Bajaj-Triumph Frankenstein Baby

Triumph decided to counter Royal Enfield’s might in the sub-750cc segment by attacking its homebase. They decided to tie-up with Bajaj who have successfully launched KTM and Husqvarna bikes in India. However, the last time Bajaj challenged Enfield’s cruiser segment by ridiculing Enfields as ancient clumsy elephants, they failed miserably and the viewers were disappointed with the dismal method of launching the new Bajaj long-distance bike called ‘Dominar’. Since then, the Dominar brand of Bajaj is the black sheep in the family which no one talks about and no one really wants to buy. It would be a big surprise if these two new proposed Frankenstein babies of Triumph and Bajaj can dent anything in Enfield ‘s lineup. It is forever expected to be launched ‘soon’. It missed its deadline to be showcased at EICMA where Royal Enfield shined again as a sole saviour of two-wheeled automotive segment from India. Most likely, the Bajaj-Triumph franchise / partnership will just grab the market-share away from Honda 350 and Jawa 290. Honda 350 is available at only a handful of Big Wing Dealerships. Jawa 290 has poor customer experiences for their authorised service centers. Worse still, it will dilute the great brand image that Triumph motorcycles already enjoys in India with decent sales of their models YoY. Hell, they are bigger than Polaris and surely more popular than Honda or Kawasaki with Triumph’s range of models, including classic retro styling, adventure-tourer, racing finesse, off-road ready models and more. Monster Energy Rider Cameron McAdoo Earns a Podium Finish

Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Rider Cameron McAdoo Earns a Podium Finish at Seattle SX

March 25, 2023 | Lumen Field | Seattle, Wash.

Foothill Ranch, Calif. (March 26, 2023) – The Monster Energy® Supercross Championship traversed the United States to the reach the west coast for Round 12 from Seattle, Washington where Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Cameron McAdoo kept his closest rivals in check by securing another podium finish while Carson Mumford showed great potential en route to an eighth-place result in his season debut. In the 450SX Class, Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Jason Anderson overtook several of the world’s elite to claim fourth place and Adam Cianciarulo settled for eighth place after challenging the leaders early in the race.

A week of steady rain showers in the pacific northwest bore out fear of a notorious mud plagued Seattle SX, but the hard work of the DirtWurx track crew, and a bit of help from mother nature, ultimately delivered a well-manicured racecourse for the best supercross racers in the world to compete on. When the 250SX riders took the track, the speed and precision of Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Carson Mumford quickly drew attention. Making his debut for the 2023 season, Mumford asserted himself as a top contender by finding his rhythm and logging the fourth fastest lap (52.286) of the 250SX Class. Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Cameron McAdoo too rivaled near the top of the leaderboard throughout qualifying and logged the fifth fastest lap (52.309).

When the gate dropped for 250SX Heat 1, Mumford rocketed his KX™250 toward the first turn and secured the official holeshot before being edged out of the lead entering Turn 2. Mumford applied pressure to the leader for the opening lap before taking control of the lead position on Lap 2. The new addition to the Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team showed promise as he led the next several laps in commanding fashion until he eventually settled for a second-place finish.

In 250SX Heat 2, McAdoo made quick moves in the opening lap to pass his way into second position. By Lap 3, however, McAdoo found himself in a hotly contested battle with the current championship points leader. McAdoo thrilled the crowd as he raced hard and refused to surrender the position. On Lap 4, the two riders came together and both crashed in spectacular fashion. After swiftly remounting and pressing on to the finish, McAdoo salvaged a fourth-place result.

The Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki duo of McAdoo and Mumford launched out of the gate in the 250SX Main Event and while McAdoo emerged from the first turn in fourth, Mumford was shuffled to outside the top-10. McAdoo moved his way into third place on the opening lap and set his sights toward the lead. Meanwhile, Mumford began a steady climb up the running order from 11th at the end of Lap 1. As the race progressed beyond the halfway mark, McAdoo overtook second and maintained pressure on the leader. The front three riders separated themselves from the rest of the class, but never split from one another by more than a few seconds. With only two laps remaining, a costly mistake from McAdoo caused him to relinquish second position and, although he challenged to take it back, he ultimately finished the race in third. All the while, the No.52 KX™250 of Mumford continued to log steady laps as he made clean passes to earn himself a respectable eighth place finish.

“As a racer you can never be too upset with a podium result but, I know I can be up there fighting for wins and I feel like we were just so close again this weekend. I had a strong Main Event battle with RJ and we kept Jett honest the whole race, but we were a small tick from really getting into the lead position. It’s a game of small gains right now and I’m not settling so the whole team will keep striving this week with the focus on taking the top step of the podium.” – Cameron McAdoo

“Overall, it was a positive first race for me with the Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team. I’ve dreamed of riding for this team since I was a kid, so there was a conscious effort for me to manage expectations throughout the day and to not try to go for too much too soon. That said, I was able to qualify fourth out of the B practice session and battled for the win in my heat race. I’m happy with where my speed was and how the bike handled on such a torn-up track. In the Main Event, I ended up riding pretty tight after mid-way, which is not ideal, but is a bit to be expected with all things considered. I focused on continuing to hit my marks and came through the checkered in eighth. The speed I had early was definitely promising and it was good to bring home a steady result inside the top-10 to get the ball rolling.” – Carson Mumford

The Monster Energy® Kawasaki duo of Cianciarulo and Anderson continued their recent tear through the morning qualifying sessions as both riders urgently mastered the rutted track. After studying the ideal lines with the team, Cianciarulo logged an impressive 51.191 lap time in the final session; the second fastest lap of the day. Anderson was only fractions of a second behind as his 51.621 lap time earned him third in qualification.

A mid-pack start in 450SX Heat 1 meant that Cianciarulo would have his work cut out for him in the short six-minute qualification race. The No.9 KX™450SR rider executed with tact and precision through the opening lap to overtake the competition in rapid succession. By the completion of the first full lap, Cianciarulo was already up to third position. The front four riders matched qualification pace as they remained in tight lockstep for the remainder of the race. When the checkered flag flew, Cianciarulo crossed the line in third.

In 450SX Heat 2, Anderson launched out to a strong start and was only narrowly edged out for the holsehot. Anderson challenged for the lead through the opening laps until he was on the receiving end of contact with another rider on Lap 4 and consequently crashed. After rushing back to his bike and regaining his pace, Anderson finished out the race in fifth place.

The Monster Energy Kawasaki riders raced out to another strong start in the 450SX Main Event with Cianciarulo running in fourth on the opening lap and Anderson pursuing in sixth. In an impressive display of speed, Cianciarulo surged forward into a multi-lap battle for third which would see him overtake the defending champion Eli Tomac and challenge Ken Roczen before a couple of minor miscues shuffled him back to fourth. Cianciarulo maintained a high pace to defend his fourth-place position, keeping the current championship leader at bay behind him until Lap 8. As Cianciarulo dropped back, Anderson charged forward to meet him on the track and the two Monster Energy Kawasaki riders rivaled over sixth and seventh for several laps in the middle of the race. Anderson prevailed in the battle and went on to track down two more positions for a fourth-place result at the checkered flag. Meanwhile, Cianciarulo settled into a consistent pace through to the finish for eighth place.

“During the Main Event, the track was really tricky with a ton of deep ruts, but I felt like my KX™450SR still gave me the ability to push the pace. While a better start would have certainly improved my race, it wasn’t a bad night as we made good progress and I kept the fight going all the way to the checkered flag. I definitely want to be finishing on the podium and, ultimately, challenging for wins again so, I’m still focusing forward on making gains in supercross.” – Jason Anderson

“I felt comfortable during qualifying and was able to attack the track to put together the second fastest time. It was nice to show that pace again and rival at the top of the board. In the heat race, I was a little back from the start but worked my way into the top-three before the finish. In the Main Event, I started up front and managed to pass my way into the top-three again. The race felt similar to last weekend with all of the top guys contending for those first few positions, so it was encouraging to move my way forward through that group in the early stages. The end result is similar to what I’ve had recently, but there are a lot of positives to take away from the weekend.” – Adam Cianciarulo

5-Ball VL,XA,FL Knucklehead build, Part 3

by Bandit with photos by Weed

I’m facing a number of challenges. I’ve also faced some pressure lately and I don’t like to associate pressure or stress with building motorcycles. Hell, I moved to motorcycle Nirvana in the Black Hills to duck the bullshit California riders face daily.

I thought I could just tinker in the shop in Sturgis for hours unencumbered, without anxiety or worry, especially in the winter. I don’t have a deadline for this bike, what gives? Hell, I don’t know. I started to lean on myself to get shit done, so that’s why I’m writing about it, so I face the music and stop. Okay, did it work?

Goddammit, this puppy is going to be cool or I’ll die trying, right. Hang on for the next episode.

AHDRA Opens Motorcycle Drag Racing Season at North Florida

event: AMA/AHDRA Don “DJ” Johnson Spring Nationals
when: March 17-19, 2023
where: North Florida Motorplex, Fountain, USA

The AMA/AHDRA All-American motorcycle drag racing series opened the 2023 season with the Don “DJ” Johnson Spring Nationals presented by MTC Engineering at Fountain, Florida’s eighth mile North Florida Motorplex.

While all gasoline classes ran to completion, Top Fuel and Hawaya Racing Pro Fuel will finish at the next event in Rockingham after a series of shutdown area incidents were a cause of concern for AHDRA’s Bill Rowe.

The deciding moment was when “Jimmy Mac” McMillan ran off the end of the track in his Top Fuel semi, skipped completely over the sand trap and into the woods when his throttle stuck partially open and his chute failed to deploy. McMillan suffered two broken vertebrae and two broken ribs in the accident.

Waiting at the ready line was 2021 champ Ryan Peery for a bye to the final. Peery had his own shutdown drama in the first round of qualifying when his front tire exploded as soon as he touched the brake. His chute also didn’t deploy and Ryan dug deep into the sand.

Peery will face current champ Tracy Kile—who thundered away to an advantage that he held to the stripe for a 4.25 to 4.38 win against McMillan—when the final is run at The Rock.

The Hawaya Racing Pro Fuel final will also run at Rockingham, with champion Sam White facing “Bad Apple Mary” Dangrow. White’s 4.61 against Jason Leeper gave him lane choice against Mary, who ran 4.91 while beating her teammate Walter Halonski.

Nitro Funnybike was able to run to completion, as champion Michael Balch never had an opponent that could fire the bike and stage.

“It was a good weekend for me and a good weekend for the AHDRA,” said Balch. “There were some great looking and well-running machines there, there was just not a big turnout in my class.

“Nitro is an expensive class to run and it was a far drive for most, so I can understand the turnout. Diesel is expensive. But make no mistake—no matter how far the race is, my team will be there. You will not beat me while sitting home watching (videos on the internet.)

“My crew was there, all hands on deck. My crew chief Steve Rominski worked closely with my mentor John Red Rhea and Eli mixed the fuel to the percentage they deemed necessary. The tune-up was great but we did battle an air leak this weekend.”

Still, the team Autolite/Millenium Industrial Services Nitro Funnybike went home with a win. “The other Funnybike that was there broke in the water box, so it was an easy win for us. I would much rather have stiff competition and compete, but I feel we can and will win every event.

“We broke the intake scoop in the last qualifying round and Jay Turner Racing was nice enough to loan me one so I could continue racing. I truly appreciate the sportsmanship.

“It was a scary ending with my good friend and a man that I look up to, Jimmy Mac, going off the track. But that man is a gladiator and a warrior and I have faith that he will heal up 100% and be back as soon as he can be.

“I thank my sponsors, the track photographers, Billy Rowe and the entire AHDRA staff. Also the crew at North Florida Motorplex for doing a fantastic job, and I look forward to the next race.”

There were a few classes that seemed to be starting too early in the spring for some competitors to be ready, including GMS Racing Engines Xtreme Outlaw. Mike Motto turned the event into his own record-setting session, shattering the eighth mile, no-bar, street tire Harley-Davidson record but falling short of the 4 second pass he was looking for.

“Our goal was to set another record,” said Motto. “We reset the eighth mile record on Saturday with a 5.06 at 146 mph. Then Sunday we had a slightly better track and reset the record again at 5.03 at 147.

“What a weekend for the season opener. Despite Mother Nature (cold, cloudy, windy weather) we got it done! We will be in Rockingham next to see if we can better what we have started.

“I want to thank everyone at GMS Racing Engines. Not only have we developed great friendships but we have put together the GMS Racing Team, which will be unstoppable!

“Gregg (Dahl of GMS) said I rode like an animal, but that’s because Gregg and Damon gave me a BEAST to ride! Every single person at GMS has contributed to this project and I would like to thank them all.

“Also I would like to shout-out to the others who help make this machine what it is. Thank you Energy One Clutches, R&D Racing Transmissions, Renegade Fuels, NGK spark plugs, Bandit Belt Drives, and MTC Engineering.

“Most of all we had a couple friends go down this weekend, so let’s keep them in our prayers for a speedy recovery. See you all at the races!”

In addition to McMillan’s injuries, John Cabral wheelied over backwards on his turbo Bagger during qualifying. Cabral was back at the track on raceday with no broken bones.

Motto’s GMS teammate (and brother-in-law) Chris Hoppe won Zippers Performance Pro Modified handily as final round opponent Kimberly “K-Charm” Deshields is learning her way around her Pro Mod bike. Hoppe thanked GMS Racing Engines.

2022 Pingel Modified champion Deshields raced her way unopposed to the winners circle of the brand new Axtell Cylinders Super Modified class.

Pingel Modified fared a little better, and saw Kentuckian Jeff Workman take out Nate “St. Patrick’s Day” Carnahan. Workman’s .132 light was enough despite Carnahan’s .056 as Jeff put up a 6.14 to Nate’s 6.28.

“Everyone was struggling to find the right tune and traction for the conditions we were in,” said Workman. “I got lucky on this one to hit the better tune.

“Like to give thanks to Powermist Racing Fuel for their continuing support, DBR Fabrication for an amazing frame and exhaust, and Pingel for sponsoring the Modified class.”

Tim Whitehead and AHDRA champion Scott Tomsu shared the bagger bounty at North Florida, with Tomsu beating Whitehead in the Pro Bagger final and Whitehead reversing the outcome in the Bagger Streetbike final.

Tomsu ceded the tree by .039 to Whitehead in the Pro Bagger final, but drove around for the win. “Took home a first and a second in the bagger classes on my foot-shift bike while tweaking on the new turbo bike (pictured). It (the turbo) is going to be a rocket when we get it where we want.

“I want to thank my sponsors—STFU Motorcycles, Ward Performance, Gardner Racing Concepts, Lyndall Brakes, and all my supporters in the STFU Crue.”

Whitehead bit back in Bagger Streetbike, despite once again getting left on (.162 to .214 ) by Tomsu. This time Whitehead drove around, taking the win with a 7.37 at 98.21 to Tomsu’s 8.46 at 80.16.

“Wow, what a weekend!” said Whitehead. “I was in four different classes and took third in Eliminator ET, runner-up in Pro Bagger, and won Bagger Street.

“Was in the Street finals with Scott, who has a really fast bagger. STFU had a little trouble and I was able to make an A-B pass for the win.

“This is my second year running AHDRA. I was runner-up in Hot Rod Bagger in 2022, so to start the season off with a win is pretty dad-gum amazing!

“I’d like to thank the good Lord above for watching over all of us, my mom and dad, and rest of my family and friends for all the support.

“Also Area 51 Customs, Cherry&Irwin Trial Lawyers, Renegade Virtual Trade, The Glass Doctor, #itsallgood, Xtreme Shotz Productions—XSP, and Harley-Davidson of Dothan.

“I dedicate this win to my late grandmother ‘Mama Bobbie’ that we lost last June. Never give up on your dreams and always stay humble!”

Ken Strauss’ .014 starting line advantage was enough to push Chris Hoppe out the back door in a double breakout 5.95 Top Eliminator race.

Brian Harris seemed to have Super Pro 6.60 in hand until he crossed the centerline against Mike McManus.

“Luck of the Irish on St. Patricks Day racing weekend,” said McManus. “I got lucky every round!

“My bike runs low 6 seconds, so trying to slow down to 6.60 is really hard. So first round I won ‘cause my opponent had a motor or shift issue. I went 8.99 at like 48 mph in the semi’s but got lucky again. My opponent broke out with a 6.599 on my 6.70ish —wow could not believe it!

“So on to the the finals. I get lane choice and take left lane. So my opponent gets the winlight, but as he is chicken winging me he crossed centerline and takes out the eighth mile cone and MPH cone, gets DQed and I get the win. Wow, luck of the Irish weekend!

“I want to thank Eatmyink, 41 Performance, Mac Tools, and St. Patrick!”

AHDRA champion Brad Croneberger nailed a 7.02 to 7.10 against Casey Smith in the Universal Fleet and Tire 7.00 Pro Eliminator final. “Spun the tire leaving and couldn’t make the distance up,” reported Smith.

“It was a real challenging race weekend with the changing weather conditions,” said Croneberger. “The cold and the strong tailwind made it real difficult to stay in the index all weekend.

“Then they had some issues with the qualifying, so we ended up having to draw chips for first round matchups and right off the bat I had to race Chris Phipps—who I usually end up racing in the finals.

“Then things didn’t get any easier, and I had to race Bryce Creek followed by Donnie Huffman—always a tough matchup. Then to top it all off I had to race Casey Smith in the finals, and it seemed like he was in every final this weekend, so it was a very difficult road to get this win.

“Would like to thank North Florida Motorplex for giving us a top notch facility to race at. It’s a long drive from Pennsylvania, but definitely worth it to race here.

“Also Bill and Chrissy Rowe for putting on top notch events, my dad for helping me make some repairs to the bike in the off-season, and last but not least—my wife for helping get to the race and helping out at it.”

While Smith didn’t win that 7.00 Pro Eliminator final, he did pretty well elsewhere after deciding to make the trip to Fountain from Macon, Georgia, at beyond the very last minute.

“I was in the shop working on some customers bikes and got a call that they didn’t finish qualifiers on Saturday,” said Smith. “So per the rules, I called Bill Rowe and asked if I could still get in the runs on Sunday morning. He said ‘Yes sir, registration is still open. We start at 11:00am.’ So I finished the shop work and packed up to head south. Drove all night and got to the track about 7:00am. All I can say is some people just love racing!

“Signed up for four classes and then went to work. Made one small change after two passes and dialed her in.”

His .041 light against Chris Phipps’ .146 set the stage for Phipps to go way too quick in a double breakout, 7.35 Super Eliminator final.

“In Super Eliminator I faced Chris Phipps in the finals. I cut a better light and we had an awesome race looking at each other all the way. Straight up whack-fest, double breakout. He just went a little more than I did past the index.”

Smith caught a break in Saturday’s Eliminator, leaving .022 after final round opponent Chris Ussery, who’s transmission then broke and allowed Smith to drive around.

“Was able to win the Eliminator class racing against some awesome competitors, including 2022 Eliminator champ Chris Ussery in the finals,” said Smith. “Great race.

“I do a lot alone at the track, but the guys in the background that make it possible are Chad Hart at XLXBHORSEPOWER and the guys at Harley-Davidson of Macon making sure I got all the parts I need.

“GEN2 Smith Racing starting off the year the right way. Long way to go ahead of us.”

Racin’ Ray Robinson raced his short wheelbase, bucking Buell to the Sunday Eliminator win, beating the great Donnie Huffman when Donnie had an uncharacteristically bad reaction time.

“I would like to thank AHDRA for putting on a good race weekend despite the weather and accidents,” said Robinson, who sadly is adding a swingarm and shock to his handful Buell. “And to my crew at Universal Fleet and Tire—couldn’t have won the ET class without all their help and motivation. And to my family, thanks for supporting me while I chase my dreams. Love y’all!”

Huffman my have blown the race against Robinson, but delivered for the win against AHDRA champion Cody Hayworth in Vreeland’s Harley-Davidson 6.35. Huffman put a killer .019 light up against Hayworth’s .158 and stayed close to the index with a 6.38

“It was freaking cold, I was ready to go back to Florida,” laughed Huffman.

Michael Hines Jr. took the tree .022 to .203 against his brother Jaden to set up the Junior Dragbikes win, running 9.96 to Jaden’s 10.56.

“Michael broke into the 9s for the first time ever,” said proud dad Michael Sr. “And all day Sunday, he was so happy!

“They loved seeing all the big bikes, and they got to meet Tii Thorpe this weekend. They loved that too. Can’t wait for The Rock in April!”

That’s right, AHDRA’s next stop is the brand new, but still legendary, Rockingham Dragway—the spiritual home of Nitro Harley drag racing. Bill and Chrissy Rowe can’t wait to welcome the AHDRA family back to The Rock on April 28-30.

5-Ball VL,XA,FL Knucklehead build, Part 3

We’ll see. Here’s a thought from our Mindfulness Master in Australia:

Encouraging people to adopt a growth mindset, practice mindfulness, and build a support system can be effective ways to help them build their resilience and ability to handle stress.

A growth mindset is the belief that one’s abilities and intelligence can be developed and improved through dedication and hard work. By encouraging people to adopt a growth mindset, they are more likely to view challenges and setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning, rather than as personal failures.

This can help them develop a more positive outlook on life and increase their resilience in the face of adversity.

Irish Rich came over and suggested that I run a Sportster headlight and it just happens I dug one out of my headlight box. I’m using my Smithy Lathed more every week and my new Vulcan TIG welder. The bracket for the headlight caused me to use multiple shop tools from cut-off wheels, grinders, lathe, TIG, you name it.

A neighbor came by with an old taillight and I pondered mounting it to the sissybar or the fender. I was able to mount it to the fender after brazing to fixed the cracked body and then heating and bending. Irish Rich recommended using a Radiantz LED insert for the taillight, brake light. They are supposedly indestructible. So far they are out of stock, but I’m working with them.

I used a portion of the original front fender strap for mounting the fender to the sissybar. I still can’t mount the fender to the frame or sissybar until the driveline is aligned, but we’re getting close.

I made a front, under-the-seat,  fender mounting tab and spent hours on it. Now it looks like I won’t be using it. Actually, that’s okay. The newer version will be improved. I now have all the pieces and tools to make my copper and brass oil tank, and I needed to move that bracket.

I also made a seat tab and swivel for the front of the seat. I’m trying to use as many mechanical pieces as possible for an old machinery vibe. I made the rear mounting and spring system using a set of Panhead valve springs for suspension. I moved the seat back almost 4 inches for my tall self. Again, I wasn’t happy with some elements of the spring and support tab. I tossed it and started over. Same system but different components.

John M. came over and we tinkered with the pipes after we installed a mock-up Transmission. The pipes are very quirky. I can’t decide if I like them or not. The other issues include the foot controls and rider pegs.

I milled my crossover line and made progress, then decided to move everything forward several inches. I had a plan to avoid attaching anything other than the regulator to the front motor-mount to keep the single-loop VL frame as clean as possible.

I came up with a goofy strategy for the rear brake using old crank tools. This uses the cross-over tube and I made the linkage and pedal mechanism. The pedal will be behind the riding peg. It will take some getting used to, but it may be more convenient.

I came up with an alternate plan for mounting the rider pegs so they come out close to the center of the engine, but it took moving the engine. First, I removed the tacked-together pipes. With the Redhead’s help, I was able to rock the engine over and drop a couple of 3/8 bolts, ¾-inch long through two holes in the frame plate under the engine. I made a ¼-inch thick peg mounting plate and tack welded the 5/8-inch solid square stock rod to the plate. It worked, but I may need to adjust it.

I also feel a rider must be able to stand on his pegs in an emergency situation. I’m looking for additional support for the rider peg mounting.

Relax and enjoy the build I say to myself, and in many respects, this is a fun one. I have a plan for the paint, which I’m excited about. and I’m trying to make everything with unique products, more industry and less custom stuff including the kickstand.

I bought a weld-on bracket. It takes a ‘74 to ‘90 Sportster kickstand and spring. It’s way more expensive than a custom job, but it’s also way more mechanical and classic.

Paughco is shipping a stock replacement tool box strap and some pieces that might help with the pegs. I’m going to use a Paughco sparkplug holder for my ignition switch and circuit breaker housing. I’m going to make the battery box from a Harley side cover and mount it to the tool box strap.

I’m going to add leather tooling to the seat, leather straps to hold the oil tank and a leather engraved top to the battery from Dime Bag or Adam Croft leather works.

When I’m hanging with Hamsters and other builders the subject of unfinished builds comes up constantly. We talk about all the chopper dreams that don’t come to fruition. Whether it’s mental, resources, relationship, financial or baby obstacles, anything can be overcome and dreams do come true.

Maybe it takes a little longer or we need to save up some coin or find a used part. Maybe you need to find a more receptive old lady. Whatever the issues there’s an entire industry of guys and gals out there who want to help you make your chopper dream come true, so relax and make it happen.

Goddammit, this puppy is going to be cool or I’ll die trying, right. Hang on for the next episode.

LIFE’S OPPORTUNITIES BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for March 23, 2023

Hey,

I know governments are a mess including this country. Why don’t they get it? We’re living in the best of times. This is especially true for kids. Look what you can make out of life, how much education is available, travel, accomplishments, you name it.

I was working on my third tech around building a Knucklehead chopper and something dawned on me. I just turned 75, and look at all the cool stuff I can do this year. I can build a modern S&S Knucklehead in a modified vintage frame with an old stock XA front end, including old and new parts. Then I can build a 1913 H-D racer, because vintage shit is being manufactured all over the world. I can write another book, go to Bonneville with the Salt Torpedo, build metal art, work on my home in Sturgis, drive a lowered ’58 Chevy, learn the history of South Dakota and write cool articles on Bikernet every day!

Think about kids today, all the stuff they can do on their phones daily. They don’t need to chop wood to cook breakfast or hunt for something to eat. Life is incredible, all you need to do is to get out of bed and get moving. It’s all at your fingertips.

Let’s hit the news.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum.

BATTLE LINES BEING DRAWN
In August 2022 California Governor Gavin Newsom announced, and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved, an executive order requiring sales of all new passenger vehicles be zero-emission by 2035. While the California directive doesn’t include motorcycles yet, motorcyclist advocates in the Golden State have warned that motorcycles will be an obvious next target.

Unsurprisingly, other states quickly followed suit and enacted similar policies. Massachusetts, Oregon, Washington, New York, New Jersey, and Maryland have all sought to put similar restrictions in place. In total 17 states have laws that bind their emissions regulations to those of California.

However, leaders in many states, including those that are obliged to follow California’s lead, are pushing back. In Colorado, the Energy Office said, “While the governor shares the goal of rapidly moving towards electric vehicles, he is skeptical about requiring 100% of cars sold to be electric by a certain date as technology is rapidly changing.”

Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin was even more forceful, “I am already at work to prevent this ridiculous edict from being forced on Virginians. California’s out of touch laws have no place in our Commonwealth.”

This month the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted down a bill that would have forced New Hampshire to match California’s emissions goals.

Congressional Republicans are also joining the fight against the California policies. Last week H.R. 1435 was introduced, titled the “Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act.” H.R. 1435 would amend the Clean Air Act to prevent the elimination of the sale of internal combustion engines, effectively overruling California’s move. Within just a week, 66 cosponsors from 26 different states joined in support.

The movement isn’t contained to the United States. Last month, the European Parliament formally approved a law to effectively ban the sale of new gas and diesel powered vehicles in the European Union starting in 2035. But Europe, too, is seeing pushback. Farmers in the Netherlands have taken to the streets in protest of emissions regulations. Member nations of the EU are also expressing a desire to make changes to the newly enacted policy. Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia are discussing what changes they’d like to see to the European Union’s 2035 plan.

This issue is not new to the MRF. Our 2023 legislative agenda includes this priority: “Work against any efforts by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) that endanger the future of motorcycling.”

We are ready for this fight and will work with partners across the country to defend the future of motorcycling and the lifestyle we cherish!

RICHARD PETTY Offers High Performance Speed Shop

(Randleman, NC) Richard Petty is called “The King” because he’s won more races than anyone in NASCAR history, and he came by those wins with hard work, a great crew, and plenty of speed. Today that same winning spirit can be found at Petty’s Garage in Randleman, which specializes in working on high performance vehicles.

“People are holding on to their cars longer these days. In fact, the average age of a car on the road is over twelve years old,” said Chris Hussey, manager of Petty’s Garage. “We can reinvent or increase the horsepower of just about any car, and we’ve done so for regular folks as well as celebrities.”

Those satisfied celebrities include Kid Rock, Tim Tebow, and Brian Johnson, front man with AC/DC.

“Basically, Petty’s garage is for anyone who is looking for more power or to restore their car to its high performance greatness,” said Hussey. “Plus, there’s always the chance you’ll run into the King himself while you’re here at the shop.”

“I’ve been building hot rods ever since I was a little kid and my bicycle wouldn’t go fast enough,” said Petty. “Our crew here at the garage has that same kind of drive to succeed for their customers.”

Petty’s Garage specializes in everything American muscle! Our master engine builders can upgrade stock engines to generate upwards of 1000 horsepower, develop and hand-fabricate performance parts for stock vehicles, and restore/modify old cars to the highest standard in the industry. FRED KODLIN DOES IT AGAIN
The custom BMW R 18 B ‘Heavy Duty,’ designed by Fred Kodlin and his son Len, was unveiled at Daytona Bike Week and features modifications to the frame and body and a custom paint job by tattoo artist Marcel Sinnwell.

TRIKE ALERT
Howdy, Bandit! I thought you might want to put this warning out to the trike community!

Howdy! Grab a chair an’ a beer, ‘cause I’ve got a warning for ya!

A lot of ya will remember be from Thunder Press, and remember my wife, Reggie’s pink trike. She’s put almost 100K miles on it, and rode it all over the western states. A while back, she noticed a clunk, an’ when I checked it out, I found that the left side axle housing had broken the welds, and the angle destroyed the bearing surfaces of the aluminum center housing.

I found out that Champion Trikes, the makers of the kit I used, (before Harley made trikes) had been sold and the design changed, so no parts are available for the older kits. With a lot of miles on the bike, we decided it wasn’t worth buying another 10K kit, so she bought a new trike and I started to put her Heritage back on 2 wheels. That’s when I discovered that the main supports were also broken, and it’s lucky she wasn’t slidin’ down the highway on her ass at 80 miles an hour!

Ride safe, y’all, and we’ll see ya on the road!

BILTWELL ACTION
We’re pretty non-denominational about motorcycles around here. Big, small, long, short, dirty, shiny – we love ’em all! When we were figuring out classes for the bike show at the Parts & Labor Expo in Del Mar, we made it pretty open and even included ADV bike builders.

So, from vintage Harley choppers to crusty Triumph race bikes or wheelie-poppin’ Dynas and well worn old BMW’s, there was something interesting to look at no matter your tastes. We got a profile shot of just about all of ’em and put the collection up on the WTF Blog. Enjoy!

THE TWISTED ROAD ADVICE COLUMN–How to Choose a Motorcycle Sidecar.

Congratulations on choosing a motorcycle with sidecar for your next adventure! You will be joining a unique group of riders with interesting historic and cultural backgrounds.

But how do you choose a motorcycle sidecar that works for you? The choices on a sidecar setup are as varied as motorcycle choices. It all comes down to the major ‘WH’ questions: who, what, where, why, and how? Start with these key areas and you will be able to put together the best sidecar option for your planned getaway and riding style.

Who will ride with you?

When you jump on your motorcycle with sidecar, who will be riding with you? Are you taking your favorite pet? Will a person be riding in your sidecar? Will your motorcycle sidecar be for extra gear?

Knowing who is going with you will determine the size of the sidecar you need to get. If you will only be transporting gear, then you don’t need a padded, comfortable sidecar. If you will have someone riding with you, you may want one with a windshield. Depending on the temperature of the riding areas, you may even want one with a cover over the sidecar.

What terms will you need to know?

When you are ready to zone in on the motorcycle sidecar you want, you will need to know a few industry words to get you started. This will help you describe what you are looking for when you pick out your sidecar.

Rig – The combination of the motorcycle and the sidecar; also known as “outfit” or “hack” depending on the region.

Sidecar – The one-wheeled device attached to the side of a motorcycle. The term is sometimes expanded to include the entire rig.

Mule – The motorcycle attached to the sidecar.

Monkey – The passenger in the sidecar.

Toe-In – The distance your sidecar is moved toward or away from your motorcycle to reduce pull.

Mounting System – The parts used to connect your sidecar to your motorcycle. (By the way, a “Universal Mounting Kit” is never universal; experienced work always needs to be done to make the kits work).

Don’t get too concerned about the terms. You don’t have to learn anything if you don’t want to – you can just ride and enjoy. But some believe part of the ride is the fun in learning, so do your research if you’re curious.

Where will you ride?

Are you planning on being the next sidecar racer? Will you be tootling down backroads across the United States? Or will you be an interstate rider, just getting to your next destination?

Sidecars come with all kinds of riding options, just like motorcycles. There are dirt bikes for off-roading, ultra-glides for highways, and touring bikes for long-distance riding. If you’re planning a trip and looking to rent a sidecar, you are probably already set to go because you will be renting a sidecar that is already set up for the riding you will do in that destination. The toe-in on your rig is adjusted to the type of riding you do. In addition, tire selection is important to the roads just like a motorcycle. So, decide where you will be riding and what type of riding you’ll be doing first.

Why do you want a motorcycle sidecar?

If this is the first time you will ride with a sidecar, then you want to consider why you are choosing to have one. Is it because you have a disability and have back problems or leg complications? Do you have problem balancing or no upper body strength? Be sure to make these reasons a priority when choosing the sidecar that works for you. Some sidecars come with dampeners making for a smoother ride. Some have reverse brakes or even sidecar brakes which will make it easier to get in and out of spots without using your legs to back up.

How will you bring it all together?

Now that you have done a little research and you know why you are looking at sidecars, make a list of the features you need and rank them in priority. Some will be required while others will just be nice-to-have. Reviewing these features when you rent or buy will help you get the sidecar that matches your personality, needs, and riding style.

TIP: If you have not ridden a motorcycle with sidecar before, they are easy to pick up. But, always take the sidecar to a parking lot and practice a few times before heading out onto the open road. And be sure to spend a little while talking with the sidecar owner about the unique features and modifications available on your new motorcycle sidecar ride before you head out.

This weekend I checked out the new Deadwood Cigar Club. It was once in a dark basement under a 125-year-old hotel. The blues were captured in the background surrounded by damp stone walls. It was riddled with a dark smokey atmosphere. They need to work on the lighting in the new joint.

Here’s my grandson riding out across the hot desert heading toward the rally in the Black hills. We’re both wearing 5-Ball leather vests. They fit just right, have two gun pockets and more. Check them out.

Driving home very drunk

It seems a gentleman had too much alcohol at a party, was heading home, and was pulled over by a state trooper. Upon being tested, the fellow couldn’t walk a straight line any more than he could drive one, so the trooper wrote out a ticket and had just given it to the driver before an accident in the opposite lane took his attention to more important matters.

The inebriated driver, figuring that the trooper wasn’t coming back to him, drove home and went to bed. he was awakened in the morning by a knock at the door, created by two more state troopers.

“Are you Mr. Johnson?” the asked? He admitted that he was.

“Were you pulled over at Main Street last night for driving under the influence?” Again, the man admited that it was he.

“And what did you do then,” the troopers asked.” The man replied that he drove his car home and went to bed.

“Where is your car now?” the troopers enquired. The man answered that it was in the garage.

“May we see the car?” asked the troopers. The man answered, “Sure,” and opened the garage.

Inside the garage was the state troopers’ car.

MAJOR INTERNATIONAL EVENT–Farmers’ protest party win shock Dutch vote victory

The dutch won a political battle against what USED to be called “Agrarian Reform.” now it’s called “saving the planet.” instead of Marxism.

–J.J. Solari

A farmers’ party has stunned Dutch politics, and is set to be the biggest party in the upper house of parliament after provincial elections.

The Farmer-citizen movement (BBB) was only set up in 2019 in the wake of widespread farmers’ protests.

But with most votes counted they are due to win 15 of the Senate’s seats with almost 20% of the vote.

“This isn’t normal, but actually it is! It’s all normal citizens who voted,” said leader Caroline van der Plas.

The BBB aims to fight government plans to slash nitrogen emissions harmful to biodiversity by dramatically reducing livestock numbers and buying out thousands of farms.

But its appeal has spread rapidly beyond its rural heartland, on a populist platform that represents traditional, conservative Dutch social and moral values.

Shocked by the scale of their success, Ms van der Plas told supporters that voters normally stayed at home if they lost faith in politics: “But today people have shown they can’t stay at home any longer. We won’t be ignored any more.”

CORRECTION FROM THE MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION

Editor’s Note: The MRF wishes to clarify the distinction between an automated driving system (ADS) and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) refers to “self-driving” technologies that do not require a driver’s constant attention (and may not require a driver at all) as ADS. The agency refers to technologies that support drivers but require a human driver to remain fully engaged in the driving task as ADAS.

NHTSA Responds to Questions from Congress

Just before the end of 2022, Rep. Tim Walberg of Michigan and 26 of his colleagues in Congress sent a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding recent crashes that involve motorcycles and cars believed to be in self-driving mode.

The response from government regulators has some key takeaways:

“NHTSA is actively working to educate consumers and the media that ADAS technologies are not self-driving technologies, and that drivers must always remain engaged in the driving task.”

“Crashes involving motorcycles account for less than 2 percent of all reported crashes involving vehicles with either ADS or Level 2 ADAS technologies.”

“NHTSA is conducting research on how vehicles equipped with crash avoidance technologies react to motorcycles, bicyclists and other vulnerable road users in various scenarios.”

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation is committed to aggressively working with lawmakers to address obvious safety gaps in the deployment of this new technology. While we appreciate that NHTSA is conducting research on this topic, on this topic, motorcyclists are not “vulnerable road users”, motorcyclists are simply road users.

Additionally, it’s unacceptable that consumers falsely believe ADAS technology, deployed on our roads, allows them to sit back and relax while in the driver’s seat. The safety of the nearly 10 million bikers on our nation’s roadways requires that all roadway users act in a responsible manner.

Go to the Motorcycle Riders Foundation website for more info.

As always Ride Safe and Ride Free.

A LETTER TO THE BOSS OF HEARTLAND INSTITUTE THINK TANK

Hey Sterling,

I’m writing to ask permission to republish your Net Zero piece on my 27-year-old website, Bikernet.com. I’ve been a motorcycle freedom fighter for over 50 years and was the editor of Easyriders magazine for 23 years.

In Europe they started a net zero accidents campaign and one country immediately decided to ban motorcycles. We fought it. Net Zero is a control freak excuse or policy for ultimate control and no freedom.

Just recently, I was on a podcast with some leaders in the motorcycle industry. Finally, some guys are waking up. We may be able to put together a coalition of a large number of motorcycle and automotive aftermarket groups to force the government to embrace scientific transparency or hopefully force the end of Climate Doom and bring it to the public’s attention. Like the McCarthy era, we need to bust the doom.

I appreciate all you do!

“While it might look simple from one perspective, this 1968 Triumph T-120 Bonneville has a uniqueness far beyond its straightforward appearance. Originally a barn find, the bike began its transformation with the goal of becoming a salt flat racer until the pandemic altered those plans and shifted the direction to what you see here.

The builder, Jessika Janene, also went through quite a change during this time period, beginning a transgender journey that would completely reshape her life in many ways. This experience had its share of twists and turns, but her love for custom bikes remained. BAD NEWS FROM THE MRF–Ride in Peace Wayne

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation mourns the passing of motorcyclist rights activist Wayne Lettau.

Wayne was heavily involved in the MRF’S federal legislative agenda, and his efforts with ABATE of South Dakota are legendary. His passion and skills delivered countless legislative victories including an impressive undefeated streak in the Statehouse.

We remember Wayne as a true “gentle giant”. He was friendly, yet fierce. He was a tremendous asset to the motorcycling world, but even more, he was truly a wonderful human being and a dear friend to us all.

Wayne and his wife Susan were inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame as Freedom Fighters in 2020.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Susan, the Lettau family and Wayne’s infinite number of friends.

HISTORY FROM THE NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM–1971 Norton Commando Roadster

Designed around the best pieces developed for the Manx Norton production racer made through 1962, and the Norton Atlas, with new concepts like Isolastic driveline mounting, the Norton Commando excelled in every way.

Many special versions of the Commando were made between 1968 and the hiatus in production for all Nortons in the early 1990’s. At the beginning, 1968, the Norton Commando “Fastback” hit the streets with little fanfare; the dealer network in America was thin, but you may remember the spicy magazine ads. Though something like a “cafe racer,” the look was not well accepted in the important American market. Norton quickly retooled with a trendy “scrambler” high pipe version, and then eventually the Roadster which they gave the very conventional look of our subject bike.

Initially at 100ccs stronger than offerings from Triumph and BSA, until the Trident and Rocket III arrived, the Commandos fared well even against the Harley Sportster, Kawasaki H1 and Honda CB750. In 1972 the “Combat” version hit the scene offering higher output, but some mechanical problems. An electric starter was added to the 850 for 1975. According to contemporary magazine tests, the stock Commando excelled in drag races. On a twisty road or a race track, the Norton left about everything behind; the Manx derived frame and 19 inch wheels shod with Dunlop’s famed K81’s made it handle. Disk brakes came in 1972. Nicknamed “Yellow Peril,” the Commando Production Racer was the highest performance model.

It was either not a well-known science or too expensive to achieve, so engine balance was a problem on big twins of the era. A Norton engineer Bernard Hooper designed the Isolastic system which mounted engine, transmission and swingarm in a separate subframe on rubber mounts. The drive line still shook just as a Harley’s does today, but similarly the rider is isolated from it. Today many manufacturers have engineered in balance shafts, smoothing engine operation.

It’s also interesting to note just how universal and tough the Commando motor is. The Norton fared well on road race courses around the world, including the Isle of Man. And although never meant to run nitromethane blends or to be drag raced in anger, John Gregory and Tom “T.C.” Christenson built HOGSLAYER*, a world championship winning twin-Commando engined top fuel drag bike now displayed in the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, England.

A British contemporary of Hendee, Hedstrom, Harley and the Davidsons, James Landsdown Norton began assembling motorcycles with clip-on engines in 1902. The Norton Big Four hit the streets in 1908 and Norton himself rode in the 1908, 1909 and 1910 Isle of Man TT races, then run on the “short course.” Rem Fowler won the very first TT riding a Peugeot-powered Norton. James “Pa” Norton died in 1925 at the age of 56 and it is amazing the company thrived into the 1960’s before closing its doors in the 1990’s, largely due to weak management and strong Asian competition. Much like Indian has been revived a couple of times, new ownership of the Norton brand commenced limited production in 2012. But financial problems seem to plague these revived old brands and “new” Norton production is an off and on proposition. In late 2022 a V-4 Norton prototype was shown and announced as in development.

This 1971 Norton Commando Roadster is lightly customized with trimmer front fender, a single Mikuni carburetor and flanged alloy rims and is part of the Jill and John Parham Collection. Before the National Motorcycle Museum closes permanently September 4, we hope you’ll stop by and check it out along with a Norton 500 single racer from the pre-World War II era.

FROM THE DOWN-UNDER DOCTOR–

You either get better or bitter.

It’s simple.

You either take what has been dealt to you and allow it to make you a better person, or you allow it to tear you down.

The choice does not belong to fate, it belongs to you.

THE TEXAS WEATHER REPORT-

So up at MC Creations today and Greg tells me go look out back at what he bought, where he had purchased this roller and a Harman of Hallcraft(?) mag wheel, don’t know front or rear. I know Harman built bad freaking engines and front ends! Don’t know about wheels? I still have the centerfold of the engine from 1981 issue somewhere?

He recouped his purchase price back on the wheel sale alone! Leaving pure profit on the roller, don’t bother to call as it sold first call! We do wonder about the tank? The tank mounts are 4-5 inches longer than a Sportster tank. Greg thinks maybe it had a coffin tank?

So last Saturday morning I’m riding the Shovelhead and my girls tell me go home and check the brakes. I know the rear master cylinder leaks as I plan on seeing if Greg has a kit in stock when he opens. Checked and the level was Way Low! Leaking faster than before, fill it, go to MC, have to order kit and ride some more.

Rebuilt Friday, fixed my return spring hole on the pedal today, get ready to lower it down and well, “Hello there!” I see you trying to hide behind the caliper bracket. Two or three rotor bolts installed are loose! Only thing I can figure, is I planned on replacing the tire before I went too far.

Only 350 miles or so.

Thank you Girls!

KEEP THE BANDIT’S CANTINA BAD JOKE LIBRARY WIDE OPEN

A cruise ship passes by a remote island, and all the passengers see a bearded man running around and waving his arms wildly.

“Captain,” one passenger asks, “who is that man over there?”

“I have no idea,” the captain says, “but he goes nuts every year when we pass him.”

A man just assaulted me with a block of cheese a pint of milk. How dairy!

ARTIST OF THE WEEK

(Asheboro, NC) In a twist of technique, Asheboro artist Laura Ashley, well known for creating major works of art in under five minutes, spent last weekend painting images of speed at the Daytona 500.

Commissioned by Ally through Gallery 500, Laura attended the race weekend where, over a period of three days, she rendered a composite painting featuring images of race cars and the speed experience.

The 90 x 78” painting will hang in the Ally Suite Tower at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL.

Ally is a financial services company with the nation’s largest all-digital bank and an industry-leading auto financing business. They’re a household name among racing fans, especially those who cheer on Alex Bowman and the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Ally also recently announced a new relationship with NASCAR, having Ally Bank become the official Consumer Bank of NASCAR and NASCAR-owned tracks.

The Oak Ridge Boys Celebrate The 40th Anniversary Of Their #1 Hit “American Made”

The Oak Ridge Boys Also Celebrating The 20th Anniversary Of Their ‘Colors’ Album

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – GRAMMY Award-winning and Country Music Hall of Fame members, The Oak Ridge Boys are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their hit song “American Made.” Written by Bob DiPiero and Pat McManus, “American Made” was first released as a single in February 1983. It became a national ad jingle for Budweiser and later for Cambria USA. It also became their 7th #1 hit! The Oaks re-recorded this classic hit in 2007 for a special Support Our Troops CD to benefit the USO. The CD was sold exclusively at participating 7-Eleven stores in the United States.

“It’s hard to believe that “American Made” has been going strong for 40 years,” shares Joe Bonsall. “Every night the audience still sings every word with us. It’s a fun song to sing!”

The Oak Ridge Boys are also celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the release of their album, ‘Colors.’ In 2004, ‘Colors,’ the title track was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Country Performance by a Group or Duo with Vocals. Additionally, the Gospel Music Association nominated the album for Country Album of the Year. Produced by Duane Allen and Michael Sykes, ‘Colors’ was released by Gaither Music.

“In the early 2000s, I wrote a song and a book called, ‘G.I. Joe & Lillie,’ about my parents, who were both WWII Army veterans,” continues Bonsall. “The Oak Ridge Boys included the song on our 2003 Gaither Music album project, Colors, helping propel my little book to bestseller status! Norah Lee Allen, Duane’s wife, also wrote a song for the Colors album. ‘This Is America’ is a beautiful patriotic anthem and features Richard on lead.” The Oak Ridge Boys are currently touring the country on their 2023 Front Porch Singin’ Tour and are continuing to add dates.

BAGGER RACING NEWS–Bagger Racing League Taps Lon Nordbye to Lead Marketing & Commercial Development

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, March 2023 (GLOBAL NEWSWIRE) — Bagger Racing League, North America’s premier racing league for custom & performance V-Twins is throttling up for the 2023 racing season with a three-race circuit at major tracks and markets including Pittsburg, PA, South Beloit, IL and Rosamond, CA beginning the weekend of May 6th. One of motorcycling’s most popular and fastest-growing genres of racing took a big step forward today by naming longtime entertainment and festival executive Lon Nordbye as its VP of Commercial Development.

WHY WE RIDE

What do California, Nevada, Colorado, New Jersey, Illinois, Texas, North Carolina, South Dakota, Arizona, Minnesota, Oregon, Mexico & India have in common?

These are the places where previous years’ participants and volunteers have come from to join us on this spectacular ride!

Whether you are traveling a few miles or a few thousand, whether you are crossing states or oceans, we want to thank you for joining us in SoCal on what promises to be the most inspirational ride of 2023.

We ride to continue to give these kids and their families HOPE!

The open road is calling for you to join us!

To get all the the details and make your reservation today.

Only 30 spots are available and this ride will fill up quickly.

You have been a big part of our family and WHY this ride has grown — be part of our ride once again!

BUT WAIT— Some European countries want to restrict flights to curb emissions and Colorado wants to ban new gas stations. It’s nuts, but I get it. They’ll keep coming until all is destroyed.

I think about my book Sam “Chopper” Orwell. I wrote it in 1998 and it speaks to this issue. But that’s not enough, we need to demand the truth. Anyway, moving right along. This week was quirky and I can be an impatient bastard.

Made progress with the Knucklehead project and I swear a report is coming. I’m looking at some auction items that might work on my ’13 racer.

https://www.bikernet.com/pages/NCOM_Biker_Newsbytes_for_March_2023.aspx

Make sure you read the Bill Bish Legislative report on the home page.

I’m hoping to receive a report on the ’58 Belair Sport Coup I received recently.

I’m trying to reprint Outlaw Justice, the second book I published and sold out years ago. As it turns out the version on the website is an early one, before editing. This has been a challenge, but we’re getting there.

In the meantime, join the MRF or your local motorcycle rights association and stay informed. I believe this could be a major year for the truth, but I said that last year. If you stay up with the news. Good stuff is surfacing already this year.

We want to ride free forever, goddammit!

Eye Catchers in the show

I was going to write a whole lot about the event and then as I was going through the photos, I decided to let them tell their own story. If you want to know more, I suggest you attend the next event, which will be during Biketoberfest. Yes, we will remind you on Bikernet. The lot is so full with motorcycles and people it is sometimes hard to get from one side of it to the other.

Now, while the Bike Show is going on out front there’s good food, beverages and music going on out back and on the sides of the building.

The other part of what people come to see is Roadside Marty and the Awards Ceremony. Roadside is an Old Friend, and I really enjoy watching him being humorous to the audience when he comments on the motorcycles and their owners between trying to get women to change into the t-shirts he and the group are giving out. I have seen it happen in the past but only got a quick flash this year.

While it’s all happening and people are having a great time, there’s a reason for this event. It’s all about raising money to Help Our Veterans. All Profits go to the Veterans Support Fund!
