Brough Superior Revival

By General Posts

It’s exactly ten years on since the born-again Brough Superior brand’s first all-new model, a modern take on the legendary SS100 launched 100 years ago this year as the world’s first street-legal Superbike, was unveiled at the 2013 EICMA Milan Show.

The new Brough Superior motorcycle models build upon the brand’s legendary heritage and craftsmanship to transcend to a level of quality that is unmatched in the world of luxury machines.

Brough is revolutionizing the luxury motorcycle industry by combining timeless design and an exclusive patented engine with state-of-the-art technology.

The current Brough Superior motorcycle models – SS100, Pendine, Anniversary and Lawrence -are 100% French-made collectors’ motorcycles that combine luxury, passion and performance. Made by the most skilled craftsmen, each Brough Superior motorcycle is created with expertise, authenticity and innovation to offer its rider best-in-class power and maximum handling.

Brough Superior motorcycles: the price of excellence
No wonder they’ve been dubbed the “Rolls-Royce of motorcycles.” Brough Superior has been continually raising the bar for sophistication, luxury and an unparalleled riding experience since its inception!

As early as the 1920s, the SS100 broke records for the world’s fastest motorcycle at 191.59 km/h (approx. 119 mph), which a century ago was extraordinary. At the time, Brough Superior motorcycles were renowned for their excellent custom details and performance.

The brand has continued to uphold its standards and its prestige; to this day, each Brough Superior receives full-on custom treatment from fender to fender to meet the needs and desires of its future rider.

The high-end price is proof, if any were needed, that this is, indeed, an elite luxury machine. Brough Superior’s workshops produce limited numbers of meticulously handcrafted models – just over 3,000 machines have been produced in 20 years – making each model even more iconic.

French-based company has established an enviable reputation for excellence of design and leading edge engineering coupled with quality of manufacture, which has latterly resulted in its successful joint venture with the equally historic four-wheeled British brand, Aston Martin. This has seen all 100 examples of the turbocharged AMB 001 styled by Aston Martin and both engineered and built by Brough Superior sold out in a matter of weeks despite a €108,000 (US$119,000) price tag, while Brough’s own products have meantime acquired a healthy clientele of discerning owners across the globe, reportedly with a waiting list to join them.

Brough Superior Lawrence / Original Pillion Motorcycle

The latest addition to Brough Superior’s French workshop, Lawrence is the ultimate 21st century pillion motorcycle. Its luxurious aesthetics were inspired by the sleek, flowing curve of the traditional Bedouin dagger used by Lawrence of Arabia – the man who helped bring this brand its legendary status and who also inspired this eponymous motorcycle.

This revolutionary, hand-crafted, custom two-seater features a revamped retro design that is an ode to the brand’s past. Designed for two riders who want to share in their passion, primmed to hit the road with their adventurous partner.

This motorcycle exhibits superior quality, down to the last screw, thanks to the exceptional knowledge and skill used for its traditional artisanal production. This new model represents a major milestone for Brough Superior. It is handcrafted by the finest French artisans and incorporates state-of-the-art engineering and innovative materials.

Lawrence is a customizable, high-end pillion motorcycle that can be tailored to its future owner’s specifications.

A new Brough model is named after the An Nefud desert in what is today northern Saudi Arabia, which was the springboard for the 1917 capture by the Arabs of the Red Sea port of Aqaba, nowadays in Jordan. This was the greatest victory in the Arab Revolt of WW1 against the Turkish Ottoman Empire, and it was masterminded by Brough Superior fanatic (he owned seven such bikes in succession!)

T.E. Lawrence – better known to movie fans the world over as Lawrence of Arabia, in whose memory Henriette conceived the Lawrence model two years ago.

A Tale of Twisted Fates of Artisans

Deus Ex Machina was arguably the most popular and most impressive global brand for custom built motorcycles.

Deus Ex Machina was built upon the development and creation of custom motorcycles. A clothing line got added for those fans of the brand who found it more satisfactory to order a Deus tee-shirt. This motorbike brand is now a luxury apparel handling the biggest names in fashion, peddling dreams to people, nay, to the masses.

“Deus Ex Machina makes high-end motorcycles and loses money on each one” announced the newspapers.

“That’s why we make clothing,” said Deus founder and owner Dare Jennings in that news report. “Otherwise, we’d go broke.”

How could this be true? Why would one of the most successful and iconic custom motorcycle brand of the 21st century lose thousands of dollars on every bike they sell?

Luxury E-Motorcycle from Curtiss

By General Posts

by Otilia Drăgan from https://www.autoevolution.com

Forget about any other electric motorcycle you’ve seen. Curtiss Motorcycles tosses all preconceived notions aside, to bring the slimmest, most balanced and unique luxury e-motorcycle out there. If you were still waiting for the One, this could be it.

Known for its exquisite designs, Curtiss is teasing a new model that breaks a lot of taboos when it comes to electric motorcycles. Tantalizingly-named The opposite of death (a literary reference pointing to this new model being the object of desire), the teaser shows a uniquely-looking bike that seems to float effortlessly, while also exuding maximum confidence.

What is the one? Something that is a perfect fit for you and something that becomes one with you. With a 20% lower center-of-gravity and a width that is reduced by 45%, this incredibly slim bike is truly ergonomic, easy-to-mount and comfortable, making you feel integrated with it. The lower seat and increased ground clearance keep you perfectly balanced on the road.

Puristic reductionism is not an abstract notion here, but the very core of this bike’s design. The One is completely stripped – no transmission, no shifting, no clutch. Power is sent straight from the engine to the rear wheel via the belt drive, and you are directly connected to the bike.

As Curtiss designer JT Nesbitt puts it, the space in your mind that was previously focused on managing the combustion engine, and overpowered by the noise and the heat of it, is now free to enjoy everything else. No more noise, no more overheating, just pure control and precision.

And, speaking of purity, you gotta love these guys’ boldness – in an era where everybody is pushing the connectivity button, Curtiss just tosses digitalization away, calling it a distraction from the riding experience. That’s right – forget about the screen and focus on the One.

In order to obtain the slimmest and lightest chassis possible (it only weighs 425 lbs/193 kg), the One combines an aircraft-inspired TLP monocoque with several other proprietary technologies, including a liquid-cooled Power Pak battery and a unique power train. Add to that race-proven front and rear suspension, premium Beringer disc brakes, and you’ve got a powerful bike that can deliver a peak output of 120 HP and 199 Nm of torque.

No official launch date is yet confirmed for the One, but be ready to pay $90,000 for it. The perfect match doesn’t come cheap.

Curtiss Electric Motorcycle Is Born

By General Posts

by Florina Spînu from https://www.autoevolution.com

Company formerly known as Confederate Motors has introduced their electric luxury motorcycle.

One way or another, the future will be electric. With the debut of Harley-Davidson’s new LiveWire EV-only brand, more and more motorcycles will take on the trend. For Curtiss Motorcycles, luxury marries electrification in a ride. On that note, the brand just rolled out a trailer that showcases the beginning of its new “golden age” of electric motorcycles.

We know that retro-bikes will never lose their charm, and Curtiss Motorcycles seem to combine the vintage look with modern convenience. Formerly known as Confederate Motors, the Alabama-based brand has a rich history dating back to 1907, when Glenn Curtiss set an unofficial world record of 136 mph (219 kph), on a 40 hp (30 kW) V8-powered motorcycle designed and built by himself in Florida.

Sharing the name with its famous aviation pioneer ancestor, the brand tried to keep its heritage and implement it into their bikes, but with a twist. Along with the production of its all-electric motorcycle Curtiss One, it started a path toward electrification with all its future rides.

Titled “Green, Clean, Mod, Cool: A New Age,” the trailer explains the brands’ philosophical narrative as well as Curtiss One, the company’s not only first precision-centered motorcycle, but also its new platform architecture that will serve as the foundation for all its future motorcycles.

Ergonomics played a key role in the making process of the One. Inspired by an aircraft, its core is connected by a 39mm hard-steel axle. Its only moving parts are the oversized output shaft and its wheels. By keeping the radially organized battery cells submerged in coolant, the Curtiss Power Pak acts as a radiator for the whole system.

The bike has no transmission or gearbox. Instead, the power moves directly from its liquid-cooled Axial Flux motor to the rear wheel through a toothed belt drive. There’s no shifting and no clutch involved. Instead, the speed is determined solely by how hard you twist the throttle. The 425 lbs (193 kg) ride has enough juice to deliver 217 hp and 272 lb-ft torque.

Pricing for the Curtiss One starts at $81,000, which marks a pretty high score on the affordability scale. That said, Curtiss Motorcycles aims to bring out Curtiss Two and Curtiss Three in 2022 and 2023, all based on the architecture of the One (and the cost will probably match too).

An Aston Martin motorcycle will grace the world soon enough

By General Posts

by Sean Szymkowski from https://www.cnet.com
by Luke Wilkinson from https://www.autoexpress.co.uk

The bike will be a collaboration between the automaker and Brough Superior.

Aston Martin is prepared to dive into the world of motorcycles, thanks to a collaborative effort between it and storied British motorcycle maker, Brough Superior.

Motorcycle fans will see the Aston Martin badge grace a two-wheeled contraption for the first time next month when the automaker and motorcycle maker unveil a carefully crafted bike. Aston Martin said Thursday the first motorcycle coming to life will debut at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy, on Nov. 5.

Details are, obviously, absent for now. However, the British carmaker underscored that it tapped into its decades of engineering and design expertise to help Brough Superior craft something only the two companies could create. It’s something of a passion project, too, as Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman and Brough Superior CEO Thierry Henriette are both motorcycle enthusiasts.

“The opportunity to collaborate with Brough Superior has given us the chance to bring our own unique views on how beauty and engineering can combine to create a highly emotive piece of vehicle design,” Reichman said of the project in a statement.

Aston Martin has continuously expanded its reach, and the upcoming motorcycle is the latest branch sprung from the British automaker. The company has plans for not one, but three mid-engine supercars in the near future, and a resurrected Lagonda brand will handle luxury electric vehicles. A DBX luxury SUV will also launch in the coming months.

We’ll see the limited-edition motorcycle in a couple of weeks and I expected it to be nothing but a grand piece of transportation.

Aston Martin and historic British motorcycle manufacturer Brough Superior will unveil a new motorcycle this November

Aston Martin has announced a new partnership with the iconic British motorcycle manufacturer Brough Superior, which will see the pair produce a limited edition two-wheeled project for this year’s EICMA Milan Motorcycle Show. The finished article will be unveiled on 5 November.

Details on the British brands’ collaborative project remain sparse but, given Brough Superior’s heritage, we expect the finished bike will be powered by a V-Twin engine. Judging by the sole teaser image released so far, it should also adopt a more contemporary design than Brough Superior’s current range of motorcycles.

Aston Martin and Brough Superior’s limited edition motorcycle will probably feature fairings for handlebars and engine, rather than the naked design employed by the latter brand’s current Pendine Sand Racer and Super Sports 100 models. The project will also mark the first time Aston Martin’s badge will appear on a motorcycle.

Aston Martin’s Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman, said: “The opportunity to collaborate with Brough Superior has given us the chance to bring our own unique views on how beauty and engineering can combine to create a highly emotive piece of vehicle design. We’re excited about the end result and can’t wait to see the reaction the motorcycle receives when it is revealed.”

Brough Superior was established in Nottingham in 1919, by George Brough. Throughout the early 20th Century, the brand produced the world’s fastest and most expensive performance motorcycles – such as the 1924 SS100, which was comfortably capable of reaching 100mph and cost the equivalent of £10,000 in today’s money.
