In total, Yamaha granted more than $350,000 in 2020 while supplying essential support to public lands providing vital access to outdoor recreation across the country. The Yamaha OAI program continues to lead the powersports industry in providing direct monetary support to grassroots efforts helping to protect, expand, and improve entry to public spaces off-road for motorized recreation. “The pressure on public lands during the pandemic has been enormous due to people finding solace outdoors. Their adventures gave off-road enthusiasts a much-needed breather from the stress we’ve all experienced over the past year,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s Motorsports marketing manager. “Public land belongs to everyone and we all have a responsibility to take care of it. Motorcycle community helps Belen Veteran after fire

Saturday morning dozens of men and women from the motorcycle community stepped up to help him out. Daniel Romero has come a long way since he lost his home in a fire back in September. For months he and his dogs have been living in devastating conditions, with no heat, or water. Romero says he’s never felt more alone in his life. But now the motorcycle community is showing him he’s not alone. Saturday morning bikers from all around the metro, who heard about Romero’s situation, helped him clean up his property. Dozens of men and women, along with the Veterans Memorial are helping him get the property ready for a new trailer, that is being donated. Romero says he never expected the outpouring of support, but it’s nice to have the help – so he can get back on his feet again. Auckland Mayor Phil Goff joins motorcycle ride for Ronald McDonald House

The annual ride, called the Ronnie Run, was organised by the Ulysses motorcycle club and raised just under $7000. Goff, a keen motorcyclist, said he didn’t get to go out on his Triumph Bonneville as often as he’d like to. So the Sunday ride was a good excuse to put his gear on and go for a ride with like-minded people, he said. The event attracted about 140 riders, ranging from young children to people in their 80s. It started in Albany on the North Shore and ended at Ronald McDonald House next to Starship Children’s Hospital. Police helped marshal the group along its journey. Goff said he’d been commandeered by the group to come on a charity ride during his election campaign. While he said he couldn’t at that stage, he promised to make the next one – a promise that he made good on on Sunday. Ronald McDonald House Charities New Zealand (RMHC) supports families when their child is in a hospital and away from home. The Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Room helps to relieve family stresses like paying for a place to sleep near the hospital, organising family meals and needing a friendly ear to listen on tough days. In 2018, it provided more than 4300 people with accommodation and support free of charge at its facilities. “For all of us with kids and grandkids, the worst thing you would want to have happen would be to have them affected by a life-threatening illness,” Goff said. “[RMHC] is one way in which we can stop the stress of families.”

This puts Republicans in a role they not been in since 2010, seeking the help of Democrats to tackle legislative priorities. Republican Greg Walden of Oregon, the previous chairman and now ranking member as well as Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers of Washington and Bob Latta of Ohio sent Chairman Pallone a letter regarding the need for Congress to act on autonomous vehicles legislation. “We write to urge the Energy and Commerce Committee to take up bipartisan self-driving vehicle legislation. Last Congress this Committee worked across party lines to draft H.R. 3388, the Safely Ensuring Lives Future Deployment and Research in Vehicle Evolution Act (SELF DRIVE Act). The SELF DRIVE Act was an example of this Committee at its very best: working together, across the aisle, to develop legislation that will advance lifesaving technology.
