Yamaha Motor First to Use Green Aluminum in Japanese Motorcycles

Will gradually adopt low-carbon aluminum in the drive toward carbon-neutral materials Yamaha Motor announced today that it has reached an agreement with an aluminum ingot supplier for the procurement of green aluminum, and began using it as a raw material for parts in Yamaha motorcycles in February 2023. This is the first time for green aluminum to be used in Japanese motorcycles and Yamaha Motor plans to gradually expand its usage in models going forward. “Green aluminum” is aluminum that is refined using renewable energy sources to emit around 60% less CO2 in its manufacture compared to traditionally refined aluminum. Of course, the percentage of less emission by renewable energy depends per manufacturer. Aluminum parts account for 12% to 31%. of the total vehicle weight of a motorcycle, so adopting green aluminum is one effective approach for reducing CO2 emissions from the raw material manufacturing part of a product’s life cycle (falls under Scope 3 Category 1 emissions for supply chains). Through the development of its engineering and production technologies and expertise, Yamaha Motor has actively pushed the use of recycled aluminum, which now comprises some 80% of Yamaha Motor’s aluminum usage. This introduction of green aluminum is meant to complement this and will be employed for parts that still cannot be manufactured with recycled materials. As a first step, Yamaha Motor will utilize green aluminum for certain parts in its large-displacement and off-road competition motorcycles, and Yamaha Motor plans to expand the number of models using the material in the future as available supply volumes allow. In line with the Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050, the company is aiming to achieve carbon neutrality throughout all of its business activities—including its entire supply chain—by 2050. To realize this, Yamaha Motor has set a goal of switching to 100% sustainable

Warm Weather Cancels Snow Outlaws Round 2

Snow Outlaws snowmobile drag racing series — race cancellation announcement CANCELLED event: STM Powersports Snow Outlaws The Pioneer / Long Lake Shootout originally scheduled: February 17-18, 2023 where: N1690 County Highway M, Sarona, Wisconsin, USA It seems that the phrase “hottest show” in snowmobile drag racing is being taken too literally. Following “hot” on the heals of a brutally cold Friday night session on Rice Lake, an unseasonably warm Wisconsin has forced the STM Powersports Snow Outlaws series to cancel their second round of 2023. Originally scheduled for February 17-18 on Sarona’s Long Lake, bad ice there had Snow Outlaws planning a return engagement at Rice Lake. But even that is off the table as warm, sunny days are thinning Rice Lake’s ice and producing no new snow. So the world’s quickest nitro, alcohol, supercharged and turbocharged sleds and the teams that race them will have to wait until March 3-4 and the Weenie Roast World Finals at Lakewoods Resort in Cable, Wisconsin. Pro Outlaw, Pro Xtreme 55, and Pro Mods will all converge for the legendary Weenie Roast festival for high speed thrills and late night swills. Team owners and riders such as Chris Connelly, Jeff Ratzlaff, Mike Allen, Dominick Ernst, Brian and Corey Sullivan, Alec Gibas, Lance Flathers, Ethan Erhardt, Jeremey Hannen, Kyle Shilts, Samson Exhaust’s Mike Baverstock, Matt Musselman, Samantha Martin, Tom Brennan, Ryan Rowe, Andy Gosch, Casey Down, Anthony Tondryk, Blake Saltzman, Tyler Stelton and more will race the Lakewoods 500 foot track. Chad and Jenny Nyhus regret that even the Snow Outlaws track-building magicians can’t conjure up a race track without snow and ice, but look forward to welcoming their drag racing family back to action at the Weenie Roast in March. * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Harley-Davidson pulls Facebook ads, severs ties with Tennessee dealership over racist posting

by Rick Barrett from https://www.tennessean.com Harley-Davidson Inc. has pulled its Facebook ads and severed ties with one of its dealerships in response to hateful comments made on social media. Hundreds of companies, including Harley, are pausing Facebook advertising this month as part of a larger boycott. “Racism, hate or intolerance have no place in the Harley-Davidson community or anywhere — in person or online. We are pausing our Facebook ads in July to stand in support of efforts to stop the spread of hateful comment,” Harley says on its website. The world’s largest manufacturer of heavyweight motorcycles also severed ties with Abernathy’s Cycle in Union City, Tennessee, following an alleged racist posting on the dealership’s Facebook page. Screen shots, shared on social media, showed it said, “I’m sick of this black lives matter,” and those involved in the protests should go “back to Africa and stay.” Dealership owner Russell Abernathy II denied making the Facebook post and said he rejected its content. “And by extension, Abernathy’s Harley-Davidson have and always will be welcoming to all riders regardless of race. The derogatory nature of the comment in no way aligns with my personal beliefs or that of Harley-Davidson Motor Co. It personally saddens me that this post has caused such wide-reaching pain to those that have already been subject to so many social injustices. I vow to make certain that Abernathy’s Harley-Davidson provides a positive environment of diversity, equality and inclusion for all,” the dealership says on its website. But for now, anyway, Harley says Abernathy’s “will no longer be part of our dealer network.”

Bikernet Staffer Attacked by Facebook Staff

Promoting Gun Rights and Motorcycle Clubs got me into Facebook Prison. See attached Screenshot. Facebook has blocked me from posting anything for 3 days for sharing the Bandidos Texas story. Like I said, politics, climate, guns, etc are all best outside of motorcycle business if it is online business. Offline business such as Bandidos MC can survive this bulshit, we can’t. I will focus on the Blog content or an article for the Cantina and wait for the three days to pass. Its the weekend anyways so maybe I will ride the Enfield instead. –Wayfarer, banned but not dead.
