PLAYOFFS SUNDAY POST for January 14, 2018

Hey,

Great weekend to catch a nasty cold, Playoffs mania. I haven’t watched football all year. I caught a cold the other day from the Redhead and bada bing I feel like shit. So don’t mind me if I’m off key today.

Let’s get with the program. Another game is going to start…

STURGIS MUSEUM New Year Resolution: Build an Interactive Rally Experience

There are many visitors that come to the museum, outside of Rally to either discover what it is all about or to relive a past visit. The Museum has always told the story of the Rally’s history and the year’s nuances, but this year our promise is to complete an interactive experience for our visitors.

The exhibit will feature sights and sounds of Rally through a multi-media display as well as information on the past, present and coming components of the largest motorcycle Rally in the world.

If you’d like to make contributions to this new and exciting experience, contact Myrick Robbins!

Here are the latest announcements about the Sturgis Museum & Hall of Fame, the Black Hills and news in motorcycling.

GUN NUT REPORT– Virginia: Gun Control Tops New Governor’s Agenda

This week, Virginia Governor McAuliffe and Governor-Elect Ralph Northam outlined their top priorities for the upcoming legislative session, and highlighted expanded background checks for all firearm sales and other transfers (so-called “universal” background checks) as a key measure the new governor will be pursuing upon taking office.

This is no surprise. Gov.-elect Northam has “proudly voted” to restrict Virginians’ gun rights for years. As a state senator, he pushed for expanded background checks, and laws that would ban commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms and magazines.

As lieutenant governor, he notably opposed permitless carry, casting a tie-breaking vote to block legislation that would have allowed residents, otherwise eligible to obtain a concealed carry permit, to carry a concealed handgun without a permit anywhere in the state where a handgun may be carried openly.

In addition to his pledge to expand background check laws, the incoming governor campaigned on promises to further restrict gun show sales, reinstate a one-a-month limit on the number of handguns residents may lawfully purchase (a gun-rationing law that was repealed in 2012), and impose a ban on commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms and “large” capacity magazines. All of this attracted the support of billionaire anti-gunner Michael Bloomberg and his Everytown group, which reportedly donated almost $1.5M towards Northam’s gubernatorial bid.

Indeed, Gov.-elect Northam describes his legislative priorities as “common sense,” echoing the terminology consistently used by Everytown and the like to justify expanded background checks, gun bans, purchase limits and other gun control measures touted as the key to ending gun crime in America. None of these proposals, though, have proven to be effective in stopping gun crimes.

The kind of expanded background check law likely to be proposed (here, here and here) would make it a crime for any person to participate in a sale, rental, trade, or other “transfer” of a firearm without first having the transaction brokered through a licensed gun dealer, unless the sale or transfer falls within a narrow exemption. Because such laws are written to include temporary transfers, changes in the possession of a gun, regardless of whether ownership changes, come within the kind of transaction that must be processed through a licensed dealer.

The NRA has universally opposed such background check laws in Virginia and in other states because these measures accomplish little besides burdening law-abiding gun owners with new fees and extra government paperwork for ordinary “transactions” of guns while training, hunting, at the range, and in other legitimate pursuits.

A recent study of laws in three other states confirms the NRA’s apprehensions as to the utility of expanded background check requirements in crime control – “the state most compliant with its ‘universal’ background check law also had the highest homicide rate and the biggest increase in its homicide rate of the states studied.” And earlier this month, we highlighted a federal Government Accountability Office (GAO) report which negates claims of private sellers knowingly breaking the law to make guns available to felons and other prohibited persons.

In advocating for expanded background checks, gun control proponents have consistently relied on a narrative whereby criminals may easily acquire guns through “unregulated” private channels, including online sales.

Apart from the obvious retort – that criminals are as likely to comply with enhanced background check laws as with existing background check requirements or other laws – the GAO report failed to validate these assertions in any way. Undercover ATF agents who tested the willingness of private individuals to sell guns to disqualified persons using the “relative anonymity of the Internet” were unable to complete a single transaction: every seller refused to complete a sale on learning of the agent-buyer’s “prohibited” status.

We can’t help but notice that the McAuliffe-Northam legislative package includes a proposal to significantly raise the threshold for felony larceny from $200 to $1,000, something Governor McAuliffe is “very, very passionate about.” At a joint appearance with Gov.-elect Northam to present legislative priorities, the governor explains that an “18-year-old stealing an iPhone” is “branded as a felon in Virginia for the rest of [his] life,” and raising the felony threshold would mean fewer people are liable to be “ensnared in this lifelong punishment for making a small mistake.”

This anxiety over the potential impact of laws on convicted thieves and felons provides an interesting counterpoint to the ease with which these two officials push hard for new and additional restrictions that encroach on the fundamental rights and freedoms of Virginia’s law-abiding gun owners.

This report has been submitted to the Bikernet Editorial Review Board. The board meets just twice a year in Nepal. They only meet for one hour and often their docket is overloaded with requests, so it would be moved to the next board session.

We also must be very careful as to how we submit our requests. The slightest discrepancy and it will be kicked back by the board secretaries.

If they don’t like your attitude, they will easily shit-can your request.

It the board agrees with you submission it will be certified and investigated. The finding will be resubmitted to the board during the following year.

In other words it’s a bitch to get shit fixed around here.–Bandit

Instead of Blaming Trump You May Want to Thank Him For Jeff Sessions Decision To Move On Marijuana Law–

Make Your Elected Officials Do Their Job and Change The Law If That Is What The Majority Of People Want.–
Rogue

Don’t like Sessions’ marijuana decision? Change the law

Article I, Section 1 of the United States Constitution provides that: “All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.”

Legislative powers are the power to make and repeal laws. Those powers are not vested in the executive branch, which includes the president and, more relevant to this discussion, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who recently announced that he will no longer follow an Obama-era policy of not enforcing federal laws against marijuana.

Some states have repealed their own laws against marijuana, but marijuana remains illegal under federal law, and will stay that way unless Congress legislates otherwise.

This is basic civics stuff, but it seems to have eluded a lot of people — people such as Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., who exploded in response to Sessions’ announcement, saying marijuana laws should be left to the states, and who vowed to “take all steps necessary” to secure a reversal of Sessions’ announcement, including holding up nominees to the Department of Justice.

Many other members of Congress — from Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., to Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., were also critical. But if you want to leave marijuana decisions up to the states, there’s an easy way to do that: Repeal the federal marijuana law. Legislate, which is supposed to be the job of … legislators. Like Gardner, Sanders or Lieu. There’s even a bill in front of Congress to do just that, HR 975, the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act, introduced by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., in 2017.

It has bipartisan sponsorship, divided roughly evenly between Republicans and Democrats.

So why are Gardner, et al. attacking Sessions instead of speaking out in favor of new legislation?

Well, for one thing, it’s easy. Passing bills is work; denouncing Sessions requires only a press release — or in this case, a few tweets.

It’s also safer. Congress has been surprisingly willing to let the executive branch take over its lawmaking functions through regulatory measures, executive orders and “prosecutorial discretion.” That’s because then the executive branch takes the blame, while members of Congress don’t have to take a stand.
And it’s for that reason
that, even though I favor marijuana legalization, I approve of what Sessions has done.

He’s basically told Congress that if they don’t like the marijuana laws that are on the books, they need to get off their butts and change them. As an executive official, he’s telling the legislative branch that he’s going to respect the constitutional separation of powers, which means that if the law is changed, it will have to be changed by the lawmakers.

As reported in Politico, Sessions’ action may make the legalization of marijuana more likely, as a lot of legislators who have been trying to have it both ways are forced to take a position. Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., for example, who refused to discuss his position on marijuana legalization with Politico “just a few weeks ago,” is now pledging to fight for legalization.

And he’s not alone. Marijuana means jobs and tax revenues in many states, and if the Justice Department won’t promise to ignore the federal law,

And that’s exactly how the system is supposed to work. Members of Congress would rather have it both ways, of course, because they’re politicians, and talking out of both sides of their mouths is standard procedure. But we get better government when people have to take a stand and face the voters. Looks like that’s going to happen here, for which we can thank Attorney General Sessions.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT SPIRITUAL WORD OF THE DAY–

vatic [vat-ik]

adjective

1.of, relating to, or characteristic of a prophet.

QUOTES
… I can’t escape the feeling that Yeats knew, in the vatic, unwitting way of poets.

— Marcel Theroux, Strange Bodies, 2013

ORIGIN
The Latin noun vatis or vates “soothsayer, prophet, poet, bard” is probably a borrowing from a Celtic language (it has an exact correspondence in form and meaning with Old Irish fáith “seer, prophet,” from Proto-Celtic watis). The Latin noun and Celtic root wat- are from a Proto-Indo-European root meaning “to be spiritually aroused.” One of the Germanic forms of this root appears in the Old English adjective wod “raging, crazy,” which survives in modern English in the adjective wood. Vatic entered English in the early 17th century.

WORLD RUN BOOK REVIEW–
The story picks up shortly after the previous story ends. Even though this tale can stand on its own I would recommend reading Harbor Town Seduction first as it sets up this book nicely.

World Run finds our hero, Chance Hogan, down and out in the women department only to fall in lust and subsequently in love with a local Asian beauty. This love affair propels Chance into an adventure where he has to count on old friends and new to sort out the cause for events which lead him on a wild journey around the world.

Again, KRB no doubt has drawn on his own experiences to help this story flow by providing vivid descriptions that puts the reader right there in the different ports of call.

I would highly recommend these two Books, Harbor Town Seduction and World Tour to anyone who wants to get lost in a good story for a few hours.

Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs-A Government Lie Exposed–

“In fact, more police officers are charged and convicted of felonies every year than members of outlaw motorcycle clubs. And members of outlaw motorcycle clubs have been heavily involved in the grassroots rights movement concerning civil liberties ranging from helmet choice to profiling”.

The source article got many things about Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs right. Let’s dive a little deeper into the matter. Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs were branded by Law Enforcement as “Outlaw Clubs or OMG’s”. It wasn’t the clubs themselves that put this brand on their club but Law Enforcement. Why did they brand the clubs as OMGs? It’s simple.

Clubs and the people inside them didn’t sit there and kiss the cops asses. They stood up to what society said the way people should act. Lets face it. After Vietnam the country turned on the returning vets. They would spit on them returning from Nam.

Your dam right these brothers would turn their back on society. They had every right too. Here are veterans returning from war (Most Drafted) the hippies and self loathing liberals treated them like dog shit. So yes they bonded together into clubs to find the brotherhood they had overseas.

Some of the clubs that are branded OMG have been around since WW2 and before. Some of the biggest ones have had hundreds if not thousands wear the club patch. Yes there is going to be some that live in the criminal underground.

Does this mean the whole club is a criminal organization as local and federal cops say? The government of the United States has had Senators,Congressman and even a President commit illegal acts. Does that make the United States Senate a criminal conspiracy?

Why has Outlaw Clubs came into the public eye? Well Kurt Sutter and the Sons of Anarchy. Since that show first came out, you can bet that those who never rode before ran out and got a bike.

After they got a bike they ran out with their friends and bought some patches. They started themselves a club and started going out raising hell like they seen on tv. Problem with that is the club scene was never anywhere near what that dam show tried to project. It was a Hollywood show you dam morons. To think that club life is like that you have to be some kind of fool.

So what about all the fighting and gun battles between clubs? Well in the last 10 years or so their has only been 2 major tussles. Those were directly related to a Pig club Iron Order M/C. This is a club that was started by an ex secret service agent. The club is full of cops.

Yea it has veterans in it and regular mojos but the point is the clubs is full of cops. This club has gone around starting shit because these cops think they can do what they want because they are cops. If you ever truly noticed every newspaper article on the Denver Shooting these punk Iron Order were right there talking to their police buddies after the incident. No Handcuffs or ties.

This is the problem the lifestyle is now facing. Cop Clubs and not Outlaw Clubs. Outlaw Clubs always kept a low profile, they never went out looking for shit to get into. These cop clubs on the other hand are always in the middle.

Who is really the threat? I have to say if you’re a cop and running around playing Outlaw Biker, you are.

INCREDIBLE— It’s never a dull moment, then everyone gets sick. One brother contracted pneumonia, the flu and plursey. What the fuck? Magazines are in a free fall from the paper to digital arena.

Robert Pandya, the MIC and the AMA are all studying the motorcycle industry. I will have a report from Robert next week.

I wrote in “Sam ‘Chopper’ Orwell” about how the motorcycle industry was under attach and the only place brothers could rider free was in the Badlands. I’m looking for a building right now.

I’m starting to work on the next Chance book and after I bury my mother’s ashes in New Zealand and watch the Burt Munro beach races I will head to Carson City, Nevada to the Paughco plant to retrieve the Salt Torpedo. We gotta scramble for Bonneville this year. Pray for good salt.

We are working on a new Lindby and KlockWerks tech. More Paul Garson stories are coming and David Campbell is working on a Girl of Bikernet. Hang on.

I’m into a Cantina Episode and may wrap it up next week. We have a TV producer looking at this series. It’s never dull around here.

Don’t forget to join a motorcycle rights group this year. I don’t care which one, just join and support freedom fighters everywhere.
