MINNEAPOLIS, MN – November 8, 2022 – Indian Motorcycle, America’s First Motorcycle Company, today announced its 2023 model year lineup, featuring the new FTR Sport and Indian Challenger Elite, along with various model updates and new accessories across the line. In addition, the 2023 lineup features a variety of new color options, highlighted by vibrant color schemes for FTR and FTR Sport on newly designed tank covers.

“Fully loaded with models and styles for the widest range of riders, the 2023 lineup is a powerful testament to our team’s relentless effort to build and refine a truly comprehensive product offering over the past nine years,” said Mike Dougherty, President for Indian Motorcycle. “This effort has been focused across the line and within each model lineup, as evidenced by the introduction of the FTR Sport – the addition of which creates four unique FTR offerings, each with its own style and personality.”

FTR: An American Original
Headlining the 2023 model year news is the introduction of a new FTR mid-range trim, the FTR Sport. Replacing FTR S, the FTR Sport sits just below the premium FTR R Carbon, but above of the FTR and FTR Rally – creating four distinct trim models for riders to choose from.

Designed for riders to cut loose and enjoy the pure sport of motorcycling, the FTR Sport’s bold aesthetics and sporty componentry, including a number plate, chin fairing and seat cowl, take the FTR’s energetic attitude to another level. A totally unique take on American V-twin performance with an unmistakable, muscular style, the FTR truly is an American original.

New for 2023, the FTR Sport and FTR R Carbon are upgraded with a four-inch round touchscreen display powered by RIDE COMMAND, featuring navigation. Three ride modes (Sport, Standard, Rain) provide unique performance experiences for varying preferences and riding conditions, while Lean Angle Sensitive Stability Control and ABS provide confident, predictable handling in all conditions. The FTR R Carbon separates itself as the premium offering with carbon fiber components, premium seat, fully adjustable Öhlins gold front forks and a gold piggyback shock. The FTR Sport touts a new tank panel design and is available in Black Metallic with Indy Red accents and White Lightning with Indy Red and Black Metallic accents. The iconic Indian Script logo tank panels are exclusive to the FTR R Carbon, which is finished with a classy Cloud Silver and Championship Gold pinstriping.

While primary componentry carry-over for FTR and FTR Rally models, all four FTR models now offer a new sport exhaust muffler, and a retuned front braking system, which provides a firmer feel. Indian Motorcycle also moved the speedometer up for easier viewing and added a new clutch for improved feel and performance. With the new tank panel design, as seen on FTR Sport, and the addition of bold, vibrant colors, the refreshed FTR further broadens the appeal of the FTR lineup to more riders. The FTR is available in Metallic Black, contrasted by Lifted Lime branding with matching rear shock, and Stealth Gray, featuring Orange Burst branding, rear shock and wheels. Finally, the FTR Rally features 19- and 18-inch cast wheels wrapped with knobby tires. The FTR Rally is available in new Black Smoke paint, Desert Earth frame, and the iconic Indian Motorcycle Headdress logo emblazed across the tank. Pricing for the FTR lineup begins at $13,499.

For added personalization, Indian Motorcycle is launching nine new FTR accessories. Through a brand partnership with Gilles Tooling, Indian Motorcycle is offering co-branded pieces, including Performance Adjustable Rearsets, and three Billet components: Bar End Weights, an Oil Cap and a Radiator Cap. Performance Adjustable Levers will also be available in spring 2023. In addition, Indian Motorcycle has expanded its carbon fiber offering with three new pieces, including an Exhaust Heat Shield, Frame Guard and a Sprocket Cover. To enhance comfort, Indian Motorcycle has introduced a durable and weather-resistant Comfort+ Seat, which combines comfortable ergonomics with additional padding where needed most.

Indian Challenger Elite: Ultimate in Style & Exclusivity

2023 LINEUP: A Diverse Range for Any Rider
Touting a wider range of models and options than ever before, the 2023 Indian Motorcycle line offers a model suited for any rider and a host of new upgrades, including:

  • All Thunderstroke and PowerPlus models receive a new clutch – improving the overall feel and forgiveness. This new slipper clutch reduces engine drag which provides a smoother down shifting experience and comfortable ride while improving your ability to maintain traction when facing poor road conditions. Lastly, the larger friction zone and decreased lever effort reduces your clutch fatigue, which can be beneficial in urban areas or when riding in traffic.
  • Indian Springfield, Chieftain, Indian Challenger, Roadmaster and Indian Pursuit models feature a redesigned LED headlight, which improves reach and spread of light — helping the rider see what lies ahead, while also improving their visibility to other motorists on the road.
  • Integrated buttons on the Heated Seats and Heated and Cooled Seats for PowerPlus and heavyweight Thunderstroke models now feature haptics, which allow riders to feel the button’s responsive when wearing gloves.
    Indian Pursuit with Premium Package models now offer Lower Fairing Storage compartments as standard.

Across the line, Indian Motorcycle has introduced an array of new paint colors, including Sagebrush Smoke on Chief Dark Horse and Stryker Red Metallic on Scout Bobber Sixty, Chief Bobber and Roadmaster Limited models. For 2023, Indian Motorcycle is introducing an array of functional accessories. First, in partnership with CruzTOOLS®, Indian Motorcycle is launching three accessories, including two tool kits compatible with all models and an axle adapter for FTR models. To add storage to most models, a new All-Weather Vinyl Tailbag attaches to select passenger seats or luggage racks. In addition, a new Syndicate Heated Seat is available for Indian Challenger models, while a Reduced Reach Kickstand is now available for all Indian Challenger and Indian Pursuit models.

For the Chief line, Indian Motorcycle is launching two new bag options. The Chief Fork Bag attaches securely to the front of the handlebars and is perfect for storing smaller items like gloves, glasses, cell phones or water bottles. The new Chief Bobber Saddlebags are water-resistant and add convenient storage without sacrificing style.

For added comfort, Indian Motorcycle is offering Chief riders an upgraded Comfort+ Solo Seat and a two-up Syndicate Seat. The Comfort+ Solo Seat pulls design inspiration from old-school muscle car interiors. The top is more plush than the stock seat and contours to hold the rider securely and comfortably. The new Chief Syndicate Seat complements the bike’s distinct design, while adding comfort and support for both rider and passenger. The Syndicate Seat is made with a durable, weather-resistant black vinyl that won’t fade.

For Chief passengers, Indian Motorcycle is introducing the Low Profile Passenger Backrest, which complements the bike’s style and adds cushioned support to the passenger’s posterior.

Lastly, the new Quick Release Low Profile Trunk for bagger and touring models is expanding its colorway options. The streamlined Low Profile Trunk will now be available in 58 factory colors.

Initial model year 2023 shipping will vary by model. In the coming weeks, new 2023 bagger and touring models will begin shipping to dealers. New 2023 Scout models will start shipping in December. With some onlookers’ praise for the project, they decided to take their plans to market. Their most famous motorcycle, the KRGT-1, opened up a new segment to the cyberpunk performance V Twin Engine Category. The 1S bike pushes the company toward the sport bike genre with a more aggressive lean angle and sleeker design. Our favorite is Method 143, seemingly an art piece on wheels and ferocious. It has the most attractive rear fairing on any bike we have seen. The team custom fabricates most of the parts in their shop according to the customer’s design ideas and material specifications. Manufactured in the LA facility, this bike is intended to be a premium option for the KRGT-1 Customer.

Isle Of Man TT Announces 2023 Schedule

Two UK Bank holidays should help IOMTT attendees enjoy more racing.

The Isle of Man TT (IOMTT) returned to the Snaefell Mountain Course in 2022 after a two-year hiatus. As expected, drama unfolded over the two-week period, but officials are always searching for ways to make the Tourist Trophy even better. With the aim of enhancing the event’s long-term sustainability by increasing overall visitor numbers, the new 10-race schedule addresses issues identified by IOMTT organizers.

“This research revealed that the existing TT schedule, the Island’s travel capacity, the Island’s accommodation infrastructure, costs factored against the current economic climate, and customers’ changing habits are no longer compatible and do not meet the needs of the event’s customers,” stated MHK Minister for Enterprise Lawrie Hooper.

To optimize the TT’s crowd-welcoming ability, organizers scheduled the opening-day qualifying on May 29, 2023, the U.K.’s Spring Bank Holiday. Authorities also deemed Friday, June 9, 2022, the “TT Bank Holiday”, bookending the racing event with two three-day weekends.

The 2023 Isle of Man TT schedule follows:

Qualifying Week

  • Monday, May 29, 2023 – Morning & Afternoon Qualifying
  • Tuesday, May 30, 2023 – Evening Qualifying
  • Wednesday, May 31, 2023 – Evening Qualifying
  • Thursday, June 1, 2023 – Evening Qualifying
  • Friday, June 2, 2023 – Afternoon Qualifying

Race Week

  • Saturday, June 3, 2023 – Supersport (Race 1) and Sidecar (Race 1)
  • Sunday, June 4, 2023 – Superbike TT

Of course, many IOMTT attendees predicate travel plans based on their work schedules. By recognizing two Bank Holidays over the course of the 2023 IOMTT, organizers hope to increase the economic benefits to local businesses. From hotels to restaurants to pubs, the extended schedule should help Isle of Man commerce to better accommodate visiting sportbike fans.

‘The Island’s current TT capacity is limited to around 28,000 visitors at any one time, with the current visitor curve highlighting infrastructure pressures in the middle weekend,” added Hooper. “In its simplest form, the new schedule aims to sustain current visitor numbers while promoting growth. We expect this new schedule to encourage new visitor patterns and capitalize on capacity, driving an additional 50,000 bed nights over time, representing an additional spend on the Island of £6 million (~$7M USD).”

While most fans know the basics about the motorcycle stunt world, only true daredevils understand just how cool its history is.

Motorcycle stunt riding is a sport involving the acrobatic maneuvering of a motorcycle and sometimes a rider. The invention of the motorcycle stunt dates back to the 1800s, with performances displayed on public roads and in private venues. Motorcycle stunt riding is not always a one-person sport, as iconic teams have been established over the years.

Common stunt riding tricks include the basic wheelie, stoppie, circle, 12 O’clock, Ape hanger, cliffhanger, burnout, hyperspin, switchback, and Christ. Modern-day stunt riders keeping the game alive and thriving include Rok Bagoros, Lee Bowers, Rafal Pasierbek, Sarah Lezito, Emilio Zamora, and Mike Jensen. While fans may be familiar with a couple of things about motorcycle stunt riding, only true daredevils know these parts of its history.

Beautiful Racing Weather at Norwalk

NHDRO’s Midwest Fall Nationals presented by Liguori Drag Racing finished off the Midwest’s largest motorcycle drag racing series’ season in true NHDRO style—family, festive, high stakes fun at unquestionably one of the top-tier tracks in the world: Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

Norwalk was the final event of a 2022 NHDRO season that saw three race days at each and every event, maximizing racer paybacks for their travel dollar in a time of high expenses for all travellers. Champions were determined in all classes following two full points races on Saturday and Sunday, plus the usual NHDRO Friday night shootouts.

Schnitz Racing Top Gas and Shootout
There are no bigger advocates for Summit Motorsports Park than Cleveland’s Adams family, so it is only fitting that Craig and Kevin Adams had so much success at the NHDRO race—including sweeping both Schnitz Racing Top Gas points races.

Craig and his wheelie bar dragbike faced tough competition in Saturday’s final against no-bar racer David Beshara—winner on both days of the recent Edgewater event.

But Craig’s .018 light vs. Beshara’s .047 laid a table that Beshara couldn’t clear, despite running dead-on 8.20 with a 9, and Adams was able to win with an 8.22 at 28 miles per hour less than Beshara.

“Faced some really tough racers, lucky to come out with the win,” said Craig. “Had to race my brother second round in a really tight race.

“Thanks to Dad, Gary Godwin, Kevin, Gavin, Niki and Brian Welch, the Short family, Ligouri Racing, my wife Jill, and Eatmyink for the great coverage as always.”

Mike Puglia was Saturday’s number one qualifier.

The roles were reversed in Sunday’s final, with Craig’s brother Kevin riding a no-bar Suzuki Hayabusa against dragbike racer Bradley Shellhaas—also a member of a racing family.

This time around, both racers had awesome lights, with Shellhaas’ .019 only .001 behind Adams. Bradley broke out by .002 while Kevin ran 8.203 on the 8.20 index—what a race!

“What an awesome weekend with family and friends!” said Kevin. “To be able to race at the best track in the country and what I consider the best motorcycle sanction out there, NHDRO!

“Friday started out slow, losing a tight race in Top Gas Shootout, but got to test our brand new bike on motor and was very successful.

“Saturday, again lost a tight race to my brother in Top Gas, but the good news was he went on and won and I ended up runner-up in Super Comp.

“And for Sunday, wow, what a day to be able to get to the finals of Super Comp and Top Gas and end up winning both against very tough competitors, and made it to the semifinals in Street ET and lost another close race.

“I want to thank Greg and Maria Kubach for being great friends and giving me such awesome bikes to race, Joe Marasco, my dad, my wife Brianna Adams, and my sons Connor and Gavin for all their help and support.”

Friday’s Schnitz Racing Top Gas Shootout winner was Doug Fisher, who bypassed a race at his home track 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan to come race with NHDRO at Norwalk.

Wheelie bar racer Fisher beat no-bar racer Michael D’Addio in the Shootout final. “The bike went 8.202 out of the trailer,” said Fisher, who also went to two semifinals.

“Thanks Richard Gadson for the tuning and pit help. David Beshara said ‘You hired a tuner.’ I replied ‘He’s fam.’

“Thanks also to Donna Fisher for going and Alexis Baker for the great food and support.

“The long rollout got us Saturday and Sunday.”

Defending and once again Schnitz Racing Top Gas champ Jeremy Teasley came up winless in the class on this particular weekend, but retains his championship regardless.

“My plan was to do better in Top Gas, but I ended up with the Super Comp win—just as good but not as many points as I wanted,” said Teasley. “I knew Jeremy England was right behind me in Top Gas, but still squeezed out the championship at the end.

“Want to thank Brian and Niki Welch for the awesome event, can’t wait till next year.”

Sunday Top Gas number one qualifier Ceslie Shellhaas ended up feeling fortunate that her progress through the field was stopped midday.

“I made my Top Gas bye run and lost the right wheelie bar panel,” said Ceslie. “Ran second round of Pro ET and won. Then came up for third round of Pro ET and the bike died twice after my burnout, so I backed out and went back.

“We made some adjustments and the bike started just fine. I went ahead and took the left panel off before heading up for Top Gas second round. I got a rag and started to wipe the bars down and when I got to the side I had just removed, the bottom bar was completely broken. And then after checking the other side again it was starting to crack along the same spot.”

So in retrospect, it was a good thing that the panel fell off, that her bike died in Pro ET, and that she took the other panel off and discovered the crack. Hitting those broken bars in Top Gas might have proven disastrous.

MTC Super Comp 8.90 index
As Kevin Adams has already mentioned, he won Sunday’s MTC Super Comp 8.90 index, beating Greg “Magnet” Mallett in the final. Kevin (also the number one qualifier) nailed a perfect .000 light that left Mallett dazed to an .084. Kevin ran .040 slower than Greg and still won.

Adams runner-upped on Saturday to Jeremy Teasley. Jeremy’s .010 light put .032 on Kevin at the get-go, and Teasley was able to take the win with an 8.96 at only 150 mph to Adams’ 8.95 at 155.

The Super Comp and Pro ET championships were won by Joe Klemme, who also won Saturday’s MPS Pro ET race. “This late in the season and in my career, I was still trying some new things at the starting line and on the track,” said Klemme. “Some of those things helped and some didn’t, but if you don’t try new things you will be just like everyone else.

“My win in Pro ET on Saturday and semifinal finishes in Super Comp on both days was, as always, a total team KPM Racing effort. I would like to thank my teammates Tom Klemme (also Joe’s brother), Tim Genung, and John Mealy for all their help at the shop and on the track. Also thanks to KPM and Ed and Bradley Grothus at Grothus Dragbikes for their continued support.

“Our team’s success this weekend secured the championships in Pro ET and Super Comp. I would like to dedicate these two championships to my late sister Judy Grothus and uncle Roger Klemme, who we lost recently.”

MPS Racing Pro ET
As mentioned above, Joe Klemme won the MPS Pro ET championship and Saturday’s race. Pete Chongris runner-upped, his .035 light no match for Klemme’s .009. Chongris ran closer to his 8.95 his dial-in, but Klemme was close enough to his own 9.28.

Kyle Dolamore won an “all-Dolomite” final on Sunday against his cousin Steven Dolamore. Kyle put .033 on Steven at the tree to pretty well settle this one, as Steven broke out by more in the double breakout race.

“Me and my cousin both actually lost first round and didn’t wanna buy back ’cause we were both frustrated about us messing up the race, and my father talked us into buying back,” reported Kyle. “As I’m putting the body on the bike to head to the lanes, I remember looking at my brother and going ‘I’m about to wear some people and everybody is in trouble and better stay outta my way cause I’m winning this damn race now.’”

And true enough, he did. “This win was special to me because exactly six years ago I won my first race, and that was the Division 3 bracket finals, so winning again on that same day six years later and it being my second win ever was just something special! Along with it being my first ever win at my home track on a dragbike!

“One of the coolest things was finally winning with my grandparents Terry and Hedi Dolamore at the track. My grandfather is the one who got all of us into racing, so finally getting him in my winner circle photo has been a goal of mine since I started racing. And doing it in the fashion of it being an all-family final and the first time we ever did that just put the cherry on top!

“Just want to thank my family for everything they have done and always supporting me, especially my dad Tony for always making sure I have the best equipment possible and always wanting the best for me even if it means he gives up his bike for me to ride that weekend, and my mom Traci. Also like to thank my brother (Michael Maday) and my sister (Morgan Dolamore, recently married so Morgan Moore) and my cousin Steven for always reminding me that I’m a ‘Bad Dude,’ as they say.

“Also wanna give a shoutout to the Bader family for always giving us an amazing track to race at and just the best in the business facility-wise! Also thanks to the Adams family for always being there to lend a helping hand or advice or even a motorcycle at times!”

M2.Shocks 8.70 Quick Street
We’ve read about brothers and cousins winning races at Norwalk, but Marty White is a one-man wrecking ball. Already the defending M2.Shocks 8.70 Quick Street champion, White repeated that title along with the Kevin Dennis Insurance Street ET championship.

White won Sunday’s Quick Street final at the expense of Eric Yost in a double breakout. White’s .031 advantage at the tree laid the table for his 8.696 to beat Yost’s 8.692.

“I couldn’t be more appreciative for my family and friends for supporting me and the whole AWR Cycles team,” said White. “Brian, Niki and the whole Welch family for giving us the opportunity to have so much dang fun, and Tim Hailey for capturing every precious moment! The racing action photos are awesome and the candids with family and friends melt my heart.

“The season was amazing for the whole team. Too many milestones to even mention. To win six races and back-to-back championships in two classes in a two season span is surreal to say the least!

“The old Katana rides like a Cadillac. I’m honored to be associated with AWR Cycles, NHDRO, Page Racing, JTR, the best photographer around, and many others. Keep safe, keep chasing your dreams, and make sure Eatmyink captures it all!”

Saturday winner Jaden Hall put .022 on runner-up Rashad Rowe at the tree, taking the win despite being nearly a hundredth slower on track.

Phil Tinsley and Tom Cooper were number one qualifiers.

Kevin Dennis Insurance Street ET
As already mentioned, double championship winner Marty White also won the Kevin Dennis Insurance Street ET title, sealing the deal with Saturday’s race win over Owen Burdick. Marty’s .029 starting line advantage proved impossible for Burdick to overcome on this particular day.

Burdick runner-upped again on Sunday, this time against Sean Neizmik. Sean didn’t post an impressive number at the starting line—a .127 to Burdick’s much better .038. But his ZX14 ran dead on his 8.97 with a 9, while Burdick’s 9.27 fell way short of his 9.11 dial-in.

“I really appreciate all the hard work Brian and his family put in to making the NHDRO venues a pleasure to race at,” said Neizmik. “I want to thank the Lord, thank my family, and really enjoy having the opportunity to compete against such a talented group of racers.”

Advanced Sleeve Dirty 30 9.30 and Friday’s Delay Box Shootout

Despite Tom Klemme’s two Advanced Sleeve Dirty 30 9.30 finals at Norwalk—winning one—it was Drew Nearhoof that won the championship.

“I’d like to thank a few people,” said Nearhoof. “My papa and uncle Fran looking down from above and keeping me safe. My uncle Dick and father who have let me store my dragbike, pitbikes, & streetbikes at the family automotive repair shop throughout the years. My uncle Kevin (Nasca) who always keeps things light at our pit spot.

“Blood runs thicker than water in our family and this championship would not have been possible without these men blazing the path for me.”

Klemme won on Saturday despite giving up the tree to runner-up Marshall Hutchinson .041 to 018. It was a double breakout, with Hutchinson’s 9.27 more offensive than Klemme’s 9.28.

“I can’t have success without a dedicated team and great pit help,” said Klemme, also Saturday’s number one qualifier. His brother Joe qualified number one on Sunday. “Zero mistakes made by my pit man John Mealy, but I made a few.”

Like going -.004 red against his brother Joe—who was trying to lose on purpose—in Street ET. Tom was trying for the bye the next round but lost the bye he already had.

“I’m still recovering from a sprained wrist and I don’t feel like I’m racing at 100%. I’m happy and fortunate to do as well as I did.”

Which included a win in Friday’s Delay Box Shootout. Tom beat David Beshara in the final.

Tom also did his job at the starting line in Sunday’s Dirty 30 final, posting an .027 to Justin Blackford’s .053. But Klemme was .005 quicker than Blackford when he didn’t want to be—at the finish of the double breakout race.

“This past weekend was an absolute blast at Summit Motorsports Park!” said Blackford. “This is my second year coming out to NHDRO events and it’s always something I look forward to.

“This season, my number one goal was to bring home a Big Check and get my first ever event win. Being able to make it happen on the last day of the last event in front of friends and family, and a lot of the people that helped me get to this point, was an awesome experience and something I’ll never forget!”

Friday Night Shootouts
Friday night is Shootout time at NHDRO, and Norwalk’s weather couldn’t have been more perfect—for all three days and nights, actually.

Buffalo, New York’s Owen Burdick may have come up short Saturday and Sunday in Street ET, but Friday was his as he won the No-Box Shootout, taking the final over Rylan Rowe.

“It was my first time at an NHDRO race and first time racing at Norwalk,” said Burdick. “This is my first full year on my new bike (‘08 Suzuki GSXR1000), so a lot of firsts. I had a great experience all weekend at the races. Great people and the event was run very well. Hats off to Brian and his family.

“As for the racing part, I felt great and the bike was deadly. Decent lights helped, and a little luck as well. The bike was very consistent for me, which made picking my dial-in time not hard at all. And a smooth, fast, and sticky track helped too. I was asked to split the money before the final round, but that won’t ever happen. Go big and fast or go home.”

The old man still has it. Crow Teasley won the Road Course Shootout, beating Chris Tucker in the final. “I just want to thank Joe Marasco for letting me ride the bike, and Brian and Niki for a great event. Had a blast.”

There was also a special Shop Wars Shootout, with speed shops competing against each other in various classes. Jeremy Teasley Racing (JTR) won Road Course and Top Gas Shootouts, while Joe Marasco’s Maximum Street Performance (MSP) won Heavyweight and Grudge. The tiebreaker was two runner-up finishes for JTR and only one for MSP, as the Testa Engines team runner-upped in Top Gas.

“It was a perfect weekend,” said Teasley. “Came in the race not knowing who to put where in the Shop Shootout, but we came together and figured it out to win by one point. MSP put up a great fight.”

VooDoo Grudge
Kevin Dennis isn’t just the Midwest’s greatest insurance agent, nor is he just the sponsor of Street ET. Kevin is also a hardcore racer, and made a big leap at Norwalk. Long time bracket racer Dennis showed up with a new VooDoo Grudge build and promptly won two big races against the most hallowed family in the Grudge biz—the Teasley’s.

Dennis and his “Full Coverage” shot out of the hole like a cannonball for the first race win against Crow Teasley on “Valhalla.” From there it was a race to get the bikes back around to run them again before the track went dark at midnight. But make it back they did, with Dennis sweating profusely from the hustle. It was all worth it, as he took the second one also.

“Really came to the race just to test it out and work on the tune-up, as the bike only had three passes in it prior,” said Dennis. “Once it ran a good number, I decided to let Brian find us a race. It’s always a little nerve racking when you see that you are racing anyone with the name Teasley on their leathers.

“First race was really close, actually. Had to ask Crow who won. When they wanted to rerun, I was pretty surprised since it was so late at night.

“The second race I knew he was going to try to put a light on me hard, but luckily he redlit and on that pass I made my fastest pass ever on any bike.

“It was a ton of fun and I’m sure Crow already has plans for his revenge! Was a great night of racing and the staff at Norwalk prepped the entire track for us at the end of the night. Overall great experience and a great payday.”

There were lots of great grudge races and bikes, including Jeremy Teasley stinging the nighttime air on “Bad Draw.” NHDRO’s Brian Welch picked up a win on “Big Greasy”

Shutdown Area
Friday’s Gamblers’ Race was won by Austin Poole with Rob Neizmik the final round runner-up.

Saturday’s Gamblers’ Race was won by Jeremy Himes over final round runner-up Tony “Toni! Toné!” Roberson.

Richard Gadson got some testing in on his James Johnson-owned, “Stop Soldier Suicide,” Monster 4 valve, George Babor motor, Suzuki Pro Stock Motorcycle.

The event was visited by the international meeting of the Gunfighters Motorcycle Club. Comprised entirely of law enforcement officers, members from all over the world were represented at the event and four of them took to the track on the bikes they rode in on.

Ashley Shellhaas beat Keith Joyce in Saturday’s scooter race, and Les Stimac’s HighRisk Motorsports along with Eric “Vansboy” Yost picked up the tab for every child on the property to get some of Norwalk’s famous pound of ice cream.

Brian and Niki Welch love taking their NHDRO family out for the most fun to be had at the best tracks in the Midwest. “Thanks to everyone for a great season,” said the Welch’s.

This bike was built in classic form by Steve Hannah a 20-year Paughco employee and lifetime biker. The Redhead and I hauled ass to Carson City, Nevada with the briefcase, purchased, loaded and blasted back to the Black Hills of South Dakota.

I usually mess with any purchase unless it’s a restored antique. But this puppy was well built, classic and had chopper class.

With the 2022 King of the Baggers series finale this weekend, we wanted to share the latest “Inside Indian Motorcycle Racing” video. The piece fully recaps the dramatic action at the last round in Brainerd. This is going to be good, like the party of parties. I’ll stay between the white lines as I attempt to cover the rally and my first wild experience after relocating to the Black Hills and available for action every day.

Constant hum of action prevailed daily, with the rumble of V-twins, non-stop shows, concerts, celebrations, parties and jamming bars are just the tip of the chromed mountain leading up to the rally. Last year, my shop wasn’t complete, and I was attacked by the deadly Covid virus. I found myself locked down in my basement dungeon.

Only semi-prepared this year, the rally kept coming like it or not.

Kile Leads Milan Dragway AHDRA Winners

AHDRA All-American motorcycle drag racing provided the mid summer thunder with the Southern Michigan Bike Fest at reborn Milan Dragway on July 29-31, and Bad Apple Racing’s Tracy Kile thundered the longest.

Top Fuel winner Kile wasn’t the fastest dog all weekend but kept the candles lit across the line each and every pass—most importantly in the final.

“Our motor was hurt all weekend,” said Kile. “I was the only guy that went down the track all six passes, and it probably was because I was a little underpowered. 6.60 And .70 was really as quick as that bike was going to run all weekend.”

Kile’s performance problem was a lack of good sealing rings that has plagued the class and it’s enormous pistons. “You know, we’re all struggling with this ring issue. It just ain’t sealing up good. When you come back from a pass, it’s got a bunch of nitro in the oil. You put two quarts in to race, you come back and you take four quarts out. You know that’s just slowing you down.”

Still, Kile’s consistency qualified him number one with a 6.69 at 206 mph.

Defending Top Fuel Champion Ryan Peery found good power and bite on raceday, though, and put down a couple .40s to establish himself as the performance leader.

But when Peery and Kile met in the final, Ryan’s performance lasted only about 330 feet. “The bike dropped a hole first,” reported Peery. “Then idling down the track, the motor stopped completely. The motor cases bearing keeper backed out and locked the motor up. A burnt hole in a valve either caused the initial problem or was a result of the motor suddenly stopping. Good thing it’s only money…”

“I went down the track but I got lucky in the final that Ryan hurt whatever he hurt,” said Kile. “But it takes a little luck to win these things too, you know. Consistency, reliability, and a little luck. So, great weekend.

“I want to thank the track and Harold and Perry, the owners that we worked with. They rolled out the red carpet for us to make this an annual thing. They were just great and went above and beyond what a lot of these tracks you get any more when you get there. The facility was awesome with some great tree coverage.

“I want to thank my competitors. You can’t race if you ain’t got competitors out there to race against, you know, so you always want to give them a shout out.

“And of course, Mary (Tracy’s girlfriend Mary Dangrow, also a racer). I couldn’t even go race without Mary right now, you know. She’s a workhorse, she’s awesome. We had John Wayne (Stephens) pegging me, but other than that, it was me and her starting the bike and sending it up the track six times. That ain’t easy, man, it’s hard. I’m blessed to have her, and she’s an awesome rider.”

2020 champ Rich Vreeland’s bike died after the burnout for round one, handing Peery the bye that round. Billy “Jack” Jackson smoked his tire against Dr. Jimmy “Mac” McMillan in E1, and Dr. Jimmy lost round two to Peery.

Jason Pridemore made a rare appearance with his awesome blown bike, making incredible smoky burnouts before continuing the smoke show in the first 60 feet. And Curtis Heisler was on hand making licensing passes.

Hawaya Racing Nitro Funnybike champion Michael Balch had an easy one this weekend, being the only combination for that class in the house. Still, the dedicated Pennsylvania racer put in a lotta work and a lotta laps.

“Like always, (AHDRA owner) Bill Rowe put on a great event with smooth running classes,” said Balch. “Milan Dragway put out a great surface for us to compete on and overall it was a great event.

“My team went there with an attitude of winning. We wished there would have been more Funnybikes to compete with, but with diesel prices we can understand—it’s a huge cost.

“We made a first hit at 7.50 with the Gainesville tune-up. Second hit cleaned it up to a 7.20, third hit 6.95, and final run of 6.92. I was out of it early because there were no 1000 foot cones. I lifted about 100-200 feet short. It was my fault, not the bike or the track.

“I could not be happier with the performance of my team. John Red Rhea was on the phone with Gregg Dahl and Damon discussing changes together. All the changes they made put me on a great running machine.

Balch will soon be blessed with extra Funnybike competition in the form of Vicksburg, Michigan’s Phil Lower on a Mike Romine-built piece. But on this particular weekend, Lower took the Hawaya Racing Pro Fuel win against veteran racer Rocky Jackson. Lower took the tree .077 to .119 and stayed out front for the 7.78 to 7.96 win.

“We tore up a lot of stuff yesterday, but we were up all night getting it back together, and it paid off,” said Lower, who rides Tyler Wilson’s old bike—freshly unwrapped and clear-coated.

“I couldn’t have done it without my crew,” continued the General Motors retiree. “Mike Romine helps me with the bike and helps me maintain it, Ricky ‘Grizz’ Lee, and my girlfriend Jen Worley. We had a lot of family here because it is a close race, and everybody kind of pitched in and we got it done. And other racers helped a lot because they had the parts.

“I also wanna thank Buddy Foss and Janette Thornley, they helped me out a lot. And Jack Romine also.”

Charging Charley Douglass has a bike to be reckoned with, taking a decisive GMS Racing Engines Xtreme Outlaw win in an all-turbo final. Douglass calmly gave up .058 at the tree to opponent Dwayne “Smokey” Gee before throwing down near-apocalyptic numbers on his way to a winning 7.87 at 177.39 mph. Depending on who you talk to, that pass ranks among the top three or four no-bar Harley passes of all-time—and on a still-new combination.

“I believe I’m third behind Gregg Dahl’s 7.62 or 3 and Andy Simon Sr.’s 7.70 at 182, said Douglass. Then comes Stacey Bortz at 7.90, Mike Motto at 7.92, and Stephane Crete’s 7.98.

Dahl stakes a claim as consistency king with “Ten passes in the .60s in two weeks on local non-pro prep.”

“My Outlaw Xtreme turbo bike has been a very trying experiment,” admitted Douglass, who’s made 15 quarter mile passes on it to date. “I still have plenty more power to attempt to hook up.

“I started the weekend with T-n-T on Friday with no good passes. I struggled trying to keep the rear tire from smoking about ten feet from the starting line. I smoked one clutch pack Saturday trying to take as much clutch out as I could.

“Sunday morning I tried another combination and burnt the second clutch pack of the weekend. Going into first round of eliminations Sunday, I put a fresh Energy One Clutches clutch in and a new tune-up in the MaxxECU from Jesse Brown. We ran an 8.10 with a 1.306 60 foot, winning first round against Victor Gotay. Victor has helped me with tuning and clutch set-up since the end of last year.

“So, I had Jesse tweak the tune-up some and we ran 7.873 at 177 mph in the final against Dwayne. That was my first 7 second pass!

“This was an emotional weekend for the Douglass Racing team. A very good friend of ours, Steve Allstaedt, was laid to rest on Saturday, so this win was in honor of him.

“I want to thank God for keeping me safe and sane. My wife Angel Douglass for being so supportive, I love you. My dad for being my teammate and best friend. My nephew Jacob for helping us at the track. Special thanks to the Ken Browne family for showing everyone a Harley could run with a turbo.

“My youngest daughter, son in-law, and two of my granddaughters spent Saturday with me at the track and that was great also. My “Brother ” Ralph also spent the weekend with us.”

Douglass continued to thank Energy One Clutches, Axtell Sales, Dan Daffner, CP-Carrillo, JB Tech Jesse Brown, Victor Gotay, Andy Simon Sr., SA Racing Steve Allstaedt, Advanced Sleeve, H-D of Lynchburg, Vreelands H-D, R&D Motorsports, Joe’s Parts, Xlxbhorsepower, Chad Hart, and Justin Collier.

Jason Broski might have the best name in racing, but he most definitely has a quick, well sorted out, all-motor Bagger that stays firmly flat and planted from launch to finishline. Broski won Horsepower Inc. Pro Outlaw Bagger against Street Kingz racer Reggie “Hamma” Elliott. Hamma nailed Broski .017 to .062 at the tree, but Broski’s Kibblewhites were opening and closing at wicked pace to carry him to a winning 9.07 against Hamma’s 9.90.

“It was a rollercoaster ride,” said Broski, who unloaded Friday with four 8 second passes in a row. That includes a side-by-side 8 second Bagger pass for only the second time and the first since 2020, according to Broski. “It was me and Victor Gotay, with him riding Dwayne Gee’s bike.”

Broski reported that during Saturday qualifying, making no changes, his bike was losing ET every lap and 4 mph. “After sleeping on it, I made changes for Sunday’s eliminations. MPH instantly came back and ET started dropping.”

In the hottest part of the day with density altitude in the 2800s, Broski made one more lap—an 8.94 that he says is a record-setting ET for an all-motor M8.

“I’m always grateful for the support from Ward Performance, Kibblewhite Precision Machining, and Gardner Racing Concepts.”

Broski also runner-upped to Street Kingz racer and number one qualifier Gee in MTC Pro Comp Outlaw.

The Cronenberger name was omnipresent in AHDRA winners circles of the 2000s, and Brad Cronenberger brought it back at Milan with 11:50 and Universal Fleet & Tire 10.90 wins.

The 10.90 win came against Chris Phipps in the final. Cronenberger took the tree by .032 against Phipps and ran closer to the number to boot. Against Cody Rozeski in the 11:50 final, Cronenberger took the tree by a whopping .092 and was able to coast in well over the index for the win.

“I took a few years off (and) was racing off-road dirtbikes, because that was something I could get my son involved with, too,” said Brad. “I decided to come back out when I saw they were bringing the Junior Dragbikes back. I should have my son in there for Rockingham.

“I really only signed up for the 10.90 class to try and get some seat time on my bike after not racing for so many years. I was fortunate to catch a few breaks along the way and managed to make my way through the ladder.

“The 11.50 class, I ran a few 11.49s on qualifying day, so I knew I was close. I managed to have good reaction times all day and get another win.

“I wanna thank my wife. She’s the one who convinced me to get back out there.”

Louisiana racer Scott Tomsu qualified number one and won Super Stock and V-Twin Powersports Hot Rod Bagger, beating J. Clarks in the HRB final.

John Price took the Zippers Performance Pro Modified win against George Futch, Kimberly DeShields beat Gary Douglass in the Pingel Modified final, number one qualifier John Terry took the Vreeland’s Harley-Davidson Super Gas 9.90 win over Clayton Danford, and C. Hayworth beat Heather Van Fleet in the Super Pro 10.30 final.

L. Stevens won Sunday’s Eliminator final against N. Messina, while Stephen Lacy won on Saturday. Saturday’s Trophy class winner was C. Tipping.

The coolest thing that happened all weekend? That would be the return of Junior Dragbikes and the many laps made by the Hines brothers. More of this please!

A month-long, county-wide scavenger hunt

Everyday on our airwaves, Radio Milwaukee works to help you learn more about Milwaukee. And August 1 through August 26, we’re challenging you to go out and explore our city yourself! “Explore Milwaukee with 88Nine!” is a month-long, county-wide scavenger hunt that challenges you to navigate Milwaukee to complete missions, earn points and, ultimately, prizes.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, search “Explore Milwaukee with 88Nine!” and click “Join.”

The Explore Milwaukee with 88Nine! scavenger hunt is now live with 100+ missions for you to tackle! Stay tuned for new missions released every Friday during the game. And keep your notifications on for special *flash missions* that will pop up through gameplay for a limited amount of time! These will be worth extra points and everyone who completes these missions will be entered to win special prizes!

At our end of scavenger hunt celebration event (stay tuned for details!), we’ll hand out trophies made by Milwaukee artist David Perez aka Wet Paint Chango for the top three players, and the first place player will also win our Grand Prize, generously provided by the Harley-Davidson Museum.
