by Bandit, John, Frank R.I.P. and Lee Clemens with photos by Weed We Started with Box of Parts and Pieces A friend, the notorious Deadwood John, called recently about his 1960 Panhead roller project, sort of a basket case on wheels. The engine still remained in the frame and a glide front end was in place, but not much else. He wrote to Ron the shop owner in Alaska and said, “What about the transmission?” Ron who ran this shop for 40 years was an old friend. Semi-retired he was willing to help with all aspects of the build, so he sent John a box of transmission parts. John tried to hand it to his engine rebuilder who rightfully turned him down. I’ve been around 4-speed transmissions for 50 years and rebuilt one in 1971. Kinda fucked it up but made it right. 100 word fiction contest continues…. #100WFC Nap Time by Jeffrey with illustration by Wayfarer “Your friend passed out.” Sissy, a redhead supermodel bartender at the Buffalo Chip, said to Salas. Salas, looking at Ronnie, whose face was on the table, a dozen shot glasses surrounded his head said, “You’ve got to be shitting me. We’re staying at the Throttle; he can’t ride for hours.” “Come with me, I’m on break till 8:00, he can sleep it off at my cabin.” Sissy said. Salas laid Ronnie on the concrete porch as Sissy entered her one room home. She reopened the door, her naked body got Sala’s attention. “Want to come in?” Salas whispered, “I love you, Ronnie.” * * * Like Jeffrey’s fiction? Well, all of us motorcyclists have one or one million reasons to ride. What about the rest of ’em? What practical, utilitarian reason and purpose could one recommend to a person who doesn’t ride a motorcycle or does not even know how to ride a motorcycle? Convenience : Its smaller than a car, gee whiz! Whiz past in smaller lanes and country roads too. Savings : Costs less to own and maintain. Yes, the engine and power consumption is less as well. So you get more bang for your buck, more miles per gallon. Friends among strangers : Motorcyclists seem to have a community irrespective of year and make of their vehicle, unlike most car enthusiasts who have limited engagement of car or travel club / group. Just wave and see the enthusiastic response from a biker. Natural Joyride : Its a natural anti-depressant. Many pilots have mentioned riding a motorcycle as being the closest thing to flying. Plus, your senses have no distraction and thus no worries while riding. Next Level Gaming : Well, how about learning off-road or endurance riding? Compete with friends or as an amateur. Skill development : You learn to be more handy with mechanical breakdowns. Plus learning to ride a motorcycle will boost your motor skills, mental agility and self-confidence as well. Travel light, move more : More adventurous way to pursue tourism, weekend getaway, a picnic at the park or beach, or just ride to the nearest gym. And for the millennials — all of the above is true and applicable even for your electric motorcycle ! * * * * Get There Faster, Click & Get the Bikernet.com Free Weekly Newsletter
Doggone life of the furry government servant with inputs from Hot Air Cold Love at https://hotaircoldlove.substack.com/ Apparently, dogs are not detectives. This thought crime just got solved. So, are all the decades of man’s best friend working alongside in forests and mountains, in rain and sunshine, in war-zones and disaster rescue efforts, the hound that will follow “his master’s voice” to hell– all just myth, legend and an old husband’s tale? As per the research and the statistics, the dog’s days of working as a police dog are over. Maybe now — the customs officer will have to smell your luggage and bark orders if deemed unfit for boarding your flight. Maybe its the humans who are causing the loss of canine jobs (which is my gist of the new report mentioned below)?? Can you imagine all the working animals replaced with humans instead of machines? No more canary in a coal mine. No more snakes eating rats in paddy fields. No more ox ploughing farms, no more donkeys or mules carrying fool’s gold (also called simply as a fool), no more horse carriages nor armed cavalry, no legionnaire crossing deserts on a camel…. So what would you write? A western or a historical fiction or a scifi or a satire or just adopt a rescue dog to play with during writer’s block? Well, he could take you out for a walk and we know that’s always good for creativity (New Yorker story link). Anyways, chew on this news for now! Police Say Dogs Help Solve Crimes. Little Evidence Supports That. In 2020, Salt Lake City abruptly terminated its canine unit for pursuing and apprehending suspects. Not much changed. https://undark.org/2023/07/24/police-say-dogs-help-solve-crimes-little-evidence-supports-that/ * * * * * * * * * * * * Send us your 100 word fiction and win
