New bikes from Royal Enfield are likely to be the most affordable ones. Royal Enfield is slimming down to conquer. It plans to make far lighter bikes, offering lower and more comfortable seating positions, to draw youngsters and women to a brand that has hitherto been associated with men who had truly arrived. And these will likely be the most affordable bikes as well from the maker of the iconic Bullet. These bikes will weigh significantly less than the Bullet and be seated lower, styled after the roadster. Due for launch in the first quarter of 2020, these are internally codenamed J1C, and may sell under the Explorer brand. The model has been developed after taking critical feedback from women and youngsters to offer them a bike with comfortable ingress/egress and steer away from the traditional perception of Royal Enfield ‘bulk’, said several industry executives aware of the plans. “While we cannot comment about future product line-ups, we can confirm that at Royal Enfield, we assign huge focus on keeping our motorcycles accessible and approachable to all, in an endeavour to bring more people to experience pure leisure motorcycling,” a spokesperson told ET. The company declined to discuss its product pipeline, features and pricing strategies. Royal Enfield electric motorcycle planned for launch – CEO confirms

This is the first time Royal Enfield has confirmed the development of an electric motorcycle. Launch is expected in the coming years. A Royal Enfield electric motorcycle (yes, you have read that right) has been confirmed to be in the works by the company’s CEO. With the push towards electric mobility reshaping the automotive industry worldwide, manufacturers with little-to-no previous association with EV powertrains have also started to ready themselves for a supposedly inevitable future; Royal Enfield being just one of many others. Vinod Dasari, CEO of Royal Enfield, shares that the Chennai-based motorcycle brand is actively developing an electric motorcycle. Despite the lower sales volume in the year, the company has invested enough capital to make new products for the coming years; electric and regular. Earlier this year, the company had announced an investment of Rs 700 crores towards the development of newer and better platforms. Royal Enfield may pull 500cc motorcycles out of production by 1 April next year

As the deadline for India’s BS-VI transition closes in, Royal Enfield may be in the process of taking a drastic decision regarding its 500cc engine. According to a LiveMint report, Royal Enfield plans to discontinue its 500cc range of motorcycles from 1 April next year when BS-VI emission norms become a mandate in the country. The report further states that upgrading RE’s 500cc engine to BS-VI compliance will make the production of these motorcycles ‘unviable for the domestic market’. The sources close to the development also told LiveMint that the 500cc motorcycles would not be produced for international markets either. The pushrod architecture of the existing 350cc and 500cc engines do not meet the stringent emission norms. As a result, the existing model lineup will be phased out… Royal Enfield plans to restore the 350cc segment with an all-new powertrain as that accounts for the bulk of sales. Meanwhile, it would quit the 500cc displacement – the report quotes the source. Royal Enfield launches six variants of Bullet 350

The new Royal Enfield Bullet 350 variants come priced at Rs 1.12 lakh, bookings begin today across India. New Delhi: Royal Enfield has launched six new variants of the Bullet 350 and Bullet 350 ES, priced at Rs 1.12 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for these new variants have started today, informed the motorcycle manufacturer in a release. The new Bullet variants come with new colours and livery along with contemporary blacked-out design themes providing a wide range of options to the buyers. The Bullet 350, in addition to its existing black colour, will now be available in three new colours – Bullet Silver, Sapphire Blue and the Onyx Black. On the other hand, Bullet 350 ES comes in Jet Black, Regal Red, Royal Blue colour options in addition to the current Maroon and Silver variants. Also, the motorcycle manufacturer has increased its retail touchpoints. As the company claims in a release, it has launched 250 retail studio stores today and plans to launch another 250 over the next quarter in an attempt to expand its footprint in the market. The company has close to 930 existing dealer touchpoints, over 8,800 service bays and more than 900 authorised service workshops. To Beat Slump, Enfield Looks Beyond the Thump

Co to launch a more affordable bike in the 250cc segment, open 350 small outlets in hinterland Royal Enfield, the cult-bike brand from Eicher Motors, is considering a new 250 cc variant to arrest a slide in volumes and market share, and as part of a broader push to make it more accessible to buyers. The Royal Enfield brand had gone off the radar of aspiring youth looking for an upgrade, as enthusiasm dampened somewhat due to an increase in prices of about 8-10% over the last couple of years on account of a transition to BS IV emission norms, a spike in insurance cost and the introduction of a mandatory anti-lock braking system. A slowing economy and about a dozen product launches in the 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh price band also added to the company’s woes. From strong double-digit growth over the last five to six years, Royal Enfield has slipped into a double-digit decline in the last four months. Under new CEO Vinod Dasari, however, the bike maker has rolled out a plan to set up 350 small outlets in the hinterland, apart from considering a new 250 cc bike variant. The 250 cc study is being carried out by the Indian R&D centre, even as the UK Technical Centre moots new, bigger displacement bikes for the global markets. RE is also planning to debut a no-frills bike for all its brands, giving a prospective buyer the choice of personalisation and accessorisation. No silver bullet in sight for Enfield hit by sliding volume

The Eicher Motors stock fell 30 per cent in the past year. The Bullet, it appears, is just not firing on all cylinders at the moment. Royal Enfield (RE) sales are rather soft, and state-wise volume statistics furnished by industry body SIAM show that the bike that defines panache for motorcycle enthusiasts in India is riding through a rather rough patch. Eight states that make up three of every five RE bikes sold locally have reported deceleration. Maharashtra and Karnataka together account for 13 per cent of RE volumes, and these two states have seen a drop in 6-7 quarters of the past nine. Kerala, the largest market of RE, has witnessed volume drops of 13 per cent and 23 per cent in the September and December quarters, respectively. The September decline is attributed to floods. But declines in the December quarter have put the lens on underlying demand. Industry volume growth of twowheelers in south India was 9.5 per cent in the first nine months, up from 5.6 per cent in the previous year. However, RE’s sales volume growth in the Southern states has been underwhelming. The RE management has given production guidance of 8.7-8.8 lakh units for the current fiscal year. However, it is unlikely to be met. Average monthly run-rate of RE in the first 11months of FY19 stood at 69,569 units. To achieve the stated guidance, the company needs to produce 1.04 lakh vehicles in March. This appears to be quite a daunting task given the weak demand cycle. The Street is factoring in volume growth of 10 per cent for FY20, which could be trimmed due to about 3 per cent growth in FY19.
