The Milwaukee Motor Company, with fans around the globe, turns 120 years old. There has been quite a few announcements regarding the homecoming as well as a public park on land they own. Most awaited however, was their announcement for model year 2023. Fans and dealerships waiting patiently for the model release would surely be impressed if not dancing in the streets. Some limited edition collectibles are of course for ‘collectors’, but there is plenty for us common two-wheel monkeys to run with. Breakout makes a comeback and Road Glide is now available as a Trike too. There is a Nightster Special and a re-imagined Freewheeler. Of course, these can’t be all that’s offered. What’s happening with the ADV Pan America and the Electric LiveWire? So much more awaited by one and all, especially after the boss announced that H-D will be all-electric in the near future. One can also expect lot of activities at the H-D Museum and there will surely be ‘limited-edition’ apparel, tee-shirt tie-ins and new jackets and boots….

Celebrating 120 years of the most desired motorcycle brand

The Milwaukee Motor Company, with fans around the globe, turns 120 years old. There has been quite a few announcements regarding the homecoming as well as a public park on land they own. Most awaited however, was their announcement for model year 2023. They kept it under wraps through all the crowd & circus at EICMA, the biggest gathering of motorcycle brands.

This article is part informative and part editorial. Kind of like a motorcycle with aftermarket parts and a bitchy pillion onboard. Don’t get me wrong, I love the brand; but seriously, who wants to be a backseat driver of this company? It seems everyone except the company executives seem to know how to ‘run’ this motor company.

There are seven limited edition models that future auction action happy bikers can invest upon; namely:
    • Ultra Limited Anniversary
    • Tri Glide Ultra Anniversary
    • Street Glide Special Anniversary (Black Trim)
    • Road Glide Special Anniversary (Black Trim)
    • Fat Boy 114 Anniversary
    • Heritage Classic 114 Anniversary (Chrome Trim)
    • CVO Road Glide Limited

These commemorative bikes will be made worthwhile with special paint and styling. Only 1500 of the most exclusive (read ‘expensive’) CVO will be made for the whole world.

All these models have been the most popular cruisers and tourers from Harley-Davidson.

The first anniversary celebration by Harley-Davidson was when it turned 50. Those bikes got a special badge and color. Anniversaries meant something and it was valuable and memorable. Since 1980s, the Motorcycle Company realized their fans could be milked to death and that these paying customers will keep buying their motorcycle despite the machines being non-competitive in multiple factors including price and performance!

So then, Harley-Davidson started celebrating ‘Anniversaries’ every five years. Yup, just like they make you buy a greeting card every month at the local grocery store, the big original V-Twin started making expensive (not really ‘exclusive’ now are they?) collectible anniversary limited edition models.

This year however, they and we realize it’s the big 120. Especially because the revived British legend Royal Enfield, a tiny brand by comparison, managed to sell a whole lot of expensive 120 anniversary models. Enfield which became the first production motorcycle company in the world in 1901 may not be pure British but their promise of ‘pure motorcycling’ and large expenditure on American racing and custom build events is noticeable in the media. Enfields have been in production non-stop, though the factory and ownership shifted from England to India. They started a second assembly factory in South America and fast gaining ‘traction’, treading on many turfs that heavy Harley-Davidson is vacating by focusing on big bikes instead of customer-friendly-favorite Sportster.

The much mentioned Harley-Davidson CEO Jochen Zeitz treated Harley-Davidson like a ‘fashion brand’, like Puma, like ‘Deus Ex Machina’ (read that story on Bikernet by clicking here). He banished small markets and small engines. Despite the success of H-D 750cc engine in Asia and South America, he wanted to consolidate on core business, the big spenders. Unfortunately, the every American’s motorcycle was being peddled to owners of German and Italian luxury cars.

Now this same dude, having happily delivered whatever was promised to shareholders and investors on Wall Street, is making tiny 353cc engine motorcycle which are not even designed by Harley-Davidson. These are Benelli motorcycle brand engines owned by Qianjiang Motorcycles of China. These Chinese design engines will now carry the badge of Harley-Davidson in the 120th year of this historic, most-favored motorcycle brand in the world. The 353cc engine in the Harley-Davidson X350 is shared with other Benelli models. The formerly Italian brand Benelli is now a Chinese international motorcycle brand built in China.

On plus side, Americans get to buy the Breakout model after 2018, which was always available to Europeans for all these years. It gets a five gallon tank, so customers get to enjoy the Milwaukee-Eight 117 ci V-Twin a lot more than the previous smaller tank would allow.

Thanks to the 120 years of progress, electronic traction control comes as a standard for the Fat Boy, Fat Bob, Breakout, and Low Rider S. It was already standard feature on the Low Rider ST and Heritage Classic models. It’s the first time Breakout, Low Rider S, and Low Rider ST will get an option of traction control. Breakout will also get ‘Baja Orange’ color option, first seen on the Pan America. Is that 5-Ball orange?

For the first time, Road Glide is available as a ‘Trike’, though only in select markets; namely US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Even Europe doesn’t get this reliable comfy puppy. It’s weird because there are already plenty of Road Glide trikes seen on the road – albeit built by some custom builder or the customer himself. Harley-Davidson saw the light shining like freshly mint money and realized the potential of this model as a factory-made trike.

The H-D Road Glide Trike has 18-inch rear wheels, Milwaukee-Eight 114ci engine, fancy infotainment system, Daymaker LED headlights, bobtail read fender, et al.

There is more money than meets the eye. It seems, the H-D research team found that there are young couples in their 20s and 30s desiring a comfortable performance driven trike. So its not just for old people who can’t push or pick up a Road Glide!!! We have seen those photos of young Hollywood folks on Can-Am Spyders. Well, imagine a couple choosing to experience the engaging of all five senses instead of a sitting ‘indoors’ in a van or RV? Wouldn’t this Road Glide Trike be a dream come true? Factory-fitted, certified, bonafide, under warranty, and guess what, a collectible as well!

The engineers at Harley-Davidson emphasized that people don’t realize how much safety and handling is measured and ‘incorporated’ in their trikes. For example, an extended rake angle makes it harder to tip over. So be careful customizing your brand new models. Use authorized parts and accessories from H-D or the warranty goes far away.

The Nightster Special still has the Revolution Max 975T engine but gets a handlebar riser to compete against Indian Rogue. It also gets a passenger seat. The design team for this one was young and dug into the AMF years of Harley-Davidson Sportster. The ‘special’ tank on the Nightster Special mimicks the logo of that era. Featured in this photo, the Industrial Yellow color makes it look very retro and desirable. You think?

The Freewheeler Trike front end, headlamp nacelle, tank console, hand and foot controls, engine and exhaust all get blacked out. The very opposite direction from the chrome finish this trike had last year. It also gets 18-inch rear-wheels. There are pinstripes with the stylized logo. The effort propels it toward the ‘Tourer’ range of models.

Softails will be available in the maximum among the limited edition anniversary models. Total of 3,000 Fat Boy units and 1,700 Heritage Classic units. There will be 1,600 units each of the Street Glide Special and Road Glide Special. The Ultra will have 1,300 units out and Tri Glide Ultra trikes will be limited to 1,100 units. CVO Road Glide will be limited to 1,500 units only.

Pricing and availability in various markets will be announced soon.

Of course, these can’t be all that’s offered. What’s happening with the ADV Pan America and the Electric LiveWire? So much more awaited by one and all, especially after the boss announced that H-D will be all-electric in the near future. One can also expect lot of activities at the H-D Museum and for those mortals who can’t buy one or more motorcycles, there will surely be ‘limited-edition’ apparel, tee-shirt tie-ins and new jackets and boots….

The big 120th birthday party itself is slated for July 2023,  full of entertainment, festivities, and all things Harley-Davidson. So stay tuned and start counting your cash for the countdown.

I love your new shop. Wish I was there to help you with all those projects but I seem to have stumbled into a good life here in Tennessee. I’ll sure try to make Sturgis next year if my health holds out. So far so good. I am doing stuff people half my age can’t do. You are too. We are amazing lol.

Here is what I have so far on the Backyard bike build.

My young friend Marshall crashed his Shovelhead in a Tennessee ditch. He bounced off a tree and nearly died. He got a helicopter ride out of it. He was damaged worse than the bike.

Monster Energy and Yamaha Racing Strengthen Global Partnership

Monster Energy and Yamaha Racing celebrate partnership with a new global race team livery for the 2023 MotoGP, AMA Supercross and Motocross, and MXGP seasons

MARIETTA, Ga. – January 20, 2023 – Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (YMUS) is pleased to announce a renewal with Monster Energy, and a strengthened global partnership celebrated with a new Monster Energy Yamaha race team livery for 2023. Breaking cover today at a global race team celebration in San Diego, California, the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP and MX2 team’s YZ race machines will sport the same exciting new look as the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team’s YZR-M1’s.

Ahead of tomorrow’s San Diego Supercross, the worlds of Supercross, MotoGP, and MXGP were brought together for the unveiling of the YZs. Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac and Dylan Ferrandis were on hand to reveal the new look of their YZ450Fs for the 2023 Monster Energy AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross seasons, which are part of the inaugural SuperMotocross World Championship series. MXGP rider Jeremy Seewer was there for the presentation of his Monster Energy Yamaha Factory YZ450FM, which he will race for top honors in the 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship. 2021 MotoGP World Champion Fabio Quartararo also attended to share his YZR-M1, which was revealed earlier this week at the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team’s livery launch in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Ready for battle, the new look features camouflage and blends Yamaha and Monster Energy’s colors with the addition of gray for a refreshed, younger look. Designed by renowned Italian designer Aldo Drudi, the new global livery symbolizes Monster Energy and Yamaha’s combined passion for motorsports and a strong relationship between the brands. Together, Monster Energy and Yamaha Racing have enjoyed multiple championships and race wins at the highest levels of the sport.

Monster Energy and YMUS have a history of success in the AMA Supercross and Motocross Championships, with 39 premier class victories, including three 450 class titles in the past two years and topping the manufacturers’ points standings in the 450MX Pro Motocross Championship for two years running. In the 250 class, the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team has amassed an impressive eight titles, four 250MX Pro Motocross Manufacturer Championships, and 79 victories. More recently, defending 450SX Champion Tomac got off to a flying start, taking a thrilling victory aboard the all-new YZ450F at the opening round in Anaheim, California.

I’d like to thank Monster Energy for their continued support and look forward to more race wins and championships in the future!”

Paolo Pavesio – Marketing & Motorsport Director, Yamaha Motor Europe N.V.

I would like to thank Monster Energy for their continued trust in Yamaha, and I look forward to making our partnership even more successful in the future.”

Vance & Hines Launches New Limited Production Handmade Stainless Steel Air Intake

Vance & Hines Launches New Limited Production Handmade 90-Degree Stainless Steel Air Intake, Inspired by Popularity of Custom, Performance Baggers

Santa Fe Springs CA – January 19, 2023 – Vance & Hines today announced the VO2 Falcon Stainless, a limited production, hand-welded, 90-degree stainless steel air intake, inspired by the handmade exhaust systems that are common on the top professional and street race bikes. The intake fits all Milwaukee 8-powered Harley-Davidson motorcycles from 117ci motors down to 107ci, except those with fairing lowers.

The VO2 Falcon Stainless is manufactured by Vance & Hines welders in Santa Fe Springs using high grade, 304 stainless steel tube and is hand TIG welded from pie-cut segments. The process yields a striking array of color and pairs perfectly with a stainless steel 2-1 exhaust system, like the Vance & Hines Hi-Output RR. The system includes a precision CNC-machined, billet aluminum winged mounting plate and an integrated breather assembly. It features the same slant-nosed, high volume oil-media air filter that is used across the VO2 Falcon Lineup.

“High performance baggers, inspired by King of the Baggers and BRL, are the hottest Harley customizing trend around the world,” said Mike Kennedy, president of Vance & Hines. ” This new limited-production product not only delivers great air flow, but is the finishing touch to a great looking, go-fast bagger.”

Refer: www.vanceandhines.com

The VO2 Falcon Stainless retails for $749.99 and will be available in February 2023.

Bill’s New Shop

I love your new shop. Wish I was there to help you with all those projects but I seem to have stumbled into a good life here in Tennessee. I’ll sure try to make Sturgis next year if my health holds out. So far so good. I am doing stuff people half my age can’t do. You are too. We are amazing lol.

Here is what I have so far on the Backyard bike build.

My young friend Marshall crashed his Shovelhead in a Tennessee ditch. He bounced off a tree and nearly died. He got a helicopter ride out of it. He was damaged worse than the bike.

These Tennessee backroads are beautiful and fun to ride but they are full of curves and hills and usually a little wet. He learned that trying to ride fast on them after a few drinks is not recommended.

The bike is basically a 1981 FXWG. It has an S&S 93-inch motor. Marshall wants so bad to be an old school biker. He worked and saved for four years to buy this thing. He never owned a car. We met because he brought the bike to the shop, where I was working part time. It was a mess and he couldn’t keep it running. After spending too much money at the shop, I took pity on him and started working on it at my house.

His wreck was recent, but I have been keeping it running for the past year. He bought my ‘76 Grand Prix, when we first met. He has since blown up the motor and transmission and had a minor accident with the car. It is back on the road again with a new 455 motor and a front clip off a 74 Grand Prix. The boy doesn’t have any natural mechanical ability. He tries real hard though. Maybe with time he will get better.

As you can see from the photos, I really am doing all this outside.

He got a settlement from his insurance because he was smart enough to put a mediator policy on with his liability insurance. He wanted a Springer front end as well as many other changes to his bike. I have been working on it a little at a time for the last three months. I bought a 2-inch over Springer from V-Twin. It looks much like the original style Springers.

I am also rebuilding the ‘51 Cadillac engine that was in a hearse I recently sold. I realized it was time I got out of the weather. I have a car port over my ‘34 Ford, so I thought I would get another one and box it in and have a little garage. I went shopping and ended up with a 28×12 portable garage. Now I am in debt, but it sure is nice.

When I get done with his bike, I can build my Caddy motor on my bike trailer inside the garage. Right now, it is in the machine shop getting bored.

So now, I’ve got the Shovelhead inside high and dry. Sure beats covering it with a tarp.

This S&S motor is the high compression model. It tore up two starters. Marshall weighs over 200 and he can’t kick it. So, I pulled the heads and installed compression releases between the pushrods.

I took a 1/16 bit and drilled edge wise through the fins where I wanted to break them out of the way. I know professionals do this with a jig and a milling tool, but I used what I had. I got compression releases from total performance on eBay. They use 10mm threads. I bought a tap and drilled a 5/16 hole right into the combustion chamber. I then tapped it and installed them with red lock tight. They work great and it cranks like crazy now.

I have it all back together now and have most everything he wanted done, done. I cleaned up the wiring and am installing a cat’s eye dash kit. I still have to do the paint on his tanks. I’m learning to shoot metaflake and do some airbrush stuff now. All I need is a few warm sunny days.

I fired it today. The compression releases work great

The red Harley is a ‘98 Dyna that I bought in pieces for 800 dollars. It is my main bike. I ride it everywhere.

REPARATIONS BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for January 19, 2023

Hey,

We hear about reparations for wrong doings. Folks who are forcing bad stuff on in our society need to think about the truth. It has consequences. Say when Scientific Transparency returns and all the businesses who were impacted by imaginary rules come forward with damages.

Think about that for a minute. Think about the parents who stepped up because the city of San Francisco allowed their sons or daughters to overdose and kill themselves. Or what about our open borders and fentanyl pouring onto our streets to destroy kids’ lives. There’s going to be a bunch of large paychecks coming.

Let’s hit the news. There’s actually a bunch of solid good stuff happening.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum.

Wyoming wants to phase out sales of new EVs by 2035

It’s a symbolic gesture aimed at states like California.

While jurisdictions like California and New York move toward banning the sale of new gasoline-powered cars, one US state wants to go in the opposite direction. Wyoming’s legislature is considering a resolution that calls for a phaseout of new electric vehicle sales by 2035. Introduced on Friday, Senate Joint Resolution 4 has support from members of the state’s House of Representatives and Senate.

In the proposed resolution, a group of lawmakers led by Senator Jim Anderson says Wyoming’s “proud and valued” oil and gas industry has created “countless” jobs and contributed revenue to the state’s coffers. They add that a lack of charging infrastructure within Wyoming would make the widespread use of EVs “impracticable” and that the state would need to build “massive amounts of new power generation” to “sustain the misadventure of electric vehicles.”

SJ4 calls for residents and businesses to limit the sale and purchase of EVs voluntarily, with the goal of phasing them out entirely by 2035. If passed, the resolution would be entirely symbolic. In fact, it’s more about sending a message to EV advocates than banning the vehicles altogether. To that point, the final section of SJ4 calls for Wyoming’s Secretary of State to send President Biden and California Governor Gavin Newsom copies of the resolution.

“One might even say tongue-in-cheek, but obviously it’s a very serious issue that deserves some public discussion,” Senator Boner, one of the bill’s co-sponsors, told the Cowboy State Daily. “I’m interested in making sure that the solutions that some folks want to the so-called climate crisis are actually practical in real life. I just don’t appreciate when other states try to force technology that isn’t ready.”

While the resolution has the markings of a political stunt, it does allude to genuine economic anxiety. Wyoming produced 85.43 million barrels of oil in 2021, making it the country’s eighth-largest crude oil producer that year. The state’s Carbon County is also home to one of the largest wind farms in the US. Something that’s not talked about enough when it comes to climate change is how the world transitions to a zero-emissions economy in an equitable way.

People in many rural US states are rightfully mistrustful of so-called green technologies because they haven’t benefited from more recent technological shifts as much as their urban counterparts. Take the advent of the internet, for instance. In 2018, Microsoft found that many rural communities don’t have access to broadband internet. That’s something that has contributed to diminishing economic opportunities in those places.

NEWS FROM WHEELS THROUGH TIME MUSEUM

If you’ve been keeping up with our social media, you know that we’ve been keeping our hands covered in dirty layers of history all winter long in our shop. The two big projects on the bench right now are both Harley-Davidson Knuckleheads, a 41 and 39. Our plan for these two machines has them ending in very different places, the 41 will be restored, while the 39 will be left with its lovely patina intact.

With an engine in the chassis of the ‘39, it is time for finishing details to move forward. In our most recent YouTube video, Matt repaired holes in the gas tank and finally unboxed the ultra-rare ‘39-only rhino grain saddlebags. On the ‘41 project, Matt and the crew spent many hours in the shop prepping for paint and plating, and now parts are starting to come back. Be sure to follow along to see more updates on these stunning machines!

QUICK, OPEN THE BANDIT’S CANTINA BAD JOKE LIBRARY— ART COLLECTOR

A New York attorney representing a wealthy art collector called and asked to speak to his client.

“Saul, I have some good news and I have some bad news.”

The art collector replied, “You know, I’ve had an awful day, Jack, so let’s hear the good news first.”

The lawyer said, “Well, I met with your wife today, and she informed me that she has invested only $5,000 in two very nice pictures that she thinks will bring somewhere between $15 and $20 million.. and I think she could be right.”

Saul replied enthusiastically, “Holy Moses! Well done! My wife is a brilliant businesswoman, isn’t she? You’ve just made my day. Now, I know I can handle the bad news. What is it?”

The lawyer replied, “The pictures are of you and your secretary.”

HAL ROBINSON IS ALIVE

I sent you a message and a pic of the original Chopper Power by Hal that I put on Instagram. It’s being used like crazy (patches and shirts) especially by a company in France along with other works of Hals. Thought you might be interested.

I sent them a message and raked them over the coals. I just said they should know the name of the artist that they bootlegged and that there are certain rules, and I named the works they have up that Hal did.

They have the Easyrider patch, wings, and MM on the chopper. Haven’t heard back and don’t expect to. Some people live up to their bootlegging. I like it of course when people are honest and maybe offer to send me some of the merchandise and do some art work for me like Simone Erl. He has some class.

That’s show biz I guess.

NEWS DIRECTLY FROM THE HALLS OF DOOM

Calls to ban gas stoves are anti-science, anti-freedom, and anti-energy

Instead of informing us with accurate science about gas stoves so we can make better decisions, anti-fossil fuel activists are distorting science.

Early 2023 has featured a carefully orchestrated campaign in which:

1. A paper whose lead author is an anti-fossil-fuel activist claims that gas stoves cause 12.7% of child asthma.

2. The Federal government and NY proposed bans on new gas stoves.

We should reject this campaign. The campaign against gas stoves should be rejected for 3 reasons:

1. Families have the right incorporate any real science about gas stoves as they judge best

2. The 12.7% claim is a distortion of science

3. The anti-gas movement is a threat to our grid and therefore our health

Whether and how to use a gas or electric stove should be determined by individuals and families based on what they judge best. For example, many will rationally choose to use a cheaper, more functional gas stove with good ventilation as the best option.

There are many decisions that families make that affect kids’ health far more than a gas vs. electric stove: what kinds of food kids eat, how much exercise they get, and how much money parents allocate to health vs. other expenses.

NEW S&S – GNX 4.5” Slip-on Mufflers NOW available for Twin Cam Touring Bikes

They launched the GNX’s last year for the M8 touring bikes and it looks like the Twin Cam guys demanded them as well. S&S is finally adding TC fitment to the rowdy GNX slip-on line.

S&S says the GNX slip-ons are the cure for plugged up pipes and are designed specifically to let your engine roar the true sounds of freedom. Quite the statement; good thing they back it up with a stainless-steel louvered baffle that is specifically tuned for big flow and even bigger sound.

Much like all of the S&S exhaust line, the GNX slip-ons also include a dB Reducer that lets you tune sound and performance. All this freedom and they still managed to come in at $569.95 per pair in black and $639.95 in gleaming chrome.

Check out the GNX Slip-on on their site or hit up your local dealer for more info. https://www.sscycle.com/letfreedomfly

We originally created the GNX as mid price, high volume (loud!) slip-on for the M8, but the Twin Cam guys (they’re loud , too!) demanded their own version, so here we are. ~ DZ

HUCK CYCLES– Releases New Electric Motorbike

Huck Cycles, located in Cornelius, NC, has announced the latest offering in their line of electric motorbikes, the Stinger, a more rugged, powerful, and versatile two-wheeler. Two versions of this new all-electric model will be made available: a standard version, as well as a more performance-oriented “Performance Upgrade” edition as its name suggests. Both variants come with dual-piston disc brakes accompanied by 17-inch wheels with either street, dual sport or dirt tires.

On the performance side, both versions have an electric hub motor integrated into the rear wheel which offers 3 kilowatts of nominal power output. The difference between the two versions is in the form of peak output, with the standard version producing 6 kilowatts, and the Performance Upgrade version cranking out an impressive 8.5 kilowatts. Dual 60V 50ah batteries are standard and a pair of 72V 50ah batteries are available as optional equipment. Riding conservatively will yield about 80 miles of range.

The Stinger is perfect for in-town commutes, gated communities and camp sites. Overlanders and campers can roll the bikes in the back of a toy hauler or on a hitch rack. Once at the campground the Stinger gives you silent power for riding into town for dinner or ripping up the trails.

MRF ROAD SHOW 2023–

The start of a new year means many state motorcyclist rights organizations are holding their annual meetings. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) is always honored to be invited to attend and present at these events across the country. This weekend representatives from the MRF were in Michigan and Kentucky discussing the MRF’s 2022 accomplishments in Washington, D.C. and our goals for 2023.

These meetings are a great opportunity to share with riders around the country some of the things we are working on. We discussed our victories on issues like motorcyclist profiling and autonomous vehicles as well as work we have ahead of us on things like the Motorcyclist Advisory Council. While many of the attendees at these events are MRF members some are not, so educating bikers about the MRF is an important part of these presentations.

In Lansing, Michigan the ABATE of Michigan event was joined by Congressman Tim Walberg. Congressman Walberg is the Co-Chair of the House Motorcycle Caucus, the 2017 MRF Legislative Champion of the Year and a longtime Michigan motorcyclist.

The KMA/KBA’s Freedom Fighter’s Forum in Bowling Green, Kentucky was attended by Congressman Brett Guthrie. Congressman Guthrie is a member of the powerful Energy and commerce Committee which has jurisdiction of important government agencies to motorcyclists like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In addition to Congressman Guthrie state officials were in attendance as well. The Kentucky Secretary of State, Attorney General, Auditor and half a dozen candidates for governor all made appearances. What an impressive collection of elected officials from the Bluegrass State!

In the coming weeks look for more alerts and photos of the “2023 MRF Road Show.” If we’re in your state make sure to come up and say hi, we love meeting MRF members!

NEW FROM THE NAMZ HEADQUARTERS

If you want to add simple fuel injection to a Twin Cam using a TBW throttle body or you have a race ready M8 and want to ditch the CAN/Bus BCM, we got you connected!

(N-EFI-01 shown) The guru’s here at NAMZ have really made it easy for you to customize your ride. If you want to bring your old custom into today’s technology, we have the go-fast products for you. In 2022 we released the NAMZ Stand Alone Twin Cam EFI harness kit which includes on in-house designed and manufactured complete EFI harness, our proprietary twist grip sensor and ECM made exclusively for us by Thundermax.

If you have a Twin Cam that you want to wake up or you’re building a custom, this is the prefect kit. The harness is virtually plug-n-play as it only has (4) wires that you need to connect once installed, (1) for run/stop switch, (1) for fuel pump, (1) for 12+ battery power and (1) for 12- ground. All of the connectors are installed and wire lengths are predetermined for an easy installation.

Our twist grip functions just like the factory version though our first release didn’t cancel cruise control but has since been corrected. (release dates will be February 2023) Lastly, the ECM is a one connector, plug-n-play module that is easily tunable using Thundermax’s proprietary software and included cable.

This EFI kit comes with the following:

  • Wiring Harness
  • Twist Grip Assembly
  • ECM:
  • Long-length O2 sensors
  • Computer programming cable
  • Thundermax ECM instructions

Our N-EFI-01 kit is really easy to install and works flawlessly! If racing is more your speed, we also offer an M8 version of this kit which also eliminates the need for Harley’s troublesome CAN/Bus and BCM system found on ALL 2014-Up big twin motorcycles.

NAMZ is proud to be able to sponsor individual racers and race teams for the BRL or King of the Baggers racing series as well! Our racing program is simple and it’s easy to get signed up, send an email to marketing@namzccp.com and someone will reach out to you right away!

These EFI kits are ONLY available direct or from select dealers worldwide.

(The pictures below show our 1987 FXRS that was made into a Twin Cam FXRT using a 2009 motor and transmission, our NAMZ fuel injection kit, part # N-EFI-01 kit and our complete bike wiring harness, part # NCBH-01-B)

NMA UPDATE–By Stewart W. Price, President of the National Motorists Association

At our strategy conference in October at the NMA home office in Waunakee, we asked ourselves a key question:

In what ways does the NMA need to change to meet future challenges and grow?

The resounding response from our Board of Directors: “We absolutely must increase awareness of the NMA.”

The NMA believes that if we are going to increase our influence in the world of irrational transportation legislation and onerous traffic enforcement, we need more clout, more credibility, and just more gumption. If we aspire to become a household name for drivers’ rights, the most respected source for engineering-based research, or the go-to opinion leaders for oppositional views, we need more ammunition.

That’s where communication comes in.

Up to this point, the National Motorists Association has spent considerable time producing stories, articles, and blogs mainly intended to keep you, our valued members, informed of the issues that rule the day. This is important and we will continue to do so.

What we are lacking, however, is more targeted “market-facing” communications that can drive home our point of view, attract new members, and compel others to join in the fight.

I’m pleased to announce that the NMA Board of Directors has authorized me to hire four new, full-time employees. With more dedicated staffers, we can open more channels to get our message out. We have a great story to tell and it’s time to ready ourselves to spread the word.

Of particular note, we will be bringing someone aboard to set public policy, develop relationships with even more journalists, act as a key liaison to our lobbyist in Washington D.C., and most importantly influence the news in a proactive way. We need to be more active on social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and others. We need to use these channels to reach younger audiences.

The National Motorists Association is not a building or a place; it’s not a small band of people on a payroll. We are an organization represented by drivers in all 50 states as well as several foreign countries.

Even so, we need more horsepower where the rubber hits the road. In the coming days and weeks, expect to hear more from me about how we, the NMA, can leverage our collective power.

I am excited to be just one of many driving this change.

THE STORY OF THE YEAR WITH EXCLUSIVE INFOGRAPHIC:

First Comprehensive Overview of Twitter Files Revelations

https://cdn.epoch.cloud/infographics/Infographic_Twitter_Files_TheEpochTimes_v2_2.jpg

Files reveal how the government pressured the social media giant into censoring a large number of accounts.

Documents revealed by Twitter’s new owner, tech billionaire Elon Musk, show the social media company has been intertwined with a government–private censorship apparatus.

Twitter suppressed or removed content on various subjects, including irregularities in the 2020 elections, mail-in voting issues, and various aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company was under government pressure to purge such content and its purveyors from the platform, though most of the time it was cooperating with the censorship requests willingly, the documents indicate.

Musk took over Twitter in October, taking the company private. He then fired around half of the staff and much of the upper management, vowing to take Twitter in a new direction. The “#TwitterFiles” releases have been part of his promised focus on transparency for the company.

He allowed several independent journalists to submit search queries that were then used by Twitter staff to search through the company’s internal documents, sometimes under the condition that the resulting stories would be first published on the platform itself.

The two journalists primarily responsible for the releases have been journalists Matt Taibbi, a former contributing editor for Rolling Stone magazine, and Bari Weiss, a former editor at both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Both are liberals who have expressed disillusionment with the more extreme currents of progressivism and neoliberalism.

Others involved in the releases have been independent journalists Lee Fang and David Zweig, former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson, and author and environmentalist Michael Shellenberger.

The journalists have only released a fraction of the documents they reviewed. They’ve also redacted the names of employees involved, aside from some high-level executives.

The documents show that the FBI and other state, local, and federal agencies have been scrutinizing the political speech of Americans on a significant scale, and trying to get lawful speech suppressed or removed online. Many conservative and traditionally liberal commentators have deemed that a violation of the First Amendment.

FOO FIGHTERS AND GREEN DAY TO HEADLINE HARLEY-DAVIDSON HOMECOMING FESTIVAL

Harley-Davidson Announces July 13-16 120th Anniversary Event and Ticketing Details

The rumble of V-Twin engines and the crackling energy of amplified guitars will roll over the Milwaukee lakefront this summer when the Harley-Davidson Homecoming Festival takes over Veterans Park with headlining musical acts Foo Fighters and Green Day.

General admission and special VIP tickets with premium benefits for both Veterans Park events are on sale now at H-D.com/HomecomingTickets as the world’s most desirable motorcycle brand kicks off the celebration of its 120th Anniversary and reveals details of this exciting four-day moto-culture festival, set for July 13-16 at multiple venues in the Milwaukee area, the city where it all began for the Motor Company in 1903.

Harley-Davidson Homecoming Festival events will take place at venues across the Milwaukee area, including the Harley-Davidson Museum, Harley-Davidson Powertrain Operations, and at local Harley-Davidson dealerships.

Veterans Park in downtown Milwaukee will be the epicenter of day-long, family-friendly activities and music on Friday and Saturday. Green Day is set to headline an evening show on Friday, July 14. Foo Fighters will headline on Saturday, July 15. Also slated to perform during the weekend are: Cody Jinks, Social Distortion, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Phantogram, White Reaper, and KennyHoopla. Veterans Park will also be home to a family-friendly festival during the days that includes music, entertainment, activities, and a variety of food options.

“We are very excited to announce the Foo Fighters and Green Day as headliners at our Veterans Park festival location,” said Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson. “We can’t wait to host riders from all over the world in Milwaukee, as we come together as one Harley-Davidson family and welcome everyone to join us. With music at the heart of our festival, I can’t think of two more iconic American rock icons to join our community in celebrating 120 years of Harley-Davidson.”

The Harley-Davidson Museum will serve as a central rally point for free events. The 20-acre campus will host free live music, food-and-beverage sites, and skills demonstrations. The Museum will be open for general admission during the event. The weekend celebration will wrap up with a motorcycle parade through Milwaukee on Sunday.

Harley-Davidson motorcycle demo rides and product displays will be available at Harley-Davidson Powertrain Operations in Menomonee Falls, where visitors can also take a guided factory tour to see where Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight® and Revolution® Max V-Twin engines are made.

Six Milwaukee-area Harley-Davidson dealerships will also be hosting events and entertainment. Those dealerships include House of Harley-Davidson (Greenfield), Milwaukee Harley-Davidson (Milwaukee), Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson (Thiensville), Uke’s Harley-Davidson (Kenosha), West Bend Harley-Davidson (West Bend) and Wisconsin Harley-Davidson (Oconomowoc).

SCULPTURE OF THE WEEK FROM MAVARTS
Standing tall and proud on the hill, Sampson the WorkHorse symbolizes the best of all of us and is an inspiration to diligence, sacrifice and hard work.

The original statue, hand made by Monte Moore was powerful enough to launch a graphic novel, and the Bronze and Limited Edition versions of the statue have remained very popular since their offering.

But… there were requests for MOORE!

By popular demand, we now have a non-limited edition of the WorkHorse statuette for purchase. Each of these beautiful statuettes measures 13″ Tall x 16″ Long x 7″ wide and weigh aproximately 4 pounds. They are made of “Cold Cast” resin and are artfully patinized and finished.

These “Open Edition” WorkHorse Statuettes were created by our industry partners from a mold of the original WorkHorse statue by Monte Moore. About $150.00.

HIGH PRAISE FOR CO2 Coalition

Recalling his role as chairman of the Pennsylvania House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, recently retired Pennsylvania State Representative Daryl Metcalfe said this about us:

“The CO2 Coalition was crucial in our fight against those who attempted to hamper the development of Pennsylvania’s bountiful coal and natural gas deposits in the name of a fallacious climate-change agenda.

Gregory Wrightstone and his team provided scientific analysis in testimony and reports that backed our efforts to advance rational energy policies beneficial for the Keystone State and the entire country. When scientifically sound information was needed, the CO2 Coalition had it.”

That’s why CO2 Coalition doesn’t have to change our mission – or our programs – in order to succeed; we simply need to do more of what we do best!

MIC GOVERNMENT RELATIONS–U.S. House Passes Resolution Addressing Motorcyclist Profiling

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a bipartisan resolution highlighting motorcyclist profiling and promoting collaboration between the motorcycle and law enforcement communities.

The MIC Government Relations Office supported Michigan Congressman Tim Walberg, co-chair of the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus, as he sponsored the resolution and introduced it along with fellow co-chair Michael C. Burgess of Texas, plus Cheri Bustos of Illinois and Mark Pocan of Wisconsin.

H.Res.366 states that “motorcyclist profiling means the illegal use of the fact that a person rides a motorcycle or wears motorcycle-related apparel as a factor in deciding to stop and question, take enforcement action, arrest, or search a person or vehicle with or without legal basis under the Constitution of the United States.”

Trail Projects Can Pursue Federal Grant Funding

The U.S. Department of Transportation has published a notice of funding opportunity to come from a total of $1.5 billion in grants through the RAISE Discretionary Grant program. It’s designed to help communities nationwide with transportation infrastructure projects having significant local or regional impact. The focus is on transportation projects, but there may be opportunities to integrate trails, according to Christopher B. Douwes, community planner with the Federal Highway Administration.

HOW IT’S DONE IN SOUTH DAKOTA

Do you want to buy or sell a motorcycle engine or frame in South Dakota without a title? The first prudent thing to do is to have the serial numbers checked to be sure it is not stolen nor have a lien on it.

Follow these steps:

•Go to this State website: http://dor.sd.gov

•In the search box type: “DPPA”. This stands for Driver’s Privacy Protection Act. Select the form #1202.

•Fill out this form. In section D, check the Record Summary box. This report will cost you $2.00. You do not need to select the Title History box, as this report is not necessary for getting a title and cost an additional $5.00.

•You will need to do an electronic signature and give a credit card for the $2.

•If you want to also run another serial number i.e. a frame number, you will need to do a separate request.

•Once this is completed, the form is sent to the appropriate person at SD Department of Revenue. You do not need to mail it or bring in to the county treasurer as stated in Section A unless you don’t complete Section E.

•The report you will receive in the mail is essentially the same report a trooper would get running the numbers thru his in car computer.

OK, the report comes back clean and you want to get a SD title. Here’s the process:

•Get a Bill of Sale that itemizes all the parts that came with the transaction. If from a dealer, you will probable pay the state sales tax to the dealer. If from a private party, you will be charged 6.5% sales tax during the process of getting a title.

•As you build the bike, you need to save all receipts for money spent. These should show that you paid SD sales tax on this stuff. If you have a MSO (manufacturers statement of origin) for a frame or other parts, that also needs to be included with the application. Copies of all these documents need to be submitted along with the application below.

•Back to the dor.sd.gov website and search for: Application for Inspection of Rebuilt Motor Vehicle. This form once completed needs to be brought to your county treasurer or mailed the address in Pierre on the form. To be sure you have everything correct including payment, it’s safer to go to your county treasurer. There will be a $10 title fee and a $25 inspection fee due with the application. Note that your new title may use the current year as the bikes year of manufacturer.

•After submitting the form, bill of sale, etc. you will wait about a month to receive an approval letter from DOR with instruction for doing an inspection.

•Inspections are done once a month in Rapid City, Pierre and Sioux Falls. You will need to make an appointment. You can trailer the bike for the inspection. If you want to drive it, a temporary permit is needed. Complete instructions will be included in the letter you receive. The inspector will epoxy a plate to the frame of the bike with the new serial number.

•There are two dudes who handle all this rebuilt motor vehicle stuff and the inspections. They are the best source for any information you need during the process and are very helpful.

TEXAS WEATHER REPORT

It’s 80 degrees in Houston in January. I put the other tank on the Shovelhead, Ladies In Waiting! Although there seems to be some disagreement on the 10-year-old tires, what do you think a couple more high speed runs?

The upper white line is where the 130 tire self-clearance’d on a screw holding the front fender lower trim, brand new! May possibly been replaced by the previous owner, my dad would use what he had available.

JUST IN FROM THE BIKERNET INNER PEACH TEMPLE

What would it take today to fulfil your deepest desires?

If you were given one wish, what would it be?

Years ago, I may not have understood that nothing external to me could bring me true happiness.

Today I have so much appreciation for a new perspective.

It is a feeling we all crave.

While money can create fun and security, the mind will still quiet. But those moments of solitude can be terrifying. At some point in time, we all must face our thoughts.

Getting to the core of who we are requires some time in the trenches.

Bliss, love, and true inner peace can only greet us on the other side of our darkest tunnel. Once we make our way through the mind we can find our way back to the heart.

As someone who has faced my shadow many times, I am most appreciative of the little things that life has to offer. A hug, a compassionate smile, and a walk in nature or by the sea is all it takes to bring me joy.

Spend some time in the sun today, if you can. Go for a ride. Feel the warmth that serves as a reminder of the light within. Nurture the thoughts that arise. Offer love to anything that gets in the way, until it ceases to be an obstacle. Be kind and gentle with yourself as you navigate. We are all doing the best we can.

Bike Week and Biketoberfest may be changing

Here are four new things Daytona leaders are considering

by Eileen Zaffiro-Kean, The Daytona Beach News-Journal

Daytona Beach city commissioners batted around possible changes to Bike Week and Biketoberfest at a meeting last week, and next month local residents will have a chance to share their ideas on what they think would improve the two biker parties.

If commissioners do decide to tweak any rules, it wouldn’t impact this year’s Bike Week, which runs from March 3-12.

Here are four things city commissioners are contemplating changing for the future:

Approved biker rally locations could change

The city has a map that shows where it’s OK to have Bike Week and Biketoberfest activities such as bands playing on outdoor stages and itinerant vendors selling everything from turkey legs to jewelry.

The map still shows some streets that no longer have Bike Week and Biketoberfest festivities, such as Beach Street between Bay Street and the Main Street bridge, included in the areas eligible for special privileges during the events. And the map shows streets such as International Speedway Boulevard east of the Halifax River, where at least some business owners want the right to have vendors and paid parking lots during the two annual biker parties, outside the approved areas.

Commissioners will decide if they want to redraw the map to officially exclude some areas that once drew big crowds during the biker celebrations, and add new areas that could join the party.

Daytona Beach yards could become paid parking lots

City Commissioner Ken Strickland, whose zone includes the beachside north of Seabreeze Boulevard, has thrown out the idea to let homeowners who live near Main Street and Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard sell parking spots in their yards during Bike Week and Biketoberfest.

Strickland wants to give residents who put up with noise and other unpleasantries that come with the biker parties a chance to make a little money. He also wants to make it less lucrative to let a vacant lot sit empty all year except when it’s being used by people willing to pay for a parking spot during Bike Week and Biketoberfest.

A few city commissioners have expressed concerns about the idea, and some of them said they would like Police Chief Jakari Young to weigh in on it.

Parking lot standards could change

Commissioners have also discussed whether parking should be allowed on unimproved lots during Bike Week and Biketoberfest. They’ve talked about whether the lots should meet city standards for lighting, irrigation, landscaping, level surfaces and drainage.

Deputy City Manager Jim Morris said it can get expensive to meet city codes for permanent parking lots, and land owners would probably look at the amount of money they invested and drop any plans for using the property for new development.

City Commissioner Stacy Cantu maintains that the beachside severely lacks adequate parking, and she would prefer to see the city relax its parking lot standards to create more available spaces.

Vendor buildings could face code crackdown

The commissioners’ examination of biker event policies could also lead to more buildings coming into code compliance, and becoming more attractive to year-round tenants. Currently, businesses that want to operate in a building year-round have to bring it into full compliance, but the structures Bike Week and Biketoberfest vendors rent for only a week or two just have to meet fire codes and other life safety standards.

Some buildings vendors use, for example, don’t have handicap-accessible entrances and restrooms.
