Harley-Davidson is presenting sponsor of AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legends recognition for Mert Lawwill

  Harley-Davidson, whose motorcycles helped write the history of American dirt-track racing, will be the presenting sponsor of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame's Legends recognition for Mert Lawwill. Lawwill, a 1998 inductee, will be honored at the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa in Las Vegas, Nev.  Each year during the induction ceremony for the new class of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, existing members of the Hall of Fame are recognized as Legends. The 2012 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legends are Lawwill, the 1969 AMA Grand National Champion, and 1998 inductee Malcolm Smith, a pioneer in off-road motorcycling. Both Lawwill and Smith starred in the timeless motorcycling documentary "On Any Sunday." The pair will be introduced on stage by the director of that movie — and a Hall of Famer himself — Bruce Brown.  "The iconic images of motorcycling seen in 'On Any Sunday' were instrumental in bringing generations of new riders into the sport and continue to resonate with riders today," said Scott Miller, Harley-Davidson Vice-President of Parts, Accessories and Customization and an AMA board member. Third-Quarter Report and Nine-Month Results For Harley-Davidson

Third-Quarter profits fall 27 percent Harley-Davidson, Inc. (HOG) reported earnings per share of $0.59 for the third quarter of 2012, in line with Company expectations. Earnings were lower than the year-ago period due to a previously announced plan for lower third-quarter motorcycle shipments during the launch of an ERP production system at the Company's largest assembly plant. For the full year 2012, Harley-Davidson continues to forecast a five-to seven-percent increase in motorcycle shipments compared to 2011. Third-quarter income from continuing operations was $134.0 million on consolidated revenue of $1.25 billion, compared to income from continuing operations of $183.6 million, or $0.78 per share, on consolidated revenue of $1.40 billion in the year-ago quarter. Through nine months, Harley-Davidson income from continuing operations increased 12.1 percent year-over-year to $553.3 million, or $2.40 per share, on consolidated revenue of $4.41 billion, compared to income from continuing operations of $493.4 million, or $2.09 per share, on consolidated revenue of $4.13 billion in the year-ago period. Krawiec Beats Hines In An All-Harley NHRA Final At St. Louis

Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines rider Ed Krawiec widened his Pro Stock Motorcycle points lead with his seventh win of the season, defeating his teammate Andrew Hines in the final round of the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park. It was the fifth all-Harley final of the season, and Krawiec won for the fourth time when Hines left the starting line early. The result puts the Harley-Davidson team back on track after its 13-racing winning streak was snapped last weekend in Charlotte, where both Hines and Krawiec lost in the semi-final round. “Our team focus is back on winning races, rather than on the winning streak,” said Krawiec, the defending NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion, who debuted a Hard Candy Pink Flake paint scheme and leathers at Gateway that he will run during the next two races in October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “The Screamin’ Eagle team really had to work hard with my Harley-Davidson® V-Rod®  all weekend after we had transmission trouble in the fourth round of qualifying. The transmission skipped a gear again in the first round today and we would have lost if my opponent had not fouled. The third engine of the weekend got me to the finals.” Krawiec now holds a 33-point lead over Hines after three of six races in the Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Krawiec qualified third for the event with an Elapsed Time of 6.839 seconds. Hines qualified fourth at 6.862. Coolbeth Is Eighth On Factory Harley At Santa Rosa Mile

  Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle® Factory Team rider Kenny Coolbeth placed eighth in the AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship race on the Santa Rosa Mile at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. The race was won by South East Harley-Davidson rider Sammy Halbert on a Harley-Davidson®  XR750 motorcycle. Halbert was the fastest qualifier for the 25-lap main, but it was Crosley Radio Kawasaki rider Bryan Smith who took the lead on the opening lap and appeared headed for a run-away victory after stretching his advantage to 4.9-seconds over Halbert on lap 14. But a few laps later, Smith began to falter as track conditions changed, and Halbert and Rogers Racing/Blue Springs Harley-Davidson rider Jared Mees reeled him in. Halbert passed for the lead on lap 20, and Mees got by Smith on lap 21. Mees and Halbert battled in the closing laps, with Halbert finally winning by 0.874 seconds. Smith held off Zanotti Racing/Schaeffer`s Harley-Davison rider Jake Johnson to salvage a third-place spot on the podium, 3.726 seconds behind Halbert. Eaken Racing rider Robert Pearson was fifth on a Harley-Davidson. Coolbeth opened the race in 12th place, and moved up to eighth on lap 16. “I spun out on the start and ended up way back on the first lap,” said Coolbeth. “The track was a little rough and very dusty, so we could hardly see on the straights, and it was really tough to pass. This was not a typical mile track.” Halbert also won the four-lap Dash for Cash sprint bonus race. After 14 of 16 AMA Grand National events, Mees leads the series with 262 points. Krawiec And Hines Take Harley To Semi-Finals At Dallas

  Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines rider Ed Krawiec leads the Pro Stock Motorcycle points standings after advancing to the semi-final round of eliminations at the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex, the second event in the six-race Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Krawiec has an 11-point lead over his teammate, Andrew Hines, who also advanced to the semi-finals at theTexas event. Michael Ray defeated Karen Stoffer in the final, the first of the season not to feature at least one of the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle riders, as the team’s winning streak came to end after 13 consecutive NHRA events dating back to 2011. “It’s been almost a calendar year since there wasn’t a Harley-Davidson® V-Rod®  rider on the winner’s podium,” said Hines. “We can look back on this streak with pride. We may never do it again, but it’s a string of success we will always remember.” Krawiec (6.887 seconds) and Hines (6.892 seconds), racing Harley-Davidson® V-Rod® motorcycles finished in dazzling metalflake Hard Candy paint, qualified third and fourth, respectively, for the event. Barnes Wins AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Race at Homestead-Miami

  KLR Group/Spyke’s Harley-Davidson rider Michael Barnes won his second AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 series race of the season Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a day after his teammate Kyle Wyman’s season come to a disappointing end after a qualifying crash.   Barnes battled polesitter Tyler O’Hara (Bartels’ H-D/Scrubblade) and Travis Wyman (Harv’s Harley-Davidson), who rounded out the podium spots, along with Suburban Motors H-D’s Benjamin Carlson and MOB Racing’s Jake Holden throughout the 11-lap contest. After leading the third and fourth laps of the race, Barnes fell back to third behind O’Hara and Wyman, who traded the lead for the next several laps. But on lap ten, Barnes picked off Wyman for second, setting up a decisive move for the lead and eventual win on the final lap, when he passed O’Hara on the back straight. With yellow flags out for a crashed rider on the last lap, Barnes was able to hold that lead through the final few corners and fend off O’Hara’s late draft-pass attempt at the start/finish line by 0.132 second. “It’s been a real emotional rollercoaster weekend with Kyle getting hurt yesterday,” Barnes said. “It affected the whole team but it made us dig that much deeper, and I know Travis was digging deeper for his brother out there too. He was riding hard. It was hard to out-brake him, but I needed to get by Travis in order to get by Tyler.
