Engineer and ex-racer Alex Macfadzean, 77, and his team designed the ‘streamliner’ bike which will make its record attempt next year at the Uyuni Salt Flat in Bolivia. Behind the wheel will be motorcycle racer turned TV presenter Guy Martin, who will attempt to beat the current record of 376.3mph and cross the 400mph threshold. To try to advance the record, Mr Martin will run the new streamliner on a mile-long course twice in opposite directions, as per official land-speed record rules. The bike’s 1,200 shaft horsepower Rolls Royce engine is the same found within the Westland Lynx helicopter once employed by the British Army and the Royal Navy. The first official motorcycle land-speed record was set in 1920 by the American racer Gene Walker 103.5mph, building on unofficial efforts dating back to 1903. Britain last held the record for six months in 1937 after Eric Fernihough broke 169.72mph on his Brough Superior-JAP. But Italy’s Piero Taruffi took the title by an extra 3.31mph in the October of 1937. The title has changed hands

BUB 7 Streamliner Lives – Rebuilding The Perfect Day

Inside the Rebuild of the BUB 7 Streamliner, as the Race for 400 mph Continues “I’m still hungry, but I’m tired of chewing,” Denis Manning said with a laugh. The 73-year-old always seems to have the perfect one-liner to illustrate a point—in this case, his undying passion for building the world’s fastest motorcycle streamliner. “I knew when I was 15 years old that this was what I wanted to do,” Manning said. “And now, 55 years later!” Fifty-seven years later, to be exact, the perfect moment was upon him and the Team 7 Racing crew on the salt of Lake Gairdner, Australia, at the 2018 World Speed Trials Australia meet. It was the final day of the meet, dawn was breaking and wind was at zero. It was the day the team and rider Valerie Thompson had been waiting for. READ THE FEATURE ARTICLE AT BIKERNET – CLICK HERE

Top 1 Ack Attack became the world’s fastest motorcycle when it set the Land Speed Record of 376.363 mph/605.697 km/h back in 2010. Although no one has beaten his twin-engined streamliner in the better part of a decade, builder Mike Akatiff is not the type to rest on his laurels. Rather than retiring, he is going after 400 mph on the Salar de Uyuni salt flats in the Andes mountains August 3-8, 2017. Don’t miss the video in the full feature, here.
