BIKERNET BONNEVILLE PILOT AND MONSTER DRINK GIRL–Valerie Thompson is off to a great start for 2006 AHDRA (All Harley Drag Racing Association). Monster Energy Drink (Hansen Beverage Company) has just signed as the top sponsor for VTRaceGirl for 2006.
Hacienda Harley Davidson of Scottsdale, AZ has also jumped on board for another season. Rick Hatch has put Valerie in seat of Hacienda’s new 2006 Harley Davidson Destroyer to ride this year.
This year the team of VTRaceGirl and Monster Energy Drink has set a lofty, but very attainable goal for our favorite racer. Valerie has set in motion the tools and people necessary to be the fastest female on two wheels at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Vini Bergeman (Big Daddy-The Kustomizer-Discovery Channel) is working with Charlie Mitchell (Custom Performance) to build the bike and we all know that VT is working her tail off to make sure her skills and confidence will pilot that bike that will go 200+ mph.
This year Avon Tires, Barnett, Custom Performance, Hacienda Harley Davidson, HJC Legend Air Ride Suspension, Monster Energy Drink, Phoenixbikers.com, and The Kustomizer are on board for 2006 VTRaceGirl sponsorship.
In December 2005, Valerie attended the Frank Hawley’s NHRA Drag Racing School. Strap on a Pro Stock Suzuki and drop the hammer at 9,000 rpm; 5 gears and 7 seconds later, you are at 170 mph. It is like being shot from cannon. This is Pro Stock racing. George Bryce, your personal instructor, has a reputation for developing champions. His teams and riders have won countless national championships in NHRA, AMA, ProStar and IDBA. This is the only professionally run pro stock motorcycle course in the world.
Last race of the season was in Las Vegas, NV, November 2005. Valerie was the #1 qualifier in her class (Super Sport). At the Sunday ceremony, Valerie was the only girl standing.
Valerie’s goals for next year are set high! Sky is the limit with no limits. The first goal is too get the first WIN out of the way with many more are to follow.
Some of Valerie’s highlights for 2005: BUB Bonneville Salt Flats, #1 Qualifier, NHRA Frank Hawley’s Drag School, Meeting incredible people through all the traveling— fans, competitors, and bike builders.
Special thanks to those who have stood and supported VT in 2005. First and foremost, my biggest fan and supporter–Charlie Mitchell, Custom Performance, Legend Air Suspension, BIKERNET.COM, Hacienda Harley Davidson, Kirk Johnson-Phoenixbikers.com, Militec-1, Avon Tyres, Barnett, Next Level Custom Signs, J. Gordon, Last Lake Resort, HJC, Keith Ball, Kenny Spievy, Matthew Kurtz, Jesse Lopez, Dave Little, and Jamie McNaughton from Harley Davidson Motor Company. Thank you Kirk Johnson of Phoenixbikers.com for keeping my website fresh and up-dated.

COYOTE CUSTOMS ALERT–Listed on your bike shop page is a shop, Coyote Customs, which you need to be aware of. They have 17 complaints filed against them with the BBB. Jason Conley (owner) is not to be trusted and has cheated and lied to many customers. The BBB gives them an unsatisfactory rating. I think you need to be aware of this due to the fact you are giving free advertising to this guy. It sullies your business to have any association with this company.
Here is the link the BBB with his file. http://www.oklahomacity.bbb.org/commonreport.html?bid=13004786
–Mark
This gives me a lot of distress. Check out what the Better Business Bureau says and make your own decision regarding this shop. I dislike disgruntled customers who set out to hurt a business. On the other hand I Hate to publish news or information on any company that takes advantage of riders. If you have a different view, don’t hesitate to let us know.–Bandit
BIKERNET TRAVEL RECOMMENDATIONS–Sitting together on a train, traveling through the Swiss Alps, are aFrench guy an American guy, an old Greek lady and a young blondeSwiss girl.
The train goes into a dark tunnel and a few seconds later there isthe sound of a loud slap.
When the train emerges from the tunnel, the Frenchman has a brightred hand print on his cheek. No one speaks.
The old lady thinks: The Frenchman must have groped the blonde in thedark, and she slapped his cheek.
The blonde thinks: That Frenchman must have tried to grope me in thedark, but missed and fondled the old lady and she slapped his cheek.
The Frenchman thinks: The American must have groped the blonde in thedark. She tried to slap him but missed and got me instead.
The American thinks: I can’t wait for another tunnel, so I can smackthat Frenchman again.

BIKERNET RESTAURANT REVIEWS–A young cowboy walks into a seedy cafe in Prescott, AZ. He sits at the counter and notices an oldcowboy with his arms folded staring blankly at a full bowl of chili.
After fifteen minutes of just sitting there staring at it, the young cowboy bravely asks the oldcowpoke, “If you ain’t gonna eat that, mind if I do?”
The older cowboy slowly turns his head toward the young wrangler and in his best cowboy mannersays, “Nah, go ahead.”
Eagerly, the young cowboy reaches over and slides the bowl over to his place and starts spooningit in with delight. He gets nearly down to the bottom and notices a dead mouse in the chili. Thesight was shocking and he immediately pukes up the chili into the bowl.
The old cowboy quietly says, “Yep, that’s as far as I got, too.”

HEAD GASKET BLUES–
Sittin here looking at my gal,
Wondering if I should throw in the towel?
She’s up on the rack
Should I really try to bring her back?
How could she be so one way
As to leave me sitting here with her heart in a tray?
I heard her death rattle, it ruined my day
How could the bitch just die this way
Her blood all over my britches
Aint it just like those bitches
Ruin a man’s day make him pay
All because he wanted to play?

DAKAR/PARIS RACE REPORT–The first time I report on the Dakar for a bike magazine and one of only two Aussie riders is killed. With everything else that has happened recently I’m starting to see a real pattern developing here. It’s lucky I don’t have a depressive personality huh?
I never met Andy personally, he lives in a small bush town, a long way from Sydney. But the Rally racing community is very small in Oz, so I know those that do know him. It’s all over our news here…sad that for Aussies to hear about the Dakar one of them has to die in it. A few days ago and no one here knew anything about the Rally, much like most in the USA I would guess.
I have copied the news from Yahoo Rally Report. When you read the report about broken necks, it’s a moot point to remember that guys race off road every weekend all over the world and are perfectly OK. I am beginning to suspect that a combination of too high a speed and fatigue is responsible. These guys have been doing 500 kilometer race stages thru the desert, getting a few hours sleep at night, then doing the same again next morning.
Add 300 transport stages to be covered and that’s almost a 1000 kay a day. That’s tough on a normal road, let alone thru the rough desert terrain.Andy said in an interview a last year that he had decided not to do another Dakar, but the lure of the Rally brought him and many others back again.

CRUISERS FOR $3200–Got a call from Johnny Pag today. This hits home. He’s developed a factory in China and is building these 250 cc, entry level cruisers for $3,200 retail. He’s also manufacturing fenders for Paul Yaffe, frames for race cars and brackets for rain gutters. He can have anything built to your specs in China.
We’re having a debate about American made over overseas products in It’s Your Shot letters right now. It’s a strange world we live in, a global economy that still doesn’t understand one another. But that’s the deal and you can find out more about Johnny’s cruisers and his abilities to manufacture any product by going to the dealer show in Indy or clicking on his web site: JohnnyPag.com.
He’s a Hamster who has been build custom bikes and products for our industry for 30 years.
“I am doing a lot of work in china facility for American motorcycle production companys, like Big Dog, etc,” Johnny said. “We can manufacturer a chrome moly Softail style frame for 200 bucks, and it’s tight, not sloppy.”
BIKERNET EDITORIAL COMMITTEE REPORT ON THE FUTURE OF MOTORCYCLING–Hiway and I have discussed the future of motorcycling, both in the USA and around the world. Our conclusions are that the Harley company really needs to put some serious thought into future directions. Their bikes are getting more expensive, with the high cost of modern living many younger riders can only dream of owning a brand new one, and Harley makes little money from used ones except in their parts department.
In the UK particularly there is a real trend away from Harley’s and other exotica. It’s why so many build and run Street fighters now.How many guys and gals in their twenties do you reckon want or can afford a Harley in the USA?
Triumph in the UK managed to rise from the ashes, but they changed their bikes in a major way…you are probably aware that custom choppers are really only big in America, many countries motor transport offices just will not register them.
I’d like to say I have a solution for Harley at hand, but I don’t. Unless they are prepared to make a completely new (for them) design of bike and engine. I really see that as their only alternative to hanging up in say 20 years time.Guys our age won’t be riding forever (I know we’ll try)..what is Harley going to do then?
— Jaq.

Hey,
I can tell the holidays are toast and the biker world is in full swing once more. Dealer show plans are flying. Daytona schedules are growing. We’re clearing the lifts for our Bonneville efforts and half the country is praying for good riding weather.
I’m going to jump right into the news. It’s packed and will take me beyond happy hour to complete. Then I need to adjust the valves on the Shovelhead, fire her to life and clear the lift. We’re going to Bonneville and the teams are growing. I need to mock up my CCI V-Bike chassis designed by John Reed for the 120-inch Panhead engine from Accurate Engineering and the 6-speed performance tranny from Baker. We’re rocking.
Let’s hit the news and I’ll show you what we screwed up this week and our first Bikernet Build-off bike:
TATTOO OF THE WEEK–Maybe the month. We don’t know. We haven’t even looked at the other entries. Quick send us something better. The winner gets a Bikernet T-shirt. Beat this one, sucka. Send your entry as a jpg image to Bandit@bikernet.com.
This one came from Russell Roberts.
SPIRIT BELLS FROM BIKERNET–I got the Spirit Bell. Looks very cool. Thanks, man! I hung it under the triple tree on my twinkie. I haven’t had any real problems yet with the bike, but it’s getting to the age where it’s gonna start giving me problems. Any good mojo will help!
I got laid the next night and the biker ran better than ever. That damn bell works..
Ride it like you’re on a test ride (Gotta figure out how to shorten that one up).
Peace, brother!

FLORIDA DROPS HELMET PROPOSAL–TALLAHASSEE — Ride on.Florida highway-safety officials have dropped a proposal that would have made it harder for motorcyclists to thunder down the roads without wearing helmets. The proposal, which surfaced in September after a federal report showed increasing motorcycle deaths in Florida, would have required bikers to carry $50,000 in health insurance if they wanted to leave their lids at home. Current law requires only $10,000 in insurance coverage.
But after learning that the insurance policies could be hard to find and costly — and after getting a cool reception from Gov. Jeb Bush and the state Cabinet — the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles scrapped the idea.
“We checked around,” said Fred Dickinson, the department’s executive director. “There ain’t a whole lot of business (motorcycle health insurance policies) being written.”
The department’s decision became apparent Tuesday as a state House committee reviewed a proposed highway-safety bill for the upcoming legislative session.

ITALIAN AMERICAN HOG CHAPTER–The Aviano HOG Chapter is a unique chapter located in the Friuli Region of Northern Italy. We’re the only all American HOG Chapter in Europe and comprised almost exclusively of U.S. military personnel. Additionally, we’re the only chapter in the world to operate under a sponsoring director and not under a sponsoring dealership as authorized by H-D and HOG. We will be conducting our annual “Blessing of the Bikes” in March 2006.
Historically, we’ve had approximately 150-200 people, both Italian and American present at this local event. We start off at a beautiful church nestled in the Italian Alps where we conduct a benediction in both Italian and English followed by a procession down to the small town of Aviano. When we arrive at the Western House Restaurant, the street is blocked off for motorcycles only and the festivities begin.
The Chapter provides free pizza and entertainment to all that attend. Our main event is a raffle which is normally odds and ends donated from the chapter membership. In the end a fun safe time is had by all.
Here in Italy, the Euro dollar is becoming stronger and prices are rising. The chapter membership utilizes mail order companies and stateside vendors such as you for all of its parts and accessory purchases. This is how you have been identified. We are requesting donations of prizes for the “Blessing of the Bikes” raffle. These donations would help to support this event and make it even betterAny items that you may choose donate will be greatly appreciated. Donations may only be shipped via US Postal Service to our Chapter Address:

Applicants must complete a motorcycle learner’s permit application and pay required fees. But now they will take the knowledge test immediately after returning the application. PennDOT will issue a motorcycle learner’s permit if the applicant passes the test.Motorcycle learner’s permits issued before Monday will not be affected by the change

BIKERNET RELIGIOUS MOMENT–A biker is riding down the road and breaks down near a monastery. He goes to the monastery, knocks on the door, and says, “My scooterbroke down. Do you think I could stay the night?” The monksgraciously accept him, feed him dinner, and even fix his bike.As the man tries to fall asleep, he hears a strange sound.
The next morning, he asks the monks what the sound was, but theysay, “We can’t tell you. You’re not a monk.”
The man is disappointed but thanks them anyway and goes abouthis merry way. Some years later, the same man breaks down infront of the same monastery. The monks again accept him, feedhim, and even fix his bike. That night, he hears the samestrange noise that he had heard years earlier.
The nextmorning, he asks what it is, but the monks reply, “We can’t tellyou. You’re not a monk.”
The man says, “All right, all right. I’m dying to know. If theonly way I can find out what that sound was is to become a monk, how do I become a monk?” The monks reply, “You must travel theearth and tell us how many blades of grass there are and theexact number of sand pebbles. When you find these numbers, youwill become a monk.”
The man sets about his task. Some forty-five years later, hereturns and knocks on the door of the monastery. He says, “Ihave traveled the earth and have found what you have asked for. There are 145,236,284,232 blades of grass and231,281,219,999,129,382 sand pebbles on the earth. “
The monksreply, “Congratulations. You are now a monk. We shall now showyou the way to the sound.”
The monks lead the man to a wooden door, where the head monksays, “The sound is right behind that door.” The man reachesfor the knob, but the door is locked. He says, “Real funny.May I have the key?”
The monks give him the key, and he opensthe door. Behind the wooden door is another door made of stone.
The man demands the key to the stone door. The monks give himthe key, and he opens it, only to find a door made of ruby.He demands another key from the monks, who provide it. Behindthat door is another door, this one made of sapphire. So itwent until the man had gone through doors of emerald, silver, topaz and amethyst.
Finally, the monks say, “This is the last key to the last door.”
The man is relieved to no end. He unlocks the door, turns theknob, and behind that door he is amazed to find the source ofthat strange sound.
But I can’t tell you what it is.
You’re not a monk.

STEALTH NORTH CAROLINA SHOP REPORT–I hope everyone had a great New Year’s holiday! Here at STEALTH BIKE WORKS we are getting back in the groove. The holidays are over and we are looking forward to spring time already.
We keep moving along on our ground up projects. The ’71 shovel is taking shape. The ’78 shovel has been broken down and the frame and a few other parts are at the powder coaters. Our customer base is starting to form as we see repeat customers every week and that is a very good indication of how SBW is moving along. I think our customers like the atmosphere at SBW. No high pressure sales techniques. We want people to feel at home and relaxed while they are at SBW. It does not matter that they spend money each time. I what them to come in to talk bikes, after all that is what is SBW is really about bikes and bikers!
We have the Easyrider Bike Show here in Charlotte in Feburary, so we will be making arrrangements to be there. Events like this make the winter pass by a little quicker. The weather here has been great lately, temps near 60–65 degrees, so a lot of bikes have been on the road.
I was driving to SBW this morning I was thinking about as we get older we see and look at things so differently. You start to realize what is important in life, things like your family and friends, your health. For me I have also realized that money is not always the most important thing in life. Right now I may not make as much money as I used to but I am much happier and just maybe that is worth the trade off. There were also some events that took place this week that made realize too how lucky I am to have opened STEALTH BIKE WORKS and I realize that if it was not for one person pushing me to do it I may have never have done it. She knows who she is without mentioning any names.
So as you proceed into 2006 take stock of what is really important in your life and if you can let go of what is not. On the last day of your life I don’t think you will say “I wish I had just one more dollar,” for me it will be I wish I had one more ride! Even though it may be hard sometimes ENJOY LIFE!
Until next week, RIDE!

MORE ON JANKLOW–Janklow’s history of abuse goes back many years. Indian women on the Pine Ridge S.D. reservation recall that when he was first starting out in politics as a young lawyer running for District Attorney, he was indicted by their tribal court for rape of a 15 year-old girl. His reply was that he didn’t recognize a tribal court’s authority and was elected to DA.
He then ran for other offices proclaiming himself an “Indian Fighter” and using abusive tactics against Indians for many years much to the delight of a prejudice voting block who continued to elect him to office. Unfortunately it finally took Bikers to bring him down but read on— you’ll find the following quite interesting about the character of this “public official”:
Janklow’s Indian AbusesOliver North lied to Congress and lost his bid for a Virginia seat in the US Senate. William “Wild Bill’ Janklow allegedly raped a young Lakota woman and was elected Governor of South Dakota.
On November 8, 1994, Bill Janklow defeated former Wesleyan University professor Jim Beddow by a 55%-41% margin, elevating him to the Governorship for the third time. He formerly served as the state’s top official from 1978-’82, and from 1986-’90.
Janklow began his career in the late 1960’s as head of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe’s legal services program. He built a reputation as an excellent poverty lawyer who had come to the aid of many destitute Rosebud residents.
AIM veteran Russell Means remembers Janklow as a “great guy,” who was humorous and fun to be with, but who didn’t like Indian people, and who gave up on Indian Law when he realized there was no future in it.
American Indian Movement leader Dennis Banks says he knew of Janklow as early as 1970 from talks with then-Rosebud Tribal Council President Robert Burnette. Burnette, a highly respected man among his people, told Banks that Janklow had raped a fifteen-year-old Rosebud girl named Jancita Eagle Deer. Eagle Deer, ashamed when the horrible story spread, fled the reservation and disappeared. Janklow refused to face the charges in Rosebud tribal court and was hence barred from practicing law on the reservation. His eyes set on state politics, Janklow fancied himself an “Indian Fighter”-in the tradition of George Armstrong Custer-who left the reservation and became an assistant prosecutor for the South Dakota state Attorney General’s office. Jancita Eagle Deer had disappeared, but the rape charge wasn’t going to.
In 1974, Janklow prosecuted and jailed Sarah Bad Heart Bull, a Lakota woman whose son, Wesley, had been stabbed in the heart at a Buffalo Gap bar by a white businessman named Darold Schmidt. Despite witness accounts that Schmidt said he was “going to kill him an Indian,” he was charged only with involuntary manslaughter.

VIPER MOTORCYCLE COMPANY ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF MANUFACTURING FACILITY AND 2006 PRODUCT LINE WITH PROPRIETARY VIPER ENGINES– New Hope, MN – January 5, 2006 – (Pink Sheets: VPWS) – Viper Powersports has entered into a binding agreement to purchase a 32,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility on 4 acres located in Monticello, MN. The facility meets Viper’s current manufacturing needs and is zoned for expansion as Viper continues to expand and grow.
Viper Motorcycle Company will introduce its second model, the Diablo Power Cruiser (PC) at the V-Twin Expo by Easyriders in Cincinnati on February 4th – 6th. Viper will also introduce its own line of proprietary engines ranging from 115 to 152 cubic inches.
“This is a very exciting time for us,” states Terry Nesbitt, President Viper Motorcycle Company. “We are introducing the Diablo PC and our own line of proprietary engines. With the help of GE Financing and the best dealer programs in the industry, 2006 promises to be an exciting year for Viper Motorcycle Company.”
“Motorcycle consumers and the general public have been deluged with kit bikes and custom cycles. The media has saturated the public with the sexiness of this type of bike. Viper feels the need to call out the quality, ridablity and performance of a manufactured product verses a kit bike,” states Nesbitt.
“With the introduction of our own engines, Viper joins Harley Davidson and Victory as the only true OEM’s in the cruiser segment,” comments Nesbitt. “The Viper engine is an all billet construction, big bore/short stroke that develops incredible power while offering a smooth ride. In addition, with the Viper patented technology, our engines produce 30% less heat than the competitive air-cooled v-twin which greatly enhances overall reliability.”
According to Nesbitt, “The Diablo PC joins the already successful Diablo for 2006. The PC is a long and low variation of the Diablo with a 21 inch front wheel and a 38 degree rake. A third model will join the product line for 2006 and all will be available with different engines. Our dealer network is growing, and we continue to build value in the Viper brand.”
Viper Motorcycle Company designs and manufactures custom motorcycles, accessories, and motorcycle engine component parts with patented technology using Computer Aided Design (CAD). Many of the motorcycle and motorcycle engine component parts are machined from solid billets of aluminum utilizing Computer-Numerical-Control (CNC) machines. Visit the Viper website at http://www.vipermotorcycle.com.

Models they fit: Harley Davidon Softail, Road King and Road Glide models with traditional shape footboards. Indian Chief footboards. Now also available for the Harley Davidson Swept Wing shape footboards.
Will work with Lindby Bars. Will NOT work with aftermarket footboards.

Installation is easy: Remove the rubber inserts from the footboard and lay the template onto the exposed floorboard. Using a sharpie pen, draw two circles where the board is to be drilled. Remove the template and drill with a 13/32 bit. Place the Cruisin? peg assembly under the footboard and drop the installation bolts from the topside, through the footboard, through the Cruisin? peg and secure with the two split washers & nylock nuts. Replace the rubber pads and go for a ride. Install time is approximately 45 min.

THE BLUE FLAME–This is Mike from OZ Motorcycle, good job with all the stuff your doing. If you know, the stretched blue bike, with the cool chick driving it, in some mag. ads you used to run? Do you know the leg and top tube stretch, and how long the forks are, also is that 1″ or 1an 1/8″ tubing? My welder/ fab guy wants to build one just like it with a blower (early jerry maguerson style (we have one) Shovelhead, we can and do build old school frames like that one, in 1-inch or 1 an 1/8. Any help with that info would be great. I’m going to send you some photos of my “old school (real deal) shovel choppers, it’s got a (REAL ONE) D&D ( before Paughco took them over) rigid frame, 15-inch over durfee girder, 15” american “mag” rear wheel, superspoke, 5 spoke daul disc ( 8″ rotors), “totally” chromed & polished motor and trans., on & on…, I’ll sent the pics, by the way it’s for sale.
Photos were taken in the late 70’s, early 80’s for “Easyriders”, but the photo guy took too many of my girlfriend, and never gave me any of the pictures, true story, as they say, “you can look it up”.

Terrific thing about the internet-archives. The Blue flame was built about 4 years ago. All the articles and specs are still in the Tech area. Check it out. Look forward to the shots of your bikes. –Bandit
I’M INNOCENT-I swear. Watch for several features to hit the pages of Bikernet in the very near future. We have our V-Rod, Night-Rod Road test ready to rock. Then there’s a feature on one of Branscomb Richmond’s 1902 Customs, the Renegade. Check the new fiction by Chuck Riddle, my S&S head install tech, and the rundown on Axiom Motorcycle Parts, a new Bikernet Sponsor.
That’s not all. We have a hot feature on the Ghetto Blaster Sportster custom from Departure Bike Works. There a story about a 82-year old outlaw from Hawaii and a tech on customizing shotguns by Larry Crowe for the ultimate home security device.
John Gilbert and Jason Douglas, the digitalgangster, are burning the midnight oil to launch the Girls of Bikernet in March. Hang on for that one. If you want to contribute photos, be a model or have your bike featured drop JohnGilbert@bikernet.com a line.
I need to hit the iron pile, the showers, the phone (to return calls), the computer to edit stories, the bike lifts to wrench bikes, the liquor store for more whiskey and the Wilmington house of ill repute for another babe. Busy afternoon.
Ride Forever,

BEVERLY HILLS CHOPPERS UNVEILS $250,000 SWAROVSKI CRYSTAL-INCRUSTED ‘PARIS HILTON BIKE’– BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Beset with more than 100,000 Swarovski crystals, Beverly Hills Choppers announces the completion of the most unbelievable custom chopper ever fabricated. After 6 months of fabrication and embellished with countless crystals by hand, the bike was finally given to the pop icon and self proclaimed “original Beverly Hills Angel,” Paris Hilton.
This bike has been so anticipated by the press, that the paparazzi have stopped at nothing to try and get a picture of the bike before it’s unveiling. One resourceful picture bandit climbed five stories to the top of co-founder and alleged mafia figure, Johnny Lew Fratto’s, penthouse apartment in Beverly Hills where the bike was being stored. Caught red handed unwrapping the finished midi from its protective plastic covering, he was thrown out before he could get the “money shot.” The bike was promptly moved to an undisclosed and secure indoor location.
In addition to the crystals, which also spell out the name Paris on the tank, the bike sports a custom pink paint job and pin striping from renowned pinstriper, Bob Iverson. The pint sized powerhouse has a 6 horsepower, 2-stroke, fully automatic Tecumseh engine with electric start and can reach speeds up to 70 miles an hour without having to shift. The engine is fully chromed and includes custom modified exhaust that is sure to turn heads, if Paris doesn’t already. Other custom features that make this bike unique include an Ipod dock, a custom Tom-Tom navigation system that says “that’s hot” in Paris’s voice upon start up and a gas cap that doubles as a compact mirror.
No motorcycle would be complete without the proper rider decked out in the right gear. Ever the fashion plate, Paris will also be presented with matching Swarovski crystal covered riding shoes, helmet and a Beverly Hills Angels jacket created by rockstar designer Eric “G-Man” Gottesman.
Beverly Hills Choppers is a division of Fratto-Beich Productions; an entertainment production and brand creation company owned by Johnny Fratto and Wally Beich currently in development of a television series called “Son of a Gun.” A perfect mix of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “The Sopranos,” the series follows the day-to-day happenings of the company’s co-founder, Johnny Lew Fratto (a real life Chili Palmer), the son of a Midwest Mafia boss in Al Capone’s notorious Midwest army.
Through its demi-reality format, The Beverly Hills Choppers crew takes the viewer through a hilarious series of events that involve reputed gangsters, the Hollywood elite and well known business moguls. Be sure that the Choppers and Beverly Hills Angels apparel, which recently entered into a licensing deal with clothing manufacturer Larry Levine and Impulsewear, will have a starring role in this series.

CHOP N GRIND RACE TEAM AT HIGH DESERT PERFORMANCE SUPPORTS BIKERNET.COM–Sorta. Ever since last week’s Bonneville announcements, including the Sand-snorting bastards in the desert there has been a flurry of treacherous activity in the desert. On the agenda for the next Chop N Grind board of directors meeting, an ominous item tops the list bringing Bandit up for a vote. “After some of his comments I believe he should be thrown out of the Bikernet Bonneville Racing Association,” said Sammy Scorpion of the one-week-old association of Bikernet Bonneville racing teams. BIKERNET CHILDRENS TALE–Little Red Riding Hood is skipping down the road when she sees the Big Bad Wolf crouched down behind a log.
“My what big eyes you have, Mr. Wolf,” says Little Red Riding Hood.
The surprised wolf jumps up and runs away. Further down the road Little Red Riding Hood sees the wolf again, this time he is crouched behind a tree stump.
“My what big ears you have Mr. Wolf,” says Little Red Riding Hood.
Again the foiled wolf jumps up and runs away. About 2 miles down the road, Little Red Riding Hood sees the wolf again, this time crouched down behind a road sign. “My what big teeth you have Mr. Wolf,” taunts Little Red Riding Hood.
With that the Big Bad Wolf jumps up and screams, ” For Chrissakes!! Will you get lost?! I’m trying to take a dump!”

PONCE INLET POLICE CHIEF INJURED IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH–This old lady is in trouble. Will try to monitor this if it stays in the news. You can guarantee she will be charged with more than if it was you or I, But maybe it will set a president.

DAYTONA BEACH — Ponce Inlet’s police chief was injured in a traffic accident Sunday afternoon on Ridgewood Avenue when his motorcycle collided with a sedan at the Beville Road intersection, authorities said.Chief Steven R. Thomas, 51, was riding north on South Ridgewood Avenue shortly after 12:30 p.m. when the crash occurred, said Sgt. Al Tolley, Daytona Beach police spokesman.
Police said that according to witnesses, Lucille Bussiere Anderson, 82, of Port Orange, who was headed east on Beville Road, failed to stop at a red light. But Anderson said later she was stopped and watched the light turn green before proceeding into the intersection.
Ejected from the bike, Thomas hit the hood of the sedan and landed on the roadway. After driving onto the sidewalk, the sedan struck two signs before coming to stop on the east side of South Ridgewood Avenue.
EVAC ambulance took Thomas, who may have suffered a broken leg, to Halifax Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition later. He was not wearing a helmet.Anderson, who was not injured, was listed as the driver at fault due to a violation of right of way, Tolley said.
Anderson denied that she was at fault. In a phone interview late Sunday, she said, “I never went through a red light. The other cars were crossing so I went with the flow.”Tolley said charges are pending. Police detoured traffic off Ridgewood Avenue until the accident scene was cleared.

BIKERNET REPORTER EMBEDDED IN DAKAR–Aussie Andy Coldecott won yesterdays stage over the whole field. Started in 25th place, overtook all bikes in front and came in 3 minutes ahead of everyone else.

The guy I met at bike show recently, Chris Barrire Varju went from an unbelivable 163 postion to 62.

Hey,
It’s a new year, our 10th year, a year of progress, building race bikes and launching the Girls of Bikernet. I’m running around the shop, like a meth cooker who slipped and fell in a vat.
Our first move is to clear off our two lifts and make space for the new builds. First, I need to finish my grandson’s mini-chop. The frame, bars, kickstand, etc. are baking at Foremost Powder Coating. Hope to have it running this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed. When it’s up and running and off the Kendon lift, up goes the 45 flatheat chassis. The crate was delivered yesterday to ship the engine and tranny to Lee Clemens at Departure Bike Works.
I’ve wanted to make a handful of adjustments to the Sturgis Shovel including replacing the old cranky stock Shovelheads with new and improved S&S jobs. We’re going to repair the cracking oil lines, realign the Mikuni Carb, black out the pipes and hope she keeps running while I build the John Reed designed V from CCI with a 120 Accurate Pan for another Bonneville effort.
There’s so much more to report, but let’s get to the news:

NEW TRIBUTE ARTIST ON BIKERNET–I was just wondering if Bikernet would ever consider publishing the artwork I submitted here. I am the artist who did this piece as a tribute to a friend who is over in Iraq right now serving with the 419FW from Hill AFB in Utah. He’s coming back soon and looking forward to receiving the artwork I did of him. I title this piece “American Still”. This guy is very patriotic and a devoted Harley fanatic.
I realize he’s up in years but that’s because he’s in the Air Force Reserve and we’ve both spent many years serving. I recently retired with 30 years.
My interest in this is soley for his pride as he would be extremely proud to know his image would be published. Maybe there could be a place or article for military riders. It would be more than enough for me to know he could cherish the idea forever.
I’m also doing a work depicting another military member who has recently been diagnosed with stomach cancer. I am doing another duplicate of the piece submitted here but is a painting on panel. Anything you could do for this patriot would be greatly appreciated. If you want to see more of my style you can go to www.dcampsart.com

V-ROD NEWS FROM DAKAR–Team Hog Wild experienced mechanical problems during the Stage 3 1st Liason. Rumor has it that they had sprocket problems and recieved some mechanical assistance in temporarily rigging the damaged sprocket. Unofficial news is that they were not allowed or were unable to continue on the Special. The tracking system shows them proceeding on to the end of the stage and the bivouac, but no time is posted for the Special. More info forthcoming as it is received…
The latest speculation on Hog Wild Racing. In reading the rules, we found that a competitor arriving to the beginning of the Special more than 1 hour late is disqualified from the race and cannot continue on the course. All official equipment (electronics, road book, etc.) are supposedly surrendered to the officials. If the Iritrack system was functioning properly, there is no doubt that Scott and Duane arrived late. While we have not heard any official news, this unfortunate circumstance probably seals the deal for whether the team will be continuing. Sad news if it is all true.
Further details of the mechanical problem. Again, rumor has it that the front drive sprocket was worn completely down. The team supposedly sought out a mechanic and had one manufactured to get them back on the road. Unfortunately, this took too long.Cross posted from Sidecarcross.com website…
Chris Varju crashed badly twice in the Dakar today and is out. Broken collar bone and ribs. It looks to me on the standings page at http://www.dakar.com that half the bike field has DNF?
Scott and Duane I gather will be unable to continue because they came in late. Mossila has also disappeared, but so have many others?
My friend Chris Varju crashed twice and has broken a collarbone and three ribs, we saw him interviewed on local tv station. Now get this. His bike will shipped back to Paris…but…he has to make his OWN way back to whatever destination he chooses. We couldn’t believe it! He said live on air, if an entrant is not in a serious medical condition and needs to be transported via a hospital then said entrant must make his own way home at his own expense. Un****inbelievable!
Simon Pavey and Charley Boorman are also not on the standings list.
Good news for Aussies. Caldercott is 8th.Good news for Americans. Grider from Team Red Bull is hanging on at 32.
I don’t know where the Hummer is.Caldercot had no intention of racing the Dakar this year, a month ago a guy named Duran crashed and Andy got a phone call asking if he wanted to replace the bloke.I feel bad for Chris and your buddies on the V-Rod. It’s not called the toughest rally in the world for nothing I guess.
That’ s been my day .

AMDRAGS, which stands for American Motorcycle Drag Racing All Gas Series, features professional and amateur divisions with a class for most gasoline powered American V-Twin motorcycles starting with street ET and getting progressively faster and more serious.
The 2006 rules and classes are listed on the web site http://www.AMDRAGS.com.
THUNDER ALLEY DRAG RACE SCHOOL OPEN–In addition to the AMDRAGS races, there will be a Thunder Alley Race School on Saturday mornings. Run by Maura Hall, TARS is a 3 hour school to teach the fundamentals of motorcycle drag racing. Each student must supply his or her own motorcycle (and make, model or size) and riding gear. Instruction includes concepts and theory of motorcycle drag racing as well as several hours of track time under the watchful eye of the pro instructors.
Because class size is limited, preregistration is recommended. Info and registration at http://www.AMDRAGS.com

CRAZY HORSE PAINTING HATES WINTER–Well here it is again another wonderful year here at Crazy Horse Painting. I hate winter. I used to love winter. I would paint bikes all night and ski all day. I would sleep every once in a while. But here in the high profile world of big time custom motorcycles, ya gotta win shows. So that means long nights and days almost everyday after New Years until Daytona Bike Week in March. Trying to create something that will hopefully blow everyone’s doors off. It sounds more fun than it is as the bike show deadlines ominously loom over my head like a dark cloud reminding me, “get that paint finished fast or you’re screwed! And it has to great! ”
Too bad I’m not painting this lovely lady on a bike. I painted her for an airbrush contest this fall. East Coast vs west. I went up against Deborah Bryant from Craig Fraser’s shop. The whole thing was featured in Auto Graphics magazine.
This sweet pan belongs to Bowzer from Agoura Hills, CA. (Humm?) We got a few other new rides over in the Reader Showcase so check ’em out and send yours in. Maybe I’ll get my ass and post it even.
No real news from Waxhaw Creek, NC. Nothing happened here this week. Not if you don’t count all the guns going off New Years Eve. But that was it, hicks shooting guns. And no we didn’t do any of that at the Crazy Horse farm. Nope. Not us. No, no those aren’t shells all over the front porch. They’re very narrow dixie cups with brass bottoms.
Hey! A few cars drove by this week. The mail got delivered today. But that’s they way we like it here. Boring with just gunfire and sporatic mail delivery. Maybe I’ll fire up the chopper this weekend and wake up the place. Too busy painting to ride it. Stupid winter! My baby chop don’t like to come home. Damn bike will roam all over the place for hours before it decides to come back. I didn’t ride New Years day. I cleaned out a shed. I’m such a hard ass. So hard core. Hey, I can actually sorta find things in that shed now! The bikes are still pissed at me.
Well go on over to my website and check out my real flames. Buy a book. Leave a flirty comment. http://www.crazyhorsepainting.com
And be sure to check out our blog http://www.femmefatales06.blogspot.com. We got some new stuff. New pics, new rants. And people are actually reading it! Leave a comment even.

JANKLOW MAY GET LAW LICENSE BACK–Former U.S. Rep. and Gov. Bill Janklow’s law license will be reinstated on Feb. 15, the South Dakota Supreme Court ruled Thursday.
Janklow, a former four-term governor who resigned from Congress in the wake of a deadly traffic accident, was automatically suspended as a lawyer.
A jury found him guilty in December 2003 of second-degree manslaughter for killing Randy Scott of Hardwick, Minn.; Scott was on a motorcycle that smashed into the side of a car Janklow drove past a Moody County stop sign in August 2003.
The Republican politician spent 100 days in jail, was put on probation and cannot drive for three years.
The court’s decision agrees with a recommendation by the State Bar’s Disciplinary Board.
Circuit Judge Rodney Steele, who sentenced Janklow after his manslaughter trial, had recommended that Janklow’s law license not be returned until his probation is finished in January of 2007.

HARLEY’S 10 COMMANDMENTS–
I. The one true American- made motorcycle is the Harley Davidson, and thou shalt not put no other motorcycles before it.
II. Thou shalt not bow down and worship nor serve the God of Chrome; for, lo, he is a false god and will not get thy butt home.
III. Honor thy authorized dealer and the motorcycles thy sell, and that thy days may be long and fruitful in the land of Harley.
IV. Remember the weekend, and keep it open. For it is written, five days shalt thou labor, and for two days shalt thou ride thy Harley, drink beer, and have some FUN.
V. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s Harley, nor her manservant, nor her maidservant, nor her ox, nor her cute little butt.
VI. From the throne of thine Harley, thou shalt not stoop to wave at sinners who ride Jap-crap, for Jap-crap is known to be the handiwork of the devil.
VII. Thou shalt not pass by nor turn away from thy brother Harley rider who is in mechanical distress.
VIII. Thou shalt not pose. Verily, I say unto you, it is easier for a poser to pass his gold Visa card through the eye of a needle than to enter into the true fellowship of Harley-Davidson heaven.
IX. When riding thy Harley on the Road of Life, thou shalt not whine nor snivel, and thou shalt not suffer to ride alongside those who do.
X. Park not thy Harley in the darkness of thine garage, that it may collect dust for want of being oft ridden. Ride thy Harley with thy Harley brethren, and rejoice in the spirit of the road .

BIKERNET DEFINITIONS–We’ve all heard about people having guts or balls. But do you really know the difference between them? In an effort to keep you informed, the definition for each is listed below.
GUTS – is arriving home late after a night out with the guys, being assaulted by your old lady with a broom, and having the guts to ask, “Are you still cleaning, or are you flying somewhere?”
BALLS – is coming home late after a night out with the guys, smelling of perfume and beer, lipstick on your collar, slapping your old lady on the ass and having the balls to say, “You’re next.”
I hope this clears up any confusion on the subject.

AMERICAN IRON & ROADBIKE MAGAZINES ARE NEW ASSOCIATE SPONSORS OF THE LA CALENDAR MOTORCYCLE SHOW SPONSORED BY BIKERNET.COM–The Los Angeles Calendar Motorcycle Show sponsored by Bikernet.com, welcomes two of America’s leading streetbike magazines, American Iron and RoadBike, as Associate Magazine Sponsors of the Show beginning this year 2006 under a newly signed 5-year agreement. Published by Tam Communications, American Iron Magazine is one of the biggest selling titles in the American V-Twin market, while RoadBike Magazine is the biggest print magazine in the fast growing Metric cruiser and streetbike market. The Los Angeles Calendar Motorcycle Show is the biggest custom and performance streetbike show in America, and this new partnership brings together these respective market leaders to continue to grow and expand, both for the benefit of the motorcycle industry involved with both, and for their fan base of readers and attendees.
Buzz Kanter, Publisher of Tam Communications said “We are excited to have American Iron & RoadBike become involved as multi-year Associate Sponsor and Partner in the LA Calendar Motorcycle Show, one of America’s premier street motorcycle events. And certainly the most recognized and popular streetbike event on the West Coast. It will help to give our magazines a closer tie-in to our readers and advertisers located there, add more balanced coverage of West Coast bikes, builders and product companies. And it will help our continued growth as America’s favorite American V-twin and Metric Street Bike magazines. We will have special American Iron and Road Bike Readers Trophies to award in the Bike Contest, and Road Bike magazine will be title sponsor of the new RoadBike Metric Custom Class to help promote the biggest growing motorcycle segment in America.”
Jim Gianatsis of Gianatsis Design Associates, producers of the LA Calendar Motorcycle Show, as well as the popular FastDates.com Calendars and Website, had this to say about the new partnership, “I am really excited to have both American Iron and RoadBike Magazines join us to share with us their readership, and to help us expand the audience and market base of our Calendar Motorcycle ShowThe 15th annual Los Angeles Calendar Motorcycle Show Weekend takes place July 15-16th 2006 at the Queen Mary Event Park in Long Beach / Los Angeles, as it continues its extraordinary growth and success having become the biggest Custom and Performance Streetbike Show in America (and possibly the World) focused on the custom, cruiser and high performance sport / streetbike markets.
Spectator attendance reaches close to 20,000 hard core motorcycle enthusiasts at the exciting 2-day weekend. Exhibitors include 195 major motorcycle and parts manufacturers, with selected product and apparel venders added into the mix to keep it fun for the entire family. Spectators have a chance to meet top celebrity custom bike builders and attend free Iron & Lace Calendar Bike Builder Seminars, watch the the excitement of the Jardine World Record Horsepower Dyno Shoot Out, see the world’s top custom bikes in the Performance Machine Calendar Show Bike Building Championship featuring the new RoadBike Magazine Metric Class, enjoy the exciting new Metric Midway featuring Japanese Cruisers, European and Japanese Sportbikes.
SAMPLE EPA LETTER-DON’T FORGET TO WRITE– I am writing this letter with regard to the enforcement of new motorcycle emissions laws regarding custom built motorcycles.
I believe in the EPA and it’s purpose, however occasionally I do not understand the methodology employed by the agency.
By the EPA’s own studies motorcycle pollutants are accountable for less than one percent of all mobile source emissions. With this in mind, the EPA has put forth guidelines which are so stringent that it will (through enforcement) virtually eliminate an entire sub-sector of our economy if implemented. That is, the small sized motorcycle builder and hobbyist.
Considering the net pollutants produced by on-highway motorcycles, the net effect of enforcing such a law is negligible at best; perhaps not having any effect at all.
Harley Davidson maintains the largest market share in our category. If these laws go through, the EPA will have direct influence in forming a monopoly out of Harley- Davidson which is in direct conflict with the Sherman Antitrust Act. I cannot find a reason other than of a political nature to implement this law.
I feel that a feasibility study should ensue entailing cost figures to implement versus other category pollutants which have a much more severe impact on our environment. Do we have a comparative analysis to justify these new standards and the cost to implement them, compared to say, pollution credits for large factories, where we are talking in terms of TONS OF EMISSIONS per year for each factory in comparison to what a few custom motorcycles put out.
Also I would like to hear an explanation on the constitutional nature of an environmental agency determining what type and quantity of motorcycle an individual can own. I do not understand how an agency of our Government can enforce a law which has a provision where a husband dies shortly after buying his one “lifetime exempt” motorcycle that his spouse cannot sell it for five years to settle her estate! Considering a custom motorcycle sells for anywhere between $20,000 and $250,000, I would suspect that the proceeds from this might help the bereaved spouse. Furthermore is there a marketplace for this motorcycle anymore considering the strict guidelines associated with it? Thus it creates even more economic hardship.
Americans ride Harley-Davidsons and custom bikes for sport more than transportation. We can relate to the American heritage behind Harleys and the freedom that they represent. This is an icon of American culture not merely a mode of transportation. When a governmental agency steps in to take away a piece of our freedom and liberty for no known positive net effect other than to strip our freedom and cost us more tax payer dollars, we will all lose.
A more direct approach would be welcomed in the custom bike community. For example EPA approved motors. The consumers and industry would gladly floor the cost of a compliant motor standard. If the motors are compliant (and not needing periodic compliance tests (no different than current law)), then I see no need for any further interpretation of the law with regards to any other components on the motorcycle or different registration or ownership guidelines or infringements to ownership.
Very Respectfully
— Joseph Savino,
Engineer and custom motorcycle hobbyist

SCOTT JACOBS PRINT TO BE PART OF MUSEUM RAFFLE– December 2005 – Once again, the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame will benefit from the talent and generosity of famed motorcycle artist Scott Jacobs, who is donating one of his most popular pieces, “Pushing the Limit” for the 2006 raffle.
Andrew Hines, who has just won his second consecutive NHRA Powerade Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship, is the racer portrayed in the painting. “Because of all the recode breaking that Andrew continues to do, Scott thought that “Pushing the Limit” would be a great piece for the Museum,” said Sharon Jacobs.
“Last year Scott donated a print for the Museum raffle,” remarked Museum Director Pepper Massey-Swan. “It was so well received we knew we had to ask him for another print this year. Everyone wants to brag that they have a ‘Scott Jacobs’ print in their home. Our raffle can help make that a reality for a lucky winner.”
The framed print, number 35 of 50, will be signed and authenticated by Scott Jacobs, and signed by racer extraordinaire Andrew Hines.
The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, holds an annual raffle, one of its largest fund raisers. Three prizes are offered on each $10.00 ticket. The 2006 prizes are: a 2006 Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide; Scott Jacob’s signed print “Pushing the Limit”; and a one of a kind commemorative Henry 44-40 rifle. Tickets will be available for purchase on Monday 9 January 2006 on the Museum web site http://www.sturgismuseum.com, by telephone 605.347.2001 or at the Museum.
The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is open year round.

BIKERNET BONNEVILLE OR BUST FOR 2006- – Chop N Grind Racing So. Cal. TeamWe are a small crew here in the High Desert in Southern California. So far we have no sponsors or big cash. Our Bonneville bike project is being done by “The seat of our pants”. We have a small budget, four man crew and big dreams.
Our goal is for the 1350 Class “Altered,Pushrod,Gas”, (APG Class). The record is held by Vance Breeze for the national record at 163.854 mph, set in 1997. We aim to beat it.
We are going “Come Hell or High Water”. Which is common here in the High Desert.
I have not been back to Bonneville Salt Flats since 1976. As part of the Jammer Crew sponsored by Easyriders. Our crew put Dave Campos in the 200 mph club on a water cooled dual engine Harley-Davidson Shovelhead, designed by Bob George. I was proud to be part of that crew.
Larry is a 10 year plus veteran Harley Davidson mechanic. He ran at Bonneville Speed Week 2003 on a Ironhead in the APBG (Altered,Pushrod,Blown,Gas) class.
We both got the bug again, once you get the taste, smell and speed of Bonneville it`s something you never forget.
Jim Leinweber will be supplying our cams and technical support. Jim is a local here in our town. He has been grinding cams and racing since the 1950`s.
Race date is September 3rd – 7th 2006 at the BUB 3rd International Motorcycle Speed Trails at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Our plan is to meet up with Bandit’s Bikernet 5-Ball team and all ride to Bonneville. This will be better than the ride to Sturgis. Everyone is welcome to meet up with us on the road and ride out together. This is going to be a great year in Bonneville especially with the movie “The Worlds Fastest Indian” coming out. We have 8 months to do all this. The clock is ticking.
Any support you can throw our way will be great. All sponsors will be advertised on the “Chop N Grind” Bonneville bike. Plus monthly up-dates will be posted on Bikernet and Emails sent out.
Thanks for Your Support

BIKERNET SHOP PHILOSOPHY, WATCH OUT–When his printer’s type began to grow faint, a man called a local repair shop.
The friendly person who answered the phone said the printer probably only needed to be cleaned. Because the store charged $50 for such cleanings, he advised the caller that he might be better off reading the printer’s manual and trying the job himself.
Pleasantly surprised by his candor, the caller asked, “Does your boss know that you discourage business?”
“Actually it’s my boss’s idea,” the employee replied sheepishly. “He says we usually make more money on repairs if we let people try to fix things themselves first.”

STEALTH YEAR END REPORT–I hope all of you made it through Christmas, and I hope you all had a very good Christmas! We closed STEALTH BIKE WORKS for a couple of days and we are back at it today.
As we get ready to close out 2005, I would like to take a little time to reflect on the past year. For me the big thing was opening STEALTH BIKE WORKS. We have come a long way since May when we opened. It has been up and down like a roller coaster and it has been a great adventure so far.
We have had a lot of help along the way and a lot of support. I would like to thank everyone at Bikernet and all the readers for their encouragement. A special thanks to Mr. Bandit for his advice and for always listening, when I have had to ask him for his advice.
Thanks to the crew at SBW, Max and Chopper John, without you guys a lot of what we do would not be possible. Last but not least, Thanks to “THE MEANEST,” for all you do and all of your encouragement. You always pick us up when we need it the most and when things have been slow and when doubt has started to creep in, you always keep us going in the right direction. Thanks to all of our customers who have supported SBW.
So we look forward to 2006 with anticipation and excitement. We hope to see SBW grow as we approach our one year anniversary. We look forward to new customers as well as continuing to serve our current customers. We have a few things planned for the upcoming year so stay tuned!
We would like to wish everyone at Bikernet headquarters and all the readers a ‘Happy New Year!”
Until next week, RIDE!

We will update Bikernet on a daily basis and bring you event coverage before the event is over. We have no limitations to deliver the finest content on the planet, only financial borders and time constraints. We’ll work around them as best we can, as the year progress, and deliver tech, events, bike builds and fun constantly.
Finally my goals for 2006, as long as the chrome gods support our efforts. We are building four bikes, 1929 Peashooter (maybe Bonneville 2007), 1940 WLD, 45 cu. In. Happy Goddamn New Years,
I mean it. I want the entire world to experience the year of a lifetime. Okay, so it’s ambitious, but what the hell. I think we’ll see Iraq stand on its own. Terrorism gangs will loose their momentum and be treated like the punk thugs they are. I believe we’ll witness new insight into the survival of the planet. New fuel options will avail themselves. People will finally discover that money ain’t everything and we can adjust our lives for freedom and happiness, for our families and children and away from the all-mighty dollar chase.
Closer to home, I believe that our industry will come to a meeting of the minds with the EPA and we’ll be free, once more, to build as many bikes as we like and ride forever. I think it will be a helluva year for our industry, with more TV presence, Biker movies and recognition than ever before.
Okay, okay. I’ll drop the rantings and hit the news. I’ll wrap it up at the end. Let’s Party:
HARLEY-DAVIDSON ANNOUNCES SAFETY RECALL AND RELATED CUSTOMER CARE PLAN– Harley-Davidson Motor Company has issued a voluntary safety recall on 2006 model year Dyna series motorcycles built between June 9 and October 19, 2005. Approximately 13,400 motorcycles are included in the recall. The transmissions in the affected motorcycles have a defect which under certain circumstances may allow them to go into a false neutral position even though the neutral indicator light is illuminated.
As part of its Initial Care Program for 2006 Dyna motorcycles, the Company will provide owners with free pick-up and delivery, if desired. This service will commence and recall kits will be available at dealerships beginning the week of December 12, 2005.
The Company estimates that the costs associated with this voluntary recall will be less than$5.0 million and it will reserve these costs in the fourth quarter of this year. The Company also expects to meet its previously-announced wholesale shipment target for 2005.

BIKERNET CAPTURES LETTERS TO SANTA–Dear Santa, You must be surprised that I’m writing you today, the 26th of December.
Well, I would very much like to clear up certain things that have occurred since the beginning of the month! While filled with illusion I wrote you a letter and I asked for a bicycle, an electric train set, a pair of rollerblades, and a football uniform.
I destroyed my brain studying the whole year! Not only was I the first in my class, but I had the best grades in the whole school. I’m not going to lie to you, Santa, there was no one in my entire neighborhood that behaved better than me. With my parents, my brothers, my friends and with my neighbors, I would go on errands and even help the elderly cross the street.
There was virtually nothing I wouldn’t do for humanity!
YO SANTA,
WHAT BALLS YOU HAVE LEAVING ME A FUCKING YO-YO, A STUPID ASS WHISTLE, AND A PAIR OF SOCKS! WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING, YOU FAT SON OF A BITCH? YOU’VE TAKEN ME FOR A SUCKER THE WHOLE FUCKING YEAR, TO COME OUT WITH SOME SHIT LIKE THIS UNDER THE DAMN TREE.
AS IF YOU HADN’T FUCKED ME ENOUGH, YOU GAVE THAT LITTLE FAGGOT ACROSS THE STREET SO MANY FUCKING TOYS, THAT HE CAN’T EVEN FUCKING WALK INTO HIS DAMN HOUSE!
PLEASE DON’T LET ME SEE YOU TRYING TO FIT YOUR BIG FAT ASS DOWN MY CHIMNEY NEXT YEAR! I’LL FUCK YOU UP! I’LL THROW ROCKS AT THOSE STUPID ASS REINDEERS OF YOURS, AND SCARE THEM THE FUCK AWAY, SO YOU’LL HAVE TO WALK YOUR BIG FAT ASS BACK TO THE NORTHPOLE, JUST LIKE I HAVE TO DO, SINCE YOU DIDN’T GET ME THAT FUCKING BIKE, YOU PUNK BITCH!!
YOU KNOW WHAT SANTA, FUCK YOU!! NEXT YEAR YOU’LL FIND OUT HOW BAD I CAN REALLY FUCKING BE…YOU’VE BEEN SLIPPING LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER FAR TOO LONG! SO WATCH YOUR BACK NEXT YEAR, YOU FAT BITCH! I’LL KILL YOU!
Sincerely, Johnny

MAN WOUND TOO TIGHT– Dr. Art Ting has to be the coolest surgeon in the world. Seven days ago I had a load of operations on both arms. I was worried about a couple on my left one because he had to go through my tattoo, check it out. He went round the outline, so it wouldn’t be screwed up, and he did really small stitches so you won?t be able to see the scar when it heals.

The Life And Times Of Von Dutch
By Bandit |
Pinstriping on cars andmotorcycles was a dead art when 15-yr. old Kenny Howard went to work inGeorge Beerup’s motorcycle shop in the mid-forties. The last automobilestriping on an american car was done by General Motors in 1938. Then, inthe mid-fifties, customizers brought it back in style in mostly radicalform believing they were doing something entirely new! Kenny, the motorcyclemechanic was the man who started this “new” vogue under the name “Von Dutch.”
Dutch’sDad was a well known designer, sign painter and goldleaf man in the SouthLA area known as Maywood. The well known Western Exterminator Logo is anexample of his work that lives on today.
Dutch would occasionally bring a bike home from Beerup’sshop borrow his Dad’s brushes to put pinstripes all over it. When Beerupsaw what dutch had accomplished, he couldn’t believe it, and moved himfrom mechanical work to painting and striping. For the next decade, hebuilt a reputation that he really never wanted.
” I’m a mechanic first.” he used to say, “If I hadmy way I’d be a gunsmith! I like to make things out of metal, because metalis forever. When you paint something, how long does it last? A few years, and then it’s gone!”
For the next several years Dutch painted and pinstripednothing but motorcycles, moving from shop to shop, saturating each area.By the mid-fifties he had done thousands of bikes, but very few cars. Stripingcars started as a joke when he was working at Al Titus’ motorcycle shopin Linwood, California. The whole car striping idea started to ‘snowball’and he was there.
He was approached by a guy known as the Crazy Arab, who thought it could be worked into a full-time occupation. Dutch didn’tbelieve it, but he tried it, and for the next three years he worked atit until it just drove him nuts!
When Dutch quit striping in 1958, he was still ingreat demand. Customizers from all over the country had heard of him, andcars came from as far away from the L.A. area as New York to be “Dutched.”When a car owner came to him, he didn’t tell Dutch what he wanted, he justtold him how much ‘time’ he wanted to purchase. The designs were up toDutch, and many of them were created way down deep in the recesses of hiseccentric imagination. He had hundreds of imitators and followers; ShakeyJake, The Barris Brothers, Tweetie, Slimbo, Big Daddy Ed Roth and manyothers.
Dutch On Money
Despitehis genius and popularity, Dutch never made any money from striping. Moneywas something he detested. In this quote from a 1965 article Dutch explainshis thoughts on money.
“I make a point of staying right at the edge of poverty.I don’t have a pair of pants without a hole in them, and the only pairof boots I have are on my feet. I don’t mess around with unnecessary stuff,so I don’t need much money. I believe it’s meant to be that way. There’sa ‘struggle’ you have to go through, and if you make a lot of money itdoesn’t make the ‘struggle’ go away. It just makes it more complicated. If you keep poor, the struggle is simple. “
Every so often he would double his rate just to weedout the undesirables. So many were demanding his services that he justcouldn’t stand it anymore. It didn’t work! No matter what hecharged, they just kept on coming! He hated the commercial aspects of whathe did. He believed that you couldn’t focus on doing good work if you worriedabout the money, and ‘good work’ was everything to Dutch!
So, after about 10 years of hiding out, Dutch surfacedin Arizona, where he made guns and knives, did some custom paint, bodywork, and pinstriping. He and his wife and kids tried. somewhat, to live likea ‘normal’ family…..in a house…with a bar-b-que….and a station wagon.
The Brucker Years
The domestic life lasted until the mid-seventieswhen Dutch dropped everything, and moved back to California to take overthe job vacated by Big Daddy Roth at “Cars of the Stars.” He wouldbe the general fabricator and custodian of the Bruckers Family’s Collectibles. The Bruckers gave Dutch a house to live in and appointed him work hoursof9 to 5. Much to everyone’s amusement, Dutch started calling himself J.L.Bachs, short for Joe Lunch Box.
When ‘Cars of the Stars’ closed up. Dutch moved to Santa Paula, Californiaalong with the Brucker Collection and lived his remaining years right thereat the warehouse, behind a locked enclosure, mostly running everyone off, especially those wearing any kind of uniform or carrying a clipboard. Healso shot at a guy who said he was from Cleveland! Dutch got to be reallyeccentric-amundo!
It was during these years that he turned out somebeautiful knives, all hand-done and brass-etched. He sold about 100 ofthem for $300 each. Today they would easily fetch $3,000! He also builtsome extraordinary motorcycles and lots of other stuff, like (no kidding)a steam-powered TV set. He also built the “Kenford”….1956 pickup witha ’47 Kenworth cab combo!
Forpinstripers, Von Dutch is the one person most responsible for the existenceof the craft. He’s also responsible for other custom touches we’re allfamiliar with as he was also the creator of the motorized rollerskate andputting VW engines in anything but VW’s. He was an expert gunsmith, knife-maker,and fabricator. To those who knew and understood him (not to many) he wasa Great Philosopher.
The FlyingEyeball
Nodiscussion of Von Dutch would be complete without touching on the subjectof his famous Flying Eyeball logo. What’s the story behind it?
According to Von Dutch, the flying eyeball originatedwith the Macedonian and Egyptian cultures about 5000 years ago. It wasa symbol meaning “the eye in the sky knows all and sees all”, or somethinglike that. Dutch got a hold of this symbol and modified it into the flyin’eyeballwe know of today. He always believed in reincarnation, and the eyeball, somehow, was tied to that. There have been numerous “incarnations” of thisdesign over the years. It still remains an icon of the ’50s and ’60s streetrod crowd. Now ya know!
Dutchlived life hard. His bad habits eventually caught up with him, and he developeda stomach abscess. He didn’t like doctors, but towards the end, the paingot so bad, he finally saw a doctor. By then it was too late. Dutch diedon the 19th. of September, 1992, leaving behind his two daughters, Lisaand Lorna.
On a personal note…. The reason I’m in this businessis solely due to Von Dutch. He ‘spider-webbed’ my ’49 Ford Dashboard in1954 and I haven’t been right since.
I striped my first car ….a 1951 Packard…soonafter, then over the course of the next 15 years, I practiced on the sidewhile working at a “Real’ job. In 1969, I started hanging out withDutch to get my mind ‘Right.” He worked on me pretty good, and here weare today.
I guess the ole’ man is turning over in his grave(actually, his ashes were thrown in the Pacific) now that the computeris here! “Progress”….something he hated.
Thisis a picture of Dutch standing next to a sign we made for him about 10years ago. It says “Thanks, Dutch……If it weren’t for you, we’d allbe punchin’ clocks!” In the center is an engine turned panel signed byall the stripers who showed up at the RatFink meet that year. When we gaveit to him, it was the only time I ever saw him teary-eyed and speechless!
My mailman was just about to quit what he thoughtof as a boring job until these letters started showing up. He’s still onthe job today!
The bus was a Long Beach, California city bus that was given to Dutch by awoman in the early ’60s. for payment of some work he had done for her.He set up living quarters at the rear, the remainder of the vehicle wasa machine shop, including a bluing tank and an old metal lathe coveredwith Dutch’s pinstriping. The floor was covered with cigarette buts, beercans, and metal shavings. VonDutch was at best, a terrible housekeeper.
Back in the slleping quarters was a TV and about150 manuals on all sorts of machinery, motorcycles, and guns. He had aphotographic mind, so all the words in these books, were in his head. Hecould dictate verbatim, paragraph by paragraph, any part on any subjectin these manuals…..and give you the page number, too. I asked him onvewhy he bothered to keep the books, since he had them all memorized wordfor word. He said “I like to look at the pictures!”

BIKERNET ERRORS BIG TIME–Just checked your site to see if the bar I submitted, “The Brick” in Jonesville, Indiana had made it up yet, and I gotta ask, what the fuck are you guys doing? For description you guys are calling it a gay bar. So, again…what the fuck? Not only is that NOT the description I sent, but you’re insulting one of the coolest little hole-in-the-wall joints in Southern Indiana.
This little greasy spoon is a blue collar hang out on the weekend, gravel parking lot, bikes all over the grass kinda spot. Most people who discover it consider themselves lucky to sit down to a few cold ones and one of the best cheeseburgers you’re gonna find anywhere. It then becomes their favorite destination when they’re looking to rack up a few miles on the weekend.
So, I obviously don’t appreciate the description one of the assholes working for you saw fit to include. If it’s a joke, I sure don’t get it.
The Brick’s phone number is 812-522-8636, why don’t you give ’em a call and see if you can do a little better, or take that blasphemy down altogether. Do the right thing, Bandit.

PAGAN CASE OVERTURNED–Stafford County residents Joseph Wayne Eastridge and Joseph Nick Sousa are breathing easier these days. The two men, former members of the Pagans motorcycle gang who spent more than 20 years in jail for a crime they didn’t commit, found out Monday that their legal troubles are behind them. The government has dismissed an appeal that would have reversed their exonerations.
“The truth has finally prevailed,” Eastridge told The Free Lance-Star yesterday afternoon. “Tuesday morning, I just broke down and started crying. It was like my soul was weeping.”
Tomorrow, they will meet with their lawyers to discuss how the government can give them back the years they lost.Channing Phillips, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, did not return phone calls seeking comment yesterday.
In a highly publicized 1976 trial that became known as the Pagans murder case, Eastridge and Sousa were convicted of the first-degree murder of a 26-year-old man, Johnnie Battle in Washington.
The men were sentenced to 20 years to life in the death of Battle, who died after being stabbed numerous times on Nov. 1, 1974. His killing followed an argument at the Godfather Restaurant in Washington.
Eastridge, who is now 59, served 29 years in prison before being released on parole in March. Sousa, 57, served 20 years.
Both men found out on May 26 that U.S. District Judge Rosemary M. Collyer had cleared them by granting a petition for habeas corpus, meaning the constitutional legality of their convictions had been overturned.
Fellow Pagans member Michael Diamen was also convicted, but died in prison of a massive heart attack in December 2002.
Although testimony varied during the 1976 trial, most witnesses agreed that events started with an exchange of words between Battle and his friends and members of the motorcycle group. They said Battle returned to his car and fired a handgun that wounded a Pagan’s member. Battle was then chased down and stabbed 17 times.
Sousa and Eastridge admit they were both with the group when the altercation began, but said they returned to their car before Battle was killed.
Another Pagans member, Stephen C. Jones was sentenced under the District of Columbia’s youthful-offender act and served just a few years in jail. He later admitted to being present during the murder and testified that neither Eastridge, Sousa or Diamen were involved.
Eastridge said he has no hard feelings toward Jones, who could have saved them from jail had he told the truth at the 1976 trial.”It took a long time, but he came forward and told the truth,” he said. “I thank him.”
According to court documents, Collyer found that the evidence in the 1976 trial was flawed.

BIKE CLIENTS VENT FRUSTRATIONS–A dozen angry customers got the chance Friday to personally ask former Mid-West Choppers owner Chip Miyler the two questions that have been on their minds for months: Where are our bikes and where’s our money?
Customers of the now bankrupt motorcycle shop filled a courtroom in the Knox County Courthouse during two bankruptcy hearings for Miyler and his wife, Chrissy.
Nearly 40 people from across the United States and some from Germany and New Zealand have filed complaints against the shop, claiming they were asked to pay large amounts of money shortly before it went bankrupt in October.
Galesburg police said Friday the total amount of the complaints is about $1.2 million.”Where’s the money?” asked Michigan resident Rick Klepek, who said he paid Miyler $33,000 for a custom chopper he never received.
“It’s expensive doing business,” Miyler said after a moment of searching for an answer.
Miyler cited buying parts, salaries for his employees and $80,000 per year for insurance. “That eats it up pretty quick.”Miyler filed for bankruptcy on the business on Oct. 14, while he and his wife filed for personal bankruptcy the next day.The business had $2,315,325 in liabilities and $635,382 in assets, while the couple had $1,633,221 in liabilities and $354,287 in assets, according to bankruptcy filings.
Since the hearings were being taped by a single audio recorder on the table in front of Miyler, complainants were forced to sit directly next to Miyler as they asked their questions, making for several awkward moments with no eye contact.
“I guess if I was a very good business man, I wouldn’t be in bankruptcy court,” Miyler said in response to Klepek’s questions regarding financial record keeping.
Miyler previously said the bankruptcies were caused by hard economic times and a downturn in business, but Klepek disagreed, saying the money for the bikes and parts was paid upfront.
An FBI agent interviewed each customer as they exited the courtroom, trying to determine if Miyler ever intended to finish the motorcycles when he accepted the money. If police find Miyler took the money without plans to finish the motorcycles, he could face federal fraud charges.FBI agents and police have focused heavily on one such case they believe proves fraud more than any other.Virginia resident Tye Himmler said he met with Miyler at the shop on Oct. 5 and gave him a $14,000 check to begin work on a custom chopper.
Himmler said the check was deposited on Oct. 7 and cleared his bank account on Oct. 11, just three days before Miyler filed bankruptcy.
Miyler said he used $10,000 of that money to pay off an existing debt and not to buy parts for Himmler’s bike.Miyler also said he first contacted an attorney about filing bankruptcy on Oct. 8, three days after Himmler said he wrote the check.
While the couple had several different bank accounts, the main focus was on an account at First Bank in Galesburg. Miyler said he was required to submit a monthly statement of financial standing to the bank, but many questioned how a bank would continue to loan him money if he was so far in debt.
FBI agents are likely to investigate the transactions at the bank for any wrongdoing, police said. That investigation also would be handled at the federal level because banks are federally insured.
Miyler said he was making about $2,000 a week during the year before filing bankruptcy, but now he and his wife are living on $756 a week unemployment.”We live about as meek as you can get it,” Miyler said, because the two now drive two used cars and have no cable television.
But Mark Adamczak of Centralia didn’t shed any tears for the Miylers.Adamczak said he gave Miyler a 2001 Dodge truck, a 1998 Harley-Davidson and $21,900 in cash for a chopper that was never built.
“All I have is a bike payment of $700 (per month) for nothing,” he said. While the personal bankruptcy hearing was concluded Friday, the hearing for the business was stopped and will be scheduled for another date because so many people wanted to make a statement.
Peoria attorney Sumner Bourne represents 11 people, including those out of the country, and didn’t have enough time during the hour-long hearing to present his information.

HIGH DESERT TOY RUN FOR CHILDREN OF PRISONERS– Well our first toy run came off with out a hitch. We met at Hi Desert Performance, where the secret Bonneville bike is being built. Did our blast thru town. Then went to an old church and drop off our gifts to the kids. They did a short play and sang Christmas songs. They were all very grateful. It was a great turn out, more than Larry and I thought.
Then off to “The HandleBars” a local drinking hole down it the lower desert where it was a bit warmer.
Merry Christmas To All

HARDBIKES ANNOUNCES MOVE TO LONG TERM PRODUCTION FACILITY–MASURY, OHIO – December 17, 2005 — Hardbikes is pleased to announce their plans to move into a 35,000 square foot, long term facility in Hermitage, PA as of December 16, 2005. Hardbikes currently occupies an Innovation Center in Masury, Ohio where prototypes and assembly procedures have been developed. The move to Pennsylvania keeps Hardbikes growing and provides a long term home that can be expanded as needed.
Orders are inline with controlled growth plans. Hardbikes’ seasoned management team and recent successful milestones were the icing that sold the state of Pennsylvania.
“Pennsylvania’s business friendly policy and Penn Ventures’ investment into Hardbikes was a big confidence builder for the entire team and Hardbikes’ supply chain. By adding venture capital to the existing investors in Hardbikes we now have the mechanics to fuel our growth. The new investors and new plant is ahead of plan and has created some short term operational pains but we now have a good “HARD” foundation,” says Gene Kirila, president of Hardbikes.
The new facility is located at 2600 Kirila Drive, Hermitage PA and has 30,000 square feet of production space and 5,000 square feet of office space. The property has expansion capability to satisfy the needs of Hardbikes way into the future. It will house their innovation center and production facility under one roof. The increased space will also accommodate a dyno room testing lab, fully equipped prototyping facility as well as an increased inventory storage area to ensure the right parts are there at the right time. Hardbikes will be ready to start taking orders for their new custom bikes built to customer specifications after the first of the year. Hardbikes is looking to expand its dealers because of the new capacities.
Hardbikes’ customers design the custom bike of their dreams by using the online web-based Configurator that resides at www.hardbikes.com. Hardbikes’ design wizard helps the customer customize by leveraging the Hardbikes network of dealer and factory support expertise by being connected to the intelligent web-centric system. Customers are encouraged to experiment with their designs, budgets and unique look all from the privacy and comfort of their desktop. Then their designs are finalized by the Hardbikes network of dealers, designers, suppliers and quality engineers that provide years and years of proven knowledge.
Once customers design the bike of their dreams, Hardbikes builds motorcycles that fit each customer perfectly. Its patent-pending Hardrider system ensures each customer gets a bike built to their exact specifications. All Hardbikes dealers will have a Hardbikes Design Center on their showroom floor featuring a computer-aided design station, a Chopper fitment fixture, and a Pro-Street fitment fixture.
Hardbikes is committed to building a manufacturing process and selling system that will support the unique culture of the American V-Twin rider. The firm’s tagline is “Work hard, play harder.”

THAT’S A CHRISTMAS WRAPPING–Yesterday Steel Dreams sent a crew out to interview me and discuss our Bikernet Dreams for 2006. Shows are strange. Everything must be kept short and to the point. No long-winded stories allowed. I wanted to discuss our Bonneville efforts more, but supposedly they’ll be back for more updates as the bikes are built. Bikernet will be working hand in hand with Steel Dreams this year.
We are working with Custom Chrome, Accurate Engineering and Baker Transmission on the first Panhead Sport Bike designed by John Reed and myself for the Sturgis Run then speed runs at Bonneville during Bubs Salt Flats week. We’re also working on a 45 WLD bobber Bonneville racer with Lee Clemens and the Departure Bike Works crew. There’s also a V-Rod with Custom Performance in Phoenix and our own 1929 Peashooter, 500 cc single hanging fire for the next move. We’ll bring you progress reports.
I sincerely hope that every Bikernet reader has a helluva Christmas. Christmas means so many things to each of us. But from my heart and the hearts of our staff, Nyla, Karley, The Tronolone Brothers, Jason, John Gilbert, John Van (the kid downstairs), Rogue and the rest of the crew we hope your Christmas is fulla love, bling, giving, sharing and good times.
Ride Forever,
