A Breakthrough Top-Five Finish for Monster Energy rider Chris Blose

A Breakthrough Top-Five Finish for Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Chris Blose
Foothill Ranch, Calif. (March 19, 2023) – The Motown music echoed through snowy streets as Monster Energy® Supercross raced into the Motor City for Detroit SX, Round 10 of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship. In the 250SX Class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Chris Blose led the Team Green® charge with his first top-five result of the season. In the 450SX Class, Adam Cianciarulo led laps early in the Main Event until mid-race adversity relegated him and his Monster Energy Kawasaki teammate Jason Anderson to eighth and ninth place at the checkered flag. The opening laps of the first free practice session revealed that the Detroit SX track was set to give the top riders in the world all they could handle. The sharp whoop section and abundance of tight switchback turns proved further complicated by the unique terrain of deep ruts and a hard packed base layer. Blose was quick to assert his competence in the whoops as he mastered the most challenging section of the track and began to rival near the top of the leaderboard. In the final qualification session, Blose executed the track with precision and strung together several race simulated laps to log the seventh fastest lap time of the morning (53.393). At the start of 250SX Heat 2, Blose emerged from the first turn in fifth with his sight set forward until an early-race mistake shuffled him back to eighth place. Blose regrouped by the end of Lap 2 and began to work his way up the running order. With superior whoop speed and consistent laps, the No.57 Kawasaki KX™250 rider overtook his rivals in rapid succession. Blose advanced through the field to challenge for fourth on the final lap before securing a fifth-place place result and earning a direct transfer to the Main Event. When the gate dropped for the 250SX Main Event, Blose again launched out to a fifth-place start and quickly found his rhythm. With the championship points leaders ahead, Blose latched onto the pace of the front group and began to separate himself from the rest of the class. The veteran rider logged steady laps and was one of the few competitors continuing to blitz through the increasingly challenging whoop section in the late stages. With just four laps remaining, a near collision with a lapped rider forced Blose to get hard on his brakes and allowed former two-time MX2 World Champion Tom Vialle to close the distance between them. Blose proved his determination in the closing laps of the race as he fended off the world class pressure and earned his first top-five finish of the 2023 season in impressive fashion.“The support of the Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team has been awesome as we’ve focused on building with each week of racing. I’ve improved my main event finish by one position at each of the last three races, so I’d say that process has been going really well. It was great to break into the top-five and show the hard work of this whole squad. Now, with a few weeks to prepare for Atlanta, we should be even more ready to challenge at the front of the pack.” – Chris Blose

The Monster Energy® Kawasaki duo of Anderson and Cianciarulo took to the track with a clear purpose for the opening 450SX Free Practice as they quickly dialed in the course and began experimenting with alternate rhythms. As the qualification sessions progressed, both Kawasaki KX™450SR riders honed in on the ideal racing line and ramped up their intensity. Anderson, the second fastest qualifier of the morning (51.491), was edged out for pole position by less than a tenth of a second, and Cianciarulo followed close on his heels with the fourth fastest lap (51.927). When the gate dropped for 450SX Heat 1, Anderson rocketed out to the holeshot and immediately extended a gap from the field by tripling through the opening section. Cianciarulo emerged from the first turn in ninth but thrilled the crowd as he made quick work of the competition and passed his way into third before the end of the second lap. While Cianciarulo continued his pursuit of second place, Anderson set sail out front to lead every lap of the race and secure a commanding heat race win; the 33rd 450SX Heat Win of his career. Cianciarulo’s charge through the pack earned him third at the finish. The Kawasaki duo lined up for the 450SX Main Event with first gate pick for the No. 21 of Anderson. When the gate dropped, the KX™450SR was out to the early lead, but this time it was Cianciarulo at the tip of the spear. The No.9 Kawasaki rider commanded the start of the race with the championship contenders all hot on his trail. Anderson, racing ahead from an eighth-place start, was pushing the pack forward while Cianciarulo fought to defend his lead. The intensity of the front battle increased and Cianciarulo was shuffled to sixth on Lap 4. Cianciarulo and Anderson matched pace for several laps in sixth and seventh until Anderson crashed exiting the whoop section and dropped back to 10th. Meanwhile, Cianciarulo was pushing his way forward and inching back into contention for the top-five battle until he too made a mistake and crashed over the rutted step-on-step-off section. The Monster Energy® Kawasaki teammates both continued to charge to the finish and reclaimed positions late in the race for respective eighth and ninth place finishes at the checkered flag. “I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m a little frustrated about my fall in the Main Event, but there are so many positives to focus on from the day that I know we’re making progress. This dirt was tricky to find comfort on, but I had a solid run in qualifying this morning and backed it up with a good ride in the Heat Race. In the Main, I led some laps early and, once I settled in behind Kenny (Roczen), I was able to stay right there with those guys. Unfortunately, that one mistake cost me a few positions, but we’ll focus forward to Seattle and aim to tie it at all together.” – Adam Cianciarulo“My day started out strong with good times in qualifying and I knew my KX™450SR was in a good spot to be competitive on this track. I grabbed the holeshot in my Heat Race and led start to finish, so the goal was to carry that into the Main Event. I started a little further back in the top 10 and then, while trying to battle my way forward, I got close with Adam in the whoops and just lost it. After I got up from the crash everything was pretty tweaked, so I focused on making the most of it and salvaged what I could for a top-10.” – Jason Anderson

Book review: “LESSONS FROM THE PIMP”
Interviews of Dennis Hof conducted by Joe Corey
You might think that the contents being interviews of the brothel-owner who revolutionized whore-housing are the selling point of this book. No. It’s the price: $3.99. Plus 2 dollars shipping from Amazon.
So, let’s review: You bought a book. You didn’t leave the house. You paid 6 bucks. Some guy you don’t know fucking brings it to your door. It’s got 129 numbered pages. No illustrations, so it’s all text. And you open it and start reading….and it’s all about F***###.

And you open it and start reading….and it’s all about fucking. And it’s not just fictional fucking like from a….well like something from something that I might write. In fact, it’s about an aspect of fucking that’s even more interesting than fucking. Or I should say more interesting than reading about fucking. It’s about the fucking BUSINESS.
I know what you’re saying: “Actually fucking is more interesting than reading about fucking.” Yeah, but reading about the fucking business is more interesting than NOT fucking. I know what you’re saying. But really, I need to move-along here.
Dennis Hof – now deceased – was to whore-housing like, well, like what Isaac Newton was to outer-space shit. Hof took whore-house shit to, not just shameless status, he brought it to HBO status. The level of innovation was so abrupt and so suddenly successful that, now that he’s dead I guess everyone is gonna haffta go back to shame-faced whoring.
Ron Jeremy found the body. I’m throwing that in just like it was thrown-in in the two-page epilogue. There’s gotta be another four-dollar book buried somewhere in that sentence, but for now: Ron Jeremy found the body. From what I read in the epilogue.
The interviewer was invited to the whorehouse compound I GUESS because Hof was comfortable talking to the guy. The book itself is a transcription – the paper version – of a series of internet interviews. So, I guess you can actually SEE the book in addition to reading the book. However, you can’t view the interviews on the crapper. Which is the real beauty of the Gutenberg printing press invention: you don’t need to bring a computer into the shitter. Plus, in the 4 dollar book you get the interviewer’s routine observations on his experience actually being the free whorehouse guest of the Great American Industrialist version of whorehouse marketing, advertising and enterprise.
Dennis Hof was an innovator in politics as well: he ran for and won a Nevada political-office election….even though he had already been dead a month. He apparently died fucking. I believe Nelson Rockefeller also died fucking. But he never won any elections a month later. And that’s weak.
Is there a lesson to take away from all this to help propel you through life as a wiser and more America-worthy entity? Yes, and this is me talking, not the interviewer: it’s better to be an owner than a CEO. Because if you’re an owner you actually give a shit. If you’re a CEO you probably ARE a shit. Hof was an owner. With ambition. The only ambitions CEO’s have are the same ambitions journalists and bureaucrats have: to be holy under the guise of providing a product or a service, not as a business but as a spiritual journey to perfection through bullshit. One thing Hof didn’t do was bullshit. He didn’t have time. He was too fucking busy – both fucking, and of course bringing fucking to others. I’m crying now!
And thank you Joe Cory for apparently being pleasant enough that Dennis Hof deigned you worthy of hearing his story and then telling it to others the way he said it.

Harley-Davidson Unveils The X 350 In China
By Wayfarer |
from inputs by Enrico Punsalang from https://www.rideapart.com
The first QJ Motor-built Harley-Davidson machine is ready to hit the road.
Harley-Davidson has confirmed rumors and revealed 2023 X 350 in China. It goes without saying that the X 350 is a bike that marks a new milestone for Harley’s history. It’s their first foray into the sub-500cc segment in the modern era and the first two-wheeler to be crafted by their Chinese partner, QJ Motor.
Retro flair is prominent by the round instrument console, mirrors, and headlight shape, while the aerodynamic and brawny radiator shrouds, as well as the flat-track-inspired tail section, exude a distinctive charm. Interestingly, unlike Harley’s traditional cruisers, the X 350 is entirely devoid of chrome, further adding to its unconventional, surprisingly sporty appeal.
It has mid-controls, a low handlebar, and a tall 32-inch seat height that puts the rider in a more neutral position instead of the usual foot-forward, laid-back posture. A basic digital-analog instrument cluster reflects the fact that this bike was designed with a budget in mind.
H-D X350 is powered by a 353cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine borrowed from previous models in QJ Motor’s lineup. Producing 36 horsepower and 22.8 pound-feet of torque, the chain drive is matched with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Its recognizable fuel tank stores 13.5 liters.
Keep in mind that this motorcycle is exclusive to China and costs approximately $4,793. This is less than comparable motorcycles in the 300 to 400 cc category.
However, the X500 may be aimed at beginner market in USA and would be based on Benelli Leoncino. (Benelli being owned by QJ). It is expected that the Harley-Davidson will launch the X500 first in China and other Asian markets before bringing it home to USA and probably to Europe as well.

NHTSA Responds to Questions from Congress
By Wayfarer |
Just before the end of 2022, Rep. Tim Walberg of Michigan and 26 of his colleagues in Congress sent a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding recent crashes that involve motorcycles and cars believed to be in self-driving mode.
The response from government regulators has some key takeaways:
- “NHTSA is actively working to educate consumers and the media that automated driving system (ADS) technologies are not self-driving technologies, and that drivers must always remain engaged in the driving task.”
- “Crashes involving motorcycles account for less than 2 percent of all reported crashes involving ADS.”
- “NHTSA is conducting research on how vehicles equipped with crash avoidance technologies react to motorcycles, bicyclists and other vulnerable road users in various scenarios.”
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation is committed to aggressively working with lawmakers to address obvious safety gaps in the deployment of this new technology. While we appreciate that NHTSA is conducting research on this topic, on this topic, motorcyclists are not “vulnerable road users”, motorcyclists are simply road users.
Additionally, it’s unacceptable that consumers falsely believe this technology, deployed on our roads, allows them to sit back and relax while in the driver’s seat. The safety of the nearly 10 million bikers on our nation’s roadways requires that all roadway users act in a responsible manner.
As always Ride Safe and Ride Free.

Bikers Inside the Beltway: Holding Common Ground
By Wayfarer |
Bikers inside the Beltway – with the encouragement and direction of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, since the first Bikers inside the Beltway in 2009, thousands of bikers have met with their elected representatives and educated them about issues of importance to all street riding motorcyclists.
Specifically… the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has less than 30 days of their 120-day requirement to report to the Senate and House Committee(s) on Appropriations and answer how the agency may be “conducting activities that encourage states to adopt legislation, regulation, or other policies that unjustly profile motorcycle riders.”
The words of former U.S. Representative David Price from North Carolina may well apply to the recent efforts of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation “… Understand that not every battle can be won on the first try and that politics is a matter of striking a balance between … compromising and finding common ground where you can, and fighting where you must.”
The MRF found and is holding common ground among the nation’s state motorcyclist rights organization, motorcycle club members, and all freedom loving motorcyclists who, as the Motorcycle Profiling Project demonstrates, are susceptible to being profiled while riding a motorcycle.
The MRF’s victories, realized in the waning hours of the 117th Congress in December, should drive home Congressman Price’s words, and demonstrate the positive results when common ground is identified and held. Those victories came from the year-after-year vigilance of MRF members writing, calling, and meeting with members of Congress during the Motorcycle Riders Foundation’s annual Bikers inside the Beltway.
Now is the time for you to register to attend Bikers inside the Beltway – May 15 & 16, 2023.
As in years past, Bikers inside the Beltway will be dual-faceted to accommodate in-person visits to Congress plus visits to local district offices.

DIRECT FROM THE MOTORCYCLE RIDERS ASSOCIATION—
Coalitions Rejuvenated
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) 2023 legislative agenda includes a diverse set of issues that strike at the core of who we are as bikers.
Historically, the MRF has fought many battles to defend individuals and the aftermarket motorcycle businesses’ rights to customize and repair motorcycles. Our successful defense against the EPA’s “Color and Chrome” only initiative and the regulations/enforcement related to it helped define the MRF and what we stand for to this day.
The MRF has long supported the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act (RPM Act), which would ensure that modifying motor vehicles into racing vehicles used for competition would not violate the Clean Air Act. We anticipate an updated version of the RPM Act will be introduced this Spring. The MRF and our partners will work diligently for passage of this commonsense piece of legislation. Importantly, some of these parts and technology we are looking to protect are used in the EPA allowances for one-per-lifetime custom bikes and Tier 1 eligible motorcycles we fought for two decades ago.
The MRF agenda also strongly supports the desire to protect a consumer’s right to repair, and ownership of data related to their vehicles. A recently introduced bill, H.R. 906 The Repair Act, helps protect consumers ability to utilize independent repair shops and aftermarket parts to work on vehicles, including motorcycles.
These issues are becoming increasingly important and drawing the attention of the aftermarket industry and bike customizers. The EPA has restarted a campaign of increased enforcement and it is threatening shops and individuals with legal action.
MRF President Kirk “Hardtail” Willard recently appeared on Cycle Source Magazines “Shop Talk” radio show to discuss these issues and this week traveled to Daytona Bike Week to join independent motorcycle shop owners and others in the aftermarket industry to discuss the many issues facing this industry. The meeting was hosted by Chris Cullen of Cycle Source Magazine and moderated by industry icon Bob Kay. Hardtail had this to say about the meeting, “It was encouraging to see both the level of concern and willingness in this group to engage in our efforts and educate other players in the aftermarket industry.”
The MRF won’t tackle these challenges alone, we are aggressively looking to put back together our coalition that was so effective in past battles. In the past the coalition included, the aftermarket industry, media and print publications, other custom vehicle organizations, and other motorcyclists’ rights groups. Lastly, our Master Mechanic and technical expert Dave “Dad” Dwyer is looking to schedule a meeting with the EPA in Detroit to discuss our growing concerns.
These are challenging issues, but with your continued support and the help of other like-minded advocates we will fight to defend the rights and freedoms we cherish.

The Trip to Echo Spring: On Writers and Drinking
by Olivia Laing
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1250039568/
WHY IS IT THAT SOME OF THE GREATEST WORKS OF LITERATURE HAVE BEEN PRODUCED BY WRITERS IN THE GRIP OF ALCOHOLISM, AN ADDICTION THAT COST THEM PERSONAL HAPPINESS AND CAUSED HARM TO THOSE WHO LOVED THEM?
In The Trip to Echo Spring, Olivia Laing examines the link between creativity and alcohol through the work and lives of six extraordinary men: F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, John Berryman, John Cheever, and Raymond Carver.
All six of these writers were alcoholics, and the subject of drinking surfaces in some of their finest work, from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof to A Moveable Feast. Often, they did their drinking together: Hemingway and Fitzgerald ricocheting through the cafés of Paris in the 1920s; Carver and Cheever speeding to the liquor store in Iowa in the icy winter of 1973.
Olivia Laing grew up in an alcoholic family herself. One spring, wanting to make sense of this ferocious, entangling disease, she took a journey across America that plunged her into the heart of these overlapping lives. As she travels from Cheever’s New York to Williams’s New Orleans, and from Hemingway’s Key West to Carver’s Port Angeles, she pieces together a topographical map of alcoholism, from the horrors of addiction to the miraculous possibilities of recovery.
Beautiful, captivating, and original, The Trip to Echo Spring strips away the myth of the alcoholic writer to reveal the terrible price creativity can exert.

BIKER RING OF THE WEEK NEWS–The Cranium Ring by KIL N.Y.C. Debuts, with a Modern Take on the Biker Ring
Brooklyn-based KIL N.Y.C. launches a new skull ring as an homage to biker style.
New York, NY. March 16, 2023. A manifestation of luck, biker rings are traditionally worn to drive death away, for those who choose to live on the wild side. Some believe these rings bring luck on the road, while others believe they are a symbol for salvation. Wearing a skull is not only reminiscent of memento mori, but of immortality, and therefore life. Inspired by superstitious biker rings, Konstantinos Leoussis (founder of KIL N.Y.C.) introduces his take on the classic design with the Cranium Ring. A hand-carved skull sits in a wide tapered band accompanied by pyramid cut colored gemstones, set face up in a bezel setting.
The Cranium Ring is made-to-order, with customizable metal offerings for the wearer, and various gemstone options for the ring shoulders. It is available in either sterling silver or 10K yellow gold, with a choice of amethyst, onyx, garnet, Swiss blue topaz, London blue topaz, smokey topaz, peridot, or rhodolite garnet gemstones in the setting.
When asked what inspires this piece, Leoussis says, “Skulls are a big part of our brand – every iteration of the logo for KIL N.Y.C. has been a skull and some of our most popular pieces are ones that feature skulls. I really wanted to stay true to who we are, while incorporating color into the line. We are starting to experiment with really interesting colored gemstones, and a skull just felt like the right way to introduce that to our audience.”

MOTORCYCLISTS LEAD ATTACK ON TORT REFORM––
In a rare display of muscle both political and physical, angry motorcyclists have crammed hearings at the Florida Capitol demanding changes to fast-moving legislation they fear will blunt their chances of suing when injured in an accident.
Many in the crowd wore ‘Bikers over Billionaires’ T-shirts, mocking Gov. Ron DeSantis’ own ‘Don’t Tread on Florida’ campaign shirts. They’ve been calling out the governor, who they accuse of caving in to insurance companies and other big donors by supporting the legislation.
The tort reform push (HB 837), a priority of DeSantis and House Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast, is set to go before the full House Thursday. The Senate Judiciary Committee approved its version (SB 236) of the measure Tuesday night.

Our new C5205 and C5206 Key Rings with Springs are key rings that have a 2.9mm think ring and a screw-in hasp that is reinforced with a spring.
What makes these rings unique?
Low Lead Solid Brass. Key rings like this are often made from cheaper metals. We made ours in solid brass for extra durability and style.
Secure Connection. The hasps screw in tight, but also are spring loaded for extra security. This way, if the hasp becomes unscrewed, it still remains closed so the keys won’t come off.
Variety. They come in rectangle and oval designs and are available in Natural Brass, Antique Brass, Nickel Plate, Nickel Matte, & PVD Black Matte finishes.
These functional key rings are large and sturdy enough to hold many keys while still having a unique style. Add a loop of leather or other material for a quick customized key fob.

THIS JUST IN FROM THE NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM—
1928 Moto Guzzi
This week, let’s take a look at the 1928 Moto Guzzi, one of a few very fine Italian motorcycles on display at the National Motorcycle Museum. With the last day the doors are open to the public being September 4, 2023, we hope you will plan a visit and view this beautiful machine along with hundreds of other motorcycles from about 1905 forward.
Red seems to be the motor-color of Italy, a favorite color of Moto Guzzi and Ducati, certainly Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. So, in striking red we bring you this nearly 90 year old design from Moto Guzzi, the famed Italian motorcycle company which was formed in 1921.
Exposed flywheels, distinctive horizontal cylinder overhead valve engines and innovative suspension systems set Moto Guzzi apart from other manufacturers. Even today, Moto Guzzi’s V-Twin engine layout, with crankshaft in-line, is distinctive among motorcycle manufacturers.
Giorgio Parodi and Carlo Guzzi, World War I veterans and mechanics, formed Moto Guzzi in 1921. Most single cylinder engines of the time used a side valve vertical cylinder, or were side-valve v-twins. Moto Guzzi’s designs were an unusual horizontal cylinder with exposed overhead valve layout often incorporating “hairspring” valve springs. Also unusual was their design which put a large flywheel on the outside of the engine, which after a time earned the motorcycles the “bologna slicer” or “bacon slicer” nickname. Moto Guzzi introduced its first rear suspension system in 1928, and early on used what we now call “upside down forks” on later models.
As with most auto and motorcycle innovators, Moto Guzzi almost immediately began designing, building and competing with racing motorcycles as a form of advertising. Winning and placing well in numerous races, over time they took eight Gran Prix championships and won 11 Isle of Man races, along the way developing a V8 grand prix engine! Also thinking of the broader needs of their countrymen, much like Cushman they innovated three wheel trucks which worked well in the tight quarters of old Italian cities and in factory compounds.
NEWS FROM THE TERMINATOR—
Have a look at this 75 year old man’s daily routine.
What happens when the Terminator turns 75
Schwarzenegger gets up by six. He makes coffee, putters around, feeds Whiskey (his miniature horse) and Lulu (his miniature donkey), shovels their overnight manure into a barrel, drinks his coffee, checks his email, and maybe plays a quick game of chess online.
At 7:40, he puts a bike on the back of a Suburban and heads from his Brentwood, California, mansion to the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica. From there he sets out on the three-mile bike ride to Gold’s Gym, where he has been lifting on and off since the late ’60s.
The bike ride is his favorite part of the morning. It is also, I learned while following behind him on that foggy day in October, a terrifying expedition.
Schwarzenegger does not wear a helmet and seems to enjoy being recognized, startling commuters with drive-by cameos.
He describes his ride as a kind of vigorous nostalgia trip, a time when the former Mr. Universe, Terminator, Barbarian, Governor of California, etc.—one of the strangest and most potent alloys of American celebrity ever forged—can reconnect with something in the neighborhood of a pedestrian existence.

KYLE WYMAN AND FACTORY HARLEY-DAVIDSON DOMINATE MOTOAMERICA KING OF THE BAGGERS RACE 2 AT DAYTONA SPEEDWAY–
Rispoli and Gillim Fill Out an All-H-D Podium; Rispoli Wins Race 1, Leads Championship
Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle factory rider Kyle Wyman scored a dominating win and topped an all-Harley-Davidson podium in the MotoAmerica Mission King of the Baggers race on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla. Wyman led the entire eight-lap race on the team’s race-prepared Harley-Davidson Road Glide Limited motorcycle, crossing the finish line 8.03 seconds ahead of Vance & Hines/Mission Harley-Davidson teammates James Rispoli and Hayden Gillim. Team Saddlemen teammates Cory West and Jake Lewis finished fourth and fifth to complete a top five sweep of the race for Harley-Davidson Road Glide motorcycles.
“I’m so excited that we got our Harley-Davidson Road Glide motorcycle working so well today,” said Wyman. “This is my first win at Daytona since 2019, and this is such a special place, so a victory here is always special. We had a tough day yesterday, but the entire team just dug in and we had smooth sailing today. You can think of so many scenarios that could happen going into this weekend, but you could not predict either one of these days. It’s a nice way to end the weekend at Daytona. I’m ready to take this momentum to Atlanta.”
After two of 14 rounds in the 2023 MotoAmerica Mission King of the Baggers series, Vance & Hines racer Rispoli leads the championship with 45 points, followed his teammate Gillim with 36 points. Team Saddlemen Harley-Davidson rider Cory West sits third with 26 points, and Harley-Davidson factory rider Kyle Wyman is in fourth place with 25 points. Team Saddlemen’s Jake Lewis is tied for fifth with Factory Indian racer Tyler O’Hara with 21 points.

A nun arrives at the local bar
John was sitting outside his local pub one day, enjoying a quiet pint and generally feeling good about himself, when a nun suddenly appears at his table and starts decrying the evils of drink.
“You should be ashamed of yourself young man! Drinking is a Sin! Alcohol is the blood of the devil!”
Now John gets pretty annoyed about this, and goes on the offensive.
“How do you know this, Sister?”
“My Mother Superior told me so.”
“But have you ever had a drink yourself? How can you be sure that what you are saying is right?”
“Don’t be ridiculous–of course I have never taken alcohol myself”
“Then let me buy you a drink – if you still believe afterwards that it is evil I will give up drink for life”
“How could I, a Nun, sit outside this public house drinking?!”
“I’ll get the barman to put it in a teacup for you, then no one will ever know.”
The Nun reluctantly agrees, so John goes inside to the bar.
“Another pint for me, and a triple vodka on the rocks”, then he lowers his voice and says to the barman “and could you put the vodka in a teacup?”
“Oh no! It’s not that Nun again is it?”

DIRECT FROM GREASY KULTURE–We love ‘The Loveless’ so much we wrote a book about it
I first saw ‘The Loveless’ shortly after it came out in London in the early 1980s. The promise of a B-movie about a ’50s bike gang tearing up a tiny southern town en-route from Detroit to Daytona, with a soundtrack by Robert Gordon, was just too good to resist.
And it didn’t disappoint: Harley captains’ hats, leather jackets, greasy pompadours, Panheads, hep-talk, flick-knives, engineer boots and some superb ’50s-hued production design made it an instant classic for me.
Fast forward 40 years and with a collection of Loveless memorabilia on my shelves – from posters to cinema cards, VHS tapes to the original soundtrack album – I got talking to Jeanette Montgomery Barron who was the stills photographer on the original Loveless set. She introduced me to Monty Montgomery, her brother and the co-director and writer of the film, and the idea for a book was born.
I’d always wondered why and how the film was made, what the inspiration for it was, how Willem Dafoe was chosen to play the main role and how Monty co-directed with Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow. After some fascinating talks with Monty, all my fan-boy questions were answered!
With the addition of some amazingly candid images from Jeanette’s archive, plus stills from the movie courtesy of Arrow Films, the book was quickly moving from concept to reality.
If you’ve seen the film you’ll know how much of the dialogue has become cultishly quotable: “Been out of storage about a year now and to me this endless blacktop is my sweet eternity”, drawls gang leader Vance (Willem Dafoe) at the beginning of the film, musing on his transition from jail cell to the saddle of his Panhead. “I knew I was going to hell in a bread basket!”
Later on as Davis (Robert Gordon) and Sportster Debbie (Tina L’Hotsky) stop for directions, Davis shouts “It don’t matter which way I’m comin’ from, it’s which way I’m goin’ to!”
Our book will be a limited edition, high quality hardback, full of great images and quotes from the film, as well as rare memorabilia and conversations with its writer and director. We’ll let you know when it’s available.
“You never can tell on a day like this… things could be goin’ jake one minute, then, presto… before you know it, you’re history.”

Last weekend in the USA during the Daytona Bike Week, the New York-Rzeszów 2 motorcycle built by the Polish company Game Over Cycles took first place in the ’Chopper/Bobber’ category in the Bike Show Mafia custom bike competition.
The event was held in Florida as part of 2023 Daytona Bike Week, one of the largest motorcycle events in the world, which annually gathers about 500 000 people. The machine from Poland won one more award at the rally.
In another contest, Rat’s Hole Custom Bike Show, the same bike took 3rd place in the “Over 1000 cc Custom” category. Rats Hole is a very prestigious and the longest (since 1952) organized custom bike show in the world.
The New York-Rzeszów 2 motorcycle is a specially modified Harley-Davidson Street Bob, adorned with impressive gold and unique brass elements. The construction includes many handcrafted elements.
The vehicle is also decorated with a custom leather seat and painting made in the pinstriping technique. It is a sister motorcycle of the New York – Rzeszów bike.
The New York – Rzeszów motorcycle, as it is fully named, is an extraordinary custom Harley-Davidson inspired by New York and Polish city of Rzeszów. This is manifested in the unique design of the motorcycle, which contains characteristics of the architecture of given city. These parts are not only elements of ornamentation but also fully functional components of the motorcycle.
The main elements of the construction containing the architecture of given city include wheels with Manhattan buildings engraved in metal, exhaust pipe looking like the famous Chrysler Building, front plow in the shape of old WTC ruins with the “9/11 Never Forget” inscription or seat in the form of the Tadeusz Mazowiecki bridge – the largest bridge in the city of Rzeszów.
The New York-Rzeszów motorcycle was also awarded at the Daytona Bike Week. In 2020, the machine took first place in the “Over 1000 cc Custom” category at the event’s most prestigious competition, the Rat’s Hole Custom Bike Show. “Making of” video presenting how the bike was constructed can be watched here:

FROM THE EAGLE RIDER CREW— Motorcycle Riders Test Different Models Before Purchasing ‘Dream Bike’
By Shawn Fechter, SVP of Brand Experience – EagleRider
For anyone who’s ever seen someone riding down the highway on a motorcycle and thought ‘that looks fun!’, the next thoughts are most likely very daunting. How do I learn to ride? How much is a motorcycle? Which bike is right for me? What would I even do with it after I buy one?
Well, getting in the saddle is a lot easier than you might think! A smart way to explore motorcycle ownership and to know for sure which bike will make you the happiest, is through renting. Not to mention, it’s also a fantastic way to experience adventure and free yourself from the confines of everyday life.
The road before you rent
Deciding to learn how to ride a motorcycle is an exciting step toward a thrilling new adventure, and you will be eager to start. However, there are a few things you should do before you rent a motorcycle.
Find a training course – You’re not required to take a motorcycle training course, but you will need a license to rent. These classes can help familiarize you with the mechanics of riding, and often have a licensing study component. Some, such as the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Basic RiderCourseSM, even have a licensing waiver for certain states. Additionally, some motorcycle dealerships or your state’s DMV might offer training courses.
Get your license – If you decide not to take a training course, you’ll need to study for, practice and get your license on your own. Be sure to connect with your local DMV to learn the requirements for licensure.
A possible progression could start with lighter weight models and go up to heavier/more powerful options. For instance:
Yamaha R3 – Lighter weight which makes it easier to maneuver and brake
Yamaha XSR900 – This cruiser will kick it up a notch with a bit more power
Triumph Bonneville T100 or Scrambler – Responsive for more challenging, scenic roads and hairpins
Mid-Size Harley-Davidson (Softail, Street Glide or Road Glide) – More weight and power, but not at expert level yet
BMW R 1250 GS – Lots of power and torque for incredible speed and performance
With EagleRider’s Club EagleRider membership program, customers can return to test a variety of motorcycles often while experiencing major savings and even join guided tours through America’s most inspiring landscapes and iconic roadways.

The mating pigtails concept was born when a customer emailed us and said that having EFI and component connectors pre-wired as pigtails, with OEM color matching wire, would be awesome. Why not, a MIL SPEC machine crimp, matching wire colors and ready to install, it doesn’t get any easier! The end of the wire is stripped, but the jacket is left to prevent wire fraying.

SNOW OUTLAWS NEWS— snowmobile drag racing series pre-race advance
event: STM Powersports Snow Outlaws Weenie Roast World Finals
when: March 3-4, 2023
where: Lakewoods Resort in Cable, Wisconsin, USA
The STM Powersports Snow Outlaws series 2023 season finished off in some of the best conditions possible. A solid base of ice and snow at Lakewoods Resort in Cable, Wisconsin, sitting in balmy mid-30s midday weather, served up thrilling—if not record setting—snowmobile drag racing to the huge Weenie Roast crowd. And the world’s quickest snowmobiles raced for the biggest Snow Outlaws purse ever at the March 3-4 World Finals.
Outlaw
Tuner Jack Romine predicted that the beautiful Eagle-1 Outlaw sled ridden by Dominick Ernst would be exceptionally well-prepared for this event, and he wasn’t wrong. The turbocharged, alcohol-guzzling Eagle-1 posted a sharp 3.45 on its very first pass of the weekend on Friday evening that was never exceeded. “And it spun a little,” noted an observant Romine.
“Friday night brought a hard challenge with the track being solid concrete,” said Ernst, an electrician on weekdays. “With the power we were putting down with the Snow Sharks that Hypersports produces, we were able to grab the snow and let the Eagle fly. We were able to pull off a 3.45 at 162.70 mph on our first round of qualifying.”
After a first round bye, Ernst beat Alec Gibas and his screw-supercharged, nitro “Hulk.” Gibas was thrilled after round 1 saw all of the GForce Racing team’s sleds advance, but that excitement would ebb as the day wore on.
“Second round brought a tough, tough competitor—Alec Gibas on the ‘Hulk’ sled,” said Ernst. “The team and I were able to pull off the win over Alec and move to the third and final round against Austin Oertel on the nitro ProCharged John Deere sled.
“Austin put up a fantastic race, but with the combination of Glenn Hall tuning our HRC-4 Eagle-1 and with the Snow Sharks underneath the sled, we were able to pull off the win.”
That made for two wins in this warmth-shortened, two-race Snow Outlaws season. “The weekend brought a lot of excitement, from being number one qualifier to getting the number one spot racing on Saturday for myself and the Nyhus Erectors team.”
In addition to the “Hulk,” Ernst had another new supercharged nitro Hypersports build on the grounds to contend with, the “Kawasaki” of Darryl Cuttell. The Hypersports build that defined this platform—the record setting “Grinch” of owner Jeff Ratzlaff and ridden by Mike Allen, was unable to make the Cable trip after an engine failure on the dyno.
Pro-X 55
Like Ernst, Brian Sullivan also swept both wins this season in Pro-X 55 on his own iconic John Deere sled. Sullivan encountered few troubles but faced a tough ladder and tricky track on this particular weekend.
“The track at Cable was very tricky, a little bit trickier than Rice Lake or tracks we’re used to these last two years. The traction was more limited, and trying to find the correct spot and trying to figure out how to get down it as quick as possible was difficult.
“My best pass was the first round on Saturday, a 3.73 or 3.74.” That netted Sullivan the win against Andy Gosch. “We put the power we thought it could handle. It seemed to handle it great and made a real good pass, so we said, ‘Let’s leave it alone for second round.”
Pro Mod
Seventeen year-old Devin Kirane took out some big names on his way to the Pro Mod win, beating Tyler Stelton, Chris Baynes, and Tony Goodsell on his way to the final round win over Blake Saltzman.
“It’s very cool to go out on a highly recognized field and get the win,” said Kirane, riding this sled for the very first time at this event.
Devin has raced mini bikes, quads, and Polaris SXS. His first win at a sanctioned race was 2021 at age 15, when he won Trail Turbo Shootout at the Weenie Roast. He’s currently undefeated in 900 shootout with a sled he built himself called ‘Pandemonium.”
“I’m 61 and raced since I was 16,” said his proud dad Vince Kirane. “Devin has won more races in two years than me my entire career!”

RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE TWISTED ROAD— Motorcycle Tire Safety 101: Required Reading Before Riding
How to Ensure Safe Motorcycle Tires for Renting or Riding
If you’re planning to rent a motorcycle or ride your own, it’s crucial to ensure that your motorcycle tires are safe. Your tires are the only point of contact between your bike and the road. In this article, we’ll discuss how to make sure you are riding on safe motorcycle tires by covering tire pressure, how to read a tire, and other items that will be useful to a rider.
Tire Pressure
Maintaining the correct tire pressure is critical to ensure your motorcycle tires are safe. The correct tire pressure will provide you with better handling, fuel efficiency, and most importantly, prevent accidents.
To determine the correct tire pressure for your bike, refer to the manufacturer’s manual. The recommended pressure may vary depending on the type of motorcycle you have, its weight, and the type of tire.
Always check your tire pressure when the tires are cold. When you’re riding, the friction between the tires and the road creates heat, causing the air in your tires to expand. This expansion can give you an incorrect reading if you check your tires while they’re warm.
To check your tire pressure, you’ll need a tire pressure gauge. Remove the valve cap and attach the gauge to the valve stem. Press down until the gauge stops moving, and read the pressure. If the pressure is too low, add air until it reaches the recommended level. If it’s too high, let some air out until it reaches the recommended pressure.
How to Read a Tire
When it comes to reading a tire, there are a few essential numbers and letters that you should understand. Here’s what you need to know:
Tire Size
You’ll find the tire size on the sidewall of your tire. It will look something like this: 180/55ZR17. The first number (180) refers to the width of the tire in millimeters. The second number (55) is the aspect ratio or the ratio of the tire’s height to its width. The “Z” indicates the speed rating of the tire, and the “R” means the tire is of radial construction. The final number (17) is the diameter of the wheel in inches.
DOT Code
The DOT (Department of Transportation) code is a series of numbers and letters that tell you the tire’s manufacturing location and date. The first two digits indicate the plant where the tire was manufactured, while the last four digits indicate the week and year of production. For example, if you see “0419,” it means the tire was manufactured in the fourth week of 2019. If the tire is more than five years old, it’s time to be replaced.
Load and Speed Rating
You’ll find load and speed ratings on the tire’s sidewall. Load ratings indicate the weight capacity of the tire, while speed ratings indicate the maximum speed the tire can handle.
Other Items to Check
Aside from tire pressure and reading your tire, there are other items you should check to ensure your motorcycle tires are safe. These include:
Tread Depth
Your tire’s tread depth is essential for maintaining traction on the road. You should have at least 1.6mm of tread depth for your tire to be considered safe. Use a tread depth gauge to measure your tread depth.
Cracks, Punctures, and Bulges
Inspect your tires for any signs of damage, including cracks, punctures, and bulges. If you notice any damage, replace your tire immediately.
Wheel Alignment
Check your wheel alignment to ensure that your tires are wearing evenly. Uneven wear can cause your tires to wear out prematurely and affect your bike’s handling.
In conclusion, keeping your motorcycle tires safe is crucial for your safety and the longevity of your bike, especially if you’re renting a motorcycle from a company like Twisted Road Motorcycle Rental.

THE IRS WANTS YOU TO REPORT ILLICIT INCOME–
Did you steal a car in 2022? How about taking a bribe? If you did, the IRS says you should make sure you report it on your taxes.
The requirements can be found in ‘IRS Publication 525 Taxable and Nontaxable Income,’ amid other missives to report income earned from jobs in the gig economy and what to do about taxable alimony payments.
‘If you steal property, you must report its FMV (Fair Market Value) in your income in the year you steal it, unless in the same year you return it to its rightful owner,’ the publication says.
How about if you receive a bribe?

I’m not a scientist at all. I’m a motorcycle freedom fighter and I’ve been fighting for humanity and scientific transparency for over a decade. As you can imagine, the entire motorcycle and auto industry and all the aftermarket organizations have been bullied into submission by the green movement and environmental alarmists (doomsday).
I have done all I can to inform the motorcycle and some of the automotive industry groups of the facts. I am hoping that I might be able to put a coalition of organizations together to sign-off on a resolution to force our lovely government to offer the public scientific transparency (honesty) through a hearing and to put Climate Doom on trial, on a national stage.
The most absurd aspect of this entire debate revolves around scientific integrity which Al Gore threw out the window. Just this issue is destroying our country and much of the world, but I believe we can do something about it, like Ed Berry did in Montana.

U.S. House of Representatives Bill Introduced to Stop California’s Car Ban
Encourage support from lawmakers on this proposal:
U.S. Rep. John Joyce (R-PA) introduced a SAN-supported bill (H.R. 1435) to protect Americans’ right to choose the technology that powers their motor vehicles. The “Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act” was introduced in response to California’s plans to ban the sale of new gas- and diesel-powered cars and trucks in 2035 unless certain conditions are met.
If approved, H.R 1435 would prevent the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from allowing California’s Zero Emissions Vehicle regulations that would ban the sale or use of new motor vehicles with internal combustion engines from taking effect.

Just finished a motorcycle trip to Florida.
They tried to take my sissy bar. All the screws were removed. Luckily, it’s kind of rusted into the bracket so they couldn’t get it off.
I had two barrel bags that stack on top of each other. They got those.
I had a swing arm bag with rain gear, some frequently used tools, and fix a flat foam.
They took it all and my Dayroll.

The old devils are at it again
[Verse 4]
When I say “devils”, you know who I mean
These animals in the dark
Malicious politicians with nefarious schemes
Charlatans and crooked cops
[Verse 5]
Well, moonshine still gets you five to ten
The old devils are at it again
Stripes on your back and a ball and chain
The old devils are at it again
[Verse 6]
Two men stare out of prison bars
Wondering what got ’em here
One saw mud but the other saw stars
Praying that the end is near
[Verse 7]
Well, the billboard outside says “Confess your sin”
The old devils are at it again
I guess I will confess that I’ve been suffering
The old devils are at it again
[Verse 8]
I said the old devils are at it again
Who knows what they’ll do?
And it’s true right now like it was back then
The old devils are at it again
[Outro]
I said the old devils are at it again, oh ho

LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES NEWS–Speed camera’s new best friend?
A tell-tale sign of a car enthusiast – turning your head for every exhaust sound. Unfortunately, you may not be the only one listening. Sound activated cameras are popping up across the country.
Working much like a speed camera, these devices pick up sound over a certain decibel and photograph the vehicle’s license plate, potentially leaving you with a fine and repair order.

WISDOM FOR THE MIDDLE AGED–
“A man settles where he finds peace. Not money, not beauty, not status, but peace.”
“The older you get, the quieter you become. Life humbles you so deeply as you age. You realize how much nonsense you’ve wasted time on.”
Thoughts for the Week
“Some of the most generous people have no money. Some of the wisest people have no education. Some of the kindest people were hurt the most.” ~ Steve Wentworth
“Thoughts lead to purposes; purposes go forth in action; action forms habits; habits decide character; and character fixes our destiny.” ~ Tryon Edwards
“Discipline is doing what needs to be done, even if you don’t want to do it.”
“If it costs you your peace, it is too expensive.” ~ Paulo Coelho
“Blessed is he who has learned to admire but not envy, to follow but not imitate, to praise but not flatter, and to lead but not manipulate.” ~ William Arthur Ward

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY VOCABULARY LESSON OF THE DAY– ceilidh
[ key-lee ] SHOW IPA
noun
a party, gathering, or the like, at which dancing, singing, and storytelling are the usual forms of entertainment.
WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF CEILIDH?
Ceilidh is an adaptation of either Irish Gaelic céilidhe or Scottish Gaelic cèilidh, both from Old Irish céile or céle, meaning “companion.” From here, the deeper origins of ceilidh become murky. One proposal is that ceilidh is distantly related to Latin civis, “citizen,” the source of city and civilization. Ceilidh was first recorded in English in the early 1870s.
EXAMPLE OF CEILIDH USED IN A SENTENCE
The ceilidh, overflowing with dancing and music, went from dusk till dawn in the small countryside village.
IT NEVER ENDS WITH THE BIKERNET CREW—
The weather changes in the Black Hills daily. I suppose some folks call that Climate Doom and hide inside.
It snows for a couple of days, then bada-bing the sun breaks and it blows my mind every time.
I’m working with Jason in China on some stainless rider bells. I’ve worked with a number of Chinese folks over the years and find them delightful and generally very honest. Hell, most of the shit we have was made in China.
We’re global whether we like it or not.
This has been a quirky week. But I believe I’ve made some serious VLXAFL5 progress, while stumbling from time to time. I should have a report completed next week. I want to have the foot controls completed.
Another outside beauty shot. It just doesn’t get any better.
Hit the gun show in Deadwood. Packed with vendors, it was a kick looking for a hunting rifle. I found what was supposedly a 1899 Kraig rifle, modified with a shortened barrel and a flash suppressor. It holds six rounds with one in the chamber and uses rare 30-40 rounds. Again, the boss told me the scope was rare and 1950 vintage. I’ll test it as soon as the weather clears and search for more ammo.
Okay, so let’s relax and watch carefully as the world changes.

It’s Not All Bad
Hey,
Check this from Ray in Australia.
“Difficult times in life are like washing machines; they twist us, spin us and knock us around, but in the end, we come out cleaner, brighter, and better than before.” –Ray Russell

A big 45 flathead fan asked about the Bonne Bell and I found the feature from Cycle Source. I’m waiting for a report on the new engine from Departure Bike Works
