Honda Concept — Part Car, Part Motorcycle

From CNET Honda’s two-wheel and four-wheel racing roots come together in Project 2&4, a conceptual racer that combines the look and handling of an open-wheel race car with the open feel and high-revving heart of a racing bike. Project 2&4 is powered by Honda’s RC213V competition motorcycle engine, which we’ve already seen in action in the RC213V-S sport bike. This is a MotoGP motorcycle racing engine that’s been modified to run on public roads. The 2&4’s 999cc, four-stroke V-4 boasts a screaming 14,000rpm redline and makes its peak 212 horsepower (215 PS) at an only slightly less lofty 13,000rpm. The engine’s 87 pound-feet of torque (118 Nm) is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed DCT transmission. The concept wraps that engine in a lightweight, compact chassis that resembles an open-wheel race car or oversize go-kart. Project 2&4 weighs a scant 893 pounds (405 kg) and has an extremely low center of mass. The overall footprint is 10 feet long (3,040mm) by 6 feet wide (1,820mm), giving the concept a wide, planted look. One of the most interesting bits of Project 2&4’s design is its “floating seat” cockpit design, which suspends the driver’s seat (the only seat) just inches above the asphalt. This open configuration is designed to combine the feel and freedom of driving a motorcycle with the grip and characteristics of a low-slung race car. More importantly, it looks amazing. We’ll be taking a closer look at the insane Project 2&4 when it makes an official debut at the 2015 Frankfurt auto show next week.

Valerie Thompson first female member of Colorado Mile 200 MPH Club

Seven-time land speed record holder Valerie Thompson became the first female member of the Colorado Mile 200 MPH Club with a top speed pass of 201.2 mph on her Quicksilver Powersports Lubricants/CTEK sponsored BMW. Thompson premiered an Iron Horse Motorcycles prepared motorcycle with an all-new hand built racing engine provided by BMW Motorrad, the first of its kind to see competition in the US. The Colorado Mile is a new competition for the 2015 land speed racing schedule. The event is held at Front Range Airport in Watkins and is Colorado’s first one-mile speed event. Thompson made a total of 11 runs on the one-mile course during the two-day speed festival, taking special care to break-in the custom built BMW racing engine and all-new high performance exhaust system. Denver’s high attitude provided its typical challenges thrown at every racing team manager and tuner. “Valerie is a true champion and fierce competitor, so we decided to provide her with a S 1000 RR Stage 3 HP Race engine, specifically the ‘Power Motor’ variant. This is the first time we have imported a Stage 3 engine to the US from the BMW HP race shop in Munich. Producing 215 hp from 999 cc, it’s the same engine specification BMW Motorrad offers teams participating in the FIM WSBK series,” said Mike Hernandez, Manager BMW Motorrad Parts and Accessories. “This was our first competition after several months of event cancelations at Bonneville. In addition to the BMW engine, we were testing a new Akrapovic exhaust system and other new equipment,” said Thompson. “The 8300 foot elevation near Denver is much higher than where we normally compete, so we knew optimal performance would be a real challenge. Despite that handicap, we learned a lot and I know the Quicksilver Powersports Lubricants BMW will go much

Sammy Halbert is third with 156 points, followed by Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Wrecking Crew rider Kenny Coolbeth Jr., in fourth place with 143 points. Johnson, Mees, Smith and Halbert made up a lead pack that swapped the first position for much of the 25-lap main. Coolbeth, aboard the Zanotti Racing Harley-Davidson XR750 motorcycle, caught the leaders in the closing laps after charging up from a back-row starting position. Johnson passed Mees and Smith to take his first lead of the afternoon as the trio charged through the final two turns of the historic Springfield oval, but Smith used the draft provided by Johnson and Mees to slingshot into the lead and win by just 0.026 seconds. Evolution of a Custom Motorcycle Builder

He’s been ‘The Dude,’ ’Jungle Jim,’ ’The Main Event,’ and ‘Custom Chucky P’ in his stellar career as a professional wrestler but Chuck Palumbo is fast becoming well known under his real name as a custom motorcycle builder and co star [with Rick Dore] of ‘Rusted Development’- formerly known as ‘Lords Of The Car Hoards.’ The 6-foot 5-inch hulk, a true gentle giant, has worked his way up through the ranks of the WCW, the WWF, and the WWE but pro wrestling, has always been a means to an end for the man (see the WWE story below). Chuck’s eye was always on another prize: owning his own custom bike shop. The bug bit him early when he and his dad wrenched a little rigid mini bike. Chuck was four. His first serious bike build kicked off in 1990. Before wrestling fame Chuck was a Navy aviation fabricator working in structural mechanics and executing sheet metal and fuselage repairs; riveting and TIG welding. Then came auto body painting. All this activity obviously put Chuck in a perfect position to one day found Chuck Palumbo Customs. The first creations Chuck turned out were home garage-built affairs. The blue and white rigid Shovel featured here is an example of what one can do with a garage-build according to Chuck. – See more of his bikes and read the rest of the story here.
