Each year, nearly 125,000 motorcyclists roll into the Daytona Beach area for a multi-day, annual event called Biketoberfest. This extended weekend of fun and sun includes motorcycle shows and rallies, live music, scenic rides along A1A and other historic roadways, racing at Daytona International Speedway and vendors offering everything from the latest models to parts and accessories.

LINCOLN ELECTRIC– to Feature Celebrity Instructors for Welding Classes at SEMA 2016.
Lincoln Electric has contracted with master builder and television personality Bryan Fuller and longtime educator and author Mark Prosser to team up to teach several seminars on welding and fabricating at Booth 24643 during the Specialty Equipment Market Association’s (SEMA) signature event, Nov. 1-4, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Fuller, owner of Atlanta-based hot rod shop Fuller Moto, was a cast member on Discovery Channel’s Overhaulin’ series and more recently co-hosted Velocity Network’s Café Racer and Naked Speed. He routinely teaches welding seminars. Prosser, a welding instructor for more than a decade, is the lead instructor at Blackhawk Technical College in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Together, the pair have gained prominence in the fabricating industry for their series of instructional videos (found on the Fuller Moto YouTube channel). They also have co-written two books under their Full-Bore Publishing brand, including “Full-Bore Sheet Metal” and “Full-Bore Welding.”

UNCLE MONKEY ON PARTS HOARDING– A part here, a part there. A few scraps squirreled away for safe keeping. Over time you reach a point where you have to do something with them.
My wife has been giving me a hard time for years for squirreling away little pieces of wood, pieces of trim. I knew I had to use them or eventually toss them. Being on a cleaning kick of late having tossed out hundreds of old t-shirts rarely worn or worn out, I decided to finally tackle the wood pile.
Our hundred year old house did have a wood burning fire place but over the years it was converted to an electric one before we tossed a cheap one in front. It didn’t look right so I had boxed it in in some attempt to make it look nice.
I knew about the pieces hid away so I decided to clean out all the wood. After sorting here and there I went back to our plain box and started trimming it out. A couple hours later and I had worked my way through most of the piles and had a fairly cool front for our fireplace. The remaining wood will make its way to my son’s house now.
A piece here, a piece there. One to patch a hole, one to level something out.
It is amazing what we hid-away under benches and in rafters. Last time I went through my spare parts I had enough to build my bike Snow White.
We know as soon as we throw something away we will need it – I have to get some small pieces back from my son’s to patch a couple holes in our lath and plaster ceiling. I know that after I had sold off many of my old tools I was kicking myself because they sure would be handy in my motorcycle trailer. But eventually we have to say good bye.
Every couple of years I go through my garage and evaluate what I have hid away in boxes. Some stays, some gets sold off and some find their way to the landfill. While it may seem that it is simplifying we also know that with more garage space is more room for more parts.

THE GUN NUT REPORTS KEEP COMING–Another Resounding Victory for Firearm Rights.
At the end of September, Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona of the United States District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands invalidated the majority of firearm restrictions challenged in a lawsuit in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). This is the same Chief Judge Manglona who earlier this year struck down the last handgun ban in the United States, in Radich v. Guerrero.
The government’s response to the Radich decision was to cobble together a new Special Act for Firearms Enforcement (SAFE), a “dramatic overhaul” of the Commonwealth’s gun-control laws, enacted two weeks after the court struck down the handgun ban. In signing the legislation, Gov. Ralph Torres explained that because of the ruling, “the only option we have is to make regulations as strict as possible.”
The NRA predicted that this new legislation would certainly face a court challenge. Sure enough, in this most recent case of Murphy v. Guerrero, the court considered the validity of several restrictions in SAFE and the CNMI Weapons Control Act. These included the requirement that a person obtain a license for and register all firearms by way of a government-issued weapon identification card (WIC).
Under CNMI law, it was a crime to possess or import firearms and ammunition without a WIC, and persons without a WIC were liable to have firearms seized as contraband upon entry into the Commonwealth. The law also restricted how firearms could be stored at home by requiring them to be stored in a locked container or disabled with a trigger lock, or “carried on the person” by someone aged at least 21.
The Commonwealth law also banned large capacity magazines (LCMs), being any magazine or similar device that could hold more than ten rounds; banned rifles in calibers above .223; banned “assault weapons;” and prohibited transporting operable firearms by allowing only the carrying or transport of guns that were unloaded and carried or transported apart from any ammunition. Lastly, a $1,000 excise tax was imposed on all imported handguns, irrespective of the gun’s value.
These restrictions were challenged by Paul Murphy, a veteran who served honorably on active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan as a U.S. Army Ranger. He had his handgun, rifle, and ammunition confiscated when he entered the CNMI; other guns were seized when he later refused to re-register or register his rifles.
None of his property had been returned to him. Murphy protested these seizures to Commissioner James Deleon Guerrero of the Department of Public Safety and the CNMI Office of the Attorney General, but was told that his disagreements with the law were improperly made or, in the case of the Attorney General’s Office, not acknowledged at all.
Murphy filed his lawsuit as a pro se litigant, arguing that these restrictions violated his Second Amendment rights. The CNMI’s founding covenant adopts and recognizes the Constitution of the United States of America, and adopts the Second Amendment and section 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution as they apply to the states. Accordingly, the Second Amendment applies with full force in the CNMI as if it were a state.
After extensive legal analysis, the court determined that the firearm registration requirement, the ban on rifles in calibers larger than .223, the ban on “assault weapons,” the ban on transporting operable firearms, and the $1,000 excise tax were unconstitutional, but left in place the licensing and storage requirements, and the ban on LCMs.
Chief Judge Manglona found that the registration requirement unconstitutionally burdened Second Amendment rights because, for each firearm a responsible law-abiding person had to register (even if he or she already had a WIC), the person still had to wait at least 15 days before the gun could be possessed lawfully.
No public safety rationale advanced by the government justified this restriction. Similarly, the long gun caliber restriction failed because the government’s reason for the ban – that bullets from such guns travelled farther and thus carried a more significant risk of collateral damage for missed shots – was unsupported by any evidence.
Even assuming this restriction had its intended effect, there was nothing to show that it actually made bystanders any safer. “The Commonwealth cannot heavily burden a constitutional right with such scant evidence.”
Turning to the ban on “assault weapons,” defined as including semiautomatic rifles with any of the prohibited attachments (a pistol grip under the action, a thumbhole or folding or telescoping stock, a flare launcher, a flash suppressor or a forward pistol grip), the court concluded that these weapons were “not dangerous and unusual,” and if anything, the evidence “suggests that the banned attachments actually tend to make rifles easier to control and more accurate—making them safer to use,” with “self-defense safer for everyone.”
The government’s own expert testified that “there [was] no law enforcement concern for pistol grips or thumbhole stocks,” and essentially no difference between a short standard stock (which was legal) and a shortened retractable stock (which was not). In the absence of evidence demonstrating a public safety reason for the ban, this, too, was held to be invalid.
Regarding the public carry ban and transportation restriction, which prohibited carrying an operable firearm in public, Chief Judge Manglona parted ways from the decisions of recent federal courts by ruling that “the Second Amendment, based on its plain language, the history described in Heller I, and common sense, must protect a right to armed self-defense in public.”
Because the restriction “completely destroys that right, it is unconstitutional regardless of the level of scrutiny applied, and the Court must strike it down.” However, that conclusion was based on the law’s impact on the individual’s right to carry and transport an operable handgun openly for self-defense outside the home, and did not extend to restrictions on the transportation of other firearms.
The government defended the final restriction, the excise tax, as a legitimate revenue-raising mechanism that was protected from judicial second-guessing. The court noted that when the tax was considered against the cost of the least expensive ($150) handguns, the tax amounted “to a whopping 667% tax, more than six times higher” than the penalties imposed under the Commonwealth’s import tax laws.
Further, there was no legitimate and important interest to be served by imposing this special tax. “Public safety cannot be the legitimate interest, unless the Commonwealth seeks to safeguard the community by disarming the poor.” Clearly, what was being contemplated was the destruction of the right to keep and bear a handgun for self-defense.
The government could not do indirectly through taxation what it was forbidden to do directly through regulation; accordingly, this “excessive” and “tremendous” burden on the exercise of the right of law-abiding citizens to purchase handguns for self-defense could not stand.
In granting the permanent injunction against the enforcement of the invalidated laws, the court especially commended the courage and dedication of Paul Murphy in his “lone uphill battle” against the deprivation of his, and his fellow citizens’, inalienable constitutional rights. FLAGLER BEACH TRAFFIC ALERT– There’s a detour on A1A
Motorcycle riders and all other motorists are asked to be mindful of a traffic detour on State Road A1A in Flagler Beach, which has an area 10 blocks long that’s severely damaged from Hurricane Matthew.
A1A is closed in that area and a detour now takes traffic onto South Central Avenue at 8th Street South and 22nd Street South.
Flagler Beach Police Chief Matt Doughney said South Central Avenue is “a quiet, quaint, two-lane roadway that runs through a residential neighborhood” and he’s asking visitors to keep their speed at 25 mph along the detour and be mindful of noise.

AGAJANIANS INDUCTED IN SAN PEDRO SPORTSWALK
The Agajanians, Cary, JC Jr. and Chris, made the front page of the Daily Breeze when they were inducted into the Sportswalk Hall of Fame.
They were honored for their years of promotion and race car ownership. Promotions included Ascot Park, which had over 160 events a year and 1/2 million loyal fans. A car carrying the #98 plate won the Indianapolis 500 in 1952, 1963, 2011 and 2016. The first three cars will be joined by the 2016 winning car in the Indianapolis Motor Sports Speedway.

The promoters are moving the event to England’s Matterley Basin because of the low spectator turnout for Monster Energy MXGP at Glen Helen. There will be a large amount of investment in the event and they feel that a track that has proven spectator attendance is a better fit at this time. There are still possibilities for the 2019 at Glen Helen.

AEROMACH OWNER Joins the 200 mph Club on Turbo Hyabusa– Paul Aiken, owner of Aeromach USA, LLC, a motorcycle parts manufacturer located in Charlotte, N.C., joined the elite club of motorcyclists to go over 200 mph.
The run came at the Mojave Magnum event held on October 8 & 9 at Mojave Air and Space Port in California. The run of 202.4 mph in the mile and a half course was on Sunday morning after a succession of licensing runs on Saturday.
“After a little bit of confusion on Saturday with the GPS speedometer being set on kilometers per hour reducing my run to just 107 mph we got the setting corrected and I worked my way up to the goal of 200 plus,” Aiken stated. “This experience is both exhilarating and terrifying at the same time!” he continued.
The runs were completed under the watchful eye of Ted Rich and Elaine Carpenter from sbktraining.com, the Phoenix based super bike school. Both Rich and Carpenter are accomplished racers and 200 MPH Club Members. The turbocharged Hyabusa race bikes are prepped at the shops of Rich.

FIN ASSISTS IN RECOVERING STOLEN 2008 YAMAHA YZF-R6 MOTORCYCLE–
Miami, FL – At 1:01AM on Sept. 29, 2016, the Find It Now GPS theft recovery team received notice of a stolen 2008 Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle. Utilizing the FIN GPS security device installed at the time of motorcycle purchase from Gables Motorsports of Miami, a FIN recovery expert was able to immediately track the stolen motorcycle, which was discovered to be moving. Specific details were relayed directly to responding law enforcement.
It became apparent that once the thief was aware that the police were chasing after him, he immediately attempted to evade; first by speeding away on the motorcycle, ultimately dumping it into a roadside ditch and fleeing into a wooded area on foot.
Responding deputies tracked and captured the thief, successfully recovering the stolen motorcycle in the process.
The FIN customer relayed that she was very impressed with FIN, and thankful to have her bike recovered. She also mentioned that she liked the fact that she could follow the location of her bike while it was transported to the impound lot, and will continue to receive alerts if it is moved for any reason.

WATCH OUT ALERT FROM THE NATIONAL MOTORISTS ASSOCIATION–
Let’s take a little quiz, one that I’ve given to a few audiences during NMA presentations.
First question: Do you feel that you are a better-than-average driver?
Second question: Would you consider enrolling in a program like Progressive’s Snapshot in which the insurance company offers a discounted premium for better drivers who agree to install a transponder in their vehicles to monitor actual driving habits?
Third question: Do you believe that the insurance company would not use that uploaded information of your driving habits to deny an accident claim if at the time of the incident you were traveling a few mph over the limit, didn’t brake in a timely fashion, or otherwise didn’t drive “appropriately?”
If you are like those audiences, almost all hands go up after Question #1. About two-thirds stay up after Question #2. Question #3 is simply followed by quite a bit of murmuring.
Progressive isn’t alone among insurance companies offering Snapshot-type programs to its customers, but it is certainly a master of marketing. To wit:
“This little device turns your safe driving into savings.”
“Snapshot fits into your car’s OBD-II port. (Most modern cars have one.) Every time you power up, Snapshot follows suit—you’ll see the lights dance and hear a beep.” (Cool)
“For each trip you take, Snapshot notes information like the time of day and how you drive, including any hard brakes. (A hard brake is a rapid deceleration—enough to make your car jerk. You’ll hear a beep, too.)” (Danger, Will Robinson, danger!)
At least with event data recorders, the black boxes that are integral to the operating system of pretty much every vehicle on the road now, the information gathered isn’t sent on a direct pipeline to your insurance company. Typically it takes a court order to allow extraction of the data by anyone other than the car owner. Or does it?
A little while ago, a member reported taking an unusual step after being in an accident that totaled his car. His insurance company contested his claim. He happened to still have an active used car dealer license and used it to buy his own wreckage at auction, regaining control of his black box just ahead of agents for – you guessed it – the insurance company.
Another member notes that, if ever involved in an accident, he will remove the event data recorder from his vehicle before some factory representative or insurance company investigator can pirate the data. Is he paranoid? No, just informed by the experience of working several years as a licensed insurance adjuster.
The moral of the story is that if information is stored, it can be taken by others. Just don’t make it so easy for your insurance company that you are handing over your driving profile willingly.

THE BANDIT’S DAYROLL DONUT SAGA–
I forgot to tell you, I did end up taking the Dayroll on my journey as I was tasked with transporting Texas contraband to Florida! I thought she was joking at first when she instructed me to bring a dozen chocolate filled Shipley’s donuts. I mentioned I was coming on a motorcycle, but was informed the two half-dozen boxes would fit, good thing she’s cute!
It did cause me to ponder how she knew this though. I was glad I had the lady put them in individual bags, as one box got slightly compressed along the way, oozing out chocolate filling. Nerves the less arriving intact.
Most of the trip I would arrive at the location where the semi heavy rains had been judging by the water on the roadsides. That however changed in Mississippi, at first I thought it would clear up and I’d just ride through it.
Finally realizing that was not to be, I pulled over and put on my “free” rain poncho I had gotten at the music festival. (Note free rain ponchos DO NOT hold up at 80 mph).
Right before the Alabama state line the rain got a bit heavier, I learned to appreciate the use of a full face helmet and the ability to see “clearly,” cracked it open a bit and kept on running!
Outside of Mobile the rain turned into a monsoon and even with the helmet it was difficult, but still able to see the taillights in front of me. The monsoon continued as I exited the tunnel headed out of Mobile towards Florida, I did notice another MC headlight a ways back. However they didn’t want to venture into the higher speeds. Finally, needing gas and with the rain too heavy to even see, I pulled over.
But after filling up and going inside to check my phone the rain lightened to nothing more then a steady flow, so I pointed the Big Black Bagger back east and took off again!
It rained the entire way to my destination. But by the time I got off I-10 and made my way towards the coast the sun came out, I dried out, except for the boots and gloves. And to my surprise, everything in the Bandits Dayroll was still dry.
Return trip was sunny the entire way and I found my rain gear, on the shelf in front of where the bike sits! Not in storage where I had been looking, oh well!

Opuscule entered English in the mid-1600s from French, and finds its roots in the Latin noun opus meaning “work.”

The Gospel Music Association hosted the 47th Annual Dove Awards last night at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena in Nashville. Country Music Hall of Fame member Jimmy Fortune took home the award for “Bluegrass Recorded Song of the Year” for the track “Life’s Railway to Heaven,” which features legendary quartet The Oak Ridge Boys.
The song was featured on Fortune’s latest critically-acclaimed album Hits & Hymns, which became the Gospel Music Hall of Fame singer’s first solo top ten project on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.
“I’m extremely honored and humbled to win my first Dove award, and sharing the win with my friends The Oak Ridge Boys makes it even more special,” said Fortune. “To be recognized by the Gospel Music Association is one of the biggest moments of my life. I will treasure it forever, and I thank God for the opportunity to do this project with producer Ben Isaacs and the Gaither Music Group community.”
“The Oak Ridge Boys were at a sound check at Renfro Valley, Ken., about twenty years ago when, out of the blue, we started singing ‘Life’s Railway To Heaven,’” said Duane Allen, of The Oak Ridge Boys. “It felt so good we added it to the show that night. Since then, the song has become a regular part of our shows, so it seemed natural when Jimmy Fortune asked us to record it with him for his latest album. Now… we’re humbled and honored to hear that it has won a Dove Award. Congratulations Jimmy! Thank you for inviting us to be a part of the magic.”
Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) will exclusively air the awards show on Sunday, Oct. 16. The GMA Dove Awards celebrate the contributions of artists from every style of Christian/Gospel music. Nominees are determined by over 1,600 professional members, and winners are voted on by the entire GMA membership of nearly 2,500.
