It’s already slamming toward Thanksgiving. We rolled over to the Garage Company last night for a lasagna Thanksgiving feast with the bros. Talk about the shop of dreams. It’s amazing.

Sonny Nutter builds exclusively Triumph classics at the Garage Company. I met some of the other team members and we stood around and discussed projects, past employees, and Bonneville dreams.

Yoshi, the owner constantly smiles and finds joy in every project. His shop is like an acre in size. It’s one story, with arched wooden beam ceilings, and it seems to go on forever.

We have signed a deal with Jack McIntyre and soon with Cadillac Joe. Jack travels like crazy shooting events all over the country and girls in his studio. He’s going to bring the Cantina a new photo feature every week. So join up and check the action.

Jack and Joe are going to help our gang with Bikernet Baggers. Buck is staying on as the Senior Editor. We are going to cook for 2014.

AUSTRALIAN CLUB BATTLES IN COURT–
Lawyer for accused Mongols member first to challenge anti-biker laws in bail hearingl

A lawyer for an alleged biker charged under Queenslands’s draconian anti-association laws has challenged the new rules in court.

Appearing for West Australian man Bradley Maurice Baker in Southport Magistrates Court Friday morning, defence lawyer Michael Gatenby said new rules dictating all bail applications for bikers be heard by Brisbane’s Chief Magistrate were ‘invalid’.

Citing sections of the Bail Act and Justices Act, Mr Gatenby called for Baker to be granted bail immediately.

Baker, who has a Mongols motorcycle club tattoo on his face, was one of three men arrested on Wednesday night under the new anti-association laws.

They are the first alleged bikers to be charged under Queensland’s new anti-association laws.

The other two, Gold Coast locals Leslie Andrew Markham and James William Cleave, are also due to face court Friday.

Under tough new laws introduced by the Newman government, members of declared organisations are not allowed to publicly gather in groups of more than two.

Police prosecutor Damian Summerfield said he wanted more time to prove Baker was a biker.

Magistrate John Costanzo said the matter was too complex to be dealt with quickly.

He told the court he needed more instruction on how to apply the new directive, and the court needed better information on how to implement the laws.

The matter was adjourned until Tuesday.

Club preparing for legal battle over ‘fortified’ clubhouse

The Hells Angel Nomads chapter in Victoria is mobilising its legal forces to fight an order it remove the heavy fortifications at its Thomastown clubhouse in a legal battle that may ultimately end in Australia’s highest court.

A leading defence Queen’s counsel on Friday foreshadowed his clients were “marshalling” material for its case to challenge the order recently granted to police under new anti-fortification laws.

Police want ‘fortifications’ removed from the Lipton Drive address that include a front steel gate with sharpened spikes, a barbed wire and jagged “shark tooth” fence line and night vision, pan, tilt and zoom cameras, CCTV monitors, infrared sensor and locks, bolts and shutters.

David Grace, for the Hells Angel Nomads Pty Ltd, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court to seek an extension of time for his client to object to the order earlier granted to assistant commissioner Stephen Fontana.

Ron Gipp, for Victoria Police, did not oppose the application, but told magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg his client claimed public interest immunity against the disclosure of some parts of an affidavit by a senior member of the police anti-biker Echo task force.

Mr Gipp claimed privilege on any material that disclosed police methodology, that which could prejudice on-going investigations or identify police informers.

He agreed with Mr Rozencwajg it was a “novel situation” that police relied on material in support of the order that it did not want to disclose to Mr Grace’s clients.

The court heard in Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne Cheesman’s affidavit there was reference to a police information report about the kidnap, assault and torture of a man and also Hells Angel member Christopher Hudson who murdered a solicitor in King Street.

Mr Rozencwajg noted Hudson’s crimes had not been “club business”.

Mr Gipp said privilege was also claimed on the release of material that would “severely” compromise any on-going investigation and also police “commentary” on biker-related media reports.

He said a new and revised affidavit by Detective Cheesman would be drafted next week.

Mr Grace argued that any evidence relied on by police had to be admissible under the Evidence act and that he wanted to compare any new affidavit with the first one.

He said steps had already started to “marshal material” to oppose the order which would include extensive affidavits, evidence from neighbours near the clubhouse about their security issues and from local police about break ins.

A fully contested hearing could take a week and also involve cross-examining Detective Cheesman, Mr Grace said, who recalled representing in 2003 the West Australian chapter of the Gypsy Joker motorcycle club in a matter that reached the High Court.

The matter was adjourned until next month and a hearing booked in for January 13.

 


THE UNKNOWN REVIEW–
Recently had the pleasure of watching Unknown Industries film – 13th LEVEL, Starring Nick Leonetti & Buddy Suttle. It was filmed and directed by Strati Hovartos, Produced by John Oakes & Butch Morrison.

What can I say? Good film- some amazing riding! On a personal level I can relate, as I used to wheelie my friends Gold Wing (complete with saddle bags and fairing) up and down pit row at Edmonton International Speedway… There is something extremely satisfying about taking a big heavy piece of machinery, and launching it down the road, front wheel in the air, delicately on the balance point – accelerating as hard as you can.

These guys have taken it to a whole new level! (level 13) and brought it foward to the public for you to enjoy. Big, long heavy Dynas up in the air, and accelerating hard is nothing short of spectacular; not to mention the amazing ,tire smoking stunting at ground level.?Amazing riding , well filmed, nicely executed, complete with interviews.

Well done! Dr. Feng approved. Enjoy the film… I did – more than once, and shared it with friends.

P.S. if you don’t like the music as a matter of personal taste, just turn the volume down… ” It’s all about the ride!”

Rain in Southern California for the first time in days, possibly weeks. Might be a great time to stay home while the amateurs travel the oil slick freeways texting and talking, incased in their rollin’ telephone booth/eatery/reading room combo space ships. Very easy to spot, usually looking in a downward direction while weaving bump to bump under the speed limit, blocking the traffic flow, oblivious to the time of day or their whereabouts.

This week was very productive in the quest for speed department. Marc Susman at Colorado Custom recently challenged his Crew with a one off labor of love project. Nothin like building a Bonneville Land Speed Motorcycle from scratch.

The Susman Crew designed, then welded and machined one bad ass-solid-will-hold-air-Plenum with a pair of removable velocity stacks for tuning options. The unit is mechanic friendly for easy on and off if and when it’s necessary.

Marc rolled one of the shop chairs next to the lift and installed the first class Air Plenum. The shorter velocity stack might perform on the street a tad better than the longer version?

The dyno at Dan Thayers www.vtwifeulinjection.com shop in New York will give us the needed input in the near future.

Over the next few hours, or days Dr. Willie will meticulously check the fuel injection system components for continuity, then follow each wire from A to B looking for the elusive Gremlin(s).

Next on the list we locate the comfortable position for foot pegs, layout and drill the 1/2 inch steel plate then securely mount the pegs. Cut and thread a longer piece of linkage to connect the shifting arm, adding side clearance at the pivot point for easy, positive shifting.

Imagine clicking into second or third gear at about 5,500 RPM or more, while rollin’ at well over 100 plus a pocket full of spare change, a positive shifting experience might be the desired result. The salt flat Mantra? Fixate on a long distance target, keep the wheel in front and gently, in the name of traction, squeeze the trigger for the ride of your life time on the best seat in the house.

One helluva 2014 comin up, we’ll test and tune on the Highways, Byways, Race Tracks and finally, the infamous Bonneville Salt Flats.

BIKERNET BOOK OF THE WEEK CLUB, 1000 Biker Tattoos by Sara Liberte
I just finished reading this book. Do not be confused by the title, it is a lot more than just 1000 photos. It is 320 pages of interesting reading about the history of tattoos with photos of them and the people who wear them.

For those of you not familiar with who Sara is, she is a Top Notch Photo Journalist and very well respected by others in the business. She has worked hard to get where she is and the quality of her work speaks for itself.

Her introduction got my attention right away and I knew I would have to read all of it as well as check the photos.

As I got into the separate chapters named Motorcycle Tattoos she explains and shows photos of some of the tattoos bikers and other motorcyclist like and yes there is a lot of brand loyalty.

She goes on to explain what some of the phrases mean and related images. There is a chapter about personal stories of well know bikers. A whole chapter on Back Pieces and Bodies followed by some of the well know tattoo artists.
And last but not least a little something on her and her significant other Chad Lemme.

A column by the illustrious Sir Special Agent Zebra, Knight of the Order of Outlaws

Gentle reader,

It has been brought to my attention that it is now illegal to ride motorcycles in groups of two or more in the People’s Republic of Australia (PRA). In order to gather more information and to further determine the validity of this claim, I put forth these questions to the motorcycling population, requesting that respondents answer on the pubic forum doing business as Bikernet.com.

Please note that Bikernet.com, and the scalawag Keith “Bandit” Ball, assumes all responsibility for everything done anywhere, at all times, worldwide, by anyone, including anything I may or may not write in this ongoing investigatory column.

I have been asked by the godless Bandit Ball Bearing to represent the bikers of the People’s Republic of Australia regarding this matter, as I am an attorney of some notable notoriety.

Step one, get the facts.

1)Who is the person responsible for authoring this alleged “law”?
2)Does anyone have compromising pictures of said individual? Photos involving nudity, illegal drugs, or other compromising elements (yes, farm animals) are preferred.
3)Has anyone been prosecuted under the current statute?
4)Do the words “revolution” mean anything in the People’s Republic of Australia anymore?

While there is precious little we Yanks can do from our side of the pond to effect legislative change in the PRA, we can offer some advice based on our own experience of fending off the libertines of law for the past 200-plus years.

First, if you are a biker living in the PRA, you are should take an oath never to ride with fewer than ten brothers, in order to flaunt this hilarious “law”. Gather in public, perform wheelies, and throttle rolls, and be sure not to run out of beer. Keep your brass knuckles polished so they glimmer when you belt The Man.

Second, know that most laws are, in theory, nothing more than strong suggestions, opinions really, handed down by elitists, to be ignored at will by We the People. Since you’re now automatically criminals per your ownership of motorcycles, it’s actually your civic duty to perform what we in America call, “civil disobedience”. For the sake of clarity, I’ll translate that into biker terms: Fuck ‘em. Ride.

Third, recruit the press. The media always loves bikers per their colorful attire and original ideas, and they do a good job of showing the masses just how idiotic their representatives truly are. Everybody loves a laugh. Keep the press close, and keep your pistols closer. Oh that’s right, you already turned in your pistols. Well, see where that got you? You might consider getting those back at some point as well. They really help. I’ve shot Bandit several times and each time it only served to better establish the boundaries of our friendship. Good fences (and good shots) make good neighbors.

I await the answers to my first four questions.

EPA proposal would require less ethanol to be produced in 2014
Last Friday, November 15th, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a proposed rule that would force the United States to produce less ethanol in 2014. This is the first time the EPA has decided that less renewable fuels should be produced the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) reports. The reaction is due to the declining markets since Congress passed the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) in 2007.

The move was expected as the demand for higher ethanol blends has been shrinking across the country. The proposed rule by the EPA lowers the amount of ethanol that must be blended into U.S. fuel supplies from 16.55 billion gallons in 2013 to 15.21 billion gallons in 2014, the same amount that was produced in 2012.

Ethanol has been controversial. It can harm the power trains of vehicles and leave the owner with a voided warranty. It has lead to higher corn prices, which has lead to higher costs associated with certain food items such as milk, eggs and meat. Both of which have drawn the disdain of many Americans. Ethanol was supposed to be the spark that lead to cleaner renewable fuels such as switch grass and other sources of alternative fuels, and that just has not happened since the RFS law was passed six years ago.

The decreased demand for fuel in general has flat lined due to more fuel-efficient vehicles and the rising cost of fuel. The proposal is open for public comment for 60 days before it could become final.

The MRF will keep you informed on this issue.

The instructor said, “Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial. It strengthens the pelvic muscles and will make delivery that much easier.

Just pace yourself, make plenty of stops and try to stay on a soft surface like grass or a path.”

“Gentlemen, remember — you’re in this together. It wouldn’t hurt you to go walking with her. In fact, that shared experience would be good for you both.”

The room suddenly became very quiet as the men absorbed this information.

After a few moments a man, name unknown, at the back of the room, slowly raised his hand.

“Yes?” said the Instructor.

“I was just wondering if it would be all right if she carries a golf bag while we walk?”
Brings a tear to your eye, doesn’t it?
This kind of sensitivity just can’t be taught.




DREAM CHASER RACIN’–
We’ve come a long way, baby! Rockingham NC to Las Vegas NV to Bradenton FL

Not only did Janette Thornley and the Dream Chaser Racin’ team go a lot of miles to race, but they came a long way in performance. Although the team didn’t bring home a win during the last three appearances of the year, they feel they made an appearance and proud of their accomplishments.

“I realize each track may bring different conditions and challenges, but to run so consistently after some of the struggles we’ve had makes me smile from ear to ear and hungry for the 2014 season to start!” said Thornley. “Look at the numbers: 7.566, 7.579, 7.521, 7.746, 7.574, 7.569, 7.468, 7.438, 7.326, 7.331, 7.453, 7.419. Still room for improvement but if you had been there through the long hours, multiple engine tear downs (5 to be exact), rewires, etc., you’d feel the same”, says Thornley.

After leaving Rockingham in October, the team made their next appearance in Las Vegas for the NHRA Lucas Oil Race sponsored by Harley-Davidson where they qualified third. They advanced to the semi-finals where they ran a 7.569 et @ 169.70 mph vs competitor Dale Niles’ 7.517 et @ 179.21 mph.

The team then traveled back to East for the Haltech World Finals presented by the Manufactures Cup race, November 8 – 10 in Bradenton, FL . Here the team continued to show their dedication and determination when they made another showing in the semi-finals from a twelve-bike ladder. This meant Thornley needed to get past some strong competitors, winning round one against Rich Vreeland with her 7.331 et @ 165.59 mph vs 7.469 et @ 174.35 mph. She was then paired with number two qualifier, Rebel Glover, but that didn’t matter. Thornley stayed focused and delivered a win, running 7.453 et @ 165.16 mph vs 7.533 et @ 172.94 mph. Lastly she met Dale Niles where she had the numbers to get the win but lost to Niles’ hole shot running a 7.419 @ 165.13 mph vs 7.439 et at 167.47 mph.

Guatemala’s Arredondo Leads Chris Haines Team To SCORE Baja 1000 Victory?Class 30 win and third overall motorcycle to BREMEN-backed Chris Haines Off-Road squad at Tecate SCORE Baja 1000– Lake Elsinore, CA – November 20, 2013 – The 2013 running of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 marked the 10th time Francisco Arredondo has been a part of the world-class race, and the third time he has celebrated a Baja 1000 win. But this time it was also the best overall finish for the Guatemala based global adventurer, who helped lead his BREMEN/Chris Haines Off-Road team to third overall (motorcycle) and the Class 30 win!

Rider of record Arredondo was joined by a team of very fast Baja racing veteran including Cycle World editor Ryan Dudek, Shane Esposito, Brian Pinard, Scott Meyers and, of course, Chris Haines in competing in the 883-mile Baja 1000. Aboard the #349X Jimmy Holley-prepped Honda CRF450X, the team skillfully navigated the rugged course, and recorded a nearly flawless race, with not so much as a broken spoke on their way to the finish line in Ensenada.

“It was a really good team event for us,” Haines commented. “Everybody did their part well and there were no big mistakes and nobody had any crashes. Typically somebody will fall over, but we had no mechanical problems, no flat tires, no fiascos of any kind.”

The BREMEN/Chris Haines team started off strong, and held a steady pace throughout the race – a daunting task given the nature of the 2013 course. “It was really tough,” Haines said. “SCORE put a really good course together this year that was far more challenging than it had been in the last five years, maybe. Typically the Baja 1000 is a lot faster, but the overall speed turned out to be lower than people anticipated. I think that’s the reason the motorcycles won overall and beat the first Trophy Trucks.”

For Haines himself, it marked his 14th SCORE Baja class win at the infamous race. But like Arredondo, this year’s result marked his highest overall finish.

OFFICIAL BIKERNET PHILOSOPHER ON PASSION–
Yesterday I had a business lunch with a friend of mine who also rides a Harley. As usual the conversation eventually veered off to our motorcycles and riding. Like myself he has ridden his whole life and is grateful for the never ending high of the motorcycle rider. When you are a true rider it doesn’t matter how much money you have, what your position in life is, all that counts is you are able to get on your bike and ride.

I remember when I was a kid and all I needed was a couple of bucks for gas and I could ride for the whole night.

I feel so blessed that I found a lifelong passion so early in Life that gives me perpetual enjoyment. On the opposite side I watched a documentary on Ted Turner once one of the richest people on this planet and felt sorry for the way he lived most of his Life. Ted was obsessed by money and power and spent a great part of his Life trying to prove to his Father (who committed suicide) that he was worthy of his approval.

In the process he missed out on many things most importantly his family. It seems that Ted has finally found the things that matter the most in Life and that is his children and grandchildren.

He now spends his days making our planet a better place to Live. Don’t get me wrong I Love money and all the things it can do, but I know the one thing it cannot do is buy happiness. You could see the joy in his face when he spoke of his passions that are driven for the right reason.

It is never too late to Live your passion, whether it is riding a motorcycle, spending time with your family and friends, art, dancing, starting a business, music, public speaking, sports, some sort of creative self-expression, take the time to find them, or if you know what they are start living them today.

And So It Is

North Texas Drivers Stopped at Roadblock Asked for Saliva, Blood.

Fort Worth police apologize for its role in federal survey

Some drivers along a busy Fort Worth street on Friday were stopped at a police roadblock and directed into a parking lot, where they were asked by federal contractors for samples of their breath, saliva and even blood.

It was part of a government research study aimed at determining the number of drunken or drug-impaired drivers.

“It just doesn’t seem right that you can be forced off the road when you’re not doing anything wrong,” said Kim Cope, who said she was on her lunch break when she was forced to pull over at the roadblock on Beach Street in North Fort Worth.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which is spending $7.9 million on the survey over three years, said participation was “100 percent voluntary” and anonymous.

But Cope said it didn’t feel voluntary to her — despite signs saying it was.

“I gestured to the guy in front that I just wanted to go straight, but he wouldn’t let me and forced me into a parking spot,” she said.

Once parked, she couldn’t believe what she was asked next.

“They were asking for cheek swabs,” she said.

“They would give $10 for that. Also, if you let them take your blood, they would pay you $50 for that.”
At the very least, she said, they wanted to test her breath for alcohol.

She said she felt trapped.

“I finally did the Breathalyzer test just because I thought that would be the easiest way to leave,” she said, adding she received no money.

Fort Worth police earlier said they could not immediately find any record of officer involvement but police spokesman Sgt. Kelly Peel said Tuesday that the department’s Traffic Division coordinated with the NHTSA on the use of off-duty officers after the agency asked for help with the survey.

“We are reviewing the actions of all police personnel involved to ensure that FWPD policies and procedures were followed,” he said. “We apologize if any of our drivers and citizens were offended or inconvenienced by the NHTSA National Roadside Survey.”

NBC DFW confirmed that the survey was done by a government contractor, the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation, which is based in Calverton, Md.

A company spokeswoman referred questions to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
An agency spokeswoman sent an email confirming the government is conducting the surveys in 30 cities across the country in an effort to reduce impaired-driving accidents.

She did not respond to another email from NBC DFW asking specific questions about the program..
But a Fort Worth attorney who is an expert in civil liberties law questioned whether such stops are constitutional.

“You can’t just be pulled over randomly or for no reason,” said attorney Frank Colosi.

He also noted the fine print on a form given to drivers informs them their breath was tested by “passive alcohol sensor readings before the consent process has been completed.”

“They’re essentially lying to you when they say it’s completely voluntary, because they’re testing you at that moment,” Colosi said.

He also questioned the results of the “voluntary” survey — speculating that drivers who had been drinking or using drugs would be more inclined to simply decline to participate.

Cope said she is troubled by what happened.
“It just doesn’t seem right that they should be able to do any of it,” she said. “If it’s voluntary, it’s voluntary, and none of it felt voluntary.”

Asked Tuesday if she accepted the police department’s apology, Cope said she would wait to see what the review showed.

“They need to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” she said.

UNCLE MONKEY’S KING PROJECT–My credit card is still smoking as I’m ordering the parts necessary to start the King project. The biggest cloud of smoke coming from Snow White’s bill.

She is finished and up and running stronger then ever thanks to Yorkton Harley-Davidson and Ultima. I can now focus on the King knowing that Snow White is taken care of and paid for. In the few days until the delivery trucks start rolling in I hope to have the garage organized enough to be able to start on the King.

It’s that exciting time of the build. Combing through catalogs and magazine finding parts, pictures, and ideas. Some pages are dog-eared and tattered, their contents seared into my mind. It is the perfect part, the perfect compliment to the build. Their contents noted long ago as something that I wanted to have on a bike. Some are exotic and high end, others simple, humble but well executed by working men and women forging, molding, polishing and plating.

Other pages are scrutinized with the perfection of a forensic investigator. What is that part? Will it work with those parts? How will it look? Where can I buy it? How much does it cost? Can I get it cheaper? Can I build it myself?

It is an exhilarating time to build bikes. Everything is popular right now. Fat tire long bikes are being built along side stripped down bobbers, baggers, cafe’s, and the back street low buck choppers and tricked out trikes.

If you want it there is a thriving aftermarket available for it. People, lifestyle, culture and counter culture mashed together creating a unique scene. If you are living with blinders on you truly are missing out. If the Rockers and Mods can get along a host events together you should be able to pull that stick out of your behind and toast to a great riding season with a Winger, with a Squid.

Embrace this time. Soon a new fad will come along while others will fade to memories. Take the time to build, to create even if it is only a new friendship.

Hello, my name is Rigid Frame Richard. I like Fast Harleys, Loud Pipes, Girls with Big Injectors (TC) and Little Hotties planted on the back! Redheads get a Preferred Status Card. I’m also 100% against radios and or any type of music on motorcycles! Don’t even try to ride with me with that crap barking at me. I’m not having someone run over me because they were switching from Brittney to Miley. Plus, I don’t like your music! (Stepping off my soapbox).

Started taking pictures and developing back in the ‘70s, while in the Army over in Germany. Started riding Harleys about the same time, as I hit Texas again heading to Fort Hood.

Strange that I never tied the two together until sometime in 2004 when Bandit took over the Primedia gig for a bit. By that time I had been submitting stuff to Bikernet.com for several years. I continue to shoot bikes when I can. I just started shooting concerts for All Access Music News and any other type of freelance gig I can get. Been fortunate to have been published here in the US with Hot Bike, Street Chopper and over in the UK in Skin Deep a tattoo publication where I got my first cover! Still no full cover in the American MC world, however the images keep getting larger, so who knows?

So, what’s coming to the Bikernet World? Let’s see, I’m wrapping up another feature, and we will kick off tons of new wild naked content in the Cantina. I’m working on another soap episode. I was struggling with it, but then she walked past and suddenly I was inspired.

I’m wrapping up another tech for Rivera, and need to see if I honored all my promises for this year. We are working with these entry level ATK motorcycles and Saddlemen next week for some travel gear fitment.

And I need to ship my Assalt Weapon parts to the Lucky Devil. I had a crate company on the line, and then he disappeared. Damn, we’re burnin’ daylight. And next week we will look into our manufacturing process for a new product line produced right here in the Bikernet Headquarters. Hang On, and give thanks for everything, goddammit.
