THE AIM/NCOM MOTORCYCLE E-NEWS SERVICE is brought to you by Aid to InjuredMotorcyclists (A.I.M.) and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM), andis sponsored by the Law Offices of Richard M. Lester. For more information, callus at 1-(800) ON-A-BIKE or visit us on our website at < KILLERS AMONG US– New motorcycle registrations have continuously increased since1990, which means more riders on the road, but at the same time motorcyclecrashes are down. This good news is compounded by a 47% drop in injuryinvolvement from 1990 through 1998 when it began to rise, though even in 2001the rate was still 30% lower than in 1990. However, now for the bad news;motorcycle fatalities are way up, and have doubled in the past five years to nowequal the 1990 fatality rate. The reason for this dramatic increase goes far beyond the simple formula: moremotorcycles = more fatalities. In a recent Special Report written by Wendy Moonfor Motorcycle Consumer News, the author looks deep into the numbers andexplains that this epidemic is more than just a function of the numbers. In1990 there was 1 fatality in 37 crashes, but now it’s 1 fatality in 22 crashes ?a rise in crash-to-fatality rate of 40.5%. While safetycrats insist that this is a result of more states easing helmetrequirements, NHTSA’s “Recent Trends in Motorcycle Fatalities” states thathelmet use in all motorcycle fatalities has increased from 43% to 53% from1998-2001, even though more states did not require adult helmet usage. Speed and engine size are also not to blame for the increased motorcyclistfatality rate. Speed-related motorcycle fatalities have dropped from 41% in1998 to 38% in 2002, and states with higher posted limits have the lowestpercentage of motorcycle fatalities. Booze-blaming also doesn’t hold water, because alcohol-involved rider fatalitieshave fallen from 40% in 1990 to 28% in 1999. All in all, considering the decline in crashes despite the increase in ridershipdemonstrates that today’s motorcyclists are more educated, better trained andsafer than ever before! So, what’s the answer? What has changed since 1990 to account for such adramatic increase in motorcyclist fatalities? According to MCN, the one thing that explains why more die while less areinjured is the radical change in the traffic mix. Specifically, since 1990, thelight truck vehicle (LTV) market, which includes Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs),has increased 200 times and now represents approximately 50% of new passengervehicle sales! In 2002, car vs. motorcycle accidents claimed the lives of 662 motorcyclists, but that same year LTV vs. motorcycle accidents killed 645 bikers. Now, to putthis in perspective, passenger cars outnumber SUVs by a margin of 3-1!Therefore, LTVs are enormously over-represented in fatal motorcycle accidents. These LTV-related accidents are referred to as “mismatch crashes” and explainswhy more of those collisions are fatal. This mismatch has been well documentedin terms of the danger to passenger car occupants involved in collisions withLTVs, as size, bumper height, frontal geometry, frame stiffness and masscontribute to a lethal combination. So it’s not just that there are more LTVson the road today, but that it’s their design that creates the ultimate mismatchwith motorcycles. So, the next time legislators call for a mandatory helmet law, ask ’em what theydrive! HELMET REPEAL PASSES MICHIGAN HOUSE– A bill to amend Michigan’s 38-year oldmandatory helmet law was passed by the House, but the leader of the Senate hasstated that the bill will not be taken up before the end of session.HB-4325, sponsored by Representative Leon Drolet, was approved by the MichiganHouse of Representatives by a vote of 69-37 on November 10th, and the bill nowgoes over to the Senate where it has a companion bill, S-321, sponsored bySenator Alan Cropsey.Bikers over 21 who’ve been licensed to ride a motorcycle for at least two yearsand finished a safety course wouldn’t have to wear a helmet under the bill, which must pass the Senate and be signed by the governor before becoming law. CHICAGO DROPS HELMET PROPOSAL, BUT MAY CONFISCATE NOISY BIKES– Motorcyclistspacked the Chicago City Council transportation committee meeting as cityofficials were preparing to consider Alderman Burke’s proposal for a city-widehelmet requirement, but were informed that the proposed ordinance had been pulled. Alderman Allen, chairman of the committee, gave no explanation as to why theordinance was pulled, but before the committee adjourned, he did commit toinforming ABATE of Illinois in advance should the proposal be placed back on theagenda at a later date. However, Alderman Natarus, who reportedly “will never like ABATE”, has agreed toconsider an equally bad ordinance that would allow the city to confiscatemotorcycles for noise violations. ABATE is scheduled to meet with AldermanNatarus about this ordinance after the veto session. ILLINOIS BIKERS SUE OVER DISCRIMINATION– Two Chicago-area motorcyclists aresuing a Cary marina and restaurant, alleging workers there curtailed their freespeech rights by denying them service because of their biker attire. The bikers wore jackets displaying motorcycle club insignia, and workers at theBroken Oar Marina in Cary, IL and its adjoining restaurant told them they wouldnot serve them unless they removed their colors, co-plaintiff Peter James said. “What if I found a Bulls jacket offensive?” plaintiff James said. James, of suburban Brookfield, and Scott Patterson, also of suburban Chicago, are seeking $20,000 in damages from the business for violations of their FirstAmendment rights to free speech and expression. The complaint, filed in McHenry County court, says James and Patterson went tothe Broken Oar in September 2002 after a ride. James said other motorcyclistswere on the ride, too, and they all stopped at the Broken Oar. Employees parkedthe group’s bikes. “We got inside and they said, ‘We can’t serve you. If you go back and take yourvests off we would consider serving you,'” James said. “It’s gotten to the pointthat we’re not going to stand for this anymore.” James wore a jacket with the Outlaws Motorcycle Club emblem on it. Pattersonbelongs to Brothers Rising. Other bikers in the group, who are not a party tothe lawsuit, wore insignia from their clubs, which include religious and clean &sober clubs. The groups are members of the Northern Illinois Confederation of Clubs, whichaims to end discrimination against motorcyclists. James is chairman of theconfederation. James said he believes motorcyclists are discriminated against because lostpeople just don’t understand their lifestyle. He said businesses and thegeneral public should overcome stereotypes left over from decades ago aboutmotorcycle clubs. “We are the last truly free Americans,” James said. CRUISE CONTROL– When Tom Cruise shaped up for his next action flick, he did iton one wheel. According to Rolling Stone Magazine, Cruise checked into racinglegend Keith Code’s “On One Wheel” wheelie school at Willow SpringsInternational Raceway in Rosamond, California in June to hone his alreadyterrific wheelie skills in preparation for the filming of Mission Impossible 3. “Tom was a good rider already. He has a great combination of bravery andcontrol, just like in his films,” says Whitney Fair, director of the school.”He’s already just about good enough to enter stunt contests. The idea was toget to the next action level on the motorcycle and, in his usual go-for-itstyle, he did!” School founder and instructor, Keith Code, says, “Doing wheelies ranks high onthe list of the most frivolous and decadent things in the history of Mankind butI look at it from the perspective of skill and control.” The highlight of the school is Code’s invention, the Wheelie Training Bike. Theschool’s Triumph Speed Triples are equipped with two anti flip-over devices. Anadjustable microswitch kills one of the three cylinders while the other appliesthe rear brake. Both devices are adjustable and can produce the desired heightof the wheelie. “Your eyes will pop out of your head when it goes up–butflipping it won’t be easy,” says Code. WORLD’S FASTEST INDIAN– Oscar winning actor Sir Anthony Hopkins will star in”The World’s Fastest Indian,” the true-life story of Burt Munro, a New Zealanderwho spent several decades constructing a 1920 Indian Motorcycle, then traveledto Utah and set a new land-speed record back in the 70’s. Roger Donaldson, director of “The Recruit” is using his own writing and is directing the project. WEIRD NEWS: HELMETS DOWN UNDER– A recent court case may force Australian cowboysto wear helmets. Officials in New South Wales have charged a ranch owner overthe death of a rider who fell off a horse, and safety advocates insist he shouldhave had a helmet on. The rancher’s conviction is creating controversy in the Australian Outback, andcowboy hats for the jackaroos may be heading for the history books. A ranch manager says the only time he’s ever known the cowboys to wear helmetswas when they were riding motorbikes, and the president of a farmer’s group toldthe Associated Press (AP) that replacing the broad-brimmed hats with helmetscould increase skin cancer and heat stroke. But others dismiss that argument, saying it’s possible to come up with a hard hat that has a broad brim. LEAKY MOTORCYCLE DESTROYS HOME — The Pasadena Fire Marshal’s Office hasdetermined that a motorcycle with a possible gasoline leak is the cause of afire which led to the destruction of a home and a garage and damaged aneighboring home. Arson investigators discovered two motorcycles inside the garage, and thehomeowner had been working on the carburetor of one of the motorcycles. Apossible fuel leak may have caused the gasoline vapors to spread to the waterheater that was inside the garage where the fire originated, according to TheCitizen Reporter, a Texas newspaper. So if you’re working on your bike, do so in a well-ventilated area. If you’restoring your bike over the winter, make sure your fuel petcock is turned off! Pinellas Prosecutor Charged with Drunken Driving in Tampa–The Associated Press – TAMPA – A Pinellas County prosecutor known for aggressively pursuing drunken driving cases was charged with DUI after police said they stopped her with three children in her car.
Lydia Dempsey Wardell, 37, was arrested Wednesday near her Tampa home because she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 percent, nearly three times the legal limit in Florida, police said.
She was unavailable for comment Thursday, when she was released on $500 bail.
“She made a mistake,” said Bruce Bartlett, Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney Bernie McCabe’s chief assistant. “She’s aware of that. She’s extremely remorseful about her conduct and knows it’s not acceptable and is ready to pay the consequences.”
Bartlett said Wardell was on her way to pick up her son when she was arrested.
Bartlett could not say how the arrest would affect Wardell’s job or whether it would lead to her firing. If Wardell kept her job, she would no longer be allowed to participate in drunken driving prosecutions, Bartlett said.
Wardell rarely prosecutes those cases in the courtroom. But as a supervisor, she often discusses them with defense attorneys seeking a reduction or dismissal because of evidence problems.
“She is very reluctant to ever reduce charges or make any deal on a DUI,” Bartlett said. “She’s tough as nails and has a lot of enemies in defense lawyers because of her positions on these type of cases.”
In Pinellas, prosecutors including Wardell often charge DUI defendants with felony child neglect when they also have children in the car. It was unclear whether police considered that charge against Wardell.

House passes changes to helmet law
The Michigan House voted Wednesday to allow bikers to ride without theirhelmets if they meet certain requirements, but the leader of the Senatesaid thatchamber won’t take up the bill. The legislation, approved 69-37, would repeal the state’s 38-year-old helmetlaw. Four representatives didn’t vote.Supporting the bill were Bill Huizenga, R-Zeeland, and Fulton Sheen,R-Plainwell.Opposing the bill were Barb Vander Veen, R-Allendale, and William VanRegenmorter, R-Hudsonville.Bikers over 21 who’ve been licensed to ride a motorcycle for at least twoyears and finished a safety course wouldn’t have to wear a helmet underthe bill.
House Repeals State Helmet Law, AAA Michigan Calls Vote ‘Tragic’DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ — A bill designed to repealMichigan’smandatory motorcycle helmet law was passed by the State House ofRepresentatives today (November 10), in an apparent bid to takeadvantage of a lame ducklegislature — with 36 House members leaving. The final vote was 69-37 infavor with four members passing.HB 4325, sponsored by Rep. Leon C. Drolet (R-Clinton Township), would removethe mandatory helmet requirement for all riders and passengers 21 yearsof ageor older, but does not require motorcycle riders to carry Personal InjuryProtection (PIP) insurance coverage.
“It is well established that motorcycle helmets decrease the severity ofinjury, the likelihood of death and the overall cost of medical care,” saidRichard J. Miller, manager of Community Safety Services for AAA Michigan.”Motorcycle riders are much more at risk than persons driving or ridingin a passengervehicle.”
Miller cited National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data, which shows that, in states where the mandatory helmet laws are repealed orweakened, motorcycle fatalities increased substantially:
State Percent increase in motorcycle fatalities
Arkansas 21 percent
Kentucky 34 percent
Louisiana 48 percent
Texas 31 percent
Nationwide, motorcycle fatality rates have been rising. The total number offatalities is up 73 percent between 1997 (2,116 deaths) and 2003 (3,661deaths). In addition, the fatality rate per 100,000 registeredmotorcycles is up –from 55.3 in 1997 to 65.3 in 2002.HB 4325 will move to the Michigan Senate for a vote and must pass the Senateand be signed by the governor before becoming law.

TIM CONDER ADDS LIFE TO HOT BIKE–Hot Rod Bikes and Street Choppers. You’ve seen Tim’s magnificent work on Bikernet. Soon you’ll see it in print.
This is a rough sketch for a Street Chopper joke page. Hang on.
Performance Machine’s – El Borracho–Like any respectable bartender, a bike builder knows just how much of each ingredient is needed to achieve the desired flavor. That balance is what makes a good drink as well as a great bike. A perfect balance of Vodka, Gin, Rum, Triple Sec, and for you traditionalists, Tequila, are all flavors that are more than able to stand on their own, yet mixed together become the classic Long Island. Much like the mixture of unique flavors in PM’s El Borracho (although maybe a bit heavier on the Tequila!).
Beginning with an anniversary edition Harley Softail, Performance Machine’ Roland Sands stripped it to the frame and binned most of the stock parts. It was just too easy to grab parts from the shelves at PM, so Roland began modifying things. The uniquely finished wheels began life as their El Dorado design, but were hijacked before going to the polish shop, black anodized and then sent back for some final machining to reveal the raw aluminum. PM brakes saw the same treatment, but with a nickel plating. A springer front end and naturally PM’s wide wheel Phatail kit where added to handle suspension duties. The one-off forward controls incorporate a suicide clutch into what was the shifter and a hand made shift lever ties directly to the trans.
Handmade bars, a breathed-on motor and unique oil tank complete the mechanical mods. Using an aluminum fuel tank intended for another project, Roland added a frame skirt (to hide the ugly stuff) and a hand made solo seat to complete the old school look. The rock solid reliability of a factory drivetrain, mixed with vintage bobber styling and a decidedly new school wide wheel combine to create modern bobber. Flavorful, not overpowering and fun as hell to ride.
This bike will be in the first Hot Bike Poster book. Watch for it in the next 6-weeks on news stands near you.–Bandit
Replacement Windows– Last year I replaced all the windows in my house with those expensivedouble-pane energy efficient kinds. But this week I got a call from thecontractor complaining that his work had been completed a whole year agoand I had yet to pay for them. Boy oh boy, did we go around! Just becauseI’m blonde doesn’t mean that I am automatically stupid.
So, I proceeded to tell him just what his fast talking sales guy had toldme last year, that in one year the windows would pay for themselves.
There was silence on the other end of the line so I just hung up and Ihaven’t heard back since. Guess I won that stupid argument.

Thursday again and I’m scrambling to successfully complete ten tasks by the end today. My first mission is to battle the DMV and register Bandit’s bike, formerly known as ‘The Ultimate Chopper’. Now get this, the new name is ‘Bandit’s Sturgis 2005 Chopper’. What the heck? He should’ve come up with a symbol like Prince instead of that long-ass name and oh so original. He had the motor completely gone through from S&S; it’s still in the box waiting for his next day off.
This coming weekend he’ll be in Vegas at the dealer show, I think it’s called Big Twin West. Next week should be a better week for him, and you, as he’ll be able to answer Your Shots more regularly.
The day he started with Primedia, they were in the middle of year-end budgeting and trying to wrap up a poster book. All of which should be done by tomorrow. Fingers crossed and say a little prayer cause I miss that guy! Next week they’ll settle in to a ?regular? schedule searching for content for the next issue and hopefully he won’t be pulling any more late nights at the office. Hey, I believe him…
Temporary office. Sorry it?s so dark, I have no overhead light.
As for the Headquarters, things are still about the same. We’re last on the electrician’s list, which has me working off of extension cords in my kitchen and temporary office. I have to turn off the coffee maker to run the microwave or blow a fuse. My office is set up in the living room cause the new windows are going-on two weeks late and I can’t set up my office till the windows are in place and we can re-plaster, paint and carpet. I use my office as a workstation to keep the mess confined to one room.
What will be my office, just waiting on the windows?
My bathroom, planks covered with commercial grade carpet. Partially.
We (as in the women) have no sofa, no TV, no bathtub and no heat. The bathroom I tore up is slow going, hopefully by the end of this weekend I’ll have it done. Bandit on the other hand is all set up. What a great office, huh?
Bandit?s office. We?re only allowed in when he?s home.
Next week I?ll have lots of new content coming your way. I know how you all hate it when the site gets stale. I have a couple new people submitting articles for us now, welcome Julie Weems and Marilyn Braggs, yes women. We featured the Triumph Julie built herself in the last Sunday Post. She?s a photojournalist and will be covering events and such for us. And Marilyn will be taking over the Lawless column in Bandit?s Cantina. That damn Lawless ran off with the milkman so we had to close her down. But now Marilyn is onboard and she?s got it covered. Marilyn is also a photojournalist so expect to see serious articles from her as well. Welcome ladies!
OK, that about covers life here at Bikernet, let?s sees what?s going on with other folks?

ROGUE?S WATCH–Rogue walks into a bar and takes a seat next to a veryattractive woman. He gives her a quick glance then casually looks athis watch for a moment.
The woman notices this and asks, “Is your date running late?”
“No,” he replies, “I just got this state-of-the-art watch, and I wasjust testing it.”
The intrigued woman says, “A state-of-the-art watch? What’s sospecial about it?”
Rogue explains, “It uses alpha waves to talk to metelepathically.”
The lady says, “What’s it telling you now?”
“Well, it says you’re not wearing any panties….”
“The woman giggles and replies, “Well it must be broken because I amwearing panties!”

STEALTH REPORT–Last weekend (11-13-04, 11-14-04), I went to the Annual CBA swap meet here in Charlotte. The swap meet is held twice a yeaR. Every March and November it is held at the fairgrounds.
The swap meet is always one of my favorite things to do. In the past I had taken a truckload of parts out to sell for the dealership I used to work at and it was a lot of work but I always had fun doing it. Since I no longer work there this was a different swap meet for me.
I loaded up a few parts I had that were just lying around and my good friends Randle and Chris let me set up in their spots. It was good to see a lot people from out of town that I had met over the years.
All weekend long I had to explain why I was not working and why I did not bring all the parts out that I normally would have. After telling the story a hundred times I got tired of it and avoided it the rest of the weekend. I saw Crazyhorse and she offered me some words of encouragement and agreed with my decision to leave. Thanks for the words!
As the swap meet went on I noticed how it has changed over the years. You still have the people, who have been coming for years, the “BIKERS”. These are the guys who are there to try to make a few dollars but they are really there for the fun and to try to help a fellow biker out. That is what I always tried to do when I had a ton of stuff to sell but that never seemed to be enough when I would turn the money in, no matter the amount, especially when you consider there was no money or cost involved in what was sold, take off parts! That is the other group of people who show up at swap meets nowadays, the ones who could care less about bikes or bikers, the ones who are there to make every dollar they can no matter what it takes. One dealership showed up with his million dollar “HUMMER’ painted with the Bar+ Shield and every other H-D emblem you could find. You talk about ugly! They did not bring one part to sell, just wanted to show that hideous creation off!
Then I noticed the local HOG clubs set up at the swap meet. What were they selling? Memberships to their pathetic little social club. These people have no idea what a club or brotherhood is about. Really think about it, what kind of club is it when all you have to do to get in is lay your money down?
These groups of people have not ruined the swap meets completely. Overall it is still about bikes and bikers even if it has been diluted somewhat. To me the swap meet has always been about cutting some one a deal when they are down on their luck or a young kid who is building his first bike and you can see in his eyes the fire to get it done and you know he is scratching together every dime he has to make it happen. There was a young kid who came up to me and I had a set of Arlen Ness billet flamed grips. They retail at right around a $100 dollars, he looked at them for about 10 minutes and asked how much, something told me he did not have a lot of money and I told him $35, he laid them down and said he would be back and I told him how about $30 and with a big smile he pulled out his last $30. Yeah I know I gave them away but I also know they are helping a kids dream come true right now and that is worth the money I gave up on the grips. To me that is what swap meet are all about, cutting a guy a break once in awhile. I wonder how many deals the guy with million dollar “HUMMER” cuts anyone. One other thing, what in the hell does a “HUMMER” have to do with bikes anyway? Just to make sure I am right some people call them “HUMMERS” and others call them, I think HUM-VEES? Who really cares?
Until next week!

When Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked, “But why do younow seem happy with the old custom that you used to try to change?”
“Land mines” said the woman quietly.

GOOD-BYE TO AN OLD FRIEND–Nov 15. Yesterday. My beloved kitty of 20+ years went to Jesus. She and I were together most of my life. It was heartbreaking to release her because in my selfish human form, I wanted so much to immortalize her and not be alone. Annie was my baby in every sense of that word. She was my earth angel and now is my spirit guide. Because of her presence, I was able to get through many hard times in my life. Together we celebrated one another’s existence. She was always there for me and brought me enormous joy, enormous unconditional love. Now, she will always be with me in spirit…this I know. As soon as she was released from her physical form, the spiritual signs of her presence happened immediately thereafter. In my heart, Annie is sharing in my gratitude to everyone of you for continuing to grace my life.
To all of those who knew my beautiful, amazing feline friend, thank you for enriching her life with your presence.

BIKERNET CARIBBEAN REPORT–Hey guys, just got back from California and on my way out once more, but here we go, one more week, news once more.
California was cool, spent some time with friends, visited the Bikernet headquarters and kinda had no time to do shit. Unlike me, I was getting up kind of early, but by the time I got back to the room it was super late. The weird part is that I felt like I had no time to do what needed to be done.
WCC’s party was kick ass as always and very, very, crowded. From Monster trucks, street bike stunts and even the Metal Mulisha, needless to say, hot chicks and cool bikes, plus many good friends that I seldom have the chance to spend time with.
Sunday we avoided the Love Ride (like always) and headed to Pomona for the drag races. Two cars are sponsored by WCC and it was a very good time. It was kind of late when we managed to ride back to LBC, mayhem was the call of the day, but we all made it back safely to Anaheim Street. Maybe I will do the whole story on this trip, time depending.Like I said before, besides the hot chicks there’s always cool bikes, The Sinners always roll in with super cool bikes, I spend hours checking them out. I always enjoy and admire simplicity; those guys got their shit together.
The new Bikernet compound is kick ass as well, many wish to have half the garage space bandit has. We spent a few hours there, but circumstances did not allowed us to go back, next time it will be.It’s always good to meet with my friends from Hawaii, most are very cool and a pleasure to hang out with, if I would move away from Puerto Rico, be sure that Oahu will be the first choice.
Although I was suffering from Jet lag and a total lack of sleep, I missed the most the huge swell that was going on in Puerto Rico, 10 foot waves plus, and the insane amount of work that I left behind to go have fun in Calif. Speaking of such, we started another bike today, but time is running out……Big timeAnyway, got to go back to the dungeon….enjoy the photos and check the rest at my site www.ChopperFreak.com

AMD at Las Vegas–
Important news from Robin Bradley,
American Motorcycle Dealer,
November 17th 2004
If you plan to be at the Big Twin West Expo this coming weekend be sure to come and say hello to the AMD team.
There are just three more weeks to go before we close our January V-Twin Expo preview edition, and with advertising and editorial space already being taken up faster than ever before, make sure you are in dialog with us if you have news you’d like us to share with industry professionals in the custom v-twin sector in advance of the ‘Cincinnati’ Show.
The actual Show edition will be the February number; this will have been closed, printed and mailed before the V-Twin Expo, but will be seen for the first time at the show at the end of January.
Also, if you are a volume motorcycle builder (from one a month and up), or you have a parts and accessories program that you’d like to advertise to volume builders, then check out the upcoming first annual AMD ‘Builder Book’.
This will be a first-of-its-kind registry where custom v-twin volume builders can record themselves as such (for free) and will be a valuable guide for dealers and builders alike to who is doing what, and who has what for sale, in this increasingly important sector of the market.
Other upcoming AMD specials also include ‘ProGuides’ on PowerTrain/EFi (which includes driveline and engine parts), and on Brakes, Wheels and Suspension products.

You Must Be a Dentist–A guy and a girl meet at a bar. They get along so well that they decide to go to the girl’s place.
A few drinks later, the guy takes off his shirt and then washes his hands.
He then takes of his trousers and washes his hands again.
The girl has been watching him and says, “You must be a dentist.”
The guy, surprised, says, “Yes! How did you figure that out?”
“Easy,” she replied, “you keep washing your hands.”
One thing led to another and they make love.
After they have done, the girl says, “You must be a good dentist.”
The guy, now with a boosted ego says, “Sure, I’m a good dentist, How did you figure that out?”
“Didn’t feel a thing!”

BIKERNET NEW PRODUCT RELEASE FROM SAMSON–
Four Step Dual Crossover Header and Muffler for Road King and Dressers
Anaheim, California, November 16, 2004
Caliber High Performance Exhaust has designed and developed a cutting edge true dual crossover 4-step exhaust system for 1995 to 2004 Road Kings and Dressers. The system utilizes a 3 step header and incorporates the tuned muffler as the 4th step. The system greatly improves the street performance of these fine road motorcycles, at the same time producing a deep invigorating sound.
The complete system includes full coverage heat shields, 2 sets of baffles, all mounting hardware, chrome mounting bracket, a brilliant chrome 3? muffler and an engraved chrome aluminum end cap. The beauty of the Caliber True Dual Header System is the beauty of the system. The smooth flowing lines are evidence of careful planning and an eye for good looks. The right side pipe carefully follows the lines of the classic styling of the bike and makes a single straight line from the floorboards to the end of the muffler. Without drama or excess, the left side pipe exits from the rear cylinder to form strong lines that end at the perfect location behind the bags.
?Street ride-ability is what these pipes are all about? said Kenny Price, CEO of Samson Motorcycle Products. ?The new Caliber line raises the bar for performance pipes that look good.? Extensive Dyno testing proves the Caliber True Dual Crossover system put the power to the road with significant increases in horsepower and torque.
All Caliber exhaust systems come with a Full Two Year Warranty._

MEMBERSHIP
Our membership has nearly doubled in the last few months. I’d like to welcome all the new members and thank all our other members for continuing to pass the word and encouraging others to join this fight. I know that some of you have signed up a few people who don’t have email addresses. Unfortunately, we’re currently sending all our communications electronically, so please pass this information on to those friends and neighbors that don’t have email. The good news is that we are growing very, very quickly. After two years, MADD had only two hundred members across the entire country. We now have nearly 5 times that number. So trust that you are not alone in your feelings. And I can tell that there are many of you out there passing the word, because the rate at which we are growing is increasing. That’s great news!!! Keep it up!
RECENT LEGAL FINDINGS
In what I consider a MAJOR finding, the Supreme Court last week ruled that a drunken driving accident is not “a crime of violence”. As you know, MADD just loves to spout off about DUI’s being “a crime of violence” and by using that phrase, they have gotten a lot of legislation passed that might not have been passed without it. Hopefully, this will now help to open some doors for us to start fighting back against some of these unfair laws.
The New York state supreme court found that the practice of confiscating automobiles in DUI cases is unconstitutional. As such the city of New York, which put this practice into place several years ago, was required to return thousands of vehicles to people who had them confiscated. Wayne County here in Michigan is now attempting to do the same thing. But one of the lawyers we’ve been working with from the National College of DUI Defense has filed an appeal to fight it here. With the New York ruling as a precedent, we have high hopes for his success. But we’re proud to announce that this is now our third year of a reviewing NHTSA’s data and people are starting to take notice of what we’re doing. Two other great sites are And as usual, if you have a few extra dollars, please send them our way. Even $5 from every member would help us to buy brochures and continue to send letters to congress. Well, that’s about it for today. Feel free to write me or call anytime. Rogue Continued On Page 4
SPEAKING OF LAWYERS
This past summer the American Bar Association voted that DUI Defense is now a specialty area of law and that the National College of DUI Defense (
POLICE ABUSE
Many of our members and/or their friends and family have been severely abused by the police. However, they don’t know what to do about it or are afraid (with good reason) to file a complaint at the police station. We have recently developed a relationship with an organization called The Police Complaint Center. They are an organization that does investigations of police abuse and they have been featured on Dateline. If you or someone you know has been abused by the police, you can have the Police Complaint Center file the complaint for you and they will do it for free. They provide other investigative services that do cost money, but filing a complaint they will do for free. They have had a great deal of success. Please check out their website at
POLITICS
We’ve been actively participating in several political races. I attended a fundraising event for our Secretary Of State Terri Lynn Land and got to speak to her directly about RIDL. I also participated in the Michael Badnarik’s race for President for the Libertarian party and also got to talk to him directly about RIDL. This is the way to get things done folks. Talk to your local and state politicians. Tell them how wrong these laws are. Let them know you’re a member of RIDL and that our numbers are growing daily. Eventually, we will win. Remember, there are more of us. You can’t possibly arrest 2 million people a year for 20 years without eventually having people start to fight back. That’s what we’re doing. Keep up the fight!
STATISTICS
You all know how much I love crunching those numbers. I recently completed the 2003 state reports. I’ve sent them to the webmaster and hopefully they will be out there on the web soon. Just a quick explanation. NHTSA usually reports their figures in the late spring/early summer time frame. Unfortunately, they don’t make their database available until a few months after that. So I can’t run my own reports until the database is officially available. That’s the reason why there is always a delay from the time NHTSA puts out their figures and I’m able to counter.
DISCUSSION FORUM
Come on in, the water’s fine. We have a few regulars that like to come out and talk on our discussion forum, but I’d like to see more folks stopping in to say hello. There is a TON of excellent information out there from laws, news, breathalyzers, checkpoints, etc. Plus many of our members tell me that they appreciate have the opportunity to talk to other people about their case without have to worry about being judged. Once in awhile we have a MADD type person stop in and give us grief, but we soundly trounce them and it’s usually a lot of fun. So stop on in and say hello sometime. (
http://www.duiblog.com and
http://www.truebeliever.org
Take a look at these two great sites for up-to-date information on the DUI related news and articles.
DONATIONS
We’re fully aware that many of our members are already having their wallets raped by the system. As such, we’ve always insisted on RIDL membership being free. Unfortunately, we don’t get a lot of donations either and we simply can’t keep operating without funding. We’re seriously talking about charging for membership and for some of the reports. Anyone who is already a member would be grandfathered in and not be required to pay dues, but new members will likely have to pay to join. We haven’t set out all the details, but the cost of membership will probably be in the $10/year range. We will let you know ahead of time when/if this is going to happen. In the meantime, this might be a good time to let any potential new members know that they can still join for free.

Inmate says jail deputy beat him–
By MICHAEL REED – Staff Writer
BUNNELL — Inmate Edward Driskell said prisoners at the Flagler County jail were watching the World Series last month when a couple of guys became rowdy.
The guards turned off the game and later Driskell asked why everyone in C Block was being punished for the actions of a few. He said he used some profanity and wound up in the hospital, according to a statement he filed with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating Driskell’s claims that deputy John O’Keefe rammed him into a concrete wall and repeatedly punched him after inmates were sent to their bunks on Oct. 23.
Chief Deputy David O’Brien said the Sheriff’s Office would not comment on an active investigation. O’Keefe, 38, has never had a complaint filed against him and is still working at the jail. His supervisors and past employers described him as a calm, levelheaded man who defuses confrontations.
Reached Tuesday, O’Keefe did not comment on Driskell’s statement or the investigation.Driskell, 50, is now being held at the St. Johns County Detention Center.
Driskell’s sister, Debbie Rhoads, wants action taken against the jail deputy.
“I want him arrested,” said Rhoads, of St. Augustine, “and I want him fired.”
Rhoads provided The Daytona Beach News-Journal with a copy of Driskell’s statement, signed by 51 inmates, that indicates O’Keefe beat him. According to the statement, Driskell never made a threatening move and appeared to lose consciousness during the beating.
Driskell he suffered bruises and knots on his head, rib cage and right arm. Skin was torn on his left shoulder, and his left foot was black and blue, the statement said.
He said he was released from the hospital the night of the beating and placed in solitary confinement for a couple of days.
Sheriff’s officials say only one other complaint alleging abuse has been filed against a Flagler corrections officer in the past two years.
An inmate filed a complaint in 2002 about a deputy who had to “physically remove” his hand from his cell door so it could be closed, according to Sheriff’s Office documents. Officials recommended the deputy take a 40-hour class on verbal persuasion. No criminal action was filed, according to documents.
Driskell was booked without bail in the Inmate Facility on Oct. 9 after he was arrested at gunpoint inside a stolen car parked at a Palm Coast gas station. He was charged with grand theft, obstruction, driving on a suspended or revoked license as a habitual traffic offender, and violation of parole.
Driskell’s criminal record dates back to the 1970s and shows arrests ranging from grand theft to assault, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement records.
In his performance review, O’Keefe has received above average marks since he started working for the Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 2, 2002. His supervisor Sgt. Betty Lavictoire said he has superior “interpersonal” skills.
“Dep. O’Keefe has progressed and developed into a well-defined deputy that the department should be proud to have,” she wrote in his review on Jan. 19, 2004. .

THE OIL SHORTAGE– A lot of folks can’t understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in America.
~~~
Well, there’s a very simple answer.
Nobody bothered to check the oil.
We just didn’t know we were getting low.
~~~
The reason for that is purely geographical.

NAG, NAG, NAG — An attorney got home late one evening after a very taxing day trying to get a stay of execution for a client, named Wilbur Wright, who was due to be hanged for murder at midnight. His last-minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed and he was feeling tired and depressed. As soon as he got through the door his wife started on him. “What time of night do you call this? Where have you been?” and on and on. Too shattered to play his usual role in this familiar ritual, he went and poured himself a very large whisky and headed off for a long hot soak in the bathtub… pursued by the predictable sarcastic remarks.
While he was in the bath the phone rang, which the wife answered and was told that her husband’s client had been granted his stay of execution after all. Realizing what a day he must have had, she relented a little and went upstairs to give him the good news.
As she opened the bathroom door she was greeted by the sight of her husband’s rear view as he bent over naked drying his legs and feet.
“They’re not hanging Wright tonight,” she said.
The attorney whirled around and screamed hysterically, “For crying out loud, Woman, don’t you ever stop!?”
Bradley Shelby Benefit– This will be the local benefit held for Bradley’s wife Monica and 8yr old daughter Billie Jean. Although there will be another memorial party in Daytona on the last Friday of bikeweek, that will be put on by our brother’s in Fla. namely Fingers. I urge everyone to try and make this event as it is local to Bradley’s family and I think it would be cool for them to really see what our world is about. If anyone is able to make any kind of contribution to the auction or raffle please let me know.
Now I know that alot of ya’ll have already gone above and beyond for this cause and I’m not trying to impose anything. I’m just tryin to get some things together for the auction and raffle. Now I also know Dallas is a long haul for almost everybody but I’m just going to say this; I’ll be in Daytona for the memorial party even though I can’t really swing it and don’t even like the place during bikeweek, but I’m going for Bradley and all the people who his life has touched. Please spread the word and make Bradley proud, we’ve got one whole month from today to make this thing happen. And I’ve got a almost new tire that will be presented as a smoke offering at the bar!
P.S. I’ll buy a table dance for every brother that comes in from over 400 miles P.P.S. And thank you so much to all who have done so much for our man already, you all know who you are

ROCKET SCIENTISTS —Scientists at NASA built a gun specifically to launch standard 4 pound dead chickens at the windshields of airliners, military jets and the space shuttle, all traveling at maximum velocity. The idea is to simulate the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the windshields.
British engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the windshields of their new high speed trains. Arrangements were made, and a gun was sent to the British engineers.
When the gun was fired, the engineers stood shocked as the chicken hurled out of the barrel, crashed into the shatterproof windshield, smashed it to smithereens, blasted through the control console, snapped the engineer’s back-rest in two, and embedded itself in the back wall of the cabin, like an arrow shot from a bow.
The horrified Brits sent NASA the disastrous results of the experiment, along with the designs of the windshield and begged the US scientists for suggestions.

Sorry for such a short news–but that?s all we have. I think things have slowed down a bit cause everyones out trying to get in as much riding as possible before winter is fully on us. This is the first time we’ve done this, but a little more news will be added tomorrow. Things are just too crazy here today and I couldn’t pay as much attention to detail as I’d like to. So, tomorrow I’ll hit it first thing and tighten it up a bit. Make sure to check back. My humble apologies.
11/11/04 – I just got a call from Jose, who is in San Pedro now and will be by later. Take a look at the sign Keving Baas, the coolest of cool shop teacher sent Bandit. He welded it to our gate, obviously.
11/12/04 – OK, I’ve fixed a few things, added a couple and generally cleaned the news up a bit. Sorry for fucking it up yesterday, but my day was crazy. We had people coming over and I needed to get off the computer. It won’t happen again.
Have a great weekend!

Bandit, Ferryman and Jose
Pure Insanity. Those are the only two words I can use to describe how things are around the headquarters. If you like kids coming in and out, the phone ringing, UPS visits, power outages, etc? then you?d love it here.
Starting tonight and all weekend long we?ll have visitors coming from as far as England. The masses have flocked to So Cal for Jesse?s No Love party and The Love Ride. This year, the Bikernet Headquarters was added to the list of ?gotta stop there?.
Some walls are still just frame work, the bathroom is not yet fully functional, but Bandit?s warehouse and office are squeaky clean, (of course), and that?s where we?ll be doing the entertaining.
Let me be the first to welcome Ferryman from England (he brings Tulamore Dew) and Jose from Puerto Rico (hopefully he brings more Puerto Rican Rum). I?m glad they made it here safely. I don?t want to make it seem like you have to bring booze to visit, you can bring your women for Bandit and Sin, and bring food if you want to please Layla.
Now for a short news?
A Peak At A Steeds?Bandit,Here’s Scotty and riding shots of the our newest model, the 300-PM(Performance Monoglide) Quarterhorse. 2 0f 2, the bike studio shots are inthe other e-mail just sent. Zero Gravity–When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered thatball-point pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat this problem,>NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that writesin zero gravity, upside-down, on almost any surface including glass and attemperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300 C. The Russians used apencil. Your taxes are due again–enjoy paying them.
CowsIs it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that our government cantrack a cow born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall whereshe sleeps in the state of Washington. And they tracked her calves to theirstalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wanderingaround our country.

BIKERNET CARIBBEAN REPORT–Sorry guys but I did miss the news last week, then again you will see the reasons why as you follow this write up, rant or whatever the fuck you want to call it.
It?s funny how things develop. A couple weeks ago I was in Daytona talking to some friends who happen to work at Street Chopper and Hot Bike, setting up a couple shoots of my bikes, and then I get back and find out Bandit will be the head honcho over there. So if you see any of my bikes, chops, bobbers or whatever, they were planned before Bandit jumped on board. I guess his pull was not used for that first set….Although I’m not saying that I won’t use it for further events, let’s see what happens next.
Speaking of such, I believe that no matter how many bikes I have built, nor how many years I have been at this, no bike has caused more effect than the purple bobber I did for the Journey Museum. Funny, how many bikes I built with wide tires and such, and by just going back to basics, to what I did many years ago, I went full force into another level.
No matter what people think or say, those things are what we built before. I guess I was just waiting for my turn to bring them back into my builds. And in a sense I am really glad about it. I’ve had the chance to put together many different styles of bikes, do a lot from stockers to full choppers with wide tires, learn from every single one, and learn more every single time, I guess growing, which is the most important part of all this, growing and learning. At the same time you re-learn all the stuff you forget. I remember I could tear an old bike apart and build it back, using the old cliche, with one eye tied behind my back and hands blindfolded, or something along those lines, now I have to look and redo, but we will get it back in due time.
One of the main causes of me losing interest in the older stuff is that I was trying to preserve it. I remember when bikes were cheap and plentiful, a 1980 was kind of new, there was no mercy when it was time to chop it, then time passed, and the bikes we played with became more valuable and harder to find, so the only sane way was to begin doing repros. Mind you, I still don’t have the heart to cut up anything original, but the availability of certain parts makes life easier, and cutting up shit, a party. There’s no secret that I am more than partial to the simple, older stuff, that does not mean I don’t know how to do newer stuff, done that, it’s just that I like what I like, and I’m glad that people are starting to notice those older bikes. Plus you get caught up on the bigger race, wider tires, more cubic inches, shit like that, when at the end is just another fad, another stepping stone.
I really believe that there’s a point when a builder can build (yeap that’s what builders do) what they want to actually build. That?s when you can relax and enjoy the trip, don’t build shit for show, beat the crap out of it, usable, and be happy. The other thing is seeing how many parts are you making yourself, steel, a welder and grinders, the parts keep adding up, and some become standards in a bike, sometimes you can name who built it by these slight details. One very good example of this is Jesse James, no matter what people say, he does most of his stuff, and does not rest ’till he achieves it. He learns a new way to do things all the time, and takes the proper time to do so, no matter what you do, it’s yours, huge budget or not.I guess what the base of all this is growing and learning, like I said before, one day you stick weld, then you mig, then you tig, or you cut metal up, then you shape it and later on you are able to do a fender with an english wheel, I guess you are following me…….
So what about the purple bobber?
You take all this knowledge that you have amassed and use it to what you know best, and it’s AFFORDABLE to others, paint it in colors you like, no matter if people think it’s too bright, follow some rules and bend others, it’s a beauty being able to jump from one era to another and non conforming to standards, just putting together something that people might recognize you by, which my friends, it’s the hardest part of actually building bikes.I guess others have seen what I do reflected in that little bobber/early chopper/chopper, or whatever you want to call it, and they have made me realize that is what I do, and that is what I enjoy doing. Simple ain’t it ?
Anyway, while you guys read this, I will be at the Bikernet headquarters, No Love Party is coming up and I have some biz to do in Cali, although I don’t have the time, I will have to pay for it later by very late hours at the shop…..So what’s fucking new.
See you next week.

Bikernet Sex Advice–An Irish woman “of a certain age”, visited her doctor to ask his help in reviving her husband’s sex drive.
“What about trying Viagra?”, asks the doctor.
“Not a chance”, she said. “He won’t even take an aspirin.”
“Not a problem”, replied the doctor. “Drop it in his coffee, he won’t even taste it”. “Give it a try and call me in a week to let me know how things went”.
A week later she rang up the doctor, who directly inquired as to the progress. The poor dear exclaimed, “Oh, faith, bejaysus and begorrah! ‘Twas horrid, just terrible, Doctor”.
“Really? What happened?”, asked the doctor.”Well, I did as you advised and slipped it in his coffee, didn’t I? The effect was almost immediate. He jumped his self straight up, with a twinkle in his eye, and with this pants a-bulging fiercely! With one swoop of his arm, he sent the cups and tablecloth flying, ripped me clothes to tatters and took me then and there, making wild, mad, passionate love to me on the tabletop! It was a nightmare, I tell you!”
“Why so terrible?”, asked the doctor. “Do you mean you didn’t enjoy it?”
“Of course I did doctor! Indeed, ’twas the best sex I’ve had in 25 years. But I’ll never be able to show me face in Starbucks again!”

WHEN TOM CRUISE SHAPED UPFOR NEXT ACTION FLICK HE DID ITON ONE WHEEL!–AND…OOW SCHOOL COMING TOLAKELAND MOTORSPORTS PARKLAKELAND, FLORIDA (1 Hr. n. of Tampa)NOVEMBER 18, 19, 20.In June of 2004, Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond,California hosted Tom Cruise and The On One Wheel wheelie school.Cruise chose On One Wheel to hone his already terrific wheelie skillsin preparation for the filming of Mission Impossible 3 and invited RollingStone Magazine along to do his cover interview for that prestigiouspublication.
“Tom was a good rider already. He has a great combination of braveryand control, just like in his films,” says Whitney Fair, Director of theschool. “That was his third On One Wheel school session and he’s alreadyjust about good enough to enter stunt contests. The idea was to get to thenext action level on the motorcycle and, in his usual go-for-it style, he did!”
School founder and the world’s top motorcycle instructor, Keith Code, says, “Doing wheelies ranks high on the list of the most frivolous anddecadent things in the history of Mankind but I look at it from the perspectiveof skill and control. It just happens to be one of the skills every top riderI have ever worked with has perfected.”
“Riders have more confidence in themselves when they know they canreally handle the motorcycle, especially in extreme circumstances and awheelie is an extreme circumstance. “The Wheelie School, appropriatelynamed On One Wheel (www.OnOneWheel.com) will reduce fear….whichis the best part,” says Code.
The highlight of the school is Code’s invention, the Wheelie TrainingBike. The school’s Triumph Speed Triples are equipped with twoANTI FLIP-OVER devices. An adjustable microswitch kills one of the threecylinders while the other applies the rear brake. Both devices areadjustable and can produce the desired height of the wheelie.”Your eyes will pop out of your head when it goes up–but flipping itwon’t be easy,” says Code.
Along with the rest of his motorcycle training devices —the Brake Rig,the Onboard Camera Bike, the No B.S. Bike, the Braking Trainer, theLean/Slide Machine and the Control Trainer, which are used at Code’slegendary California Superbike School — the Wheelie Bike gives studentsa whole new level of control over their riding.

The blond tells him that they aren’t for a room, they are for her computer monitor.

Bradley’s service–I just returned from Barley’s services. The first thing that comes to mind is that combining sleep deprivation and funeral services are not always the best thing to do. I pulled an all-nighter at the shop to weasel enough time away from the shop to pay my respects to Bradley and all his loved ones. And there were no shortage of loved ones attending the services (standing room only). I know there was a ton of people who were not able to attend because if all the people attended who loved this Brother, I know there isn’t a place big enough. Now it has been a while since I’ve been to a funeral or a church service so I guess you might say I am not much of a religious man. I do believe that it is important to keep your word, take care of your responsibilities, do the right thing, always try not to hurt anyone intentionally and basically conduct your self in a righteous manner.
There was never a doubt that those were all qualities our friend possessed before this day but as the service was conducted this was explained by the minister as well. As the minister told it, Bradley always came to him around the holidays to see if there was someone who needed financial help and always gave generously and anonymously. He talked much of the kindness Bradley spread around and shared with us all. He read a little story Bradley?s little girl Billy wrote for the service and I know that was the hardest part of the service for every one ( even I had a hard time to maintain my composure ). She had some good things to say and is very strong about Bradley’s passing. They closed the services by leading us in front of Bradley to give us the opportunity to say good by in our own ways.
I stayed true to in our friendship and as usual I apologized to Bradley for not staying for the rest of the party so I could get a bit of rest before returning to work. I sure will miss having Bradley here with all of us and I extend my sincere condolences to His wife, Daughter, friends and family. I think we all need to continue our support to Frank and the rest of the crew at Hands off Polishing who will continue to provide quality services for all our polishing needs.
I have had limited contact with Frank but from working with him so far I can tell you he is a good guy who vows to keep the shop rolling and Bradley’s Family fed and for that I say Frank is one hell of a stand up guy. I will do all I can to help him make it happen and if anyone needs some polishing done, please give them a shot. I can easily say you won?t be disappointed with the quality of their work.
They can be reached at 224 Bldg. A Garvin st Garland, Texas 75040 Phone 972-487-8220
God speed Bradley!

BIG TWIN WEST–Dealer registrations coming in for Big Twin West THE dealer registration program for the upcoming Big Twin West expo formally opened in mid October, by which time the show had already notched up ‘promising’ dealer reaction according to Advanstar’s divisional general Manager Tracey Harris.
“Typically we don’t expect to start attendee sign-ups until some six weeks or so before an event,” Harris told AMD, “but when we did start the process of actively canvassing from the extensive pre-marketing we had done, we started from a high level.”The event is slated for the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, for Saturday November 20th and Sunday 21st. The event had originally been announced for late January this year, but clashes with other events, not least the Harley-Davidson Dealer Conference in Orlando, resulted in a re-think.
“People have always said that Fall shows and West Coast shows don’t really pull in dealers. But we are all about listening to our customers,” Harris said. “A lot of dealers from the West Coast have suggested that the Dealer Expo in February is too late for their earlier-starting and longer riding season, and too far for them to go. Also, a lot of exhibitors have suggested Las Vegas as a show venue for the V-twin sector, so we are all set to break the mold. We believe a Fall show in the South West can and will work, and to judge against dealer sign-ups at the same stage last year for the Dirt Expo we held at the same venue at around the same time, we are ahead.”
Advanstar has partnered with Hot Bike to promote Big Twin West and East, and in addition to a Saturday night industry party, attendees are invited to a builder breakfast with top-name customizers such as Cory Ness, Aaron Greene (Paramount Custom Cycles), Kevin Alsop (Big Bear Choppers), Kim Suter (KC Creations), Jim Nasi, Rick Kairless (Strokers Dallas) and Matt Hotch due to attend the show and display recent custom projects.
Currently, getting on for some 150 exhibitors (AMD included) are signed up for the show. If you think being part of a unique opportunity to see the custom V-twin industry ‘do Vegas’ sounds like your kind of fun, at a time of year that looks increasingly useful given the changed nature of buying needs in the market these days, give it a go and be sure to come by and visit with the AMD team.

That’s It For The News–Since today is my second childs birthday, I’ve decided to say screw it to work on the building and head out for pizza and salad bar.
My son, Kyle, turned twenty today. Not a child anymore, but not quite a man yet either. Even though he’d like to think so.
Have a great weekend, mine will be busy with work around here.

BIKERNET SCIENCE CLASS–A professor at Texas A&M University was giving a lecture of thesupernatural. To get a feel for his audience, he asks, “How many peoplehere believe in ghosts?”
About 90 students raise their hands.
“Well, that’s a good start. Out of those of you who believe in ghosts,do any of you think you have seen a ghost?”
About 40 students raise their hands.
“That’s really good. I’m really glad you take this seriously. Has anyonehere ever talked to a ghost?”
About 15 students raise their hand.
“Has anyone here ever touched a ghost?”
3 students raise their hands
“That’s fantastic. Now let me ask you one question further…Have any ofyou ever made love to a ghost?”
Way in the back, Bubba raises his hand. The professor takes off hisglasses, and says “Son, all the years I’ve been giving this lecture, noone has ever claimed to have made love to a ghost. You’ve got to come uphere and tell us about your experience.”
The big redneck student replied with a nod and a grin, and began to makehis way up to the podium. When he reached the front of the room, theprofessor asks, “So, Bubba, tell us what it’s! like to have sex with a ghost?”Bubba replied, “Shiiiit! From way back thar I thought you said “Goats.”

THE BIKERNET PHYSICAL–Following Smith’s physical, Dr. Bernard sent his patient a bill.
A month went by without a remittance, the office sent the first letter…another bill, and then another, and then a fourth, but no payment came…
Finally he sent Smith a pathetic letter, claiming desperately strainedcircumstances and enclosing a shot of his infant daughter.
On the back of the snapshot he wrote, “The reason I desperately need themoney you owe me!”
Barely a week later a response from Smith arrived in the mail.Dr. Bernard ripped it open eagerly, and found himself holding a picture ofa gorgeous woman in a full length mink coat.
On the back of the photograph the patient had scrawled, “The reason Ican’t pay!”

STEALTH REPORT–For the first time in 22 years I find myself unemployed and it is not a good feeling. For the past couple of weeks I have been feeling down about all of this while trying to find my bearings and decide which road to take.
This past Sunday was the 10th Annual Gift & Gobble Ride here in Charlotte. During the week leading up to the ride I got calls from two of my buddies, Phil and Lonnie. They wanted to know if I wanted to ride with them. At first I really did not want to go. The ride ends at where I used to work and I did not think I would feel right being there. Sandy (a.k.a. MEANEST) had encouraged me to go. She has been there for me and supported me and my decision through all of this. Little did I know I was in for a surprise come Sunday.
Sunday morning rolled around and I decided to go. All week I had thought about the run and how people less fortunate depended on the run and how there were people out there who were in a lot tougher spots than I find myself in right now. It was a beautiful day, sunny and 80 degrees. We pulled out and headed for the Charlotte Coliseum and pulled into the parking lot where a sea of bikes were already staged for the ride. All week I had felt kind of disconnected from riding. As soon as I got off my bike I had people coming up to me shaking my hand and wishing me well. I was blown away by how many people I had come in contact over the years and how they expressed concern for me and thanked me for helping them at times. I can never express what this all means to me.
On the way home I realized that when you least expect it, you get so much back for giving so little sometimes. It proved again what I have always believed and that is “BIKERS CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER!” I also realized on the ride home that no job ever made me a biker! You see, all I have ever wanted to be is a biker and it was a choice I made long ago and no job could ever change that or take that away!
Deciding to go on that toy run did me a lot of good. As the holiday season approaches make the choice to attend a toy run, you just might be surprised at what you get back!
Until next week!

BIKERNET MILITARY SUBJECT : USMC Retirement Bonus —
The Marines found they had too many officers and decided tooffer an early retirement bonus. They promised any officer whovolunteered for retirement a bonus of $1000 for every inch measuredin a straight line between any two points in his body. The officer gotto choose what those two points would be.
The first officer who accepted, asked that he be measured from thetop of his head to the tip of his toes. He was measured at six feet andwalked out with a bonus of $72,000.
The second officer who accepted was a little smarter and asked to bemeasured from the tip of his outstretched hands to his toes. He walkedout with $96,000.
The third one was a grizzly old Colonel who, when asked where hewould like to be measured replied “from the tip of my penis to mytesticles.” It was suggested by the pension man that he may want toreconsider, explaining about the nice checks the previous two officershad received. But the old Colonel insisted and they decided to go alongwith him providing the measurement was taken by a medical officer. The medical officer arrived and instructed the Colonel to “drop em,”which he did. The medical officer placed the tape measure on the tipof the Colonal’s penis and began to work back. “My God!” he suddenlyexclaimed, “Where are your testicles?” The Colonal calmly replied”Vietnam.”
TEEN MAGAZINE AND BIKERS DAUGHTERS–Layla, I’m a writer for Teen People looking to interview a teenage girl (between the ages of 14 and 17) whose dad is a Hells Angel (or a 1%er). My editor would prefer the daughter of a HA member only because the name is so recognizable, but she will consider others as long as they are serious (not weekend) bikers.
Just to clarify — we are NOT interested in interviewing the MC member himself or writing about their organization. This is a magazine for teen girls about teen girls (who we’ve found are only interested in grown-ups if they’re Ben Affleck or a member of Good Charlotte).
This feature is an “as told to” piece — the girl receives a “written by” credit, and we take her interview, edit it for length, and plop it into the magazine. We do not editorialize or add commentary — it’s strictly her story, and it is meant to be a positive feature that will inspire kids to see the similarities in others more than their differences (the other article I am working on for this particular section is about an 18-year-old girl who donated a kidney to her twin sister).
We want to ask the questions that your average 15-year-old girl would ask another teenager — what are your favorite classes, do you work part time, do you know how to ride yourself, do you want to get your own motorcycle, do you get along with your parents, do you ever worry that your dad might get hit by a bad driver, do you ever wish dad wasn’t a biker, that sort of thing. We assume that your average kid doesn’t know that much about how dad spends his time, so we’re not interested in asking questions about it.
I realize some people may have some understandable concerns about privacy, and I’m happy to do whatever I can to address those (and am already discussing options with my editor). The interview isn’t terribly long (the whole article is about 600-800 words) and can be done over the phone. My deadline is soon – Nov. 15 – and my editor has asked that I submit candidates to her by Mon. Nov. 8.
gI am happy to answer any questions anyone may have (I can be reached at lianebonin@aol.com). I hope this is an opportunity to present a different side of biking to the public and hopefully open a few minds.
Thanks, Liane

SCREAMIN’ EAGLE DRAG TEAM ROLLS TO SEMI-FINALS IN LAS VEGAS–Tonglet Advances to Third Round, Hines Leads Qualifying and Keeps Points Lead
LAS VEGAS (Oct. 31, 2004) – Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines drag racing team rider GT Tonglet rode his Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod to the semi-final round of eliminations at the 4th Annual AC Delco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. His teammate, Andrew Hines, led all qualifiers for the event, but missed a chance to clinch the Pro Stock Bike season points title when his engine faltered in the first round of eliminations. However, Hines still retains a 117-point lead over Antron Brown heading into the final NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event of the season, Nov. 11-14 in Pomona, Calif.
For the seventh time this season, Hines topped all other qualifiers in the NHRA Pro Stock Bike field. His run of 7.130 seconds at 185.10 mph also set a new Pro Stock Bike ET record for the track. Tonglet qualified fourth with a run of 7.185 seconds at 190.59 mph, a new track-record top speed for the class.
In the first round of eliminations on Sunday, Tonglet (7.266/177.67) defeated Karen Stoffer (7.290/178.99). Hines (8.052/128.18) was leading Mike Berry (7.414/177.60) when his engine let go mid-run.
“We came here ready to wrap up the championship, but it just didn’t work out. We’ll be ready to get the job done at Pomona,” said Hines.
In round two, Tonglet (7.253/177.16) beat Matt Smith (7.275/181.76) and for the seventh consecutive NHRA event, a Screamin’ Eagle rider was in the semi-final round. Tonglet then lined up with Angelle Savoie, but her 7.241/178.71 run beat Tonglet’s 7.442/177.39 pass.
In the final, Chip Ellis (7.191/179.92) used his V-Twin Buell to defeat Savoie’s Suzuki (7.255/177.49) and take his first NHRA Pro Stock Bike win in just his third start.
US Army rider Antron Brown, who started the Las Vegas event in second place, 131 points behind Hines, advanced to the second round before losing to Ellis, and gained 14 points on Hines. Savoie, also with the US Army team, started the weekend 176 points behind Hines and gained 55 points on the Screamin’ Eagle rider.
Heading into the final event, Hines has 1,152 points, Brown is 117 points back in second with 1,035 points, and Savoie is 121 points behind Hines in third position with 1,031 points. With a potential 138 points available at Pomona, both Brown and Savoie still have a mathematical shot at the title.
“The team did well this weekend. Andrew was the top qualifier with a track record ET, and GT set the track record top speed and made the semi-final round,” said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Anne Paluso. “We’re really looking forward to Pomona and the championship finale.”

BIKERNET GOES POSTAL–The US Postal Service created a stamp with a picture of Senator Hillary Clinton to honor her achievements as the First Lady of our nation. In daily use it was shown that the stamp was not sticking to envelopes.
This enraged Senator Clinton, who demanded a full investigation. After a month of testing, a special presidential commission made the following findings:
*The stamp was in perfect order.
*There was nothing wrong with the applied adhesive.
*People were spitting on the wrong side.
RACER’S CYCLE OF YOUTH RIPPED OFF–Sacramento, CA-Oct. 17by Felicia
Ray Wheeler’s been racing since the 1960’s when he came to Californiaafter serving in Viet Nam, so the October 16-17 drags weren’t his firstgo-round. It was, however, the first run for his 2002 specialconstruction, hand-built motorcycle. As a matter of fact, it had justknown life for one week before Ray loaded it up in the back of aSilverado pickup and headed for the Custom Chrome show in Morgan Hillfor it’s first introduction to the riding world.
The judges weren’timpressed enough to hand down an award to the 159 incher at that show, but when I saw it doing pre-trial burnouts here in Sacramento(with 190 horses to the rear wheel), it definitely caught my eye. It’s got that old skool, work horse appearance that I so love in ascreaming, rocket of a motorcycle. It’s kind of a cross between “sleeper” streetbike lookand a slightly understated racer, but with street tires and no tractionRay still turned in some impressive times of 124 mph and two runs of119 mph…in well under 12 seconds.
Ray’s next stop was to be Las Vegasas he sought to reclaim his youth astride his custom built steed, but Destiny had another plan.
On Sunday, October 17 some scum-sucking buckets of shit decided theywere entitled to the cherished motorcycle and Ray awoke to find an emptyspot where the truck had been parked at the Best Western in RanchoCordova. Besides the bike, the truck was loaded with tools, helmets, andassorted gear. He’d brought along a set of full leathers to be givenaway to someone who needed them, but he’d not yet found anyone they’dfit, so the thieves got those, too.
I’ve heard it said that you develop a deeper sense of what’simportant as you age, and it struck me that Ray Wheeler, at 60, has hitthat stride because his Zen-like attitude about the whole thingsurprised me. Hesaid he hoped that whoever ended up with the bike would have the heartto realize it was a special machine and not tear it apart.
There areonly 3 engines like it in the entire United States, so it’s not like aguy could just waltz up to a parts counter and buy a new bolt-on partfor it. Jim Bartlett from Beaverton, Oregon had come out of retirementto build the frame and had his name proudly displayed in copperpin-striping on the tanks. Ray shared that he hadn’t been able to sleepand had not yet told Jim about the theft, a call he was sorely dreading. He just couldn’t get his head around how someone could steal anotherman’s motorcycle anyway, but to take one of this caliber was just beyondcomprehension. The tone was one of disbelief, and rather than spewingvengeance or raging with hate, there was just a profound sense ofsadness and loss. (I, personally, found myself cursing the slime with apox to be carried for the next hundred generations, however!!) Ray saidthat if it had been a street bike, he’d just call the insurance companyand start all over, but this bike was a group effort, and represented agreat deal of pride irreplaceable by any coverage.
The police have given little hope of ever seeing the motorcycleagain, but the truck was found 3 days later in Citrus Heights…abusedbut drivable. Ray hasn’t given up hope, and continues to hold out forthe one phone call that might lead him back to his beloved fountain ofyouth. His number is (831) 594-7783, email addy, bmcmc@sbcglobal.net and Ray, I truly wish you the best!!
