Proposed new regulations for Autocycles in Massachusetts

Proposed new regulations for 3-wheel autocycles from https://www.bostonherald.com by Boston Herald Wire Services Proposed regulations of autocycles will be on the schedule when Massachusetts lawmakers hold a virtual public hearing Tuesday. An autocycle is a three-wheeled motor vehicle that meets federal safety standards for a motorcycle. Unlike motorcycles, however, autocycles typically include a steering wheel, a seat for the driver and occasionally seats for passengers. The driver and passengers are not required to straddle the vehicle like a motorcycle. One of the bills under consideration would create new safety measures for autocycles including requiring the driver and passengers to wear helmets, requiring autocycle manufacturers to equip the vehicles with safety belts which must be worn by drivers and passengers, and barring children under eight from riding in one. Anyone who operates an autocycle without wearing a safety helmet or safety belts would face a fine of no less than $25 under the bill. Which Three-Wheeler Fits Your Style?

We offer a brief history of the Three-wheeled vehicle, and take a guess at the lifestyle each fits best. In 2007, BRP put its three-wheeled Can-Am Spyder on the market and sold 2500 units in the U.S. By 2015, it had sold 1 million units globally. In 2017, it estimated the U.S. three-wheel industry to be good for approximately 40,000 sales a year, and that industry includes competition from historic names like Harley-Davidson and Morgan. Some bikers scoff at the three-legged mechanical portmanteau called an autocycle, but they’re here to stay; in 2020, BRP more than doubled its 2019 volume in the U.S. Maybe you’re considering joining the growing crowd but aren’t sure which saddle to throw a leg over, here is a brief history of three-wheelers and the people who love them. Age of Three : a brief history of Trikes

Age of Three : a brief history of Trikes The aberration of three-wheeled vehicles in mainstream mobiles on your highway by Ujjwal Dey There was always a concept of a three-wheeled vehicle. The tricycle that got motorized. Most of these were owner-created by auto enthusiasts who wanted to custom build their own mean machine for the roads. Now of course, we have really powerful ATVs on three wheels which can give any 4WD a run for its money. The trike was an increasingly popular form with the front-steering “tadpole” or “reverse trike” sometimes with front drive but usually with rear drive. This was practical due to better safety when braking. Three-wheeler cars, including some cyclecars, bubble cars and microcars, are built for economic reasons. For example, in the UK there were tax advantages, or in the US to take advantage of lower safety regulations when being classed as motorcycles. As a result of their light construction and potential better streamlining, three-wheeled cars are usually less expensive to operate. The Trikes of Elvis Presley

TCB by Trikes.bikernet.com Editor Ujjwal Dey Taking Care of Business, our Trikes Editor has painstakingly compiled a comprehensive track on Elvis owned Trikes. Play the record, visit the Trikes site, feel the energy. Simply “The King” : The Trikes of Elvis Presley During the 1970s craze for Trikes, legend Elvis Presley rode these with joy “I wasn’t popular in school … I failed music—only thing I ever failed. And then they entered me in this talent show … when I came onstage I heard people kind of rumbling and whispering and so forth, ’cause nobody knew I even sang. It was amazing how popular I became after that.” – Elvis reminiscing about his 1953 song and dance routine. In 1954, Elvis finally got himself a job as a truck driver. A job many of us who dream and chase dreams know as the job that pays the bills for the expensive hobby of dreaming. In the summer of 1975, Elvis bought several Trikes (three wheeled motorcycles), the first of which was a 1975 Rupp Centaur with a 340cc two stroke engine. Within weeks two other types would follow. They were the 65 bhp, 1600cc Volkswagen engine trikes based on Ed Roth designs. The two VW Trikes were seen many times on the road with Elvis Presley riding it in and out of his Graceland home.
