Brief history of Daytona Beach’s Bike Week

By General Posts

A history of beer, bikes, cole slaw and ‘rowdyism’

by C. A. Bridges from www.news-journalonline.com

Bike Week, now marking its 81st year, may not be your grandfather’s — or even your great-grandfather’s — bike rally. A gathering for motorcycle race fans, a drunken party, a biker brawl or a family vacation destination, Bike Week has been a lot of things over the years.

It’s our Mardi Gras, our Fantasy Fest, our Carnival. It’s a portable, 10-day street party of motorcycles and biker lifestyle.

Vance & Hines Launches New VO2 Falcon 90-Degree Air Intake

By General Posts

Aggressive style, industry leading performance for Harley-Davidson Motorcycles

NOTE: The new VO2 Falcon and recently announced FP4 are available to consumers at Vance & Hines’ two locations(Daytona Harley-Davidson and Daytona International Speedway) at Bike Week in Daytona Beach.

Santa Fe Springs CA – March 4, 2022 – Vance & Hines today introduced the newest addition to its expanding lineup of air intake products with the announcement of the VO2 Falcon, a 90-degree, high performance intake system with fitments for most late-model Harley-Davidson models.

With motorcycle customizing trends moving toward an intense, performance-focused look, the VO2 Falcon gives bike owners the aggressive style they seek and four different finishes to make it special.

The VO2 Falcon is a cut above other 90-degree intakes with its attention to detail. From its slant-nosed oversized filter for higher volume air flow to its precision machined billet aluminum mounting and integrated breather assembly, it looks like it belongs on a rider’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The system comes in four finishes, show-quality chrome, ceramic matte black, and two eye-catching carbon fiber choices; high-gloss traditional weaved carbon and matte, forged carbon, a compound originally developed for use in high performance sports cars and is making its first appearance in the V-Twin world.

The VO2 Falcon isn’t just for style. The shape of the unit extends the air intake track, allowing the VO2 Falcon to outperform the leading 90-degree units on the market for both horsepower and torque.

“Air intake systems are our fastest growing product line,” said Vance & Hines President Kennedy. ” They offer customers a chance to personalize the look of their bike and are the start of creating that high performance motorcycle that we all love to ride. The VO2 Falcon makes a strong statement about what’s inside the heart of the bike and the rider.”

Vance & Hines VO2 Falcon models are available in four fitments: Harley-Davidson Milwaukee 8 Touring and Softail models, Harley-Davidson Twin Cam models with fly-by-wire throttle, late-model Harley-Davidson’s with cable-actuated throttles and late-model Sportsters. Suggested retail price is $449.99 for chrome and black, $549 for the carbon fiber models.

Vance & Hines recently introduced a collection of VO2 air intakes that recognize veterans, the Military Power Series, and offers a full line of air intake products with dramatic looks and great performance.

About Vance & Hines: The Vance & Hines brand has always been about enhancing the exhilaration of the motorcycle ride. It started over 40 years ago, when Terry Vance and Byron Hines were two young enthusiasts in the fledgling Southern California motorcycle drag race scene.

By General Posts

Grand Rapids, MI – Buell Motorcycle is back and unveiling yet another future model at Daytona Bike Week 2022. On Saturday March 5th at high noon, Buell will unveil the new Baja DR (Dune Racer) test prototype in their booth at Destination Daytona. The Buell Baja DR will be the world’s fastest production dirt bike, built right here in America.

“This is a pivotal moment for American motorcycles and really puts Buell on the map. We are on track to build the world’s fastest and solely American-built production off road bike,” said Bill Melvin, CEO of Buell Motorcycle Co. adding, “less than 1% of the world is covered with pavement, the Buell Baja DR is designed to dominate the other 99.7%. It will give riders the freedom to go anywhere in the world, faster and with more power, harnessing our 1190 engine. The Buell Baja DR is a beast, elevating the brand to even greater heights, and will bring passion back for American-built motorcycles.”

Buell’s entry into the off-road segment won’t go unnoticed by the competition. The Buell Baja DR takes its design inspiration from Buell’s success on the American Hillclimb racing circuit with 2X World Champion Logan Cipala on board. Buell has posted videos of the race prototype on their Instagram page. The 1190 flies through the air, while racing in only first gear!

The production Baja DR model specs and features are: 175hp liquid cooled, 72-degree V-twin engine with 101 ft lbs. of torque, trellis frame, adjustable swing arm for a 66” to 70” wheelbase, and industry standard 37” seat height with 26.75 degree rake. The Buell Baja DR will be unmatched at the top of the market for speed and performance, while clearly signaling the New Buell will not be strictly on-road any longer but going off-road too.

Reservations for production slots for the Baja DR model will go live on March 5th at 12pm EST (noon) and cost just $25. Estimated retail for the model will start at $19,995 with production planned for 2023.

Video: TMC Dumont is a 300hp motorcycle fitted with a Rolls-Royce aircraft engine

By General Posts

by Jahla Seppanen from https://www.themanual.com

When you’re a retired Formula One driver, what else can you do in your free time except build mind-bending concept motorcycles? In the case of Tarso Marques of Brazil, that’s exactly what he’s doing with the insane TMC Dumont motorcycle.

Yes, it’s still a concept so, no, you can’t drive it yet. In fact, you might be wondering how it even works because the construction shouldn’t make sense in real life.

This hub-less bike swaps a traditional car engine for a 1960s Rolls-Royce aircraft engine, creating an absolutely sick design with a body aesthetic that is futuristic, svelt, and should definitely be in the next 007 movie.

Anatomically, the aircraft engine is positioned where a standard motorcycle engine and fuel tank would be, but takes up an enormous amount of space. Basically, as much as a full frame, radiator —the works. The massive 36-inch wheels are essentially spoke-less and completely open in the center, so with the 300-horsepower engine, we’re hoping the brake disk and caliper have something to hold on to … because we can’t see it.

Based on the low-riding profile of the seat and engine, it’s questionable how the bike could sit above the ground, but it does. At least, the concept does. Just pray for a road without speed bumps.

Some motorcycle enthusiasts have questioned the safety and turning abilities that would result from having the back “wheel” so close to the rider — hello, wedgie or mega backside tire burn — and have called the bike “impractical.” That being said, TMC Dumont drove away with the “Best of Show” award at the 2018 Daytona Bike Week.

This isn’t the first time a motorcycle fanatic has strapped an airplane engine to their hog. Back in 2013, the Red Baron bike featured the 150-horsepower, nine-cylinder Rotec Radial engine used in WWI-era planes. However, in terms of pure looks, we’ve never seen anything like TMC Dumont. The motorcycle has been compared to everything from a piece of art to a Tron bike — ultra-sleek, and record-breaking.

Previewing the other passion projects Marques is developing with his brand Tarso Marques Concepts makes us mildly jealous, somewhat shook, and overall excited to finally get back out on a bike.
