115-year-old Motorcycle dealer to ride into the sunset

by Warren Scott from https://www.heraldstaronline.com WINTERSVILLE — John and Kim Neidengard said preparing for the Feb. 27 closing of their 115-year-old family business is a bittersweet experience. After selling Harley-Davidson motorcycles and related gear to hundreds of area residents, they are looking forward to spending more time riding together on the road and visiting their adult children and grandchildren. But the couple of 23 years said they will miss seeing their regular customers, working with others to organize poker runs that have raised thousands for charity and carrying on a legacy culminating in the state’s oldest family-owned Harley-Davidson dealership. Kim admitted she became a motorcycle fan after meeting John 28 years ago, noting his love of cycling started at an early age. “I worked here probably since I was 12,” said John, who noted it was common for children in family-run businesses to help out “as soon as you were old enough.” “As soon as I graduated from high school, I went to full time,” he said, adding he never thought of doing anything else. John said in that regard, he was much like his father, John F., who had worked for his father, G.H. Neidengard, a machinist who opened the family’s first motorcycle shop at 137 South Third, Steubenville. John said G.H. was a friend of the first Steubenville man to own a motorcycle and quickly fell in love with them. Early motorcycles were little more than bicycles with motors, noted John, but they offered low-cost transportation at a time before Henry Ford’s Model T made automobiles affordable to most people. They also were a form of entertainment, as motorcycle enthusiasts participated in hillclimbs and races that, in the days before radio and television, drew many spectators. John said the first shop was quite large, with second story apartments […]

Tucker Road Show Update

Tucker Road Show Update: Training Extended Through February, Events Moved to Fall 2021 Tucker Powersports announced today that the Tucker Road Show, a dealer training program that culminates in four celebratory events for powersports dealers, has rescheduled the events for the Fall of 2021. The online training portion of the Tucker Road Show, the Virtual Road Show, is extended through the end of February, with many of the participating dealers already exceeding Tucker’s expectations for completion of the product-focused online courses. In addition, Tucker is adding several additional rewards for dealers who have aggressively engaged in online training and is also allowing dealers to earn credits toward lodging and on-track racing experiences at the Road Show events. “This change to the Road Show schedule is disappointing, as we are planning the events to be a huge ‘thank you’ to Tucker dealers,” said Brad Turner, Tucker’s VP of Sales. “Our hope is that by moving the events to Fall of this year, we’ll avoid local limitations on gatherings and encourage even more dealers to attend.” “Our dealers and our suppliers have had a tremendous response to Tucker University and our online training programs,” he continued. “We’re confident that hundreds of dealer employees completing thousands of hours of training will improve the experience of every customer who shops at a Tucker dealer this year. In that way, the Tucker Road Show has already had an impact.” The locations of the four events, Texas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway and Kentucky Speedway remain the same. The exact dates are expected to be announced in the next few weeks. Featuring the most powerful portfolio of parts, accessories and apparel brands in the powersports industry, Tucker distributes top brands and offers its own brands, including Answer, Biker’s Choice, BikeMaster, Bully Locks,

Rockstar Harley-Davidson donates $50,000 to local children’s charities

On December 12, 2020, David and Charlyn Veracka representing the entire Rockstar Harley-Davidson family, presented a check for $50,000 to local children’s charities that are beneficiaries of the annual Paul Sands Memorial Slaw Dog Invitational golf tournament, now in its 24th year. Two years ago, the Veracka family added Rockstar Harley-Davidson, formerly Six Bends Harley-Davidson, a mega 54,000 sq. ft. motorcycle destination located off of I-75 and Daniels, to their growing list of motorcycle dealerships across the country. They have since purchased a home in Fort Myers and look forward to getting more involved in the Southwest Florida community. “We love children and enjoy supporting the community where we live, work and play,” said David and Charlyn Veracka. “Our family and the Harley-Davidson family feel it’s our responsibility to give back to our community and those in most need.” In 2020, many fundraising events were canceled due to the pandemic, which has placed a huge financial burden on local non-profits who rely on those funds to provide much needed services in our community. “Organizers thought long and hard about canceling the Paul Sands Memorial Slaw Dog Invitational for the first time in two decades because of the pandemic but quickly realized that it was more important than ever to go forward with the event,” says Scott Fischer, owner of Scott Fischer Enterprises and co-host of the event. “Non-profits need our help more than ever and we can’t let them down.” Thanks to the generosity of Rockstar Harley-Davidson, sponsors, and golfers, the 24th Annual Paul Sands Memorial Slaw Dog Invitational will go on as planned to provide essential funding to Blessings in a Backpack of Southwest Florida to feed food insufficient children on the weekends throughout the school year; Paul Sands Memorial REIS Scholarship Fund at Florida Gulf Coast University to

PROVO, UT (November 20th, 2020) – Vanderhall Motor Works released a dealer development growth update, announcing the addition of 33 new store locations with several key international dealerships. With the additional spike of demand associated with the release of the Navarro, Vanderhall is gearing up by adding distribution points and expanding their factory footprint, doubling their current plant size. United States store locations have grown to 75, with 15 additional locations internationally. “The excitement around the brand has never been higher. Recent events could have tempered demand for our product, but the opposite has happened. People need an escape, an opportunity to explore and Vanderhall gives them that in an organically socially distanced manner,” Vice President of Dealer Acquisitions and Sales, Jay Omanson. Vanderhall dealers, in addition to the future Navarro, are excited to be able to offer two new premium model variants in 2021: the Venice GTS (New for U.S. Dealers) and the Carmel GTS has been added to the model lineup. Harley’s ride with Hero may leave its dealers in the lurch

by Lijee Philip from https://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com Dealers point to the mid-sized bike Street, which accounted for 70-90% of sales in upcountry and metro markets and has been out of production for more than a month. Harley-Davidson, which exited India in September, may have firmed up a manufacturing and distribution agreement with Hero MotoCorp, but the fate of its 33 dealerships spread across metros and smaller towns remains unclear. Dealers point to the mid-sized bike Street, which accounted for 70-90% of sales in upcountry and metro markets and has been out of production for more than a month. A section of Harley-Davidson dealers said continuing with many recently opened showrooms may not be viable, especially in smaller towns and in metros including the National Capital Region and Bengaluru, which have several such outlets. “We would sell at least 20-25 motorcycles a month. Now, it is down to single digits. With no sight of Street coming back and the launch of a mid-size motorcycle from the Hero-Harley combine at least a couple of years away, dealerships feel they need to be compensated for the investments made or margins increased to sustain operations,” one of the oldest Harley-Davidson dealers said on condition of anonymity. “As stated in our earlier announcement, Hero MotoCorp will sell and service Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and sell parts and accessories and general merchandise riding gear and apparel through a network of brand-exclusive Harley-Davidson dealers network in India,” a Hero MotoCorp spokesperson said in an email. “We don’t want to comment on anything further at this stage, as all specific details with regard to the transition process will be worked out in due course of time.” “We will get back as soon as we hear from the global team,” Harley-Davidson said. End of the road for Hawkesbury’s legendary Harley Davidson dealership

from https://www.cbc.ca For 41 years, Goulet Motosports a gathering place for bikers, non-bikers alike An iconic motorcycle shop in Hawkesbury, Ont., has reached the end of the road after a ride that spanned more than four decades. Goulet Motosports, a Harley Davidson dealership, will close Oct. 31. “It is with nostalgia that I write this but also with pride to have had the chance to lead a retailer that has grown so much in our small town,” store owner Sophie Goulet wrote in a French post on the company’s Facebook page on Thursday. “What a wild and exciting ride it has been, meeting wonderful people, attending meetings, travelling to many cities and much more.” Goulet, who took ownership of the family business from her parents in 2001, said the decision to close wasn’t linked to the performance of the dealership, but is the result of weak regional demand for motorcycles. The news sent shock waves through the small town around 95 kilometres east of Ottawa and beyond. Hundreds of people responded to the Goulet’s Facebook post, with many expressing their sadness and sharing stories of visiting the store. Yves Charlebois, who has been working at the dealership for eight of its more than 40 years, said it served as a gathering place for bikers and non-bikers alike. “Just to think about that, the fact that … this place is going to be empty and nothing in it and no customers and no bikers coming in town, I just can’t get my head over it,” he said. “It’s much more than a dealership.” Goulet Motosports is well-established in the community, sponsoring community events such as the Hawkesbury Bike Fest, which brings together Harley enthusiasts from far and wide. The dealership also raises money for local institutions, such as the Hawkesbury General

Harley-Davidson to offer US dealers smaller selection of motorcycles

by Reuters from https://nypost.com/ Harley-Davidson is reopening its factories this week at lower production rates and sending dealers a narrower range of motorcycles, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. The US motorcycle maker, which closed its US plants in March due to the coronavirus outbreak, may not ship any additional new motorcycles this year to about 70 percent of its 698 dealers in the country, the report said. The company did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment. Harley would reopen its plants in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and accelerate production in phases that would be limited to bestselling models and palette of colors and without customizable features for the rest of the year, the report said. The company has failed for years to increase sales in the US, its top market, which accounts for more than half its motorcycles sold. As its tattooed, baby-boomer consumer base ages, the Milwaukee-based company has found it tough to attract new customers. To make matters worse, the pandemic has further dented demand as Americans stay at home. In April, then-acting Chief Executive Jochen Zeitz, who has since taken a permanent role at Harley, told investors about plans to cut costs and “de-emphasize” some of its unprofitable international regions. Jochen and team have been working on a new five-year strategic plan here to revive sales, which the company plans to reveal in the second-quarter earnings update. Harley has also moved the launch timing of new models to the early part of the first quarter from August to better align with the start of the riding season. That provided some boost to its US retail sales in the first quarter. Harley’s annual dealer meet, usually held in August, will now take place early next year.
