VEGAS BIKEFEST COMING BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for September 24, 2015

Hey,

There’s nothing like the wind in your hair and an open road. There’s nothing like the sense of accomplishment when you roll your project bike into the sun and fire it to life. In a sense any new technology helping us to meet our goals is a good thing.

But technology should be a stepping stone to more freedom not less. I keep waiting for a politician who understands the benefits of freedom and how to share them with our government. It can be done.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by Cycle Source Magazine, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation and Iron Trader News, the intelligent choice. So, let’s hit it.

SHOW RESULTS FROM BIKER PROS– Jeremy Cupp Wins CIA Custom Bike Show Results @ OC Bikefest.

Since its inception a half decade ago, OC Bikefest has emerged as one of the favorite fall events in Ocean City, MD. Popular among the motorcycle enthusiasts is the Customization in America (CIA) OC Bikefest Custom Bike Show. It provides a mix of national and regional builders in a slugfest of the top FreeStyle and Retro Mod builders.

FreeStyle Class – CIA Custom Bike Show

Jeremy Cupp’s takes CIA Custom Bike Show – Jeremy Cupp is the mastermind behind LC Fabrications. He rolled in his immaculately built custom sled featuring a 500cc Buell Blast motor with a Ducati top-end that is mated to a Triumph transmission. It might sound like a Frankenstein but it is the coolest little rocket at OC Bikefest. For his effort Bob Kay awarded him a check for $2,000.

The bike is called “Seven” – as it’s the seventh proper motorcycle to roll out of the LC Fabrications garage. As custom motorcycles go, this is an absolute masterpiece.

Be sure to follow LC Fabrications on INSTAGRAM (@lcfabrications) and Facebook to catch photographs of Jeremy’s bike if you didn’t have a chance to see the insanity that Jeremy builds.

1st Place – Jeremy Cupp, Custom Build

2nd Place – Dell Battle – 2001 Sportster

Dell Battle’s Custom Sportster

Dell Battle’s custom Sportster has only been in two shows and it took a 1st at the Harley-Davidson Museum Show and second at the CIA OC Bikefest Custom Bike Show.

This bike features a stock but highly-modified frame with air ride front and rear with a radical custom paint job.

Retro MOD – CIA Custom Bike Show

The Retro MOD winner for the 2015 CIA OC Bikefest Custom Bike Show is from builder Scott Stickman of Elwood Cycle. He rolled in his exquisite 1947 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead with matching numbers and rolled out with $2,000 for his effort. The red and white bobber features a custom rear fender, sissy bar and springer front end.

1st Place – Scott Stickman of Elwood Cycle

2nd Place – Bob Morefield – 1981 Sportster

Bob Morefield’s 1981 Sportster is a fan favorite. If you are old enough you probably rode a custom Sporty or someone in your posse did. Bob’s scoot is 30 years in the making and features a chrome springer with a 43 degree rake and a 3.5 nch stretch. The engine has been freshened up and totally re-chromed. Up front he rides with dual disc brakes, dual headlights and a high-mount Mustang tank. Bob rides away with $500 in cash award.

People’s Choice Award – Scott Stickman of Elwood Cycle was awarded a 5-Ball Leathers’ Special Ops Vest for the win.

Best Paint Award – Dell Battle’s custom Sportster wins best paint. He was also was awarded a 5 Ball Leathers’ Special Ops Vest for the win.

By entering the CIA show, the builders have an opportunity to win $5,000 in cash awards. In addition, the FreeStyle winner takes an additional $2,000 to attend AIMExpo in Orlando during Biketoberfest. Jeremy Cupp will represent CIA OC Bikefest in Orlando. Then the winner of the AIMExpo CIA Championship of the Americas is sent to the 2016 AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building in Germany.

The roaring waves aren’t the only thing people heard during OC Bikefest. Accompanying the thunderous motors of thousands of bikes were the headlining concerts including Great White and Kix, REO Speedwagon and The Doobie Brothers on Saturday. Also, bikers were treated to afternoon concerts by Porch 40, Big Engine, Kashmir, and Higher Education.

The Inlet is the central location for OC BikeFest, where the majority of the events take place. Musicians, bands and celebrities are present for the bikers to listen to and interact with. Enthusiasts met the custom builders including world-renown Jeremy Cupp, Evan Favaro, the custom bike builder from OCC, Atomic Bob, a world famous pinstriper, Harley-Davidson artist Scott Jacobs and TV personality Michelle Smith to name just a few.

BIKERNET GUN NUT REPORT– Swatting Gun Owners: A Deadly New Tactic.

Anti-gunners like to wear a badge of peaceful benevolence in contrast to the “violent” mindset of gun owners—as if being prepared for violence were equivalent to wanting it. Generally, their mindset can be chalked up to a naïve view of the world that would be harmless if it weren’t so widely held. But it’s important to remember that for some warped people out there, the thought of you walking around in public is so frightening that if they can’t have you disarmed, they don’t mind the thought of having you killed.

On July 24, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) posted the following admonition on its Facebook page:

If you see anyone carrying a firearm in public—openly or concealed—and have ANY doubts about their intent, call 911 immediately and ask police to come to the scene. Never put your safety, or the safety of your loved ones, at the mercy of weak gun laws that arm individuals in public with little or no criminal and/or mental health screening.

This advice makes no sense, and even people sympathetic to the anti-gun group’s agenda seemed confused. “You will always question their intent if you don’t know them,” pointed out one user. “Then call,” responded the page administrator for CSGV.

Other commenters pointed out that it was impossible to distinguish a real gun from a toy at a distance, going so far as to cite the cases of Tamir Rice and John Crawford III—both of whom were killed by police officers while holding toy guns. The admin(s) seemed unmoved, reiterating that police should be called in any case.

What CSGV was doing here was at best misguided, and at worst an example of the phenomenon most frequently referred to as “SWATting.” By asking police to confront law-abiding gun owners with the implication of suspicious circumstances, the anti-gun group was encouraging supporters to put the lives of those gun owners at risk.

While they were careful to contradict commenters who said they would file exaggerated or false reports, it is hard to see how a blanket recommendation to bring down a police presence on all known gun owners could lead anywhere else. After all, why would police even bother showing up if what a caller saw appeared to be a law-abiding gun owner?

Some commenters noted that they had been dismissed or even “laughed at” by police, especially in gun-friendly states like Arizona. In response, admins advised tying up emergency phone lines further, while another user recommended “the Highway Patrol, or FBI.” While they were careful to contradict commenters who said they would file exaggerated or false reports, it is hard to see how a blanket recommendation to bring down a police presence on all known gun owners could lead anywhere else.

CSGV is hardly alone in making these borderline calls for SWATting gun owners. An excellent National Review article by Charles C.W. Cooke documents the practice among members of Moms Demand Action and GunFreeZone.net. The comments for a recent video post on the Everytown Facebook page asking members to boycott Kroger for allowing guns in their stores had at least one notable example: “Whenever I see someone openly carrying a gun somewhere, I call the police immediately and let them know there is someone with a gun acting very threatening.” Another responded on Twitter, “You see a GunFilth waving its penis substitute, exit, call police. Armed robbery in progress.”

Most anti-gun activists are likely fundamentally good people with some very misguided opinions. But don’t forget that there exists a fringe of individuals with minds so twisted by fear that they’ll do anything to avoid the sight of a proud, legally armed American—even if that means getting someone hurt, or worse. They’re more than willing to use their cell phones as weapons.

You know what, though? We’re still not going to promote a law banning phones.

RED LIGHTS AND REPORTERS–

Good reporters are skeptical by nature. They’re not supposed to take official pronouncements at face value; they’re supposed to dig deeper to get the real story. Yet, we constantly see lazy reporting on driving issues or stories that simply parrot the latest propaganda from the likes of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Don’t get us wrong. We expect reporters to challenge our positions, but we also expect them to challenge the conventional wisdom as expressed by those on the other side. They seldom do.

So, when we do see more balanced and thorough coverage of motorists’ issues, we feel compelled to recognize it, as we did when Tampa TV reporter Noah Pransky exposed the rigged red-light camera game in Florida. Pransky’s reporting led to reforms that have curtailed the spread of ticket cameras throughout the state.

And last week, reporter Kathryn Watson wrote an insightful piece on speed cameras for The Daily Caller News Foundation. Instead of sounding like an IIHS press release, the article exposed the truth that speed cameras have everything to do with money and nothing to do with safety. The headline set the tone: “Speed Camera Are All Profit, No Mercy.”

Watson then told the story of Will Foreman, a Maryland business owner whose delivery trucks kept triggering the speed cameras, even though they weren’t speeding. Foreman received a legal aid grant from the NMA Foundation and went to court a dozen times. He eventually prevailed in several of those cases, but not before being put through the traffic justice meat grinder. Kudos to Watson for even bothering to talk to Foreman. Most reporters who contact the NMA have little interest in hearing the stories of those who have been victimized by photo enforcement.

Watson also dug into the numbers behind the cameras. She reported that in 2010 Forest Heights, Maryland, had a municipal budget of around $2 million. But after the speed cameras went up in 2011 that figure jumped to $5.9 million. The story also described how several large cities like New York and Chicago have raked in tens of millions in speed camera revenue.

But Watson didn’t stop there. She tied the spread of speed cameras to favorable media coverage: “Consequently, speed cameras are becoming more widespread, often encouraged by supportive media coverage.”

And then she dared to question the results of the latest IIHS “study” purporting to show widespread speed camera safety benefits. We have never seen the IIHS challenged in this way. In fact, NMA spokesperson John Bowman was actually quoted rebutting the IIHS report. Again, this never happens, even though we call out the self-serving motives of IIHS and its deficient studies at every opportunity.

Finally, Watson dug up a 2013 study we hadn’t seen yet. It comes from the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine and examined the impact of speed cameras along a stretch of highway in Arizona. The study concluded the presence or absence of speed cameras had no impact on crashes: “Our data did not show any statistical increase or decrease in total number of motor vehicle crashes with speed cameras,” the study said.

Thanks, Kathryn! We’ll add that one to our arsenal.

We understand Watson plans several follow-up pieces. We can’t wait to read them.

NEW SCOOTER TRAMP SCOTTY FEATURE COMING TO BIKERNET–
It was a momentary lull in this never ending journey of campsites, parties, changing scenery, sights, people, adventures, and strange circumstances. I slipped into a time of good friends, tranquility, and easy living. And so, to my delight, did the wintertime adventures of Eden (at the southern tip of Florida) and the bond that had formed between Steve, Tom, and myself continued…

None who lived within the two houses at Eden had jobs at this time and mornings were spent at the coffee pot and breakfast table. Sometimes we chattered on into the afternoon. But a home and property do require chores, and it was Tom who helped Steve empty the green swimming pool I’d deemed “mosquito swamp.”

Don’t miss the ongoing saga.

I’d really like to know what you used to fill the gap on the side of these saddlebags? I really like what you’ve done with your bags. I have a set of cop bags as well, because I wanted the one touch operation (like the new bags) but can’t afford to buy a new bike.

I would appreciate it if you could drop me a line and give me a step-by-step account of what you did to fill those gaps in.

WISCONSIN SUPREME COURT CONSIDERS OPEN RECORDS CASE–

By – Associated Press – Saturday, September 19, 2015

MILWAUKEE (AP) – The Wisconsin Supreme Court is considering whether some common public records like traffic accident reports and tickets should be off-limits to journalists in a case that could affect the state’s long-standing open records law.

Stories such as former Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager’s 2004 drunken driving arrest, or other violations involving prominent drivers, might never get reported without access to the names and addresses in such records, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Saturday
(http://bit.ly/1QpHObl).

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments Friday in a lawsuit by the New Richmond News, which sued the city of New Richmond because its police department routinely blacked out names and other information from reports that the paper requested. The city cited the federal Drivers Privacy Protection Act.

At issue is whether the DPPA trumps Wisconsin’s open records law. Last year, a St. Croix County judge ruled in favor of the newspaper.

Congress passed the federal law in 1994 after a stalker got an actress’ home address through motor vehicle records, then killed her. The DPPA restricts use of personal information obtained from motor vehicle departments, but lists several permissible uses, though none specifically for news reporting.

No one expected it would undo states’ open records laws. But an ultimately unsuccessful lawsuit under the DPPA by an Illinois man who said his personal information was on a parking ticket left by police onhis windshield struck fear at the League of Wisconsin Municipalities and its self-insurance company. They advised clients to err on the side of
censorship. If something as innocuous as a parking ticket could violate the DPPA, they worried, any number of police records could.

So law enforcement agencies all over Wisconsin began blacking out names, addresses and ages of people in even the most routine traffic accident reports, and in other records if the information was obtained from or confirmed by driver’s license and motor vehicle records.

They did so even though in 2008, then-Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen expressly said that the DPPA did not require such redactions.

Last year, St. Croix County Circuit Judge Howard Cameron ruled for the New Richmond News, citing two exceptions in the federal law that he said clearly allow Wisconsin agencies to release public records under state law. One of the permissible uses under DPPA is by a government agency “while carrying out its functions.” Complying with state public records law is one of the New Richmond police department’s functions, Cameron said.

The city appealed directly to the Wisconsin Supreme Court to “definitively resolve this growing statewide controversy.”

Arguing for the newspaper, attorney Robert Dreps said Congress could have pre-empted states’ public record laws with the DPPA, but would have had to make it extremely clear that it was doing so, and did not. He also said no other state has taken the restrictive approach favored by Wisconsin municipalities.

New Richmond’s attorney, Remzy Bitar, said that if the newspaper’s view was correct, the exception for state law would “swallow the entire DPPA.”

POEM OF THE WEEK–
When you’ve tickled all the ivories up and down the Ivory coast

And when you’ve dined on tea and crumpets with the mighty holy ghost

Come on by and see us and we’ll sing a little song

Just come on by for poetry and don’t be gone so long.

THE ARMED CITIZEN DETROIT– Detroit is a dangerous city that seems to be getting more dangerous as the days pass. Fortunately for Detroit residents, Michigan has a shall-issue Right-to-Carry law that makes it easy for law-abiding citizens to get carry permits.

These residents aren’t afraid to use their firearms to save themselves and others, as the following six stories show.

Just because someone is going to a medical facility doesn’t make them any more vulnerable than anyone else. An armed robber targeted a Michigan patient who had pulled into a parking lot at a dialysis center for treatment early one morning. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department said the robber stepped out of a wooded area near the parking lot, pulled his gun and demanded the driver’s wallet.

The patient responded by drawing his own gun and asking, “Do you really want to do this?”

The assailant turned and ran. Police tried to track the suspect with dogs, but couldn’t find him. (myfoxdetroit.com, Detroit, Mich., 5/19/15)

Steve Utash was driving in Detroit, Mich., when he accidentally struck a 10-year-old boy with his vehicle. Retired nurse Deborah Hughes was inside her nearby home at the time, and once she became aware of the accident, she retrieved a .38-caliber pistol and went to see if she could help.

While she was trying to comfort the injured boy, a mob began to attack Utash, who had stopped and gotten out of his vehicle. As the beating was taking place, Hughes rushed over to the crowd and told the mob, “Don’t kick him anymore, don’t hit him anymore, get back,” halting the attack.

Hughes later told a local media outlet, “I had a gun in my pocket, I was ready to do some damage if I had to.” Following the incident, Detroit Police Chief James Craig referred to Hughes as a “Detroit hero.”

Hughes made clear to a reporter that she is often armed stating, “You have to carry a gun around here … this neighborhood is terrible. I don’t walk around without my gun.” (The Detroit News, Detroit, Mich., 4/8/14; WJBK, Detroit, Mich., 4/8/14; WXYZ, Detroit, Mich., 4/7/14)

Around 3:30 p.m., a woman who was home alone heard noises that prompted her to investigate. She saw a man attempting to gain entry to her home through a window. The resident warned the man to stop. When he continued through the window, however, the woman ran to the next room to retrieve her handgun. She fired once, striking the intruder in the chest. He fled the scene, but collapsed in the street nearby. The gunshot wound proved fatal. (The Detroit News, Detroit, Mich., 3/1/14)

A woman was heading inside after pulling her car into the garage at her Detroit, Mich., home when a man armed with a gun attempted to rob her. In response, the resident, a Right-to-Carry permit holder, drew a gun and shot the attacker, killing him.

The shooting marked the third recorded incident in a week in which armed Detroit residents defended themselves from criminal attack. This string of defensive gun uses follows a late-January statement by Detroit Police Chief James Craig, in which he noted, “I did, in fact, say that good Americans, good Detroiters, if responsible, could get CPLs, and that it could—emphasis on the word ‘could’—be a deterrent to violent crime. I said that because of my experience in four cities, having seen good Americans and good Detroiters that have CCWs, and what effect it has had on deterring violent crime. (My Fox Detroit, Detroit, Mich., 2/22/14; WXYZ, Detroit, Mich., 2/22/14; The Detroit News, 1/31/14)

A mother was at home with her children in Detroit, Mich., when three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, broke into the house. The mother responded by retrieving a semi-automatic rifle and warning the intruders that she was armed.

When the criminals persisted despite the warning, the mother fired at the home invaders. At first, all three intruders retreated outside the home, but the one armed with a pistol decided to try to enter the home again. The criminal’s re-entry prompted another round of gunfire from the mother, at which point the armed home invader fled for good. Police captured the trio a short time later. (WXYZ, Detroit, Mich. 2/18/14)

Ernest Robinson, an assistant high school basketball coach, was escorting two of his female team members from the building one evening when they were approached by two teenage boys. One of the teenagers wielded a gun. The gunman ordered the girls to leave as the other teen yanked at the chain Robinson wore around his neck.

Robinson quickly pulled out his concealed pistol and fired at both assailants, killing one and wounding the other. The surviving perpetrator is now being charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of assault with intent to rob while armed. (The Detroit News, Detroit, Mich., 2/15/13)

Interesting. That motorcycle was built in the early ‘70s by the notorious Bob T. from 13 Palms, California. It was originally a ’48 Panhead and he added a Shovelhead top end, and glide front end. He sold it just before he went to prison.

When he got out of Alcatraz 30 years later, he found the owner and took his motorcycle back. It now has a stock springer front end and upswept pipes. He’s still in hiding somewhere in the Mojave desert.

UNCLE MONKEY’S WEEKLY RIDE– Over the course of 45 minutes one-by-one another bike rolls into the truck stop on a sunny Saturday morning. It is a scene that plays out every weekend as friends come together, pick a random direction and ride – ride away the week, ride away the stress of bills, family and work.

Meeting in mall parking lots, gas stations, and truck stops to fuel up the motorcycle and the machine behind the bars. They greet each other with warm embraces, jovial laughter emanating from the gut and not from behind fake smiles, or behind fake friends. Each has earned their spot in the group.

Road Captain maps out a path, the talker keeps everyone entertained, and the slow one who is always running behind. The new machine cools next to the road worn one. Leathers are more comfortable at highway speeds rather than stationary in a busy parking lot.

Destinations on the horizon, maybe to visit a friend in the hospital, maybe to stop in to visit family, maybe to visit the cold granite that all that is left of a good friend. Miles peeled across this nation, past waving fields, past smiling children. A couple of cold drinks shared, a couple more stories told, and a couple new ones for those who couldn’t make it this time.

Bug splattered leathers draped over handlebars wait for the next stretch of road. Faces gritty and grimy from the last run, hair matted down with sweat and dirt, the sheen of the road. Behind it all is still the bright smiles, still the bright hearts.

Comradery, brotherhood, understanding the sky, the road, and the machine that brings us forth. Bonds forged stronger than the steel between their legs. The sun crosses the sky squeezing and stretching shadows cast against rolling country ditches. This is why they ride, why for those few fleeting hours on a clear Saturday afternoon they are the masters and commanders of all that was before them.

You feel it rumbling in your gut, in your soul, you know every cheek caught bug, every jar in the arm from vibrated hands. There’s the soreness in the bones, soreness in your chest from laughter, and weariness of long hard miles on asphalt.

Only one difference is this group. It’s a weekly band of solo women riders in Canada.

FLYING PISTON Benefit Breakfast Wrap Up International Custom Builders Mix & Meet at Sturgis 75th Rally–

Bringing back a rally tradition, The Flying Piston reports a successful re-ignition of the breakfast meet & greet, bringing together custom builders and fans at the heart of the Sturgis rally. Kicking off the Sturgis 75th on Sunday, August 2, fans and builders alike enjoyed an exclusive preview of the Buffalo Chip’s “Motorcycles As Art” Show and raised funds for technical education scholarships.

The event brought together in one place the custom builders whose bikes appeared in the Motorcycles As Art Exhibit curated by Michael Lichter. Fans purchased tickets to join them at the Chip’s Russ Brown Event Center for breakfast, to shake hands, sign autographs and pose for pictures. The builders autographed several special auction items and took the opportunity for networking among themselves, as well.

Proceeds benefit the Buffalo Chip’s Technical Education Scholarship Fund established to help high school graduates and U.S. military veterans pursue motorcycling as a career.

“We’re so grateful to our sponsors, without whom the breakfast could not have happened,” said organizer Marilyn Stemp, “including our host, the Buffalo Chip, and the companies that supported the silent auction.”

These include: Harley-Davidson Footwear, Revere Seats, Bikernet, 5-Ball Racing Leathers, Painter Darren McKeag, Low Brow Artist Atomic Bob, Avon Tyres, Cruisin’ Goods, Klock Werks/Kicker Audio, Corbin Seats, Aeromach, The Leatherworks, Iron Trader News and Cycle Source Magazine.

Thanks also to Rod Woodruff, event emcee Dumptruck, AIMExpo’s Bob Kay, Michael Lichter, Cyril Huze, Nyla Griffith and Buffalo Chip support staff.

STURGIS Attendance at 75th Motorcycle Rally a record– Estimates hit 739,000 people attending this year’s 75th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. That’s a record.

Sturgis based estimates on a number of factors, including state Department of Transportation traffic counts, sales tax collections, the amount of garbage hauled away, and toilet paper used during the rally.

Projections for the 75th crested 1 million people. Estimates didn’t peak a million but they did beat the estimated 633,000 people who flooded Sturgis at the 60th rally in 2000.

Hang on for more reports.

WIRE PLUS Announces Dealer Discount on Big Dog Harness Modification Services–

BEFORE
Winfield, KS – Wire Plus is proud to introduce their new Big Dog Motorcycle Retrofit Kit Program for dealers at a reduced cost. Big Dog motorcycles have been plagued with electrical problems for years that have cost riders tons of time and money….not to mention owning a bike that can’t be ridden.

Wire Plus developed the Big Dog EHC Retrofit Kit as a solution to the problem that their Big Dog Motorcycle had an inevitable failing EHC. Wire Plus has now developed a new program that will save dealers and riders time and money by doing the work for you!

AFTER
Save Time – It can take 8-12 hours to modify an existing Big Dog wiring harness to complete a retrofit kit install…until now! Wire Plus will do the work for you. Just take off the stock Big Dog wiring harness (usually takes 1 – 2 hours) and send it to Wire Plus so they can do all of the work for you.

They will visually inspect each individual wire, eliminate the “printer style” connectors that are exclusive to Big Dog, put on new waterproof Deutsch connectors that will make the harness “plug and play” ready for the Wire Plus EHC Retrofit Kit modules.

They will give it one more thorough inspection, bench test it to ensure that it’s perfect and ship it back to you. All you have to do is reinstall the newly modified Big Dog Harness (usually takes 1 – 2 hours), hook up and mount the EHC Retrofit Kit Modules and you’re done!

There’s no more wondering if your harness is modified correctly because Wire Plus just corrected the Big Dog’s problem in a fraction of the “normal” time. The average time it takes to modify a complete harness has been reduced to zero because Wire Plus does it for you.

Big Dog Retrofit Kit
Save Money – The Wire Plus Big Dog EHC Retrofit Kit is not cheap to begin with and add your shop labor and your customer is looking at a pretty good sized bill. You can pass along some of the savings directly on to your customer as well as make a few extra bucks for your shop. You can do more bikes with the new Big Dog Harness Modification Program from Wire Plus.

Special Pricing – Our Big Dog Harness Modification Service usually retails for $249.50 (normal dealer cost-$175.80), but for a limited time, dealers can get the harness modification service for the low price of $99.50 if they buy the retrofit kit as well as the ignition.

BIKERNET’S 5-Ball RACING WHEELER REPORT–
Ohio Mile …. 9/27-28****

Ohio Mile Next Stop

Brought to you live, Wednesday evening from Beautiful Downtown Olive Branch, Mississippi.

Seems that if it weren’t for the last minute, finishing any job would be extremely difficult. With that theory and strategic planning in mind, we waited until Monday morning to prepare for a Thursday departure. The long awaited destination, Wilmington, Ohio to participate in the last race of the season– The Motorcycle Shoot Out at The Ohio Mile.

Tech is Friday all day with racing on Saturday and Sunday. Here’s to blue skies and light tail winds for all.

Speaking of small miracles, Monday afternoon my oldest son Ryan and his wife Tosha landed a 19 inch, dark haired, 7 lb. 7 oz., grandson number three in Dallas, Tx. … 9/21/2015 .. Elijah Austin Tucker. The week and the year just keep getting better, as expected.

The founder of NG1 Tech Flo, Dustin Nord and I spent Monday morning at the local fab shop preparing three top secret systems for a run at the Ohio Mile this weekend.

This morning we unloaded the Raycer for a last minute axel-to-axel check. One thing lead to another and then, Jimmie set up his dial indicator to check sprocket run out, discovering … rear wheel sprocket run out is .020, after cleaning the chain added friction modifier to reduce parasitic drag.

With the body work off we decided to knock some of the treasured, hard earned, Bonneville Salt Flats rust, then prime as much as possible. Off came the fuel tank for easier access to the top end. Jimmie discovered a slightly oil misted head gasket on the rear cylinder in the number 4 head bolt area. The manual calls for 38 to 42 ft lbs of torque. The number 4 bolt moved about a quarter of a turn.

The frame is now primed and ready for re- assembly in the morning. On the list of all lists, tie wrap, mount the bodywork, mount the new exhaust and fabricate a pipe support system. Safety wire. Check the fluids then bring the engine up to operating temperature and dial in the patented test pipes. We’ll match mark each pipe to insure maximum performance.

On the keep your old ass movin’ list after The Ohio Mile, haul ass Monday morning to Corfu, New York. A mere 414.45 miles North/eastward, where Dan Thayer at V Twin Fuel Injection will be waiting with a dyno for additional tuning and testing.

This is, this evenings cut in concrete plan that’s subject to change in the blink of the blood-shot eye ball.

Oh Shit, another surprise call Monday from Josh Elkins, Ignitemedia.TV. Josh is sending a hardwire, video camera with the latest greatest shit. The camera is scheduled to arrive in the morning. Another to-do on the short list.

By the way, Schneider Trucking has a great Veterans Support program.

Time to pass out and dream of speeds faster than the speed of light.

Ride, Safe, Fast and Ride Forever.

THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS STILL OPEN– An older couple were lying in bed one night. The husband was falling asleep but the wife was in a romantic mood and wanted to talk. She said: “You used to hold my hand when we were courting.”

Wearily he reached across, held her hand for a second and tried to get back to sleep. A few moments later she said: “Then you used to kiss me.”

Mildly irritated, he reached across, gave her a peck on the cheek and settled down to sleep.

Thirty seconds later she said: “Then you used to bite my Neck.”

Angrily, he threw back the bed clothes and got out of bed. “Where are you going?” she asked.

“To get my teeth!”

Law of Mechanical Repair – After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch and you’ll have to pee.

Sorry for not calling you on New Year’s, but I just got out of jail. I was locked up for punching the shit out of this idiot at a party. In my defense, when you hear an Arab counting down from 10 your instincts kick in.

Law of Probability- The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

POLICE MOTORCYCLE SANS RIDER–
This is an innovative idea that sounds like something straight out of science fiction. It could very well become a reality in the near future though. The time may be upon us in which we can expect to be ticketed without an officer even needing to be present.

-The Concept

Deemed the interceptor, this concept is a driverless police vehicle. It would be equipped with 3D cameras and an extremely complex monitoring system. The “drone” will be able to monitor the streets, issue citations, and record violations in real time. Another widely accepted use for this vehicle would be nightly patrols and neighborhood watch, while being almost completely silent.

–Where the Idea Comes From

There have recently been incredible advancements with pilotless drone tech. This has brought new options for public works. This area has already expanded, traffic cameras have been around for a long time, recently though it has become common for those cameras to sense your speed and take pictures of your car if you are exceeding the limit. The Interceptor is simply the next logical step in this evolution of technology. This would bring a real time monitoring system that has the ability to deal with the violations in real time. Not only that but it would also reduce the need for officers behind the wheel for traffic violations, allowing the budget to expand from personnel to tech, and safety advancements.

–What makes it Tick?

The main function of this un-manned vehicle is to pursue and ticket offenders. The way that it does this is a true feat of modern technology. Powered by a 18Kw electric engine, this not only makes the vehicle look cool, but it enables the Interceptor to take traffic policing to the next level. Equipped with a state of the art internal gyroscope, this bike can maintain total balance even while at a stop light. The onboard GPS allows the vehicle to always know the best way to get to and from the destination. That and its innumerable cameras, and speakers; this vehicle is very well equipped to maintain complete vigilance while monitoring traffic for violations.

Not only does the Interceptor monitor for speeding violations, it is also constantly scanning and running liscense plates to check for registration violations. When it senses a violation the Interceptor records the action in real time. Making use of its state of the art audio visual system to make sure that the entire encounter is recorded, including real time stats that include speed, and direction. The Interceptor will then immediately issue a citation that will be delivered via e-mail, text, or postal service. The Interceptor will then continue on its way, there is no need for the vehicle to stop. If the violator continues the illegal behavior the Interceptor will notify local offices and they can then stop the suspect.

–Real World Application

This is not simply a tool to be used to issue citations. Each Interceptor takes the place of an officer that was previously dedicated to traffic violations. Allowing said officer to focus on more pressing issues that truly require their presence.

NEVER, EVER, A DULL MOMENT—I’ve tried to take a hard look at those words. It’s all my fault. I keep adding to the projects list like I’m going somewhere, I’m running out of time, or I’m going to change the world. I doubt if any of the above are doable. Hell, according to all the climate change freaks the tide will rise and sweep all my shit away, so let’s party.

Ride to Vegas is just around the corner. The Redhead of Redheads and I will cut a dusty trail in the middle of the night on the 5-Ball Chief. We may make it, then again, ya never know.

The gang is cranking out the content as fast as a new topic floats to the surface. I’m due to complete Todd’s Shovel feature next week. James and Jeremiah are installing a set of Samson exhaust on a Dyna today. Haven’t heard a peep.

Then I need to reach out to Rick Whitehead about all the Custom Cycle Engineering alignment and rubbermount parts for Dynas. That will be a helluva tech. Looking forward to it.

In the meantime, have a helluva weekend.

Ride Free Forever,

–Bandit
