Arizona salvage yard fire destroys 9,000 motorcycles

No lives were lost, but a fire that ignited the night of June 29 at a motorcycle salvage yard destroyed 9,000 motorcycles before spreading to an adjacent mobile home park, where it consumed five mobile homes and a shed. The Rye Fire started June 29 in the back of a home on the property of All Bikes Sales in Rye and burned for 12 hours, according to Gila County authorities. Flames lit up the night sky and exploding propane tanks complicated the firefight. The cause was under investigation. Though firefighters identified where the fire originated, it burned so hot for so long that investigators may not be able to determine what caused it, Incident Commander Dan Bramble said. Europe To Go Back To Include Motorcycles In Safety Inspections?

The European Parliament voted Tuesday (2 July) to extend vehicle safety checks to motorcycles, reversing a parliamentary committee’s effort to exempt two-wheeled vehicles from inspections. The new rules will gradually require regular inspections of motorbikes along with trailers used for hauling that weigh more than 750 kilogrammes. European Commission Vice President Siim Kallas, who introduced package of roadworthiness and inspection measures a year ago, welcomed the decision to include motorbikes as a step towards reducing highway deaths in the EU. “I am glad that the European Parliament takes the view that motorcycles need to undergo technical checks,” Kallas, who is in charge of transport, said in a statement. “Technical inspections of motorcycles will be a step forward to reach our ...
