CHERISHED NEW YEAR BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for January 4, 2024

Hey,

I’ve had a slight Woodbridge Whiskey hangover
New Years Day. So, if this isn’t a stellar New Year’s Report, tough shit. But what the hell, I’m going to rattle-down some thoughts about 2023 and 2024.

First, personally 2023 was a very cool year. I learned writing techniques. I was awarded by the MRF for my FREEDOM resolution. I attempted to make use of my books in the entertainment industry and that’s ongoing. We almost made it to Bonneville with a readied streamlined trike. I nearly built a Knucklehead chopper and a 1913 H-D board-track racer. You’ll see the VLXAFL5 base coat paint in the news.

I met some very cool folks, and I feel honored to work with the entire board of directors of the MRF and Bob Kay with the IMA to make a difference across the country regarding the future of our choppers, motorcycle legislation and safety.

As you probably know, we are severely challenged by uninformed citizens who have been fed a line of bullshit for too long. This year the Climate Doomsday scenario started to seriously crack. The truth and freedom star will glow again in 2024.

Okay, so what about 2024, the election year of election years. This is going to be a year of transition to the truth and a year in which integrity must be cherished once more. Whatever side of the political spectrum you’re on, seek the truth and don’t let anyone bullshit you. At the end of the year, I want to kids to know they are living in the best of times. We better be on our toes, alert, active, informed and involved.

Let’s hit the news.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum.

BREAKTHROUGH IN DUBAI–

This year showed ups and downs in our achievements to unmask the deceitful climate alarmists. Fortunately, a positive message came from COP28 in Dubai.

Historic change of direction took place. As might be expected, politicians and the media kept this big change under wraps. I briefly summarize what really took place in Dubai:

1. For the first time in the long series of 28 climate meetings, it was no longer primarily about climate, but almost entirely about energy. During the meeting it gradually became clear that people consider the energy issue far more urgent than the climate issue.

Everything indicates that the scare-mongering narratives about forthcoming climate  disasters have lost credibility.

2. Another spectacular turn of events was that fossil fuels may now be qualified as a “transition fuel”. No firm statements were made about how long that transition should take (as long as needed!). On the other hand, it was stated that nuclear energy may become the new energy source after the transition.

3. Next, the meeting recognized that poor countries have a real chance to develop only if their energy system is going to focus primarily on fossil fuels. The imposition of prohibitively expensive ideological alternatives, such as wind and solar, thus seems to be off the table for good.

Clearly, this startling change will have major implications for the global energy sector. Fossil fuels will continue to be seen as indispensable in the functioning of the global economy for the time being (no surprise that immediately after COP28, stock prices of major oil companies went up).

Of course, it was also concluded that the world should gradually distance itself (“transitioning away”) from fossil energy. That was a last minute carrot for the alarmists.

But they now openly admit that this can only happen responsibly if sound alternatives are in place. It also means that all the foolish demonstrations about stopping fossil fuels immediately, look even more stupid after COP28.

Read more about the COP28 in two excellent commentaries by Samuel Furfari and Ross McKitrick.

QUICK MESSAGE FROM THE CO2 COALITION–

This past year has been a thrilling one to serve as the Executive Director of the CO2 Coalition.

In fact, if you had told me about the whirlwind of change the CO2 Coalition would unleash at the start of this year, I probably wouldn’t have believed it!

We have seen explosive growth in our membership, donor base, publications, staff and, importantly, outreach via television, radio, print and social media.

Right now, leading voices of the Climate Cult are in an uproar as their catastrophic warming fiction comes under fresh assault by our new scientific papers and publications that discredit their claims.

Because of you, the CO2 Coalition has been growing, publishing, researching, and expanding our outreach efforts to the public …

… and it’s because of you that we have systematically advanced our message of an Earth that is thriving and prospering because of CO2 – emphasizing the real climate science, and not the hyperbolic rubbish that has been passed off as “science” for decades.

I am so grateful for your partnership with the CO2 Coalition. Frankly your financial support has enabled the CO2 Coalition to help change the national Climate debate.

ELECTRIC BUSES NEWS– paralyzed in Oslo–From ASB Zeitung:

Oslo, Norway – Winter is here and with it the freezing cold. And now public transport is also paralyzed. Oslo’s brand new fleet of electric buses is not designed for these temperatures – their batteries are failing miserably in the icy cold.

Too cold for the batteries. That means folks are stranded in the snow.

The transport operator confirms that the electric buses are simply not reliable enough in winter: “The range of the electric buses decreases drastically in the cold. The batteries run out more quickly.” In total, around 140 departures were affected.

HERO MotorCorp TEASES— big bike based on Harley-Davidson X440, likely to unveil on January 22

Hero MotoCorp has teased a new motorcycle which is possibly to come as a premium big bike based on the Harley-Davidson X440. The homegrown two-wheeler manufacturer has teased the big bike through an audio clip. The deep brassy exhaust note is similar to the Harley-Davidson X440, which fueled the speculation that a big bike from India’s number one two-wheeler brand is coming.

The two brands jointly launched the Harley-Davidson X440 motorcycle in India in 2023 at Rs. 229,000 (ex-showroom) approximately US $ 2,750. This made the X440 the most affordable Harley-Davidson in its history.

The new motorcycle will be carrying the Hero badge but having the 440X engine. How much does Harley-Davidson get paid from sales is unknown but the motorcycle isn’t likely to have any H-D logo or design. It is rumoured to compete with the other bikes popular in that price range.

The “R” could suggest a roadster.

With letters M, V, R, I revealed in teasers, it is almost certain that Hero’s new flagship will go on sale as Mavrick 440 Many brands including Jawa, Yezdi, Honda, Triumph and Harley-Davidson have challenged the supremacy of Royal Enfield. Now, it’s the turn of India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp to launch its offensive. The bike in question is a 440cc roadster, based on the same platform as that of Harley-Davidson X440.

SOURCE MEDIA ROLLS OUT GREASE & GEARS TV

After 27 years of print magazine publication, The Source Media Group, Cycle Source Magazine, Track Side Report and Torque Performance publishers have launched their motorcycle media brand into the future. Grease & Gears TV, a three-year project to bring motorcycle media back to televisions and beyond, has started to pick up speed. After the initial soft launch during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Grease & Gears is growing strong.

Due to the enormous support from Dennis Kirk, Grease & Gears is now available on Apple and Andriod devices, Roku, and Firestick. So, no matter where you are or what screen you want to watch it on, 24/7 motorcycle entertainment is at your fingertips.

So, what is it? “It’s kinda like Netflix for motorcycle riders.” Explains Chris Callen, President of Source Media Group. It’s a collection of stories from the road, inside the garage, and collected over our travels. The great events we go to and the incredible bikes we see all with a deeply personal connection since it is no longer their interpretation of what someone said, but their voice brought to life through video and contained in a place where it will live on forever.

The channel is, as Callen went on to say, “…nothing different than the work we have done for three decades. Subscribers pay us to deliver stories on motorcycles, the people who build them, and the places they go on them. Same thing here. We just have another dimension with the video component.” While this is nothing new in social media, as many YouTube sites now focus on motorcycle media, the difference, Callen says, is that Grease & Gears exists outside of the algorithm. Nothing slows the roll for people who want to see great motorcycle media, not even commercials, since they do not exist on Grease & Gears TV.

Collaborators are a big part of what makes it run. With nearly a dozen content creators, some of your favorite personalities like Professional Monkey, Jason Sims, and even Michael Lichter have a home on Grease & Gears where their content can be accessed. With hundreds of hours of programming already up and running, you can expect the regular delivery of fresh new content from the whole team.

In addition to great motorcycle entertainment, and depending on your subscription level, there are giveaways, exclusive content, monthly drawings for prizes, and even talks of “Subscriber Only” events at rallies like Sturgis and Daytona. Source Media has always been strict about its value-added approach to its print magazine over the years, and Callen indicated that this will have the same values. “I always think about the person that sets down their five or ten bucks for a magazine. That’s hard-earned money, and if they give it to me to show them part of the world that I get to see, I’m gonna make sure they get more than their money’s worth.”

While the magazine will continue to be published digitally and in print, this new chapter for Source Media has found new life in media. While citizen journalism has done a very good job in the last ten years to promote the motorcycle business, there is something about the tried and true methods of journalists who have made telling these stories, asking questions, and making sure regular people are counted, an honest approach that will provide longevity to our culture.

WIND FOR ENERGY?

NOT WITHOUT OIL…

How Much Oil Do Wind Turbines Use?

As the world seeks cleaner sources of electricity, renewable energy is heralded for not burning fossil fuels to produce energy.

However, wind turbines contain moving parts and they require lubricants to operate at peak performance due to environmental and mechanical pressures.

The amount of oil used by a wind turbine varies greatly depending on the size and type of turbine. A small turbine for powering the home only requires a very small amount of oil, whereas the largest offshore wind turbines regularly need topping up with large amounts of oil and other lubricants to keep them running efficiently.

Proper maintenance including the use of oil ensures the reliability of cost-effective wind energy.

As the fleet of wind turbines ages, many are entering a post-warranty period. This means that equipment repairs are becoming more costly for wind farm owners. Thus, proper maintenance including the use of oil to prevent equipment failure is critical to reduce costs and promote renewable energy production.

Why do wind turbines need oil?

Lubrication protects wind turbines from premature wear of many critical parts so they operate at maximum performance for greater productivity. Grease oil and grease are used in the gearbox, pitch gear, open gear, and yaw gear.

Wind turbines contain moving parts and without proper lubrication, this movement causes excessive friction. Most wind turbines contain turbine blades that spin the rotor. The nacelle sits on top of the wind turbine tower and contains the gearbox, generator, controller, and break.

Dust or other airborne particles can be abrasive, leading to equipment failure. Thus, adequate lubrication is critical for avoiding these issues.

Unfortunately, gearboxes are somewhat prone to failure. Variations in wind speed and direction, vibration, and the ingress of water or moisture can create wear and tear, making it vulnerable to breakdowns. Factors that can adversely affect the main gearbox include variations in wind speed and direction, temperature, vibration, and the ingress of moisture. These factors make the gearbox a vulnerable component of a turbine’s drivetrain.

One common issue in gearboxes is micropitting, a unique gear failure mode that occurs in a rolling or sliding contact environment. If left unchecked, it can lead to teeth breaking and the need to replace gears. Unfortunately, replacing a gearbox causes wind farm downtime, leading to operating losses. However, micropitting can be minimized with adequate lubrication, reducing repair costs and wind energy production losses.

In wind turbines, micropitting occurs due to a constantly changing load. In addition, lack of lubricant film thickness, viscosity issues, or foaming can contribute to micropitting in wind turbines. Unfortunately, water and moisture in the gearbox can impact the performance of lubricants, and is difficult to remove water without changing the oil.

Changing the oil in a wind turbine gearbox is a challenging yet essential task that requires several technicians and hours of time. Periodic analysis of the lubricants through oil sampling and oil debris monitoring can help determine when this needs to be completed.

The best way to determine the ideal lubricants, fill volume, and removable filters are to refer to information from the wind turbine OEM. Typically, the oil fill volume is 60% of the gearbox capacity.

In some cases, changing the oil in the gearbox requires merely draining and filling. However, when converting to a new wind turbine gear oil with poor oil compatibility with the previous lubricant or when there are gearbox deposits and contamination, it is critical to flush and perhaps even clean before filling.

HANG ON FOR THIS

At the moment, the average wind farm has 150 turbines. Each wind turbine requires 80 gallons of oil for lubrication, and this isn’t vegetable oil; this is a PAO synthetic oil based on crude… 12,000 gallons for one 150-turbine wind farm. Once a year, its oil must be replenished.

To power a city the size of New York, it is estimated that about 3,800 turbines would be required… For just one city, that’s 304,000 gallons of refined oil.

WORDS FROM THE THOUGHT TEMPLE–Embracing the Essence of True Success

What defines genuine success? Is it the accumulation of material possessions, wealth, fame, or power? While these external markers may play a role, I am convinced that true success is anchored in inner contentment and a profound sense of certainty. Possessions alone do not unlock the door to success; one can possess great wealth and yet grapple with persistent sadness and grief. It’s not about the possessions themselves, but the intention behind them.

I firmly believe that authentic success emanates from within, echoing the wisdom of the Mahabharata, which asserts, “treasures cannot be found while one is a slave to objective appearances or lacks control of one’s thoughts.” In essence, success, even in our external pursuits, hinges on a stable mind, unwavering purpose, and focused effort.

Affirming my journey today: I uncover the perfection within me. I acknowledge that my path is illuminated by the Spirit within, a guiding, guarding force that abundantly supplies me with all the good I am open to receiving. Throughout my day, I turn inward to reconnect with the profound source within me. Success fills my soul, radiating from the inside out. Love, joy, peace, health, wealth, and creative self-expression abound in my life.

LOOK WHAT’S HAPPENING AT WHEELS THROUGH TIME

Today, we’re giving you a behind-the-scenes look at?…

The 1937 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead restoration.

Each year, when we choose the raffle bike, we think about two things: selecting a bike that holds a special place in American motorcycle history and styling it in a way that sets it apart.

“The Gold Standard of American Motorcycles,” the 1936 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead has, from its inception, been the machine that set the standard for motorcycle performance. Harley’s first overhead-valve big twin, the 61c.i. engine is a true powerhouse packed with performance.

The H-D factory offered five standard colors in 1936: green, red, gray, maroon, and blue. However, they also allowed people to request custom factory paint schemes. We chose to go with one of these custom schemes with H-D gold, brilliant black, and striped with red.

This combination was pulled from a paint rolodex that belonged to former H-D paint shop employee “Harley” Charlie Stahl. This rolodex contains samples of many of the custom orders from H-D customers of the era.

Over 300 hours of work went into this machine’s careful and purposeful restoration to ensure that it is just as beautiful and performs just as it did when it rolled off the motor company floor.

In 2024, one lucky person will be welcomed into the Wheels Through Time “Winner’s Circle” and ride home on this classic piece of Americana.

BIKERNET HISTORY LESSON

On December 30, 1912, Lee Humiston, using a 1,000 cc twin cylinder chain driven Excelsior circled the banked one-mile oval track at Prince’s Playa del Rey, California in 36 seconds flat to become the first motorcyclist in the world “officially” timed at 100 mph.

One week after his milestone accomplishment, “The Humiston Comet,” as he was promptly nicknamed by the press, surpassed Jake DeRosier’s record for 100 miles, trimming nearly seven and a half minutes from the fatally injured rider’s best time. Excelsior had won the race to the magic 100 mph mark and they had smashed the Indian-held record for the 100-mile distance as well.

The publicity was enormous. Every school boy in America knew that a man had traveled at 100 miles per hour on a motorcycle, and that he had accomplished this feat on an Excelsior built in Chicago.

New TECH Bikernet Reader Comment!–How to build the 45 Magnum Engine

https://www.bikernet.com/pages/How_to_build_the_45_Magnum_Engine.aspx

I have tried (Dec 2023) to contact Duncan Keller thru the numbers you have, his facebook page and thru Paughco. PaughCo and a friend of his on FB said they would try and have him contact me. I’m not sure if he was contacted, but if so, I respect his desire for privacy and to not respond. I have a chopped trike project bike and the major parts for a 45 Magnum; 45 cases and cam cover as well as complete front and rear 900 cc ironhead Sporty jugs and heads w/valves.

With all that said, I don’t have the skills or tools to build a 45 Magnum myself. Is there anyone (or even Duncan, if he hasn’t yet been told I’m trying to contact him) who could help? Many ThanX! in advance, Lonnie Adkins (618) 363-4003

Hey Lonnie,

I spoke to Duncan. He’s too busy to take on your project, but he will be glad to speak to you about it. There are other engine rebuilders and you might consider joining the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. They have tremendous resources for projects like yours.

THE METHANE QUESTION—

Once in a while, when the alarmist or doomsayers believe they are losing their alarmist footing, they go after any other doomsday scenario they can grab, like Methane. Here’s some data:

–By W. A. van Wijngaarden and W. Happer

The CO2 Coalition is pleased to present a new paper in our Climate Issues in Depth series, titled Methane and Climate. The paper was written by CO2 Coalition founder and board member Will Happer, a Princeton physics professor, and W. A. van Wijngaarden, of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at York University, Canada. Happer recently served as director of emerging technologies at the National Security Council, where he was President Trump’s top adviser on climate science.

The paper’s Abstract explains that while the “radiative forcing” of each methane molecule is indeed 30 times larger than that of a carbon dioxide molecule, the increase in global methane is 300 times less than that of carbon dioxide. As a result, methane is only one tenth (30/300) as powerful in forcing as carbon dioxide, which adds a fraction of a degree Celsius to global warming as it doubles in the atmosphere. A methane doubling would provide only a tiny fraction of total greenhouse forcing, the paper says.

The paper uses spectroscopic measurements from the HITRAN data base of the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories. The minute effect of methane emissions is summarized by numbers and figures in the paper.

The Life: Powered Initiative of the Texas Public Policy Foundation included the paper as the scientific basis for a letter submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency opposing the regulation of methane during oil and gas extraction and pipeline transportation. Some states and countries have been imposing restrictions on extraction, pipelines, and animal husbandry because of fears of methane’s warming potential. Even “cow farts” have been cited as a concern for Green New Deal legislation, which calls for the end of fossil-fueled energy. Over 80 percent of U.S. and world energy comes from fossil fuels.

Raffle off memberships if you have enough people involved. $5 is a fun little donation that people seem more willing to spend. But we’ve found that maintaining those new memberships works best if we keep in contact with those members and get them involved on some level.

In the next couple of days Bikernet will bring you an
Interview with Lowbrow Artist Kelly Campanile one of this years contributors.

Kelly Campanile’s art is a riot of humor and irreverence, brought to life with a palette of bright, bold colors and exaggerated, cartoonish forms. She’s not just an artist; she’s a trailblazer, pushing the boundaries of what’s expected.

BIKERNET MOVIE REVIEW—Sound of Freedom

We watched a 2023 American crime thriller film directed and co-written by Alejandro Monteverde, and starring Jim Caviezel, Mira Sorvino and Bill Camp.

Caviezel plays Tim Ballard, a TSA government agent who strikes out on a mission to rescue children from sex traffickers in Colombia. It is produced by Eduardo Verástegui, who also plays a role in the film.

The film released on July 4, 2023, by Angel Studios was a sleeper hit, but it became one of the most successful independent films in history. It grossed $250 million against a $14.5 million budget. Critics didn’t like it, but we did and so did the public. It’s a very down to earth film, not a block-buster action adventure. It’s about a very bad side of our society happening now and it hits home, especially if you have kids.

It’s estimated that 27 million people are in “modern-day slavery” across the globe. In 2008, the U.S. Department of State estimates that 2 million children are exploited by the global commercial sex trade. In the same year, a study classified 12.3 million individuals worldwide as “forced laborers, bonded laborers or sex-trafficking victims”. Approximately 1.39 million of these individuals worked as commercial sex slaves, with women and girls comprising 98% of that 1.36 million.

In 2012, the ILO estimated that 21 million victims are trapped in modern-day slavery. Of these, 14.2 million (68%) were exploited for labor, 4.5 million (22%) were sexually exploited, and 2.2 million (10%) were exploited in state-imposed forced labor.

Check out the film. Seems like something that needs serious attention.

QUICK, OPEN THE BANDIT’S CANTINA BAD JOKE LIBRARY FOR 2024–

I just burned 1,200 calories. I forgot the pizza in the oven.

Who knew that the hardest thing about being an adult is figuring out what to fix for dinner and doing it every single night for the rest of your life until you die?

I hate it when people act all intellectual and talk about Mozart when they’ve never even seen one of his paintings.

Never trust an electrician with no eyebrows.

So my neighbor knocked on my front door at 3 a.m. 3AM!!! Luckily I was already up playing the bagpipes.

Instead of cleaning my house, I just watch an episode of “The Hoarders,” and think, “Wow! My house looks great.”

REMEMBER THIS CENTERSPREAD FROM LAST WEEK?

I bought it at Ron and Sandy’s Mid America Auction in Las Vegas 2003. Was sold by the 78-year-old daughter of the original purchaser. She was a really nice lady from Washington State and she sent me the history of the machine and a few Christmas cards until she passed away. John Parham, Dale Walksler, & Dave Minerva were there also and all enthusiastically endorsed my purchases. We all remained friends from that day forward.

This 14 original paint Harley and a ’12 OP Indian single were the only two motorcycles in the entire auction that interested me. I figured the Harley would go too high so I bought the Indian. Then the H-D came on the block and I was bidding against the same buyer. He was building a restaurant and wanted both only as decor. I ended up with both machines, threw my plane ticket in the trash, rented a Budget truck, loaded the ’12 Indian, ’14 Harley and a ’15 Harley Twin that Dale Walksler bought and headed back to Texas.

Got stopped before going over the Hoover Dam by security worried that I had a load of fertilizer and diesel fuel and asked me to open the rear door, allowing the entire line of people in vehicles behind to see inside the truck. It was obvious there were only three small teens motorcycles in the rear of a 24-foot box truck, but the officer started to climb up in the back. I grabbed his gun belt and pulled him back to the ground and told him these were all extremely rare vintage motorcycles worth a lot of money and he had no business going up there.

Furthermore, I have to make a stop tonight somewhere around Phoenix and you just let everyone see what’s in the back of this truck. I want your name, Captain’s name and number if this truck gets stolen. Luckily, he let me go.

The ‘14 required nothing but fresh oil & gas and fired right up. It still gets started annually and rides great.

MORE INSPIRATION FROM THE TEMPLE–The Irreversible Time

How often do we understand that we could use our time better, and regret that we didn’t spend it wisely? How often do we dream of how good it would be to amend things we did or didn’t do long ago? The older we get, the longer and thicker are the shadows of the past, and what’s important here is not holding on to them. We cannot turn the clock back, but we can do our best today to make tomorrow a happier time.

As you know, most mornings I do a writing which I love to share with you. Besides writing I have some other Spiritual practices which I do. One of them is a daily reflection of the yesterday that helps me reset for the time gift of a today.

I cherish time and these questions help me make the best of it.

Time is a gift, we don’t know how much time we have, use it wisely.

I would like to share the questions that I ask myself, you may to choose to ask yourself some of these questions or even add your own.

These are my questions that I use to keep me on track.

How do I feel about yesterday, this morning? Did I stay in Principle?

What Glad Surprises did I have?

Did I look for Good in all? Did I refrain from judging?

Did I give any of My Power away to anyone?

Who or what had a positive or negative effect on me yesterday? How did I feel about it?

Did I think it out thoroughly before I made the decision? If major, how much time did I take before I made it? Do I have a plan?

In what way am I using the Creative Process to create what I want in my Life?

What was the best part of my day yesterday?

What are one or more tasks I will accomplish today?

What are 5 or more things that I am Grateful for?

It only takes me about 10 minutes to answer these questions and I can tell you that my day goes much better when I Pause to answer them.

Use them if you like.

We all have 24 hours, let’s make the best of each minute within those 24 hours.

Namaste’

CLIMATE DOOMSDAY

SO, WHAT’S THE REAL DEAL, THE TRUE SCIENCE?

CARBON DIOXIDE CO2 IS NOT A POLLUTANT

More carbon dioxide will help everyone including future generations. CO2 is the essential food for land-based plants. The Earth’s biosphere has experienced a relative CO2 famine for millions of years, but the recent increase in CO2 levels with the use of Fossil Fuels has had a measurable, positive effect on plant life.

FUTURE CO2 INCREASES WILL BOOST FARM PRODUCTIVITY, IMPROVE DROUGHT RESISTANCE, BOLSTER FOOD SECURITY AND HELP CREATE A GREENER, LUSHER PLANET.

YOUR UPSWEPT PIPES HELP

CHALLENGING NET ZERO WITH SCIENCE

Net Zero Plans are dangerous and unsupported by science. Six hundred million years of geological evidence shows that CO2 levels are near a record low and that atmospheric increases of the gas follow warming periods rather than precede them. This is enough to debunk the notion that CO2 is a dominant driver of global temperatures.

THE FIRST WEEK STARTED WITH A BANG—Gina Woods wants to kick off the year with an OpenRoadRadio.com interview with me and Marilyn Stemp. We’re going to discuss the hot and crazy motorcycle and lifestyle news items from last year. Hang on.

It finally let loose with over a foot of snow.

Back at Sturgis Leathers, I had a snap added to keep that monster .45 from jumping out of the holster. Stoney is going to modify the handle to fit my hand and then we go shooting.

Helping John’s ’60 Panhead come together. He needed some clutch parts and I had them.

He also chose to go with a 22-tooth transmission sprocket. I generally run a 24-tooth. I had the smaller one.

I just needed one 4-speed transmission kicker cover gasket and wondered why it was so expensive. They sent me a dozen.

Amazing, Chopper Dave has finally cast our point cover coasters. Final stage is enameling. Let’s see if they’re ready for Xmas next year.

Tim from flat earth ran across this ER mag. He painted the graphics on the cover bike tank. I’m going to meet with him tomorrow about my VLXAFL5 stuff.

He will add pinstriping and graphics to the Tank and Fender. Then the TNT crew will add the final clear and hopefully make the white creamier. We’ll see.

There you have it and more. Life is amazing and can be so rewarding. I’m hoping by the end of the year we will see a resurgence of Freedom and opportunity for good.

Let’s get to work.

The Run to the Black Hills

The Bandit’s Cantina Episode 104
by Bandit

“Sorry,” Bandit shouted from the top of the stairs as he headed down with his bedroll packed. “I just sold the Cantina to a strip-club purveyor for over 2 million. “It will be called Ship Wreck Joey’s in three months and they’ll bring thugs to clear your no-home, drug-addicts out of the parking lot.”

The broad from the mayor’s office looked sorta wide-eyed. “I had the brothers interview every homeless credent shitting on our sidewalks. Not one moved here with the intentions of buying a home. They came here because you promised them free, tax-payer financed drugs. I hope that’s working for you,” Bandit said and made his way out to his chopper where the bros waited.

RFR’s message on 2023 to 2024

So I have night lights in the garage as the front half shop lights are on a plug at the bench, it’s not actually this bright, as this is a 3 second phone image. It’s handy when I forget stuff and have to go back downstairs, it’s not really site worthy, I just liked the shot! Not sure how long there will be 3, as I struggle to keep 2 on the road. Unfortunately the work truck Dyna, is sickly, however of the 3 if one must leave. FYI there is an FXRP fairing with turn signals and mount in California if you want to get me a late Christmas/early birthday gift?

The other image I posted on Instagram said “Closing out 2023, lm not just pretty, I’m beautiful too”. It got a few AI generated fake girl account likes, so it must be true! We’ll see how I hold up in 2024.

I just saw the FXR post, already over 900 likes & only 2 negative comments and they got railed, everyone said they ought to make tee shirts! I’m waiting for the midnight fireworks to calm some, get some sleep, for my early morning New Years Day ride, I’m not sure how many years I’ve done it, 20-25? I like to start the year off right!

Happy New Year!

Source Media Rolls Out Grease & Gears TV

Pittsburgh, PA – After 27 years of print magazine publication, The Source Media Group, Cycle Source Magazine, Track Side Report and Torque Performance publishers have launched their motorcycle media brand into the future.

So what is it?

You can get more information by heading over to www.greasengearstv.com today. Take a look around and see what all the buzz is about.

About Source Media Group:

Source Media is the parent company of Cycle Source Magazine. Now, a 27-year history in bringing motorcycle news, information, and entertainment to the masses, a branch of the media company today. With arms in video, podcasting, multi-casting, and video work, Source Media spans a monthly average reach of nearly 2.5 million. With their weekly show ShopTalk, Promoters of the SmokeOut Rally, live broadcasts from events, and now their own television network in Grease & Gears TV, Source Media would like to think they have transitioned from what was the definition of a motorcycle media company in the nineties when they first started to publish. Still, at its core, this is a grassroots company with the common man’s perspective at the forefront of what they do. You can expect the same approach to continue as they move into the next frontier of Moto-journalism. www.cyclesource.com

THE ELECTRIC FILES–India’s Government may end subsidy on electric two-wheelers: Report

Earlier this year, the government had already reduced the subsidy, which resulted in a decrease in the demand for electric two-wheelers. However, the demand seems to be stabilizing now, leading government officials to argue that the transition to cleaner-fuel vehicles will happen naturally due to the economic advantages of running them, despite their higher initial cost.

The subsidy for electric two-wheelers is expected to end in a few weeks as the government is not keen on introducing the third phase of Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (or FAME III), according to the Times of India.

As per the report, the finance ministry and other wings of the government do not see any merit in extending EV subsidies.

GRAMP’S RANTS–by J.J. Solari, the Methless-Methuselah Mouseketeer

Calling the enemy “terror” is a government/journalism tactic to avoid you putting an identity on actual humans trying to kill you for not joining their religion.

Fighting terror is impossible. But you are supposed to think it’s something actually sensible and noble. All the while what it really is, is government and journalists being on the side of the enemy and calling you an idiot and priming you for your slaughter. So far, they’ve been right.

Calling the enemy terror is like calling firearms a health crisis, calling oil as having something to do with fossils, calling hairspray and air conditioners a destroyer of the ozone layer, calling Jan 6th an insurgency, calling looting reparations, calling healthy people a threat to the sick, calling something a vaccine that does not come under the definition of a vaccine, calling you losing your job “keeping everyone safe,” calling carbon dioxide a “greenhouse gas that leaves footprints” when there is actually no such thing as a greenhouse gas much less one that leaves footprints, and then there’s the one about the earth actually being a greenhouse – which in reality is glass-enclosed building which is heated by trapped incoming infrared light radiation. Not by carbon dioxide heating up the interior.

You’ll notice no greenhouse in history has ever erupted into explosive flames due to “overheating.” However, in government-journalistland earth is a greenhouse. Earth will someday be declared by these two petri dishes of diseased souls as being Paradise once everyone on it is extinct. Then the government “employees” and the journalists will buttfuck each other into Green Monkey Rectal Disease oblivion and Gaia will rejoice by masturbating her own Earthtwat with a mighty Redwood whilst singing the Peter, Paul and Mary songbook.

You see, government “employees” and journalist “reporters” get away with these “let’s see how fucked up these zombies are” experiments because so far, they haven’t hit the Pushback Zone. Because apparently there isn’t one. The zombies are, in fact, at this point, actually zombies. Stay listless my friend.

The Master Comes to Bikernet

I’ve heard a lot about Steve Huntzinger, and his restorations. I admire his determination to bring these old motorbikes back to the exact specs they were built by, and his attention to getting it right, no matter how long it takes.

Oh man, it would be priceless to serve as an apprentice for like-minded people who show abilities and a love for getting history right like Mr. Huntzinger does.

My hope is that the likes of men like Steve Huntzinger and Matt Walksler will be around for many years to come, so great American craftsmanship from years gone by will be kept alive. Thank You Gentlemen

TV MENTION OF THE WEEK

Check out Episode 4 of Season 2 of Amazon Prime’s JACK REACHER — based on the novels by Lee Child.

In episode 4, Reacher and his 3 former-comrades take down a biker gang who corner them in a parking lot.

Do you really imagine that’s how a Motorcycle Club would approach a target already described as dangerous and needing more manpower than a handful? Also, I would reckon, at least some of the guys in each biker club would have done military service at some point or other.

ENTER THE BIKERNET BEER GARDENS–Could Loosen Up Lager and be the perfect garage beer?

Deep in the rustbelt, there exists a place with so much iron oxide that fighting it has become as regular an occurrence as oil changes or tire rotation. This battle has become so routine that the products and creations made to combat the flecks of red and brown began to be exported. PB Blaster is headquartered northwest of the birthplace of American steel in Cleveland and has been helping the everyman wage war on rusty hardware for years. Now one brewery is helping us celebrate victory against rust, or at least have a cold consolation prize as we put our tools away.

Collision Bend Brewing Company might sound like they are more likely to create a “paint-match pilsner” or “insurance estimate ale,” but instead it was head brewer Ben Northeim who created the Loosen Up Lager, which is now all we want in our garage fridge. “B’laster actually reached out to us back in the summer and wanted to make a beer,” said Northiem via email. “How could we say no to doing a collaboration with another Cleveland company?”

If there are characteristics of a garage beer, Loosen up Lager seems to have all of them: Easy drinking, available in a can, and reasonable alcohol by volume (5.2%). Northiem let us know that drinkers can expect tasting notes of toasted bread, caramel, toffee, and a very slight nuttiness. We can now all rejoice that the decision to make it taste like the real PB B’laster was immediately nixed. Of course, PB Blaster is not fit for human consumption, but ask anyone who has been rolling around under a car trying to get exhaust hardware off and they will tell you that they unintentionally discovered exactly what B’laster tastes like.

So, we can say with confidence what this doesn’t taste like, but if you want to taste it for yourself, you better act fast. This first batch of Loosen Up Lager is only available for a limited time—very limited according to Northeim. Use Collision Bend Brewery’s website to find your six pack. If you miss out like we likely will, just know that Northiem tipped us off that another round is on the way, but the exact release is under wraps a bit longer.

FROM ENERGY TALKING POINTS

So, I’ve compiled 25 true, succinct, powerful facts about energy and climate. Each “Power Fact” has significant implications and should make any honest person think twice about the anti-fossil-fuel narrative.

Together these facts show that the world needs more, not less, fossil fuels for as many people as possible to be productive, prosperous, and safe from climate—a job that cannot be done by unreliable solar and wind.

The 25 Power Facts are organized into 4 categories (“we cut it down. Alex gets sorta long-winded”—Bandit):

Fossil fuels make us far safer from climate. (4 facts)

Here’s one: Annual deaths from climate-related causes (extreme temperature, drought, flood, storms, wildfires) have declined 98% over the last 100 years, even as CO2 levels have risen.¹

Global fossil fuel use is increasing, and the energy-poor world needs even more to power life-saving machines. (5 facts)

Here’s are three:

Fossil fuel use is 80% of the world’s energy and still growing despite 100+ years of aggressive competition and 20+ years of political hostility and massive solar and wind favoritism.5

There is a desperate need for far more of the global-scale cost-effective energy that only fossil fuels can provide near-term: ? of the world uses wood and animal dung for heating and cooking, and 3 billion use less electricity than a typical American refrigerator.6

Since 1980, India’s fossil fuel use has increased by 700 percent and China’s by 600 percent. In the same time frame, India’s life expectancy increased by 17 years and China’s by 14. 7

The “green” movement catastrophizes the future climate side-effects of fossil fuels, which are completely masterable. (8 facts)

Here are two:
The US Annual Heat Wave Index from the EPA has said, “Longer-term records show that heat waves in the 1930s remain the most severe in recorded U.S. history.” (Today’s “reporting” would give you no indication that this is the case.)¹6

Mainstream science is unanimous that the warming impact of CO2 diminishes (“logarithmically”) as it increases in concentration. Every new molecule of CO2 we add to the atmosphere has less of a warming effect than the previous one.¹7

Unreliable solar and wind are not anywhere near able to replace fossil fuels. (8 facts)

Here are two:
Battery backup for solar and wind is so expensive that just 3 days of global backup using Elon Musk’s Megapacks would cost $570 trillion, about 6X global GDP.¹8

Solar and wind never provide the exact amount of electricity that is needed. Electricity requires exactly matching supply and demand, and solar and wind on their own exactly match supply with demand 0% of the time.¹?

THE WIND FLOP FILES–Federal Judge Sides with Osage Nation, Orders Removal Of 84 Wind Turbines.

The Osage Nation won a massive ruling in Tulsa federal court on Wednesday that requires Enel to dismantle a 150-megawatt wind project it built in Osage County despite the tribe’s repeated objections. The tribe’s fight against Rome-based Enel began in 2011 and is the longest-running legal battle over wind energy in American history.

As reported by Curtis Killman in the Tulsa World on Thursday, the ruling grants the United States, the Osage Nation, and Osage Minerals Council permanent injunctive relief via “ejectment of the wind turbine farm for continuing trespass.”

The decision by U.S. Court of International Trade Judge Jennifer Choe-Graves is the culmination of 12 years of litigation that pitted the tribe and federal authorities against Enel. During the construction of the project, the company illegally mined rock owned by the tribe, and it continued to do so even after being ordered by the Bureau of Indian Affairs to stop. Instead of halting work, the company sped up construction. Enel must now remove the 84 turbines that it built on 8,400 acres of the Tallgrass Prairie located between Pawhuska and Fairfax. Removing the turbines will cost Enel some $300 million.

ONE OF THE BIKERNET NEW YEAR QUOTES

TECH ARTICLE COMING TO BIKERNET

I’m rebuilding a 4-speed transmission for John 1960 Panhead project. The trans case in not 1960, but maybe 1967. The mainshaft is pre-electric start.

I watched Frank Kaisler’s R.I.P. rebuild video on the lowbrow Youtube file. I watched another one. I read the manual. I spoke to builders like Lee Clemens.

So, when it’s all said and done. I’ll write a report including my notes and suggestions from contributors far and wide.

Believe me, there’s a lot to learn.

MANDATORY INDOCTRINATION— UC San Diego’s Climate Change Education Requirement

Continuing the transformation of universities from education to indoctrination centers, the University of California, San Diego, has announced the Jane Teranes Climate Change Education Requirement (JTCCER) for incoming first-year students, starting fall 2024. This requirement, approved by the Academic Senate, is a clear example of the university’s shift from fostering critical thinking to promoting a singular ideological agenda.

The Facade of Empowerment

The JTCCER is presented under the doublespeak guise of “empowering students with knowledge and skills”, however, by mandating a specific viewpoint on a complex and multifaceted issue, UC San Diego is effectively narrowing the intellectual horizons of its students, guiding them towards a predetermined conclusion rather than encouraging open inquiry.

The Illusion of Choice

While the list of courses satisfying the JTCCER will be made publicly available, the real choice is illusory. The courses, undoubtedly, will be designed to align with the prevailing climate change orthodoxy, offering a one-sided view of a highly debatable field. This approach stifles academic freedom and critical thinking, turning education into a tool for ideological conformity.
Honoring Ideology over Inquiry

The JTCCER is named in honor of the late Jane Teranes, a teaching professor known for her contributions to climate change education. It symbolizes the university’s commitment to a specific ideological stance, rather than a dedication to unbiased academic inquiry.

The Future of Academic Freedom

The formation of a new Senate committee to oversee the JTCCER’s implementation is a concerning development. It indicates a long-term commitment to embedding this ideological stance in the university’s curriculum. The committee’s role in finalizing criteria for JTCCER courses further consolidates the control over what perspectives are deemed acceptable.

Conclusion: A Step Towards Ideological Uniformity

UC San Diego’s JTCCER is another in a long line of troubling steps towards ideological uniformity and intellectual conformity. The ongoing shift from education to indoctrination, where students are molded into ideologically aligned activists rather than being equipped with the critical thinking skills necessary to navigate complex issues, has become of hallmark of universities nationwide.

Little Lady on the Road

Riding west on 44 out of Rapid, I pulled to the shoulder, parked the Harley to talk to a little girl. She was alone, maybe three years old.

She wasn’t dressed for walking the highway in December weather. She said her name was Abby as I picked her up, opened my jacket and held her close to my body.

I dialed 911. An officer was there in three minutes. A woman in a red Lexus was there in five.

She yelled, “Get your hands off her!”

“Ma’am, have you been drinking?” the officer asked.

Abby began to cry when CPS took her from me.

I did too.

Climate Depot executive editor Marc Morano blasted President Joe Biden for bypassing American voters to enact his environmental agenda.

The Biden administration signed on to a pledge to start “transitioning away from fossil fuels” at the United Nations COP28 climate summit Dec. 13. “Do we need to abolish the gas-powered car? We’ve never voted on it in the United States,” Morano told former Rep. Sean Duffy of Wisconsin and “The Bottom Line” guest host Kelly O’Grady.

“We never had a vote. It’s all been decided with executive orders, mid-level bureaucrats, corporate-government collusion, executive agencies,” Morano continued. “Do we need to start limiting meat eating? That’s the other question. The answer’s no to both, but even if you believed it, you’re absolutely right, you would have democracy involved, people voting, you would have timetables. I’m not arguing we should do that, I’m arguing we need to challenge this entire premise.”

Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, which spends $370 billion to combat climate change and is loaded with green energy provisions, including a $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicles, into law in August 2022. Electric vehicle sales have faltered, despite the tax credit and other subsidies provided by the Biden administration.

Only 10% of Americans who responded to an October BlueAnalytics poll said they would purchase an electric vehicle, while 40% of respondents said they knew “nothing at all” about the tax credit.

Biden also cancelled oil leases in Alaska granted late in the Trump administration in September, according to CBS, while proposing new regulations to limit energy production from fossil fuels. Economic and energy experts have criticized Biden’s hostility to domestic fossil fuel production, which some say has caused higher energy prices.

Morano also noted the track record of “green” policies in Sri Lanka and the Netherlands.

“It’s climate policy, not climate change, that is going to drive migration, and the same was true with COVID, by the way,” Morano said. “People in droves leaving California and other states. What we’re finding is people in Sri Lanka followed climate policy to the collapse of their government, their presidential palace was overrun. The farmers in the Netherlands were subjected to climate policy, and they almost crushed all the small family-run farms.”

Morano also hit at former Vice President Al Gore for his rhetoric.

“They are using climate fear to literally restrict and collapse energy, agriculture, transportation, go right after our freedom of movement,” Morano said.

MOTORCYCLES IN MOVIES REPORT–

We are used to seeing protagonists riding motorcycles— well how about an alien symbiont being riding a motorcycle?

Marvel Studio’s “Venom” and “Venom 2” have the nemesis of Spiderman riding a Ducati which belongs to its human host. The alien basically needs the human body to survive and thrive just as any parasitic virus. With the rider having alien superpowers, the maneuvering of the motorcycle is so much better. LOL.

Venom’s host is played by Tom Hardy who is popular among youth motorcyclists and will also be in the cast of much anticipated movie “The Bikeriders” based on a 1967 book of the same name.

That’s what’s missing– simply call them all “bikeriders” instead of inventing adverbs and purple prose and attempting creativity. It’s literally all there is to it for most people–ride the bike.

For those still lost as to who is Tom Hardy– he is the man who broke Batman’s back in The Dark Knight Rises in the role of rival “Bane” and was also in movies such as Mad Max Fury Road and Inception.

THE BIKERNET YOU WON’T BELIEVE THIS FILES–

Ed. Note: A classic Candid Camera episode is where a car without a motor makes a downhill stop at a service station for a checkup. The attendants are stunned to find the car is engineless. Fiction and funnies turned into fact with Trevor Milton, whose hydrogen/fuel cell/electric truck company, Nikola Corp., pulled this stunt with a rolling truck in a promotional video. Kenneth Maize has the story in “Trevor Milton, E-truck Nikola Corp. Founder, Headed to Prison?“

“It was mostly smoke and mirrors. The company had acquired “gliders,” truck platforms without engines. In one notorious case highlighted by Hindenburg, Nikola in 2018 posted a YouTube video of a battery-powered Nikola cab and trailer … moving rapidly along a desert highway. Hindenburg said the truck wasn’t moving under its own power. Nikola had towed the engineless truck to the top of a hill, and it was rolling because of gravity.”

U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos in Manhattan Monday (Dec. 18) sentenced Trevor Milton, founder and former CEO of e-truck company Nikola Corp. (NKLA:NASDAQ) to four years in prison for defrauding investors. Prosecutors had sought a sentence of 11-years in the slammer. He will be out on bail pending an appeal.

Ramos also ordered Milton to pay a $1 million fine and forfeit a Utah property. Nikola is currently based in Phoenix, Ariz.

A federal jury in October 2022 found Milton guilty of one count of securities fraud and three counts of wire fraud…

Several analysts have suggested that the company is headed toward bankruptcy, possibly liquidation. The Motley Fool stock analysis web site commented, “There’s little sign that Nikola’s business will succeed over the long term, and those who buy the stock could still wind up suffering big losses even though it has already fallen so dramatically.”

During the trial, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said, “Trevor Milton lied to Nikola’s investors—over and over and over again. That’s fraud, plain and simple, and this office has no patience for it.” The Wall Street Journal reported, “Witnesses testified that he lied to ordinary investors about nearly every aspect of Nikola.”

INDUSTRY VETERAN BOB KAY— to Lead Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket Council (IMA)

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation in the United States (MRF) has formed a council to review the challenges that independent motorcycle dealers and custom bike builders face – providing a channel for their interests as motorcycle industry stakeholders to be addressed by MRF lobbyists in Washington, DC.

“We are pleased to have Bob Kay leading the Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket Council,” stated Kirk ‘Hardtail’ Willard, “Bob’s firsthand experience over five decades in the motorcycle industry will be invaluable in helping to direct the efforts of our lobbyists.”

The MRF went on to say that “the recent focus on the future of internal combustion engines is threatening the future of independent motorcycle dealers and custom bike builders to provide alternative service centers, as well as servicing older bikes and customization projects.”

Bob Kay said, “I am extremely pleased with the team we have been able to put together. The mission is to focus lobbyists on our right to repair and modify. The Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket Network will be a forum through which the efforts to campaign for those rights can be protected and developed.”

Chaired by Bob Kay, initial IMA Council membership includes Keith Ball from Bikernet, Chris Callen from Cyclesource Magazine, Scott Hakins from S&S, Steve Broyles from Stevenson Cycles, John Jessup from Dream Rides, Jason Hallman from Cycle Stop USA and John O’Brien of Hardcore cycles.

Independent motorcycle dealers and custom bike builders wishing to join the Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket Network can contact Bob Kay at IMA19032023@gmail.com or visit the website at www.mrf.org.

But first, we need the owner, Joe Teresi’s permission. Hang on.

Steve Klein’s 1914 made it to the centerspread of the AMA 100 year magazine. Steve, the collector and broker of rare antique motorcycles is currently under indictment in Texas for trying to protect his home from illegals breaking into his tool shed. Wish him well.

No one was hurt, but they arrested the homeowner not the guys trying to break-in. Hang on for more reports.

Steve sent me the story behind the bike too late for the news, but we will cover the history next week right here. Great story and involves cops again…

Decided to custom louver the deck behind the shop. What do you think? Finally, we received our first serious snow from the Climate Change Gods.

I want everyone to have a terrific News Years Celebration. Then we need to hunker down and take care of business. This year will be major…

Hey—

Party like there indeed is a tomorrow. Don’t give in to those doomsday prophecies. The planet is not cooking–it’s your media-conditioned brain that’s on gas. So, kick start your future journey instead of relenting on the kickstand.

Get up, saddle up and get noticed.

Wheels are two, but the community needs to be one. Solidarity does not mean compromise. Get involved, ask questions, gain insight, share your experiences, evolve a collective consciousness and build a knowledge base that their bots can’t censor because it is out on the streets and inside corporate boardrooms.

It is not a fight, it is an answer to those who doubt your lifestyle and culture. You don’t need to be hostile. Show them the physical, mental and even spiritual benefits of motorcycles, motorcycle communities, exploration, tourism, competition and engineering that is not limited to mega-factories but available to high-school students too.

I am sure you know better and more, so I need not attempt to list ways, means and methods to engage your neighbors, colleagues, fellow citizens and legislators. If there is one sure way to test your beliefs, it is to head out and see if anyone else is riding against the same headwinds.
