89-Year-Old Motorcycling Grandma Joins Crowd Funding Effort for 'I AM STURGIS'

Why We Ride Films, the production team that brought you Why We Ride, the most critically acclaimed motorcycle movie of all time, is thrilled to have Gloria Struck join their Kickstarter campaign to help fund its new film I AM STURGIS. “We are honored to have Ms. Struck join our cause,” says Bryan Carroll, who directed Why We Ride and will direct I AM STURGIS. “Gloria is a legend. She inspires people whenever she rides, and she still rides a lot.” Ms. Struck first sat astride a motorcycle in 1941, at a time when very few women did so, and she’s been riding ever since. She travels annually to motorcycle rallies around the country and gatherings hosted by the groundbreaking, all-female motorcycle club she joined in 1946, the Motor Maids. This year, as she’s done many times in the past, she plans on riding the 1,700 miles from her home in Clifton, NJ, to South Dakota for the 75th Anniversary of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. She’s been making the trek to motorcycle rallies all over the country for over six decades. Read More

Russian Bikers Begin Run Despite Polish Entry Ban

From the Military Times. Riders from a Russian nationalist motorcycle group on Saturday began their run commemorating the Red Army’s offensive against Nazi Germany, despite Poland’s announcement that it would refuse to let them in the country. About 20 bikers including members of the Night Wolves group set off from Moscow with the aim of crossing into Poland before eventually reaching Berlin on May 9. Poland, alarmed by the aggressive nationalism of the Night Wolves, on Friday said it wouldn’t allow them entry. The Night Wolves were part of a larger group of several hundred bikers who rallied to mark the start of motorcycling season despite temperatures of 4 degrees (39 F) and intermittent rain mixed with snow. Flathead Power Brand Goes Back To Original Founder

S&S Cycle is transferring ownership of the Flathead Power brand back to Anders Nygren, the original founder of the Flathead Power company in Sweden free of charge. “We decided to discontinue using Flathead Power as a brand for our vintage product line about a year ago to consolidate our branding under the S&S Cycle name. We still owned the FHP trademark but had no plans to use it, so we decided to give it back to Anders.” says S&S Company president Paul Langley. When we called Anders to give him the news he was overjoyed. “The happiness when Bruce and Eric called and told me that I could have my old company name back was overwhelming. To be able to use what once was the start of over 20 years of production. The first 12 in Sweden, and the rest in the US. Flathead Power, just a name, means a lot to me and my family, as the next generation is taking over the jug juggling. My son Magnus was born in -95, Flathead Power started in -93, so he grew up with this. I can only take my hat off and say: Thank You S&S Cycle and the guys involved!” Anders Nygren started Flathead Power in Sweden in the early 1990s, mainly to provide impossible to find parts for his own vintage race bikes. His accomplishments as an engine builder and engineer were nothing short of amazing as he, for the most part, single handedly built his fledgling business into an internationally known source for quality reproduction and performance engine parts for vintage Harley-Davidson® motorcycles. Unfortunately, Flathead Power fell victim to a turbulent economy. Anders lost ownership of the name and the company, and Flathead Power was forced out of business. Rather than allow Flathead Power to fade away,
