ‘Sho Nuff’ had an earned bye in round one.

Spalding was fighting wheelies in round two from start to finish as Phillips controlled pass turned on the win light to send him to the final to face off with Delee who had a bye this round.

‘Black Jesus’ said a prayer in the final while ‘High Roller’ threw the dice. Phillips got off the line first and stayed in front of Delee until the finish line for the win, proving prayers over gambling is always the way to go.

3 Sixty 5 Monster Bulls
3 Sixty 5 Monster Bulls was a ‘Flawless Victory’ delivered by Antonio Williams. Williams put the voodoo on his opponents who struggled in the rounds they faced him. In round one ‘Tik Tok’ struggled to get off the line; in round two, ‘Pickin Pockets’ suffered the same fate. And then, in the final when Williams faced Jamael Jones on ‘Stimulus Check’, Jones left before the bulbs came down to give Williams his first XDA win with a leisurely cruise down the track.

Tommie’s Motorsports All Motor Shootout
Tommie’s Motorsports put together an All-Motor Shootout on Friday night that Edward Thomas on ‘Da Setup’ won over Henry Wise on ‘Henry’.

1 Stop Speed 5.60
The 1 Stop Speed 5.60 class was on fire at the MTC Engineering Summer Nationals as the lanes were packed for a chance at the eight-mile title. Steve Holden qualified on top with a 5.604, leading the thirty-three bike field.

When Sunday eliminations started, nothing stopped sixteen-year-old racer Brayden Davis from making his mark at his first XDA event. Davis took out big names on his way to the final with wins against Mike Sweeney, Dave Cornell, Stephen Moye, and Jimmie Miller. In the final, he would face class champion, Dustin Lee. Lee put a .006 light on the tree for the starting line advantage to Davis’s .040, but when it came to covering those six hundred and sixty feet, Davis would clear it first, running a 5.606 to Lee’s 5.656. It was an exciting final as Brayden Davis’ margin of victory was a mere twelve inches over Lee.

Mickey Thompson Tires Top Sportsman
Mickey Thompson Tires Top Sportsman features the quickest ET racers on the property. Bill Maturo Jr took the number one qualifying position with a 7.741. Maturo, however, would not survive round one as he broke out against Orlando Johnson with a 7.701 on his 7.73 dial.

George Shriver and Jim Shifflett survived four rounds of competition to face each other in the final. The final was set to be a close race with Shriver dialing an 8.04 and Shifflett an 8.17. However, Shifflett gave the win to Shriver at the starting line when he turned on a -.009 red light to end his chance for a winner circle finish.

MPS Racing Pro ET
In MPS Racing Pro ET, the competition saw red in the Virginia heat. The first round saw a whooping twenty-one red lights as racers pushed the tree for that starting line advantage. James Farmer and Nick Hamlett won their seven rounds from their side of the ladder to meet in the final round of competition for a bar vs. no bar final.

Hamlett dialed an 8.77 and Farmer an 8.16. Farmer got the starting line advantage with a .020 light to Hamlett’s .060. Farmer left second but quickly caught Hamlett for a side-by-side race to the finish. As the two took the stripe, Hamlett broke out, running an 8.757 giving the win to Farmer, who ran an 8.172.

VooDoo Components Bracket Bash
Over a hundred racers braved the heat and entered the Saturday VooDoo Components Bracket Bash class. Four rounds of competition were completed until the rain came in and shut down the race Saturday night. Ten racers split the prize money and started their Saturday night celebrations early.

Brock’s Performance Street ET
In Brock’s Performance Street ET, the competition was at its best despite the high temperatures of the event. Class champion Derrick Milbourne started the weekend off with a win on Friday night and carried that right into Sunday’s competition. After winning six rounds, he faced Shayne Proctor in the finals. Proctor dialed a 9.14 and cut the better light with .033; Milbourne left the tree second with his 8.81 dial and chased Proctor down to get to the stripe first, winning with an 8.834 to Proctor’s 9.178.

Hard Times Parts & Service Gambler’s Race
The Friday night Hard Times Parts and Service Gamblers race kicked off the weekend, putting cash in sportsman’s pockets. Derrick Milbourne and Rico Brown won five rounds to make it to the final to face each other. Both riders were cutting lights and running well on their dials to make this a tremendous final-round matchup. Dialed an 8.86, Milbourne, a veteran racer, cut a.004 light for the starting line advantage. Brown dialed an 8.76, and chased Milbourne to the stipe but broke out running an 8.758 giving the win to Milbourne, who ran an 8.887.

FOR THE FIRST TIME, the HTP Performance Super Stock class is wide open for a new champion this season. Darion Payne is leading this class of stock wheelbase, clutch hand racers by twenty points. This class features strict modification rules, stock wheelbase, stock motor, MR12 spec fuel, no air shifters, no dataloggers, etc. So if you enjoy a riders class, these guys and gals will give you a show.

The 1/8th-mile killers of the Vance & Hines 4.60 continue to show out as these remarkable machines can put down consistent numbers while their pilots are cutting the best lights over all the classes at every event. Nearly 700 XDA motorcycle drag racers on Maryland International Raceway quarter-mile

This past weekend nearly 700 XDA motorcycle drag racers ran down the Maryland International Raceway quarter-mile for the 28th annual Platinum General Services Spring Nationals.

With a beautiful weather forecast and racers eager to resume racing after two years of pandemic hurtles, the pits were jam-packed with racers ready to start the 2022 racing season.

Friday saw record turnouts with nearly 300 racers entered in test and tune. And with the rush to get the season started, the track was hit with multiple oil downs as racers continued to push performance limits. However, the MIR crew prevailed and kept the show moving along as racers put on a crowd-pleasing show.

Vance & Hines Reveals New Sidewinder Exhaust System for Suzuki Hayabusa Drag Racers

Santa Fe Springs CA – March 31, 2022 – Vance & Hines today announced the ultimate exhaust for Suzuki Hayabusa drag racing machines, the new 4-2-1 Sidewinder Exhaust, another step forward in the partnership the company has with Suzuki Motors USA.

The new system is designed for drag race-use on Suzuki Hayabusa models from 1999 to today. Its 4 to 2 to 1 configuration is the ultimate design for peak horsepower, particularly for higher displacement or heavily modified engines, including those running nitrous set-ups, but will still provide good gains on milder set-ups as well.

The exhaust is manufactured of lightweight 304 stainless steel, so it weighs only 14 pounds, a reduction of 30 pounds from the 44-pound stock system. It includes tapered head pipes and full merge collectors for maximum performance. The system also includes features that allow it to be adapted for whatever level of performance an owner/racer is seeking. This includes oxygen sensor bungs and an optional baffle so that the pipe can be adjusted to meet a broad range of performance mods. Suggested retail price is $1799.99.

Champions Strut at the XDA Season Finale

XDA’s fourth season has been another success with the 29th annual DME Racing Fall Nationals, crowning twelve champions at Maryland International Raceway (MDIR). 

The season featured top-tier motorcycle drag racing action that can’t be seen anywhere else. And while the on-track action was hot, the racers’ payouts were hotter, with over $560,000 for the year and $131,000 in contingency offerings.

The 2021 season also saw records broken and performance barriers pushed to new levels. And because of the loyal XDA racers and fans, the series continued to grow and thrive during a time that is unpredictable month to month. XDA is looking forward to another successful season next year with their racing family.

The 2022 XDA season will begin where 2021 ended, at the world-renown Maryland International Raceway on April 22-24 for the Platinum Fleet Repair Spring Nationals. Mark your 2022 calendars now to race with the quickest and fastest sanction in the country!

Orient Express Racing Pro Street

The Orient Express Pro Street class is the most exciting class to watch in all of motorcycle drag racing. With no wheelie bars, these 6-second, 230+mph motorcycles are launching like missiles as their riders fight to keep them straight through the quarter mile. This past weekend delivered numerous personal improvements among the class.

Rodney Williford came into the DME Racing Fall Nationals with the championship title already locked down. He went right to work taking the number one qualifying spot with a 6.482, followed by Greg Wallace’s personal best ET of 6.484. This makes Wallace the eleventh rider to enter the forties in Pro Street.

Curtis Brown, who is in his rookie season, ran a 6.760 in qualifying to make a big move down the Pro Street GOAT list. Midwest racer Jamie Hendricks also improved to a 7.136. And Jason Dunigan ran the top speed of the event in qualifying at 230.29 mph.

Rudy Sanzoterra with Quicktime Motorsports has been making big moves this season in his program and made the trip to his first XDA race of the season. Despite losing in round one, he ran his personal best of 6.688 to make him the twenty-fifth rider ever to enter the sixties in Pro Street. The XDA looks forward to seeing his team back next season.

In round one, Caleb Holt ran the quickest of the session at 6.499 to take a win over Curtis Brown. Like Sanzoterra, Brown also ran his personal best on a losing round at 6.735.

James Waugh would also improve his personal best in round one, winning against Ryan Bonitatis with a 6.562 making him the eighteenth rider to enter the fifties.

Problems for Greg Wallace in round one caused an upset as the fifteenth qualifier, Brad Christian, took the win over him, running a 7.202.

Also taking wins in the round were Williford 6.638, Ryan Hable 6.704, Justin Shakir 6.583, Jordan Haase 6.643, and Jason Dunigan 6.617.

In round two, the performance continued as Williford 6.503, Holt 6.542, Haase 7.103, and Dunigan 6.587 all took wins.

In the semi-final, Jordan Haase made a solo pass when Dunigan’s cam sensor broke, and he could not get the bike to fire in the water box. This sent Haase to his first final round appearance this season. Williford also took a win with a 6.488 over Holt’s 6.582.

If Jordan Haase is in the final, Williford is always in the other lane. With John Gover tuning, Haase was ready to lay down his best number of the weekend and finally get a win over Williford. Haase got the starting line advantage with a .032 reaction time to Williford’s .079. Haase gave his best effort with a 6.644, but it was no match for the run that everyone had been waiting for Williford to run all season, a 6.383 at 229.66 mph. With this pass, Williford won the race and became the third rider to enter the thirties, and the first person to ever run thirties on a Hayabusa.

With the XDA season complete, the top ten XDA Pro Street racers will focus on their $5,000 bonus race. The 25th annual Haltech World Cup Finals presented by Wiseco on November 3-7 will host the fourth annual Pro Street Shootout sponsored by Platinum General Services.

This will be the largest event that Pro Street has ever raced at, competing in front of 40,000+ fans. Ten racers will show up, but only eight will make it to the show on Sunday! The ten racers that will strive to qualify for the eight-bike field are Rodney Williford, Justin Shakir, Jason Dunigan, Greg Wallace, Jordan Haase, Ryan Hable, Kenny Brewer, Curtis Brown, Ryan Bonitatis, and Darion Payne.

DME Racing Real Street
Winner – Trevor Schnitz / Runner-up – Mark Hylton
Champion – Mark Hylton

On Friday, you could feel the steam from the DME Racing Real Street pressure cooker as both David Stewart and Mark Hylton waited to start qualifying. With only a round of points separating them from a championship, the pressure was written all over their faces.

In qualifying Spencer Claycomb took the top spot with a 7.572, followed by Hylton’s 7.591. Stewart qualified seventh with a 7.693 at the bottom half of the field, putting him at a disadvantage for round one.

In round one, Ralphie Navarro would run a 7.613 to take out David Stewart’s 7.770 pass and end his hopes of a championship. Mark Hylton would win over Bud Harrod to cement his 2021 title. You could see the relief on Hylton’s team as they were able to switch gears and happily focus on an event win. Rickey Gadson won over Chad Sosnowski 7.751 to 7.724, and Trevor Schnitz won over Jovi Barnes.

In round two, Navarro and Schnitz gave us some action with a side-by-side nail biter. Schnitz had the starting line advantage with a.042 reaction time to Navarro’s .108. Schnitz was quickly in front of Navarro, but Navarro kept gaining, and by the eighth mile, they were side-by-side. Even from the top of the grandstands, you could not tell who was crossing the finish line first; they were that close. When the boards lit up, it was a 7.668 to a 7.669 in favor of Schnitz. Gadson and Hylton also took wins that round on solo passes.

Schnitz’s round two win earned him a bye to the final. The new champ, Mark Hylton, took an easy victory against Gadson, who broke on the starting line.

Headed to the final, this would be Schnitz’s second final round appearance this season and the second time facing Hylton. Schnitz once again took a slight starting line advantage with a .042 to Hylton’s .046. Both riders took off side-by-side until about the eighth mile when Hylton’s Hayabusa lost power, and Schnitz pulled away from him. When Schnitz’s win light came on, it made the sixteen-year-old the youngest winner in XDA history. It must be in the genes.

Real Street will return for the 2022 motorcycle drag racing season. If you are looking to enter the Pro ranks, now is the time to start preparing for next year.

MaxxECU Pro Xtreme
Winner – John Collins / Runner-up – Chris Garner-Jones
Champion – Chris Garner-Jones

Chris Garner-Jones clinched the 2021 MaxxECU Pro Xtreme championship with a 159 point lead over the class. Jones also set the ET record earlier this season to an astounding 3.897.

Garner-Jones qualified number one with a 3.949 followed by his rival John Collins with a 3.95. At the DME Racing Fall Nationals, these two riders would find themselves in the opposing lanes for the fourth final this season. Collins is the only rider Garner-Jones has lost to all season.

In round one, Bobby Lovingood was broke, giving Garner-Jones an easy pass to the next round. Collins bested Chris Cutsinger with a 4.011 to a 4.103. And Rob Garcia ran the only three-second pass of eliminations with a 3.984 to win over Travis Davis.

Garner-Jones broke the beams in the semi-final with an earned bye, and Garcia went red with a -.024 against Collins.

Garner-Jones’ bike jumped out of gear during qualifying, slamming him into the tank hard, giving him some pain around his ribs. This happened again during round one of eliminations. Also, during a pass, he went to push down on the left foot peg when his foot slipped, slamming it to the pavement at about 170mph. The team later found the reason the bike was being so difficult; the wheelie bars had broken.

When the final round came around, he was still in pain and was concerned about safely riding the bike. And add to that, the PDRA race this weekend was coming up, and he would need to heal up if he wanted a shot at their championship. He ultimately decided to forfeit the round, giving Collins his second win this season.

HTP Performance Super Stock
Winner – David Fondon / Runner-up – Mike Davis
2021 Champion – David Fondon

The HTP Performance Super Stock season finished just as it started. David Fondon clinched the championship mid-season and finished with a staggering 591 point lead over the class. Fondon won every event this season except for the WPGC Bike Fest that Jeremey Teasley claimed.

This past weekend Fondon took the number one qualifying position with an 8.808, followed by rival Mike Davis with an 8.861. Fondon and Davis found each other in the finals at the season opening PFR Spring Nationals, where Fondon took a win over Davis.

This past weekend their Kawasaki ZX-14’s found each other in opposing lanes for the final round once again. Fondon had the starting line advantage with a .098 reaction to Davis’ .132. Davis gave Fondon a fight to the finish line, but he didn’t have enough to overpower the quicker 8.833 of Fondon to his 8.946.

This makes two championships in a row for David Fondon. For 2022, will he be back in Super Stock again, or will he move up to Real Street or Pro Street to compete with the Big Dogs?

Vance & Hines 4.60
Winner – Michael Thyen / Runner-up – Tyler Cammock
2021 Champion – Ronald Procopio

The 2020 Vance & Hines 4.60 Champion continues his reign with back-to-back championships. Without taking a win this season, Ronald Procopio accumulated enough points from rounds won over the seven-race series to be the first consecutive champion in the class. This is also Procopio’s third Vance & Hines 4.60 career championship.

Procopio qualified number one at the DME Racing Fall Nationals with a perfect 4.600 over thirty-five competitors. He was taken out in round two by the two-time class champion Tyler Cammock. Cammock then went on to win two more rounds against Mac McAdams and Wes Hawkins before reaching the final round.

The competition was on point in Vance & Hines 4.60 that in all five rounds of competition, there was only one red light. Michael Thyen has only entered the class three times this season, but three times was the charm as he took wins against Curtis Griggs, Eran Pielert, Michael Stewart, and Chase Van Sant on his way to the final round against Cammock.

Thyen cut his best light of the day in the final with a .004 for the starting line advantage over Cammock’s .031. The light would earn him a hole shot win as Cammock ran a 4.611 to Thyen’s 4.622 pass.

HTP Performance Grudge
HTP Performance Grudge racers filled the lanes Saturday night with an impressive ninety-six ‘No Time’ motorcycles. Chris Moore returned with Melania looking for action in Boosted Bulls against the latest DME Racing entry piloted by multi-time record holder Frankie Stotz. The DME team had their money on the table, and they were ready to play. But once again, when it came time to do the deed, Melania was unable to make the call.

APE Nitrous Bulls
Winner – Ray Lee / Lil Ugly
Runner-up – Russell Dennison / Jimmy Hendricks
2021 Champion – Russell Dennison / Jimmy Hendricks

The APE Nitrous Bulls championship was locked in before the DME Racing Fall Nationals, with Russell Dennison on ‘Jimmy Hendricks’ claiming his first Bulls title.

In round one, Ray Lee on ‘Lil Ugly’ couldn’t be touched by Matt Dozier on ‘Kill shot’ as he flew past him. While fast, Alex Williams on ‘Master Blaster’ didn’t need to be, as Billy Vose on ‘Red Bull’ lost his wings right off the starting line. The Champ, Dennison, had an earned bye.

In the semi-final, Dennison executed another flawless pass as Williams struggled to keep his power on the track as it attempted to take flight off the starting line. And Lee had an earned bye to the final.

It got a little ugly in the final round when ‘Jimmy Hendricks’ lost his tune and let Ray Lee on ‘Lil Ugly’ get his first XDA win.

3 Sixty 5 Monster Bulls
Winner – Michael Thyen / The Prisoner
Runner-up – David Page / Pickin’ Pockets
2021 Champion – David Page / Pickin’ Pockets

3 Sixty 5 Monster Bulls was an action-packed night as it came down to the wire to determine the championship. 2020 class champion David Page had a three-point lead, but those three points would not be a lot of help when it comes to round wins. David Martin was on his heels and wanted the title just as much as Page.

In round one, both riders dominated their competition for wins. Page won against ‘Tick Toc’ to earn a bye to the final. In the semi-final Martin on ‘Unknown’ faced Michael Thyen on ‘The Prisoner.’ Martin left the starting line with ample power but was fighting to keep the front wheel down as ‘The Prisoner’ crept past him for the win.

With Martin out and Page going to the final, he would officially secure the 2021 3 Sixty 5 Monster Bulls championship despite the outcome of the final round.

The final was a slugfest between these two monsters, but Thyen got the drop on the pocket picker to secure a win and spot in the top five in the championship points. Page was still smiling with a 2x Monster Bulls Champion title to his name despite taking an event loss.

Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls
2021 Champion – Cody Lowe / Codeine

Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls was cut short on Saturday night when rain moved in before the final round at Midnight. Despite not crowning a winner, the Bulls still put on action-packed show with thirteen grudge racers vying for a win.

Duane Jackson was leading the points coming in the finals with Geoff Godfrey and Cody Lowe on his tail as they were both in contention for the title as well. Godfrey lost to Kyron Drake on ‘Drive By,’ taking him out of the running in round one. Lowe on ‘Codeine’ snatched a win light from Jordan McDougald’s ‘Quick Money’ to stay alive for another round.

In round two, Lowe would face Jackson on ‘Miss Behavin’ for a race that would determine Jackson’s championship fate. The two literbikes rolled into the beams, and when the yellow bulbs flashed, both bikes shot out like rockets side-by-side. Lowe was on a nonstop flight to the finish line while Jackson’s bike wouldn’t behave, forcing him to abort the pass as it quickly headed toward the wall. When Lowe’s win light came on, he was officially declared the Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls champion.

Lowe would take out Drake in the semi-final while Deshon Jones on ‘Mae Jean’ drove past Matt Dozier on ‘Tucci’ for a win. After the semi-round, the rain came, and the pot was split with no winner declared.

1 Stop Speed 5.60
Winner – Rico Brown / Runner-up – Jeff Stahl
2021 Champion – Dustin Lee

Dustin Lee secured the 1 Stop Speed 5.60 Championship title for a second time before he even rolled into MDIR last week. With the championship on lock, Lee was able to focus on win lights all weekend.

Kenny Webster earned the top qualifying spot on Saturday with a 5.603. Webster earned a first-round bye. However, he lost in the second round after breaking out with a 5.587 against Dustin Davis.

Jeff Stahl qualified with a 5.682 and turned on five win lights before getting to the final. Stahl’s average light of the weekend in 1 Stop Speed 5.60 was .330, making him a contender in the final.

On the other side of the ladder Rico Brown, who took a runner-up finish at the Bike Brawl, was on a mission to get to the winner’s circle. He was running consistently and turning on win lights every round.

As he turned the win light on against Duane Jackson in round four, Brown’s bike washed out from underneath him, sending him to the asphalt as his 2008 Hayabusa slid down the track. Brown was right up and walking around like it was just another tackle on the football field. His bike did not suffer any significant damage, and he was right back in the lanes for the semi-final, where another win light would send him to face Stahl.

In the final, Brown cut his best light of day with a .015 to Stahl’s .098, Brown had the starting line advantage, but Stahl would be too eager for the finish line and break out with a 5.553; sending Brown to his first 1 Stop Speed 5.60 win! And that’s what we call a comeback.

Mickey Thompson Tires Top Sportsman
Winner – John James / Runner-up – Pablo Gonzalez
2021 Champion – Bobby Holland

In Mickey Thompson Top Tires Sportsman, only thirty-two riders would qualify for the quickest bracket class in XDA. Bill Maturo Jr. would take the top qualifying spot with a 7.531, while Ohio racer Kevin Adams would round out the field in the thirty-second position with an 8.190 ET.

In round one of competition, points leader Jeffrey Santin lost with a -.001 red light to Michael Daddio, thus taking him out of championship contention. The top points leaders in contention also took first-round losses, except for the number two in points, Bobby Holland. Holland’s first-round win was enough to earn the 2021 Championship.

Philadelphia racer John James would win four rounds to face Pablo Gonzalez in the final. James had the better reaction time average than Gonzalez in the previous four rounds of competition. In the final, James would cut a .057 light to Gonzalez’s .073. The two racers barreled down the MDIR quarter-mile with eyes on each other as they approached the finish line side-by-side. Gonzalez misjudged his speed by a margin of two inches and broke out with a 7.547 on a 7.55 dial. James, with the win, ran an 8.014 on an 8.00 dial; this run is the definition of a photo finish.

MPS Racing Pro ET
Winner – Pablo Gonzalez
2021 Champion – Jeffrey Santin

The XDA staging lanes were brimming with MPS Racing Pro ET bikes as 189 of the best bracket racers on the east coast were looking for green lights. It took nine rounds of competition to get down to the final race of the weekend.

Jeffrey Santin came into the event with a slim lead on the class, and when he took a fourth-round loss, the potential of losing the championship became real. Dustin Lee, who was number two in points, went on to win the next two rounds. And with each win light, the drama ramped up; you could feel the seriousness of the situation in the air.

In round seven, Lee faced Pablo Gonzalez, and the winner of that round would have a bye to the final. And if Dustin Lee made it into the final and won, it would be Game Over for Santin. But Gonzalez put an end to the drama taking out Lee to secure Santin’s first XDA championship.

The season’s final race featured a stout $10K payout to the winner with the allowance of double entries, thus giving racers with multiple bikes two chances to win. And with this, for the first time in XDA’s history, one rider would have to face himself in the final. Gonzalez took his pair of Hayabusa’s to a ninth-round final and chose his 2005 Hayabusa to make the final lap down the track for the 2021 XDA season.

Brock’s Performance Street ET
Winner – Bubba Driscoll / Runner-up – Barry Purnell
2021 Champion – Derrick Milbourne

Going into the DME Racing Fall Nationals, 2020 class champion Derrick Milbourne had a healthy points lead in Brock’s Performance Street ET. His most significant threat to the championship, Mark Blake, took a first-round loss; and that sealed it for Milbourne to secure back-to-back championships.

Bubba Driscoll and Barry Purnell both won six rounds of competition to make it to the final. However, both racers opted not to race each other. With a rain delay holding up action on the track, Driscoll and Purnell decided they didn’t want to wait and flipped a coin in the lanes to determine a winner. Driscoll got the right side of the coin.

VooDoo Components Bracket Bash
Winner – Dustin Lee / Runner-up – Chris Sulkowski

On Saturday, 137 racers entered the VooDoo Components Bracket Bash for a chance at the $4,500 class payout. XDA multi-champion Dustin Lee made it look easy as he chopped the tree round after round. Lee not only had a perfect reaction time one round, his average reaction time over eight rounds was .024. In the final, Lee met Chris Sulkowski. Sulkowski took a first-round loss and bought back in, winning six more rounds to earn a lane in the final against Lee. However, luck would not go his way as a mechanical problem would make him a no-show for the final, sending Lee to another winner circle.

Hard Times Parts & Service Gambler’s Race
Winner – Boyd Mathis / Runner-up – Mike Schulz

The Friday night Hard Times Parts & Service Gambler’s race was at capacity with sixty-four sportsman competitors looking to start the weekend with a $4,000 payout. Boyd Mathias on his 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa was an intimidating competitor as four of his six competitors went red against him. He faced Mike Schulz, who cut a better light for a starting line advantage in the final. But Schulz would lose power as Mathis powered by him for his sixth win light of the night and first payout of the weekend.

XDA Racers Reach First Time Success at Bike Brawl

For the third time this year, the XDA brought the best show in motorcycle drag racing to Virginia Motorsports Park for the Inaugural Bike Brawl.

The weekend featured cooler temperatures, and racers were able to show off some serious performance gains as they fought for points as the 2021 championship chase is quickly coming to an end.

Orient Express Racing Pro Street
Winner – Rodney Williford / Runner-up – Darion Payne

Jordan Haase is back! After missing the August Bike Bash event, Haase came out of the gate hot, running a career-best 6.549 / 228.50 mph to put him in the number four qualifying spot of Orient Express Racing Pro Street.

Many racers improved on their personal best in the cool September air at VMP. Improvements made were; Curtis Brown officially in the sixes with a 6.973, Ryan Bonitatis 6.676, Ricky Wood 6.700 at 226.24 mph, Darion Payne 6.488, Greg Wallace 6.500, and Rodney Williford 6.438.

The Bike Bash Pro finals from August were also contested on Saturday during qualifying and delivered a first-time winner. Justin Shakir has been making ET and MPH performance gains all season and Saturday; his hard work paid off with his first Pro Street win, including stopping Rodney Williford’s 5-race winning streak. Shakir went dangerously close to red lighting in the final with a .002 light, giving him the starting line advantage over Williford’s .036 light. With these two titans side-by-side down the quarter-mile, Shakir would get to the finish line first with a 6.463 at 227.08 mph to Williford’s quick but losing 6.496 at 229.51 mph.

With Shakir qualifying number one and Williford number two, there was potential for a repeat final on Sunday from these two racers. However, Shakir would fall to Darion Payne in the semi-final when he couldn’t produce enough power to outrun Payne’s stellar 6.491 pass.

Darion Payne ran his career-best in round two against Jordan Haase with 6.488, then after taking out Shakir, he would meet the champion Rodney Williford in the final.

Williford took out racers Curtis Brown, Ricky Wood, and Greg Wallace on his way to his sixth straight final this season. In the semi-final, Williford ran his career-best 6.438 against Wallace.

Both Williford and Payne were on track for a showdown in the final. Williford got out of the gate first with a marginally better reaction time of .071 over Payne’s .078. Payne was right on Williford, but he was not as stable as they both blasted down the quarter-mile. Williford’s Turbo Hayabusa was firmly planted on the track and ran perfectly straight to another win with 6.462 over Payne’s 6.506.

DME Racing Real Street
Winner – David Stewart / Runner-up – Ralphie Navarro

Points leader Mark Hylton took the number one qualifying position in DME Racing Real Street with a 7.515.

After David Stewart was dethroned from the points lead by Hylton, he also suffered a blow of a first-round loss at the August Bike Bash. So coming into the Bike Brawl, Stewart was looking for redemption. After qualifying number three with a 7.595 he made his way through eliminations taking out Trevor Schnitz, Chad Sosnowski, and finally Mark Hylton on his way to another final round appearance. Notably, Stewart also broke the class MPH record of 196.13 with a 196.82 pass. Unfortunately, he was unable to back it up for an official recording.

On the other side of the ladder, in only his seventh DME Racing Real Street race, Ralphie Navarro, who qualified with a 7.581, made his first final round appearance in the class. Navarro took wins over Bud Harrod, and Brittany Bohne earning himself a bye to the final against Stewart.

In the final, Stewart took a starting line advantage with a .072 to Navarro’s .112, yet Navarro caught up quickly. However, his slower reaction cost him the race as he went through the beams .04 seconds later than Stewart, with both racers putting up identical 7.627 ET’s on the board.

The August Bike Bash final also ran during qualifying but was uneventful. Trevor Schnitz, who was making his first Pro Final appearance in his short racing career, would be a no show for the final due to breakage, giving Mark Hylton an easy win and more points to pad his points lead for the championship.

HTP Performance Super Stock
Winner – David Fondon / Runner-up – Blake Johnson

The Kawasaki ZX-14’s dominated HTP Performance Super Stock at the September Bike Brawl. David Fondon was the number one qualifier with an 8.753, followed by Mike Davis with an 8.819.

During qualifying, the final two rounds from the August Bike Bash were completed. Curtis McDougald had a bye in the semi-final while Mike Davis would face class champion David Fondon. Fondon took the starting line advantage on his 2020 Kawasaki ZX-14, leaving Davis on his 2013 ZX-14 in chase mode to the finish line. Fondon took another win running 8.787 to Davis’ 8.819. Fondon would get another starting line advantage in the final, leaving McDougald trailing behind when his win light came on, running an 8.755 to an 8.867. This win made five undefeated wins in a row for Fondon.

Back to the Bike Brawl event, on Sunday during eliminations, Fondon took out all the heavy-hitters on his way to the final, including Mark Blake, Darion Payne, and Curtis McDougald. On the other side of the ladder, Blake Johnson worked through Dell Jones, his father Brian Jones, and Jyrec Givens on his way to his first Pro final.

Johnson qualified number three with an 8.856 and was well fit to give Fondon a run for the money. Johnson got the starting line advantage with a .118 reaction time to Fondon’s slower .147. Johnson gave it his best effort running an 8.893 at 157.52, but Fondon’s ZX-14 outran him with an 8.854 at 160.29 mph.

MaxxECU Pro Xtreme
Winner – Chris Garner-Jones / Runner-up – Rob Garcia

Chris Garner-Jones took the number one qualifying position in MaxxECU Pro Xtreme with a 3.901 followed by Rob Garcia with a 3.987.

In round one of eliminations, John Collins took a win over a broken Chris Cutsinger, Rob Garcia won with a 4.039 to Bobby Lovingood’s 5.450, and Garner-Jones had an earned bye.

In round two of eliminations, Rob Garcia advanced with an earned bye running a 4.032. And Garner-Jones won with a 3.924 over John Collins’ 4.048. The final would be uneventful as Garner-Jones took the win, breaking the beams when Garcia could not make the call for the final.

Vance & Hines 4.60
Winner – Troy Hausmann / Runner-up – Kenny Cornell

For the first time this season, Kevin White held the number one qualifying position in the Vance & Hines 4.60 index class with a perfect 4.600. In round two, his weekend would end after a dreaded red-light against Kenny Cornell. Cornell would go on to win two more rounds to make it to his second final this season.

On the other side of the ladder, Troy Hausmann ran deadly consistent with an average ET of 4.62. Hausmann got the starting line advantage with a .016 reaction time to Cornell’s .022. But Cornell didn’t have the performance needed in the final against Hausmann’s winning 4.642 as he crossed the eighth-mile finish line with a 4.874. This win will give Hausmann a points injection as we head into the season finale.

The Vance & Hines 4.60 August Bike Bash final ran during qualifying between Michael Ostrowski and Cameron Shelton. Ostrowski cut a perfect .000 light to Shelton’s .041 light. The eight-mile finish line came up quickly as Ostrowski won with a 4.619 run to Shelton’s 4.629.

APE Nitrous Bulls
Russell Dennison Jr was the only rider in the APE Nitrous Bulls class and landed a winner’s circle finish. Richard Gadson is the only rider that can stop him from winning the championship with one race left in the season.

3 Sixty 5 Monster Bulls
Winner – Mike Burkhart / Attila
Runner-up – Rendolf Torbed / Kastigala

Mike Burkhart on ‘Attila’ is on a winning streak in the Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls. After Burkhart’s Bike Bash win, he made a few performance upgrades and was back eager to keeping knocking out his competitors. On Burkhart’s way to the final he sent the points leader, David Page, and Michael Thyen back to their trailers to pack up for the weekend. 2019 class champion Rendolf Torbed from Curacao, who was on hiatus in 2020 was back ready to play. Torbed on ‘Kastigala’ made easy work of Junior Johnson on ‘Reparation’ and Howard Gerken on ‘Son of Sam’ on his way to meet Burkhart in the final. Even though the champ was back, it wasn’t enough as Burkhart boomed down the track for his second straight victory.

Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls
The action was heated Saturday night in Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls. The points leader Geoff Godfrey came in hot up with fresh upgrades to ‘Minion’, taking out Edward Thomas on ‘Da Setup’ in round one. In round two Travis Kidd on ‘Rebirth’ sent Godfrey back to the drawing board and putting his point lead in jeopardy.

At this first XDA event, Deshon Jones made a statement taking ‘Mae Jean’ to a final round after knocking out Augustine Herrera on ‘Bankrupt’ and Travis Kidd. Duane Jackson on ‘Miss Behavin’ took out heavy-hitters Brian Childress on ‘Joey Wales,’ Cody Lowe on ‘Codeine’ and Desmond Spaulding on ‘Sho Nuff’ on his way to the final.

Curfew hit Saturday night before Jones and Jackson could square off, and the two split the pot.

1 Stop Speed 5.60
Winner – Michael Rankin / Runner-up – Rico Brown

The 1 Stop Speed 5.60 eighth-mile index received two first-timers in the final. Michael Rankin, a staple in the sportsman classes, made his first XDA 1 Stop Speed 5.60 final along with Rico Brown, who is in his second season of motorcycle drag racing. Brown had the advantage going into the final because he was running deadly consistent with 5.607 ET average from the previous rounds compared to Rankin’s 5.65 average.

Brown left the starting line first with a .060 reaction time to Rankin’s .067. Brown got to the finish line first but broke out with a 5.570 ET, with the win going to Rankin on his 5.590 break-out pass.

Hard Times Parts & Service Gambler’s Race
Winner – Pablo Gonzalez / Runner-up – Normal Teal

The Friday night Hard Times Parts & Service Gambler’s race was again dominated by Pablo Gonzalez as he took back-to-back wins. In the final, he dialed a 9.34 to run against Norma Teal’s 8.24 dial. Gonzalez took the tree with a .027 to Teal’s .033. Both racers fought to get to the finish line first; Teal got there first but should have lifted quicker as he broke out running an 8.228 giving the win to Gonzalez’s 9.364

VooDoo Components Bracket Bash
Winner – Derrick Milbourne / Runner-up – Derek Burkhead Jr

On Saturday, a whopping one hundred and forty racers entered the VooDoo Components Bracket Bash. After seven rounds of competition, Derrick Milbourne and Derek Burkhead Jr. would be the last men standing. Milbourne’s reaction time average from the previous seven rounds was .042, while Burkhead Jr. had an advantage with a .030 average. Burkhead Jr. would react too quick and turn on the red light to hand the win over to Derrick Milbourne with a $4,500 class payout.

Mickey Thompson Tires Top Sportsman
Winner – Pablo Gonzalez / Runner-up – Robin Procopio

Pablo Gonzalez, who won the Mickey Thompson Tires Top Sportsman event at August’s Bike Bash, would qualify number one for the third straight race with a 7.499. This would also be his third consecutive final and second-time meeting Robin Procopio in the other lane. Procopio and Gonzalez both have wins over each other, and this weekend would be a tie-breaker. Procopio ended her weekend cutting a -.003 red light to send Gonzalez to his second-winner circle appearance of the weekend.

MPS Racing Pro ET
Winner – Dustin Lee / Runner-up – Pablo Gonzalez

Over a hundred racers entered Sunday’s MPS Racing Pro ET class. It would take seven wins before Dustin Lee and Pablo Gonzalez would meet in the final. Yes, Gonzalez was now in his third final of the weekend!

While Gonzalez was looking for a win, Lee needed a win to gain points for a shot at the championship. Lee dialed a 7.85 and Gonzalez a 7.50. With both 2008 Hayabusa’s staged, Lee got the starting line advantage with a .050 light to Gonzalez’s .071. As both riders headed to the finish looking over their shoulders, keeping an eye on their competitors position, it was Lee that made the better decision. Gonzalez backed off the throttle too soon, running a 7.57 while Lee ran closer to his dial with a 7.895 for the win.

Brock’s Performance Street ET
Winner – Derrick Milbourne / Runner-up – Jermiah Manuel

On Sunday, Brock’s Performance Street ET was dominated by Derrick Milbourne as his winning streak continued. Jermiah Manuel from Delaware won six straight rounds to meet Milbourne in the final. But his success would be undone in the final by his own hands. Manuel dialed a 9.07 to Milbourne’s 8.89. As both racers crossed the finish line, neither was willing to let out, and they both broke out, Milbourne with an 8.89 and Manuel with an injurious 9.034. This win gave Milbourne his second winner circle appearance of the weekend.
