Fliers for Freedom
By Wayfarer |
Hey,
I was inspired by Becky Zarling, an MRF Assistant rep and a hardworking member of ABATE of Wisconsin. She pronounced in her newsletter that members of ABATE would attend every motorcycle event in Wisconsin, meet bikers and hand out fliers regarding legislation, MRF efforts and ABATE of Wisconsin activities. I was moved and motivated.
I asked Becky if I could create an important MRF flier about the biggest threat to our lifestyle. Could she add it to her leaflets and make it available to riders all over her state? She said yes, but there were some guidelines she must follow. First the flier had to be motorcycle centric and secondly, and of course, the wording must be approved by the MRF Board.
There you have it. So, I’m here to present my original version and the version edited by the CO2 Coalition. I hope one or the other is approved and we can move forward. Chris Callen, the boss of Cycle Source Magazine volunteered to handle the art layout. We will make these available to anyone who wants them free of charge. Bikernet.com is also sponsoring this
effort.

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST THREAT TO MOTORCYCLING AND OUR LIFESTYLE?
CLIMATE DOOMSDAY
Harley CEO Jochen Zeitz tells us that after 120 years of being famous for its big gas-powered models, electrification is the logical next step.
–Jalopnik
SO, WHAT’S THE REAL DEAL, THE TRUE SCIENCE?
CARBON DIOXIDE CO2 IS NOT A POLLUTANT
More carbon dioxide will help everyone including future generations. CO2 is the essential food for land-based plants. The Earth’s biosphere has experienced a relative CO2 famine for millions of years, but the recent increase in CO2 levels with the use of Fossil Fuels has had a measurable, positive effect on plant life.
FUTURE CO2 INCREASES WILL BOOST FARM PRODUCTIVITY, IMPROVE DROUGHT RESISTANCE, BOLSTER FOOD SECURITY AND HELP CREATE A GREENER, LUSHER PLANET.

YOUR UPSWEPT PIPES HELP CHALLENGING NET ZERO WITH SCIENCE
Net Zero Plans are dangerous and unsupported by science. Six hundred million years of geological evidence shows that CO2 levels are near a recordlow and that atmospheric increases of the gas follow warming periods rather than precede them. This is enough to debunk the notion that CO2 is a dominant driver of global temperatures.

HERE’S THE EDITED TEXT FOR OUR MRF FREEDOM FLIER FROM THE CO2 COALITION—
Climate Alarmism’s Threat to a Cycling Lifestyle
Harley-Davidson CEO Jochen Zeitz tells us in the Jalopnik newsletter that after 120 years of producing big gas-powered cycles, electrification is the logical next step in a so-called age of decarbonization.
REALLY? What’s the real deal? The true science?
FACT: Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a necessity for all life, not a pollutant that threatens our existence.
For millions of years, Earth has been in a relative CO2 famine. However, since the Industrial
Revolution, increasing atmospheric CO2 has had a measurable, positive effect on plant life.
This reversal of CO2’s downward trend may very well prevent the eventual demise of all life from CO2 starvation, according to scientists at the CO2 Coalition.
YOUR UPSWEPT PIPES FERTILIZE THE AIR.
CO2 will continue to boost farm productivity, help feed a growing population and contribute to an overall greening of Earth that began nearly a century ago.
Challenging Net Zero With Science
Net Zero plans to eliminate emissions of CO2 are dangerous and unsupported by science. According to 600 million years of geological evidence, CO2 levels are near a record low and atmospheric increases of the gas follow warming periods rather than precede them. This is enough to debunk the notion that CO2 is a dominant driver of global temperatures.
TRUTH: Net Zero means zero freedoms.
FIGHTING BACK: The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) stands for the freedom to choose internal combustion engines far into the future.
YOU should be able to decide what you ride and when you ride. We believe in liberty and the ability to ride free forever.
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation and the Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket are aligned in maximizing the freedom of riders and independent dealers and custom bike builders.
Having fought for more than 40 years to protect the cycling lifestyle, MRF has excellent lobbying efforts in D.C and is connected to state organizations all over the country.
JOIN MRF and IMA.
CO2 COALITION, with a membership of 150 scientists and researchers, is the leading organization standing for the truth about CO2’s benefits and for
honest science.
JOIN the CO2 Coalition.
FINAL THOUGHT: Did you know that every wind turbine contains 80 gallons of oil?
We will never give in or give up on Freedom, the Truth or our Motorcycles.

THE SUPER EXCITING BIKERNET NEWS for January 18, 2024
By Bandit |
Hey,
I’ll let the news speak for itself. It’s exciting from a number of perspectives. Fuck it, let’s get started…
The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum.
OHIO GOVERNOR– Signs SEMA-Supported Vehicle Freedom Bill Into Law
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed a SEMA-supported bill (HB 201) into law that safeguards Ohioans’ right to choose the vehicles that best suit their needs, regardless of fuel type. The new law prohibits any state or local government entity from restricting the use or sale of motor vehicles based on their power source, including internal combustion engines (ICEs).
“This is a monumental win for Ohioans and the freedom to choose,” said Christian Robinson, SEMA’s director of state government affairs and grassroots. “Governor DeWine’s decision to sign HB 201 into law sends a powerful message that Ohio values individual liberty and empowers its citizens to make informed choices about their transportation needs.”
I saw the Harley-Davidson X440 at the neighbouring Hero Authorised Dealership where I had purchased my Hero XPulse 200.
The boss said that as an official marketing partner, even Hero dealerships are allowed to take booking and give delivery of these bikes.
I have to say, in person the X440 looks magnificent. It’s like you look at a photo and think the gal is strange and weird and then you meet her and you can’t wait to hop her to hell.
Well, this top variant of the X440 was meant for delivery and they don’t have one for test rides yet.
The only “weird” was maybe the design and shape of the silencer, but who am I to complain after riding with a Classic 350 silencer to comply with police emission demands on my 2004 Enfield Bullet.
X440 looks rock solid, tough and I am sure it will have a good street presence. I will take a trip to the H-D dealership soon and see if I can get a test drive.
Meanwhile, I test drove a Suzuki Jimny, the globally acclaimed 4 wheel drive vehicle. Don’t be proud, it was an automatic gear shift. It costs a little more than five X440 top variant motorcycles. And consumes petrol like a monster. Well, not as bad as a friend’s Jeep of course—- this was a Suzuki after all.
You will like this video comparison between Bajaj Triumph and Hero Harley-Davidson. Since everyone has an Enfield here nowadays, an X440 is definitely a cool pick. Let’s see if they release a second model with this engine —not the Hero Maverick, something with H-D badge.

From the Risk Monger
Just imagine if, in the coming months, the following studies would be published in peer-reviewed journals:
That battery technologies used in electric vehicles (EVs) have a much higher likelihood to spontaneously combust (and it is highly recommended that EVs be banned from underground or covered parking lots and container ships).
EV lithium batteries emit more elevated electro-magnetic fields (EMFs) that, at exposure levels exceeding 15 minutes, can lead to miscarriages or damage to human DNA which could trigger responses increasing the risk of certain cancers.
Studies in tire dust from automobile use show how they are the main cause of microplastics released into the sea (78% of all microplastics). As EVs are heavier, they emit much more tire dust.
A comparative Life Cycle Assessment showed, from cradle to cradle, that EVs are less sustainable and emit more CO2 than diesel cars.
An impact assessment revealed that present EV batteries cannot be sustainably recycled without a waste management energy and water demand far higher than that needed for recycling entire diesel vehicles.
Would regulators in developed countries, in reading these studies, be able to stop the political juggernaut pushing to replace fossil-fuel based internal combustion engines (ICEs) with EVs? Would regulators be able to introduce limits on where EVs could be parked or publish advice on which vulnerable people should avoid using them? Would they even be able to slow the conversion to an all-EV mobility market within the next decade?
Come on now, let’s be serious. Regulators are helpless in the face the righteous perception of electric vehicles. As it is a moral imperative to replace fossil fuels and the internal combustion power train technologies, these studies would be ignored. Facts have little power when regulators see themselves acting along the path of exuberant righteousness.

My friend’s father owns a warehouse In Boyle Heights that’s in the middle of being re-leased and currently vacant. He told me I had a month to pull something off before… We reached out to Carrie from Choppers Mag and started the uphill battle of planning everything.
Carrie backed me 100 percent of the way and we pooled our resources to make the H3LLRAISER BIKE SHOW as cool and fun as possible within our budget (pretty much 5k) and limited time–three weeks.
We invited 20 builders, 20 artist, 20 photographers, 4 bands and 17 venders. It was all love and friends who helped pull it together and everyone had a good time. No drama. No bullshit.
We were expecting 300 people, maybe 500 max. I think about 1000 came and went through out the galvanized tin doors. The Chopper Gods were on our side that day and everyone came to pay homage to the Great Keith “Bandit” Ball and Five Ball Racing leathers.
From the overall consensus, we put on the coolest show in Los Angeles this year and people are already asking about the next one to come. The melting pot of Southern California sub culture was all in one spot and the energy was undeniable. If you didn’t know about the Ball brigade before Sunday, you sure do now.

STURGIS MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM ANNOUNCEMENTS—This is going to be a massive year for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum.
There’s a new Executive Director on board and the Board of directors has been expanded with more motorcycle industry veterans and leaders have stepped up.
The museum is looking to iconic expansion. Hell, I leaned on the bank manager next door to sell. The museum will become the center-piece for and about motorcycling in the city of Sturgis. It will become the beacon of two-wheels for bikers all over the world.
And the collections housed within the museum will be second to none. I’m in discussions with Joe Teresi about bringing the Easyriders Streamliner to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum, which could become the first skyscraper in the Black Hills.
Hang On: Sturgis Motorcycle Museum proudly announced Heidi Haro as its new Executive Director. With a background in strategic leadership, Heidi brings expertise in accelerating growth, structuring operations, forging partnerships, and building high-performance teams. She’s been the boss of over 500 employees. She knows how to make progress.
Kirk Willard, the 20-year president of the Motorcycle Rides Foundation is now a board member with serious legislative and leadership capabilities and a vast network of riders and freedom fighters all over the world.
Ari Levenbaum, the co-owner and Chief Executive Office of Law Tigers attorney agency stepped up.
Steve Piehl, the boss of Authentic CX, LLC
Communications, and longtime Harley executive, will come onboard most likely next month. He’s going to help with marketing and communications, plus he’s a great guy and longtime enthusiast.
And finally, I was allowed on the board to oversee the janitorial duties and chrome the trash cans. Weekly I need to report on the inventory of toilet paper. They’re afraid I’m taking the shit home.
This year will be an amazing turning point in the Sturgis Museum’s history. Hang on for weekly reports.

HERO MotoCorp announces— ‘Mavrick’ as its upcoming streetfighter, positioned against Harley-Davidson X440
The forthcoming Hero Mavrick will share identical foundational elements, such as the trellis frame and the 440 cc oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine. However, it will undergo several modifications to distinguish itself more clearly from its American counterpart.
While Harley-Davidson X440 is categorized as a roadster, the forthcoming Mavrick will be positioned as a streetfighter.

The RPM act is essential, yet the # of people it will effect is too small. Many fans and even some people who work in the business don’t even know details about it. My friend believes what SEMA should be behind and working towards preserving all engines with pistons.

With all this in store, Koelnmesse – INTERMOT’s organizer – and the event’s conceptual sponsor, the German Motorcycle Industry Association (IVM e.V.), aim to offer trade visitors and end consumers all the information they need as well as a completely new way to enjoy the run-up to Christmas and the shopping that goes with it. Of course, there will also be an event programgeared to the season.
Even before registration officially opens, the four-day event’s new concept has already won over major market players, such as BMW Motorrad Germany, Kawasaki Motors Europe N.V. and Yamaha Motor Europe N.V., who have already announced that they’ll be participating.

As we rev up for the exciting year ahead, we’d like to get you up to speed on some of the latest developments here at Damon. More than ever before, this journey is fueled by your support, and we’re grateful for your passion and patience as we gear up for a big growth year ahead of us.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO, JAY GIRAUD:
Looking back on 2023, it was no doubt a difficult year for tech companies. Despite numerous challenges exacerbated by capital constraints for so many innovative companies, we are tremendously thankful to be one of the lucky ones that persevered.
But we don’t look back when we ride motorbikes, do we? We look forward – there is no need to look back in life, or on the road. The future waits for us out on the road ahead, so we forge toward it.
As you may already know, we recently announced plans to reverse-merge into a NASDAQ-listed company, known as an RTO, or Reverse-Take Over. Should the merger be successful, we would subsequently be trading on the NASDAQ under the ticker DMN, with Damon Motors Inc. resulting as the publicly traded company.
As you can imagine, this is a tremendously exciting time for us. We are excited about what 2024 has in store; particularly, improving our capitalization to meet the needs of our path to start production in the coming months. And having your continued support proves what we’ve known since the start of this journey: the motorcycle world is ready for the evolution of the species.
HYPERSPORT VS. 1000CC SUPERBIKE
We are thrilled to announce a strategic partnership with E-One Moli Energy Corp. (Molicel), bringing their high-capacity, high-power battery cell technology to Damon motorcycles. This partnership with Molicel will help Damon deliver more range, higher power and shorter charge times than our competition. In fact, during a recent test event at Thunderhill Raceway in California, Damon’s new Molicel-equipped Hypersport motorcycle went head-to-head against a state-of-the-art 2023 model 1000cc superbike.
The results?
– The Damon HyperSport successfully accelerated at a comparable rate to the 1000cc superbike.
– Its power delivery was considerably smoother than that of the 1000cc superbike.
– Enhanced handling and performance resulted in later braking into the corners, faster turn ins and earlier acceleration in corner exits.
– The HyperSport delivered remarkably high continuous power output, comparable to the 1000cc superbike.
This was all achieved without traction control, ABS, launch control or wheelie control enabled on the HyperSport yet – even though the 1000cc superbike had those rider aids turned on.
Molicel’s innovative and superior battery technology will further position Damon at the leading edge of EV tech.

Yesterday I was outside doing some yard work and noticed a strange looking Hispanic man meandering up the little Arkansas suburban road I live on. He was walking slow, staring too long at each house, eyeballing vehicles like they were some of his business.
He white eyed me on my porch and quickened his step when he saw my little red car that is emblazoned with Trump support and gave me the stink eye as he slowly passed by my home… I wondered if he was an illegal. A few years ago, this woulda been female hysteria… but these days, America is saturated with them, far, far north of the Southern Border. It was not some outlandish tinfoil hat idea… its America’s new reality.
The bussing from Texas is understandable. The border states simply cannot absorb the massive influx of humans.. but unfortunately, it gives a shit ton of criminals a free pass to infiltrate our country, all the way up to New York City… and every single body that crosses that border without proper channels is most assuredly an intruding criminal.
In a time when we can barely feed ourselves under the inflation of a Democrat administration, we are now expected to deplete our meager resources for the old, poor and sick American citizens, to babysit thousands upon thousands of young strong men, who obviously have no qualms about breaking the law by breaking and entering a whole damned country.
I cannot fathom the mindset of these people. What incentivizes someone to just walk off into a foreign country with nothing but an Adidas sweatshirt and a little backpack. They just stand around on street corners waiting for someone to feed them and house them and take care of them? What kind of milk and honey promises are they hearing from the Biden administration, to make them want to choose indigence?
Regardless of what kind of pipedream they have been fed, it takes a certain kind of human to choose to step off into a free fall of welfare, and it’s not the kind of people we need to be flooding our country. We are not Disneyland. We are not the Emerald City where you click your heels for a miracle. There are no fairy tale Utopian scenarios to be had here. You want to yearn, you got to earn.
The Statue of Liberty asks for poor huddled masses yearning to breathe free.. not rude lazy asses, yearning to eat for free. There should be an elemental expectancy of earning your keep in every human being. This is actually a large factor in the capitalistic equation of the American dream… A dream that is currently being trampled into a welfare nightmare by thousands upon thousands of expensive new tennis shoes, that bear evidence and witness to crime. dirty with the freshly trampled mud of the Rio Grande. America is now drowning in the wretched refuse from that muddy shore. We are not a Motel 6… It’s past time to blow out the lamp, and lock the golden door.

100-WORD FICTION ENTRY–She’s Gone.
I left Hill City on highway 385 north to Deadwood. I had to see it for myself. The temperature was in the low 30s, a little cold for a ride, but it wasn’t respectful to go in a car.
Dark smoke belched from the black mass of rubble, as a small breeze drifted the haze into the pines. A police officer directed traffic while firetrucks and volunteer firemen hosed the area.
Thirty straight rally years did I enjoy many a beer, burgers and conversations at this place. Now she’s gone.
The Sugar Shack can make it back, we pray…

THE FIGHT FOR DOMINANCE IN THE INDIAN MARKET-–
Harley-Davidson, Triumph, Honda, Kawasaki, all are trying to go small to beat Royal Enfield. Meanwhile the Enfield company which had two top selling models with just 350cc engines–the Classic 350 and Bullet 350– they are upsizing to now have four 650cc models.
And the unique thing– their sales are so high, their 6 day work week factory is unable to keep up. Now with the fourth 650cc model, the Shotgun coming out soon–the employees probably can’t get a weekend getaway on their runaway success motorcycles.
Meanwhile, Harley-Davidson pushing ADV again even as it reminisces good ‘ol days with an Icon.

Harley-Davidson Hydra-Glide Revival arriving as a 2024 Icon Model
The first Harley with a hydraulic fork debuted 75 years ago
Harley-Davidson Icon model will be a Hydra-Glide Revival. Icon range pays tribute to different models from Harley-Davidson’s past. Hydra-Glide, first introduced in 1949, will be the oldest model to receive this honor with a modern version.
Firing all barrels with Royal Enfield Shotgun 650
Mark Wells, RE’s Global Head of Product Strategy & Industrial Design says it was envisioned as a blank canvas for custom bike makers. At fairly low 9.5:1 compression ratio it denotes a low state of tune, most likely to ensure it runs well even on poor-quality fuel in delivering a claimed 51.6 mpg.
Even with production at the company’s Oragadam factory outside Chennai running flat out for six days a week, there are waiting lists everywhere for the 650cc models such as Super Meteor, Continental GT and Interceptor — as production struggles to keep up with demand. Yet Royal Enfield’s parent company Eicher Motors (albeit RE accounts for 92% of its overall turnover) just reported a huge 54.70% increase in net profit last November for the second quarter of its business year, with turnover up 17% on the back of a 13% increase in Royal Enfield sales.
The 650cc models have catapulted the Indian manufacturer into a leading role in the global middleweight motorcycle market.
This desirable problem of meeting motorcycle sales demand is expected to worsen with launch of 2024’s new model Shotgun 650.
Rigorous testing regime conducted simultaneously in India, Europe, the USA and the UK are unique to Royal Enfield.
“We looked at what people were doing with our bikes post-purchase, and saw they were increasingly eager to customize and personalize them,” he says. “So we decided to create the Shotgun as the starting point for them to do that, and we’ve taken inspiration from the Custom world to create a platform that people can take forward and develop on their own.” Mark Wells, RE’s Global Head of Product Strategy & Industrial Design.
The 650cc engines are firing all barrels, paving a blaze for glory. CEO Siddhartha Lal says he expected at the outset the 650 models would have greatest appeal to export customers. Instead, Lal and his colleagues have been pleasantly surprised, with demand in the company’s Indian home market for its twin-cylinder models far exceeding their expectations.

MARIJUANA IS FINALLY FREE FROM FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE—
Marijuana meets criteria for reclassification as lower-risk drug, FDA scientific review finds.
Marijuana is currently classified as Schedule I, reserved for the most dangerous controlled substances, including heroin and LSD. In 2022, President Joe Biden asked U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra and the attorney general to begin the administrative process of reviewing how marijuana is scheduled under federal law. HHS Assistant Secretary for Health Adm. Rachel Levine wrote a letter to the Drug Enforcement Administration in August in which she supported the reclassification to Schedule III, a list that includes “drugs with a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence” such as ketamine, testosterone and Tylenol with codeine.
The FDA documents, which are posted online, “reflect HHS’ evaluation of the scientific and medical evidence and its scheduling recommendation” to the Department of Justice, HHS said Friday.

OFFICIAL TEXAS WEATHER REPORT— “Forged in Foil” Heavy Duty folded 4 times, with a thick washer the diameter of the pipe and then a thin sheet of brass doubled and precision formed to the washer, to block the hole in the washer.
Temporary or long term, depending on multiple factors to be determined upon future analysis of the materials resilience and durability. Don’t stand in front of it, in case it launches the thick washer upon start up?
**Fear not!** I added a second NHRA possibly approved “safety” hose clamp to grip the large, thick washer and pipe, hopefully?
Yes, that’s the factory headpipe where the crossover pipe fits, I had an issue with the front pipe not going all the way into the head.
Last night, I got it figured out but don’t want to put it all back together after my other recent not measuring twice before I cut the fishtails down. So, for a while it’s going to be a 2-1 with a fishtail that ends about the front of the saddlebag. The neighbors should love it!
Currently 33 degrees, waiting till after 9 when it’s supposed to be 39 to head up to MC Creations. Took Monday off for no other reason than it gave me 3-day weekend. It’s all done on a computer. In nine years, I’ve never had a full work-week off and we’re supposed to get hit with the Arctic front Monday
I think it comes from 40 years of being a heavy truck & bus mechanic, more with Greyhound. As you handed off the running bus and had to hope the driver would remember stop and call the shop if you knew you needed a wrecker, pre cell phone. Myself and my friend Ken “Buff” Buffalo(named after the tool brand),had a competition to see if we could limp them back in. Once he got a bus running, but ran over his road box and couldn’t get his tools out of it. He had to bring it back to the shop or he’d have left it!
Only got 25 miles in at 34 degrees this morning, fingertips were feeling it again. But unlike the 31 degree day a few weeks ago, when I took the car seat on the Shovelhead, I used my gator-skin liners today. This poor circulation thing started since the beginning of ‘22 when I rode in felt-like 17 degrees. No problem, except the wind on the return trip back!
Even though we don’t have much winter I like to ride, so it’s time for the plug-in gloves. Plus, the fairing will help as well, if I ever get it mounted? The main mount for the fairing got to north Houston on Thursday, but it will be Thursday before it’s delivered? USPS deserves to go out of business, why does it take a week?
This shot came from the day I took my motorcycle license test. It was pouring down rain. I was the first of three in line. Houston wasn’t as crowded then. Took it on my Suzuki T500 that only had a front brake. So, I’ve been riding in the weather since the start! You faced the side to indicate under 18

WILD New Bikernet Reader Comment!–Review: Chopper Hobo by Shovelhead Dave
https://www.bikernet.com/pages/Chopper_Hobo_by_Shovelhead_Dave.aspx
I read this book gawd knows how many times, as its editor and getting it to print. It’s just raw nuts and bolts reading with no frills. It was a fun ride getting all of Dave’s stories together to turn it into some resemblance of a book. It’s original in its own right as we left it as it was with the deliberately misspelled words as it gave it some sense of being there and a feel for the character recounting his personal experiences, too many Bwahahahas?
As for J.J.’s review, no one could have put it better than he did, it must be bad if he enjoyed it Bwahahaha.
As for my nonexistence of editor skills in producing the book….someone had to do it. Dave ain’t no spring chicken no more. Time is of the essence before he croaks one day and all is lost forever, but now in years to come people can enjoy the book the way it was written and feel as if they are there with the bwahahas

MOVIE REVIEW OF THE WEEK—
Hey,
Have you seen the Mel Gibson starrer movie named “Bandit” (2022) ? It’s on Amazon Prime and based on a true story.
A man robs banks in US and has to flee into Canada. Then he realizes that robbing banks in Canada is like taking candy from a baby. He goes on a bank robbing spree–dozens of banks in matter of days. Incredible. Mel Gibson plays the role of a Canadian mobster who agrees to financially support this American fugitive bank robber in an endeavor to rob banks instead of his minions robbing homes for jewelry.
It’s a pretty awesome movie— back in the 80s these things were possible with banks and police. Plus the movie’s got a great name “BANDIT”.
Do watch the trailer, it will catch your fancy.

TRIAL OF THE CENTURY STARTING THIS WEEK–The free speech trial of the century is here and we will be bringing you the details – every day.
Our first big project of 2024 will expose the liars behind the climate hoax and those who want to take away your freedom of speech.
We’re bringing you a verbatim podcast of the trial that will reveal the lengths environmental alarmists will go to silence their opponents. But we won’t let them do it in secret. Using transcripts, we are going to re-enact the most dramatic parts of the case, every day, and have them in your inbox that night.
The podcast Climate Change: On Trial will reveal how “scientist” Michael Mann is trying to sue and close down our friend, the writer and broadcaster Mark Steyn, just for challenging his shoddy science. The trial is one of the most significant in the twenty-first century. It reveals the truth about the Climate Change cult and asks: “Is there really Free Speech in America?” You can see the trailer here!
Michael Mann is famous for his “hockey stick” graph which predicts catastrophic global warming and has become an iconic symbol for the climate change movement – especially those who want to blame capitalism and America for all that’s wrong.
Mark Steyn denounced Mann’s graph in an opinion piece for National Review, calling it scientific fraud, and accused Penn State University of aiding in the cover-up of his shoddy science. Mann has since pursued him through the courts… for twelve years. The process is its own punishment, and the DC court refuses to throw out this obviously spurious case.
Our verbatim podcast will reveal the truth behind the climate change hoax. The people behind it know they’re pushing fraudulent science to stoke climate alarmism, and one upside of it heading to court is that they’ll be on record defending the indefensible. They’ll be revealed as liars, and we’ll document every word.
But it’s also going to be fun. Anyone who has read Mark Steyn’s writing knows he’s very, very smart and very entertaining. He’s representing himself, and we’ll bring you his wit in all its glory. He also has never lost a court case.
This podcast is coming to you daily, so stay tuned for episodes and updates! For now, watch the trailer here and subscribe to the podcast on Apple Podcasts here.
We won’t let them get away with this sham.
Thank you,
Ann & Phelim
APPEALS COURT AGREES THAT TEXAS READER Law Violates First Amendment-–
In a unanimous verdict, a three-judge panel on the Federal Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit upheld District Court Judge Alan D. Albright’s clear and comprehensive ruling that Texas’s READER Act, a book banning law, is unconstitutional. The ruling and preliminary injunction blocking implementation of the law, which had been stayed pending the appeal, can now go forward, as the Appeals Court denied the state’s motion for stay pending further appeal.
The case is a clear loser for Texas, and the Appeals Court barely breaks a sweat in rejecting all of the state’s fanciful arguments otherwise: “The question presented is narrow: Are Plaintiffs likely to succeed on their claims that READER violates their First Amendment rights? Controlling precedent suggests the answer is yes.”
The law compels unwilling booksellers and publishers to engage in a comprehensive of “rating” of their own books in ways they would ordinarily choose not to do at all. The “ratings are the vendor’s speech,” the court recognizes, and “if plaintiffs do not comply…they are prohibited from selling to school districts.”
The plaintiffs said in a joint statement: “We are grateful for the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ decisive action in striking down this unconstitutional law. With this historic decision the court has moved decisively to ensure the constitutionally protected speech of authors, booksellers, publishers, and readers, and prevent the state government from unlawfully compelling speech on the part of private citizens.
The court’s decision also shields Texas businesses from the imposition of impossibly onerous conditions, protects the basic constitutional rights of the plaintiffs, and lets Texas parents make decisions for their own children without government interference or control. This is a good day for bookstores, readers, and free expression.”

California’s Attack on the Internal Combustion Engine
By Wayfarer |
This week, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) held a hearing on proposed emission standards from the State of California. The plan submitted by California would end the sale of new cars and light-duty vehicles with internal combustion engines by 2035.
In response to the California CARB plan, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) submitted comments to the EPA. We know this attack on internal combustion engines will eventually include motorcycles and we must respond. The MRF is fighting to preserve the bikes we love, as well as the local shops and dealers that support the internal combustion engine.
It is time to fight back!

Firing all barrels with Royal Enfield Shotgun 650
By Wayfarer |
This desirable problem of meeting motorcycle sales demand is expected to worsen with launch of 2024 Shotgun 650.
In U.K., base model Sheetmetal Grey color will cost £6,699 including 20% tax, while the Plasma Blue and Green Drill variants are priced at £100 more, the Premium model in Stencil White costs £6,899. In comparison, 2024 units of the Super Meteor 650 start at £6,799, and in America, it starts at US$6,999. If Royal Enfield keeps such narrow margins with U.S. pricing, you can expect something just above $7k.
At fairly low 9.5:1 compression ratio it denotes a low state of tune, most likely to ensure it runs well even on poor-quality fuel in delivering a claimed 51.6 mpg.
Rigorous testing regime conducted simultaneously in India, Europe, the USA and the UK are unique to Royal Enfield.
You will have a motorcycle that has been there and done that in the real world and not just under “test conditions”
Media test riders have praised the tremendous improvement in handling and performance over Super Meteor 650. Shotgun is a incredibly good motorcycle, providing an unexpectedly high level of performance along with an ability to be individualized as your inclination and bank balance allow.
It is a Made in India take on the breed of chameleon sportbikes conceived by Japanese manufacturers in the late ‘80s and 1990s, all of which were sold at very affordable prices, it was then up to the customer to improve on as he or she could afford to do so.
“We looked at what people were doing with our bikes post-purchase, and saw they were increasingly eager to customize and personalize them,” he says. “So we decided to create the Shotgun as the starting point for them to do that, and we’ve taken inspiration from the Custom world to create a platform that people can take forward and develop on their own.” Mark Wells, RE’s Global Head of Product Strategy & Industrial Design says it was envisioned as a blank canvas for custom bike makers.
Dakar-winning YZE850, which was a classic predecessor of the RE Shotgun, was the first bike to have a 270° crank in a parallel-twin motor.

Old Flames by the Wicked Bitch
Today, I decided to burn all the pine straw accumulating in my front yard. The air just this side of too cold to be outside, I relished the brilliant Arkansas sun. I knew the fire and the labor would soon warm me, make me hurt and make me smile.
The concrete of my barn floor was damp and cold beneath my bare feet as I pulled my yard broom from behind dusty motorcycle fenders hanging on the wall. I navigated my wheelbarrow through my menagerie of Harleys towards the front yard. Hero MotoCorp announces streetfighter juxtaposed to Harley-Davidson X440
By Wayfarer |
Hero ‘Maverick’ is the upcoming streetfighter, positioned against Harley-Davidson X440. It will also go up against the popular Yamaha MT lineup.
Hero and Harley-Davidson are working together but who will win in their respective sales volumes? Hero MotoCorp is the exclusive distributor and service provider for Harley-Davidson in India. Together they built and launched the X440 last year to good pre-booking numbers.
The forthcoming Hero Mavrick will share identical foundational elements, such as the trellis frame and the 440 cc oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine. However, it will undergo several modifications to distinguish itself more distinctly from its American counterpart.
While Harley-Davidson X440 is categorized as a roadster, the forthcoming Mavrick will be positioned as a streetfighter.
It all starts with a cool name. That’s how marketing and branding works. I bet Hero MotoCorp will sell a lot more of these Maverick bikes than H-D’s X440 bikes—- no doubt inspired from a ‘Top Tom’ movie of the same name.
If Hero MotoCorp don’t show an advertisement featuring airplane pilots, aspiring owners will probably be disappointed. These will also compete well against existing Yamaha lineup including Yamaha MT-15. Bajaj Pulsar is still a well-known common model and Hero now has its Karizma ZMR as well as Maverick to rival Bajaj.

The Progress Report Bikernet Weekly News for January 11, 2024
By Wayfarer |
Hey,
I love progress. I don’t care what the hell it is, as long as we’re making progress. It snowed last night and at the crack of dawn I was forced into 7 degrees to clear the driveway for the redhead. She rolled south to work in the dreaded Chocolate Mines in Deadwood.
I have a couple of techs hanging-fire. I’ll get to them or die trying.
In the meantime, ride fast and free forever, goddammit.

Hey,

I’m working with the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, the IMA and the CO2 Coalition on a flier to be supplied to motorcycle rights groups all over the country regarding the attack on everything we do. With plenty of work, approval and support it’s coming together. Chris from Source Media is laying out the text and Becky from ABATE of Wisconsin is going to print them.
I’m working with Eric from the MRF to determine and supply me with addresses to distribute them to over 20 state organizations. We will make them available to everyone, including you if you want some.
We better hit the news:

Verge Motorcycles upgrades flagship model with both hardware and software to make motorcycle safer than before. All Verge TS Ultra motorcycles now feature cameras and radars that use artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Electric superbike manufacturer Verge Motorcycles has announced that it has updated the hardware and software of its flagship TS Ultra model. The motorcycle now has six cameras and high-resolution front and rear radars. The upgraded Verge TS Ultra replaces the previous version, and customers who have already placed an order will automatically receive their bike with the new features.
In November, the company unveiled its Starmatter software and intelligence platform with four different elements: automatic over-the-air updates (OTA), sensor technology, artificial intelligence and a Human-Machine-Interface (HMI). This package has now been completed with the advanced machine vision announced today, Starmatter Vision. With new functionalities, Verge is the first motorcycle manufacturer in the world to bring these advanced safety features to motorcycling. Besides the standard features, such as traction control and ABS brakes, Verge’s bikes have a low center of gravity, which enhances the control of the bike making the riding experience safer.
“Verge is making riding even smarter and safer, for example by improving the rider’s ability to observe the environment and the functions of the bike with the help of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The TS Ultra’s new cameras combined with the software update announced today make it the world’s first motorcycle equipped with the sense of sight, advising the rider and acting as a ‘whisperer’ while riding,” describes Verge CTO Marko Lehtimäki.
The Verge TS Ultra now also features updated displays. The display on top of the tank is larger than before, which makes it easier to use. The new Starmatter Dash display and user interface that was unveiled today revolutionizes the way the rider interacts with the bike. The new dash makes managing essential functions easier and more intuitive, it informs and warns of potential hazards, and it displays the image from the rear-view camera when the rider uses the turn signal, for example.
“Verge is developing the world’s most advanced electric superbikes that focus on the riding experience. We do not want to compromise on that. Starmatter Dash provides a visual and intuitive interface, which gives the rider a clear real-time view of the bike’s features and status at a glance,” says Mark Laukkanen, VP of User Experience at Verge Motorcycles.
JUST IN FROM THE PALACE OF ROYAL ENFIELD–
Enfield might launch a fifth motorcycle with the 650cc engine. It is rumored the top-selling model of Enfield, the Classic 350 will get the 650cc twin-pipe parallel twin engine. The others sharing the engine are the Continental GT, Interceptor, Super Meteor 650 and the soon to be launched Shotgun 650. Alleged road test mules have been spotted, photographed and posted on the net.
Enfield has clocked a remarkable 11% growth in one of the world’s most intensely competitive market, the world’s largest for two-wheelers–India. This is thanks to its bread and butter models: Classic 350 and Bullet 350 plus the new 650cc model namely the Super Meteor 650 and their fastest growing model Hunter 350 which has been named best entry level motorcycle runner up in lists such as those by Motorcycle.com
All eyes are on Honda CB350 which is the best retro styled motorcycle to match up against Enfield and offers a better “deal” in terms of specs and features. Yet, people who buy an Enfield keep blindly buying an Enfield. It’s not at all about price-benefit ratio for these fanboys(-men). Honda CB350 motorcycles will soon be delivered to their first owners. People have reported good showroom experience –whereas Enfield showrooms are a victim of their own success–too many customers inside most of the time.
Meanwhile, Kawasaki has thrown its hat in the ring against the ring-leader Enfield. Kawasaki Eliminator was launched on 3rd Jan 2024 and is priced to rival the best cruising Enfield model, the Super Meteor 650. Eliminator has a 450cc engine and lot of goodies.
Yet, Kawasaki Eliminator suffers all the same problems and limitations as that of Honda CB350.
1. handful of showrooms and service centers in the world’s largest motorcycle market
2. expensive to maintain, service, repair, replace parts
3. low resale value due to the above and hence not preferred
Other players providing comic relief to these leading actors in this segment are Benelli, Keeway, Bajaj Dominar 250 and Yezdi Roadster. They are hardly seen on roads and their showrooms / service centers even less so located on the map. Serious contenders such as Triumph Speed 400 and Harley-Davidson 440X don’t fit the retro-cruiser profile and are simply an option for those looking for middle-weight motorcycles with engines between 300cc to 750cc.

MRF MOTORCYCLE SAFETY DEPARTMENT REPORT–The MRF’s Motorcycle Safety Department (MSD) has been quite busy.
Thanks to Ryan’s assistance and patience, the MSD strategic plan is up to date and the department operations manual should be complete soon.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is looking to update several documents. The National Agenda for Motorcycle Safety (NAMS), the NAMS Implementation Guide, the Model National Standards for Entry-Level Motorcycle Rider Training and the Model National Administrative Standards for State Motorcycle Rider Education and Training Programs are all being reviewed.
NHTSA has contracted with a third party (TOXCEL) to collect input regarding these documents. They will be convening Communities of Practice (CoP) to discuss each of these areas. In an effort to ensure that participants have an understanding of the motorcyclists rights movement, as well as motorcycle safety, the MRF communicated with a number of rider education professionals from the State Motorcyclists Rights Organization (SMRO) family. Advocates that stepped up to the challenge include: Ron Braaksma – Iowa, Vince Consiglio – Michigan, Jay Jackson – Indiana, Gary Klinker – Wisconsin, Ed Schetter – Ohio, Imre Szauter – New Hampshire. The first meeting is scheduled for January 18th.
The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) is now (finally) seating the Motorcyclist Advisory Council (MAC). Applications were due December 15 and we are optimistic that appointments will be made soon. The MSD worked closely with our lobbyist to assemble the supporting documents for the application. Many SMROs offered their support as well as several members of Congress and the former MAC Chairman.
Thank you to all that assisted.
The status of the industry is still uncertain, depending on who you listen to. There was a slump in sales prior to COVID, but the pandemic spurred sales as people looked for outdoor activities to socially distance. It appears that we may be headed back toward pre-COVID numbers. Sales, new riders and rider education are all intertwined so we will watch closely to see what happens.

FEDS HOLD HEARING ON CALIFORNIA ONGOING RESTRICTIONS–
Yesterday the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) held a hearing on California’s plan to eliminate the sale of cars and trucks powered by internal combustion engines by 2035.
The Clean Air Act allows California to seek a waiver of the preemption which prohibits states from enacting emission standards for new motor vehicles. The EPA must grant a waiver before California’s rules can be enforced. Put more simply, this hearing is where the California Air Resources Board asks the EPA permission to enact its plan.
If the waiver is approved, beginning with model year 2026, a growing percent of new light duty vehicle sales must be zero emissions. The MRF will be submitting formal comments to the EPA on California’s plan and the threat it poses to our lifestyle. Stay tuned, this battle is heating up!

ON THE OTHER END OF THE SPECTRUM—
The CO2 Coalition is the “tip of the spear” for advancing scientific knowledge challenging the notion of man-made catastrophic warming.
We do this through interviews, blog articles, commentaries and op-eds, social media efforts on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.
In the last 12 months I’ve been very busy, publishing articles and commentaries, creating amicus and legal briefs and giving presentations (live and via Zoom).
In addition, I have done more than 230 interviews via television, radio and podcasts. I regularly issue statements for the media that are often then used in newspaper articles or in online media commentaries.
My new book, A Very Convenient Warming has just been released and its publication amplifies our CO2 Coalition message of the benefits of warming and more CO2.
When I took over the reins here in late 2020, I had a vision of how to unleash the power of this wonderful organization, but we only had two employees. That was not nearly the staff required to mount the national effort that I had planned.
The increase in funding that we have received from donors like you has enabled me to hire quality employees that we so desperately needed. These new hires have allowed us to greatly amplify our messaging and take on new projects.
With the recent addition on December 1 of our new Development and Operations Associate, we now have a total of eleven full and part-time employees, including one in Brazil and one in Scotland.
Vijay Jayaraj is a researcher and author who recently transitioned from his home in India to Aberdeen, Scotland, where he is studying for an advanced degree in energy economics. He has published more than 60 articles in the last year and often writes about energy poverty in the developing world.
Also assisting me is Byron Soepyan, our new Science and Research Associate who has a Ph.D. (Chemical Engineering). He previously worked as a carbon capture engineer until he realized that he was working to advance the harmful removal of a beneficial molecule from the atmosphere. He has seen the light.
Nothing we do here in terms of editorials and publications would be as effective without our Senior Advisor, Gordon Tomb. Gordon is our primary editor for all publications and also occasionally writes, mainly on energy. Everything we write, Gordon makes better.
I’m very proud of each and every publication our office has produced. It is our role as scientists to provide the scientific basis to reject policies that are based on incorrect projections – truly hyperbolic assertions – of catastrophic climate change.

HANG ON FOR THIS—
In Memoriam Professor Ray Bates
The author of this debated the climate question with Ray before the members of the Law Society of Ireland. I’ve cut to the chase here.–Bandit
But then I had written a model to take the monthly global temperature data from the various datasets and plot the trend. Practically no one else was doing that. There was endless talk about global warming, but no one was letting us in on the secret or how much (or, rather, how little) global warming was actually happening.
I discovered, and named, the Pause. From 1997 to 2015, a period of almost 19 years, there was no global warming at all. Yet the vast majority of the world’s news media had kept this fact secret. On seeing the temperature plot emerge on the screen as a least-squares linear-regression trend that was horizontal, I realized the world was being fooled.
I wondered why the world had not been warming for so long. For the greenhouse effect is a real effect. Why was it not warming the planet at even half the long-predicted medium-term 0.3 K/decade? That is why I began to investigate feedbacks, since feedback response constitutes three-fifths of midrange predicted warming.
At our meetings from time to time since the Galway debate, we would often talk with sadness of those in the scientific community who were unwilling to think for themselves but were instead wedded to the Party Line because it was temporarily fashionable and undemandingly safe.
Ray was one of many who quietly encouraged me and my team in our research, and he was among the many distinguished scientists, from Freeman Dyson to Will Happer, who had generously given us their time and support when no one else wanted to know. From time to time, he would send me his own learned papers and ask for my comments before he submitted them.
Ray Bates, then, dazzlingly and publicly exemplified the ancient truth that he who changes his mind when the evidence requires it provides irrefutable proof that he has a mind.
How, then, shall we honor the memory of that great man?
What I propose is this. We have now been working on our research for close to a decade. We submit that our result is no longer in doubt. It is not at all likely that global warming will be large enough or rapid enough to do net harm. Yet the journals of climatology will not publish our paper, not because it is wrong but because it is – to coin a phrase – the inconvenient truth. We have had some hilariously dopey reviews.
Therefore, if there are any learned readers of WattsUpWithThat who are curious, and would like to read our paper and give me any comments they would like to make, they can honor the memory of Ray Bates by doing what he did, asking for a copy of our paper, reading it, thinking about it and then letting us know whether we are right and, if so, how we can improve the paper. Just drop me a note at monckton[at]mail[dot]com and I shall send you the paper. It is just six pages long.
Meanwhile, may Ray Bates make merry in Heaven as he made us merry on Earth.

THE TATTOO STORY OF THE WEEK—
Get this. I know a girl who rides a Sportster and lives on a boat in a Los Angeles Marina. She met a rich guy recently, very rich who lives overlooking the beach. He plays video games during the day and parties at night.
So, the other night she’s hanging out with him and he says, “If you get ‘Property of Big Dog” tattooed on your cute ass, I’ll give you 100 grand.”
I don’t know if she’s a blonde or a redhead this week, but she didn’t mess around and the next afternoon texted him a shot of the tattoo. He needed to touch it before he’d pay.
He did and she’s a 100 grand richer.

WHY THE INDEPENDENT MOTORCYCLE AFTERMARK MATTERS–
In the current world of chaos, motorcycle riders and motorcyclists’ rights advocates stand for a brotherhood and sisterhood. We are united by a culture of independence that transcends political and geographical boundaries. We choose internal combustion motorcycles as a personal means of expression and utility to navigate our way through this world of bullshit.
We stand tall in a world of mindless followers, misdirected political agendas, and a general lack of balls to do the right thing.
As American bikers we have each other’s backs and we have learned to work together to protect the lifestyle, and in some cases, the livelihood we value.
Having traveled the world, I have ridden and partied with bikers from the Netherlands to Russia. Even with different languages and different cultures, motorcycles erased the differences. The battles we fight against false environmental narratives and misconceptions of our culture are not unique to America. It is so important that we continue to speak out and fight for the right to be individuals.
Our bikes are not just a mode of transportation but a personal expression of our individualism. The universal attack on internal combustion engines threatens the very core of our ability to repair and modify our machines. A government that wants to control every aspect of our lives does not want us building our own parts, much less building a complete custom vehicle.
The onslaught of regulations and restrictions must be stopped now if we are to continue running the highways and byways of this great country.
The MRF has done and will continue to do a great job keeping us informed and leading this fight. The new IMA division is dedicated to representing the independent dealers and custom builder businesses. As a current shop owner and five decades of working in the motorcycle industry, I understand how the daily challenges can be overwhelming.
I know shops get so busy they may not have time to keep up with the outside world or even believe it is ever going to be able to stop them doing what they do. I am asking you to get your favorite shop to join the Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket through the MRF, so some government agency doesn’t shut that shop down or stop it from doing what they do for you.
Thank you for reaching out to your favorite shop owner and telling him/her how essential the IMA and MRF are to the future of motorcycling. Thanks for getting them to join today.

LAP DANCE FOR WIND TURBINES?— British Green Energy Developers Accused of a New Low
“… The clean energy company strongly denies this allegation, saying that no such offer was ever made. …”
Farmer claims he was offered lap dance if he agreed to wind turbine on his land
Energy company offering Welsh landowners incentives to sign up to green schemes denies the allegations
Telegraph Reporters8 January 2024 • 11:09am
A farmer was offered cash and a trip to a lap dancing club in exchange for allowing a company to build a wind turbine on his land, according to a council document.
The apparent bribe was made as part of an alleged “dirty tricks” campaign to use financial incentives as a sweetener for more turbines across the Welsh countryside.
During an emergency meeting of Nelson community council near Caerphilly, South Wales, to discuss controversial new green power installations, minutes show a member of the public claimed that Bute Energy, a Scottish company focused on green power schemes in Wales, had made the offer to a local farmer.
The clean energy company strongly denies this allegation, saying that no such offer was ever made.

OPPORTUNITY–Poem by Berton Braley
With doubt and dismay you are smitten
You think there’s no chance for you, son?
Why, the best books haven’t been written
The best race hasn’t been run,
The best score hasn’t been made yet,
The best song hasn’t been sung,
The best tune hasn’t been played yet,
Cheer up, for the world is young!
No chance? Why the world is just eager
For things that you ought to create
Its store of true wealth is still meagre
Its needs are incessant and great,
It yearns for more power and beauty
More laughter and love and romance,
More loyalty, labor and duty,
No chance- why there’s nothing but chance!
For the best verse hasn’t been rhymed yet,
The best house hasn’t been planned,
The highest peak hasn’t been climbed yet,
The mightiest rivers aren’t spanned,
Don’t worry and fret, faint hearted,
The chances have just begun,
For the Best jobs haven’t been started,
The Best work hasn’t been done.

HERE’S THE EDITED TEXT FOR OUR MRF FREEDOM FLIER–
Climate Alarmism’s Threat to a Cycling Lifestyle
Harley-Davidson CEO Jochen Zeitz tells us in the Jalopnik newsletter that after 120 years of producing big gas-powered cycles, electrification is the logical next step in a so-called age of decarbonization.
REALLY? What’s the real deal? The true science?
FACT: Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a necessity for all life, not a pollutant that threatens our existence.
For millions of years, Earth has been in a relative CO2 famine. However, since the Industrial Revolution, increasing atmospheric CO2 has had a measurable, positive effect on plant life.
CO2 COALITION, with a membership of 150 scientists and researchers, is the leading organization standing for the truth about CO2’s benefits and for honest science.
JOIN the CO2 Coalition.
FINAL THOUGHT: Did you know that every wind turbine contains 80 gallons of oil?
We will never give in or give up on Freedom, the Truth or our Motorcycles.

TEXAS WEATHER REPORT–
I’m currently heading down to pull the 13.5s off the Dyna and put them on the RP. Then raise the front tubes up. They were lowered by the previous owner.
I had to remove the kick stand stop to even make regular left turns. But she is a fun little girl, when you keep her up around 4g, she runs! There is something different about an FXR, my friend Henry has an ‘85, but it needs help. He’s working a deal to trade his street glide for two FXRs. But he also has 11 bikes currently. I sent him this to tell his wife the plan is in motion, it can’t be stopped!
I’m going to focus on trying to find a police fairing in Texas somewhere, since it is an EF build originally. There’s one in California, but shipping is crazy expensive.
Thanks for the calendar, too cool.
Happy New Year!

THE BIKERNET TOUCHY ELECTRIC FILES–
Electric vehicles were supposed to be inevitable. Two years ago, President Joe Biden climbed behind the wheel of a beefy white electric Hummer to tout his plan to make half of all new cars sold electric by 2030.
The following year Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act, which created a bevy of incentives for drivers to buy electric and for automakers to invest in EVs. That set off a flurry of new projects: EV plants, battery-manufacturing facilities, and mining operations began popping up. By the end of 2022 the situation looked promising: More and more Americans were going electric, and soon everyone would be driving an EV, reducing emissions in the process.
But the electric-vehicle takeover has hit some serious roadblocks.
Sure, sales of EVs keep going up — a record 300,000 cars sold in the US in the third quarter of 2023 were electric — but the pace of adoption has markedly slowed, and analysts have suggested the country is no longer on track to hit the government’s sales targets.
The trickle-down effects of this decreased demand are everywhere. EVs accumulated at dealerships this fall, even as automakers cut prices to try to entice customers. Automakers have backtracked on their promised investments: Ford delayed $12 billion of its planned $50 billion investment in EV manufacturing capacity, while General Motors delayed production of key EV models and scrapped a $5 billion partnership with Honda to make cheaper EVs.
Even Tesla — once the superstar of EVs — announced it would delay a planned factory in Mexico. Auto execs who were once trumpeting the potential of electric cars are even publicly acknowledging that EVs aren’t working.
“The entire myth at the heart of this whole transition is that the battery car seamlessly fits right into the gas car’s position,” Edward Niedermeyer, the author of “Ludicrous: The Unvarnished Story of Tesla Motors,” told me. “It doesn’t, and that’s the problem.”

DOOMSDAY ISN’T COMING–
Musician Ted Nugent slammed climate change as a scam and made false claims that global warming is “bulls—t” in a recent episode of his podcast Spirit Campfire.
“You have to have sh—for brains to believe this global warming bullsh—t,” Nugent said. “If you believe it, you have sh—for brains. While you were sleeping, someone opened your skull and took a dump inside your skull.”
Nugent, who is known for his role in The Amboy Dukes band and for his successful solo career, has made controversial statements and become a conservative voice against Democrats, transgender rights, the COVID-19 pandemic and science-backed climate change.
On his podcast, Nugent also attacked electric vehicles, dubbing them a scam. He said people “have to be mentally ill to believe in electric vehicles” and to believe that “wind turbines are better than coal or oil or natural gas or propane.”

BELATED 100-WORD FICTION ENTRY—
Brushed the inch or so of fresh snow from the saddle of my ole girl. Kicked her to life and let her warm up. Eased out onto the road and headed to the hospice where a good friend was in the last phase of his time.
Pulled into the parking lot shaking off the chill and walked to the counter to check in. Too late, he had passed in the night.
RIP my friend.
Tears turned to ice drops on the ride home.

TODAY’S HISTORY LESSON–1901
Gusher signals start of U.S. oil industry
On this day in 1901, a drilling derrick at Spindletop Hill near Beaumont, Texas, produces an enormous gusher of crude oil, coating the landscape for hundreds of feet and signaling the advent of the American oil industry. The geyser was discovered at a depth of over 1,000 feet.

The Mama Tried Motorcycle Show and adjoining Flat Out Friday races are a bright spot in the dead of cold, Wisconsin winters. The show has amassed an army of followers and fans that give the weekend its signature style: People are the heart of the show; the bikes are the social lubrication. The Harley-Davidson Museum’s special exhibit, “Mama Tried: Bringing it Together,” focuses on the builders, the racers and the fans that gather over a bike or a brew.

Long-Time Riders: Lee & Pearl (on display now)
At the H-D Museum entrance, a new case featuring two long-time Wisconsin riders is on display. Lee and Pearl Christopherson have been together since meeting on a motorcycle in 1958. Lee was a member of the Blue Knights, a group of active or retired law enforcement officers. While Lee can’t begin to guess how many miles he’s ridden over 76 years, Pearl has kept track of her time in the saddle and surpassed 175,000 miles in the summer of 2023. The display features Pearl’s Motor Maids shirt and vest along with a Blue Knights Club vest from Lee, and the couple’s H.O.G. patch and pin collection.
Clubs & Competition (on display now)
In the early part of the 20th century, motorcycle culture was a homegrown phenomenon. It grew out of the passion of riders for their evolving sport. The camaraderie that developed around riding and attending competitive events led to the formation of motorcycle clubs that hosted destination rides, family picnics with motorcycle games and other riding competitions.
The display case in the Clubs & Competition gallery highlights clothing from club members from primarily the 1930s and 1940s. The clothing selections on view include full dress uniforms, shirts, sweaters, jackets and caps, customized by the owners with their club’s name and logo, and pins or patches indicating membership in the American Motorcyclist Association. The H-D Archives collection includes Motorclothes apparel sold in H-D product catalogs but also non-H-D produced clothing items that have been proudly customized by riders.
“Off-Road Harley-Davidson” (on display now)
In the decades before America paved its highways, early riders had to be prepared for all sorts of terrain: sand, clay or dirt – and wandering those makeshift byways were Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Today, it’s called off-road or adventure touring; back then it was just called riding. Since 1903, Harley-Davidson motorcycles proved their toughness by riding over wooded hills, through stone-choked creek beds and up mountain sides. “Off-Road Harley-Davidson” tells the history of motorcycles designed for rough roads, the people who rode them and the adventures they shared. This exhibition will close in March, so make tracks to see “Off-Road Harley-Davidson” before it hits the road.

SHIT’S HAPPENING EVERYWHERE—
We are rolling with it. I’ll bet you can’t miss that gorgeous AI image above. I’m writing a story about women and boobs. Hang on…
I found a place in the shop for a different style of calendar. The art actually can be peeled off and framed. Not bad.
I had a 5-Ball vest without any pins, so I started looking in drawers fulla pins from various events. This 2Wheelers 25th anniversary pin was a major, high quality standout. That 25th anniversary was almost 30 years ago. Arlin and Donna are still going strong in Denver and Sturgis during the rally. Incredible.
It’s starting to get serious about snow and cold, but check it out at the shop home. Not bad.
Chopper Dave is finally coming across with our point cover coasters, but I believe he got the order wrong. Oh, what the hell, we’ll survive. Can’t wait to see them finished. We’ll have Xmas gifts for next year already…
Lowbrow still makes stripped grips, but they don’t make the orange and black jobs, so I had to modify them. I would still buy a batch if I could.
Chopper Dave was having a problem with the orange on the point cover, so I sent the shot of the grips and a 5-Ball
I have a couple of techs hanging-fire. I’ll get to them or die trying.
In the meantime, ride fast and free forever, goddammit.
