by Keith Dooley and Roger Tunsley from ehow.com

Auto garages are full of electrical equipment, gasoline, oil and chemicals, any of which can cause or make a fire worse.

For this reason, it is best that your workshop is equipped with relevant type/s of fire extinguishers to deal with different types of fire.

Fires are classified by the type of material that’s burning.

There’s a broad international agreement on fire classifications in Australia, Asia and Europe.

But the American classifications differ.

Honda Motorcycle bought in 1981 with zero miles in original condition

Honda motorbike bought in 1981 that has zero miles on the clock because it was confiscated by its teenage owner’s father and locked in garden shed goes up for auction for £2,000

  • Honda CB100N was bought 40 years ago but was never ridden by its teen owner
  • Strict father banned him from riding it and it stayed untouched locked in storage
  • After father died, son found his bike in remarkable condition four decades later
  • The 1981 bike is now going up for auction and is expected to fetch up to £2,000

by Katie Feehan from https://www.dailymail.co.uk

A 40-year-old Honda bike with no mileage on it has been rediscovered and is up for auction after the disapproving father of its first teen owner banned him from riding it and locked it away in storage for decades.

The 1981 Honda CB100N was bought brand new by the youngster in his youth while he lived with his parents.

However, his boyhood fantasy of riding a motorcycle never materialised because his strict father banned him from riding it.

Instead the machine was left to languish in storage for the next four decades.

After his father died the unnamed owner, who is now aged in his 50s, was tasked with clearing out his house in Bridgewater, Somerset, and stumbled upon his old but immaculate bike.

He agreed to sell the time-capsule Honda to neighbour Graham Tozer who has now put it up for sale at auction.

The bike still has its original tax certificate with an expiry date of July 31, 1982. The odometre displays the exact mileage of a mere four tenths of a mile.

Mr Tozer, 64, said: ‘I’m a collector of classic bikes and cars, so six months ago my neighbour called me up and said they needed rid of it.

‘He was born in the house and spent all of his life there. When he was a youngster he really wanted his own bike but when he brought it home his dad wouldn’t let him ride it.

‘He’d saved up for such a long time to buy it but his father just said, ‘you’re not going on that. You can stick it in the shed’.

‘Apparently his dad was really strict. He was ex-military and he was the boss of the house.

‘I would have loved a bike like that when I was younger but my dad probably would have done the same thing.

‘To have a motorbike from the eighties which hasn’t been touched is so unique. It really is like the Holy Grail for collectors.’

George Beale, a specialist at Charterhouse Auctioneers of Sherborne, Dorset, said: ‘These bikes were ordinarily used for commuting, so those which are still on the market from the 1980s tend not to be in the greatest condition.

‘But with a little work this one could be like brand new, which is incredibly unusual for something so old.

‘It would be rare to find any vehicle from the 1980s without any miles whatsoever. It just so happens that this young boy’s tyrant father was far more forceful than he was.’

The Honda is being sold with a pre-sale estimate of £2,000 at the Haynes International Motor Museum on October 14.

Sister Wives star Meri Brown fans are surprised she has a motorcycle

by Mona Wexler from https://www.monstersandcritics.com

Sister Wives star Meri Brown surprised her fans with a tidbit of information about herself — she rides a motorcycle!

Meri typically plays it safe when it comes to her lifestyle, so it surprised her fans to hear that she’s a biker.

The 50-year-old TLC star took to her Instagram account on Tuesday, September 14 to touch base with her fans.

Meri told her followers that she was using her day off to get some “random” things done and to “step away” from her plans.

Along with a pic of herself posing with her daughter Mariah’s dog, Mosby, Meri included one of her signature motivational captions.

It read, “Just another Tuesday morning where I get to step away from plans and do something random, like take my motorcycle in for repair…. 😁 (Don’t worry, Mosby and I drove the car for the pick up, I wouldn’t have put him on the bike, just in case you were worried lol!)”

“Working for myself, being in business for myself, making my own business decisions, creating my environment, exploring the world, finding my peace, living with joy, these are all the things I’m grateful for.”

“I’m dedicated to supporting and empowering my family, friends, team members, business partners, and anyone else who wants to own their own business and work toward their own dreams! Because dreaming is where it’s at!”

Upon reading that Meri took her motorcycle to the shop for repair, her fans immediately took to the comments section to make sure they didn’t misread her post.

“Motorcycle?! 👏” one of Meri’s followers commented.

“Haha yep!” Meri replied.

Another one of Meri’s followers asked her, “since when do you have a motorcycle?!”

Meri revealed that she has been riding for at least 12 years when she answered, “@sophiabrionez_ since 2009 I think? Lol!”

One fan commented that they weren’t aware that Meri had a motorcycle (as most of her followers probably felt the same) and asked her, “Wow didn’t know you have a motorcycle! Can we see it ? 😍❤️”

“@robertsbev I should find an old photo!” Meri replied.

Meri found a fellow biker in the comments when a follower wrote, “What kind of bike? Tennessee Harley rider here!! 👍”

Although Meri doesn’t ride a Harley, she noted, “@mbenz1965 Welllll….. a Honda VTX. I’ve had Harley riders tell me, at least you’re trying…. 🤣🤣”

Meri, who’s sporting a shorter new hairdo, recently returned from a vacation in Cancun, Mexico where she used the time to “let go.”

Meri enjoyed time with her LuLaRoe colleagues and shared pics and video of sea turtles being released into the ocean, a highlight of her trip.

Meri will join her estranged husband Kody Brown and her sister wives Janelle, Christine, and Robyn Brown for an all-new season of Sister Wives, returning in November.

Sister Wives fans are curious to see what happens with building homes on the Brown family’s property at Coyote Pass and how they’ve managed to survive living as four separate families. Stay tuned!

Sister Wives is an American reality television series broadcast on TLC that premiered on September 26, 2010. The show documents the life of a polygamist family, which includes father Kody Brown, his four wives (Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn) and their 18 children.

Sister Wives returns to TLC and Discovery+ on Sunday, November 28 at 10/9c.

Former Milwaukee mansion of H-D co-founder William S. Harley was on the market

Former Milwaukee mansion of Harley-Davidson co-founder William S. Harley was recently on the market.

The former mansion of Harley-Davidson co-founder William S. Harley in Washington Heights was recently on the market for the first time in decades.

The home at 4906 W. Washington Boulevard was built in 1916 and designed by architect Charles Valentine. The original estimated cost was $8,000, according to the Wisconsin Historical Society.

The Harley family moved into the home a couple of years after it was built.

Harley, along with his friend Arthur Davidson and Arthur’s brother Walter Davidson, founded the motorcycle brand.

Harley and the Davidsons built their first motorcycle in 1903. By 1913, the company had built almost 13,000 motorcycles.

The vintage Mediterranean revival mansion was listed for sale at $399,000.

The 3,821 square-foot home has six bedrooms and four bathrooms. It also features a sun room, grand foyer, formal dining room, fireplace and indoor fountain.

Throughout the home are hardwood floors, French doors and arched windows.

While the home is spacious (sitting a .28-acre lot), there is a lot of work that needs to be done on it. The electrical system needs updating. The bathrooms are all vintage tile with pedestal sinks.

The current owners lived in the home for decades and moved out a couple months ago. The mansion will be sold in “as-in” condition, according to the listing.

The property went under contract Tuesday, said the listing agent Mike Argeropoulos of Riverwest Realty. Argeropoulos said the buyer intends to preserve the home.

Argeropoulos said more than 200 people came to the open house last weekend. Multiple offers were received, Argeropoulos said.

The last time this property was on the market was 1976 when John and Camille Shaw bought it for $44,500, according to city records.

The Final Escape to the Badlands

A buddy of mine came over yesterday. He’s from the old school Chicago streets and he’s a riddled with wild stories. He just bought a book about the Hangmen MC from back in the ’60s. For a minute I met and rode with some Hangmen and Outlaws, in Long Beach. They weren’t associated with the gang back east.

In the early club days, a group of riders would just pick up whatever club name they thought was cool and run with it. Sorta the deal applied to the Berdo Hells Angels and the bay area group.

Former home of Triumph Cycles founder up for grabs

By General Posts

by Elis Sandford from https://www.coventrytelegraph.net

The building has been brought back into use. The former home of Triumph Cycles founder Siegfried Bettmann is on the market having been converted into a series of luxury apartments and bungalows.

Located in the Stoke Park area of Coventry, the Victorian villa has been transformed as part of a huge development project.

The former home was sold by Coventry City Council to property developers three years ago having fallen into disrepair.

Since then, it has been restored and now exists as 14 one and two-bedroom apartments and garden bungalows.

It is described as being located in a leafy conservation area of the city.

According to the developers: “Each property has been individually designed with an emphasis on lifestyle and space. All properties have luxury fully fitted SieMatic kitchens, large living areas, good size bedrooms and fully equipped Porcelanosa bathrooms.”

Apartment sizes range from 840 sq ft to 947 sq ft, the bungalows from 430 sq ft to 915 sq ft and the mews range from 431 sq ft to 721 sq ft. All properties come with either one or two parking spaces.

Prices range from £180,000 to £360,000 and the Help to Buy Scheme is available for first-time buyers. All properties will be owned on a shared freehold basis.

What has been said about the properties?

Laura Wilson, New Homes Manager at Loveitts Estate Agents, said: “Witnessing this stunning Victorian villa – notably known as Siegfried Bettmann’s former residence – being restored to its former glory first-hand has been something of a marvel.

“Elm Bank’s clear historical significance coupled with its beauty as a property makes it a hugely sought-after location for any home hunter. The combination of the Victorian feel with modern furnishings truly epitomises luxury living – and all are up for grabs for a reasonable price.

“The development exudes the elegance of the Victorian era. All the properties on the site have held their unique character, retaining their original sash windows, brickwork and high vaulted ceilings.

“The jewel in the crown of the property is the bungalow which emulates the feel and style of a stately home with many of the original features retained including eight murals painted on canvas in the pre-Raphaelite style by artist Oscar Mancine, the original fireplace and parquet flooring still as it was nearly 100 years ago – just without the eye-watering price tag.”

History of Elm Bank

Born in 1863 in Nuremberg, Germany, Siegfried Bettman moved to Britain in the late 19th century and settled in Coventry. Soon after he founded Triumph Cycle Company which became one of the most famous motorcycle marques in the world and established Coventry as the home of the British cycle trade.

Bettmann lived at Elm Bank from 1905 until he died in 1951. Within those years Ramsey McDonald, a British Prime Minister in the 1920s, visited him at the property twice in 1925.

In 1952 the building was donated to the Coventry Education Committees and was used as a teacher’s clubs and resources centre until it moved in 1974.

In 2015 a blue plaque was erected by the Coventry Society that marks the property as the home of Bettmann.

The Harley-Davidson Ride Home Is How You Properly Celebrate Freedom

By General Posts

by Elena Gorgan from https://www.autoevolution.com/

Ask anyone about Harley-Davidson and probably the first word you’ll hear out of their mouth is “freedom.” This is what the Ride Home is all about.

Even for those who don’t ride or have little knowledge of the Harley-Davidson brand (or bikes in general), the image of the Harley-Davidson rider is that of a man’s man (or woman’s woman, in the case of female riders). Throughout the years, the brand has cultivated this image of the rugged outlaw, of the rebel who forsakes the urban environment for the open road and the sense of ultimate freedom.

While the “outlaw” image has been turned into a cliché by the Hollywood machine, the rebel label still holds water. And it’s for and by these rebels that the big Ride Home was born into reality. The most recent edition, the 2018 one, solidified the event as the biggest of the kind in the world – and Harley-Davidson’s status as a leader in the biker community.

All motorcycle groups and gangs have that brotherhood / sisterhood approach, but it is only Harley that can boast such a loyal following as to go on a cross-country pilgrimage every 5 years, just to honor the Harley-Davidson spirit.

The Ride Home is a tradition that started in 1988, when the company celebrated its 85th anniversary. To mark the occasion, management rented out the front half of the Milwaukee SummerFest grounds, and the city of Milwaukee welcomed bikers from all over the world. They had no idea what to expect or how this event would snowball into something this impressive.

As you probably know, Harley-Davidson was founded in 1903 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by the Davidson brothers and their friend William Harley (with some help from another friend, Henry Melk). It is one of the two American motorcycle companies to survive the Great Depression (the other being Indian), and a legendary brand that, though it’s taken several financial hits in recent years, remains a leader in the industry.

That first year, bikers from across the U.S. rode to Milwaukee to celebrate the milestone together, and they have been doing so every 5 years since then. As noted above, the 2018 edition was the biggest ever, with Harley-Davidson really pulling out all the stops to turn it into a memorable experience. Not that it wasn’t memorable before then.

However, for 2018, Harley-Davidson got more involved and organized 4 separate rides (from Seattle, San Diego, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Portland, Maine), virtually helping bikers from all 4 corners of the country to get to the Mecca of biking. For those still feeling rebellious but on a smaller scale, organized tours by Harley-Davidson authorized dealers were put together, offering anything from overnight accommodation to guide tours and special events. Imagine going on a cruise, but way more awesome because it’s on a Hog.

Also in 2019, the oldest existing Harley-Davidson club held a separate celebration in their hometown of Prague, the Czech Republic, drawing over 60,000 bikes. It paled in comparison to the 500,000 bikers that descended onto Milwaukee and partied over Labor Day weekend.

Every edition, the Ride Home culminates with special Harley-Davidson events (a visit to the official, local Harley-Davidson museum, rides through biking county, meetings with dealers and custom bikes shows), parties, gatherings, cookouts, vendor demos and other outdoor fun activities, which is why it’s also called Harleyfest. Some also refer to it as HarleyMania because of the Harley chaos it brings into town for the duration of a weekend.

However, the Ride Home is really about the ride. Sure, riders love bonding with like-minded individuals and sharing their passion for Hogs with people who can relate to what they’re saying one hundred percent, but the highlight is the thousand-miles ride.

As one rider explains in the video below, you ride in a group but are alone with your thoughts. You move fast but get to take in everything around you through all senses, with nothing in the way. Whatever hardships may (still) come Harley-Davidson’s way and whatever faults it can be found guilty of, this is one thing it has managed to deliver, short-lived as it might be: that near-impossible feel that you can have it all.

Motorcycle community helps Belen Veteran after fire

by Stephanie Chavez from https://www.krqe.com

BELEN, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s been a tough few months for a Vietnam Veteran who lost his home to a fire, but his luck is turning around. Saturday morning dozens of men and women from the motorcycle community stepped up to help him out.

Daniel Romero has come a long way since he lost his home in a fire back in September. For months he and his dogs have been living in devastating conditions, with no heat, or water.

Romero says he’s never felt more alone in his life. But now the motorcycle community is showing him he’s not alone.

Saturday morning bikers from all around the metro, who heard about Romero’s situation, helped him clean up his property.

Dozens of men and women, along with the Veterans Memorial are helping him get the property ready for a new trailer, that is being donated.

Romero says he never expected the outpouring of support, but it’s nice to have the help – so he can get back on his feet again.

Billy Joel’s motorcycle collection vandalised

by Bang Showbiz from http://www.contactmusic.net/

Billy Joel’s beloved 12 motorcycles were trashed when a thief broke into his home over the weekend.

Bill Joel’s motorcycles were trashed when a thief broke into his home over the weekend.

The ‘Piano Man’ hitmaker called police on Monday (27.01.20) morning when he discovered someone had obtained access to his house in Long Island and damaged his property.

Nassau County police told TMZ 12 motorcycles and a home office on the property had been vandalised and it seems that the burglars smashed through a glass door leading into the garage.

It is unclear whether anything was stolen or whether Billy was at home at the time of the break-in, which took place at some point between Saturday (25.01.20) and Monday.

The 70-year-old singer – who is a known bike enthusiast and even owns a nearby motorcycle story – gave a statement to police and they are currently investigating.

Billy previously insisted he’ll never retire because he has the ”greatest job in the world”.

Asked if he’s considered retirement, he said: ”I have the greatest job in the world. You get up there, you make a lot of noise, girls scream, and you get s**tloads of money. Are you f***ing kidding me?”

But if he does decide to quit performing, the ‘Just the Way You Are’ singer already knows what he wants to happen in his final shows.

He continued: ”Now, I do have an idea for a farewell tour.

”The stage is a living-room set: couch, TV, coffee table, food. And there’s bulletproof glass between me and the audience.

”Then I come out and lay down on the couch. I grab the remote and start watching TV.

”The crowd after a couple minutes goes, ‘F**k this’, and starts throwing s**t at the glass.

”I’ll have created a bond between me and the audience where I know they will never pay another nickel to see me again.”
