Interesting day in Paradise. I watched another movie by Ben Affleck and of course his character made a statement about how humans fucked with the planet. I know where this narrative comes from. It comes from extremist who want nothing less than pushing back the time clock to when we lived by a campfire, and then they would bitch about the fire.

This bothers me because of our kids and kids to come—they are being lied to. Humans have made mistakes, but in general they have helped people live longer and healthier lives, more comfortable with more energy to do the things they want and be able to work and make a living. So generally, man has made amazing strides. And some scientists believe that by using fossil fuels we have added much needed CO2 into the atmosphere when we needed it the most.

Most folks don’t realize that if we didn’t use oil, it would bubble out into the ocean and into streams and anywhere it could get out. Because we just didn’t let it set there, we now have clothes, gas for cooking, medicine, medical equipment, plastics for products, you name it. We are living in the absolute best of times. Let’s ride free forever.

BLM NEWS–U.S. Bureau of Land Management Seeks Resource Advisory Council Members
Sixteen of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s Resource Advisory Councils in the West have members whose terms are scheduled to expire soon. These RACs provide advice and recommendations to the BLM on land use planning and management of the National System of Public Lands within their geographic areas.

The AMA encourages qualified off-highway enthusiasts to apply for these vacancies to help ensure that the motorcyclists’ perspective is considered before recommendations are made to the BLM.

Prospective members may nominate themselves or others. Nominees must be residents of the state in which the RAC has jurisdiction. The BLM will evaluate nominees based on their education, training, experience and knowledge of the geographic area of the RAC. Nominees should demonstrate a commitment to collaborative resource decision-making.

As required, RAC membership must be balanced and representative of the various interests concerned with the management of the public lands. The rules governing RACs are found at 43 CFR subpart 1784. RACs include the following three membership categories:

Category A
Organized labor or non-timber forest product harvester groups
Developed outdoor recreation, off-highway-vehicle users or commercial recreation activities
Energy and mineral development interests or commercial or recreational fishing interests
Commercial timber industry
Hold federal grazing or other land use permits, or represent nonindustrial private forest land owners, within the area for which the committee is organized

Category B
Nationally recognized environmental organizations
Regionally or locally recognized environmental organizations
Dispersed recreational activities
Archaeological and historical interests
Nationally or regionally recognized wild horse and burro interest groups, wildlife or hunting organizations or watershed associations

Category C
Hold state elected office or their designee
Hold county or local elected office
American Indian tribes within or adjacent to committee area
School officials or teachers
Represent the affected public at large

The following must accompany all nominations:

-A completed RAC application, which can either be obtained through your local BLM office or online at: blm.gov/get-involved/resource-advisory-council.
-Letters of reference from represented interests or organizations
-Any other information that addresses the nominee’s qualifications

Simultaneous with this notice, BLM state offices will issue press releases providing additional information for submitting nominations. Before including any address, phone number, email address or other personal identifying information in the application, nominees should be aware this information may be made publicly available at any time. While the nominee can ask to withhold the personal identifying information from public review, the BLM cannot guarantee that it will be able to do so.

THE INDUCED DEMAND THEORY–Editor’s Note: In Part 1, Chris detailed two major causes of induced demand and explained why the overall supply vs. demand effects are manageable. Here he takes on some of the arguments which cite induced demand as a rationale against increasing highway capacity.

Having established the relationship between new capacity, demand, and land use, there is yet more ground on which to challenge induced demand as a critique of adding new capacity.

One benefit of increasing capacity is that more people are able to get where they want to go, when they want to go there.

As documented in Part 1, not all new capacity is consumed after it is built. However, if we assume for the sake of argument that 100 percent of the new capacity is eventually used, and that in the long term, travel speeds return to pre-expansion baselines, more people are traveling at that slow speed.

Each freeway lane can typically carry up to around 1,200 vehicles per hour before it starts to exhibit congestion, and flow rates in heavy congestion tend to sit at over 2,000 vehicles per lane per hour. This means that even if all of the new capacity is absorbed by new trips, over 2,000 more people are served by the expanded road. This is a net social benefit which is independent of travel-time improvement.

The addition of freeway lane-miles tends to decrease traffic on parallel roads and increase traffic on perpendicular ones.

This relationship has been known since the Detroit and Chicago Area Transportation Studies (DATS and CATS) of the 1950s. It should also be obvious to anyone who lives in a region served by freeways. In those regions, the parallel surface streets tend to see a decrease in traffic volume, but the perpendicular streets which connect to freeway interchanges see an increase.

Therefore, a key benefit of adding lane capacity to one route is a proportionate decrease in traffic on a parallel route. This is the fundamental purpose of bypass roads: They carry through traffic on purpose-built roads, leaving parallel local streets to serve local traffic. In rural areas, these bypass roads have caused significant damage to local businesses and communities – one need only look at the decaying remnants of Route 66 as an example. But in urban and suburban areas, these freeway bypasses of local town centers provide significant benefits, as those town centers would be gridlocked without them.

Hayward, California is an excellent example of a city center plagued by the results of an unintentional gap in the freeway system, with its Foothill and Mission Boulevards becoming honorary freeways at rush hour, pushing locals out. There are many examples of the same outcome in other regions, especially in areas where expense, local opposition, or other factors created gaps in the originally planned freeway system.

The planning horizon for transportation projects are not infinite.

It is true that new freeway capacity cannot solve problems for which it was not designed. Most of our urban-area freeways were designed in the 1950s with a 30-year planning horizon, so we are now more than 40 years past the intended lifespans of the original freeway system. In that time, we have added 100 million Americans.

Additionally, in the 1950s, it was assumed that most families would only have a single worker. The mass introduction of women into the workplace alone practically doubled the 1950s-era predicted traffic volumes. The extra congestion generated by those new trips hardly seems like a bad tradeoff, nor is it an indictment of the concept of automobility. Quite the contrary.

As an aside, there is often an argument made that implementing high-speed rail along congested corridors will alleviate congestion on freeways. With few exceptions, this is simply false. By connecting a region more closely, trips will be induced between the cities via the exact mechanisms described in Part 1 of this e-newsletter. (Again, I would suggest this is a good thing – more people get to experience more places!) While a proportion of these trips will be served by high-speed rail, even more of the increase in demand will be picked up by other modes, including the personal car. High-speed rail has many of its own advantages, but it is not a direct substitute for freeway lane-miles.

Another study by Bignazzi and Figliozzi compares the environmental effects of capacity-based (adding lanes) and demand-based (reducing demand) strategies for improving congestion, and that ends up being a lecture unto itself about how certain strategies in certain places under certain conditions produce different results. But that is a topic for another day.

Induced demand is a real phenomenon which should be considered when adding capacity to any transportation network. I conclude with a paragraph from Cervero’s “Roads and Decision Making,” one of the articles cited in Part 1:

“Over the last several decades and in many corners of America, claims of induced demand have stopped highway projects in their tracks. This is wrong-headed. Highway investment decisions should be based on a full accounting of costs and benefits over the service life of a facility. Induced-demand studies have told us only that some benefits of new or expanded highways get eroded over time. This is important to know, for it gives us a handle on the numerator of the benefit/cost ratio. However, induced-demand studies say nothing about other benefits conferred by highways—e.g., increased economic productivity or satisfaction of one’s preference for suburban living.”

The factory doesn’t support the motorcycle aftermarket

The factory denies real science that refutes Climate Alarmism, which will ultimately destroy H-D and all internal combustion vehicles wrongly.

Since our products are manufactured China and come into the Long Beach Port in California, there has been a major backup at the Long Beach Port in California were all the cargo freight ships come from Asia and unloaded at the Long Beach Port.

If you have seen the news about LB Port, you will know there is now a backup of almost 100 tanker ships waiting in the harbor to dock and unload their cargo. The ship that has our cargo has been in the harbor for over 2 weeks waiting to unload….so we do not have a delivery date at this moment.

BIKERNET BATTERY TENDER INVESTIGATION—How to use battery tenders? We are on the hunt. A friend kept his bike on a tender all the time. But when he rode to his girl’s house and spent the night, the bike was dead in the morning.

So, what’s the proper way to use a tender. Many folks recommend keeping their bikes on tenders all the time. I don’t like leaving a bike on a tender overnight or for long periods. If something goes wrong with the battery, the tender or garage circuits, your garage could burn down and perhaps your house.

Jason Mook, the owner of Deadwood Custom Cycles recommends putting your bike on a charger or tender once a week, charge it and then unplug it. You may need to charge more often depending on how new your bikes is and the constantly operating electronics, like the clock or security system.

We are also looking into how to check your battery. Our ’69 Panhead just had an issue with a recently replaced battery. At fully charged, it worked to electric start the bike, but with the slightest draw, it quit. Jason replaced the battery, but the damn things are expensive to be replaced once a year.

GOOGLE BULLIED BY ENVIRONMENTALIST GROUPS–Google to block ads from appearing next to content denying climate change
YouTube said it would remove false claims that vaccines cause autism, cancer or infertility

Alphabet Inc.’s Google will no longer allow digital ads bought on its platform to appear next to online content that denies climate change, a ban that will also apply to YouTube, the company’s giant online-video service.

The ban applies to “content that contradicts the well-established scientific consensus around the existence and causes of climate change,” Google, the world’s largest digital-ad company by revenue, said in a blog post Thursday. It also applies to any content denying that human activity or greenhouse gas emissions contribute to climate change.

Google’s move aims to cut off a major source of income for providers of climate-change misinformation. Google’s $147 billion in ad revenue comes from selling ad space in its own products, such as YouTube, as well as from brokering ad sales on thousands of sites across the web.

A spokesman for Google said the company would use a “combination of automated tools and human review” to enforce its policy.

Google is the leading provider of tools used in the many steps of purchasing and selling online ads—whether they are meant to run on Google’s own platforms or sites around the web. Google is expected to take 29% of global digital-ad spending in 2021, according to research firm eMarketer.

For several years, Google has prohibited advertising on certain content that is deemed misleading to the public or unattractive to advertisers, including civic disinformation, disinformation about the coronavirus pandemic and some content featuring minors.

Critics have said Google’s enforcement has been lax and ineffective at restraining the spread of disinformation.

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE RACING SECURES FIFTH CONSECUTIVE
AMERICAN FLAT TRACK MANUFACTURER’S CHAMPIONSHIP
–Indian Motorcycle Wrecking Crew Rider Jared Mees Wins Seventh Career Grand National Championship;

Indian Motorcycle Racing, presented by Progressive Motorcycle Insurance, earned its fifth consecutive American Flat Track (AFT) Manufacturer’s Championship, while its Wrecking Crew factory rider, Jared Mees, secured his seventh career Grand National Championship following the conclusion of the 2021 AFT season. In addition, Indian Motorcycle privateer Davis Fisher finished the 2021 season by reaching the top of the Charlotte Half-Mile podium – earning his first career AFT SuperTwins victory.

Entering the 2021 AFT SuperTwins finale, Mees lead fellow Indian Motorcycle Wrecking Crew rider, and two-time defending champion, Briar Bauman by a mere four points. Following a complete red flag restart in the Main, it was Bauman who established himself with the early lead, while Mees ran comfortably in second. Though after hitting a wet section on the track, Bauman’s bike clipped a hay bale and sent him over his bars.

With nowhere to go, Indian Motorcycle privateer Sammy Halbert crashed into Bauman’s bike and went flying into the air. Halbert was taken to a nearby hospital via ambulance, while Bauman joined the restart on his back-up bike, but eventually decided he was physically unable to compete and pulled out of the race – ultimately crowning Mees as the 2021 SuperTwins champion.

“First and foremost, we wish Sammy and Briar a speedy recovery. It’s an unfortunate way to end the season, but we know these guys are warriors and will be back stronger than ever,” said Gary Gray, Vice President Racing, Service & Technology. “We also want send a huge congratulations to Davis Fisher and his team, as they put in incredible work and truly deserve this victory. We also cannot say enough about Jared Mees – a true competitor in every sense of the word. Congrats on number seven, Jared.”

The 2021 championship could perhaps be Mees’ finest performance, as he battled through adversity following mid-season knee surgery. Costing him critical points in the season standings, Mees continued to train hard and ended the season by winning five of the last seven races. With 60 career wins, seven championships, and multiple records, Mees is now just two championships from reach his career goal to meet Scottie Parker’s record of nine championships.

AMA ALERT–Help Exempt Motorcycles from NYC Congestion Tolling!
Riders Against Congestion and the American Motorcyclist Association need your help! We believe motorcyclists should be exempt from any proposed congestion tolling in New York City.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has released its Central Business District Tolling Program, and it’s time for us to act. There will be a series of 10 regional public hearings and the MTA must hear from motorcyclists ASAP!

The Traffic Mobility Review Board, controlled by the MTA, will soon set toll rates and decide who, if any, will be exempt from congestion-based tolling. This is a crucial moment for us to advocate for a 100% exemption from congestion pricing for our fuel efficient, congestion reducing vehicles. Our goal will be to have as many motorcyclists as we can muster speaking at every single hearing.

Sign-up to participate in public meetings 

These hearings will be virtual, via Zoom, which will mean easy access for all. If you’re unable to speak at a hearing, you can submit written comments on the MTA website.

You’ll receive a confirmation via email once you register to speak at a hearing. While each hearing is each geared towards affected regions, you can participate in any hearing that fits your schedule. Our vehicles are lightweight, which reduces wear on roads and infrastructure.
Two-wheeled vehicles take up a small fraction of the space of an auto when parked.
Virtually every municipality around the world where Congestion Pricing has been imposed has exempted motorcycles from congestion pricing charges.

Now is the time for all motorcyclists to act! No one else can do this for us. NYC will be the first in the US to implement Congestion Pricing. City planners around the country are watching closely as they prepare their own congestion mitigation strategies. Let’s make sure we get this right the first time.

Riders Against Congestion and the AMA will be happy to provide more detailed information, links to supportive studies and any other supporting information to help you make your point. And please remember to let us know if you’ve signed up to speak at a hearing.

HANG ON–Nevada lithium mine, key to ‘Green’ energy, opposed by Greens

The mine would be “the most advanced lithium project in the U.S., and will become a major domestic supplier of refined lithium products, with enough supply of lithium materials for 400,000 electric vehicles a year for another quarter of a century,” ioneer executive chairman James Calaway said. …

But standing in its way is the Tiehm’s buckwheat, a flowering plant whose entire habitat is a 10-acre stretch of land located right where the new lithium mine would be operating. Responding to a 2019 petition submitted by the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) on June 3 proposed protecting the Tiehm’s buckwheat under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The FWS will undertake a 12-month review to determine whether the buckwheat will be listed as threatened or endangered.

DIRECT FROM THE DOOMSDAY COALITION–California will soon ban the sale of new gas-powered leaf blowers and lawn mowers, a move aimed at curbing emissions from a category of small engines on pace to produce more pollution each year than passenger vehicles.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a new law on Saturday that orders state regulators to ban the sale of new gas-powered equipment using small off-road engines, a broad category that includes generators, lawn equipment and pressure washers.

The California Air Resources Board has already started working on a rule to do this, a lengthy process scheduled to conclude early next year. But the law Newsom signed on Saturday removes any doubt, ordering the agency to apply the new rule by Jan. 1, 2024, or as soon as regulators determine is “feasible,” whichever date is later.

“Gov. Newsom signing (this law) really sets a strong course to not only his commitment to transitioning to zero emissions but also to cleaner air and healthier lungs,” said Will Barrett, director of clean air advocacy for the American Lung Association in California.

The law, authored by Democratic Assemblyman Marc Berman, is part of an aggressive strategy to reduce pollution in the nation’s most populous state. California is the only state with the authority to regulate air quality this way, part of an exception carved out in federal law in the 1970s. While other states can’t enact their own regulations, they can choose to follow California’s lead.

Maryland Gains Office of Outdoor Recreation–East Coast off-roaders may be benefiting from Maryland’s new Office of Outdoor Recreation within the state’s department of natural resources.

Maryland became the 18th state to create an OREC, following Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Virginia, and Wisconsin, all of which launched their own in 2019.

“One of our state’s hallmarks is the stewardship of our lands and waters by the Marylanders who love them,” said Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. “Today we are honoring this partnership for the outdoors while assuring that it continues to grow with the establishment of Maryland’s first Office of Outdoor Recreation.”

Hogan also announced that J. Daryl Anthony would serve as the office’s first executive director. Anthony has 35 years of experience with the DNR, most recently as assistant secretary for land resources. He joined the DNR in 1983 as a park ranger and also served as a regional manager for the Maryland Park Service. Anthony will work with the Maryland Department of Commerce, other agencies, and various stakeholders to implement recommendations from the Maryland Outdoor Recreation Economic Commission.

Legislation ensures motorcyclists have a voice on infrastructure issues
The Motorcyclist Advisory Council Reauthorization Act, H.R. 2141 and S. 1853, is bipartisan legislation introduced in the House of Representatives by Reps. Mike Gallagher (R-Wisc.), Jared Huffman (D-Calif.), Gwen Moore (D-Wisc.), Don Young (R-Alaska), Julia Brownley (D-Calif.), Troy Balderson (R-Ohio), and Chris Pappas (D-N.H.) and in the Senate by Sens. Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Tammy Baldwin (D-Ill.), and Angus King (I-Maine) will reauthorize the Motorcyclist Advisory Council (MAC) for six years and expand membership on the council to include more motorcyclist voices and transportation officials.

The MAC serves as the only official forum for the motorcycling community to have an open dialogue with the U.S. Department of Transportation to discuss concerns about infrastructure design, issues with intelligent transportation systems, and other areas of safety affecting motorcyclists on the road.

The last iteration of the MAC was co-chaired by AMA Director of Government Relations Michael Sayre, and was disbanded after their formal recommendations where submitted to the Federal Highway Administration in early 2020. You can read those recommendations here.

H.R. 2141 and S. 1853 takes the lessons learned from the last iteration of the MAC and will create a more effective and diverse council that will issue three rounds of recommendations over six years.

MOTORCYCLE INDUSTRY NEWS FROM INDIA–While Kawasaki announced that all their motorcycles will be Electric in Developed Nations such as in Europe and North America by 2035 – the other Japanese major brand Honda is reported to launch an Electric Scooter in India next year.

It’s not surprising since many new small startup Indian companies with no automotive history have not only offered Electric Motorcycles and Scooters for sale in India but have also seen incredible growth in sales numbers.

Some may think sales growing from 20 units per month to 600 units after three months is nothing – but it shows investors the demand from customers. Percentage is also a significant number for new brands / companies entering any market.

Electric Scooters are especially having many new companies with huge sales because they are almost exclusively used for commuting within the city or within their neighborhoods.

Booking opens and closes in 10 minutes on their website as if it was a Cyber Monday deals or Amazon Prime Day – even though no Discounts or Freebies are offered by any small Electric Two-wheeler Company.

So, Honda’s decision to start with an Electric Scooter is a predictable market strategy. The Honda Activa scooter has been the highest selling Scooter every year in India for decades.

If they want to retain that unsurpassable lead, they had to offer an Electric Scooter. Activa is their “bread-and-butter” in India market.

All Two-wheelers have always had lot more sales than cars by customers here because:
– it consumes lot less fuel,
– is a whole lot more affordable to purchase (for some even a loan is not required),
– those who want to travel daily for work don’t need more than a pillion seat
– finding a parking spot is easier and parking charges for two-wheelers are a lot less
– maintenance expenses, cost of parts, repair costs, insurance policy charges, all cost less than any car
– for occasional family travel, there are many options including Taxis, Uber, tourist vehicles for hire, public transport Buses or Trains, etc.
– Last-mile Delivery to customers for the booming e-commerce websites in India including Amazon and restaurant food deliveries, for example Domino’s pizza, courier from DHL or FedEx etc are all dependent on two-wheelers.

No wonder – India has the world’s largest sales of two-wheelers with China being second highest in sales.

Honda set to enter electric two-wheeler segment in next Financial Year

Competition is set to heat up in India’s electric vehicle segment with Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) looking at launching an electric scooter next financial year to take on former partner Hero MotoCorp and the other two-wheeler companies of India, Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor and SoftBank-backed Ola Electric.

HMSI, the country’s second largest two-wheeler maker, declined to specify details of the product planned for the Indian market. People in the know of its plans said the company is in the process of testing electric scooter BENLY e, developed by Japanese parent Honda Motor, at the Automotive Research Association of India.

I ran across another project for Tim Crandall, a local welder and good guy. We need a shroud over the front door. I couldn’t get out today. That’s about the third or fourth thing we’ve found in this joint we’ve wondered about. Like, how the fuck could someone live here for 30 years and not address this?
 

 

Never a dull moment, but it’s all a positive adventure. Even fixing stupid shit, is a positive endeavor and keeping me from thinking about building another motorcycle.

OLD SCHOOL RULES

One thing I remember the most is we “rode” our bikes not ride them. We lived the life. Rode hard and fast and built our own bikes to be different.

There were no 60-Grand off-the-shelf bikes. It was the commonality of brothers, and trust was earned. Help was there when needed. If you needed a part, it was a given, but you better use or return it for someone else.

When in the fast lane we owned it, it was our style. Looked out for each other, you always knew there was backup between each other.

Riding was for the miles, the more miles we rode the better. Be it a short putt during the week or that weekend ride to nowhere. Pulling in to a local bar we always took it over the beer and woman, bartenders knew if there was to be no trouble beer was the answer.

We had nicknames like, Attitude Fred, Dirty Rich, Racist Roger, Monk, Percy the Professor, Big John, Uncle Dave, Jungle Head, Gentlemen Jim, Hippy John, Mute Ron, Mexican Mike, Pig Pen, Jaws, Bandit, Dago Mike, Tiny, Danny M, Cowboy, Preacher, Angle Mark, Pop, Tonto, Airhead, Wing Nut Frank, Hangmen Mark (RIP), Little Mike, Big Steve, Sportster Danny, Knucklehead Red, China Don, Lug Nut Louie, White Truck, and so many more, I can’t remember.

For years, I did not even know their real names– that didn’t matter. We had something in common, our bikes and riding.

We had no cares but the next ride to nowhere just the ride. Out running the cops was no big deal, some got caught, some got away, but we all lived to tell about it.

Packing a chick was always a pain, got to the point we didn’t need to pack, with all the women out there, there was no AIDS or all these weird diseases out there now. We didn’t care, pussy was pussy, and it was out there. I can even remember coming back from a run late on a Sunday, Two of us. We picked up two babes on the Freeway.

Haulin’ Ass Home that’s a story in itself.

 

 

Bikes were short and low, Ape Hangers, Drag Bars, Broomstick, Z-Bars and Flanders Risers. Had to have a Jockey shift or you were a pussy as some would say.

Each bike had its owner’s personality. We didn’t have to look at magazines or internet to get ideas. Stock front ends, VL Front end, or a stock H-D Springer were the best at the time. For us a long front end with pullback handlebars was a joke. They had no control in the traffic. Had to be functional.

Chrome! Who cares just more to clean, took away from the ride. A can of 49-cent flat black was the answer. You needed to kickstart your bike in the first or second kick or you were left holding the bag.

Yes, we kickstarted our bike’s. When the sound of an Electric start bike was in the air, it meant parts. Back then it was survival, parts were parts, but bad Karma always came with it, so that stopped. Making your own part for your bike was part of the personality you put into the machine.

Cool was taking parts from the ‘30s, ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s and making them work on your bike. Having all glass lenses, not plastic was cool. Everything was American made no foreign crap. Flatheads, Knuckleheads, Panheads and Shovelheads. God and Harley-Davidson said no to clones.

Another 100 years Harley will still be here. Going to Sturgis once a year behind a Motorhome does not mean you lived the life. No need to go to the local H-D dealer to change our oil. Up sweep pipes, Shotguns, Drag pipes or a Dick Allan 2 in-to-one collector. Ape Hangers over your head, drag racing with a Jockey Shift, one pair of Levies (which we called originals) we wore for years, when they were falling apart, we found a Hippy chick to stitch them back together.

Horseshoe taps on our engineer boots was not for the noise but to keep vehicles off our ass, put your boot on the pavement and throw a fury of sparks in the air like a Big Rig just exploded or throw a ball bearing in the air and it would hit the windshield like a 357 magnum.

Not to take 3 days to clean your bike for a Run but to make sure everything was tight, tuned and had fresh oil. If she leaked some oil you didn’t run to the H-D dealer, just meant she was alive. The bitch just left her mark on the pavement showing she was there.

Didn’t like to be told what to do, had enough of that in the military, most of us were Vietnam Era Vets and still had partners dying in Vietnam. The open road was our home, our life. Live the Life and We be Cool… That’s my opinion. Opinions are like assholes, and everyone has one. And that’s that, and I hope you don’t like it…

No Breakdowns, always made sure everything was good to go; you didn’t want to come home in a truck, because the harassment was crazy, always left ready for anything.

The ride lasted for years; it was the life we had.
Things sure have changed; the technology today in the bike industry is amazing, but what else? Hang on.

I knew some guys back then who were ahead of the times like Dick Allan (RIP) and Bob George (RIP). They did things that changed a lot for the industry.
What gets me is reading some of the Bike Mags. You see some bikes that took years to build. Years can’t image that, look at time you lost riding. Oh well, to each his own.

Well, I could go on for a few more days. Didn’t want to bore you with the good old days.
Everyone says their generation was great, but ours was the Best, The Bikes, The Road, The Women and Most of all The Freedom…Enough Said……………

Lewis’ sixth top-five finish of the season is a testament to not only his race craft, but to the steady progress he and the Moto Anatomy X team have made with the Twins FT. “It’s crazy to think what we have accomplished in this last year–a prestigious win at the Lima Half Mile and six top-five finishes overall,” said Lewis. “To end the season with a fourth at Charlotte Motor Speedway showed that we have been able to develop the Royal Enfield Twins FT into a competitive production-based race bike.”

Royal Enfield BUILD. TRAIN. RACE.

The Charlotte Half Mile was slated to be the fourth and final round of the Royal Enfield BUILD. TRAIN. RACE (BTR). Mother Nature had other ideas, however, and rainy weather forced race promoters to postpone Friday’s schedule to Saturday. The BTR women had other commitments, and unfortunately travel logistics did not allow for everyone to alter their schedules, resulting in the cancelation of the final BTR exhibition of the 2021 American Flat Track season.

“This is obviously not the ending we were hoping for, but this is a reality of racing,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing and Communications Lead – Royal Enfield Americas. “There are elements beyond our control and we have to roll with the punches. This marks the end of the American Flat Track BTR championship, but look for the women to be racing various events throughout the winter.

“I can’t express how proud I am of all the women in this program—watching them all push themselves both on and off the track and grow as racers, and as people. They are truly testament to the success of the Build. Train. Race. program and we are more excited than ever to reach to even bigger heights in 2022!”

Genesio became General Manager in 2007 of the start-up Althea Racing Team, which picked up trophies in the World Superbike and Supersport series, winning both world championship titles in 2011, with Carlos Checa and Davide Giugliano respectively riding to victory. In 2016, with BMW as partner, Althea again won the World Superstock Championship, with Raffaele Da Rosa in the saddle.

All motorcycles in the collection are ‘on the button’ and ready to race, having been maintained in the museum’s dedicated workshop, by technicians with years of experience in the paddock, and have recently ridden by Genesio and other riders.

Chainsaws, Golf Carts, Lawn Mowers… What’s Next?

Over the weekend, California Governor Gavin Newson signed a bill into law banning the sale of all off-road, gas-powered engines, including generators, lawn equipment, pressure washers, chainsaws, weed trimmers, and even golf carts. Under the new law, these machines must be zero-emissions, meaning they will have to be either battery-powered or plug-in.

This law is particularly concerning because of the status California holds within the national economy. The population and market size that California commands often forces manufacturers to react by changing products nationwide, to conform to California standards. Additionally, states with like-minded legislatures often follow with similar laws and regulations of their own.

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) is concerned that this action by California, will begin a cascading effect that will eventually result in the demise of the internal combustion engine and the fuel supply tied to it. During the legislative agenda setting meeting, held at the 2021 Meeting of the Minds, in Atlanta, Georgia this very issue was debated. Working with our state partners, the MRF is currently evaluating how best to address these concerns.

The final 2022 MRF Legislative Agenda will be made public in an upcoming American Biker Journal.

The inaugural Race of Gentlemen was held in 2012 on the beach in Asbury Park, NJ, just days before Hurricane Sandy made landfall.

New Jersey has a storied tradition of beach racing, including an epic 1-mile beach race in Cape May during the summer of 1905.

The exhibition featured the likes of Henry Ford, Louis Chevrolet and speed record holder Walter Christie. At the time, the Cape May beach was deemed the “finest racing beach” in the world.

But if she decides you’re an alright sort she’ll risk her life to pull you off the tracks from an oncoming train and then yell at you for an hour for being so stupid.

She is so biker even the bad boys say yes ma’am and no ma’am to her: whether or not she’s ever knocked them out. Which she is quite capable of doing. She was not born a Yankee, she is a daughter of the South but if you diss the flag in her presence…..you will be removed from her presence, and not by her pals. She will handle it herself.

This synopsis of the Saturday Trump rally in Des Moines is what you will NEVER read from the sewer system that calls itself American Journalism today. What you will now read about what that harridan waddling cuckolded pants-suited harpy Hillary Clinton calls The Deplorables……well let me put it this way: if what Any White is about to make you stand up and cheer for are deplorables…….let’s make the best of it.

How are ya’ll? Today, I am laying out my fall leather jacket, that sleek European style one with the purple butterflies that I wore to your house, and my Gold Star Wives for Trump t-shirt that I had specially printed for this occasion. I rolled out and dusted off my Michael Kors black leather gloves that go with my hand embroidered jacket… and smiled to myself that I can wear them because I want to, because they are fucking expensive and badass… since covid has made gloves fashionable again.

I am debating jeans and my high dollar cowboy boots, and my Ivanka Trump purse or leather pants and my purple coach boots and one of my purple coach bags… the Gold Star Wives colors are purple and gold… of course. Since Bob died, I feel the same way about these colors as bikers feel about theirs. I sometimes wonder if he supplied me with all this supple purple leather, because he knew he was dying of Agent Orange diseases, and he knew me THAT well… knew I would wear these colors for him. Property of the United States Army, I reckon.

My new t-shirt gives me a pretty good chance at a seat directly behind him…. If that happens, and I wind up on tv, I am intentionally wearing thousands of dollars of gear. Kiss my capitalist ass, CNN. Not all Trumpers are poor white trash… or some, like me, not poor white trash any longer.

I am considering heading to the fairgrounds tonight and sleeping in my car. They are expecting tens of thousands of people… and folks are already lining up. I am jittery with excitement. It’s a feeling that is a combination of what it feels like to be going to see my Daddy and going to see a lover; like going to church and going to war. I guess that’s what patriotism feels like.

The local news sites are filled with people threatening and jeering at Trumpers who will attend the rally, and I am going to be driving through those nasty protesters in my red car with Make America Great Again embossed on the hood!
 
 

The old biker, the old journalist, in me, is loving it… the thrill of heading to a protest once again feels much like what I think I remember sex was like. Almost breathless, anticipating. The Confederate blood in my veins is boiling and my soul wide awake and pacing at the thought of possible confrontation, basking in the energy of fear and excitement as I prepare my particular style of uniform for battle, and hide my .45 in the console of my Trump adorned car.

The atmosphere at a Trump rally, is indescribable. Tomorrow, it will feel like I stepped out of an amalgam of various horror films and right into the America I was born to inherit. Clean, happy, friendly people will gather like a huge family reunion, an endless sea of red capped humanity… fresh Iowa fall air that smells like hay and wind and corndogs… old people holding hands and children laughing and Lee Greenwood singing over a loudspeaker.

They are televising a famous Iowa football game for the crowd on giant movie screens and opening the fair concession stands… all that will be missing is a meter maid on a blue 45 trike and a man in a white suit and bow tie to pump gas. All of those thousands of people just shining with hope and love and fucking America… secure in the knowledge that by the end of the night, we will all have laughed together, cried together, and stood in awe together, at the feet of our patriarch, our Tony Soprano… our Ronald Reagan, our Teddy Roosevelt, our Eisenhower… our hero.

All those liberals call us a cult and say Trump is our Jesus… nah, he is our Moses… leading us as best he can through a wasteland of bullshit as we try to figure out how to get our country back on track with the good Lord.

NOBODY who has never been to a Trump rally, realizes what it takes to go to a Trump rally. If you don’t get there early, several hours early… you don’t get in. At this one, I arrived 9 hours early and the main area gate closed in front of me…. The only reason I got in is my shirt, and me saying loudly to secret servicemen, I AM DEAF… I AM DEAF.. to get took to the handicapped section that still had seating.

You stand in a crush of people for several hours and walk for miles till the secret service opens the metal detectors. You can’t bring so much as a cracker or drink of water in. No chair, no umbrella, no food, no coolers, no containers… nothing but yourself and a tiny bag.

Inside, there is about a half mile line to potty or buy a corn dog or bottle of water, and only a few hundred get chairs or bleachers.. the vast majority is gonna stand about 12 hours straight in direct sun or rain… no shade, ever… with very little chance of a drink or food…. That’s even if you can get thru the crowd to a concession stand.

Once you get patted down by multiple secret service officers, you are not allowed to go out and back in.. you know once you are in, you won’t be going back out to your car or to eat until you leave. The gates opened at 2. Trump didn’t speak till 8. And then it’s always a 2-3 hour speech, and all of us, KNOW this is what we are heading into and do it gleefully, just for a chance to stand on the same fairgrounds as him.

Knowing this, think about tens of thousands of old folks on walkers, that Vet I sat with, the children and the nuns. It’s fucking unreal.

And I’ll tell you something else. Twice, I left my seat. Once to pee, in a porta potty, soon as I got seated. And about 6, I went to a particularly dense area of crowd at the edge of my area and squatted and snuck half a camel.

Both times, I left my one of a kind hand tooled jacket and one of my coach bags with a Michael Kors wallet under my seat. You just can. Twice, people around me lost their cellphones and a watch elsewhere on the grounds. Both items were returned within an hour, by strangers who found them. It’s like, all wickedness, all nefariousness, is left at your car.

Children run and play unsupervised; people take their shoes off and walk around in socks and feet… everyone talks to everyone. Everyone takes rest breaks sitting or squatting and offers everyone else a hand to help them off the ground. Teenagers let little old ladies have their places in line or help them walk, sometimes for an hour or two, just holding their arm while they chat with their friends. Nobody pushes or shoves and very few cut in line, and I am talking thousands and thousands of people forming ONE line to be screened by the SS for HOURS…

Some people DO bring things like chairs and tripods and umbrellas and leave them at the gate and just get them when they leave. I don’t know if it’s all the cops and secret service, or what, but you KNOW you and your shit is safe.

Nobody is a stranger. Nobody is making fun of anything… everyone is hugging and holding hands and sharing stories with tears streaming down their faces, when you tell your story. Everyone in line around you listens politely and hugs you when you are done. My particular job in the MAGA family waiting lines is, because I TOWER over almost everyone, people all day hand me their phones to hold over my head and take panoramic photos of the crowds.

I probably held $50,000 worth of phones yesterday of people I never seen before and never will again. The richer people buy big pans of food at the concession stands and bring them to the bleachers and just hand them out to the poor people. People take off hats and pins and trinkets and give them to each other. Its somewhere between Christmas and Woodstock.

All this shit about us being TERRORISTS? LMAO.. nah… we are a tableau of the good.. the best… in every single one of us. We are the GREAT part, of America.

Yes, there were black rapper types with gold teeth, pinup girls, beauty queens in tiaras, Spanish boys with tattoos on their throats, soccer moms… A homeless vet, RVers, teachers, an Elvis impersonator and weight lifters. This is what irritates me about the media claiming it’s white pride rallies. It’s the opposite of that. You hear a constant droning chatter of accents and languages. It’s a family reunion of the human race.

Hans Schifferle, the film critic and essayist, died at the age of 63 in April of this year, and during the 1980’s he cut an imposing figure. Schifferle walked the streets clad in leather and often arrived on one of his motorcycles.

Hans Schifferle moved through the world in an unpretentious way and loved films and actors like Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Schifferle spent his days writing, talking smack in the foyer of the Munich Film Museum, or tipping a drink on the stairs of the workshop cinema.

Schifferle, born in 1957 in Munich, spent a good stretch of his career writing the Süddeutsche Zeitung and for fan and trade magazines like Steadycam. He also penned innumerable articles for books and catalogs and, like so many cinéphiles of his generation, he found inspiration from the writings of Frieda Grafe.

As a ticket-taker at the Munich Film Museum, Schifferle tore off the stubs before he attended screenings himself. And if you had the pleasure of drinking a dark beer with him and listening as he raved about films, you began to understand cinema as a school of life.

He was a child of privilege and lived in an apartment which also served as a salon of sorts. His means also allowed him to collect some of the most interesting and fantastic motorcycles in history. And his obsession with motorcycles allowed him to put together a superb collection.

One of those bikes was a Ducati 750SS, a version of the bike Paul Smart rode to his famous victory at Imola in 1972. That machine put the esthetically beautiful and speedy Ducati v-twin on the map. During that race, Smart defeated a long list of the hottest machines of the day, from the Triumph Tridents to the works 750 MV Agusta of Giacomo Agostini.

The 750SS received near universal praise from the motorcycling press. Cycle magazine said the “bike that stands at the farthest reaches of the sporting world – the definitive factory-built café racer.” Today, the 750SS is regarded as a true landmark model and is one of the most sought-after of all Ducatis.

Hans Schifferle bought this Ducati 750SS in June 2002 from the Turin-based collector, Genni Carelli. It is believed that Mario Sassi had restored the machine.

His collection also included a 1941 Indian 1,279cc Four though it’s said Schifferle never had the chance to ride it.

His MV Agusta 750 GT, yet another ultra-rare machine, was distinguished by its white and bronze color scheme and, just 50 were sold as a result of an astronomically high initial price tag. Schifferle’s bike of one of the most sought-after MV roadsters, and his original example remains one of the very few which remain unmodified.

The critic also owned an Egli-Vincent was distinguished by Egli’s trademark large tube spine type frame.

His 1955 Vincent 998CC Black Knight is a matching-numbers exemple, and is one of 200 enclosed series-D twin models built by Vincent. Schifferle’s model is thought to be one of the earliest Egli frames manufactured for the Slater Brothers. His friend and mechanic Helmut Lichtenberg completely rebuilt it, and it features a ‘fishtail’ silencer, a Campagnolo front disc brake; alloy wheels; and a Smiths 150mph speedometer.

And Schifferle owned yet another American classic, a 1956 Harley Davidson KH, which represents Harley Davidson’s last ‘flat-head model. The 55ci KH featured an upgraded engine and modified frame (for better handling) compared with the model K roadster on which it was based.

Schifferle and his wife, Gudrun, traveled extensively around Europe in search of components to restore and maintain his stable of machines. Along with his friend and former Grand Prix racer Lichtenberg, Schifferle enjoyed visiting the leading auto events at Imola, Mannheim, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, and various other events to locate rare parts for his restorations.
