Can-Am Ryker: A Small and Agile Three-Wheeler

The all new 2024 version is out and about by Ujjwal Dey The first thing you notice about the 2024 Can-Am Ryker is of course that it is advertised as a “three-wheeled motorcycle.” For those who love and ride motorcycles, there is no such thing. You got one wheel too many to call it a motorcycle. The name Ryker is not of Biblical origin nor a Bavarian legend. It is a silly portmanteau on “Ride”-“Biker” with a “Y” replacing it to re-invent the three-wheeled thing called “Ryker.” Plus, it rhymes with Can-Am Spyder. Proposed new regulations for Autocycles in Massachusetts

Proposed new regulations for 3-wheel autocycles from https://www.bostonherald.com by Boston Herald Wire Services Proposed regulations of autocycles will be on the schedule when Massachusetts lawmakers hold a virtual public hearing Tuesday. An autocycle is a three-wheeled motor vehicle that meets federal safety standards for a motorcycle. Unlike motorcycles, however, autocycles typically include a steering wheel, a seat for the driver and occasionally seats for passengers. The driver and passengers are not required to straddle the vehicle like a motorcycle. One of the bills under consideration would create new safety measures for autocycles including requiring the driver and passengers to wear helmets, requiring autocycle manufacturers to equip the vehicles with safety belts which must be worn by drivers and passengers, and barring children under eight from riding in one. Anyone who operates an autocycle without wearing a safety helmet or safety belts would face a fine of no less than $25 under the bill. Daymak says it’s making the world’s fastest three-wheeled EV

by Kris Holt from https://ca.news.yahoo.com If you’re in the market to buy a three-wheeled car that can go from zero to 60mph in 1.8 seconds, then, goodness, does Daymak have the electric vehicle for you. The company is crowdfunding the Spiritus, a two-seater EV that apparently “rides like a go-kart.” It’s hoping to reach 50,000 pre-orders for the vehicle, which has solar panels for trickle charging and a regeneration system, as well as Daymak’s own wireless charger. Plunking down a $100 deposit will lock in a pre-order and guarantee you a lower price when the EV actually goes on sale. You might need that if you opt for the Ultimate model, which offers the aforementioned zippy acceleration. It starts at $149,000 and has a range of 480km. According to Daymak, it’ll be the fastest three-wheeled car in the world. The Deluxe version has a more modest 300km range, and it starts at $19,995. As for the design, it looks like Bruce Wayne frankensteined a Batmobile and a Batcycle together. The crowdfunding campaign is scheduled to end on July 23rd. Production should start in 2023. The Spiritus is one of six vehicles in Daymak’s Avvenire Series. The others include Terra, an ebike designed for on- and off-road use, and Skyrider, which the company describes as “a high-performance EV capable of flying.”

Chinese Startup NIU Reveals U.S-Bound Electric Motorcycle, Three-Wheeled Scooter

by Mircea Panait from https://www.autoevolution.com Harley-Davidson isn’t trailblazing the industry with the LiveWire electric motorcycle. Two-wheeled vehicles with e-propulsion are huge in China and a few other places around the world, but the Middle Kingdom takes the lion’s share in terms of volume. More than 30 million units are sold in the People’s Republic each year, and this causes a little bit of chaos in the urban jungle. Major cities such as Beijing and Taiwan have banned e-scooters in 2016 along with segways, but nevertheless, business is good. So good in fact, a startup called NIU decided to showcase two models at the CES 2020 for the U.S. market. Not to be confused with Chinese automaker NIO, the company plans to roll out the RQi-GT electric motorcycle and TQi-GT covered three-wheeler to places like San Francisco, San Diego, Austin, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and even Honolulu. NIU first landed in the United States with a fleet of 1,000 mopeds in Brooklyn as part of a partnership with Revel. The mopeds in question feature 60 and 80 miles or range, respectively, Panasonic batteries, and up to 3,800 watts of get-up-and-go from the e-motor. Billed as an urban performance motorcycle, the RQi-GT is capable of 160 km/h (100 miles per hour) from 30 kW and two removable batteries with a total capacity of 6.5 kWh. In other words, riders can expect up to 130 kilometers (80 miles) in one go. Thanks to that kind of range, the RQi-GT has the makings of an interesting commuter mobile. Next up, the TQi-GT is a little more special because it’s the manufacturer’s first self-balancing electric three-wheeler. As if that kind of technological wizardry wasn’t enough, look forward to autonomous driving (or riding?) functionalities such as self parking. The TQi-GT comes in second in terms of top
