Royal Enfield celebrates first ever Half-Mile Victory

By General Posts

Lewis bested the AFT Production Twins field in dominating fashion.

Milwaukee, Wis (Tuesday, June 29, 2021) – Round seven of the 2021 Progressive American Flat Track Championship proved to be a historic moment for Royal Enfield, as Johnny Lewis and the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield Team were the class of the field on Saturday evening at the Allen County Fairgrounds in Lima, Ohio. The win marked the team’s first victory since the Daytona I Short Track, and the first-ever Half-Mile win for Royal Enfield and the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield Team.

“This weekend gave us the opportunity to showcase what the Royal Enfield Twins FT is capable of,” said Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield rider Johnny Lewis. “The team has been working extremely hard every time out to improve the motorcycle and this result reflects all the effort we’ve put into the program. We couldn’t be happier with this achievement. Thank you to Royal Enfield, the team and all our supporters for backing us.”

Lewis got out to a decent start in the main event but had to work his way into the lead, which took him less than a minute to do. From there, Lewis simply dominated the field, leaving the competition to battle over second as he stretched his lead. A red flag (due to a downed rider) with less than two minutes remaining prompted a restart, and once again Lewis had to make some passes to get out front, but he simply powered his Royal Enfield Twins FT around the outside, reclaiming the lead and taking the checkered flag.

Johnny Lewis’ win at Lima, Ohio comes after a steady season of progress with the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield Team. Following some flashes of brilliance aboard the Twins FT in the 2021 season, Lewis and the team knew they had the engine to be competitive, and worked on fine-tuning the chassis with their focus specifically on the Half-Mile. The classic venue at Lima, Ohio—the only cushion Half-Mile on the American Flat Track schedule—was the perfect stage for this significant victory for Royal Enfield.

“This historic win came at the right moment for the team, for Johnny and Royal Enfield,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing and Communications Lead – Royal Enfield Americas. “We started the season with a new crew led by David Lloyd and have been looking for our first win at a Half-Mile. We look forward to continuing our development and seeing Johnny progress even more throughout the 2021 American Flat Track season.”

Lewis and the Moto Anatomy X Royal Enfield team will be back in action on Saturday, July 24, at the Port Royale Half-Mile in New York. They will be joined by the Royal Enfield BUILD TRAIN RACE (BTR) program as the ladies are looking toward their next exhibition race at the same venue.

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE racing TAKES BACK-TO-BACK WINS AT VOLUSIA HALF-MILE DOUBLEHEADER

Indian Motorcycle Privateer Brandon Robinson & Wrecking Crew Rider Jared Mees Win Back-to-Back at Volusia Half-Mile I & II, Respectively

MINNEAPOLIS (March 16, 2021) – Indian Motorcycle Racing, presented by Progressive Motorcycle Insurance, jumped out to an early lead in the 2021 American Flat Track (AFT) SuperTwins standings, as Indian Motorcycle Privateer Brandon Robinson and Wrecking Crew Rider Jared Mees secure back-to-back wins at the Volusia Half-Mile doubleheader.

Robinson’s season-opener win at Volusia Half-Mile I marked his third straight victory, dating back to the 2020 season finale doubleheader in Daytona. After winning his semi and getting a start on the front row in the Main, Robinson jumped out to an early lead but was battling with the second-place rider throughout the race. In his third season as an Indian Motorcycle privateer, the win marks Robinson’s fifth victory aboard the Indian FTR750.

“Despite being injured for the bulk of the 2020 season, Brandon finished the year with incredible momentum, so it was truly exciting to see him pick up right where he left off and reach the top of the box,” said Gary Gray, Vice President – Racing, Technology & Service for Indian Motorcycle. “Having swept the Volusia Half-Mile doubleheader last year, Jared entered round two with fierce determination to secure the win and garner the all-important points at a track he’s exceptionally comfortable and confident on.”

On Saturday, Mees won his semi and was able to return to the front row for the Main. Though, it was Wrecking Crew teammate and defending SuperTwins Champion Briar Bauman who captured the holeshot. After leading eight laps, Bauman was unable to hold on, as Mees made his pass and gained separation with every lap – ultimately cruising comfortably to his 54th career win. The victory also marked his 34th career win aboard the Indian FTR750, a race bike he won two Grand National Championships with in 2017 and 2018.

Following the doubleheader at Volusia Speedway Park, Mees sits atop the leaderboard with 42 points. Robinson is closely behind with 39 points, while Bauman’s fourth and second-place finishes keep him within striking distance with 35 total points.

The 2021 AFT season continues on May 1 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Atlanta Super TT. For more information on Indian Motorcycle Racing and the Indian Wrecking Crew, visit IndianMotorcycle.com or follow along on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.

Flat Track: Johnny Lewis extends relationship with Royal Enfield

Johnny Lewis continues with Royal Enfield through 2021

Milwaukee, Wis (January 12, 2021) Royal Enfield is pleased to announce Johnny Lewis’ Moto Anatomy organization will continue to campaign the Twins FT in Progressive American Flat Track (AFT) through 2021. After the program’s successful first season, which saw Lewis win during the Progressive AFT Finale in Daytona, the team will continue developing the Twins FT package for the AFT Production Twins class. Veteran flat track crew chief, former team owner and tuner David Lloyd will join Lewis and add depth and experience to the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield team.

Lewis and Royal Enfield announced the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield team in early 2020, with the intention of developing the Twin FT for AFT’s Production Twins class. The motorcycle was created in conjunction with Royal Enfield’s technical partner Harris Performance, a renowned road racing chassis builder in the U.K. Despite the late start to the AFT season, Lewis and Royal Enfield immediately achieved competitive results with a relatively untested platform. By the conclusion of the season, the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield team found its stride, finishing first and second respectively during the AFT Finale I and II in Daytona.

“Johnny Lewis has proven to be a valuable development partner and race winner for Royal Enfield,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing Lead – Royal Enfield Americas. “Royal Enfield is excited to solidify its future with Lewis and continue building upon the foundation created in 2020. The 2021 season is not far away, and while there is still work to be done, the team progressed quickly in just a few months, finishing the year with a win and second place in Daytona. We’re thrilled to get back to racing.”

Lewis recently completed the Progressive AFT Dunlop Tire Test at the Volusia Half-Mile as the team continues to gather critical data for the 2021 season. Lewis was able to complete more than 100 laps over the course of the two-day test with a new motor package. Decorated flat track team owner and crew chief David Lloyd will assist Lewis in 2021, as the team looks to further develop the Twins FT package. Lloyd brings more than 35 years of professional racing experience to the team and has developed competitive packages to multiple manufacturers.

“Our results in 2020 proved that we have the package to be a competitive team in the AFT Production Twins class,” said Johnny Lewis, Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield racer and team owner. “I’m looking forward to building our relationship further with Royal Enfield. Now that the team’s future has been secured, it’s time to get to work. From top to bottom, the support from Royal Enfield has been fantastic and I’m looking forward to delivering more results for Royal Enfield in 2021.”

Lewis will continue development on the Twins FT at his Center Hill, Fla facility in the lead-up to the yet-to-be-announced Progressive AFT season opener. To relive Lewis’ inaugural campaign with Royal Enfield, click here to watch episodes documenting the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield 2020 season.

FLAT TRACK AMATEUR JILLIAN DESCHENES WINS BTR ROUND ONE IN ATLANTA

The four BUILD TRAIN RACE participants raced for the first time at Dixie Speedway

Milwaukee, Wis October 8, 2020: After months of building and training, the four participants of BUILD TRAIN RACE put their skills on display on Friday and Saturday of the Progressive American Flat Track event at Dixie Speedway. Minnesota amateur flat track racer Jillian Deschenes took the checkered flag for both races followed by Melissa Paris, Lana MacNaughton and alternate rider Kerry Sano.

During the weekend the participants were able to spectate the AFT classes and then test their abilities on the same track at Dixie Speedway. The women raced on custom INT 650 motorcycles that they themselves built as part of the year-long program. Under the mentorship of Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield team owner and racer, Johnny Lewis, the four women were able to progress their flat track acumen during multiple training sessions leading up to the Atlanta Short Track event.

“Atlanta was an amazing experience to be part of with the BTR crew,” said amateur racer and hospice nurse Jillian Deschenes. “The track was well maintained and larger than anything I had ever ridden before. I was excited to debut my INT 650 build in front of a crowd that large. I’m grateful for the opportunities Royal Enfield has given me as an amateur female flat track rider and creating a program like BTR for myself and other female motorcyclists to participate in. I’m looking forward to the next AFT event in Daytona Beach.”

“The team at Royal Enfield is proud of the effort these women have put into the BUILD TRAIN RACE program,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing Lead for Royal Enfield Americas. “2020 threw many challenges at all of us and we’re pleased that the women were able to finally showcase the motorcycles they built in a racing environment. From everyone at Royal Enfield, we want to say thank you to American Flat Track for providing a venue and platform to highlight the power of female motorcyclists in a male-dominated industry.”

The results were similar for both Friday and Saturdays races with Jillian Deschenes’ district 23 flat track experience showed immediately, followed by road racer and Moto America team owner Melissa Paris. Women’s Moto Exhibit founder Lana MacNaughton finished third while Kerry Sano, New York repair shop owner and alternate rider for Canadian builder Andrea Lothrop rounded out the field in fourth. Throughout the weekend the ladies consistently increased their pace and made continuous improvements to their built INT 650 motorcycles looking for additional speed.

The participants of the BUILD TRAIN RACE program will compete again in two weeks during the AFT Finale at Daytona Beach in a similar format to Atlanta Short Track. Two new riders will be joining the BUILD TRAIN RACE team in Florida. Malary Lee of Texas will be riding Lana MacNaughton’s INT 650, while Trisha Dahl of Minnesota will be riding Andrea Lothrop’s motorcycle this round. Ahead of the event, the ladies will participate in a final training session with Lewis at his Center Hill, Fla. facility. Due to the immense interest in the program, Royal Enfield may consider adding four new riders to the program for 2021.

Stay tuned to the Royal Enfield social media channels for more information and updates on the BULD TRAIN RACE program in the lead up the AFT season finale in Daytona.

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE RACING WINS FOURTH CONSECUTIVE MANUFACTURER’S CHAMPIONSHIP WITH WRECKING CREW SWEEP AT ATLANTA SHORT TRACK I

Wrecking Crew Rider Jared Mees Narrows the Season Standings with Back-to-Back Wins

ATLANTA (October 6, 2020) – Indian Motorcycle Racing, presented by Progressive Motorcycle Insurance, and its championship-winning FTR750 clinched its fourth consecutive Manufacturer’s Championship. Fittingly, Indian Motorcycle secured the championship with a Wrecking Crew podium sweep at Atlanta Short Track I.

Wrecking Crew Rider Jared Mees narrowed the season standings with back-to-back wins at the Atlanta doubleheader. Joining Mees on the Atlanta Short Track I podium was reigning AFT Grand National Champion and Wrecking Crew Rider Briar Bauman and Wrecking Crew Rider Bronson Bauman. The bar-to-bar battle between Briar and Mees saw Mees take a final pass on the final lap through turn four to cross the finish line just .308 seconds before Briar. Bronson completed the Wrecking Crew sweep as he earned his first podium of the 2020 season by charging his way from the middle of the pack and making several passes in the final laps of the Main.

“It’s been incredible to see our team compete at a consistent level and again bring home the Manufacturer’s Championship for the fourth straight year,” said Gary Gray, Vice President – Racing, Technology and Service for Indian Motorcycle. “With four races remaining, we’re excited to see who can walk away with the No. 1 plate. Briar’s been hot and Mees hates to lose, so we should be in a dramatic and entertaining finish to the season.”

Atlanta Short Track II continued the dramatic, bar-to-bar racing from the night before, as Indian Motorcycle Privateer Brandon Price held Mees off as long as he could, coming up just short as Mees made his pass with only a few laps remaining. Price’s second-place finished earned him his first podium of the season, while Briar rounded out the all-FTR750 podium with a third-place finish.

With 244 points, Mees is firmly in second and now just 12 points back from Briar, who has 256 points on the year. With a pair of fourth-place finishes in Atlanta, Indian Motorcycle Privateer Sammy Halbert remains in third with 193 points, while Bronson Bauman and Price are fourth and fifth with 153 and 148 points, respectively.

The 2020 American Flat Track season will continue on October 9-10 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Progressive Charlotte Half-Mile I & II. For more information on Indian Motorcycle Racing, visit IndianMotorcycle.com and follow along on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Build Train Race participants to compete at Atlanta Short Track

BUILD TRAIN RACE WOMEN TO RACE AT ATLANTA FLAT TRACK

Participants will race during exhibition

Milwaukee, Wis October 2, 2020: Royal Enfield’s BUILD TRAIN RACE program participants will race for the first time at Atlanta Short Track at Dixie Speedway during the Progressive American Flat Track races this weekend. Road racer Melissa Paris, amateur flat tracker Jillian Deschenes, photographer Lana MacNaughton and New York motorcycle repair shop owner Kerry Sano will compete against one another in an eight lap Main.

BUILD TRAIN RACE was launched in late 2019 with the goal of involving women in a competitive flat track program. The program tasked four women with building four custom INT 650 motorcycles for flat track competition, then training with Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield AFT racer Johnny Lewis in the lead up to competition. Originally, the women were set to race in several events this year, but due to COVID-19 the events were either rescheduled or canceled.

“It has been a long wait for these ladies to get on track,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing Lead for Royal Enfield Americas. “They’re ready to put their INT 650s and themselves to the test this weekend. We are thrilled that American Flat Track offered us the opportunity to show off these custom motorcycles, but to also give these ladies the opportunity to put their flat track skills to the test. They have all received training from Lewis and now it’s up to them to apply what they’ve learned in a racing environment.”

Lewis trained the three of participants in two sessions as part of his Royal Enfield Slide School By Moto Anatomy course, his proprietary flat track training program. Working with Lewis, each woman received one-on-one training to further their flat track skills. Sano, who is substitute riding Andrea Lothrop’s motorcycle, attended a Slide School with Lewis earlier this month. Unfortunately, Lothrop is still unable to travel from Canada to compete. The women will then take part in a practice session, qualifying and main during the Atlanta Short Track AFT both on Friday and Saturday.

Lewis will be on hand to support the women and provide coaching, but elected to sit out this round of AFT competition. The Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield team continues the development of the Twins FT and decided to use this week to collaborate further with technical partners to progress the Royal Enfield motor package.

Stay tuned to Royal Enfield’s social channels to follow along with the BTR ladies throughout the weekend.

Johnny Lewis gears up for Dallas Half-Mile / Williams Grove Video Recap

Royal Enfield Twins FT Heads to Texas

Johnny Lewis aims to continue development at the Dallas Half-Mile

Milwaukee, Wis September 24, 2020: On Friday, September 25, the Royal Enfield Twins FT ridden by Johnny Lewis will compete again in the Progressive American Flat Track (AFT) Production Twins class at the Dallas Half-Mile at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Lewis impressed the flat track world when he finished sixth and seventh respectively in the Williams Grove Half-Mile Mains on his Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield debut.

Lewis’ Moto Anatomy team has spent the last two weeks continuing testing the Royal Enfield Twins FT as they look to make adjustments to further develop the platform. After Williams Grove the team gathered valuable insights into the Twins FT and will continue building upon the foundation this weekend. Working closely with Royal Enfield and Harris Performance, the team has been exchanging data and feedback over the past two weeks.

“Heading into our second race weekend at the Dallas Half-Mile at Devil’s Bowl Speedway is exciting because we had a weekend off to make changes to the chassis and improvements to the engine,” said Johnny Lewis, Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield racer. “This is a development season, results on paper are great but progress from race to race is more rewarding and frankly important. We know it’s going to take time, but when you can leave the track with a plan for the next race to improve the motorcycle, that’s a huge step for a team developing a competitive race program.”

The Twins FT and Lewis will run the remainder of the AFT season in the Production Twins class. Lewis and team will further develop the motorcycle as they look forward to the 2021 season. While the team wants to perform well, the ultimate goal of the 2020 season is to continue gathering critical data and insights into the Twins FT platform – and have some fun doing it. The initial results show promise, but the team is focused on development.

“The AFT program has generated a positive response across the entire Royal Enfield organization,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing Lead for Royal Enfield Americas. “All eyes were on the team’s performance at Williams Grove and the positive results reinforce that we belong on the AFT stage along with the other major manufacturers. The team is excited to write this chapter as part of Royal Enfield’s storied legacy and we can’t wait to get back on the track in Dallas.’”

The Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield team will finish the remainder of the AFT season as they compete at the Dallas Half-Mile, Atlanta Short Track, Charlotte Half-Mile and AFT Finale at Daytona Beach. To stay up to date on the latest results and insights from the track, follow @MotoAnatomyxRoyalEnfield on Instagram. The team will also be releasing short films documenting each round, which can be seen on Royal Enfield North America’s YouTube channel.
