Three Amazing Motorcycles You Can Buy Brand New for Less Than $10K

by Todd Halterman from https://www.autoevolution.com If you’re in the market for a new motorcycle, you could do worse than these three versatile, cruiser-style rides, and the best news is that you can have any of them showroom-new for under $10,000. And in yet more interesting news, two of the three are American. The 2021 Kawasaki Vulcan S ABS comes in at a wallet-friendly $7,599 and it represents a middleweight hybrid with somewhat brawny underpinnings. While it’s big and powerful enough to appeal to riders who require sporty performance, it also offers cushy ergonomics designed to suit nearly any rider size, no matter their skill level. The Vulcan S is powered by a 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin taken from the Ninja 650 line, and it also boasts a wide range of available adjustments for the seat, the footpegs, and handlebar positions. The 2022 models offer a base-model Vulcan S (sorry, no ABS included), and that’s what makes the 2021 model such an excellent value. For 2021, the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 comes in at the top of the range, and at $9,749, it offers an opportunity to join the HD fraternity at a price that won’t cause hiccups in a tight budget. The Iron 883 does have the Sportster lineage American riders often prefer, and it’s a bit of a throwback with some stripped-down street cred. Featuring a low solo seat height, nearly naked bike bodywork and the venerable 883cc, air-cooled V-Twin, there’s no doubt it’s an HD. And in a departure, it also happens to be the lightest, lowest, and most new-rider-friendly bike in the HD lineup. For your cash, you get low down bars, a low seat height, and a lowered suspension. Unfortunately, should you want ABS braking, you’ll find yourself over the target as that feature puts another $795 on

First Bagger Racing League Race Goes to Harley-Davidson by a Tiny Margin

by Daniel Patrascu from https://www.autoevolution.com On June 27, the inaugural Bagger Racing League (BRL) event took place at the Utah Motorsports Campus in Grantsville. Like in the other series, King of the Baggers, this one was a battle between Harley-Davidson and Indian machines and riders. Unlike King of the Baggers, where riders go after each other in a single race, BRL comprises five classes: Hooligan GP, Big Twin GP, Stunt GP, Premier Class Bagger GP, and Pro Stock Bagger. The eyes of the people on-site for the event were, of course, affixed on the last two classes, which allow entry of proper bagger motorcycles, equipped with a fairing and bags. It is here where the most fierce battles were fought and won. The Premier Bagger class race, which was the main event, went to rider Michael Barnes with Hoban Brothers Racing/DTF Performance Harley-Davidson. He rode a race-prepped Road Glide to the win, ending the race just 0.356 seconds ahead of S&S/Indian Motorcycles’ Tyler O’Hara—both riders take part in King of the Baggers as well, but there Barnes seems not to manage things as well as he did this past weekend. It’s worth mentioning Harley led the field for the entire 8-lap duration of the race, despite the fact the Indian trailed at times inches behind. In the BRL race, O’Hara was the only one on the back of an Indian to compete the race, with all the other eight riders chasing the win on the backs of Harleys. Below you can find the Premier Bagger class race results in the inaugural Bagger Racing League race in Utah. 1. Michael Barnes (Hoban Brothers Racing/DTF Performance Harley-Davidson) 2. Tyler O’Hara (S&S Indian) 3. Cory West (Saddlemen Racing/Slyfox Harley-Davidson) 4. Ben Bostrom (Feuling Parts Harley-Davidson) 5. Jake Johnson (Alloy Art Harley-Davidson) 6. Shane

Indian Motorcycle from 1903 sold for $143K

by Daniel Patrascu from https://www.autoevolution.com It’s been a hell of a ride for those taking part last weekend in the massive motorcycle auction in Las Vegas. The top highest-selling two-wheelers, for instance, were responsible for getting close to two million dollars combined, in a bidding frenzy that seemed to have had no limit. Out of this select team of ten motorcycles, eight of them were Harley-Davidsons, including the champion when it comes to money earned, the $297,000 Strap Tank. The other two were a Vincent Black Shadow from 1953 (sold for $165,000), and this here 1903 Indian that went for $143,000. For all intents and purposes, the Indian is the oldest in this select lot. What’s more important is that for the first 62 years of its life, from 1903 to 1965, it was owned by the same guy, a California motorcycle racer by the name Gus Cheleini. Looking probably just as good as it did 118 years ago when it was made, the motorcycle comes in a dark shade of blue and it is equipped with a tiny 13ci engine and an atmospheric valve that is still working, hinting according to auction house Mecum, which handled the sale of the two-wheeler, that the bike could be “started and ridden.” Part of a select and limited number of bikes made under the Indian name that year, it still wears the first name of the company, Hendee Manufacturing, and features the large gas tank on the rear fender that earned it and its breed the nickname Camelback. Since the death of its first owner, the Indian changed hands a few more times, and was featured in The Classic MotorCycle in 1988, but mostly spent its time out of sight. It’s unclear what the future holds for it, as we are not

Indian Motorcycle Announces Indian Chief Custom Program

Indian Motorcycle is tapping four renowned builders to customize the new 2022 Indian Chief Dark Horse. To showcase the range of the platform, each builder has a signature style that differs from the next. First, Indian Motorcycle is excited to reunite Paul Cox and Keino Sasaki, as the two haven’t teamed up for a project in nearly 15 years. Next, Indian is tapping Go Takamine to see his interpretation of a custom Chief. Lastly, Indian will see how Carey Hart will follow up his first custom Chief with this build. Indian Motorcycle, America’s First Motorcycle Company, today announced plans for three customization projects based on its recently unveiled 2022 Indian Chief. In an effort to showcase the vast personalization possibilities inherent to the Indian Chief platform, three renowned V-twin customizers were selected to produce totally unique interpretations of the iconic motorcycle; including former Indian Larry tandem, Paul Cox and Keino Sasaki, freestyle motocross legend Carey Hart, and creator of “Bratstyle,” the popular brand and globally recognized “throwback” aesthetic for motorcycle customization and restoration, Go Takamine. For Cox and Sasaki, this project marks the first time in nearly 15 years the duo has worked together, dating back to the early 2000’s when they disbanded after the untimely passing of legendary customizer and friend, Indian Larry. “Keino and I have stayed in touch over the years, continuing to work in our own individual styles, but when Indian Motorcycle approached us about this collaboration, the timing seemed right. We both bring unique skills to this project, and it will be interesting to collaborate again,” said Cox. “Initially, I found the new Chief platform to be beautifully designed and thoughtfully engineered in its stock form. It’s tough and clean but possesses a modern elegance at the same time. These are all qualities that I
