How a Florida woman helped change the motorcycle industry

by Daniel Figueroa IV from https://www.wmnf.org These days, motorcyclists live and die by their Dyno sheets, the ultimate measure of an engine’s power. But when the machines came out in the late 80s, it was a women in Florida who bought one of the first units and helped reshape the world of motorcycling. Fifty years later Pam Brown remembers how she got her start wrenching on engines with her dad. They’d work on Volkswagen parts together because he happened to need a hand and she was the one who was around. But when he bought her brothers some single-speed mini bikes, small motorcycles, they were off limits. “He said I could not ride a motorcycle because you are a girl,” Brown recalled. “Girls don’t ride motorcycles.” Fortunately for her, Brown’s neighbor had a crush and a full-fledged motorcycle. “Jimmy Keeler, that’s right” she said. “Eighty cc Binelli.” He let her take a ride. She let the clutch out a little too quick and popped an accidental wheelie, sped down a hill and went – maybe a little too quickly – into a turn. But she made it. And she fell in love. Brown is one half of the couple behind Cycle-Rama, a high performance machine shop in Pinellas Park known over the world for building some of the most coveted aftermarket engine parts in the V-Twin motorcycle world. She’s been there for 38 of the shop’s 45-year existence. But it was in 1989 that Pam Brown put her foot down and made a purchase that helped reshape the world of powersports. The chassis dynamometer In the late 80s, Mark Dobeck invented the first chassis dynamometer. Before that, a mechanic had to ride a bike to tune it and measuring horsepower and torque was mostly a guessing game. Dobeck’s Dyno allowed bikes to be tested and tuned right in the shop. Henry Tecza was one of the first to have a dynamometer in his Las Vegas Shop. He said those early adopters changed the game. “I mean, you had a piece of equipment that was rare in the motorcycle industry,” Tecza said. “It kind of put you ahead of anybody else as having the latest tuning abilities.” With the dyno, motorcycle mechanics were able to test the power claims made by parts manufacturers and fine-tune a motorcycle’s performance to pull the most out of a bike. These days the machines are staples. “It’s not uncommon for every serious shop to have a Dyno. It’s a necessary tool.” Oh my gosh, it’s a girl riding that motorcycle By 1989 Brown had been in the motorcycle world for almost a decade. She got her start with a parts distributor in Atlanta. She was one of few women in the shop and quickly started out performing some of the men. That earned her a promotion to being the only woman delivery driver and eventually the only woman in the sales department. Women ridership has doubled in the last decade. But at that time, women weren’t prominent in the motorcycle world. “Even just riding motorcycles,” she said. “When I would get off my motorcycle people were shocked that ‘Oh my gosh it’s a girl riding that motorcycle.’” The job in Atlanta led to her meeting Wes Brown, Cycle-Rama’s founder. After a few years in Atlanta she moved to Florida to be closer to Wes. She took a job in Tampa with another distributor, but they wanted her to use her voice for more than selling. “If I’m giving you the right information, you’re gonna buy stuff from me and I know this because I’d been doing it for two-and-a-half years,” Brown said. “But they wanted me to be vulgar. They wanted me to be like a phone sex line and I didn’t agree with that and I wouldn’t do it.” So, she started working with Wes full time. Within a year, they were married. Changing the game When Dobeck came out with his chassis dynamometer, Pam Brown saw it’s potential. Her husband wasn’t so sure. “I didn’t convince him so much as I strong-armed him into it,” she said. “I said ‘with or without you, I’m buying this machine.’” Not only did she buy it, she was the one who ran it. “I used cardboard and duct tape and pieces of plywood and Pepsi cans to change the airflow just to see what would happen,” she said. Cycle-Rama soon had the first dyno machine in Florida and one of the only ones on the east coast. Companies reached out to have their products put on the Dyno. Brown was able to test all kinds of new parts and help design the company’s own performance components. Dobeck remembers those early days. “I must’ve dropped their name a hundred times,” he said. “Say oh, well Cycle-Rama has one. It was a great relationship.” Nothing like getting mansplained your own parts Now 59, Pam Brown is still respected through the industry. John Dahmer owns Darkhorse Crankworks. Darkhorse specializes in motorcycle bottom ends, while Cycle-Rama specializes in top ends. He said in an industry still dominated by men, Pam Brown is not one question. “The motorcycle market I think as a whole can be very tough on women. It’s a bit more male-dominated industry,” Dahmer said. “A lot of guys will either test her or challenge her as far as her knowledge. She knows it inside and out and when you know it inside and out somebody trying to challenge it isn’t going to fare very well.” But Brown said that doesn’t stop them from trying. Even when it comes to parts she helped design. “Nothing like getting mansplained your own parts,” she said. She doesn’t let it get to her though and said other women in motorcycling shouldn’t either. At the end of the day, she’s still one of the best at doing what she loves – helping diagnose and fix engines. “I ask a lot of questions and then I can see it in my mind because I’ve taken motorcycles apart,” she said. “If I could just do that all day, that would be awesome to me. Just take motorcycles apart to see what happened.”

Harley-Davidson Dealer remembered as the community’s unsung hero

by Eddie Morales from https://www.jsonline.com

The owner of Cedarburg’s Wayne’s Drive-In and a Harley Davidson dealer in Thiensville is remembered as the community’s unsung hero.

When Wayne Houpt achieved his goal of becoming a business owner with Wayne’s Auto Body in 1962, it was just the beginning of the many accolades he would earn and lives that he would touch.

Houpt, born Oct. 1, 1938, was a family man and owner of several North Shore businesses for nearly 60 years. He died March 28 due to heart failure.

The Famous Wheeler Dealer

Houpt met his wife and business partner, Joan, during their senior year in high school. The pair were together for 59 years.

He started his entrepreneurial career with Wayne’s Auto Body in Saukville. Houpt expanded the business with a used car lot and moved the shop to Grafton, where he opened Suburban Motors of Grafton Inc.

In 1975, Houpt added Harley-Davidson motorcycles to his inventory and in 1985, he moved Suburban Motors to its current location, 139 N. Main St., Thiensville.

That’s when Houpt earned the moniker “The Famous Wheeler Dealer.” He was known for accepting trades like cows, dental service and boats from customers who were a bit short on cash.

Houpt’s daughter, Sandy Rath, said she remembers her father taking the family to various burger restaurants when she was a kid.

Rath would later realize Houpt was taste testing the food in anticipation of opening his own restaurant one day.

Houpt opened Wayne’s Drive-In in 1998, at 1331 Covered Bridge Road, Cedarburg.

Rath said when the drive-in first opened, Houpt would eat there all the time.

“He would go to Wayne’s the minute it opened,” she said. “He was like a kid in a candy shop. He loved that drive-in. He loved going there, and he would sit there like all the other customers and get himself something to eat.”

Remembered by his family

Rath said her father’s passion for life was in making sure other people were having fun.

On Sundays, Houpt and his wife would take their kids to places like Sunburst Winter Sports Park or a roller skating rink to experience things that he didn’t do as a child.

“He was so in touch with us and what we did,” said Rath.

She said that even when she was taking care of Houpt at home after his final hospital stay, he would muster up the energy to ask how everyone was doing.

His big heart extended beyond his family. Rath said her “humble” father would help others in secret.

Houpt’s wife said he didn’t want recognition for helping his employees buy their first home or for helping pay their medical bills.

“I remember one of our employees, their house burned down, and we took them in for a couple of nights,” Joan Houpt said. “He was just a giving person. He did a lot of things, and most of the things he did anonymously.”

Rath said her father would always root for the underdog.

“He had this sixth sense of seeing the good in people that others might not necessarily see,” said Rath.

Honored by the community

In the ’90s, Houpt supplied chalkboards and books to inmates for the Ozaukee County Jail Literacy Program.

Rath said he was very involved in the Special Olympics, and he earned a Friends of 4-H award in 2002.

Houpt’s community involvement was recognized by in 2004 when he was named Ozaukee County’s Exemplary Citizen for his efforts in ensuring that local organizations and businesses would profit from events related to Harley-Davidson’s 100th anniversary.

In 2019, the FBI Milwaukee Citizens Academy Alumni Association presented Houpt with an Unsung Heroes Award, in honor of his dedication to the community.

Houpt is survived by his wife; four children, Sandy, Mary, Joe and Nancy; and 13 grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. April 5 at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. April 6 at Our Lady of the Lakes St. Mary Chapel, 300 Butler St., Random Lake.

Wayne’s Drive-In will postpone its opening day for the season to celebrate Houpt’s life with his family. The Drive-In will open at 11 a.m. April 6.

THE INFRASTRUCTURE REPORT FROM THE NMA–Equity and Sustainability

Those are the buzzwords used frequently by city transportation officials as they seek to achieve “complete streets” nirvana. Before we attempt to define the overused terms, it is essential to know why they are more in vogue now in transportation and urban planning circles than ever before.

In December, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) proposed a new federal rule that would lead to the first significant overhaul of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) since 2009. The title of the rule is decidedly boring—National Standards for Traffic Control Devices; the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways; Revision—but if enacted as proposed, it will be tremendously impactful to drivers for generations to come. And not in a good way.

The amended MUTCD would incorporate hundreds of changes to the existing set of standards, arguably the most consequential being abolishing the 85th percentile rule for setting speed limits. The national speed limit standard that the FHWA is charged with overseeing would become “should” guidance rather than a “shall” requirement for local transportation officials. That creates the potential for a patchwork of varying speed-limit regulations across the country, leaving drivers uncertain of the road rules whenever they cross from one county or city line to the next.

More troubling is the likelihood—with the FHWA proposing to drop the collecting of traffic speed measurements to determine the safest, most efficient travel rate—that posted limits will fall further below average traffic speeds. That has the potential of making violators of a more significant majority of responsible drivers. The processing of traffic tickets in the US is already a multi-billion dollar industry annually. Enactment of the changes to the MUTCD could easily raise ticket revenue collection to heights even more unfathomable.

The National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) and several of its city members have responded publicly to the proposed MUTCD revision with similar talking points, decrying the effort at reform as too weak “to advance any meaningful safety, equity, or sustainability benefits.” The organization claims that “the Manual’s over-emphasis on motor vehicle operations and efficiency on rural highways [neglects] other modes and contexts.”

Before explaining what NACTO means by equity and sustainability, it is important to understand its devotion to the concept of “complete streets.” Per Wikipedia, “Complete streets is a transportation policy and design approach that requires streets to be planned, designed, operated, and maintained to enable safe, convenient and comfortable travel and access for users of all ages and abilities regardless of their mode of transportation.”

Equity in this context refers to the concern that the infrastructure for vehicular travel is given priority in spending and implementation over other modes of mobility such as pedestrian, bicycle, and public transit. The transportation industry defines sustainability as “the capacity to support the mobility needs of a society in a manner that is least damageable to the environment and does not impair the mobility needs of future generations.”

NACTO and complete-streets believers want roads redesigned to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists. They also want to place restrictions on cars, trucks, and motorcycles to create more equality between modes of travel.

But here’s the thing: It isn’t the FHWA and the MUTCD that has created an imbalance in road use between driving, walking, bicycling, and the use of public transit. It is the demonstrated will of the public.

The American Community Survey of the US Census Bureau released this graph of participation levels of commuters by mode of transportation, citing remarkably consistent census data from 2015 to 2019:

Walking has held steady between 2.6 and 2.8 percent. The Bicycle portion, too small to quantify in this graph, is only 0.5 to 0.6 percent. The equal influence that Complete Streets programs seek for pedestrians and cyclists comes at great cost. Reducing car lanes and street parking in favor of more bike lanes while slowing/congesting traffic by over-regulation is like the 3-percent tail trying to wag the 85-percent dog. The contrast is even starker if over-the-road freight and commercial delivery services are included in the data.

Safety improvements should be made to protect all road users, but the complete-streets mission of reconfiguring road designs and clamping down on drivers to service little-used modes of travel borders on the irrational.

Buttock Tattoo Terror Lands Rotterdam, EnglandPair In Hospital

A furious row has broken out between a local tattoo artist and his client after what started out as a routine inking session left both of them requiring emergency hospital treatment.

Furious film fan and part-time plus-size XXXL model Tracey Munter (23), had visited the ‘Ink It Good’ Tattoo Emporium in Wellgate, Yorkshire last week, to have the finishing touches applied to a double buttock representation of the chariot race scene from the iconic 1959 film, Ben Hur.

Tattooist Jason Burns takes up the story.

“It was a big job in more ways than one”, he told us “I’d just lit a roll-up and was finishing off a centurions helmet. It’s delicate, close up work. Next thing is, I sense a slight ripple in the buttock cleavage area just around Charlton Heston’s whip, and a hissing sound – more of a whoosh than a rasp – and before I know what’s happening, there’s a flame shooting from her arse to my fag and my beards gone up like an Aussie bush fire.”

Jason says he rushed to the studio sink to quell the flames, only to turn round and see Tracey frantically fanning her buttock area with a damp towel The flames had travelled down the gas cloud and set fire to her thong which was smoking like a cheap firework.

“To be honest”, said Jason, “I didn’t even realize she was wearing one. You’d need a sodding mining licence and a torch to find out for sure. She could have had a complete wardrobe in there and I’d have been none the wiser.”

Jason and Tracey were taken to Rotherham District Hospital accident and emergency department where they were treated for minor burns and shock. Both are adamant that the other is to blame.

“I’m furious” said Jason, “I’ve got a face like a mange-ridden dog and my left eyebrow’s not there anymore. I don’t know about Ben Hur – Gone With The Wind would be more appropriate. You don’t just let rip in someone’s face like that. It’s dangerous”

But Tracey remains both angry and unrepentant.

“I’m still in agony,” she said, “and Charlton Heston looks more like Sidney bloody Poitier now. Jason shouldn’t have had a fag on the go when he’s doing close up work, there’s no way I’d guff on purpose. He’d had me on all fours for nearly an hour. I can only put up with that for so long before nature takes its course. My Kev knows that I give him my five-second warning, and I’d have done the same for Jason, but I didn’t get a chance – it just quietly crept out.”

Ted Walters from the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service wasn’t surprised when we asked him to comment on what had happened.

“People just don’t appreciate the dangers,” he told us. “We get more call outs to flatulence ignition incidents than kitchen fires these days now that people have moved over to oven chips. We have a slogan ‘Flame ‘n fart – keep ’em apart’ Anyone engaging in an arse-inking scenario would do well to bear that in mind in future. On behalf of the entire Fire and Rescue service, we wish them both a swift recovery.”

You couldn’t make it up!

REPORT FROM THE Deputies: Teens blame autopilot for crash with patrol car

PALM COAST – A pair of South Carolina teenagers claimed that their car was on autopilot before it crashed into a Florida deputy’s patrol car, officials said.

The crash occurred last Friday in Palm Coast, according to a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office news release. Palm Coast is located just north of Daytona Beach.

A deputy pulled over a white 2018 Tesla after watching it pull out of a gas station parking lot and travel on the wrong side of the road, official said. The car initially came to a stop and then backed into the deputy’s patrol vehicle.

The deputy reported finding two girls, ages 14 and 15, inside the car, but neither was in the driver seat.

The teens told deputies that they were traveling from Charleston, South Carolina, to visit the father of one of the girls. When questioned, the girls said the Tesla was driving itself in autopilot mode when it backed into the patrol car. Investigators later determined that one of the teens was operating the vehicle before putting it in autopilot, causing the crash.

No damage was done to the patrol car, officials said. The Tesla had about $300 in damage. Police did not specify which teenager was the driver but said she was cited for driving without a license.

Editor’s Note: Could have been a motorcycle they hit. This does leave room for a lot of questions not only about the car but also what were they doing in it.

QUICK, OPEN THE BANDIT’S CANTINA BAD JOKE LIBRARY–An old tired-looking dog wanders into a guy’s yard. He examines the dog’s collar and feels his well-fed belly and knows the dog has a home.

The dog follows him into the house, goes down the hall, jumps on the couch, gets comfortable, and falls asleep. The man thinks it’s rather odd, but lets him sleep. After about an hour the dog wakes up, walks to the door and the guy lets him out. The dog wags his tail and leaves.

The next day the dog comes back and scratches at the door. The guy opens the door, the dog comes in, goes down the hall, jumps on the couch, gets comfortable, and falls asleep again. The man lets him sleep. After about an hour the dog wakes up, walks to the door and the guy lets him out. The dog wags his tail and leaves.

This goes on for days. The guy grows really curious, so he pins a note on the dog’s collar: “Your dog has been taking a nap at my house every day.”

The next day the dog arrives with another note pinned to his collar: “He lives in a home with four children — he’s trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?’

THE CHALK BOARD STORY— Can you imagine wanting to make sure you drove by a certain gas station every day? Just to see what the message was on the chalk board? It’s true — a gas station has become quite a landmark in Gauteng, South Africa, with its daily #PetrolPumpWisdom, which are uplifting quotes written on a chalkboard. Some people say they deliberately travel this route just to read the quote which brightens their day.

The lady behind this wonderful initiative at Hutton Hyde Park is Alison Billett.
She told SAPeople: “We inherited the board from the previous owner, Dick Hutton, when we bought the filling station from him almost 20 years ago. We continued the tradition and it has become a landmark – more so now that it’s on social media!

“Not a day goes by when I don’t get a call or a visit from someone to tell me how much they appreciate the message – it seems that every day there’s something that just speaks to what is going on in someone’s life and that inspires or motivates them.”

“Having people come and tell me their stories and how the quote helped them in some small way is what motivates me to keep writing! We use a variety of quotations – some are topical, some are funny, some are inspirational, some even reflect what is going on in my life that day!

OK to let a fool kiss you, but not OK to let a kiss fool you.

Kiss is merely shopping upstairs for real merchandise downstairs.

Better to lose a lover than love a loser.

Man with broken condom often called Daddy.

Drunken man’s words often sober man’s thoughts.

Marriage is same as bank account. You put it in, you take it out, you lose interest.

Viagra just like Disneyland ……One hour wait for 2-minute ride..

Joke is just like sex. Neither any good if you don’t get it.

Virginity like bubble on stream of life, one prick, and it’s gone forever.

Man who eat many prunes, get good run for money.

Baseball is wrong: Man with four balls cannot walk.

Man who fight with wife all day, get no piece at night.

It take many nails to build crib, but one screw to fill it.

Man who fish in other man’s well often catch crabs.

Crowded elevator smell different to midget.

Man who wants pretty nurse, must be patient.

Passionate kiss, like spider web, leads to undoing of fly.

Man who leaps off cliff, jumps to conclusion.

SEMA ON RACERS RIGHTS–As previously reported, SEMA has intervened in an EPA enforcement case to protect the rights of racers.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, while acknowledging the fundamental issue raised by SEMA, declined to make a ruling in the lawsuit between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Gear Box Z. Inc. (GBZ). While pursuing GBZ for tampering allegations, the EPA made statements in its court filings that the Clean Air Act (CAA) does not allow a motor vehicle to be converted into a racing vehicle used solely for competition and that equipment installed to make the conversion is illegal. SEMA challenged this flawed interpretation of the CAA first made by the EPA in 2015 and now repeated in the court filing.

The Court ruled that the EPA produced evidence that the subject products sold by GBZ were being used on highway vehicles, with no evidence of use on motor sports vehicles. Therefore, lacking evidence of the converting of road vehicles to dedicated race cars, which would have necessitated the Court address the issue, the Court declined to rule on whether the CAA disallows conversions of street vehicles to dedicated racing machines.

While not settling the street-to-racecar conversion issue, SEMA’s filing of the amicus brief was impactful for several reasons. First, it demonstrates the need for the U.S. Congress to enact the “Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act” (RPM Act), bi-partisan legislation to clarify that it is legal to make such conversions and to produce, market and install racing equipment. Second, the Court’s opinion did offer some favorable language with the Court confirming that it is the EPA’s burden to produce evidence that emissions-related equipment is being used illegally on highway vehicles when making such a claim.

SEMA will continue to work tirelessly to settle the EPA’s overreach by passing the RPM Act.

THE LAW TIGER TIP–PROTECT YOURSELF
Motorcycle Accident Insurance Coverage and Safety Gear

Motorcycle Insurance Coverage

There are actions you can take to protect yourself before and after a motorcycle accident. For example, it is important to wear the proper safety gear and know what to do at the scene of an accident.

If you are involved in an accident and need to file an injury claim with an insurance company, the assistance of an experienced motorcycle accident attorney can help ensure that your rights are protected and that you receive the compensation you deserve.

Basic Motorcycle Insurance Protection
Protection Against Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist

Your Motorcycle Accident Claim

Importance of Motorcycle Accident Investigations
Unfortunately, there is often a mistaken belief among many in the public that most motorcycle accidents are caused by motorcyclists. For this reason, motorcycle accident investigations can be critical in challenging this misconception during the claims process or in court.

A motorcycle accident investigation can accurately establish the sequence of events that led to the accident in order to support the validity of the motorcycle accident claim.

It is important to understand that while motorcycle accident investigations can substantiate victims’ claims, they can also refute these claims. Therefore, it is essential for victims to discuss the details of their motorcycle accident claim with an experienced motorcycle accident attorney who can advise them on the best possible course of action.

CONDUCTING MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATIONS

The motorcycle accident victim is perhaps the most important source of information about the circumstances of an accident. For this reason, all motorcyclists should know the appropriate steps to take at an accident scene. Following an accident, and after ensuring that all individuals involved in the accident are safe and receive the necessary medical care, including the rider and passenger, the motorcyclists should collect as much information as possible.

The information can prove invaluable in assisting an accident investigation and reconstruction team in recreating the most accurate account of the accident.

Notes, photos, sketches, and witness accounts can all be crucial elements in the investigation and reconstruction, and can provide the most solid factual foundations upon which motorcycle accident claims can be proven.

THE BIKERNET MEDIA REPORT–
the Hysterical Girlie-man Press Cult & Cross-dressing Autoasphyxiates Journalism Corps seems to be ramping-up the crisis level again like they did last March.

We could be in for another year of this. The freak farms that generate health advisors are in full operation again with old staged photos of ten people in hazmat suits carrying a coffin with an alleged corpse in it.

TURNS OUT, according to the health “experts” getting the vaccine does not protect you from the….whatever it is we’re being protected from. So: slowing the spread doesn’t work, wearing masks doesn’t work, staying inside doesn’t work, antisocial distancing doesn’t work, getting the vaccine doesn’t work, not getting the vaccine doesn’t work.

It’s almost like this is a huge game to see just how fucking stupid and pliable everyone is. We’re being forced to obey and then are being told that obeying isn’t working. We need more obedience because being at-liberty is creating a disease. No, we’re not fucked. Not at all.

KEEPING THE BANDIT’S CANTINA BAD JOKE LIBRARY WIDE OPEN—NO MASKS

AN OLD LADY
An older lady headed to the bank to make a withdrawal. She handed her bank card to a bank cashier and said, “I would like to withdraw $10.

The cashier told her, “For withdrawals less than $100 please use the ATM.”

The old lady wanted to know why … The cashier returned her bank card and irritably told her, “These are the rules. Please leave if there is no other matter. There is a line of customers behind you.

The old lady remained silent for a few seconds, then handed the card back to the cashier and said, “Please help me withdraw all the money I have.”

The cashier was astonished when she checked the account balance. She nodded her head, leaned down and told her, “You have $500,000 in your account and the bank doesn’t have that much cash currently. Could you make an appointment and come back tomorrow?”

The old lady then asked how much she could withdraw immediately. The cashier told her any amount up to $3,000.

“Well, please let me have $3,000 now”.

The cashier then angrily went back to the vault retrieved stacks of $20’s and $10’s and spent the next ten minutes counting out $3,000. “Is there anything else I can do for you today?”, the teller asked sternly.

The old lady put $10 in her purse and said “yes, I’d like to deposit $2,990 into my account.”

THE PANDAMIC UPDATE–
The world health disorganization has said, after allegedly much scrutiny, that the Chinee Fru very likely did NOT come from a secret bio Star Wars lab of agonizing death but rather most likely from a bat or perhaps some other nonhuman life form.

Which, just so you know, is where MOST of the annual mutations of flu come from. So why we are not masking our dogs and cats is to me a mystery since THAT would actually be SOMEWHAT effective, unlike what the fuck ever we are doing now.

WELL!!!…..the press and the NYtimes, and especially the latter which concocted this whole pandemic charade and the dems…….are very pissed at the world health disorganization. LOOK FOR THIS STORY TO DISAPPEAR or at least for the WHO to say, “Oh, sorry. we made a mistake. it came from the wu tang clan bio lab just like the ny times said.”

THE FUELL VS. BUELL SUMMARY–
It is yet to be seen how much success the renewed Buell Motorcycles will have – they were immensely popular until Harley-Davidson began the decline of that brand.

Erik Buell’s new e-bikes with Fuell brand seem competitively priced with other popular e-bikes but they have yet to offer an electric motorcycle. Fuell has only one product in the market, which is the e-bicycle.

Other brands have multiple e-bicycles or have multiple electronic motorcycles. In USA, Zero seems to be at the top of the game in electric motorcycles with consistent improvements and choices in models.

Harley-Davidson has a few models for e-bicycles but the price demanded compared to the features it offers is too expensive to ever compete with other brands specializing in e-bicycles.

Triumph is a major brand developing an electric motorcycle and it is expected that other big brands such as BMW, Honda, etc will come up with quality, reliable electric motorcycles at reasonable price and reasonable maintenance.

Harley-Davidson LiveWire already seems like a white elephant which is too expensive to buy and difficult to maintain with poor mileage and charging compared to Zero Motorcycles. So, when other big brands come to market, they will compete with the likes of Zero and LiveWire will further face decline in value for money for customers as well as for the Company.

Motul and Honda Racing Corporation Aim for the Top in World Super Bike Partnership

Singapore, Mar 31, 2021 – (ACN Newswire) – One of Motul’s longest-standing and most valued OEM partners is Honda, and the two companies have developed and enjoyed over many decades a dedicated technical collaboration and proud support of Honda’s HRC factory racing teams in many different motorsport arenas. At the start of 2020 Honda returned to the Motul FIM World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) as a full factory squad.

Now, for the 2021 season, Team HRC and its two riders, Alvaro Bautista and Leon Haslam, will benefit further from Motul’s support as Official Lubricant Partner. Having made great steps forward with every race in 2020, there is only one aim for this season: the top!

A partnership with strength in depth

The trust and deeply cooperative working relationship that has developed over the years has seen Motul contribute to the performance, reliability and efficiency of HRC’s competition models over all terrains including circuits, off-road and desert. The strength of this partnership has resulted in multiple victories in many different championships, most notably three wins for HRC at the Dakar Rally – the first being in 1989 and the most recent being this year, 2021. It has also led to several championship titles with Team HRC in MXGP including 2019 and 2020 in the hands of their super-dominant star rider Tim Gajser.

Smoothing the way with Motul

Together with Motul, Team HRC has been continuing development of the CBR1000RR-RR FIREBLADE, with continual feedback to engineers in Japan. Among Motul’s international R & D centers is one in Japan whose engineers collaborate with HRC’s engine development department on a range of different projects including the development of high-tech synthetic lubricants. Principal among these is the tailor-made Motul 300V Factory Line Racing Kit Oil 2376H 0W-30 fully synthetic engine oil which will be used alongside the Motocool Factory Line and MC CARE range of products.

The viscosity grade 0W-30, 100% synthetic lubricant yields a low traction coefficient thanks to the EsterCore technology, generating a friction reduction and therefore providing a significant gain in engine power.

Nicolas Zaugg, Motul Chief Value Officer: “We are delighted to be extending our great working relationship with Honda and HRC to WorldSBK. The collaborative vision and technological partnership we have developed together is the perfect example of Motul’s living laboratory philosophy-developing and testing experimental products in a racing application before offering them for sale to a wider customer base. It’s a win-win deal as far as we are concerned.”

Tetsuhiro Kuwata, HRC Director – General Manager Race Operations Management Division: “We are pleased to announce Motul as Official Sponsor of our factory Team HRC in the highly competitive 2021 FIM Motul Superbike World Championship, thereby extending the relationship between our brands and further strengthening what is a very important project for us, with our CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP.

Honda and Motul each boast a long and successful history in high-level motorsport competition around the world, both brands being driven by the constant pursuit of victory and by the strong belief that the racing arena is the ideal setting in which to grow our human capital and develop our know-how and technology.

In doing so, we offer our customers the best possible products, while bringing joy and excitement to our fans around the world. We are living in a time of great challenges, but we are ready to fight to achieve our mutual goals, which we will pursue with determination, positivity, and confidence in the future.”

Yamaha Delivers Essential Support to American Public Lands for Outdoor Recreation

from https://motorcycles.einnews.com

Outdoor Access Initiative Contributes Over $350,000 to Land Conservancy in 2020

Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, today announces the completion of the 2020 Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative (OAI) grant cycle with funding decisions for the fourth quarter. In total, Yamaha granted more than $350,000 in 2020 while supplying essential support to public lands providing vital access to outdoor recreation across the country. The Yamaha OAI program continues to lead the powersports industry in providing direct monetary support to grassroots efforts helping to protect, expand, and improve entry to public spaces off-road for motorized recreation.

“The pressure on public lands during the pandemic has been enormous due to people finding solace outdoors. Their adventures gave off-road enthusiasts a much-needed breather from the stress we’ve all experienced over the past year,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s Motorsports marketing manager. “Public land belongs to everyone and we all have a responsibility to take care of it. Yamaha is proud to continue supporting our riders’ favorite outdoor activities, including OHV riding, hunting, camping and fishing, through the Outdoor Access Initiative.”

The fourth quarter 2020 Yamaha OAI grants totaling more than $90,000 were awarded to the following organizations:

Blue Ribbon Coalition – Pocatello, ID
East Branch Sno-Rovers & ATV Club – Medway, Maine
Idaho Single Track Alliance – Idaho Falls, ID
Reno Area Dirtriders – Reno, NV
Swampsiders Snowmobile Club – Bigfork, MN

“The need for funding and leadership for public lands increased exponentially in 2020 with more people engaging in outdoor recreation at the same time resources were being restricted. It was a relief to know we could reach out to Yamaha to help,” said Ben Burr from the Blue Ribbon Coalition, which received $11,740 to develop a trail guide for Utah’s San Rafael Desert area to help visitors explore safely and responsibly. “The Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative is a trusted resource for the outdoor recreation community with a history of putting the funds where they are needed to make big improvements on the ground.”

“The 2020 fourth quarter grant projects spanned the spectrum of powersports, with funds going to groups from all categories of Yamaha’s off-highway vehicles: Motorcycles, ATVs, Side-by-Sides, and snowmobiles,” continued Nessl. “We prioritize those projects meeting the needs of diverse OHV riders to support their local riding communities.”

For more than 12 years, Yamaha has issued quarterly grants to non-profit organizations supporting the needs of riding groups, outdoor enthusiasts, land stewardship organizations, and public land managers to improve access to public land for outdoor recreation. Since inception, Yamaha contributed over $4.5 million in aid to more than 380 projects across the nation.

The deadline for submission to the second quarter 2021 funding cycle for the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative is June 30, 2021, and applications must be postmarked by then. Agreement Reached to Standardize Swappable Batteries for Electric Motorcycles

The Swappable Battery Consortium for Electric Motorcycles (Consortium) has reached an agreement to standardize swappable batteries and replacement systems, allowing battery sharing and paving the way for increased adoption of electric motorcycles in Japan.

The Consortium was established by Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., Suzuki Motor Corporation and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. in April 2019, aimed at increasing the adoption of electric motorcycles in Japan. Since its inception, the Consortium has been formulating the standards for mutual-use swappable batteries and their replacement systems, as a solution to the issues preventing widespread adoption of electric motorcycles as a more environmentally friendly and convenient form of mobility – the drive range and reduction of charging time. In order to establish the convenience and effectiveness of mutual-use swappable batteries, the Consortium has been cooperating since last year with the “e-Yan OSAKA” field tests conducted by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association’s Electric Motorcycle Promotion Subcommittee in collaboration with Osaka Prefecture and the national university corporation Osaka University, aimed at popularizing and increasing the adoption of environmentally-friendly electric motorcycles.

Parts of the common specifications agreed upon are compliant with the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. Organization (JASO) technical paper TP21003 issued on March 19. The Consortium will conduct technical verification and standardization of mutual-use swappable batteries, based on these common specifications. With the heightening worldwide demand for the electrification of mobility to realize a carbon-neutral society, the Consortium will work hand in hand with the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association to realize international mutual-use (international standardization).

As environmental awareness increases globally, the Consortium believes that cooperative consideration and promotion within the entire motorcycle industry, to build an environment for widespread adoption within the motorcycle industry, is vital to motorcycles continuing to be the customers’ mobility of choice, and aims to contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society.

Noriaki Abe | Consortium Representative Secretary, and Managing Officer, Motorcycle Operations, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. said:
“This agreement for the standardization of mutual-use batteries is an achievement made possible through the four Japanese motorcycle manufacturers working together over the past two years. I am grateful to all those associated with the Consortium and the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. for their understanding and support. While we will continue cooperation to build an environment allowing battery mutual-use based on our agreement, we will also be competing with each other to develop attractive products that meet the needs of our customers. Through our efforts in both cooperation and competition, we will work towards the widespread adoption of electric motorcycles to realize a sustainable society.”

The Buell Future

A couple of brothers recently asked about the Buell Motorcycle Company and Erik’s new venture with electric bikes. They were concerned about the two directions and splitting the name. We dug into these efforts to find out what the hell was happening.

Buell History

In 1983, Buell Motorcycles was founded

In 1984, the first Buell Motorcycle was built. With the help of Erik, Buell created the RW750, a full-fledged grand prix motorcycle for racing only in the AMA Formula 1 race class. However, the class was eliminated, and only 2 were ever produced.

From 1985 through 1992, along with running a race parts business and doing consulting engineering for companies such as Schwinn and Yamaha, Erik built a range of street sport motorcycles using Harley-Davidson® engines. The success of this led to Harley-Davidson® purchasing in 1993 a minority interest of Buell® Motorcycle Company.

In 1987 Rockville, MD became the World’s first Buell dealership.

In 1998, after 20,000+ motorcycles had been manufactured since the start of Buell, Erik Buell sold Harley-Davidson 49% of Buell motorcycles.

In 2007, the 1125R was manufactured with a new V-Twin motor with liquid cooling, DOHC, and fuel injection.

In 2014, the EBR 1190SX (Naked Bike) was revealed. The SX also features the East Troy V-Twin Motor, as does the RS & RX.

In 2016, EBR Motorcycles was formed to continue the legacy of Erik Buell.
buell 1190hcr edit .jpg

The 2017 model Black Lightning is created and released under limited production.

In 2002, the XBR9 Firebolt was manufactured. It was the first bike with aluminum beam fuel in frame chassis, and perimeter brake rotor. The XB chassis and motor derivatives grew to a substantial business of nearly 90,000 units.

In 2009, Buell won their first championship at AMA Daytona Sportbike class with rider Danny Eslick.

Beginning in 2010, Erik Buell Racing was formed, first supplying race parts for Buell® motorcycles, then in 2011 into production with the 1190RS, a factory super premium street/race-bike.

2021 Buell is back in production with an exciting array of motorcycles in development.

2020 Buell develops their first dirt bike in collaboration with the Cipala race team and wins the AMA Hillclimb National Championship.

–from 2021 Buell Motorcycles U.S.A.

Buell Motorcycles is an American motorcycle manufacturer based in Grand Rapids, MI and was founded in 1983 by ex-Harley-Davidson engineer Erik Buell.[1] Harley-Davidson acquired 49% of Buell in 1993, and Buell became a wholly owned subsidiary of Harley-Davidson by 2003.[2] On November 17, 2006, Buell announced that it had produced and shipped its 100,000th motorcycle.[3]

On October 15, 2009, Harley-Davidson announced the discontinuation of the Buell product line as part of its strategy to focus on the Harley-Davidson brand. The last Buell motorcycle produced through Harley-Davidson was on October 30, 2009, bringing the number manufactured to 136,923.

In November 2009, Erik Buell announced the launch of Erik Buell Racing, an independent company run by Erik Buell which initially produced race-only versions of the 1125R model, then subsequently offered an updated 1190RS model for the street or the track, and produced further improved 1190RX and 1190SX models which are intended for street or track use.

In February 2021, Buell Motorcycles announced they are back in production under the new ownership of Erik Buell Racing (EBR). Buell announced they will use the superbike platforms developed from 2011 to 2020 to build out their model line up to approximately 10 models in 2024. The models will include variations for touring, dirt, adventure, and cruisers.

Erik Buell Racing (EBR) is an American motorcycle sport company which produces street and racing motorcycles, based in East Troy, Wisconsin, USA. The business entered receivership in April 2015. After two previous attempts, the business remnants were sold in January 2016 to Liquid Asset Partners (LAP), an American organization specializing in the purchase and liquidation of failed businesses.

Liquid Asset Partners kept the company intact and motorcycle production resumed on March 1, 2016, the first new model rolling out on March 17, 2016.

Then we heard from our Blog Editor:

Bikernet Blog has published three articles on Erik Buell e-bikes with two of them published in March / July 2019 and one published just a few weeks ago in Feb 2021.

There is no question of any clash for the brand name Buell – since Erik Buell is not using it and has distanced himself from the renewed company bearing his name. He is using the name Fuell for his electric endeavor.

Here are the basic summary from the three Bikernet Blog Posts:

Erik Buell launches electric motorcycle brand – March 2019

Erik Buell is riding back to motorcycle business with Frederic Vasseur of Formula E and F1 fame and entrepreneur, Francois Terny. Buell is all set to launch an electric motorcycle brand called Fuell.

Erik Buell is trading motorcycles for e-bikes with the Fuell Fluid – July 2019

Fuell company with Erik Buell launched crowd-funding on indiegogo platform which has raised almost One Million Dollars from people who want to buy the first product of Fuell called Fluid which is an electric bicycle. The electric drive unit and assorted controllers and screen appear to be off-the-shelf units from a company called Bofeili, and versions of the hardware sans the battery can be bought online from sites like Alibaba of China for a few hundred dollars.

If it’s using predominantly average, off-the-shelf components, where does that money go? Design mostly. It looks a lot like a hard-tail mountain bike with extra beefy frame tubes. Nothing immediately calls out that it’s been electrified until you get up close, and we think that’s cool.

Erik Buell Says He’s Not Involved in the Buell Motorcycles Revival – February 2021

The revival of the Buell Motorcycles is fueled by the company holding control over it, Liquid Asset Partners (LAP). They hint at no fewer than ten models over the next three years. Those are said to range from dirt to touring bikes, and from dual-sport to cruisers. There’s possibly even an electric two-wheeler in the cards.

Erik Buell is not involved in this revival of course and made that perfectly clear in an email sent over to Road Racing World.

FUELL is a company making electric urban mobility solution for cities” where Erik Buell is a key, critical member. He says he has nothing to do with LAP’s announcement and is no longer involved with neither EBR nor Buell Motorcycles.

Hope all this helps. Will get you more info as I find it. The Fuell Company Website is at https://www.fuell.us/ And the Buell Motorcycles Website is at https://www.buellmotorcycle.com/

Harley-Davidson Fat Boy on 52-Spoke Wheels Is a Sight to Behold

by Daniel Patrascu from https://www.autoevolution.com

You don’t have to be the owner of a motorcycle shop to be able to make your own incredible designs. All you have to do is have some ideas, pitch them to the right crew, and then get ready to pony up the bill. And someone seems to have nailed all these requirements with the 2011 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy we have here.

The bike you’re looking at is a 2011 model year, but it doesn’t look like one thanks to over $9,000 spent on modifying it. In charge of that was a Corinth, Texas-based shop called American Eagle, and it seems like they more than lived up to their end of the deal.

In our view, the change that stands out the most has to do with the wheels. The original ones were replaced by DNA Mammoth pieces with so many spokes it makes one dizzy to look at. There are 52 of them on each of the 18-inch wheels, all of them black and beautifully offset by the white rims.

But these are not the only changes made to the two-wheeler. At the back the bike received a custom lowering kit, and a solo spring-saddle in leather. At the front, we get a slim fender, black upper and lower fork slider covers, and 12-inch, ape-style handlebars with white grips.

As for what powers the bike, the shop did not change that for something else, but improved on it. The stock 96ci powerplant was gifted with Screamin’ Eagle gray exhaust wrap, a Stage 1 air cleaner kit, and a Smokey Chrome air cleaner cover.

The bike is presently for sale on Hemmings with about 6,600 miles (10,600 km) of use on it. Despite the upgrades that went into it, and the way it looks, it doesn’t seem to impress people all that much, as for now just $7,100 have been pledged for it, with eight or so days left in the auction.
