Lowes and Fernandez complete more valuable testing miles in Jerez

Lowes and Fernandez complete more valuable testing miles in Jerez The Elf Marc VDS Racing Team continued its busy March schedule with another constructive two-day test session for Sam Lowes and Augusto Fernandez in Jerez. Pleasant early spring temperatures of 18 degrees and grippy track conditions enabled Lowes and Fernandez to complete a hectic but very positive test schedule as the countdown to round one in Qatar continues. The pair took full advantage of the favourable conditions to complete 317 important data-gathering laps between them, with the main focus on fine-tuning the race set-up of their Kalex machinery. The next track outing for Lowes and Fernandez will be for the one and only official test at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar on March 19-21. That test is immediately followed by a Doha double-header to start the 2021 Moto2 title chase on March 28 and April 4. A busy first day stint of 83 laps gave Fernandez the chance to work on some modified parts made available by Kalex to help with his consistency on track. The Spaniard completed an additional 71 laps on day two and he experimented with different front fork settings to improve front feeling. “We have improved my feeling on the bike a lot” “We have done a really good job over these last two days and it has been a positive test. We have improved my feeling on the bike a lot and tried many things that worked and others that didn’t. But that’s actually a positive because it gives us a clearer indication of the way we need to follow for Qatar. Now I can’t wait to get to Qatar for the final test where it will be important in those three days to work on the small details that we need to be

Erik Buell Says He’s Not Involved in the Buell Motorcycles Revival

by Daniel Patrascu from https://www.autoevolution.com Last week’s announcement of the Buell Motorcycles revival caused a lot of emotion. Although mostly out from the public eye for quite some time now, the name is still entrenched enough in the public consciousness to hint that, had it not been for Harley-Davidson’s poor choices a decade ago, would have been a big player in the industry by now. The revival of the moniker is fueled by the company holding control over it, Liquid Asset Partners (LAP). The comeback was announced by LAP’s Bill Melvin, who hinted at the revival and a flood of no fewer than ten models over the next three years. Those are said to range from dirt to touring bikes, and from dual-sport to cruisers. There’s possibly even an electric two-wheeler in the cards. The official announcement left out any indication of Buell’s founder, Erik Buell, being involved in this. That led to speculation in some circles that the former Harley-Davidson employee might have a role to play. He doesn’t, of course, and made that perfectly clear in an email sent over to Road Racing World. Buell Motorcycles was born in 1983 in Michigan, and by the 1990s, it was already beginning to become part of Harley-Davidson. As usual, the Milwaukee monster messed up a lot over the following decade, and in 2009 it killed Buell as a brand. Erik calls this outcome the result of unwise choices made by Harley’s executives. Having lost Buell, the man moved on to create Erik Buell Racing, but for various reasons, that business failed too, and it eventually crossed over to LAP. Presently, Erik Buell is involved in a company called FUELL, in the business of making electric “urban mobility solution for cities.” He says he has nothing to do with LAP’s announcement

This 1962 Harley-Davidson KRTT Last Raced at Daytona 1968 Is Fully Original

by Bogdan Popa from https://www.autoevolution.com If you’re in the market looking for a small piece of motorcycle history, this is probably the best thing you’ve seen in a long time. Because what we have here is none other than a super-rare 1962 Harley-Davidson KRTT Road Racer motorcycle that last raced at Daytona in 1968. Unfortunately, we’re only provided with just a couple of pictures showing the bike, and while it’s listed as a “barn find,” the seller says the KRTT was with the previous owner since 1969. Currently at its third owner (so you’d be the fourth), the Harley has never been restored, so it’s fully original. It comes with the same set of tires and even the original paint it sported when it left the factory. “Never been apart. Everything on this bike came from factory with it. Probably the rarest bike that left the factory all of its original parts. Never been restored [because] they are only original once,” the seller, which claims they’ve owned the bike for 27 years, says in a post on Craigslist – Click to See it here. This bike allegedly finished second at Elkhart Lake, and given that it comes with a full history since new, everything is fully documented, so you should be able to determine if these details are accurate quite easily. And there’s no doubt you should do this, as everything sounds a little bit too good to be true. The KRTT is Harley’s KR version built for road racing, quickly becoming one of the names dominating every competition. The standard model was produced between 1953 and 1969, with its successor being none other than the super-popular Harley-Davidson XR-750. It goes without saying that such a rare bike can’t go cheap, and this Harley really doesn’t. The seller says anyone

Suzuki Hayabusa The Third Is a New Breed of Hypersport

by Daniel Patrascu from https://www.autoevolution.com Ever since 1999, the world’s roads have been a playing field for a Suzuki motorcycle that was very quick to become the fastest production two-wheeler in the world: the Hayabusa. As we are still getting our bearings in the new year, the Japanese upped the ante even more by launching the model’s third generation. Playing in a category it pretty much defined, hypersport, the new Hayabusa brings to the table an incredible amount of changes, with over 550 new parts being fitted on it according to the Japanese compnay. You can get a sense of what that really means. But let’s take it slow, starting with the looks of the thing. Historically, the Hayabusa distinguished itself by being low, long, and wide, in many instances much more so than anything before it. Those three attributes have been retained for the new generation but modernized with the help of nip and tucks performed here and there. At the front, there are new vertically stacked LED headlights, new angular air intakes, and equally-as-new position lights, while at the rear, the bike ends in straight-edged exhaust and mufflers. In between the handlebars, there are redesigned gauges, which are now located left and right of a new TFT display. Engine-wise, the bike retains the powerplant deployed on the second generation but improves it to such a degree that it makes the third Hayabusa the fastest-launching one yet. Sadly, Suzuki does not back that claim up with numbers, at least for now. We have no reason to doubt it, though, given how it would appear a good chunk of the 550 new parts have gone into remaking the 1,340cc powerplant and the chassis that supports it. It’s got new pistons, camshaft, cam chain tensioner, crankshaft, crankcases, and even new gears
