Vance & Hines Launches New Four-Valve Suzuki Racing Engine

Racing Applications include Pro Stock, Pro Mod and Pro Street Classes https://vanceandhines.com/ February 1, 2021 – Santa Fe Springs CA – Vance & Hines today launched the company’s long-expected four-valve motor for Suzuki GS-based drag racers. The new powerplant will debut at the NHRA Gator Nationals in Gainesville FL in mid- March. Several teams will be competing with the new Suzuki-based motor and a new Vance & Hines-designed chassis at that event. “The scale of this launch is unprecedented in the drag racing world and it highlights our company’s technical capabilities,” said Vance & Hines President Mike Kennedy. “This engine and the cylinder head design are applicable to several racing classes and easily adaptable to every team that is currently running a two-valve Suzuki GS. This launch is a proud moment for Vance & Hines and hopefully will net many victories for our Suzuki riders in 2021 and beyond.” The new four-valve head modernizes the technology in Suzuki drag racing motors. It replaces the two-valve design which was introduced in 1998 and it retains the 1850 cubic centimeters engine displacement. For the first time, Vance & Hines has integrated finger follower technology rather than a shim-under-bucket design in a drag racing cylinder head, which allows for less mass in the valve train and increased RPM. The intake and exhaust port spigots are modular, so they can be adapted to different air boxes and exhaust pipes without redesigning or remanufacturing the head itself. This allows the new head to be used not only in NHRA’s Pro Stock Motorcycle class, but also in the Pro Mod and Pro Street classes. Design credit for the motor, code named “VHIL18504V,” goes to six-time NHRA champion Andrew Hines. The head was completely developed in Solid Works CAD design and was a fully functional running model […]

Dakar 2021: Honda registers back-to-back win in motorcycle class

from https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com Argentine Kevin Benavides, riding a Honda, on Friday won the motorcycle category of the 2021 Dakar Rally becoming the first South American to achieve the feat. Ricky Brabec, the 2020 champion in the motorcycle class, finished second to teammate Kevin Benavides to clutch the first one-two Dakar Rally finish for Honda since 1987. Sam Sunderland, the 2017 champion in the category, finished third riding a KTM. Benavides clinched the title on the 12th and the final stage of the category held on Friday. Honda has now registered a back-to-back win in the motorcycle class. The finish of the final stage was completely overshadowed by the death of the French rider, Pierre Cherpin, who had been in an induced coma since his crash on the 7th stage. “On stage five I was worried because I crashed so fast and hit my head and my ankle and felt a lot of pain. On that day I said maybe the Dakar is finished for me. But I continued pushing. I still have some pain, but at the moment I am more happy than in pain,” said Kevin Benavides after the finish.

King of the Baggers Returns in 2021 With 5 Races

by Daniel Patrascu from https://www.autoevolution.com Last year, the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca was host to a race between baggers for the first time. The event was part of the first-of-its-kind Drag Specialties King of the Baggers event, and this year it’s all coming back with a vengeance. The 2020 event was a major hit, as it was watched online in massive numbers, with millions tuning in for the show. “The popularity of the event was crazy so how could we not do more? We know there are plenty of Bagger fans out there as our videos of the debut Laguna event were watched by millions,” said in a statement MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey. So, this year we’ll be enjoying the event five-fold. The series will be held in conjunction with the 2021 MotoAmerica HONOS Superbike Series, kicking off at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on April 30. Then the newborn series will burn through Road America, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, and Pittsburgh International Race Complex before coming to an end at Barber Motorsports Park in September. “Having five races gives us the opportunity to bring King of the Baggers to fans in several different areas of the country. We’ve also opted to make the series open to any qualified racer, which should bring new teams and new bike builds to the series from the aftermarket and motorcycle dealers who specialize in baggers,” Rainey added. For now, it is too early to say who will be taking part in the coming races, but we reckon most of those present at last year’s event will be on the starting grid once more. The already-held bagger race ended with Indian taking the win with an S&S- and Roland Sands-prepped Challenger ridden by Tyler O’Hara. A second Challenger, ridden by Frankie Garcia, finished in third
