Women on Enfields And Johnny Lewis Takes On I-70 Half-Mile

By General Posts

(L-R) Zaria Martens, Jaycee Jones and Jillian Deschenes share the first “full-grid” BTR Flat Track podium of 2022.

FIRST OFFICIAL BTR FLAT TRACK FULL-GRID, JOHNNY LEWIS DEBUTS NEW CHASSIS AT I-70 HALF-MILE

Jaycee Jones fires first shot of 2022 BUILD. TRAIN. RACE. Flat Track, Moto Anatomy X takes next step in Royal Enfield Twins FT evolution

Milwaukee, WI (Monday, April 25, 2022) – The Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race. Flat Track program held its first full-grid race of the 2022 season at I-70 Motorsports Park in Odessa, Missouri, where seven returning riders and eight new faces took to the track. The larger field of racers combined with a new American Flat Track venue and some wild weather conditions created a whole new race dynamic, but in the end, there was a familiar face atop the podium—Jaycee Jones topped the first 2022 BTR Flat Track race featuring the full roster, storming to victory ahead of newcomer Zaria Martens and BTR veteran Jillian Deschenes.

The women of BTR Flat Track were looking forward to a test day I-70 Motorsports Park as a final test-and-tune session ahead of the season. But due to strong winds and track equipment issues, the program was abbreviated, only leaving the women with two test sessions. From there it was trial by fire as the BTR Flat Track field took to the grid for the first official round of the season (following the “BTR Select” exhibition at the Volusia Half Mile).

Jaycee Jones led the way from start to finish, never relinquishing control of the eight-lap race. Behind her, the battle to watch was between Zaria Martens and Jillian Deschenes. The two dueled throughout the race, much to the Missouri crowd’s delight, with 18-year-old Martens besting veteran BTR racer Deschenes at the checkered flag.

“It was flawless racing by all 15 BTR Flat Track women, and a great start to the season,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing and Communications Lead – Royal Enfield Americas. “Despite limited track time and the ladies not being able to get ample time on their bikes, they supported each other, offered each other advice and feedback, and went out there and put on a great race. Having 15 women from various backgrounds and personalities all under one canopy, working together with a shared competitive spirit is what we’ve always strived for.”

Through the combination of seasoned veterans and newcomers, and an overall faster field of riders, the night proved to be particularly challenging for Gabrielle Hughes, who was faced with the challenge of improving her lap times in order to line up for the main event. Through teamwork and perseverance, Hughes summoned the fortitude to slash several seconds off her lap times to card her best-ever performance.

“It was a rollercoaster of emotions for me,” Hughes said. “Our seven-session practice the day before the race but cut short after only two. The racetrack was a completely different beast the next day and the rough track terrified me. But Jillian and Zaria helped me get my head straight, and Bree lit a fire under my butt. My awesome team wouldn’t leave me behind and I went out and beat two girls. I am hungry to keep pushing forward, and each race I am going to come back stronger this season.”

Johnny Lewis debuted an all-new Harris Performance-built chassis at the I-70 Half Mile–a major step in the Royal Enfield Twins FT evolution.

JOHNNY LEWIS DEBUTS ALL-NEW CHASSIS

The I-70 Half-Mile also marked a first for Johnny Lewis and the Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield Team, as they debuted an all-new Harris Performance-designed chassis in the Twins FT motorcycle. Lewis is taking on the full 2022 season in the Production Twins class of American Flat Track, where he and the team continue to make progress on the Twins FT.

“This all-new chassis is a clean-slate design, and is the culmination of two years of race testing and feedback from Johnny Lewis,” said Breeann Poland. “Together with the world championship-winning expertise of Harris Performance, this new chassis is much improved, and ready to take on a full season in American Flat Track racing.”

The I-70 Half-Mile turned into the proving grounds for the new chassis, and although the test sessions that were originally slated to take place at the Odessa, Missouri venue were abbreviated due to weather and complications with track equipment, Lewis and the Moto Anatomy X Team were able to put the new chassis to the test.

“We were able to extensively test the new chassis for the first time at I-70,” Lewis said. “Although we had very limited track time due to weather, we did what we could in that time. We were able to find some areas to improve on between now and our next race, the Red Mile, which happens to be the first Mile for Royal Enfield in AFT. We’re feeling pretty excited and confident heading into uncharted territory in Lexington, Kentucky.”

Lewis put in solid laps during the Production Twins main event, where he finished sixth in order to maintain a solid top-five position in the championship. Johnny and the team look forward to taking an important step at the following round—the first Mile race of the season—the Red Mile Doubleheader in Lexington, Kentucky taking place May 28-29.

Royal Enfield at American Flat Track Championship

JOHNNY LEWIS FOURTH, BTR FLAT TRACK WRAPS UP AT CHARLOTTE HALF MILE

Royal Enfield caps off a successful season of American Flat Track racing with Moto Anatomy X and BUILD. TRAIN. RACE.

Milwaukee, WI (Tuesday, October 12, 2021) – The final round of the American Flat Track Championship was more than a season ender for Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield. For Johnny Lewis, it was a milestone in a year of growth, development, and historic race results for Royal Enfield in what was a landmark season for the Twins FT race machine. Lewis sailed to another top-five finish at the Charlotte Half Mile at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina, taking fourth in the Production Twins main event.

Lewis’ sixth top-five finish of the season is a testament to not only his race craft, but to the steady progress he and the Moto Anatomy X team have made with the Twins FT. “It’s crazy to think what we have accomplished in this last year–a prestigious win at the Lima Half Mile and six top-five finishes overall,” said Lewis. “To end the season with a fourth at Charlotte Motor Speedway showed that we have been able to develop the Royal Enfield Twins FT into a competitive production-based race bike.”

“Since day one we’ve had so many people step up in so many ways. I don’t like hearing no, or I can’t. If you can’t, I will. But in my group of people we didn’t ever say we can’t. We pushed until the end. We had amazing support throughout the season from Lloyd Brothers Motorsports, Woody Kyle, Wes Hanes and S&S Cycle. We were able to develop each week thanks to Kent Ford, Lowery Racing, Web Cam, Cometic Gaskets, Scott Saunders and Wiseco. I can’t thank them all enough.”

Royal Enfield BUILD. TRAIN. RACE.

The Charlotte Half Mile was slated to be the fourth and final round of the Royal Enfield BUILD. TRAIN. RACE (BTR). Mother Nature had other ideas, however, and rainy weather forced race promoters to postpone Friday’s schedule to Saturday. The BTR women had other commitments, and unfortunately travel logistics did not allow for everyone to alter their schedules, resulting in the cancelation of the final BTR exhibition of the 2021 American Flat Track season.

“This is obviously not the ending we were hoping for, but this is a reality of racing,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing and Communications Lead – Royal Enfield Americas. “There are elements beyond our control and we have to roll with the punches. This marks the end of the American Flat Track BTR championship, but look for the women to be racing various events throughout the winter.

“I can’t express how proud I am of all the women in this program—watching them all push themselves both on and off the track and grow as racers, and as people. They are truly testament to the success of the Build. Train. Race. program and we are more excited than ever to reach to even bigger heights in 2022!”

The Royal Enfield BTR Road Racing program is already looking toward an expanded platform with American Flat Track next season. An announcement on the 2022 Royal Enfield BUILD. TRAIN. RACE. USA Flat Track program, including details on the application period, is coming soon. Find more information at https://buildtrainrace.com/.

Royal Enfield celebrates first ever Half-Mile Victory

By General Posts

Lewis bested the AFT Production Twins field in dominating fashion.

Milwaukee, Wis (Tuesday, June 29, 2021) – Round seven of the 2021 Progressive American Flat Track Championship proved to be a historic moment for Royal Enfield, as Johnny Lewis and the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield Team were the class of the field on Saturday evening at the Allen County Fairgrounds in Lima, Ohio. The win marked the team’s first victory since the Daytona I Short Track, and the first-ever Half-Mile win for Royal Enfield and the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield Team.

“This weekend gave us the opportunity to showcase what the Royal Enfield Twins FT is capable of,” said Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield rider Johnny Lewis. “The team has been working extremely hard every time out to improve the motorcycle and this result reflects all the effort we’ve put into the program. We couldn’t be happier with this achievement. Thank you to Royal Enfield, the team and all our supporters for backing us.”

Lewis got out to a decent start in the main event but had to work his way into the lead, which took him less than a minute to do. From there, Lewis simply dominated the field, leaving the competition to battle over second as he stretched his lead. A red flag (due to a downed rider) with less than two minutes remaining prompted a restart, and once again Lewis had to make some passes to get out front, but he simply powered his Royal Enfield Twins FT around the outside, reclaiming the lead and taking the checkered flag.

Johnny Lewis’ win at Lima, Ohio comes after a steady season of progress with the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield Team. Following some flashes of brilliance aboard the Twins FT in the 2021 season, Lewis and the team knew they had the engine to be competitive, and worked on fine-tuning the chassis with their focus specifically on the Half-Mile. The classic venue at Lima, Ohio—the only cushion Half-Mile on the American Flat Track schedule—was the perfect stage for this significant victory for Royal Enfield.

“This historic win came at the right moment for the team, for Johnny and Royal Enfield,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing and Communications Lead – Royal Enfield Americas. “We started the season with a new crew led by David Lloyd and have been looking for our first win at a Half-Mile. We look forward to continuing our development and seeing Johnny progress even more throughout the 2021 American Flat Track season.”

Lewis and the Moto Anatomy X Royal Enfield team will be back in action on Saturday, July 24, at the Port Royale Half-Mile in New York. They will be joined by the Royal Enfield BUILD TRAIN RACE (BTR) program as the ladies are looking toward their next exhibition race at the same venue.

Royal Enfield Backs Moto Anatomy American Flat Track Campaign

Decorated flat track racer, Johnny Lewis will develop & race Harris Performance built Twins FT during the 2020 AFT Season

MILWAUKEE (March 4, 2020) — Royal Enfield North America has partnered with American Flat Track (AFT) racer Johnny Lewis and his team Moto Anatomy for 2020. Lewis will develop the all-new Royal Enfield FT, built by Harris Performance, in the Production Twins class at select AFT rounds this year. Based on the INT650 motorcycle, Moto Anatomy will race the FT with support from Royal Enfield, Harris Performance and S&S Cycle.

“This racing effort is unprecedented in Royal Enfield’s North American history,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing Lead – Americas. “Johnny Lewis is a legitimate contender anytime he’s on the track and we couldn’t have picked a better partner in his organization, Moto Anatomy. Flat track continues to garner attention from both a professional and grassroots level and we feel strongly about our extended partnership with AFT and now Moto Anatomy. We are thrilled to bring the Royal Enfield brand to more enthusiasts and this is a great opportunity to do that on a major scale.”

Lewis has risen through the ranks of American Flat Track and enjoyed success at both the amateur and professional levels. Lewis will debut the concept Twins FT, first revealed at the 2019 EICMA Show, at the Daytona TT on March 14, 2020, as a part of the media team. Lewis will then compete with the motorcycle for the first time at the Laconia short track event on June 13 and will run all AFT short track events for the remainder of the season in the Production Twins class. The Royal Enfield FT will also run the Sturgis Buffalo Chip TT and Peoria TT as a wildcard entry in the Super Twins class.

“I’m excited to lead the development of the Royal Enfield Flat Track Twin program in 2020,” said Moto Anatomy owner and AFT racer, Johnny Lewis. “Being involved at such an early stage in a brand’s racing efforts has been a fantastic opportunity. While our focus is on development, there is great potential in the platform and it’s encouraging to see a manufacturer with as much history as Royal Enfield entering AFT. It’s also great to see Royal Enfield helping grow the sport of motorcycling in North America with its new rider initiatives.”

Besides racing, Moto Anatomy will also use the Royal Enfield FT411, a modified variation of the Royal Enfield Himalayan set up exclusively for flat track use, as part of Royal Enfield Slide School Presented by Moto Anatomy. This flat track riding clinic will be available to the public at select events during 2020, giving riders the opportunity to learn the basics of flat track in a controlled environment.
